A last minute decision to book for Sunday lunch and so glad we did! Service was excellent (Bo!) and food arrived quickly, lots of it and delicious 😋 so good we’ve already booked for during next week - a new menu too so really looking forward to it!
Very welcoming, friendly, homely feeling, very polite staff and the food was amazing, myself and my partner checked in for an afternoon drink but were tempted by bar snacks, great views, great atmosphere, well worth a visit, if not for anything then definitely for fresh food and gravy that screams of home. My mother is moving close to here and asked me to check it out, can’t wait until she moves, gives me a great excuse to visit again
Really brilliant meal & very good value. The staff were friendly, helpful & polite. There were some loud lads with undesirable language for little ears but it was sorted out by the staff promptly.
I was really pleasantly surprised, we were looking specifically for a pub that did the moretti 2 for 1 offer and this was local to us, what an excellent pub with great views over the harbour. We didn’t eat but the food looked good. Staff were very friendly would have stayed longer but had the car with us. Would go again
Went there for a Sunday roast which was absolutely superb. We both had the pork belly roast which was priced at roughly £15 each and it was cooked to absolutely perfection. The roast potatoes and gravy were delicious as were the vegetables and the portion size was very generous. The pork was soft and just melts in your mouth, the crackling was easy to eat and not too hard on your teeth. The staff were extremely polite and attentive and the pub is very well kept with a warm and friendly atmosphere which also is dog friendly. Will definitely be going back for another roast soon and I would highly recommend to those that are looking for a great Sunday roast.
Pru, thanks for the Amazing Hosting. 👏 Great visit all round. Thank Mick for the recommendation 👍 was greatly Pleased with our Pie 🥧 and your roasts were massive!!
What a wonderful welcome after a 32.5km walk! The food was absolutely fantastic (fave:pork belly bites) the cocktails were varied and brilliantly priced, the surroundings were super cute (the view unique and gorgeous....even on a drizzly day!) and the service was spot on. Can't wait to go back.....highly recommend a visit! 💙
Fantastic service , couldn’t fault a thing. Had mums wake here and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet was excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. Thank you for making a difficult day a little bit more bearable and stress free. X
We had a table on Christmas Day, having moved to the area a year ago, and already want to book for next year! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, the food was delish, and couldn't fault the service... all the little 'bits' on the table were fabulous (crackers, charms, plastic tumbler for child) - was just absolutely super. We had specific needs with a relative with cancer, and the whole team couldn't be more accommodating and supportive. Thank you so much for making it such a great experience in 2025. We'll be back during the year, but please book us in (x5) for next year!!!! Thank you :)
Thank you very much for an amazing evening in the Jolly Roger. Chef Jolly Roger cook not just food, but a work of art. It looks amazing and was absolutely delicious. Hunter's chicken and apple crumble exceeded all our expectations and we received heavenly pleasure 🙏 ☺️ Special thanks to Ella for her attitude towards clients 😀 We will be visiting again very soon. Thank you very much 😊
A great local pub, with a fabulous views and a good vibe and the quality of service was great. We had the bar sharing (3 selections) food option and it was delicious 😋. The pork.bites where so so nice! Look forward to our next visit for sure Mike
Wow, amazing beautiful venue with table service and a georgous view. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was cooked and presented beautiful. We shall definately be returning. Perfect way to celebrate a birthday.
Lovely meal, atmosphere and music. It's great that offers are accepted on a Friday and Nathan was a brilliant table host. Only down side was the meringue was too small, the other puddings were normal adult side x
Another wonderful experience! We’ve visited The Jolly Roger several times this year and it never disappoints. Nathan always greets us with a warm smile and even remembers us from previous visits, which makes it feel extra welcoming. His customer service is consistently excellent and keeps us coming back. --- Would you like me to make it a bit longer, more descriptive, or keep it short and simple like this?
Family reunion lunch today in the conservatory overlooking the harbour. This is such a great location and the pub feels clean and cool as well as relaxed and comfortable. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. It was quiet in there at lunch time today but -so it was extra nice to have lots of personal attention. I don’t expect we could expect so much when it’s busy. We all went for the cod and chips with mushy peas -cooked to order and very nice. I had blackberry Eton mess which is really good without any excessive sugar if you find normal Eton mess sickly. We thought the beer was good and there are lots of different drinks to choose from. The ladies loos were very well looked after and clean. There’s an easily accessible but private extra loo right by the conservatory for less mobile customers. All in all we couldn’t find anything to grumble about the opposite in fact. Also, In the evenings it’s a lovely place to sit and have a pint watching it grow dark over the harbour.
My husband and I popped in for lunch and wow! The food was incredible! Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding! The ladies were super lovely and will definitely be back soon! Think this place will be our new regular! Thank you very much x
What a super transformation for this pub. The ladies who run it now have transformed it. The food was excellent the service extremely friendly and the prices reasonable. There was also a lovely, happy atmosphere about the place and all the customers we saw come and go were very relaxed and cheery. There was a list of future events on show and we will definitely be visiting some of these. Loved the retro music which was played at sensible volume levels.
We had a wonderful family meal this afternoon at The Jolly Roger. Fantastic attentive service provided by Keira and Mel with great options for the kids (who loved their ice cream sundaes!), all served in a traditional pub with a cosy, warm atmosphere.
First time at the Jolly Roger Gosport Hampshire. A great pub on the edge of the estuary. It’s popular with locals and visitors to the area. Good menu with smaller lunchtime portions. Thanks Jolly Roger team.
This restaurant is so good! Staff is really kind and toilet is clean. I ordered hamburger and it tastes so delicious. The chips were nice and crispy and the combo of beef and bacon was so good. And also salad was tastes nice. I enjoyed food so much. Thank you!
