Got the pot sticker and chicken tikka tacos, very good, will come again.
I had such an incredible experience and that was because of Aaron who helped me figure out what was the best food options. I loved the atmosphere. Give Aaron a raise!!
Great selection of tacos, nice fast service, nice indoor and outdoor patio seating. I like how they call your name when your order is ready. The guy was even nice enough to repeat it when I asked him to so I could catch it on Snapchat. I came here after leaving the airport when discovering my flight got cancelled so it was a nice way to spend the evening after getting bad news. I loved the two tacos I got and the corn in a cup. They're pricey but it's worth it because you won't find the same type of tacos anywhere else.
When you live in the state of Texas, there will ALWAYS be a place to get tacos. And BBQ. And tex mex! But all are not created equal. Velvet Tacos is definitely a head of the class. Never a misstep going there for tacos. And you’ll have to take my word for it. Paying $6 for a taco was never in my life plan but here I am, dishing up the cash. Thank God two tacos is more than enough because I work in government so ... yea, I cannot afford much more. 😉 Anywho, my favorite is the fish and chips. Crazy how well shoestring French fries fits on a taco with breaded cod fish. Who knew?!?! And if you don’t work for the City and have more disposable cash than I do, spring for the red velvet cake. It’s worth the calories.
So while visiting a local distillery, a friend I ran into recommended we check out Velvet Taco. We decided to hop over there and were pleasantly surprised. I got the chicken and waffles taco and it was nothing short of amazing. My wife got the rotisserie chicken taco and she enjoyed that as well. The queso and chips were worth getting as well, but do have a little bit of heat to the queso. (For the record, I don't handle the heat well typically) I also decided to get the red velvet cake for dessert and boy was that worth it - moist cake and crazy good cream cheese icing. I am looking forward to eating here again!
This place is hands-down one of my favorite taco joints in the country. These aren't your standard tacos. The owners take creative license with popular foods like buffalo chicken and tikka masala and transform them into irresistible, handheld pockets of joy. They also have some unbelievable tater tots smothered in cheese, bacon, a tantalizing crema and topped with a fried egg. I've got a big appetite and three tacos were enough for me. Wash it down with a really strong frozen margarita. Good for lunch. Good for drunk food.
Velvet Taco is my happy place. I love the variety of tacos they have. Some of my favorites are the chicken and waffle taco, the fish and chips taco, the Mexicali shrimp taco, and the Tikka taco. On the back patio there is sometimes a tortoiseshell cat that visits from the neighborhood. The tacos are made very well and come out quickly. They have a good selection of drinks and sodas. There is always plenty of seating even when it's busy. I've also never had trouble finding a parking spot.
Ordered the shrimp & grits, fish & chips, and chicken & waffles. The fish & chips curry flavor with the malted fries had a very unique flavor that complimented each other well. S&G was a very straight forward taco that was done well. Grits was very yummy on the corn tortilla. My personal favorite was the chicken and waffle taco, which wasn’t too sweet. I advise eating it first without hot sauce as it might overtake the subtle flavors of the taco. Don’t forget to try their velvet cake, which my kids love. Place is always clean and has a very upbeat atmosphere. Staff is always helpful and attentive to your questions. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.
Delicious tacos. I ordered the buffalo chicken and the Tikka chicken tacos. Plus I got a few side of chips and queso for signing up with my email address. They both tasted great with enough heat. I love the cute little taco package they came in. Held everything up so the was no spillage or mixing of flavors. Dog friendly patio.
Venturing into Velvet Taco, we discovered a refreshing, one-of-a-kind boutique taco joint that, despite being part of a chain, exuded an air of exclusivity and individuality. A culinary adventure awaited us, with each dish offering a unique spin on the classic taco. Our taste buds were transported with every bite of the #7 Cuban Pig taco. The fusion of mustard, pickles, and a tangy, vinegary essence created an unexpectedly delightful experience that left us craving more of this innovative creation. The #8.5 Chipotle BBQ Pork taco truly stole the show, with tender shredded pork bathed in a mouthwatering blend of BBQ and Mexican flavors. This exquisite concoction had us raving about our newfound favorite. Coming in a close second was the #11.5 Chimichurri Steak taco, featuring succulent steak married with a vibrant sauce and perfectly balanced spices. This dish was a testament to the culinary prowess of Velvet Taco. The Elote & Chips served as the ideal companion to our taco feast. This creamy corn-based salsa paired with crisp, dark corn chips was a symphony of flavors that harmoniously enhanced our dining experience. Although one might expect to pay a premium for such uniquely crafted tacos, the portions were both satisfying and substantial, making the experience well worth the investment. Finally, we were thoroughly impressed by the swift service and the efficiency with which our order was prepared, adding to the overall allure of Velvet Taco. To sum it up, Velvet Taco is a delightful haven for food enthusiasts seeking novel and palate-pleasing experiences. If you find yourself yearning for an extraordinary taco adventure, this is the place to be. Prepare to be dazzled by their inventive creations, and rest assured that your taste buds will thank you.
