My sister recommended this wonderful Diner! Nicole was our waitress and her service was absolutely amazing!! Thank you will definitely be returning. ;) food was awesome get the cinnamon French toast you won’t be disappointed and coffee was on point.
This is maybe the most diner-y diner I've ever been to, and I came recommend it enough. Cozy, friendly atmosphere. About $15/person for our meals (breakfast), and it was delicious!
This place is amazing! The food was phenomenal and the banter between the staff was great. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area. Let's go Mets!-Cook wearing the hat Let's go Devils!-The owner
Visited while on a business trip absolutely great diner food and service 😋
When you envision a diner and diner food/waitresses, this is the place you are thinking about. Not only are the waitresses kind and pleasant, but also extremely knowledgeable regarding food allergies and gluten free. The cooks were very careful regarding minimizing cross contamination and did an excellent job.
My go-to diner. The food is phenomenal, the staff is great, and the atmosphere is unmatched. The Black Russian Sandwich is out of this world amazing. The Black and Blue Burger with onion rings and the balsamic sauce is excellent as well.
I went there today for the first time and I loved it! The food was great, but the best part was the people. The energy was amazing!! Such beautiful, friendly people. What a great staff. The patrons too! What a great place to be. Thank you "the Diner" for the experience
I would give more than 5 stars if I could. We're not from this area so landed here on a whim. It's small, but that's the only drawback. We had 5 people who were each BEYOND satisfied with their meal. The Reuben may be the best around, and my son is still talking about the taco wrap. Fantastic service from very friendly wait staff, and great prices. Hard to beat.
A little bit of a wait, and a little snug, but CERTAINLY worth it. Friendly service, and the food is very well worth the money. I had the steak and eggs with home fries and peppers with the steak medium-rare, and I'm telling you it is to DIE for 😋 The food was so good I forgot my phone which they kindly set aside 😅 For anyone in the area I recommend going at LEAST once a month. Remember to tip!
Stopped in after Hockey with my son and family. Its about 10min from downtown Elmira. Amazing food, all made from scratch in front of us on the griddle. Though it is a small diner, wait! It's worth it. Staff and food were top notch. I wish I had prepared better, we would have featured this on our YT Channel.
I've eaten here for both breakfast and lunch. For breakfast I love their kielbasa and eggs. For lunch everything is good but, my most favorite is their side salad and Italian dressing. It is served in a bowl and you can eat it without getting it all over the counter. In fact, I believe it is the best side salad in New York.
Cozy little diner nestled in town. Perfect for some breakfast, a sandwich, or a cup of coffee. Service was excellent.
Great place! Delicious food! Fantastic service which made it a pleasurable dining experience!
Great service! The servers are friendly and fast.
This place was so cool! You are in a train car and the food was great! The waitresses were super nice too!
This is the best breakfast place in Horseheads, in my opinion, but they also offer lunch! They have amazing food, service, and prices. All around, one of the best. There is limited seating, but the wait is worth it. They also offer outdoor seating during warmer weather.
My husband and I both really enjoyed this place. It's small so don't come with a group larger than 4. The country fried steak, eggs and home fries with sourdough toast, were so good that I forgot to offer my husband a taste lol.
Great atmosphere. Great people would definitely stop here again. The bus driver.
Great food Great classic dining car diner feel the atmosphere was phenomenal
Great place. Historical and comfy. Food is great and staff attentive and friendly.
We loved everything about The Diner…the food, the atmosphere, and the service? The best!! Susan couldn’t have been more welcoming. We loved her! Thanks to the whole staff (and regulars!) for the most delicious and memorable breakfast. I wish we could move you to Wisconsin!
Wonderful experience! Besides the old school charmed, the food was absolutely delicious! much higher quality than your standard American diner.
Great small family dinner. Will go back every time my wife and I are in town. I recommend sitting at the counter and watch the cook. Great food and a show.
Had to come back and edit my 6 year old review. The diner is awesome and a staple in the area. The food here is almost always top notch, the staff is awesome. Really my ONLY complaint with the diner is how small it is. There are only 5 booths for proper seating (and a bunch of seats at the countertop, plus outdoor seats in the summer). It's worth waiting for though, it is hands down the best breakfast and lunch in the area. They're usually pretty quick too.
