Server was awesome. Food great. Will be back. Seating felt very cafeteria like but didn't stop us from enjoying our food.. cheese and onion enchiladas with refried beans and rice. Chips and salsa.
Natalie was very attentive to us and left us with extra chips and salsa! The salsa is fantastic and the chips are light and crispy! We shared the Superior plate with two cheese enchiladas, a tamale and a beef taco with baracho beans and rice! The beans are made with beer which of course makes them delicious! All in all highly recommend!!
My granny and I ate a late lunch here today. She has been many times before but today was my first experience. Everything was great! They were pretty busy but our server, Earl, was spot on. Our meal was served quickly and it was delicious. The salsa was just spicy enough and the queso was cheesy perfection. I will bring the family back for sure.
The beef in fajitas is about as tender as I've ever had. I'm not sure how they prepare it, but I'm impressed.
La Mesa is good!! I never notice it too busy so if you like to go eat where you dont have to fight the crowd or wait hit this place up. Good little tequila bar Salsa is fire
From the moment I first walked in, La Mesa Mesquite Grill grabbed my attention. I absolutely love the food and the place is super clean and inviting…makes you want to hang out for a while. The staff here is super attentive and friendly. This is the spot you want for your next sit-down, nice restaurant. It’s a gem of a find.
Visited on a Saturday around 12pm and it was quiet, but service was attentive. Salsa served with chips was flavorful! Main course was delicious and focusing us to come back again! Restroom sign...."Balls" & "No Balls". Wife loved it!
Had dinner here for the first time, tonight (23 July). IT WAS WONDERFUL! It was crowded so we sat at the bar, my husband and I. Our bartender/waiter, Davis was knowledgeable, witty, charming and good at his job. Both bartenders were incredibly busy. However, both were attentive and so welcoming. The food was amazing. Some of the best fajitas we've ever had! Just enough for 2! Really enjoyed this experience!
My kind of place! Damn good food and alcohol. If you like Mexican food, you're gonna love this place. The food portions are fit for a greedy king, and the quality/taste is on point. Whether you like spicy food or very mild, this place has you covered. The wait staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu as well as recommendations of their personality favorites. Open floor plan with a modern day rustic country look. Just how Texas likes it. Good music mix playing in the background while you eat and/or drink. LA Mesa, you got a brand new fan, and I'm coming back for more! I do regret that I was so busy eating and talking that I forgot to snap some pics. I'll get some in the next round and add them to this review.
My friend got very sick while at the restaurant. The manager is unbelievably amazing!! She was so helpful, kind and intelligent. While running a busy restaurant she ensured to help my friend clean up and do it all with a smile on her face. 12/10 recommend
Can't believe we never ate here before, they were busy tonight and still the service was great. The food was SO DELICIOUS, The salsa is amazing. The price was great and the portion size perfect for dinner and a take home snack for lunch tomorrow. We will be back.
Out of nowhere we passed then stopped at this great Mexican eatery. The food was incredible! The prices incredible! Service was…. Incredible! Very hip place and was flat out impressive. Did I mention the food was off the charts fantastic? Be sure to order the guacamole with chips!
The food, and especially their tacos and drinks, are always amazing!! And Lindsey, the bar tenders is always spectacular!! The woman deserves a raise!! She is the main reason we keep going back!!
My family and I (10 +5 kiddos) showed up to eat dinner around 7:30 not knowing they closed at 8. They were happy to seat and serve us regardless of closing soon and made us feel welcome. Alyssa was our waitress! She was so kind, extremely friendly, and took great care of us! The food came out quickly. It was fresh and delicious! We will definitely be eating here again! Hopefully Alyssa is our waitress next time she made our visit a 10/10.
My family recently moved to this area from San Marcos Tx, and being from around San Antonio and Austin we are used to having really good mexican food. I moved up here and tried a few different places, only to be disappointed by the lack of flavor. La Mesa changed that, their food is wonderful and full of authentic flavor and the plates had plenty of food. Me and my both had the chile relleno, and it was great. We both left full and very happy that there is actually a good mexican resteraunt near our new home.
