Opinions de Mario’s Asian Grill Hawkins
It's the only Chinese food within about 20 miles. It's Chinese food! And it's really really good Chinese food. And Wednesday through Friday, I think it is, they have sushi. Really good sushi! It's a nice Cafe. Great ambiance. Staff are superb, worthy of a nice tip. They have American food too. I'm going back for the meatloaf. The name Mario's is misleading. It's not Italian food at all, and that's what tricked me. You *must* eat at Mario's if you dig great food, specialty is Chinese. MmmNUMMY! 5 stars no problem! 🌟 ✨ ⭐🌠💫 UPDATE 08/09/2022 - I've branched out. I've found something I didn't like - the meatloaf, and I love meatloaf, usually. Think of it as a trade-off. I hate veggies. I'll go back to Mario's just for the veggies! Delicious! Whatever it is that they do, it enhances the flavor of the individual vegetables and does not result in a mashed medley. And remember, I *hate* veggies! The meatloaf - im not saying that there's anything wrong with it, just that I didn't like it.
Best place around. I love the food but I love the people even more so. The food is fast fresh, and delicious. I love Mario's, most of my money is spent there, and I do not regret it one bit lol
Met by a pleasant waitress and my choice was lettuce wrap which was outstanding and plenty as appetizer instead of a main meal. Also complementary was the spicy egg drop soup and frozen non alcoholic margarita! Great choice on the spur of the moment dinner!
Delicious Chinese Food!! I tried the General Tso’s Chicken with fried rice and my daughter had the Noodle Bowl. Both were fabulous! The staff is very friendly and environment is inviting. We will definitely be back!!
We have eaten at Mario's several times and each visit has been a delightful experience. Love the Hunan Chicken! Update!!! If you haven't tried Mario's blackened fish and bacon wrapped shrimp, you have missed a real treat. Awesome!!!
This place is amazing! The atmosphere and love from the staff is very welcoming. The food is delicious and well prepared! Walnut shrimp and jalapeño chicken really hit the spot! Looking forward to my next visit!
Best restaurant u can try in the town!! 10/10 services and food was too good !
My mother and I had sushi, egg rolls, and some lo mein. Everything down to the sweet tea was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The atmosphere was quaint and clean, very cozy. Our waitress was prompt, informative, and so kind. Orders were hot and fresh! If you're around the Hawkins area and like Chinese, this is a must try hidden gem.
This place is like my second home when it comes to getting great Asian cuisine food. I've been a steady and supportive customer of theirs for years. Their food is excellent and prices are very fair. The people there will treat you great and give you excellent service (be sure and tip my friends, they deserve it) The dining room is somewhat small and it does get busy at rush hour on weekend nights but it keeps their overhead and prices low. Try their General Tso's Chicken.. it's my favorite. Better than any other place in East Texas I've been so far.
Started out with some POT STICKERS (appetizers) and they were quite good. Ordered STEAK and SHRIMP and it was good. The tea was awesome as well. Also received a free bowl of soup while waiting for meal and it was great. The people that work there are friendly. Nice experience.
The food was very good. Service was excellent. Family run restaurant and the chef obviously takes great pride as he visited our table to make sure we enjoyed our food. Very much enjoyed the complimentary soup that came out before the meal. The selection was somewhat limited to 4-5 Chinese choices and 4-5 tex-mex choices, but they mentioned that was expanding very soon. Prices were very reasonable. Will definitely visit again soon. Probably 4 to 4.5 Stars in reality, but they are new, so the boost to 5 Stars and will revisit once they settle in a bit more.
Mario's is one of those out of the way little jewels. They have some mainstream American specials, but go for the Chinese. Everything we've tried has been consistently good. The jalapeño chicken is spicy, the sauce so delicious but not too hot, not burn your tongue till there's no taste hot. You have to pay extra for fried rice, but just stay with the steamed - it's light, fluffy and provides the perfect contrast to your dish. The complimentary soup is a perfect add-on. Whenever in that area, we always try to venture out - its worth the drive.
