Amazing food, great environment! The music is good and the staff are so friendly! Love this place! 10/10
Best arepas in NYC (especially if you like them soft and cheesy!) You'll have many different types of arepa combinations to choose from, so this is a great place for gluten-free foodies, vegetarians, and a definite for meat-lovers (need to double-check if they have vegan options.) Their food, service and staff are great. Love this family-owned business!! Also, their new, expanded location in Queens is now open at the address above!
very tasty arepas in a friendly environment with efficient and attentive service. You can tell the employees are happy and care for their customers. Busy venue, even later in the evening, as this spot has gained fame from years of good food and service, and a strong reputation. Tip: try the condensed milk on your arepa - it is the best of all the options waiting on your table.
Karol, lucho y Manuel do such an amazing job to make you feel welcomed! I come with my partner and they are always so welcoming, they’ve gotten to a point where they know our orders and provide amazing experience. The food overall is so good! I always do the arepa rellena and it never disappoints.
We had an excellent experience at Sunday brunch. The food was delicious, and our servers, Carol and Luis, provided exceptional service. The bottomless brunch option was amazing. We Highly recommend this place.
Loved it! Good service, great food and amazing server named Brandon.
I love ordering their arepa queso with chicharron , I can’t get enough of it . The staff are super friendly and accommodating.
Can't overstate how good this place is. The chocolo árepas are probably the best version of the arepa they offer. The carne desmechado goes very well with the árepas as well as the sauces that they offer (the pineapple "sauce" is my favorite). Also definitely have the flan. Very decadent.
Everything about this place was great!!!!! The combination of a choclo arepa with something salty was really really good!!! Service was excellent and the music playing in the background was very good. We would definitely come back when we are back in the area. The tostones with the guac... that guac was really good, it had a lime flavor sooo great!!!
Ordered via door dash for pick up. Food was ready quick. I got the arepa de choclo with carne desmechada and the mini chicken empanada. The arepa was by no surprise amazing. It is basically one giant taco stuffed with a healthy amount of meat and cheese. The mini empanada was definitely mini but it was good. It came with mayo ketchup and a cilantro mayo sauce. Mayo ketchup isn't my thing but the cilantro mayo was delicious.
A classic in Jackson Heights. This place is great. I recently tried their brunch menu and it was delicious and a great deal
The joy of traveling is eating somewhere when, even for your hosts, is new to you and them! I'm in New York City eating Colombian Arepas becuase Queens has a very large Colombian community. In Jackson Heights you will see Colombian restaurants, bakeries and eateries. These arepas were plump, hearty and came in three varieties: traditional, white corn tortilla stuffed with cheese and chocolo (a yellow corn that is sweeter). The fixings were delicious too. Chicharon (pork rinds), cheese, chicken, beef. The pataconas (green plantains) were also to die for covered with chicharon & avocado. When you find something good you share it. And we did! For dessert, we ordered the flan and 7 spoons. It was THAT yummy. Arepas Lady is not to be missed. #foodie #travelblogger #travel #Queens #JacksonHeights
Absolutely delicious. The parking is the only drawback from this place. Take mass transit if you can. Not far from the Subway. The food is excellent. I will absolutely be back as often as possible.
It’s not the best looking place, but their Colombian cuisine is excellent, of good taste, and fresh. When I was there they took “cash only” I went to an ATM got the money, and enjoyed a delicious brunch along with my family! I just hope they keep the good standard of their meals!👍👌
This was one of the best meals of my NYC trip. Absolutely delicious arepas and plantains. I loved every bite and everyone had an amazing and very memorable experience. If you are ever in Jackson Heights, make sure to stop by.
My wife and I make sure to visit Arepa Lady every time we are in Jackson Heights. We love their Arepa con Quesos with extra crispy chicharrons, (fried pork belly chunks.) I love mine with their pineapple chutney, a nice sweet and savory combination. The patacones, (fried plantains) are also very tasty and are available with several different toppings. We have never had a meal that has been less than terrific at Arepa Lady.
Nothing much to say about this place other than all the nostalgia that it gives me. The quality of the food has always been great especially their portions for their prices. Would recommend to anyone on a budget
This is my first time trying arepas and they absolutely blow my mind. They’re like light sweet and savory pancakes with different stuffings, pork, cheese, shredded beef, etc. Every bite brings me lots of joy and comfort. There’s no other way to describe the food besides delicious 🤤 They are made by corns, as delicious as a pancake, but it’s light and healthy and endlessly delightful.
