5 of us visited for dinner on a Monday evening. Setting is beautiful, staff brilliant & friendly but the food was absolutely amazing. Every dish was cooked to prefection & the presentation was stunning, far higher quality than average pub food & not overly priced. We will definitely be back as there are more dishes I want to try!!
Stayed here the night before my wedding. Lovely pub, great food and drinks. The chef even agreed to begin breakfast 30 mins earlier than normal due to the time we had to be at the wedding venue which was massively appreciated considering he didn’t have to say yes. Friendly welcoming staff too, would highly recommend
I visited here today with friends for Sunday lunch today, 4/5/25. Despite living in East Grinstead I have never been here but I have driven through the village before. What a fantastic pub. I had the roasted vegetable Wellington and it was very tasty and well presented. Side vegetables were perfectly cooked, the roast potatoes crispy but not burnt, and the gravy full of flavour. Toilets were clean and staff smiley and helpful. I will definitely be returning many times in the future as this pub is so worth the visit.
Excellent Sunday roast. Really warm and friendly staff. Food was yummy! Will deffo be back. Special thanks to Abbie
Great value Sunday Carvery, friendly service, dog friendly and plenty of parking. Will return.
Spot on as always By Arnie and Julie! The Carvery today was a 10/10 along with the great atmosphere as usual!
A lovely traditional pub that doesn't excellent food at a good price. *** I had fish and chips and politely asked for a decent amount of chips, which I got ( I can't stand going out for food, and getting a meal that doesn't fill me up) The staff were lovely, and I'll definitely be going back.
We stayed in the area to visit family and wanted an English pub experience. We got it! Food was great, staff we awesome and so accommodating. Thanks guys, gave us Australians a great time in a great location.
We had a fantastic meal last night , the pub is so well presented, in a very pleasant location with a cricket pitch out back. Plus good seating outside and inside. The staff were so friendly and super organised. The food was outstanding, faultless , tasty and pretty amazing menu ! Would thoroughly recommend. Plus gorgeous hanging baskets makes so appealing first impression important!
Perfect! Sociable, friendly atmosphere; fantastic staff; food way out of the usual league of pub food; fabulous setting… I could go on! In a nutshell, a great pub to eat, stay, or both as we did.
The pub has started doing brunch on Sundays 9-11 and it is excellent, up there with the best fry ups I have had. Shout out to all the staff who are fantastic. Plus you can grab a Sunday paper from the village shop.
Booked a room for the night as going to a local wedding, due to a unforeseen situation we could no longer stay and had to head home only hours after checking in, Room was absolutely perfect with no flaws, very cosy with a big bathroom and we heard no noise from downstairs pub on a busy Saturday evening. All staff were so friendly and understanding with us, refunding the room with no question, Julie the manager so so friendly and understanding she has a heart of gold. If we are in the area again we will definitely go in for a pint and a laugh some of the friendliest folk we've met. Thank you all at the Crown Inn
Had a lovely lunch yesterday with friends. The food was excellent, best meal we've had in sometime, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going back.
Living close by, we use the Crown regularly for family get togethers, a quiet meal for two, birthdays, etc. The food is amazing, the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Dog friendly, and the local cricket pitch is just behind the pub, so you can watch the cricket with a nice cold drink in the summer.
We stopped in for lunch. The pub is lovely and the menu was varied and interesting. Our food was delicious and very generous portions! The staff were really friendly and the social distancing was really well managed.
Beautiful country pub, full of charm and original features. I visited with a group of friends. The food was delicious, freshly prepared and plentiful, tailored to our individual requirements. The service was superb and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We were made to feel at home. I would highly recommend this pub for a couple, group or function venue.
What a fantastic pub. Extremely welcoming and friendly. Very large with plenty of seating inside and also outside at the front and rear with the latter overlooking the cricket pitch. Good selection of drinks and food. Great value for money. Well worth a visit
We keep returning to the Crown, it's a beautiful building, the food is great, varied and well priced and we are always assured of a warm and friendly welcome by Jules, Arnie and the rest of their staff. I particularly enjoy the Fishy Friday two courses for £25. We visited with family on a Saturday and had a happy and memorable pre-Christmas meal.