Came into Houston for some ink at Prison Break Tattoo and we of course needed to feed. Found this place about 3-4 blocks from our condo and studio and have to say we're glad we did. I had both the Angus brisket(3pcs) and flank steak(2pcs) tacos and they didn't disappoint. I believe my buddy had the pork variants and he was quite satisfied with them as well. I'm not a foodie, I just eat for macros but suffice it to say these were both delicious and filling. The service and atmosphere were both great as my buddy and I sat there for the better part of two hours, eating and just relaxing. I would definitely recommend.
Do yourself a favor, and give it a try. We ended up here because the wait at another place was ridiculous. This place should have been our first choice! Staff was very helpful and friendly! My only gripe would be the tables weren't very clean, but it didn't take away from our amazing experience!
Best Ever Tacos in Town !!!! They are fresh, juicy, tasty and flavourful. The weekly tacos are special, also the regular ones. Chicken Tikka, Buffalo chicken, Grilled paneer, Tofu, Mexicali shrimp 🦐, potato tots, tortilla chips with queso, red velvet cake and cream soda👌. All these are favorites. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Spacious arrangement, friendly staff.
Velvet Taco is always on point. The food is great and is always served hot and quickly. Today I had the Cuban Pig and Flank Steak Tacos, always a great choice. This is a great place for lunch or dinner. They do not serve breakfast during the week. I just had lunch here again and they now have Coke and Diet Coke. They are now a official the best Taco place in Houston
I’ve love Velvet Taco, starting back in 2014 in Fort Worth. This location is no different, still a great atmosphere with fantastic food. So many options chicken, fish, vegetarian, pork, and beef. Phenomenal drink selection, with some local beer, soft drinks, TOPA Chico, Mexican Coke, white claw, bottled water, and some standard beers. It was a little disappointed I didn’t see the back door chicken looks like it was painted over. I’m not sure if this location still offers that or not. If they do you should definitely try it. Slow roasted rotisserie chicken with corn tortillas, roasted corn and a Elote corn. Also comes with a side of hot sauce and Valentina. Oh and it’s only $20 and you can pick it up to go only. I did see a sign that refers to parking so be careful where you park so your car doesn’t get towed. Very nice of the restaurant to inform their guest about parking not a lot of places would do that. Overall it was a great experience. So many unique flavors in their tacos you can’t go wrong with what you pick. It will definitely be returning to velvet taco! My favorite taco place.
Velvet Taco has a reputation for delicious tacos which this location lived up to. Service was friendly and quick, and the environment was generally welcoming. I enjoyed the flavorful slow roasted brisket taco with some crunchy chips and creamy queso. It's great that margaritas were also available.
Sure it's not a cheap taco, but it's really good with exotic ingredients. They have homemade margaritas and quite a nice selections of draft beers on tap. Half of them seemed to be local craft brews. plenty of comfortable seating and high top tables if that's what you're into. Pretty darn fast service too.
Me and my wife did the combo and I had the mexi cali shrimp and slow roasted angus brisket tacos. And she got the birria tacos. They were so so fresh. They came out pretty quickly too. But they were absolutely beautifully presented. The little diner theme was so cute and it smelt so good inside.
There's truly no greater late night food than tacos when u had too much to drink. tacos are quite large nd stuffed with both veggies nd meat from falafel to spicy chicken nd pulled pork. Feel like few tacos have indian fusion especially buffalo chicken that has coconut oil infused nd does taste like a south indian dish. Must try caramel drizzled red velvet cake.
AAAAAAAmazing, they have a fresh yummy spin on tacos, spicy tikka chicken and slow roasted angus brisket tacos were to die for! I love the different tea, bottled soda and beeer variety! The ambience is quirky and cute, it also has a patio w fans and shade. We will most definitely be back!!