I love this place with all my heart. The seating is a problem for sure because there isn’t a ton of seating, but the food never fails to impress me. It is made with love and you can tell. The servers are ALWAYS kind, patient and attentive. Pricing is fantastic for the quality and the quantity. I always get the French toast or the breakfast bowl and both are amazing. I have tried other breakfast places in the town and NONE are as good as the Diner. We went to another one recently because the diner was packed and we were very sad and disappointed to not have gotten food from the Diner. Nothing compares to their food and we will ONLY be visiting the Diner for breakfast and brunch from now on. Try it and you won’t be disappointed. Much love to the staff and owners of the Diner!!!
Away for weekend stay in area. We only eat local and this place had great reviews. Well, it didn't disappoint. Small place and big food.
My girlfriend and I stopped in to have breakfast. Cozy rail car diner right in town. I had the Jimmy Scramble, and my girlfriend had a Belgian Waffle. The food, service and setting are fantastic! We will definitely be back!
My wife and I were in Canada and New York for our anniversary we stayed at a hotel in Elmira/Horsehead NY, I suggested we go somewhere for breakfast I googled diners and found this place we went there and man all I can say is the service was great and the food was fantastic we will definitely be stopping by this place again in the future, I highly recommend this place food and service is amazing, thank you for the great service and the fantastic food, may I suggest the breakfast bowl, it is amazing with the corn beef hash.
A train carriage converted into a Cafe in a town called Horsehead. I dropped in for brunch on my drive between NYC and Buffalo. The carriage contains a lot of original features, sliding carriage doors, small restroom, and wooden booths. The menu is good American breakfasts cooked fast and well. I sat at the bar and saw a stream of takeout happening. They are popular on a Sunday morning! They take credit cards and welcome strangers.
We came to the finger lakes for our honeymoon and were looking for a small town diner to eat breakfast. The Diner did not disappoint! The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was amazing! 10/10 recommend!!
Food so good it almost made me cry. Sit at the counter where the action is. Amazing staff. I am so upset that we didn’t know about this place sooner
Well we stopped again this year to the Diner for once again a great meal and experience. I have have been coming to Sullivan's Diner for many years when I lived in Upstate New York and now named The Diner to fill up our belly with great food. You will not be disappointed.
Husband and I were looking for somewhere new to go, and we saw the ratings here. First off, it's a tiny, tiny restaurant. We snagged the last table on a Saturday morning, so seating might be tough. Food was really good. We agreed we'd definitely go back again. The sweet potato pancakes tasted like fall!
Exactly what a diner should be. Great food, friendly people, and excellent service. Anyone in the area should definitely stop by!
Adorable rail car diner serving up American classics. One of my favorite stops when I'm in the area.
I have been here many times. Same wonderful waitress always serves with a smile no matter how crazy. Was there for breakfast today and the place was mobbed. I assume a lot are regulars because some were willing to wait. There is definitely a crew of regulars that sur at th we counter. Breakfast always good. Just dont care for the home fries.
First time here. Recommended highly. Omg the quality of food is awesome. Delicious flavors.tastes better than home cooking..wonderful coffee. (I know coffee) generous helpings. Quick service. Smiling friendly staff. Will definitely return and spread the word of this wonderful diner.
When traveling thru that area I always stop by. I was born there 108 Meadowlark Rd. Horseheads NY moved in 2nd grade. Born at St Joe's hospital in Elmira.
My sons and I have been going to The Diner for breakfast for the last four years as we travel the route from Maryland to Ithaca. Breakfast is always great. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service is always spot on and friendly. They are often known to go above and beyond. Thanks for a great experience once again. See you in a few months.
THE MOST AMAZING BREAKFAST I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! I am from California and my Husband is from Horseheads and he brought me to The Diner for breakfast at 6am and I was surprised to see this small diner completely packed that early. I had the Chicken and Waffles and the chicken tenders that were on top of my perfectly fluffy waffle, were ON POINT. This place is worth the travel and I would definitely come again!
Outstanding, my go to spot for breakfast, every chance I get! After leaving NY in 85 to join the Army, and moving around for the past 38 years, I decided to retire last October and moved back to Horseheads. Promising myself to spend my money only on local restaurants, I picked the Diner. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and now I have a favorite place to eat it. Already have planned to start my 100th birthday celebration there. Of course not there yet. Great job Nick and your Diner family! You give me something to look forward to during my retirement.
Boy did we luck out in the middle of a 6 Hour drive to stop at The Diner! Wonderful atmosphere aside (it’s not often you find a sweet old school diner like this anymore), our food was fantastic. I had the Cuban sandwich, made with roast pork ham and pickles on sourdough, and kicked in a little extra to get the tater tots. Excellent. Staff was lovely and friendly and it made me wish that I lived a lot closer.
