While the restaurant is temporarily closed, their grocery store is open and has many dishes refrigerated and frozen. My friends were lucky and had the food fresh and hot and tasty on the last day of RenFest. The legs (of lamb) were so great, nice and tender with lots of meat. The kielbasa sausage and kraut and mustard were also excellent. Although I would have preferred grainy mustard over standard yellow stuff. Still, it was all ultra tasty. I want to go to the shop and try the bigos and pierogis. The owner and Desi and ALL the staff were wonderful. It made me miss my trip to Tychy long ago and want to return soon with my Polish friend. Dzięki wielkie! Romain
The best advice I could give for Polonia? Check out the extensive menu ahead of time and schedule some time to shop the unique little grocery store. This is exceptionally good Polish food, per Polish friends and our own happy taste buds. Recommend any of the pierogis, (sauerkraut/mushroom are especially delicious), zupa grzybowa (mushroom soup), and whipped potatoes. Outstanding.
A fabulous restaurant with a great menu and helpful staff.vthe attached grocery story is nice and I've got no complaints there. Personally, I had the "Kiszka" or blood sausage with onions. My opinion? If you like liver and onions you'll enjoy this. But you'll be picking barley out of your teeth for the rest of the day.
Wonderful, authentic Polish food. They have a fantastic menu, very friendly Polish staff, and an excellent dining environment. I try to stop here every time that I am in town because I love having a taste of home. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone that loves or wishes to try Polish cuisine!
We loved the food here! It definitely isn't a 'light' menu so come hungry and try as many different things as you can. They give you a lot of good and the service is very friendly. The cabbage rolls, meatloaf and cheese pierogi were at the top of our list, but everything was very good. We'll definitely be back to try more. Best traditional Polish food! At least I think so since I have never been to Poland. But whether this food is 100% authentic or they tamed it for local pallets doesn't concern me, the food was amazing. I have eaten blood sausage in Ireland and sauerkraut in Germany and compared to this Polish variant the other two have a much bolder flavor. I liked that the Polish version here has a more delicate and refined taste, however, my wife likes strong flavored food so she wasn't impressed. This is the only reason why I think it may be altered from its original. But like i said, I don't know, don't care and liked the food! She, however, did grow up eating pierogis and swears these are the best she has ever eaten. Likewise, I grew up in the Benelux and this is the best pickled herring I have eaten. The only dish that we both just thought was OK was the zimne nozki. We both thought it would have had a much stronger flavor than it did. Overall, I really liked the food and the waitstaff was super friendly.
This is one those hidden gems I love finding! Before dining at Polonia's I took a peek at the reviews here, so I already had a good idea of some of the great food served. But, I have to admit, when I first pulled into the parking lot and saw the building I was a little nervous. With plywood nailed up on part of the front, it kind of had that "hole in the wall" vibe going on. As soon as I walked in, however, I immediately felt at ease in my decision to come here. The place is great! If you want a nice truly authentic Polish/Czech experience, this place is a must. Parking was easy. Place was cleanly. Staff was friendly and treated us like part of the family, despite all the questions we had! We came as a group for our monthly food club outing. First time to try out a Polish restaurant for a few of us. We ordered a combination platter as well as some world renowned blood sausage and carpaccio. Everything I tasted across my pallet was nothing short of exquisite. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Houston area.
Atmosphere: Don't let the outside fool you, upon entering, I figured it would be a hole in the wall restaurant but once I stepped inside, the establishment looked stunning. The interior of the building and decor resembled much of the Polish culture. Service: The staff was really attentive to out group and our food didn't take long to arrive to the table. Although it did take some time to receive our refills, they became more attentive soon after and enjoyed that they engaged in conversation with the group. Food: The quality of food was amazing and delectable. The portion size were generous and felt that for the price, it was well worth it. One of the plates we ordered was the combination plate for two, which is shown in the image below. Even with a group of 4, we felt that it was a decent amount of food for us. Would highly recommend this restaurant for Polish food, seeing as one of our group members having experience with authentic Polish cuisine.
We came here recently to try some authentic Polish food. It's hard to notice from the street but if you look for their big red sign and the food mart next door, you'll find Polonia. The ambiance is nice, the tables were set up perfectly and the staff was friendly and helpful. They close early on Sundays so be sure to go for an early dinner. Try the cabbage rolls and the combination plate which includes a little bit of everything.
This such a hidden gem. We have attended the annual Polish Festival across the street and we have shopped at the Polish Food Store next door, but this was our first meal and it was incredible. The staff were so engaging and helpful. I think everyone walked away completely stuffed. My neighbors are from Poland and they tell me this place is authentic as it gets.
We had a really delicious meal and enjoyed the atmosphere. They were nice enough to let my friend and I eat there after we worked out and had our gym clothes on. Pricing was $10.00+ for entrées and $4-8 for appetizer. They had really good priced, soups but we didn't try any while we ate there. Definitely worth a try if you've never eaten polish food and it tasted authentic. Then again I didn't grow up eating polish food but still it tasted unlike any other food I've eaten.
There is something incredibly charming about the 70s look and feel of Polonia. My friend who lived in Warsaw Poland for two years swears by the authentic fare you’ll find here. We started off with the potato pancakes, which were amazing, and shared the combination plate. If you plan to have the combo plate, be prepared for lots of meat and food. This was too much for the two of us, and can easily be shared with 3 or even 4 people. Their pierogi was amazing and what we enjoyed best!
I have to say the outside doesn't does justice of what it looks inside. The place has great national music. It was honestly my first time trying Polish food, and I have to say I like it. Every dish had its unique flavor. My only take away would be the server, who did not come back to the table on a timely manner to refill our water, she was instead talking with her peers.
It was not as good as I thought it would be after reading many reviews. Stale rolls, Borscht Soup was much more sour than anywhere else I have had it. The cabbage rolls were pretty bland and overcooked. Inside is very nice, reminders of the old world. Service was good. There was almost no one in the place.