Really enjoyed our first visit here! We had Picnic, Flank Steak, Chicken and Waffles, and Fish and Chips tacos, red velvet cake, and elotes in a cup. Everything was very tasty. The different flavors of tacos are appealing and it's clear a lot of care goes into making each taco. It's a fun and pleasant environment with friendly counter staff, too. Well worth a visit.
This place is awesome. I had never heard of this place prior to last Saturday. They have the best tacos ever. The atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff is also on point. Best thing to get there is the chicken tikka taco. Being from that background, it didn’t disappoint at all. This should be THE place to go at least once a week for everyone.
Food is excellent but I miss the cubano. It's not only the new menu. It was my favorite. Smash burger s always good
I love breakfast tacos. No matter what time of day, I can eat one. The brisket and pulled pork were delicious. Who would thing of using an egg as a taco? This place would and I admire there experimentation with flavors. They have a nice blend of cultures in there food. It's also down the road from some local bars so have some drinks and top off the night with tacos.
This place is AWESOME!! The AHI TUNA is yummy, healthy and the leatuce is crisp. Plus it has more ahi tuna then you get in a normal taco. My second favorite is the buffalo chicken and its worth a try. The Angus steak taco has an abundance of flavor and different tastes. Overall better than torchys and a great houston place.
This place is really good! These aren't ordinary street tacos. This place serves premium tacos using food from different cultures and didn't disappoint. My favorite is the chicken and waffle, sweet and savory . If you have a sweet tooth get the red velvet cake and ask them to add dulce de leche on top. 🤤😋
Velvet taco is one of the amazing taco places in Houston for vegetarians. Fried panner is their top notch taco I ever tried. Super crispy exterior and spongy soft interior with delicious sauces and chutneys topped. It’s the best. Not to forget all my time favy elote corn. Topped with cheese, queso and hot sauce. A must try place !
Velvet + Taco, two words I love so of course together they work right? YES!! I live in Cypress and would happily make this drive when craving these delectable tacos. It's the perfect fusion of taco staples we love with an elevated take on flavors, for example, the Angus Beef Cheeseburger taco w/all the trimmings. The portions are huge and I dare you not to be BEYOND full after 2! They also serve pure can sugar drinks and lemonade plus house margaritas. Great for lunch, a grab-n-go, date night, or something to go with your adult beverages. 👍🏾
My favorite velvet taco. The food is on point and the service is soooo friendly. I want to give a special shoutout to Stephanie who always greets us so warmly and really goes above and beyond to make sure we are well taken care of. Because of her I will keep coming back !! Thanks Stephanie ❤️🙏🏼
Always great food and staff at this location are amazing. Pedro is always very friendly and helpful as well as Aaron. My go-to spot in the Washington ave area
Velvet Taco on Washington has always been fantastic. We recently moved to a city without Velvet and it’s been rough without it. The first thing we did after getting off the plane was go straight to this Velvet. The vibes from the employees and food are always great!
You already know, over all consistent good gourmet tacos. Some of the best cheese queso in the game. I didn’t try the margarita at this location, but usually one is usually enough to get the night started.
I ate here late one night with a few people I had just met about a week ago and the food I ordered was soo yummy. I wanted to try the elote but I can recommend the slow roasted brisket taco after trying it! Mr manager A-A Ron was super chill and I really enjoyed his service. He was funny and patient. The whole store was a nice vibe to wind down in after the club. Thank you to Aaron and the staff working that night, everything was great!! Definitely visiting again
Aaron is awesome! Excellent customer service and very friendly. I’ll come back here every time just because of him. He was patient even during the night rush. It’s good to know there are still people in this world who love their job. Thanks again, Aaron!
Houston is full of great taco places, but Velvet Taco is a stand out. I love this place so much, I go at least once per week. I wish they had more locations.
I haven’t been to Velvet Taco in a couple of years, the restaurant is a little different now. Thank you to Pedro who was so kind and helpful in guiding me through the ordering process. He was very knowledgeable and very pleasant. I think it’s safe to say that we wish there were more Pedro’s out there. Cheers, be back soon!
This place has some good variety on specialty tacos. My favorite is the spicy chicken tiki taco. These tacos are pricey though. Over 5 dollars a taco for the premium ones but is a little less for the others. I have never had a problem with this location it is nice to eat on the little patios. Parking is somewhat limited as is most places in this area.