Fantastic diner! Old timey feel, a true classic. This is the sort of place you walk in and know you're about to eat well! I had the corned beef hash and eggs. Their home made corned beef hash was spectacular, quite possibly the best I've ever had. I ordered my eggs over medium and they hit that perfectly which a lot of places tend to mess up. We also had The Bambino with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, toast and a GIANT pancake (which naturally we ordered with chocolate chips). The pancake didn't even need syrup it was decadent! Every part of the meal was great 👍! We will surely be making the trip from Corning more often!
Wow! Where to start?! This is THE quintessential Anericana diner, and one that affords a bounty of both uncompromising quality and unapologetic antiquated ambience. We were treated extremely graciously by our waitress, and food was served piping hot and expediently. The meal selection caters to the faithful diner standby meal(s) selection, with emphasis on breakfast and lunch (served anytime between 5 am-2 pm). The customers were friendly and the diner had an incredibly wholesome sensibility. It stands as a gorgeous and delicious relic of the halcyon years when once upon a time, diners were ubiquitously dotting the American landscape, circa 1950’s. I want to thank The Diner for their personable attentiveness and service, alongside outstanding food! A truly great visit and highly recommended!
This was a quintessential diner with wonderful service, took a some bit of time as they were packed. But we had an incredible medium rare hamburger (frequently overdone) and a high stacked BLT that was just wonderful. The homemade fried chips were excellent - order them over the fries that were good but not excellent.
It was amazing. Food unbelievable. Service spectacular. So many good f[d options didn't know what to get. We'll worth the drive from PA. We'll definitely be returning.
Stopped in for breakfast on our way home from Ithaca Sunday morning. The place was packed and we had a short wait for a couple of seats. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. We would absolutely come back again if we're ever back in the area.
The Diner is fantastic! The train car and old style diner feel provide an amazing spot to enjoy breakfast. The service is exceptional, always quick and friendly. Food is cooked right in front of you and the exact diner food you want, delicious. Their menu is great, lots of favorites and their occasional breakfast specials are always amazing. Only gripe is that it's very small, so you may be waiting for a table without anywhere to stand to wait. They added some picnic tables outside for extra seating in the summer which helps. Definitely worth the wait though!
Hands down, the best biscuits and sausage gravy I've found north of the mason dixon line. I knew I was in for that good shit as soon as I walked up and saw "breakfast served all day" but the daily hours are 6am-2pm.
Got the giant pancake and it was giant and delicious! Please was clean. They have the ketchup and syrup on the tables, and they were both full - I'm used to going places and usually the ketchup is empty and you have to ask for another. A small thing, but it shows they pay attention. Overall, a very good experience and I wouldn't mind going again.
WOW what a little gem and find!!!!!!! We like trying new places to eat and did a search for diners in the area. We drove 30 minutes and were amazed. Great small town diner. Food was amazing, staff super friendly and full of local patrons willing to chat with someone new. Definitely will be back. Any time we’re heading west again we will be stopping here. You have a wonderful place.
Cool place! Great food, perfectly prepared. Portion size was just right. Good service. Good prices. Good coffee. Good corned beef hash. Over-easy eggs perfectly prepared. Some clever items on the menu, like the Jalapeno Popper Burger, which was good. Love the atmosphere; but the place is small. Be prepared to sit at the counter if a table isn't available. During nice weather, they do have a few picnic tables outside on the left side. There are entrances on the left side and in the center of the front. In bad or cold weather, consider entering by the center door, because patrons might be sitting right by the left door. Plenty of parking.
Great food . Speedy service highly recommend. Also servers bust there butt so they deserve Great tips. Please help them out guys & gals. And shout-out to the cooks for keeping there cool. when it's hectic and still doing a highly Awesome job 😁 ! on the food and getting it out to the customers 😉 . Me & my wife love this place it's a favorite added to my Google maps! Love it . The bambina is my favorite on the menu not sure if I spelled it right but it's definitely a recommendation to all. And semi cheap. $10 to $20 dollars ish.. keep up the awesome work! All. #never give up #You got this!
Awesome place for breakfast! We were traveling through and chose The Diner for breakfast. We got there early, which was a good thing because it filled up quickly. The server was friendly and helpful and the food was great! The lunch specials looked good enough to come back. I would highly recommend The Diner for breakfast.