Everything is brilliant the food is tasty and well cooked. nothing is too much trouble, and with those views the atmosphere is always great
Great service. Delicious food. Friendly atmosphere. If the weather is nice the view from the table is beautiful!
We went last week for Sunday lunch. An excellent meal, high quality and a really friendly waitress service. A large car park. Came down from NW London area to meet a friend who is local and never been to this pub. Highly recommended and will return on our next visit to Gosport. A credit to the owner.
Good menu, reasonable waiting time for good food, good service, comfortable surroundings. Will be returning.
Fantastic meal with friends last night. New menu is really good, lots of variety! Highly recommended
Wonderful pub/ restaurant amazing staff helpful friendly. Great food. Great selection of drinks.
Had a lovely meal last night. Everything was really good. Lovely atmosphere and a friendly bar man.
Fantastic service food was great Kiera and pru made us feel really welcome and we're amazing with the children Thamkyou!!
Amazing food, choice and quality. Really lovely staff, pleasant, friendly and always happy to help
Popped in for dinner on a Bank holiday Monday after we’d been working all day on charters. Good honest pub grub. My steak & Ale pie was brim full of juicy steak and it was a proper pie, not just a sheet of flaky pastry on top of stew. The sticky toffee pudding was as good as I’ve tasted. Doesn’t try too hard to be something it isn’t. A lovely setting overlooking a quieter corner of Portsmouth harbour. Fairly priced as well. You can’t ask for anything more.
Love coming here for dinner. Great food - favourite is the dirty burger. Staff are very attentive especially Nathan who is very welcoming & extremely helpful 😄
Such a lovely place in a beautiful spot. Staff were friendly and attentive. I wasn't a fan of the roast, there was not much seasoning and there was too much gravy. I'd go back in the future and try something else though.
A nice roast, actually, lovely meat, potatoes, but veggies guys, dry, get some butter on those carrots? lovely views, staff a bit grumpy, but it was a Sunday? Still, id go back if I was in the area
Sat outside, sadly no sun spots available. Ordering from table was not obvious, so my partner went in to ask and a kind waitress took our order, it arrived more quickly than that of a nearby table who had placed order by app. Pleasant drink. Pleasant surroundings looking over the boats in the harbour.
The occasion was a low key post funeral drinks and lunch (a small wake). Staff were excellent, in particular bar manager Nathan. We enjoyed the afternoon despite the circumstances which brought us there.
Went for a Sunday Roast by myself. Got sat at a lovely little table overlooking the harbour. Service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious, especially their Cauliflour Cheese. Only note is I rode in on my bicycle and had trouble finding a place to lock it up, but that's probably due more to the location than anything else. Overall, a nice, peaceful dinner and will definitely be returning.
Great pub/restaurant overlooking Portsmouth Harbour. Food was really good, better than the average pub. Services was excellent and staff were very friendly.
Always a good spot in the summer. A good choice if beers and a sit down restaurant if you're hungry. Seating can be limited in the sun but there are some nice shelves placed in the rails along the road for you to chase those end of day rays.
Fantastic location, great atmosphere, dog friendly and lovely staff with efficient service. The food did take quite a while to come out considering was fairly quite but we weren't in a rush. Wasn't impressed with the food. Very small portions and definitely overpriced. When we inquired why the mixed grill only consisted of a very small steak, very small piece of gamon and one small sausage as the meat portions the staff member explained the chicken had recently been removed and portion reduced and stated we weren't the only customers to have been disappointed by the mixed grill due to this. We would return in the future but only for drinks as unfortunately food was a disappointment. The establishment is clean, friendly and perfect spot to meet friends for drinks.
Booked a table for Sunday lunch at 2pm arrived on time seated straight away with promise that someone would over in few mins to take drinks order After 25 mins no drinks or food order taken went to bar to order drinks and promised someone would be over to take food order No one arrived, tried ordering food at the bar queue very long sat back down eventually two staff members arrived to take order, one allowed us all to order then proceeded to tell us chicken, potatoes and several other items were unavailable Ordered alternatives and informed 30 min delay on food orders. Over an hour later no sign of food and no communication regarding delay, waited another 15 mins asked for an update and we were told it was being plated up and on its way out After another twenty mins food still not served so decided to leave Other customers at other tables near us also walked out Heard staff informing other customers a lot of items on menu unavailable including tea and coffee! Very poor customer service no communication whatsoever and we are somewhat disappointed that despite having bookings they run out of Sunday lunch menu basics! It wasn’t busy and there were plenty of staff around Staff could also do with basic customer care training! This is not the first time we have experienced poor service here had hoped it had been a one off but definitely will not be returning
Lets start with something positive. I have been coming to the Jolly Roger for about 12 years and have always loved the food and service, I've even recommended the place and raved about the food to other people. On this occasion, my latest, and last visit both the food and service were well below par. On the Sunday of our visit the pub was very quiet asside from a party of 14 booked who arrived about 30 minutes after we did. We ordered our food and enquired as to its whereabouts about 45 minutes later and were informed that it was on its way. We enquired again about 10 minutes later and we're told it was being plated up. It arrived about 10 minutes later. My pie and mash was what I can only describe as inedible. The pie was soggy and hardly warm on the inside. My wife's Sunday dinner was a lake of gravy with food swimming in it. My disabled mother in-laws was more of the same. The side of pigs in the blanket were best described as uncooked grey meat. My wife went to the counter to complain and was told someone would be out to see her but one of kitchen staff came out but went straight back in without speaking to her and other senior staff member was outside smoking. As much as we don’t like to complain, we tried but no one was available therefore i paid the £68 bill and left. So after an hours wait, and 4 plates of inedible food we left very disappointed. I have added photos to show the food. I'm not really interested in a reply as the standard of food and service can't be justified and no explanation will see me returning.