I ordered so sushi today from the new sushi menu that Mario has! I had the Shaggy Dog Roll. It was so Delicious. If you haven't tried this place you need to! They have the best cuisine, and the very best customer service! You won't be disappointed if you go here!
This is such a nice little place. The sushi is great and the burger is fantastic. Fantastic shrimp and snapper. Great service and super nice folks running it. High hopes they find a large audience here in the Piney Woods. We’ll be customers for the ride.
First time here and we were very impressed. For such a quaint little restaurant, we couldn't find a complaint. We had a burger and the General Tso's chicken. Both were made to perfection. The staff was very attentive and the owners pride was very evident. Would definitely recommend for a good meal at a good price.
Mario, Maria and Miguel are amazing. Hospitality like no other, the onion sour soup is amazing and the prices of their menu is fair. I love this place and the food is fresh and delicious. I never leave Mario's unsatisfied. It hits the spot everytime.
Shrink-flation has hit Mario's restaurant! Now you get less...for more cost. A California rolls was $7 now it's $10.99. Not ideal but completely understandable; however, when the quality suffers too, not good. I had little to no seafood salad and huge chunks of cucumber and they called it a California roll. I'm sorry cost is too high for rice and cucumber. I showed Mario's a photo of the skimpy product today to the lady at the register. Mario's sister, i believe, and was told I don't make them and she was showing me how they're made. What I was showing her is that the quality of the product they sold was no where near acceptable. I will rethink recommending them and i will share the poor quality product photos with anyone thinking of ordering California rolls. I wish I could add a photo here. I'm so disappointed, both in the product and the weak explanation.
This place has awesome food. I absolutely love it. I could eat their cooking every day.
Just happened to find this little restaurant in a small shopping center. Was thrilled to see they have an excellent menu with a variety of sushi entrees. Love the buy 2 sushi rolls for $9.99 for their lunch special! I'll definitely drive 40 minutes to eat there again.
The food is really good! Everything I’ve tried here so far is delicious! We got Thai noodles, Lo mein noodles, Tiger roll (with some modifications), Volcano roll, Mexican roll, and Spider roll. My brother got the blackened alfredo pasta (not pictured) and it was really good too.
Very clean and friendly environment. Food was wonderful. Spicy tuna roll and the California roll was amazing. Definitely the best in the area. Egg rolls and spring rolls were great as well. Served a hot and sour soup as an appetizer that was delicious. Fairly priced for great quality food. Would definitely recommend trying this place out.
What a crazy find! Its called Marios yet its an Asian bistro.... and its really good!! I got the Beef Lo Mein and Jalapeño Chicken - great portions and presentation, wildly well balanced and delicious food to include a free soup?!? Right here in the middle if nowhere and if you dont know its there youd barely see it. We will be back.
If you come here, please order the dumplings with Marco Polo Sauce! It's one-of-a-kind! We went here twice because we wanted to order all in their menu LOL! But we always order the dumplings! We also tried their other dishes like Pepper Beef, General Tso's Chicken, Coconut Shrimp and Meatloaf. All were good! Was not able to take a pic because we were too hungry to and ate everything!
Updated review 2 years after first visit. Still amazing, this time we had Jalapeno Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken and Beef LoMein..... First visit: OMGoodness!!! If I could give it more stars, I WOULD!! Friendly service, best Asian food I've ever had. The Cheech and Chong and the Red Snapper were AMAZING! I love that I have a husband that doesn't mind sharing (and combining) our meals. Hint: the Marco polo sauce on the red snapper...delicious also. We have already been talking about a day trip just to eat here, its only 1 1/2 hrs from home. Nothing on a lazy Saturday, right?!? Love, love, love!
Yummy lunch on a dreary day. Kung pao chicken with fried rice preceded by egg rolls served with an amazing hot mustard! And that was just DHs order. Amuse bouche was a bowl of delightful hot and sour soup. I had the Wave with Tuna. We'll be back!
Best Asian cuisine I have ever had. Living in large city with thousands of restaurants, they are no competition for this little whole in wall, staff is superb and friendly... must stop if passing by.
