Went to a fabulous party..great time, music and service was great considering the amount of guests.
Fantastic food at more than reasonable price (during happy hour). Good ambiance.
Cheese platter was generous and Great Salmon , also try the local craft beer , easy parking in the neighborhood
My absolute favorite restaurant to go to in all of LA! 100% vibes!
Great service, great food. Seating is tight, but it's such a quaint place!
Haven’t been there yet, but just for info : La poubelle in french means “ the trash can “ Hahahahaha Not very encouraging
This place is amazing! Great ambiance. Excellent customer service. Versatile wine selection and a nice variety of foods on the menu. Love this place!
My wife and I were surrounded by excellent food and great people last night. If you're in Hollywood it is a must! Im soo stoked they are open, and you should be too.
french food, my favorite treat. Food was super flavorful. The place has a good feel to it. I see why this place has a lot of positive reviews.
Besides the great French food, I love to come here because I can order and pay using only my phone. They also have good alcoholic drinks.
Favorite little in the cut spot to eat, very cozy, service is great and the food is stellar. Doesn't take long to be seated even on the busiest nights.
Loved the environment I split a burger with a co-worker and he split his pasta so we could try both. To drink i had a Stella and he took a lauger
Voila! On a trouvé notre place préferée in LA! Lovely atmosphere, great food and extremely friendly (including dog friendly staff). STOP SEARCHING & GO THERE TO EAT!
Good beyond burger and also got to watch two different la poubelle guest tables instigate fights as a bonus. Though it sounds like that's an irregular occurrence.
One of the best dinnig places in LA. I wonder what happened to Luigi, he used to make some of the best home made pizzas ever.
Attended an event in their large party room. Staff was great, food was delicious.
Overall one of the best evening dining and social experiences in Hollywood. Have eaten and entertained here many times and always enjoyed the scene. Cuisine is excellent and reliable, staff is prompt and smart, and the atmosphere is elegant, lively, and comfortable. As close as you can get to a European cosmopolitan bistro in Los Angeles. One of my favorites!
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and felt welcomed even as a table of one! Had a rare burger with fries and both were very tasty (and I'm picky). Service wasn't super speedy but a great spot for a relaxed meal.
My favorite spot. The stuff is super friendly, food is always delicious, great atmosphere, bar. The very nice outside area that reminds me of Europe a lot. Highly recommend it
Local’s only vibe and great happy hour. This is what hollywood at its core should feel like.
La Poubelle presents, for me, a very adult experience. On my last visit, I had the coq au vin. Oddly enough, I never had it before. What a great, complex dish. No wonder it is legendary. I want to have it again next time to appreciate those flavors even more.
Jackie is the best. High prices but amazing food - recommend the nicoise salad and french onion soup - also the filet with green peppercorn sauce. Very dark inside, bring your reading glasses for the menu....
So glad to see this wonderful restaurant surviving the hard times of Covid. The first time I visited was in in 1976 when crepes and live jazz music were the norm. Hope to visit again someday! Steve McG Cape Charles, Virginia
This is the most friendly restaurant in Los Angeles. I loved coming here. Francois, the cousin of the owner is so wonderful friendly and even brought chicken to our dog!! Wow how amazing. Merci et bravo!!
Great happy hour! Great food and drinks at all times with good service. Very chill atmosphere. The outdoor seating is a plus and superb for people watching!
This is the iconic Hollywood spot where actors, artists, musicians, fashionistas, and locals all converge to be seen and hang out. A truly unique bar and restaurant. If you get it, YOU GET IT. Friday nights are wild here.
I live in the neighborhood and have been coming in once every few months for several years. I’ve always had a nice time here whether solo, on a date, or with a bunch of friends. They’re extremely dog friendly which I love, and the bartenders make a solid drink. I wish they’d nix the whole QR code thing, but aside from that I don’t have a single complaint.
We were just looking to get a drink and the other bar down the street had the a/c blasting so we left. We ended up at La Poubelle. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails. Loved the atmosphere! We ended up staying to have dinner and so glad we did! We ordered the pasta vodka sauce and cheeseburger with fries. Everything was delicious! So impressed. We're definitely coming back!
Such a great place. We came by on short notice, met a celebrity, and had a great meal. The chef came out to make sure we enjoyed our meal. A great mix of a simple bar and a high end French restaurant. Definitely go here if you have a chance!!
Very pleasant evening with friendly staffs, I will definitely go back for a delicious and reasonable priced dinner.
