Opinions de The Serving Spoon Inglewood
Whenever I’m in LA I have to eat at The serving Spoon! Being a Chef myself I’m very very picky and I don’t eat anyone else’s cooking if I don’t have to but Here I’m never disappointed! Customer service is always good! It’s always packed and a wait but it’s never a long crazy wait! Food always good and em Turkey Chops be hitting! I love that it’s Family owned and I love to see all the young people working and earning their way ☺️ I’m in the mist of relocating to the area so I’ll be back even more now and I’m definitely looking forward to it! Keep up the great work
I was having a bad day at work, so I decided to just go to a diner to blow off some steam. When I walked into The Serving Spoon I was greeted with such positive vibes and good hospitality. The waitress was also very patient & helpful when I was undecided on what to eat. I don’t know her name but her smile lifted up my spirit. The chili on top of everything omelette she recommended was so delicious. Overall my whole experience was very enjoyable.
Great place for really good food and great service. Enjoyed breakfast of catfish, grits, eggs and a biscuit.
The fried chicken and catfish were perfection. The grits were so buttery and smooth. The cornbread was eaten so fast I barely remember how good it was! Going back on a weekend to get the fried shrimp. Well deserved James Beard Award. Very friendly service and good vibe.
If you are looking for a Place with REAL HOSPITALITY, baby this is the place to be. It has been a long time since I received such a warm welcome from EVERYONE that works in the restaurant. Staff was extremely friendly, helpful and happy. The food was TOP TIER, Fresh, taste really GOOD, and HOT. The restaurant was clean, the music was Phenomenal and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Thank you so much to everyone at the Serving Spoon. I pray your restaurant and staff are recognized and blessed exceedingly more than you all could ever think or imagine it would be. Stay Blessed, I will be back!!
The day began with a journey from Downtown Los Angeles to Inglewood for breakfast at the legendary Serving Spoon. Getting there as a wheelchsir user on public transit was part of the adventure itself: about an hour on the Metro E Line, followed by a transfer to the Metro 212 bus, and then a 25-minute roll to the restaurant. When I finally arrived, the place was packed and buzzing with energy—loud, lively, and about 98% Black, which immediately felt like home. Navigating through the crowd took a bit of maneuvering, but the restaurant itself was wheelchair accessible and the staff were patient and accommodating. The Serving Spoon met all of my expectations—and then some. The menu was incredibly inviting, and I went with the eggs, grits, and a side of greens. Everything was outstanding. The eggs were fluffy and golden, the grits were absolutely banging—no seasoning needed, though I happily added black pepper—and the greens were rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The service matched the food: warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Even with the tight space during peak hours, I never felt rushed or overlooked. Despite the long trek from Downtown LA using the Metro E Line and the 212 bus, this is a place I have to return to at least once more before I leave. I absolutely enjoyed the food, staff and the ambience of The Serving Spoon.
I had family in town, so we stop in for brunch. It was a group of three, so we were able to be seated fast. The hostess had a wonderful disposition as she greeted each of the guests. She informed us that the weight was thirty minutes and handed each of us with a menu. The menu is also QR coded. Server took our orders promptly after we were seated. After our was taken, she read it back to ensure all of the orders were correct. I order the salmon croquettes with black eye peas and green. My niece had all sides, greens, black eye peas, yams and rice and beans. My sister had fried chicken with greens and yams. We all were pleased with our meal and the service we received. The restaurant has counter seating as well as booth seating. Parking is limited.
Wow I loved this place. The food was incredible, great menu too. Friend got shrimp and grits which were excellent, I got the big spoon breakfast. They don’t skimp on the protein here either which is a standard diner complaint of mine. Great quality bacon, and a unique waffle here. Denser than you’d expect with a little cinnamon in the batter. Really great, like if someone made you waffle house from scratch with better ingredients. Solid value, good service, makes me want to get over to Inglewood more.
Hands down, this place is amazing. Great customer service, and even better tasting food. Mom & pop atmosphere where celebs frequent. I can't tell you how many really famous people I've had conversations with over the years. Met Josh 11 years ago, tall bright brother who put me on to the best meals, still cool as a fan till today. Oh, and all the waitresses are cute & friendly as well. If you aren't sure what you want, just ask and they'll recommend something delicious. They got fire kool-aid too! I really love this restaurant. Wish I had pictures, we finished everything before I could take them.