Still just as yummy as ever…. Been dining here for some time (to-go and in house). Consistent, yummy food and friendly, warm service. Sexy beach roll pictured here.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mario’s Asian Grill continues to be one of our favorite places to eat—not just because the food is consistently delicious, but because of the people who work there. Our waitress tonight was absolutely fabulous. At one point, we even overheard another customer being unkind to her, and she handled it with such grace, kindness, and professionalism. That alone says so much about her character and the culture of this restaurant. The food is always great, but what truly stands out is the work ethic of the staff. You can tell many of the employees are juggling more than one role at a time, yet they never lose their positive attitude. They work incredibly hard and still manage to make you feel welcomed and cared for. It’s not just the flavor of a meal that makes a restaurant—it’s the quality of the service that comes with it. Every time we come here, we feel genuinely blessed by this team and the consistent quality of both their food and service. Mario’s Asian Grill is a place we happily support and recommend.
Last night was the first time my family had Mario's, we ordered to go the Jalapeño Chicken with fried rice, the Teriyaki Beef bowl with fried rice, the kid Chicken fingers with fries, the crab rangoons and the lettuce wraps. First of all, the portions are huge so be prepared for leftovers. And second of all, everything honestly was just amazing. It was still steaming hot by the time I made it home, and the ingredients were fresh. I personally am very picky about my Asian food so I wasnt too excited at first, but once I started eating it was hard to stop. Also, pricing is the most affordable and reasonable pricing around right now. And, the woman that was serving last night was also so sweet and very accommodating to my impatient toddler and provided her with paper, markers, and stickers that smell like watermelon as we waited for our food to be finished, and offered us drinks. It was just a great experience. You definitely dont want to pass up trying out Mario's, I promise you wont regret it!
food and atmosphere was amazing. I recommend this place to everyone I know! All of the staff are so friendly and that’s hard to see in some places. Amazing place 10/10
Amazing food, staff, and atmosphere. Very sweet servers will make sure your food is perfect and hot. Best Sushi and drinks
Went last week, I was amazed with how amazing the food and staff were. I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for externally good food!
We’ve been coming here for years, and it’s always excellent! They’re great about food allergies and sensitivities, and they’re always so friendly. We come here for a sushi fix rather than anywhere in Tyler!

I've ate here several times and everyone it's been great. I recommend them. Tonight however I was disappointed though. We pulled up at 7:44 to make a to go order and from driving by the front door with the open sign to parking they came and flipped the sign to closed. I don't know if they saw us and rushed to close or not but that's how it felt. They are supposed to close at 8. From experience, I understand the frustration of people showing up last minute but closing 16 minutes early so you don't have to make a to go order seems a bit much. I will still recommend them and will still eat here just disappointed by this one Friday night.
A tasty surprise, there is sushi, Asian inspired offerings and everyday American fare. The surroundings are smart, dare I say, romantic. Service was attentive and food was nicely prepared. We look forward to visiting again. Update: We've been several times since my original post and they have started offering some wonderful desserts. I've added photos of their cheesecake and Key Lime pie.

The restaurant was nice and clean. We were a little disappointed as we were hoping for more of a variety of food. The prices were expensive with only a few specialty foods that were reasonable. We asked for a military or policeman discount and was told that the prices were reasonable so they don't honor discounts. We disagree but continued with our meal. The meatloaf was quite sweet, not sure why the meat was but expected the ketchup to be. They brought me a grilled chicken salad and I had to ask twice for dressing they chose to send out some sweet sauce to put on the salad. The chicken bites were a bit large I would have rather they cut it but I did it myself and the chicken was kind of tough and hard. Not going to say we won't try this restaurant again but next time prepare to have their cuisine and bring a larger wallet. Three stars.
Wasn't thrilled with the General Tso's chicken and lo main. Chicken was over cooked, lo main didn't have much flavor. The table was STICKY, my paper napkins stuck to it!
