Opinions de Wanna Bao Houston
The food is awesome! The soup dumplings are so thin, tender and flavorful… right up there with One Dragon, but Wanna Bao has lots more seating. The green beans are delicious and the scallion pancakes are so crispy.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. The restaurant is spacious, yet it feels cozy and intimate. The crunchy bottom bao are so good I didn’t even remember to take a photo before we devoured them. The spicy crispy popcorn chicken is so flavorful and I’m obsessed with it. Also, I like that you don’t have to worry about parking since they have plenty of space right outside. Definitely will be coming back for a third and fourth time.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston! I crave it regularly. The scallion pancakes, fried green beans, and dancing beef are my favorite dishes. My friends who like bao really enjoy theirs. The dessert Nutella bao is very tasty as well.
This place was incredible! The cumin lamb was very flavorful and extremely aromatic. The crispy bottom pork bao was exactly as described, perfectly crisp and tasty. The chicken soup dumplings were some of the best I’ve had and their steamed chicken dumplings might be even better. I really loved the decorations and overall vibe. I’ll be back. I also got an 8% discount for paying in cash, def a plus
I found this place through a TikTok video, and honestly, I loved the food. They serve Chinese cuisine — their specialty is dumplings, but they also have other dishes. We ordered two orders of chicken filling soup dumplings and one order of spicy crispy chicken popcorn. Honestly, everything was delicious, and the service was excellent. I give it a solid 10 out of 10.
Soup dumplings were spot on! The General Tso's Chicken was surprising. It was sweet but not over powering and the bit of spiciness to it was not overbearing. Would 100% eat here again. Parking was no issue. We showed up around 7pm on a Friday and had zero issues parking in a truck in their parking lot which is not the case with most of montrose.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The outside, at first glance, looked like an old house or mechanic's garage. BUT, the inside is beautifully and elegantly designed. The staff are very nice the minute you walk in until you leave. The food was delectable! I had to get some help from the waiter, but she made some great recommendations. The food was PACKED with flavor, and every dish was better than the next. Do yourself a favor and give this place a shot. Yo won't regret it.
visiting Wanna Bao? Good food and a chill space! My family and I went in a rainy day which proved to be the best time to try out Wanna Bao. It wasn’t too packed, or too loud and parking was easy despite what the other reviews said. For the food: Spicy popcorn chicken: 10/10. Beware it IS spicy. Red oil dumplings: 7/10 the oil was on point! Shanghai Chili Lettuce Wrap: 8/10 This dish was solid! Shredded Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce: 6/10 flavor was there, not spicy and a safe choice. Shrimp dumplings: 8/10 I enjoyed the outer crispy underneath consistency. Nutella Dumpling dessert: 8/10 different and tasty. Over all, Wanna Bao did not disappoint!
Only really good thing here is the soup dumpling, good for lunch and if you're a light eater. Otherwise expect roughly $40 to be full. The fried Bao was whatever. Tropical rice was weird but sort of worked. Dancing pork belly was just pork belly with good flavor. Green beans and beef was good but lack beef. Service is ok.
the crispy bottom bao is the best dish i tried!! everything was amazing though, would def get the chicken soup dumplings, red oil dumplings, green beans and eggplant for the side! the flavor is amazing, though my next visit, i’d ask for less sodium/salt. the dishes were too salty, especially the green beans! otherwise, the dumplings were perfectly juicy and the wrapper is nice and thin. so yummy! my only real complaint is probably the service. my server was so sweet but the hosts and other employees were rude and loud. The way they treat employees is very careless and when they’re not working, they shout a lot which disturbs the ambiance.