They consistently deliver generous portions, fast-paced service, and a family-style atmosphere that keeps locals coming back for decades. Their menu highlights soul food favorites like fried chicken, waffles, and hearty breakfast plates, executed with consistency and care. The energy inside the restaurant reflects a true community hub, where guests feel welcomed and valued every visit.
I live in a different county, but I’ve been hearing great things about this spot for a while and finally had the chance to try it out while celebrating a friend’s birthday in the area. I’m really glad we stopped in! First, a heads-up: the parking situation is rough. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall with very limited parking, and the nearby residential streets were pretty packed too. It was raining when we arrived, so I ended up parking farther away than I would’ve liked — not necessarily the restaurant’s fault, but definitely something future customers should know. Once inside, the experience got much better. The hostess was amazing — super sweet, personable, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Overall service was a solid 4 out of 5. The only downside was the longer wait time for food, but it was worth it once our meals arrived. I ordered the red snapper with mac and grits, and it was absolutely delicious. My friend got the chicken and waffles with eggs and cheese, and her plate was just as good. We also tried the Sunset drink, and let me tell you — it’s to die for. If I’m ever back in the area, I would definitely come again. Highly recommend giving this place a try!
I ordered a dish I wouldn't usually order! It was sooooooooooo good. Catfish with scrambled eggs, cheese, & onions, with southern potatoes & a biscuit. The catfish was so fresh, flake /crispy, & a good flavor. NOT FISHY!!! Yummy. My Best friend had the same but she had grits & toast & loved it. The Service was amazing. STAFF "ALL" We encountered were so pleasantly sweet. I would go there again. This place was packed. So you know the food is good!
I caught them about 45 mins before closing, I was seated immediately. They have low counter seating as well as tables/booths. This place gives grandma / auntie’s cooking. It’s classic, vintage, old school. I tried the chicken wings, collard greens , and yams. The dinner meals come with cornbread. My chicken and yams were great. Collards were good but I felt could have had a tad more seasoning/flavor. I had a muddy water , on the east coast we call them an “uptown” which is a 1/2 iced tea & 1/2 lemonade. It was delicious. My cornbread was good also, I spread the butter and the honey that came with it. I’d definitely return when I’m in the area and recommend to anyone looking for a casual vibe and yummy food . The owner was also very nice, she walked through the restaurant smiling and checking on customers at the tables. Service was good! Thank you
Made a quick stop at this gem on our way to a tour of SoFi Asked the waiter if he could rush our breakfast because we were running late. I got chicken wings, French toast, a biscuit and grits. My wife and daughter shared a Big Spoon with bacon eggs and pancakes. Everything came out super fast and the food was delicious. Fried chicken was crispy and cooked perfectly and the French toast and grits were really good. I wish I could get something close to this back in new york Id totally come back here again!
Amazing breakfast spot near my house. Been going for years and the food is consistently delicious. The place gets super packed and when they have only one server the service really suffers. The waffle and potatoes are one of a kind. It’s a five out of five for consistency through the years.
I stumbled across the place looking for breakfast spots close to my hotel. I was not disappointed. The food was bussing. That fried snapper was AMAZING! I see why there was a wait outside. Our waitress was cool, everyone in there had smiles on their faces. Definitely will be coming back
We arrived at the restaurant just five minutes before closing after driving over two hours and getting stuck in traffic. Despite the late hour, the owner welcomed us in with warmth and zero hesitation. The entire team from the servers to the cooks, was incredibly kind and accommodating. They treated us like valued guests, not an inconvenience, and made sure our experience was nothing short of phenomenal. The food was absolutely amazing, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I truly appreciate their hospitality and commitment to great service, even at the end of a long day. This kind of service is rare, and it left a lasting impression. I’m definitely coming back and recommending this place to everyone I know!
I stopped by The Serving Spoon, via Uber, prior to catching my return flight home. The parking lot was completely full, but wasn’t much a concern for me since I took an Uber but could be something for others to consider especially on weekends. I had luggage with me and the Security guard/ host politely placed my baggage in a locked office as there wasn’t much additional space for storage within the seating area. Didn’t take long before getting seated and being greeted by the waiter. After placing my order, it didn’t take long for my food to come out and it was served fresh and hot. I had the Big Spoon with a Waffle, eggs, bacon, homestyle potatoes, and grits. I topped this meal off with an Arnold Palmer (half tea, half lemonade). Everything was great! The aesthetics were deeply rooted in community showcasing pictures of various prominent black figures framed on the walls. The vibe was just right to have some friendly conversations. Didn’t feel the need to compete with surrounding noise. It was everything that you would expect of a small family diner. I would definitely visit again when visiting LA!