My wife and I really like this little place. It’s convenient, good service, good food, and reasonably priced. The only complaint I have is from our visit today. I ordered their club sandwich, which I’ve had before and is very good. The nice lady brought it out and it was lunch meat with cheese and bacon—on a sesame seed bun, same bun my sons burger came on. I asked if this is what they consider a “club” and she advised that she’d only been here 3 weeks and that’s how they taught her to make it! No fault of hers of course, but if you’re going to train someone how to prepare your menu I would think you would want someone training her who actually knows how to do it......other than that, I still love the place
I've visited many times and was very satisfied This occasion I was totally let down ! I wanted cashew chicken, no cashews but peanuts...eehh ok. The spices used to cook were SO HOT I nearly vomited!! The fried rice was sticky!

Was very shocked with what we received, seeing all the amazing reviews before we decided to order here. Our main 2 entrees were okay, but the sushi rolls we got were awful. We didn’t even get the pot stickers we ordered. For paying $68 we were expecting the food to be worth the price. We drove 20 minutes to this place, and just feel really disappointed.
I'm reminded of an episode of restaurant impossible when Robert tries the food and spits it out and said it's too salty to eat. I really hate giving bad reviews but I hate even more throwing good money away on terrible food. One reviewer claimed this was the best General Taos they'd ever had. If that's the best I'd hate to taste the others cause this was absolutely the worst we've ever had and we've had some bad ones. The kung pau chicken was only the tiniest bit better than the generals, the coconut shrimp tasted neither of shrimp or coconut. While everything was really salty the mashed potatoes were too salty to even gag down. The green beans were salty green mush. The steamed rice was actually really good and the fried rice was not bad at all. We had some canned beef stew a few nights ago that was not good but part way through trying to gag this down I asked my wife if we had more stew cause I'd rather eat it. Owners please call Robert and see if he will come rescue you.
Terrible! Service, was horrible, the husband and wife argued the whole time. The waiter seemed to their son and didn’t know what was going on. I felt like I was on a TV show “America’s worst kitchens”. To cap it all off, they changed me $8 extra for rice and noodles on a dish that should have had those on there. Will never come again!! Save your money and get Panda Express it’s better and less expensive.
First off, I ordered the Alfredo and it was brought out with no noodles. The sauce was grainy and bland. My partner ordered the steak, it was over cooked and the mashed potatoes were made from a box not real potatoes. The service was good but the food is not worth the price.
We realize in a small town the restaurant business can be tough. I think it’s important to be open the hours that you state online. We arrived at 7:20 on a Saturday night when the hours available online are open until 8. The open light was on and open sign was turned to open when we got out of the vehicle. When we opened the door we were rudely turned away with them saying they were only doing to go orders. No thanks! It’s 7PM on Saturday night. Your hours are already too early for us in the summer time when it gets darker much later. At the very least, it should have been said apologetically. It came across extremely rude. This is not the first time this restaurant closed well before they should. It’s is a pattern that patrons should be made aware of before they get in their car and make the journey. Unfortunately, other restaurants in the area that had this practice have closed throughout the years. We love local businesses and support them. We prefer restaurants that have proven themselves to be trustworthy with their hours.
I am totally shocked at the lady Maria at this restaurant. First off, she hounded me and huffed and puffed when I paid because I chose not to tip. Then the next day I see my account that SOMEONE took out more than my total was. I hope I am wrong, but it seems someone took it upon themselves to take the tip THEY THOUGHT they should get!? I called and asked to speak to the manager and this same waitress, Maria , would not let me speak to the manager or tell me when they would be in. My money better be returned to me because that is completely illegal to steal someone's money!
I would not recommend this restaurant. Service was slow. Waitress was nice though. Food wasn't that good. We will not go back.
The food made me sick to my stomach. Will never eat here again. I called and asked questions about the food and was told no onions were in the dish I wanted, when I picked up my food there was about half an onion in the dish. The beef had a horrible smell and taste, the shrimp were horrible and tasted freezer burn the chicken was so dry is crumbled when you tried to stick a fork in it.
