Opinions de Lucky Bento VIP Cuisine Houston
This northeastern China restaurant in Houston Texas looks even more authentic than another one I like very much from Denver Colorado. It’s probably because there are more Chinese customers in Houston. The pork stew 杀猪菜 was a bit over expected. Two pork bones instead of pork belly slices were provided. The soup and pickled cabbage warms up my stomach and stimulates a good appetite. The stir-fried assorted wild mushrooms are terrific. Another dish of fried pancake was also crispy golden. Braised pork tastes sweet with sliced cucumber and green onions and sweet sauce. I wish I can back sometime soon to try other dishes they have.
Don't pass this restaurant up if you're looking for some of the best Chinese food in Texas! Check out all my reviews — with over 35 Chinese restaurants reviewed in the area, I can confidently say this spot has the best overall food. Where to start? Atmosphere: The setting is nice, though it doesn’t feel as upscale as some other places. Service: Fantastic across the board! Our waters were always full, and we never had to worry about running out of rice. Food: This is where Lucky Bento truly shines. Due to a small language barrier, we accidentally ordered four dishes instead of three — which is already a lot for two people — but we had no regrets! Sweet and Sour Chicken: Potentially the best we've ever had. Extra crispy with a honey glaze, perfectly cooked chicken, and some glutinous rice balls (at least that’s what they seemed like) — crunchy, chewy, and absolutely delicious. Spicy Stir-Fried Lamb: The spice was incredibly fresh! I could have eaten this dish all night. Sichuan Crispy Chicken (Peppercorn Chicken): I’ve tried this dish at over 20 restaurants, and while Mala Sichuan (in the same complex) had been my favorite, Lucky Bento might have the new secret to the best version. Perfectly sized, extra-crispy chicken pieces with tender centers — plus ruffled sweet potato fries mixed in! So good. Shanghai Sweet and Sour Ribs: Simply delicious. It's very rare to visit a restaurant and have four dishes that could each be a top-10 contender compared to over 100+ dishes I've tried across 35+ Chinese restaurants. Lucky Bento is an absolute gem!
Very authentic Chinese food with some of the best portions I’ve seen in America! The chef even gifted us a free dish. All the flavors are very different and authentic and I would definitely be coming back a lot!
The food here can make me cry. We ordered four dishes. Every dish is impeccable. Why are northeastern people so good at cooking pork! The sour cabbage has such mild but strong flavor. The kidney and liver were cooked barely well done, very tender. Sweet potatoes can have the sugar pulling one-meter long. I cant wait to come back again.
If you are looking for an authentic cuisine from China’s northeast, look no further than this. The English name is quite misleading but doesn’t hurt its taste from the kitchen. Sweet and sour pork Northeast style, caramelized sweet potato, fat noodle in peanut sauce, man, they do bring back memories of my time in the region as a child. The chef, staff and even most of the patrons are from the northeast region as well, you know that’s legit. They even have BYOB for their patrons. My guess is that the real northeasterners enjoy those very high alcohol proof liquors, or baijiu (烈酒/白酒) and they don’t have it, I think it just adds to the vibe. The restaurant is also running a promo where if you order three dishes, it will serve a surprise dish of the day for free! Highly recommended!
We recently visited Xiao Shen Yang for our weekly team dinner, and it was a fantastic experience! Here's what we tried: Spicy Shredded Bean A simple yet delicious dish, with beans sliced evenly and cooked perfectly. Very appetizing! Crispy Yellow Croaker The fried fish was crispy and tasty, an excellent choice for seafood lovers. Pork and Sauerkraut Stew A unique dish with a flavorful sauerkraut broth, tender pork, and pork blood. Highly recommended for those who enjoy bold flavors. Cucumber and Noodles with Sesame Sauce A refreshing and delightful cold dish, combining crunchy cucumber with rich sesame sauce. Smoked Pork Pancake Layers of crispy pancake paired with savory smoked pork, a must-try! Sweetened Potato Best enjoyed hot, this dessert features crispy caramelized sweet potatoes with a soft interior. A perfect way to end the meal! The service was quick, and the staff was very friendly. Overall, a great place for a delicious and enjoyable meal!
Very good quality and best is the kitchen sizzling flavor. Price is good. In Jusgo Center on Bellaire. We ordered the ginger scallion beef, pepper pork kidneys, and sautéed shrimp & fish. When you ordered three dishes, the house will give a free dish depending on the daily pick of the restaurant. Great value!
Authentic Chinese cuisine (northeast part of China to be more specific), haven’t had that for a while . My personal go-to dishes are 1) sweet & sour pork 2) sweet & sour pork rib 3) shrimp, pork and chive’s dumplings (SO GOOD!) , honestly, just order whatever, they all legit. Value for money too !
We ordered three signature dishes of the region. They were Delicious and authentic. We love especially the GuoBaoRou and the Jianjiaogandoufu. Will visit again soon.
Very good food and service. Could not try many dishes at one time visit, but will come back again definitely. Thank you for the delicious food.
Great North Eastern chinese restaurant. Similar to east-russian cuisine. Food tastes great and has good flavor.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Lucky Bendel VIP, and it was an exceptional experience. This restaurant specializes in classic and authentic northwestern northeastern Chinese cuisine, offering a delightful array of dishes that truly capture the essence of the region. The special famous dishes stood out with their impeccable preparation and authentic flavors. From the sweet-and-sour fried pork to the sour cabbage soup, stir-fried vegetables, and the indulgent north-eastern fat noodles with sesame seed dressing – each dish showcased the culinary expertise and dedication to authenticity. The attention to detail is evident not only in the taste but also in the presentation, mirroring the traditional flavors found in the northeast of China. The menu covers a comprehensive range of dishes, providing a well-rounded experience for anyone seeking genuine Chinese cuisine. The service was both authentic and excellent. The staff's dedication to ensuring a pleasant dining experience was evident, and their knowledge of the menu added to the overall enjoyment. I left Lucky Bendel VIP with a deep appreciation for the cuisine and a plan to bring more friends and family for a revisit. Highly recommended for those who appreciate authentic, flavorful, and well-crafted Chinese dishes.