This establishment offers authentic Colombian cuisine they have plant based/ vegan options. They restaurant has a nice vibe at a reasonable price. The food is delicious, the staff was friendly, helpful and offered great recommendations, my service was fast. I’ve been exploring authentic foodie spots dining on the 7 train this is a great stop.
Amazing spot for excellent food at excellent prices. Would recommend and will definitely be back if I'm in the area. Went with my wife after a Mets game to have late launch. We had 2 different arepas following the recommendations of the waiter (as well as a maracuja juice). I had the "chicharron corn arepa" and my wife the "chicken corn arepa". Both were amazing but I stick with the "chicharron" one; very crispy and tasteful meat. The quality of the arepas were great, highly superior to the ones I have had before. There is also a high variety of options (which may be a bit overwhelming though). The atmosphere is very chilled and the service friendly.
Place: Medium-sized restaurant with tables varying from couples to groups of 8 (potential for more). Center of Jackson Heights, so good luck with parking! Very close to the subway stations anyhow. Single-room bathroom, very spacious and clean. Spacious layout so wheelchair and stroller-friendly! Food: It was phenomenal. Everything. My group of 5 (+1 toddler) loved all of our dishes - mini empanadas (beef, cheese, chicken), guacamole with fried arepas (!!!!!!!!), street corn, chicharron, etc. Best arepas we have all ever had. Drinks: We ordered a pitcher of passion fruit sangria and it was refreshing, good amount for ~1.5 glasses per person. Not too potent, but enough for a very light buzz for the non-frequent-drinker. Sangrias and margaritas are machine-mixed. Price: Affordable - for a group of 5.5, each eating at least two appetizers or appetizer/entree, plus pitcher = ~$140 Service: Very friendly crew. Our server and host were relaxed, let us take our time, and the food came out pretty quickly with great quality. Highly recommend!! Can’t wait to come back here!
Living in Montreal, it’s a must to stop at Arepa Lady every time I come to NYC to eat the cheese arepa with shrimp on top.. It’s out of this world! But this time I came and tried the brunch, it was amazing. The calentado was super yummy and they give a good portion of beef. Service is very good as well. Like I said at the beginning of my comment, Arepa Lady is an MUST every time I come to the city which is very often. I highly recommend this place!
I ain’t going to lie, this was my first time eating arepa from a restaurant and it was fire 🔥. Would recommend this spot to my friends and family. They have different choices and options for the arepa and you can select any type of meats or veggies for it. I wish the prices were a little cheaper though. The atmosphere was nice and the decorations were interesting.
My first time have arepas and I'm impressed. I got their arepas de choclo with steak and it was fantastic. The only negative I had, was that it was quite salty. The more you eat it, the saltier it does get, and it was a bit heavy so I was very sleepy afterwards. But other than that, it was really good. I recommend the tostones with guacamole, it came out hot and fresh and it was so good!! Also tried their black beans and rice. The beans had an interesting smoky flavor to it.
I went here on a sad, dark, rainy day in February. And this place turned around my gloomy winter mood. The restaurant was warm, the latin music was lovely, and my waitress was friendly. Really liked my arepa del choclo, and the pineapple sauce pairs really well with it. Arepa Lady is great on any day, the food is always good, but on this day, it was also what I needed.
I went here with friends for the bottomless brunch and it was really worth it. The bottomless brunch is only $20 but does not include the price of the food of course. The arepas are really delicious and they have a nice selection of drinks. The service was also good so you don't have to wait long if you want a refill.
A really beautiful place to have Colombian cuisine, the cheese arepas were on the sweeter side rather than savory but had incredible flavor. Service was also quick and provided recommendations on parking and things to do in the area. Overall recommended place for visits and a quick meal.
All arepas were amazing! - crispy, fluffy and warm. We got Arepa de chocolo and Arepa Rellena. I like their chorizo, baconand sweet plantains- perfectly seasoning. Also, they also have condensed milk and sauces on the table for you. The atmosphere was cute, nice and cozy. They also big screen on the wall the watch the sports.
