Opinions de Southside Tavern Goldthwaite
Can’t say enough good things about this place. People are top notch servers, friendly, relaxing hometown atmosphere, and the food 🤤🤤🤤! Try the Woafer! Bacon wrapped meatloaf topped with mashed potatoes and fried onions! Talk about slap yo momma good! It was the best explosion of flavors I’ve ever experienced. Take the drive, it’s worth it! Pics DO NOT do this justice!
Get. In. There. Whether Southside is on your route or a bit of a detour, it is well worth the stop! The food was so delicious, some of the best I’ve ever had! I live in the DFW metroplex and have yet to find a restaurant with this quality of food and hospitality. Do yourself a favor and make the stop in, you won’t be disappointed!
One of the yummiest dinners ever—this was the Southwest Parm. Delish. Food is always fresh and unique with a wide variety, from my son’s favorite the “Trash Burger” to a delicious chef salad with turkey, cranberries, and homemade dressing. Staff is friendly and helpful too! More favorites—the prickly pear margarita and the to-die-for peanut butter pie. 😋. Cool vibes in a small town!
Extremely laid-back environment with wonderful service and outstanding food! It's definitely a place you want to visit if you're passing through Goldthwaite! Their menu has something for everyone, especially for the kiddos. Wonderful staff, food, and sometimes even live music, which adds to the great atmosphere at the South Side Tavern!
Their coffee rivals Starbucks. Great atmosphere with lots of things to look at and purchase. Such as souvenirs, food, drinks, etc
Brittany was great in answering questions. Loved this place & that they have a store connected to it that has a coffee shop in it. The food was great. It's also a tavern but we went at lunch time so there wasn't anyone at the bar. Highly recommend this place
Really good food and service and comfortable atmosphere. The best fried pickles I’ve ever had. The fries are enormous and so good. The burgers are big and delicious. We also tried the cowboy bites and there aren’t words to describe how good they were. We will definitely come back.
This is by far the best restaurant in a 100 mile radius! We drive 45 miles one way at least once a month to eat here. Cold beer too if you want it.
Awesome place, great food and fun atmosphere. Bar is pretty sweet to!
Live music, great service, and the food is excellent. We had the Chicken fried steak, it is huge and homemade. We live in Fredericksburg but stopped in on the way to visit family.
Best restaurant in 100 square miles, I’m so impressed with their food and they fry in beef tallow! I can eat the fried food and not feel like crap and instantly bloat afterwords! Would not recommend any another restaurant!
What a great spot. Delicious food. Friendly local customers. Solid hard working staff. Cold drinks. Can’t ask for much more. Fried Pickles and the burger were amazing.
Excellent quality of ingredients as nothing felt heavy, even my wife's burger. They have several options depending the cuisine you would like. As for service they were out of the beer I ordered, but the tender made a special trip to get a new keg tapped and within 30 minutes had the beer I wanted. Really enjoyed the live music as well. Great job, and great food!
What a hidden gem out in the countryside. We were traveling through - Thanksgiving travel and needed a spot with gluten-free options. Everyone in our group had one of the many burger options from the menu and hand cut fries....we were all happy, full, and amazed at this little spot. We had our dogs, and they were more than welcome there as the outdoor area was very comfortable.
I had the most amazing chicken fried steak of my life at Southside Tavern—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor. It was comfort food at its finest. The service was just as good—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. To top it all off, a truly kind couple surprised us by paying for our meal. It was such a heartwarming moment that made the whole experience unforgettable. Great food, great people, great atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!
Sat at the bar with my buddy and the bartender suggested “Whiskey Bacon Burger” we both ended up getting it , long story short 10/10 best burger Ive tried , will definitely return , clean establishment, clean restrooms great customer service! And friendly staff!
Awesome spot. Good mix of draft beers and bites. Excellent appetizers and big juicy burgers. Short ride from San Saba and worth it!
Holy cow… Talk about an unexpected surprise. While taking a drive to San Angelo, we stopped in Goldthwaite for dinner. The building is unassuming but the vibe inside was amazing. The waitress was friendly, the live music was well received, the beer was ice cold, but the star of the show was the chicken fried steak. It was huge and delicious. They had to serve it on a pizza tin! If ever, I am within 50 miles of here, I will return. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In a small town like this from where this lovely Tavern is from it's a very almost West Texas rustic feel, with plenty of good food good choices of liquor and plenty are enticing atmosphere to go around. Especially when it's coupled with excellent service which is both warming and excellent and execution, this place is definitely a place where folks need to go to a little bit more since it seems it's a little bit tucked away. From their wings to their burgers you can't seem to go wrong, although we didn't have any of the drinks perhaps next time create all in all this place is one of those places that I'll never forget and will always go out of my way to go to 😎
This place is a hidden gem of Goldthwaite! I loved my Turkey avocado bacon sandwich. The owner is super generous and kind and the servers are very attentive. The decor of the Tavern is very cozy but with unique, rustic decor. One more thing that was an A+ in my book, is the fact that they use tallow to fry their items such as fries. It’s much healthier alternative, traditional, and tastes much better!
This place is awesome! Tucked right off 183 next to DPS. The food was great and came out incredibly fast. The owner was really friendly and even helped pick the perfect soda water. Highly recommend if you're in Goldthwaite
We love eating at Southside! We make the drive over at least once a month. Everything we've had is fantastic. What I really love is that they use beef tallow to fry with. Friday nights the special is chicken fried steak and it's the best you'll ever eat. There is a little bit of a wait so order some appetizers and drinks and enjoy the evening.
Everything was really good, our server was so nice and very helpful. I got the pasta, it was Mac&cheese with Nashville Hot Chicken and it was SO GOOD! I I had to change anything add more cheese to the Mac & cheese. My mom got the road runner and she loved it! Def would recommend both, especially if you like spicy food, the Mac &cheese is great! 10/10 would recommend! The atmosphere is great too!
Top-notch restaurant/bar you’d expect to find in a much larger city! Located on the Goldthwaite square, not a fancy location, but very laid back with cool details like a local black walnut bar top milled by the owners. Nice craft beer selection. Our fried green tomatoes (maybe pickled?) were crisp (great coating), hot and tasty. Meatloaf medallions were moist and perfect with great sauce and her salad was huge and tasty. Definitely worth a stop!
Wow!! Who knew such a great place existed in Goldthwaite? Well, the locals seem to love it. My sis and I stopped in for a snack on our travels and discovered an adorable store that serves up coffee and beverages, and an adjoining restaurant with a big bar that conjures up the old West. We had fried green tomatoes that were the best I’ve ever had, and cowboy bites, a delicious corn fritter with cream cheese and jalapeños. Mmmmm. Hit the spot! We will be back to this one!
Four of us came here for dinner after a long day of cycling, 140 miles. The food and service were great. We each had hamburgers and we all left full. Great place, and would highly recommend.
Brand new old time Texas saloon that is a favorite with locals in the Pecan Capital of Texas
Great food and atmosphere. The fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever had. The bacon whiskey burger didn't disappoint. The jalepeno sourdough bun was 🤌
If I could rate this place 100/100 I would! I can’t even explain how amazing the food was. You would not expect this from such a small town, but it’s better than some of the 5 star restaurants you’d drive to the big city for! The food was piping hot! The quality of the food was on point! Not some reheated, frozen, name brand B.S. there’s love behind every dish! A non perfect platter? Non existent at this establishment. The atmosphere was very inviting and calming. Clean restrooms! Clean establishment overall! The staff were all friendly and the server was VERY attentive! I had the fried green tomatoes, let me say BEST DAMN fried greens I’ve ever had, aside from my granny’s that is!😉 I also had the sweet potato fries, not skimpy shriveled taters, big uns! And a machine gun sandwich! Hands down best grilled cheese I’ve ever had! The meat was nice and tender, with excellent flavor. I’ll be returning here… obviously. 🙃