Authentic Northeastern Chinese Cuisine. Sweet and sour pork is a must try item. Lamb tripe soup 4/5. Beef pastry is highly recommended. The pastry is crunchy, and the amount of filling is just right.
A pretty decent Chinese restaurant specialized in refined northeastern China cuisine. Food quality was okay, and the taste was good, but not great.
Good food at a decent price. We weren't super hungry so twp dishes and a taro cake made for a light dinner for three. The drunken ribs were delicious and the shredded beef was pretty good. I found the taro cake rather unique compared to other places. The crying baby outdoors and very quiet resturant led to a weird ambiance. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying another flavor of ribs and maybe some noodles.

Some dishes are very good, e.g. gan dou fu chao jian jiao, and shuan cai bai rou. The guo bao rou is only average: the sauce is good, but the meat piece is a little thicker than usual. Price and amount are northeastern, if you know what I mean. Overall it is not bad.

I've been to this restaurant many times, and their smoked chicken is quite good. Today when I went, I found they were short one chicken leg. I don't know why. The grilled fish I ordered wasn't fully cooked either. I'm never going to this restaurant again.

Aside from MSG concerns, I've been a loyal customer, but the food quality has dropped significantly. Finding hair in my dish was unacceptable. Service was practically nonexistent—arrived at 2:45 PM with empty tables and waited 20 minutes for water. The lamb soup was excessively greasy, and the beef pancake was sour and stale. I'm done here and won't return.
Rude waitress and rude owner. Price was charged differently from the menu and she didn’t even give receipts until ask. Rice was even charged as one dollar per small box and were actually leftovers. Foods are terrible. Oily and salty. Just save your money and don’t go!!! Update after two years: unfortunately, nothing has improved. I left a negative review about this place two years ago, and the same issue still exists. The lamb rib and radish soup was not fresh and tasted spoiled, just like before. Once again, the owner denied the problem after tasting it himself, and no apology or compensation was offered. It’s disappointing to see that even after two years, food quality and customer concerns are still ignored.

I ordered for take out but the server/owner scolded me away by saying that it was too busy and not taking any online orders. I asked for a refund and the man said that he doesn’t do it and I needed to contact the platform to do it my self. The issue is I cannot contact the platform(chowbus). The interface has no customer support and no number to call. The server/owner’s manner is the worst that I have ever had. What he said is pretty much “No orders from online, you figure it out yourself to get your refund. Chowbus requires the business owner to cancel the order, so I cannot get any progress of this bullshit. As a business, if you are not doing any orders, the least you can do is to stop taking orders. What are you taking orders in the first place when you are not fulfilling them? Not coming back ever. Don’t go to this restaurant unless you are looking for insults!
I came because of the good reputation you had built before, but this visit was truly disappointing. The quality of the food has clearly declined. It felt rushed and careless, lacking the attention and care it once had. I hope you don’t take the trust of your loyal customers for granted.
Not kids friendly, half the room are drunk people drinking hard liquor yelling at each other, the restaurant doesnt care and keeps feeding them drinks. Food is painfully slow to make