Lucho was super sweet and very attentive. He was kind enough to help us get connected to the wifi to get some work done, while we juggled the kids. I had the arepa with grilled chicken, the mozzarella sticks, and the straight cheese one. Even took some home for dinner which heated up easily. The bathroom decor is so cute and original. Highly recommend coming here.
If you never had a Colombian arepa, you are missing out! No place does it better than Arepa Lady. I have tried various arepas and empanadas there, but the arepa de chocolo con chorizo is my favorite. They give you a variety of sauces too, which are all delicious. The restaurant is impeccably clean, the staff is friendly, plus it looks like a perfect place to also get drinks and watch the World Cup next year. They have a massive big screen tv! I love this place!
Arepa Lady in New York is a small but very pleasant and well-organized place. The service was excellent. I was attended by Carol, who truly provided extraordinary service, always checking on my table and giving great recommendations. The other person working with her was also very attentive, coming by several times to ask how everything was and if I enjoyed the food. There was even a large table of about 24 or 25 people, and despite that, the food came out very quickly, which shows great teamwork. The choclo arepa with cheese had a very good flavor and a generous amount of cheese for its size, although I do think it’s a bit overpriced for being just an arepa with cheese. I also tried the choclo arepa with cheese and grilled steak, which was excellent, with the meat full of flavor. Overall, a highly recommended place to enjoy delicious arepas.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely delicious! Arepa Lady is a hidden gem in Queens. The arepas are out of this world, crispy on the outside, soft and cheesy inside, and full of flavor. Every dish we tried was fresh, tasty, and made with love. The service was also great, friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving authentic Colombian food!
I came in because I was craving an arepa de choclo (sweet corn patty) with cheese. Ended up having a Patacón with Pollo desmechado. This is shredded chicken with avocado 🥑 served on top of a green plantain which is smashed and deep-fried. This particular dish was executed to perfection & absolutely blew me away! The chicken was juicy & very flavorful and the green plantain was crunchy which made it absolutely delightful and satisfying! I ended up ordering the arepa anyway, just to try it & took left overs home since it is quite large. To my surprise it was thin & presented as a crepe stuffed with cheese, instead of the traditional Colombian arepa de choclo, which is so much thicker sweet corn patty with cheese on top. Even though it was different, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I’m Colombian & have high standards. The service was excellent & will definitely be coming back to this place!
The food is great. We ordered the arepa de queso, patacon de plátano maduro con pollo desmechado, arepa de choclo con chicharrón, and a bunch of sides. The best part honestly may be the sauces they bring to the table (update: you can buy them to take home!!!!) 10/10 recommend Everything we ordered was gluten free except the arepa de choclo and french fries
This was my first time having arepa, I was blown away by it! Got a arepa de queso with chicken and avocado. The arepa was nicely stuffed and fresh. The chicken was tasty. The whole dish in itself was very heavy and more than enough for a meal. Also got a side of fried plantain. That was too sweet for me but was great.
Inviting and delicious experience. Food was very flavorful. Tostones with guacamole was a great balanced app. The guacamole was creamy acidic right amount of tomatoes and onions. The arepas didn't disappoint. Lots of meat the arepas were filling, fluffy, chewy the right texture. The decor felt like we were in a garden, leaves, flowers quaint and cozy. The service was perfect. Courteous, friendly and patiently explaining all our questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Will come back again soon!
Sooo good! Flavors, service, quality all 10/10 This is one of the best places for good Spanish food. The staff is so nice and service is fast and the food flavored to perfection. The drinks are great the frozen drinks are dangerously strong. Love love love it!! The sauces on the table are all a must try. 100 on the pineapple sauce hands down outstanding.
No soups? Apparently a place to drink. Arepas were delicious.
Got the arepa de queso with carne asada to go, about $17. It was pretty good. Liked the soft slight corn flavor of the arepa. The sauces I feel didn't add much. Sauces were like a mayo based sauce. The carne asada was a bit chewy and was not a lot. Overall I give it a 8 out of 10. I do feel it is pricey for what you get.
I brought my friends here after doing a food tour in Queens with Esneider from Culinary Backstreets. Esneider talked about his mom, the “arepa lady” who I had heard about before but a never tried. I’m so glad I came all the way back out to try the arepas! There was a wait but we were happy to walk around the neighborhood (lots to see!). Came for lunch and ordered 1 arepa per person just enough to fill our bellies. Great service too.