First visit to La Poubelle and I went with a group. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly young man named Cody. He made us feel welcome from the second we walked in. Our waiter was a young man named Jake. He was so fast, professional and FUNNY! We laughed the whole time! Great atmosphere, great food, and great staff!!!
First I came with a touch of nostalgia as I was a regular here in the 1970's while living up Beachwood canyon. The Koster's were the quintessential hip french hosts! They were one of the few jazz venues and they tolerated my rudimentary french. The food was french bistro fare with an excellent crepe at fair prices for a starving student. (There was no music on this night.) So here we are returning to LA and voila(!) the bistro I have told my wife about still exists! In fact the same owner's (who was sleeping in the back) daughter, Francoise, has taken over management. Literally nothing, or at least very little has changed! Sadly the crepes are gone. Might be the same tables! The ambiance would be that of a petit village bistro, not really a Parisian version. A broad bar that gives you room to sit back and converse with your neighbor while considering excellent cocktails and french wines or marveling at the power of "Les Fluers du Mal" on its 87th reading. There is limited outdoor seating with heaters. A curated smattering of paintings adorn the walls to the ceiling(again I recognize a few from over 50 years ago!). There is now a youTube film projected on the back wall. It was from Pre Code era classic "Safe in Hell"! Dorothy Mackaill, then as now was a serious distraction with her flaunting "gambs" and insouciance! They are trying the app menu currently and this is a mixed bag IMO wherever you encounter it. You can seek advice from the delivery and seating staff. I was efficient in our case. If I could suggest anything to Francoise I would suggest engaging a francophile couterie of servers so much a part of any restaurant experience, but especially this one.. I remembered the Vodka Penne and it is still this thick cheesy mess. My wife's favorite! We had ratatouille, Moules marinières, salmon, a house salad and and espresso. The Moules (muscles) were steamed to perfection in the traditional shallot garlic butter white wine steaming sauce. A baguette came on request. These were the large Puget sound fellows that I have seen at the french market here Monsieur Marcel. My wife had a Cote d Rhone that was excellent. They have a "happy hour" menu and some of these items came from that choice so the prices were excellent. Everything was literally unchanged in terms of quality from my distant experience. The couple next to us were engaged in a discussion of Trotsky and the dialectic as they downed two bottles of Châteauneuf du Pape! Dialectic indeed! The music mix was modern French like Thérapie TAXI and even Nekfeu! The bathroom has been upgraded and was clean on this occasion.. When you are done you simply walk out with minimal engagement with a delightful staff..triste.. On this short block exists the famous improv Upright Citizens Brigade, Counterpoint record and book store (we were told owned by the couple from my time here ), two other restaurant choices, and yet another magazine and book store. Across the street behind fences and foliage is now the fascist prison complex known as the Church of Scientology. Seems to sit in "counter point" indeed to the enlightenment across Franklin. Parking oddly can be had on the many side streets, and we were able to park easily on this night. I hope you will ignore some of the reviews here and you may well have an alternative to the effete or mundane so common here in LA.
What an amazing experience at LaPoubelle Bistro! We attended an engagement party for our son and future daughter in law and the venue was just perfect! The food was over the top!! The bar tenders and servers we so attentive and polite! I would highly recommend having your next party at LaPoubelle's event room!!
Love this spot, between the food, the people and the decor is y the perfect Friday night
Lots of fun and a historic Hollywood restaurant. They were very polite to me as a tourist.
First time trying this restaurant and it was wonderful. The staff was great, food was delicious, reasonably priced, and he whole place was just a great experience. Would definitely recommend. Definitely would come back.
This place is SO charming right along with its owner Francois! The food is INCREDIBLE and you’ll have trouble putting the fork 🍴 down! Trevor and the rest of the staff we encountered were super helpful and kind. They used to make you order from a QR code but they are offering “old school service” or that option is still available too! We chose to have a server and enjoyed our conversation, the ambiance, the food 🤤, and Francois is the most precious man ever go support his business! Merci beaucoup! ❤️🥐🇫🇷
Went for then music, will be back for the food. What a great find/spot! Loved the crowd, the vibe and especially the music venue, Le Son. Felt like a vintage, old school speak easy. Intimate and sophisticated, yet laid back. Great cocktails too! One of my new spots for music or just to hang out, here in LA!