I was searching Google for good reviews as I'm visiting Houston and wanted to try something I'd never had. I saw good things about this place so I decided to give it a try. I got brisket nachos and the chicken and waffle taco. 10 out of 10. I also tried the red velvet cake since velvet is in the name of the restaurant. It felt really heavy, but was extremely moist, and the taste was really good. I will definitely go back and try different tacos, because as was posted in the restaurant. They have a new taco every Wednesday. 😋
One of the local taco spots I like best! Everything I've tasted so far has been fantastic, and I love the range of interesting and entertaining flavors. The crisp, fresh chips combine perfectly with the delicious white queso. Over the course of several excursions, I sampled the Flank Steak tacos, Shrimp & Grits, the new Mexicali Shrimp Taco, and the Chicken & Waffles taco. They were all wonderful!
The atmosphere at Velvet Taco in Houston was definitely odd but lovely. It seemed half of one vibe and half of another, but the food was SOOOO good! It was very different than the authentic Mexican food I am used to, but a good different! Not Tex-Mex at all, in my opinion. It was like a chef level creative spin on Mexican food and I absolutely loved it. Highly recommended stopping by one. They have many different locations in different towns as well.
Fantastic food! So much variety for all being tacos. Different types of cuisine. There was a large piece remaining tomato from the blender in the queso. We took it back and asked for a top off of the queso from after removing it, and they provided us with a whole second cup after apologizing. Awesome service. I will for sure be back and will be bringing friends.

Such nice employees, and great margarita! The queso had fire coming from my mouth but was delicious!
I came here looking for a replacement for Berryhill's fish taco and it was delicious. This is my new taco place. It was quick, easy and the food was excellent.

Solid, well made. Full service tacos. Flavors are great. Change menu often core menu stays.. Great spacing for seating . Inside and outside
They had great service, but it’s definitely not your usual taco place. It’s very hip and they have some pretty different taco selections, but they are pretty good. I wasn’t too head over heels over the #11 since the steak was too pink, but the brisket taco, which I believe is #3 was delicious! The corn is great, just a tad bit over priced. Wouldn’t recommend to someone who doesn’t like to try new things though. Tacos range from $3.95 to ~$5 each.
It was a good place giving mexican vibes. Tried their vegetarian/vegan tacos. 1. Falafel taco: falafel was soft and crispy and comes in lettuce covering. - Amazing 2. Beer barted cauliflower: it was also really good. 3. Nashville tofu taco: I didn't try myself but as per my friend it was really good too. 4. Fried paneer taco: it was amazing. 5. Queso blanco: their nachos were fresh and comes it cheesy dip.which was really good.
Pretty good tacos, not great, probably prefer Torchy's, in this kind of taco category. Tons of variety though and good, creative vegetarian options. Rotisserie chicken had good flavor. Margaritas are good with good kick. Red velvet cake with caramel drizzle is good, like all cake is, but nothing spectacular. Elote was probably the best thing. Not much bang for the buck as each taco is above $3.50 and are not large. If in the area and hungry might stop in again, but not going out of my way to return and will probably give something else a shot.
Tacos were different, but good! I order the shrimp & grits and the Mexicali shrimp tacos and the brisket nachos. Is little expensive so be prepared to spend about $10 or more for 2 Tacos $6 for a small brisket nachos. I don’t care for mayo or mustard so I asked to not put it in the taco most of the sauces they put in the taco is mix with either this 2 condiments. Corn tortilla was under cooked flour tortilla was good.
Trendy Tacos ... Think Torchy's Tacos or Pacific Coast .. fusionish and hip, not your traditional tacos. Lots of interesting kinda combinations you'd never find in a Taqueria. I had the Fish and chips. Not very chippy though. The fillet was crisp and well done. The girl child had the grilled flank steak ... Both were on flour tortillas, not asked if we wanted corn. So that may not be an option. But the tortillas looked site made and not from a bag. She like her taco and I liked mine . I didn't get to try any of hers, she devoured it pretty quick. We shared an order of the tots. She, commented that she liked the tots which is something she doesn't usually like. All our selections were good and a nifty change from the traditional taco stand. Most of the originality is in their sauces not the protein or other fillings. Couple of drawbacks.. Kinda small compared to others in this genre. Like 4" tortillas kinda sized. They do use these odd fork spoon combo things. Not that you totally need a fork or spoon when eating a taco, but the tots we had needed something better considering the toppings and such, Only really had Valentina hot sauce and their own red sauce. Their red one tased kinda like a mix between Valentina and taco bell sauce. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Tacos came out on a stand kinda thing with both our tacos on it... We had to ask for a couple of paper baskets to separate our orders. Looked like others in the restaurant had trays. Not sure why we didn't get something like that.