The food is always awesome and there's plenty of it. Servers are top notch. P.S., "Market" means if you have to ask, get a burger.
If you want quality food that isn't overpriced Southside is the place to go! Generous and flavorful food. Something for everyone here. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Always has new food and specials to try. Best chicken friend steak and steaks in town! Wide variety of drinks alcoholic and non at very reasonable prices.
On Saturday nights you can get the best steak around. Grilled to perfection, tender, and packed full of flavor. Add in live music and yummy cocktails, and it’s the kind of place you want to stay awhile. A true local gem!
Best place in the area. Fantastic food, large portions, great drinks, good prices, phenomenal atmosphere, and unbeatable service. We keep coming back.

Food was really good, 1 server was handling the whole restaurant. Nastiest heavy metal rock music playing the whole time even after asking server to change the music.
Got to check out Southside Tavern during our long drive. Prices were a little steep for a small town restaurant but the plates were big and super filling. They definitely didn’t skimp out on the portions! The wait time was really long to get our food but they do have it on the menu that their wait times are longer than normal due to making everything fresh. Thankfully we were not in a rush, I wouldn’t recommend it if you are wanting to be in and out. Our starter was the garlic cheese curds, I’ll give them a 8/10. My son got a bacon cheddar burger and gave it a 8/10, my husband got the road runner and gave it a 9/10 and I got the juicy pig sliders (I think that’s the name not 100%sure) and I’ll give them a 7/10. My only complaint about the sliders was that the pulled pork was a little more on the drier side. Overall it was good and we had a great experience. Our waitress was super friendly, attentive and answered any questions we had about the menu. We spent $76 for all 4 dishes and 2 soft drinks.
Good restaurant! We visited on a Thursday at lunch and there was plenty of open seating. The interior is nicely done. We ordered several burgers, chicken sandwich and the meatloaf sliders. Everything was pretty good. The fries were my favorite! The wait after ordering was a lot longer than expected and customer service was ok. We would visit again if hungry in the area.
So this place is pretty cool. Not sure when it opened, but it was apparently an old grocery store on the south side of the square. Great atmosphere and the staff is just incredible. Huge chicken fried steak, you will be taking a good amount home. Smoked pork nachos have incredible flavor. Big menu and hear lots of good things about all of it. And they don't make anything until its ordered. So enjoy a drink or two and one of their amazing appetizers while you wait! Live music Friday and Saturday also! New place for the rotation...go check it out!

Live music and excellent food burgers and wings for a Friday night in a small town in Texas. Was hoping to get served and leave relatively quickly to continue our trip to Abilene but it took almost an hour to get our food after we ordered. No attempts were made to check in or update us on our food at our table while we were waiting. Relatively expensive as well.
My second visit had a chicken Cesar salad which was pretty good. My man had a brisket sandwich which was so tough he was nice but got sick later on it. Should have sent back. I don’t understand why restaurants can’t NOT serve something that is not worth eating. Won’t be back.

We had four in our group and our food and drinks were good. I was very shocked when we got our bill and a $54 gratuity was added. I could understand if we had a larger group but a group of four??? We did enjoy our dinner and drinks but don’t know that I will be returning.
Passing through town yesterday, I stopped in to eat and was encouraged to browse the mercantile next door in the coffee shop. I ended up leaving without spending much after realizing the restaurant/mercantile is actively promoting a book that glorifies an affair with a married local man. That kind of thing isn’t bold or artistic to me — it’s just gross. As a traveler, it immediately changed how I felt about the place and whether it deserved my money. I won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend it to other travelers who care about where they spend their dollars.