Down home breakfast spot. Loved the french toast. The portions are good. Definitely a place in LA to enjoy a good southern breakfast of shrimp n’ grits, pancakes and sausage, french toast and eggs or plenty of other options. Not “hipster” and thank God not the new I-wood bs they be selling these days. And Black people still go there and eat…which is an important measure as Black folk sometime are hard to please. 😊
The restaurant was crowded, with a cozy indoor waiting area. My boyfriend ordered the classic grits, eggs, and bacon, along with bone-in catfish. I told him the fins were edible too—they were crispy and flavorful. The fish itself was fresh with a thin, crispy fried coating. I had the liver for lunch, which was fresh and tender, served with onions, adding a rich flavor. My boyfriend noted a distinct iron taste and suggested liver enthusiasts shouldn’t miss it. The cornbread and waffles were truly impressive; the simpler the dish, the harder it is to make it stand out, and these did just that, making me want to return. If you enjoy traditional Southern cuisine, you must add this place to your list.

The people were the best part of the experience. I love that even though the location is not the largest the enviroment was great and welcoming. My only issues were the overly loud music and that the food was not what I expected. The chicken was fried to hard and was dry on the inside but the flavor was there. I would go back just to try other items on the menu and to interact with the amazing staff again.
SERVICE: - The hostess! Homegirl doesn't need to be a host. She was the furtherest thing from warm and welcoming. Then tried to lie about our name being called for a table. First it was we called yall and you just didn't answer because you lost your table (we never got a call), well it ain't a call it's a text (the only text we have says checking at 12:05), well I wasn't here it was my manager. I'm assuming the manager is who came out and somewhat clarified, yelp shouldn't be giving a time for checkin despite them using the platform (they need to turn that setting off); however that wasn't the issue. The issue was her lying about calling us and telling us they gave our table away based on that lie. Needless to say the manager said y'all checked in at 11:20 well said an hour, she worked it out. I over heard homegirl say "you know I don't normally work the weekends" it should probably stay that way. Homegirl needs hostess training 101, start with greeting each customer with a smile. Prior to sitting down I would have given service a 1. Our waiter (Josh) was a definite 5/5. Great energy! Positive attitude! Accommodating! And he was funny. FOOD - The Mimosa was served in plastic! That says it all. - Chicken wings, bland! I ended up not eating them. My cousin added hot sauce to make it edible, but if you me l'm a strong believer in not having to add condiments in order to get flavor. 1/5 - Mac and cheese; definitely a premade Mac with salt and pepper added. It came out cold. Not your traditional (soul food) baked Mac and cheese. It wasn't bad just what l'd expect from a black owned restaurant soul food restaurant. I did eat mine cold. 2/5 - Greens; these were also just ok, a little two sweet for my liking but that's better than it tasting like water or vinegar. 3/5 - Waffle; my first waffle was rock hard I sent it back. The second one was cooked perfectly. A nice balance of cinnamon that was sprinkled on top. 4/5 - French Toast; it had a weird after taste that I just couldn't put my finger on. Almost like an green onion flavor. 3/5 - Red Snapper; my aunt reported it was delicious! She said it was seasoned perfectly. 5/5 - Yams also a 5/5 - Cornbread had our table torn. I like cornbread that isn't too sweet and more fluffy than grainy. This was that! 4/5 - Catfish was excellent, it didn't have the dirty taste which means they know what they're doing. Seasoned perfectly and great portion size. 5/5 AMBIANCE - It's givin small family style diner from the late 70's. There's some cross with modern farmhouse like decor in the start of the restaurant that doesn't really fit the older look of thats on the wall of the second half of the restaurant. All in all seating was cozy and accommodating for our group size of 5. Important to note, they cannot host large groups, two booths of 6 is probably the max. All in all, this isn't a place l'd return to.
I kept hearing about this place so I finally was able to go. parking was limited but I found a spot on the street. Not the best neighborhood. Friendly greeting when I arrived, seated quickly. Drink…
service was sketchy. Breakfast items are well done but other offerings are below par (e.g., liver and onions tough).