Went around 11pm on Thursday night. Nice crowd and fast service with happy employees. The menu while it seems simple is confusing. Some items have the type of meat in the title and the listing of ingredients and then some dont making it confusing what is included in the tacos. There is one ahi poke taco that is wrapped in lettuce, but was very unclear if there was any tuna in it or just veggies and should been on the veg menu board. I was looking for chips and salsa and no where to be found on the menu, but then I heard then call out a name and chips and queso was ready. Very confusing what they really offer for a 1st timer. Would be nice to know if I could have gotten everything wrapped in lettuce instead of tortillas as well for a low carb option.
This Velvet Taco location in my favorite because it's got soul. Maria in the kitchen makes the BEST food. Stephany the cashier is not just great at her job but, she's also a beautiful person with an amazing memory. Love just her.
Friendly staff and great atmosphere. The porch out back is really nice. The food was pretty good but honestly not the best tacos I've ever had. I did like the queso and the cake. I had the brunch tacos and I really liked how they lined the whole thing with the egg so you don't have scrambled egg falling out of it while you're trying to eat.
Velvet is my go to for late night food that actually tastes good and doesn’t make you feel awful the next day. I’m giving 4 stars only because it’s not always perfectly kept up and you’re obviously not getting wagyu steak LOL, but if you’re craving delicious, gourmet style tacos, Velvet Taco is absolutely the place to go.
This place once had the most chill vibe on Washington. Now it seems a little subdued. The place should have been packed, and it might have been the rain, but there were two other people there, that's it. The huge megalithic gas and smoke station, with their lighting that's visible to Mars, next door kind of kills the mood. Like when you turn the lights on to see the person you brought home from the bar.
Although they have several locations, I tried the one on Washington. First off the customer service over the phone for a call in order was GREAT!!!!!!! The young lady (didn't get her name) was very friendly & professional. Since it was my 1st time eating at their establishment I don't like corn nor onions & she was nice enough to leave them out with no gripe at all. Let me start by saying the presentation was executed extremely well. You can tell these were freshly ordered NOT just sitting up pre-made. I must say their Fish & Chips was my favorite. The Mexi-Cali shrimp without the avocado corn pico was a tight 2nd place. The Buffalo chicken taco was just "ok" for me. Their slow-roasted Angus brisket taco was NOT for me, I took a half a bite & was like this does NOT sit well with my tastebuds. But, someone might like it, try it for yourself. Oh they have a red sauce that has a slight kick to it which was very tasty. I think yall should keep them on your list to check out if you want tacos & they have a variety, SEVERAL to select from.....

Love the fusion tacos. 2 won't be enough, 3 you will need peptobismol. Like the atmosphere, although the draft beer is a bit to pricey. The food price/quality is just right.

Went for lunch with a friend. I had the blackened shrimp tacos with queso and a drink. I believe it was the lunch special. Food was okay just wished there were more shrimp. I had two shrimp on each taco. More avocado and sprouts than shrimp. "Might" try again. Definitely two shrimps on this tortilla. Check my pics for reference
They stopped subbing shrimp for cauliflower and that was my favorite thing to get as a vegetarian :( it makes no sense to me why you can sub shrimp for paneer and not for cauliflower. I’m truly so sad :(
I love how this place opens so late! This is my second time getting velvet taco however the first one at this location. Chili shrimp was probably the best taco that we got, the rotisserie chicken was not good as it was very mushy and finally the Korean fried rice taco was all right. I’d come back and try their other tacos.

What people say about Velvet Taco
Beyond Basic: Velvet Taco's Wild Side in Houston
Alright, fellow Houston food lovers, let’s talk tacos. You know our city is brimming with incredible taco spots, from the corner taquerias to the high-end fusion joints. But there’s one place that consistently pops up in conversations, especially when you’re craving something truly different, or perhaps a satisfying late-night bite that won't leave you regretting your choices come morning: Velvet Taco.I hear it all the time – people practically make a weekly pilgrimage here, and honestly, I g...
Velvet Taco: Where Fusion Flavors Meet Standout Service in H-Town
Alright, Houston, let's talk tacos.
