Opinions de Alma Latina Houston
Enjoyed my first visit, we had the Royce's plate and the tortilla soup. Portions were good, tortilla soup was delicious. Only downside was the mole enchilada and the brochette shrimp were both more salty than I would like.
BEST FAJITAS IN THE LOOP. When I visit the love ordering the chicken and beef fajitas they’re always so tender and heat up well the day after, the tortillas are good, the rice is delicious (I really like the rice and charro beans here). I love brining my friends here for fajitas
I was skeptical about Alma, if I’m being honest. Most Mexican restaurants are a hit or miss. However, I was so impressed and surprised by the quality and taste of the food. My flautas weren’t too oily and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. I left not bloated, when usually I am at other Mexican food establishments. It’s a bit overpriced, but the food is so good that it will definitely be a go-to stop for quality and flavorful Mexican.
The BEST Mexican food in The Heights. It’s authentic tasting, it’s clean and healthy not greasy or oily. We got the barbacoa tacos, the chicken and beef picadillo enchiladas, and the chicken flautas. Every dish we had was so good! The Mexican rice and charro beans were also delicious. This is my new go to Mexican restaurant. If you’re looking for healthy Mexican food that tastes authentic, this is the place.
First and foremost I would like to say that I am extremely picky when it comes to my Mexican food. Alma Latina (Shepherd) location has the best Mexican food I've EVER tasted! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and well cooked. I eat here at least once a week; no other place like this. The drinks are strong and delicious; get your money worth! Alma Latina definitely set the far high for other Mexican Restaurants. Also, last but not least, the service is top tier. Everyone is always very nice and professional :)
This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. We’ve been coming here for years and the staff has always looked after us. They are very attentive, kind, and accommodating. The service is top knotch! As soon as you order your food, it is delivered to your table almost immediately after. Love that! The margaritas are delicious and strong, but just the right amount. My favorite one is the Mangonada Rita with tajin around the rim. Mmmmm! They do a good michelada too. All the food is good here but I like eating their enchiladas con carne and their mole enchilada. Soo good!! You must try their fajita beef. It is juicy and delicious!
Really delicious food with wonderful flavor! This place has a cozy vibe with great seating options inside or on their large patio. The staff is very friendly, which is always appreciated. Their collection of menu items to choose from are all delicious - I especially recommend the stuffed avocado with chicken. It was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were exceptional together. This location is wheelchair accessible, though the entrance to the restroom area is a bit strange.
Came here for dinner to try it out finally! Parking was a bit challenging since there is construction. The place is cute with plenty of seating inside and outside, we were seated quickly and our waiter got our drink order to us fast. The menu is extensive and they have a lot of great options, there is also a full bar. Our orders did not take long to come out, everything was delicious and fresh with good portions. My mom loved it! I love Mexican food but I also love affordable Mexican food, this is a bit on the higher end of Mexican, so a little more expensive for my liking but I would definitely come here for a nice dinner or a birthday.

The best mexican food! The meat for the fajitas is superb. Would definitely eat there again.
This place has the absolute best fajitas I've ever had anywhere on earth. Exceptional service. Fresh ingredients. It has ruined me for every other fajita place.
Solid food! The portions were good for a decent price. Good vibes. Service was excellent
Brunch, lunch and dinner is great here. It feels like a great neighborhood place. Fajitas, enchiladas and margs are great. Waiters a nice and welcoming. They now have valet parking as well.

Alma is such a gem for both breakfast and dinner! It’s a small spot, but the food is consistently delicious and worth the visit. I’m hooked on their barbacoa tacos perfectly tender, not dry, oily, or fatty like some places. They also have a great selection of fresh agua frescas that pair perfectly with any meal. The agua Fresca are ok not sure if fresh. Parking can be tricky because it’s always busy, but they even have a little cart with a driver to pick you up from the lot and take you right to the restaurant, which is such a thoughtful touch. The service is friendly and efficient despite the crowd, and the overall experience keeps me coming back. Highly recommend if you want great Mexican food with a local feel!
For a casual Saturday brunch, we landed at Alma’s on Shepherd. Parking is a challenge with all of the construction. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing. The Ritas are tasty and over priced. We ordered red and green chilaquiles with fajita and barbacoa. The green order was too tangy and the red wasn’t spicy enough for me. The queso flameado wasn’t hot enough either. Service was timely and pleasant. I’d go back but order something different.
Popped in after a workout class near by and it was a good experience. The server was very attentive and the food came out fast. I had the chilaquiles with red sauce and eggs fried hard and beef fajit…