I love French cuisine so a Bistro on Franklin Avenue with a good reputation is an easy sell to me. Tonight we dined outside and I really like being able to sit and watch all the foot and car traffic go by. It’s also right across from the Church of Scientology Celebrity Center so it adds to the only in LA experience. The menu changes often so the options will be different depending on the day. The way it works is you bring up the menu via the QR code and pay for the entire meal, including tip, upfront. Then runners bring out the food to you. This is not the location to go for white glove service, it’s a more casual setting where you order by your phone and can leave as soon as you are done. I started off with the Beet & Goat Cheese Salad and I loved it. It reminded me of Spring and I especially liked the vinaigrette with it. We also ordered fries for the table and they were delicious and went quickly. For my entrée I chose the grilled Branzino and it was very crispy and cooked well. That’s a personal favorite fish of mine so it was nice to see it as an option on the menu. Overall a really nice casual option in East Hollywood with easy parking and flexible seating. There is a lot of street parking, as well as a parking lot behind it and the large Gelson‘s lot next to it.
Excellent specials, good food, love the interior, great pre-show spot to theater next door.
Good food but missing a lot of ingredients for normal popular mixed drinks.
Fresh pasta. Brussel leaves appetizer was very good. Nice background music. Overall loud, not suitable for conversation.
Table right next to kitchen, super congested. Escargot was amazing. Coq Au Vin was really good. Service was very good.
Great French style cuisine. French Onion soup is pretty killer and the steak frites is also delicious.
A unique experience. Burger is delicious and they have great Happy Hours. Dimmed lighting make it romantic. No table service though, all through the phone.
Delicious food, 10/10. Try their pasta. Good portion sizes, friendly waitstaff, and a big menu. My only gripe is the burgers are on the lunch menu so you can't get them after a certain time and the line was out the door, had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Worth it.
The service was very slow the night that I went but it just looked understaffed for a monday night. The food was delicious
We ordered 2 types of pasta, it was well cooked, but me and my wife don't like them, and we expected less fat.
Waiter not very attentive.. and he did not mention that the americano coffee is not refill... so I paid $5 each...!!! Plus he noticed me struggling with the menu and he did not bother to remove it after I used.!!
Very reasonably priced. Nice outdoor seating. The food was a little heavy. 3.5 stars.
This place has very good prices at happy hour first time I ordered the chicken piccata was delicious but second time I came food took really long to come I ate alone cuz my friends food wouldn’t come, also the drinks are taking forever
Very overpriced. First of all the menu on Google maps is very old and the prices are 1.5 times higher. There is no parking and no live music. For the price they charge - not worth it. They don’t even have paper menus for all and orders are online. Although, the food is good.
Food was great...of what was left. No more ratatouille. The Can't stop won't stop mimosas lured us in. Nope, outta those. They have Regular mimosas though. Ginger beer... 3 strikes, they're out of those too.
$46 for two mediocre drinks. Dinner was decent. Except for the fact they make you pay right when you order and expect a tip. So like a normal person I refused to sign till after our meal. I like the original feel of the restaurant but won’t be back.
Have been going here since the 90’s - food is consistently great, service is terrible. Had to ask several times for silverware and food had already arrived! The system of ordering via app, paying prior to food’s arrival is backward given you must tip before being served. It’s obvious restaurant is tying to save money by hiring less staff, but unhappy customers don’t make for a pleasant dining experience
Had dinner before a concert @ The Greek Theatre so it was around 5:45 pm (early). What surprised us at first is that they had NO French Wines available and the wine list was not even a list. Mind you, this is a French Restaurant! Food was good, but also we would have enjoyed more if there was an apparent staff meeting happening at the back tables of the restaurant.
We came during happy hour and got a lot of half priced appetizers. The food was good, but I feel like it was way too dark inside. The style is really cool with all the interesting stuff on the walls, but I felt like it was hard to appreciate it all with how dark it was. Also, don’t get the carbonated water - It tasted foul.
The drinks are absolutely divine. I had an Eartha Kitt and felt like growling like Cat Woman. My boyfriend had a Bloody Maria and loved it as well, the food while prepared well wasn't as flavorful as we would have liked. Service was also great I just feel like the food could have been seasoned more.
This restaurant is in violation of county health orders. More than 50 people packed into this sidewalk shacks patio tonight. People watching is gonna be expensive for those that actually eat here, which i would not recommend.
kind of awkward how the food comes out at different times even for a seated party, and nothing was super great. disappointing as it’s a cute atmosphere and really lively and fun.
Just decent french food. Had the coq au vin, which wasn’t properly spiced. The carrots in it weren’t cooked enough. Maybe it’s their spin on the dish, but I wouldn’t consider it an improvement. The house cabernet wasn’t good either. Too pricy for what it sells, Sorry!