Couldn't really fault our Sunday lunch. We were a bit apprehensive about a carvery, but we were both pleasantly surprised. Great choice of meat (beef, pork, lamb and venison) and lovely sides. We'll be back - with friends.
Our first time at The Crown for Sunday lunch. Excellent food, with lots of lovely vegetable choices. Very reasonable price and lovely friendly staff. Fantastic.
Sunday lunch with my husband was delicious. Aside from the normal meats, they had venison!! I was so happy. The portion sizes were a good size, not huge (thank god) but at decent amount of food. It was quiet with two large parties, and our server did apologise for the wait for food, which was not a problem as it arrived quickly. Well cooked and hot and served with a smile. There is a good sized carpark at the rear of the pub next to the cricket pitch. A lovely outdoor space with seating is also available . Everywhere was clean and neat. Lovely pub on a village green.
Very cosy, family friendly pub with incredible food and service. We visit frequently for a Sunday lunch and the food is always exceptional!! Highly recommend.
Excellent carvery lunch today. Very comfortable table and great service. The carvery was great with a good variety of vegetables.
Visited with friends last night for their butchers night, meat was amazing, cooked to my liking and the sides were good. There was also a pianist, greta night. Thanks Tim, Jules and the team.
Lovely, friendly pub with rooms. Great service. Very reasonable prices. I can't rate the rooms because I never stayed in any of them.
We had a delicious lunch at The Crown today. The chicken, leek & tarragon pie was exceptional and they made accommodations for a allergy. Great service too!
Excellent food and few choices of locally brewed ales. Reasonably priced for nearly a gastro pub fine dining standard! Been back twice and will keep going back again!
I loved this place. A true English pub that serves the tastier Sunday dinner. So glad we had the chance to visit this place and enjoy dinner here. The mulled wine was good too!!
Hands down the best cheese ploughman’s I’ve had. Really friendly staff and idyllic village location. They kindly refroze my ice packs and allowed our school students to refill their water bottles and use the loo on their camping expedition. We’ll be back next year.
Genuinely good. Exceptional cooking for a good price.
Nice food, Inventive menu not just the same old pub grub. Pleasant service and it has a nice atmosphere
Yummy. Lovely roast chicken for Sunday lunch with a cheeky glass of Pinot in the lovely outdoors area. All served nicely, excellent roast potatoes. A simple meal done brilliantly and served with a smile. Well done, The Crown. I'll definitely come back.
We had some lunch here today and it was really very good. It was great that everything was good and hot too! I've never had so much fish in a fish pie before, it was lovely.
Excellent Sunday lunch, the locally sourced meat used for all meals is some of the best tasted ; roast beef, sausages and filet steak are out of this world. Staff are very friendly and helpful always a warm welcome.
My son had roast beef and said it was delicious. I had the terrine which was also very tasty. Efficient and friendly service. Very reasonable prices too. Thank you.
Catered for a party of 20 for lunch on Saturday with ease. Staff were faultless in there level services. Very friendly and had no problem with the numbers or all variations called for by 12 children. Every single dish was superb.
Wow! What a find. Glorious pub with fantastic food and well kept beer. Lovely friendly staff and clean, comfortable rooms. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Thoroughly recommend!
Very nice pub we stop off on Sunday for some lunch we had the olive bread and oils which was really nice olives plus chicken wings and ribs and a very good pint of three acre. As for the staff they was excellent and friendly
Very nice vibe in this Pub. Made to feel very by Tim, Ollie and staff too. Sunday lunch was very good and we will definitely be back. Many thanks
Had my birthday meal at The Crown Inn on Boxing Day 2025. Warm welcome. Promptly seated. We were asked if we wanted drinks very promptly. Water and drinks came shortly afterwards. They took our food order and starters came not long after. Three of us had tomato soup and one had goat cheese. Soup was ok, and I reckon home made and came with nice bread. I think goat’s cheese was good. I had the last Turkey pie, which was a proper pie, not pastry top as some cheap pubs try and get away with. It came with mash potatoes and sadly, only small amount of veg, otherwise it was perfect. Two had salmon which they liked. My son had fish and chips, which didn’t look like it was very good; he said it was only ok and a small thin piece of fish, though the chips were nice. Only I had dessert, but bizarrely was charged £9 when menu said £8 🤷🏽♂️. Overall we liked the Crown Inn, very nice, friendly staff and were promptly served. Beer and lager were nice. We thought prices were reasonable. Probably would go back.