First time impression. The food was hot and came out fast. We ordered 2 dishes and everything looked fine. The service was fast as well, no complaints. The actual food is okay, I would not say it wowed me or stood out. Average dishes on the menu you find elsewhere. Note that there is only 1 stall of men/women's restroom so you will have to be patient and wait.
Alma was just okay for us. We went in December, and unfortunately the hostess came across as rude and a bit passive-aggressive, which made us feel uncomfortable from the start. Our waiter, however, was very nice and attentive, which we appreciated. The food was good overall, but my husband didn’t feel his dish was worth the price. We spent about $70 total, and based on the experience, we wouldn’t be returning.
Service was ok. Our server did look like he was busy though so I don’t blame him. The only problem that we really had was the food taking way too long. Food should not take almost an hour to come out. I understand 30 maybe 40 minutes but almost an hour.To me that is crazy.Another thing my sisters eggs were cold but at that point we were very hungry that we didn’t want to say any thing cause we didn’t want to wait any more
Corn tortillas looked store bought. Food tasted well, rice was a bit overcooked to the point that you could tell where the spoon they used to serve cut some grains in half, taking the shape of the spoon. If you come, it’s best if you are not in a hurry because the service is slow. It took us 47 minutes to get our food. Deck was nice and new but doesn’t allow dogs and is NOT dog friendly. Hostess gave us excuses about not being seated in tables because they were considered “waiting area tables”. Which i suppose is nice if they make you wait. Parking seemed horrible so we took our bikes but it didn’t have a place to park them.

We came in for brunch and my husband ordered the Breakfast Plate. According to the menu, the Breakfast Plate includes a main course, a side of breakfast potatoes, a side of beans, and fresh flour tortillas. The main course options are potato & egg, ham & egg, bacon & egg, chorizo & egg, or huevos a la Mexicana. My husband chose potato & egg. When his plate arrived, it only had the potato & egg, the beans, and tortillas — the side of breakfast potatoes was missing. I asked our server about it and was told that when you choose the ‘Breakfast Plate’ it’s only the main course and beans. At the time I didn’t have the menu in front of me, so I let it go. Later, I pulled up the menu on my phone and showed it to the server, because it clearly states that the Breakfast Plate includes a side of breakfast potatoes regardless of the main course. By the time I was able to show him, my husband was almost done eating due to the long gaps between check-ins (which was also very frustrating) The server first said he would “take care of it on his end” or could box the potatoes to go, but then came back and said the kitchen told him that when you choose the main course ’potato & egg’ it does not come with a side of potatoes. That explanation just doesn’t make sense — it’s like saying if your main dish is a baked potato, you can’t have fries on the side. For a $15 plate, this was disappointing, especially when the menu itself contradicts what we were told. The food itself was good and the restaurant has a nice aesthetic, but the situation could have been handled much better. My husband is a very picky eater and chose this specifically because he likes potatoes and believed he would be getting a side as well, but he didn’t receive what was advertised. It’s unfortunate because I really enjoyed my meal, but the miscommunication and lack of resolution makes me hesitant to return

The sour hostess ruined a celebration lunch for us. Food was very mid. drinks were watered down. After reading some of the other comments, it's apparent that this hostess is a problem.

Horrible service it was my second time eating there, and I will never eat there again. The waiter did not bring water once he realized I needed water. He took off running toward me to give me water the third time I needed water. He pour something in my glass, that was very cloudy did not look like water nor taste like water and every time I complain to him, he just brushed me off like he didn't even care when I told him I was gonna come to Google and give a review He said OK that's that's fine, he didn't give me a bag to take my to go food. I had to ask him for a bag to put my togo food in the food was cold. That's the reason I was taking it to go to get out of there I should have left when I receive the queso with ground beef in it. It was very cold ,The only thing that was hot was the sizzling part of the fajitas the rice was cold. The churro beans was cold. It was just pitiful there and no one cared that was not a manager on site. That will be my last time spending 60 bucks on one person to eat TRASH
I’m a bit disappointed with this place. It doesn’t quite live up to the expectations of authentic Mexican food. I’ve even cooked better than this, and the quality of the food left a lot to be desired. And don’t even get me started on the prices - they’re a bit too high for what you get. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to trying some authentic Mexican cuisine.