Food was fine, but this is the kind of spot where you pay for your entire meal and drinks and tip through your phone when you first sit down. Not the end of the world but I definitely regretted my generous tip since the bartender neglected making my drink despite asking multiple times (I could see him looking at me and deciding to continue on with his conversation with the one other person in the near-empty restaurant). Not ideal when you're the only one without a drink to do a cheers, and you have to stand up for yourself so actively just to get your one drink before you're finished with your entree.
this place is overrated. the waiters are weird and don’t provide good service. i think they forgot about one of our entrees. we came for happy hour but everything came in random orders even the drinks. the waiters think they can get away with whatever they want cause they’re hot and have a performative rag on their shoulders. one of the waitresses like made out with her boyfriend on the floor and then he grabbed a keyboard out of the kitchen and ran out. my burger didn’t come on a plate but like a togo box. cesar salad in a broken bowl. she keeps pacing. at one point my way by frank sinatra played really loud. and then no music the rest of the night. skip it. but cute lamps.
I had 2 cocktails. They were overpriced, and not good. They tasted unbalanced and watered down.
The server dropped a plate, it shattered. He walked away. Did not clean it up. I had to ask him to clean it. There was shards of everywhere. I had to ask him to replace our drinks-- he didnt think of doing that. My white pants had blood drips-- my hands were cut and I didnt notice until I saw the blood. The dinner experience was a disaster. Did they remove anything from the bill---no! Because you prepay with a credit card. This is a "never" again place.
Really disappointed. A dismally mediocre beet salad(more lettuce than beets), a bread order that didn’t come until the entrée, and watery tasteless Arrabbiata sauce on over cooked penne. The vibe is ok and the lighting is nice but the food is unforgivable and I won’t be back.
Food was overpriced and TERRIBLE for the cost. We genuinely got a laugh at how bad even the simplest dish, bread and butter, is here. The atmosphere and decor are nice, but it doesn't make this place anywhere near worth the time or money.
Pretty awful. A trash can indeed (poubelle = trash can in French). I will pay good $ for good food but this wasn’t it. Their outdoor heaters weren’t working. The fries were just regular fries for $8. The burger 🍔 with bechamel instead of mayo sorely missed the spot. The lentil soup tasted out of a can. There were no napkins on the table. Service was slow. And the bathrooms are disgusting (see photos). On top of this, you have to order online and pay + tip before you experience the service. Peculiar and annoying quirk. Want great and genuine French fare? Try the charming restaurant on Vermont Ave actually owned and run by a Frenchman.
One of the staff members was very rude. Will not come again. They do not sanitize/wash the water bottles served on the table, just refill them
I had a very bad experience! I am French and the food was very mediocre. very disappointed
The most astonishing experience of my life- we look up at the TVs, which all play TCM, and a graphic Holocaust documentary is on, rife with images of piles of emaciated corpses. I ask the bartender to change it. She says the manager doesn’t like to have the channel changed. I direct her attention to the TVs. She: “Oh yeah, that comes on sometimes.” Can you change it? Is the owner here, I ask? Someone goes to look into it. Bartender: You’re not having enough fun, most people don’t notice it! Me: 🧐 Her: I know how you feel. I mean, I’M Jewish so I get it. Me: Yeah, we’re Jewish too. Her: Yes, but I’M an Eastern EUROPEAN Jew, so. Me: So... you REALLY understand how this comes off? Her: [walks away] Me: Can we get the check? Her: Do you want us to change the channel? Me: Just the check please. Her: So you DON’T want us to change the channel? Me: PLEASE don’t trouble yourself any further, we’re leaving. Her, under her breath to the other ‘tender: They’re just being babies. So yeah, boycott La Poubelle.
I visited LA and was looking for a French restaraunt. I decided to give this place a try. Don't waste your money. Horrible food and I come to find out, it's name means bin/trash.
Rude owner, terrible service from waiters and bartenders. The food is mid, desserts are likely from Costco. This place is just not fun as a bar and terrible for dinner
One could only call this place French if they’ve never heard of France before visiting. What a disgrace. Drunks everywhere, staff is inattentive, laughable food. Baffling.
Negative stars. One of the saddest and worst dining experiences in my life. Have to order from your phone. Food was gross. I hated it. Never going back.
WORST FOOD EVER!! ACTUALLY FOUND MOLD ON MY BREAD. THE OWNER IS VERY RUDE AND CUSSED OUT OUR TABLE. THERE WERE ROACHES IN THE BATHROOM ALSO.
French portions do not work in america you’re feeding humans not birds !