We loved Wanna Bao! ♥️ We were excited about bao and dumplings so close to home! This place did not disappoint! We had a handful of different dumplings and an order of fried rice! All of the dumplings were delicious along with being well cooked & seasoned. (Check out the pics for the specific dumplings) Their Tropical Fried Rice is so good! It has to be one of the most unique orders of fried rice we’ve ever had. What set it apart from others were the ingredients, including but not limited to, cashews, pineapple, and grilled corn. Even our daughter loved it! Additionally, our service was wonderful with multiple servers assisting without being asked! Everyone we spoke with, including the hostess, was extremely nice and friendly! WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK! Thank you, Wanna Bao
Lunch appointment here for my first visit and was not disappointed. From the outside I was not impressed but inside was clean and welcoming. I was with an experienced visitor so I let them choose from the menu. The food arrived quickly and was hot and flavorful. The waiter helped explain some of the dishes in detail and advised regarding spice levels. I will definitely be back!
Overall, the experience was pleasant. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, showing good attention to quality. Though there’s room for small improvements, everything came together nicely, making it an enjoyable visit.
Was in the area and was finally able to try out Wanna Bao. Glad we stopped in to check out this wonderful place. Service was great, helpful, and prompt. As we were first timers, asked questions and our server made great suggestions. While the red oil dumpling was a miss for me while hot. Once I got home, the flavors really came to life after sitting and cooling off. Reabsorbing all those wonderful flavors. The chicken dumplings were also delicious. It was just a great balance of flavor and quantity. But the star was definitely the Dancing Beef. Delicious flavor and with the perfect heat, you can't go wrong here. Can't wait to return and try more dishes. We will definitely be back. How was your visit? Which are your favorites? Until next time.
The venue was actually pretty nice with a nice and orderly ambiance in business casual dress all around. I really enjoyed the food , but my overall opinion is that the food was good but not worth the price. Panfried pork shrimp dumpling: 10/10 very good , wish I had more. I think I would try pork next time Crying tiger beef: 8/10: beef cut thinly but very saucy with the rice crackers underneath Water spinach : 9/10 classic stir fry vegetables, pretty good and fresh Mapo tofu : actually one of the best Mapo tofu with a hint of spice, nicely fresh tasting tofu, and a simplistic feel 10/10
WannaBao in Houston is a fantastic spot for Chinese fusion food! 🍜 They have some of the best dumplings in the city 🥟—definitely the highlight of the menu. The atmosphere is really nice, though it can get a bit crowded, so be prepared for that. The best way to enjoy this place is by sharing dishes 🍽️. We tried the green rice, which is an excellent choice if you're dining with kids 👶. Next, we had the tofu—I'm not usually a fan, but as I mentioned, sharing lets you explore different flavors. The eggplant wasn't my favorite, but it's worth a try if you're adventurous. Without a doubt, the dumplings and the rice are the stars of the show 🌟. They also have a parking lot, which makes it convenient 🚗. If you're in Houston and craving some delicious fusion cuisine, WannaBao is definitely worth a visit!
Been here several times, and often recommend this place to people. Today the service was equal to that of McDonald's sever dropped food off and never returned plates stacked up on table and became difficult to navigate the table . They were busy , but not that busy. Our table felt forgotten. We had to ask the host for our check. We were sitting directly in front of the host stand and still ignored for most of our meal. Pl ase do better next time.
Not the best. Everything was a little too bland. There was no spice. Service was quick and the servers were nice. The food came out quickly and I liked that the menu tells you how long each dish takes to come out. Overall felt a little overpriced for very tiny dumplings. My favorite was the crispy bottom pork bun. It had the more flavor and the bottom was nice and crispy.
I don't know where to start. The waiters sitting and staring at their phone, the hostess who couldn't be more bothered that we interrupted her scrolling, or the food that made me go home to drink detox tea? We were hoping for a hit, but underwhelming would be an understatement. The vibe was dull. The food quality was poor. We barely ate. We both took one bite of the dumplings and were very turned off. While the waiters were friendly enough, their boredom really set the tone. Please listen to the critical reviews sprinkled in here... take your money elsewhere for a quality experience. This eatery presents itself as worthy, but it's not it.