First time trying arepas! Our waiter was very friendly. The vibe was great, Latin music playing in the background. We got an assortment of arepas. I liked the chorizo and chicharron the best. We tried the queso and choclo varieties. The choclo arepa was sweeter, the queso was a softer/cheesy consistency. If you’re into arepas, this is the spot! If you’re wanting to try them, also the spot!
Wanted to eat an arepa and found this gem. Came in for lunch and ordered 3 different arepas (shredded chicken, chicharrón, and chorizo), and one patacón. For drinks ordered the soursop smoothie, and a black berry smoothie. The arepas were superb! They were on point. The chicharrón was made out of smoked pork belly (not a fan of smoked pork belly chicharrón but it was still good) and it was perfectly cooked. Not too hard but crispy skin and not too under cooked were the fat overtake on texture. The chorizo and chicken arepas I couldn’t complaint about anything, they were delicious. The soursop smoothie and black berry smoothie were done nicely… not too sweet and perfectly creamy. Service was good but missing a bit of friendliness. Over all a nice spot to grab a bite…go grab an arepa!
I went to ‘Arepa Lady’ on a Friday night, and even though it looked busy, they had a table for me right away. I found the menu a bit confusing, especially since I love arepas. I couldn’t quite grasp the differences between the four types, so I ended up with something tasty but not exactly what I had in mind. I ordered the arepa with cheese inside and on top, along with steak. However, it wasn’t the “sandwich arepa” I’m used to, so I felt a bit disappointed, although it did taste good. For dessert, I tried the passion fruit mousse, but it didn’t meet my expectations, and it was quite expensive. Had I known there was a dessert place nearby, I might have skipped it.
Not a ton of veggie options so if you order one thing that’s veggie everything else tastes almost the same. What really made it taste better for the veggie options was the sauces. I’m sure the meat options are probably amazing. The juices were good but I don’t think they were as fresh for the price. For $5 a cup I’d expect it to be freshly juiced. Cash only
Had a very pleasant experience with their Arepas. The prices although can be slight much for the portion size but the taste makes it worth. The sauces (Pineapple and Cilantro mayo) elevated everything. Would definitely come here again for my next visit to Brooklyn. Servers were very friendly as well.
This was an unexpected surprise. Found this place just by accident. The food is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it. My only issue is that the menu was a little bit confusing. I tried the arepa de queso, arepa rellena with pork and the arepa chocolo w chorizo. The arepa de queso was my absolute favorite. This one has a bit of a sweet taste so I think would be better for the morning. The arepa was soft and cheese on top was the perfect finish. The arepa choclo was more savory and the arepa was crispy with the chorizo and queso stuffed inside and the arepa rellena is in the middle. You get your money's worth and honestly can't go wrong with any. Also recommend the mango juice w milk. Never in my life would I think to mix juice w milk but that was spot on! Will definitely come back with my family. The spot is a bit tiny but we got seated pretty quickly and even though they started to fill up we weren't rushed out.
Came here on a Thursday around 7:30 PM and it was packed! They don’t take reservations, but tables seemed to move fast. Ordered the empanada sampler, the mixto arepa, and chicharron arepa. The mini empanadas were three tiny empanadas (chicken, beef, cheese) and came with a delicious sauce. The cheese one was the best of the three. I’d skip this as it was just okay. The mixto and chicharron arepas were delicious. They were stuffed with meat and cheese, and complimented the sweet arepa. They also had a green sauce, red sauce, and pineapple sauce. Only downside would be the slow service, otherwise I’d return to try the other arepas and patacones. 4.5/5
1st time eating here and was very satisfied to have chosen this place...the food was so good we tried the lady arepa bandeja, tostones con carne.and arepa con carne and none were disapointing the service was great and happily gave us recommendations on what dishes to order and explained our questions with patience. He recommended the mora and maracuya juices wich were so good and they have a choice of water or milk based and the milk drink was better than the water 1..the only negative was that our coffees were cold😔 other than that I would highly recommend this place
My husband and I were brought to this place by curiosity after watching a TV program with A. Bourdain. Good service and nice atmosphere. We ordered the green plantain with chicharron and the choclo arepa with carne desmechada. Unfortunatelly not enough spiced meat in arepa, but the pineapple chutney was great and matched perfectly with this chicharron dish. Next time we have to try another dishes 😉
We came on a Friday night for dinner. The arepas were nice fresh and fluffy. Meats all had great flavors and the sirloin was tender. Very filling but a great meal overall. Our server was attentive and answered all our questions during ordering. Love to come back and try other dishes!