Had a bad experience here last night, my food was not well made as well as the staff being very rude to me for no reason. The place was also really dirty and smoking all over the pace
Welp, service is terrible here. Appetizers came out at the same time as half of our tables entrees while completely forgetting my entree. We asked about it and by the time everyone else had finished it finally came out. I just had the waiter box it up because it came out so late. Then there was no effort to correct or even apologize for the late food I didn’t get to eat, but I was too tired to even bother fighting it. So I guess I just got some really expensive take out after sitting in a restaurant for over two hours... I won't be going back or recommending this place to anyone I know. The food was okay.
Got a salad from there when I move the lettuce leaves hundreds of baby spiders came out. I wish I would've taken a picture of it. Management didn't seem to care too much. They were more worried about the protesters outside instead of their patrons terrible place to go.
They make you order with the QR code so you have to tip in advance, which is absolutely insane because the service is terrible. The food is good, but for the price and the experience is not worth it.
15 minutes for water, another 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken, then after the people next to us sat down and ordered 20 min AFTER we did, we flagged down our waiter to ask if he could please take our order. Im assuming the 3 celebrities eating at the restaurant were a distraction, but you'd think they would be used to it. When the table next to us got their food, we started looking at our watches and our waiters eyes got huge and he ran to the computer. He had completely and totally forgotten to put our order in. I could tell he was scrambling to tell the kitchen to rush our order and in doing so they didn't prepare our dishes the way we asked for them. My meal was raw and inedible. My French onion soup was bland. In hurrying, they forgot to add salt or any other discernible flavor. La Poubelle, if you're reading this, tell your waiters that apologies and admitting when you've made a mistake goes a long way instead of acting like people don't matter.
Tried to dine in but after waiting 1 hour gave up and left. Wait staff rude patrons overly intoxicated. Smoke thick for non Smoking restaurant. What a waste of our short vacation.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OF MONEY SUPPORTING THIS BUSINESS.This place is trash. Pretty ridiculous they don't even take your order. You have to take your own order, which doesn't even work half the time or charges you twice for the same order. Then they expect you to tip for service when you don't get any service. What a joke. Waiting for answers on if our order went in or not and wasting time.
Asked for no garlic in a dish, waitress said of course it’s okay, absolutely, definitely .... here we go.. pasta stunk with garlic ...! Waitress took away unfinished bottle of wine, when she was asked to bring it back she said it’s already in a trash ... come on !!! Have you given up?
Yelp removes valid reviews so posting here. I traveled to the LA area to pick up a puppy from my dog breeder. I thought I'd get a bite to eat before the long trek back home, somewhere nice I thought. I don't experience LA all that often. The food here isn't that good, the service is worse the atmosphere sucks. The place is full of overly drunk people who then leave and go to their cars and drive drunk without intervention, and they illegally allow smoking in a tent off of the front door so you have to walk through cigarette smoke to even get in there. Then when you get inside you order remotely and if you do have interaction with an employee half the time they are rude and all for food that you could microwave at home.
Cockroaches in the bathroom. Drunks bringing their drinks out onto the sidewalk and a lot of people smoking in the tented sidewalk area that’s supposed to be just for dining. The crowd is rowdy and foul mouthed. Definitely not a family restaurant. They serve turkey meatballs as French cuisine and the food is not from fresh ingredients. Terrible rude service…
Terrible service, 75% of their menu wasn't available, mediocre food. Waiter completely forgot my order. All of that I can look past. But a 'French" restaurant unloading supplies out front, shouldn't let the patrons know that they are serving frozen french fries. I mean, if you aren't even going to try, at least pretend to try? I have been coming to LA for years, always trying new and established places. This is easily, one of the worst restaurants in the city. Why people still come here, I have no clue. If I could give them a negative star, I would. Lives down to it's french name.
Well that was not a good experience, was told for local French go here. Don't!!!! I've seen better plates of food at roadside diner. Now I know why the actual name of the restaurant translated is garbage can.
Food was meh but not worth it for the horrible service. Went there for happy hour and ordered food at 6:45 and the rest of my table received their food by 7:15. I still hadn’t received my food by 7:45 and by then the rest of my table was done eating. I asked multiple waitresses where my food was and they seemed unaware that anything was missing. I had to ask the waitress for my food multiple times and finally received my food by 8:15.
I rarely have ever given a 1 star review. Sat for 20 minutes without any attention. Sat for 40 minutes without water. Coq au vin I ordered looked unappetizing and tasted sub par. Tons of bay leaf stems that felt like fish bones with every bite. Took 3 bites and could not stomach any more.