I’ve been to a lot of American diners and hardly any ever had lasting impression until I went to the diner. What a cosy little place. Instantly fell in love with the vibe because of the super smiling welcoming staff! Our meal was delicious cooked fresh and in front of us! Ordered the tuna melt- divine ! And omelette and fried eggs. All quickly eaten up because they were so good and fresh! The coffee tasted great too. Forever grateful to the kind hostess who generously let me have their water glass as a memento. Like I said not all diner institutions leave a lasting impression and now this one will live on in my home ❤️
Stopped in for a late breakfast on a Saturday and the place was hopping! Scott and Chris, the short order cooks, were so fun to watch as they happily worked with a smile to make everyone their meals!! The staff is friendly and helpful! The diner has a great 1950's vibe and I love their Tshirts with their logo! Ordered an omelet which was yummy!! A must visit when looking for home style cooking on a budget!!
Food was delicious. Corn beef hash is slamming. Only thing is that my steak didn't come out the way I ordered. Asked for med rare came out well done smh. All in all though it was good. 8 out of 10
We ate at picnic table outside. It was busy but service was good. I felt it was a bit expensive for breakfast.
My beautiful wife and I stopped for a meal. Sandy had chicken tenders & french fries, I had the breakfast bowl. Both were delicious! We highly recommend The Diner. First time there, Old timers lol's. Go and chow down!!!!
Neat diner but really slow service, we were there at lunch time on a Sunday and probably waited about 40 minutes for our food. Parking lot is very tight, if you can't find a space you won't find a table.
A great stop in diner, good food, good vibes, really friendly staff. Sometimes they get slammed with customers so it may take a while to get what you want.
Super small spot. I wouldn't recommend it for parties over 4 people. Prices are decent. Basic diner choices with a little flare. All of the staff were incredible! Waitresses were on point. The food was very basic. Sausage patties tasted like frozen Walmart patties. Hash browns were very bland. Pancakes were a little gummy. Regular fries were good along with their burger. If it weren't for the staff and the cleanliness I would have left 2 stars. The place is very well taken care of, very clean, very packed. Standing wait time on a Sunday late morning was 15 minutes.
I ordered the Corn Beef Hash Omelette which combines my favourite breakfast items into one dish. The home fries were tiny so they weren't as fluffy as I hoped but the omelette was amazing. It was very busy so sadly we did not get to sit inside. But the inside was so cool. Outside is more wheelchair accessible and high chair friendly. A word of warning, the bathrooms are tiny (think airplane) and very tight to use.
The Diner was/is an unique place. It is not your normal brick and mortar. It is an old passenger train car. The door slides to come inside the restaurant. We had breakfast. It was good. I only gave it four stars because I sent my bacon back. It was limp. I prefer my bacon cooked longer. Keep that in mind when ordering. Overall, everything was good. Our waitress was friendly. The place was packed. Clean and didn't smell like grease.
Super cute! We’re passing through and stopped in. 1) the menu was so creative and fun. 2) the atmosphere was adorable. Larger parties- probably would need outside seating bc it has very authentic booths. 3) (and most importantly to this traveler) the bathroom was so CLEAN!! A great little gem. Food was great, it did come from a solo cook, so save your stop when you have a moment to relax and take in the experience.
We came in wasn’t greeted for about 4 minutes had a table come in after us. They were greeted promptly and given drinks. We got our drinks and food quick. Than waited another 10 minutes for the check. The waitress was kind. We will not be going back.
Food itself not bad could be better. Shame when eggs and hash browns are $5.99 here and at other diners are $2.99. The staff some not a whole seen very standoffish when you tell them something's wrong and act like it's not until you it's not until they actually taste it and it is wrong which is ridiculous 99% of the time customer is always right. Plus kids menu who gives a kid a half a hot dog and maybe a quarter cup of fries and charge of $6 for it ridiculous Plus how do you swear like a sailor in front of kids when they're in a diner just bad practice. These are just my opinions but the only thing good about this place is in historical value that there are many look like this around but with that for my family it's a one and done we will not be back and I wish them all the best of luck .
So I'm giving this a 1 star. As a long time consumer of this place its had its ups and downs. But after today im just done. At one point it was good and then something happen. They started messing up my very simple order almost once or twice a month. I would visit weekly for reference. So in turn I stopped going. After several months I came back there and the first 2 times were ok. This time today they completely forgot part of my order. Again a very simple order that I've gotten every time. I guess its just quite clear its always gonna be a roll of the dice when it comes to getting what I ordered. With that said I wont be going here any longer and they have lost me as a consumer.