Ordered the Arepa choclo with Chorizo, and was blown away by the taste. Chorizo was very flavorful, had a nice sweet taste. Choclo was great, but surprised there wasn't enough of it to actually fill the arepa. Arepa was the best part, it was fluffy yet had a bit of a thin crust. Kind of like a sweet pancake, but much better. For almost $17, it's not much food, was more of an appetizer. Definitely needed more choclo to make it full. Delicious though, and take out guy was very friendly. Only took ten minutes to get it to go. Still thinking about it the next day.
Tasty food. Good latin atmosphere and music. Sweet plantain with chicharron was delicious, so the picada.. Be prepared to be charged 20% for tipping if you do not get use to (it is not my case because I usually tip 20%). What I do not agree is that you can be extra charge either if you pay by cash or credit card.
This is my favorite place to get patacones and arepas from in NYC Queens. We have ordered from here several times and we genuinely love the food from here. We like to order arepas de choclo con queso as a dessert. So delicious. Have a taste of South America while in NYC. You won’t be disappointed!
Food was tasteless and cold. the place was dark, too dark for the menu to be seen during the day. Terrible service. Not a place ill return or recommend
The staff is very neat, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant is attractive, clean, and inviting and the food is delicious. Still, it's too expensive -- the prices have gone up about 50% recently, and the portions are small. Two of us paid over $40 (without tax or tip) for 2 arepas and an ear or corn. Average eaters migh have to pay over $60 + tax and tip to feel they've eaten enough Their story is very compelling, but it's just too expensive -- which is a shame, because we really enjoyed their food. It's a very lovely restaurant and we enjoyed their food.
I personally can not justify paying the amount that I did for the amount of food that I got, especially given that each item had around 3 fairly simple components. The pictures in reviews make the arepas seem huge, but they're just on small plates. I've seen bigger arepas at the same price point and at even half the price point. 12 dollars for a sweet corn arepa with a fair amount of chicken and some cheese is actually insane, especially given the size. I'm not sure how the arepa con queso was even smaller than the choclo. The food tasted good at least, but the flavors and ingredients were fairly simple, making me think I could probably just make it at home. I honestly will try making the patacones, and I'll see how much I can save. The food was good, but the portion sizes at the price point, given the fairly simple ingredients and flavors, made it super underwhelming. Way too expensive for what you get. Green sauce on the side was tasty, though. The workers were very friendly too.
it was my first time trying this specific restaurant I heard it was good so I decided to go. I honestly i think $15 for a arepa de choclo when it isn’t even that big is not worth it. I had to get an arepa after and it wasn’t worth 15 either plus i found a hair in it. The food was OK. Would I go back? No
I liked the food, but the atmosphere at night is very dark. Also, they included the tip, although I suppose it should be optional depending on the service and other factors, but oh well, every restaurant has its own rules.
$15 for one 6" arepa just cheese! That's just crazy! We left after seeing the menu prices. We make them at home, it's $3.99 for a pack of FIVE arepas from the store!
I have been a customer of this establishment for many years. During my most recent visit, while dining inside the restaurant, two roaches crawled directly across our table. We immediately trapped one of the roaches under an empty glass and notified the manager, expecting immediate removal of the insect and proper sanitation of the area. Instead, the manager retreated to the back of the restaurant, remained on the phone, and did not return to address the issue at any point — despite a live roach remaining on our table. Only after we requested the check did the manager reappear, prompted by the waitress. We made it clear that we were not seeking a discount or compensation. We expected acknowledgment, accountability, and basic health-code protocol. The manager dismissed the situation by stating, “These things happen,” while the roach was still alive and visible under the glass!! Never came over to move us or kill the roaches. This response was unacceptable. While pests in NYC are not unheard of, roaches actively crawling on a dining table and management refusing to intervene is not normal, acceptable, or compliant with health standards. The lack of urgency, sanitation, and professionalism reflects a serious breakdown in food safety practices. As a long-time customer, I am deeply disappointed. This incident warrants review and re-inspection by the NYC Department of Health.