After being devastated by a lightning strike ten or so years ago the pub is now a quality pub with two cosy bars and a prestigious restaurant in a modern extension at the rear. Very welcoming and privately owned. Keeps excellent ales giving priority to locally brewed micros. Gastro type lunch menu. Would benefit from a broader choice of dishes for those wishing to limit their calorie intake.
I went for 'Fish Friday' but the menu was the usual mix. I ordered fish and chips as I was hanging out for fish, shame, I would have been a bit more adventurous but figured the fish thing was only some Fridays. It was OK - much the same as a takeaway but cost a lot more. I would say whatever it was cooked in was almost ready for a change. Later an adjoining table got what looked like mussels and as I left the blackboard did say fish every Friday - so I just got given the wrong menu. I overheard some conversation during my time there - something about supporting both pubs in town (the way things are they are lucky to have two), but it didn't sound like they were here because it was superior. My experience was very average and I had better, cheaper food over the road.
Visited on a busy Sunday afternoon, 6 of us. High food prices so was expecting great food. Some said their food was nice, others that it was not good. Nice environment. Service a bit on slow side.
Newly refurbished looking inside so nice and clean. The bread in my prawn sandwich tasted old and dry. Staff were pleasant but in fairness to them I did not say anything when they asked if all was ok.
The pub is lovely and the food is very good. Unfortunately on our visit they lost our order and we waited over one hour to be served. It seemed a genuine accident however, so we'll give it another try in a few weeks.
Seems to have gone hill since here years ago. We seemed to be only people staying despite 4 bedrooms. Stairs to bedroom not clean. Bedroom still had used/dirty tissues in bedside drawer (I went down with Covid a couple of days after staying here) and empty pill packaging on top of the wardrobe. Whilst the view across the cricket field was pleasant it was not if you looked down to the yard below bedroom window ~ complete with rat traps! Dinner was nothing special with no specials on board and being the only people inside the pub. When we questioned what the 4 types of olive oil were that were served with the bread the waitress replies “She did not know”. No attempt to go away and find out. Ate in The Green Man 2nd night which we found better choice. Breakfast had no menus and only offered a fried breakfast which was average. No cereal, bread, croissants, jam, marmalade, fruit etc. It was almost as if the bare minimum was being offered. The pièce de resistance came when I queried why the room had not been serviced the second day. I was told they don’t service rooms anymore. The bin in the room had overflowed by this time and we had run out of milk and coffee etc…I asked was this mentioned on their website and was told it was. I have since thoroughly checked the website and can find no mention of this so far from happy about being lied to. The only time I have heard of this was during Covid. Not what it used to be and will not be back. UPDATE Having made a review on the 1st July and the message left by the pub on Trip Advisor as follows:- "The Crown, General Manager at The Crown Inn Restaurant, responded to this review. Responded 5 weeks ago. Good afternoon, Thank you for your review. First of all I would like to apologise for your experience with us. We do not expect these standards from our team. We are taking every step to ensure this will not happen in the future and take onboard your comments and introduce new things to our Pub. We would be grateful if you could call the pub to discuss your stay with us over the weekend and make amends for your experience". We did email the Gen Manager and did get a reply from the tables email saying they would contact us. They did not. I sent another email last week and they have not repsponded to that so can only assume that they no longer have any actual interest in our experience after all despite what was said. Not very good at all.
Meh Nice pub, rubbish food. Overpriced and zero effort put in. Had a Portuguese Chicken Burger with fries, £15.00 The piece of chicken in the burger was embarrassingly small. Shame, as the venue itself is really pretty.
While the pub was a nice looking one, The management/owner of this establishment was not however. A gentleman, I believe to be working in the kitchen, spoke to the female staff in a rude and disrespectful way. I came in the other day and this manager was seen at the bar of the place, appeared to be drunk, he was shouting at the staff, demanding to be served and became rude towards staff and customers.
Would never go here again after witnessing Tim degrading and disrespecting his female staff. Absolutely disgusting. Avoid at all costs