My wife and I split a fajita chicken salad for a late afternoon lunch. Our waiter, Ryan, was a polite young man. He brought us an extra plate without us having to ask. The flavor of the fajita chicken was wonderful and the salad was great with grilled onions, peppers, and purple cabbage. We both loved the flavor and freshness of the salad. There are no booths in this restaurant but the tables are comfortable enough. Although most of the noise in the space was caused by the chairs being scooted in and out at the tables. We live in Burleson and were happy to discover this restaurant nearby in Joshua. Based on this one visit we will definitely be back and bring our friends.
Came to eat lunch with my hubby. We had amazing service and the food here was wonderful! We will definitely be back.
Great experience with a late lunch, our server was Morgan and she did an EXCELLENT job fast and friendly service - and she was so patient and accommodating to my 90yo grandmother with her asking multiple questions as she tried a new restaurant
My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for a while! We went in last minute tonight and we were so glad we did! The atmosphere and design was incredible- the agave designs that cover the walls along with the hand painted mural were amazing. Our server, Earl, was friendly, helpful and attentive. Our food came out quick and was delicious. We can’t wait to go back soon!
Always have a great experience with the day crew Lindsey and Alyssa.
Thank you to Chris, the owner, first for being kind enough to let me have a " Celebration of Life", for my mom with her in attendance. Second, to all of the employees whom immediately got the tables for 45 people, set up, laid out and then taking all orders, from each individual families, you did a remarkable job staying on top of it all and being gracious enough to be there for us all! To the cook who had to prepare all the food for this party of 45, you did an awesome job getting it done and out in record time! This was my first time to walk into this establishment and get the best of all anywhere in quite sometime, especially for the reason behind it. Thank you all again and know, I will be back!
We came in for lunch today and it was very busy. Nat was our server and she was AMAZING! She had a lot of tables to tend to and she did the very best she could, and handled it all great. The food was great, but our service was 1000/10! Thanks Nat!
Courtnee was a fabulous server. Our first visit but definitely not our last.
I've lived in Joshua for about 3 years now, and I'm mad at myself for not trying this place sooner! The service was outstanding! I have looked my entire life for this chilli relleno! And now I have to try the Guacamole enchiladas and the Mexican pizzas. Awesome experience!
Maci is incredible! She wears so many hats during her shift yet still provides excellent service. She’s the reason we continue to come weekly!
I recently moved to the area and have visited a few times. This place will be packed and Linsey and Alyssa will somehow have it under control. These girls are awesome. Cool atmosphere and delicious food/drinks.
I make it a point to eat lunch here at least once a week! The food is delicious and I can never get enough of the chips and salsa! Alyssa and Lindsey do an amazing job taking care of you!
This restaurant is a gem! If you're looking for a real good place for Mexican food as well as super good service, this is the place to go. Our server, Taryn, was super nice and excellent at her job. She grew up and graduated in Joshua. Since we were from WAY out of town (McKinney), she kindly answered all our questions about her town. The food, by far, was some of the best tex-mex we've tried. I would recommend the steak. It's in many different dishes they offered. My husband ordered the chili rellano (recommended by Taryn). It was topped with thin slices of steak. I ordered the steak cheese enchiladas, which were also top notch! Taryn had provided a small sample of their sauces. I used that to as a dip for each scrumptious bite.
What a pleasant experience we had here! The nachos were wonderful, and the staff was so so nice. Shoutout to the bartender (Brandi?, Megan?.....) for her excellent attitude and skills making me a strawberry lemonade, that was the best I've ever had! Enjoy your trip there, I know I did!!
I put off and off going to LaMesa thinking just another Mexican food place with spicy food. Nope. Not at all. And the chips are crisp and I ate too many and I loved their steak nachos. I am going back and back and back. Had the cutest waitress too.
Easily Top 3 Mexican restaurant in JoCo! Unique servings, delicious food, queso + salsa + chips combo is absolutely the best. The dishes are huge, the drinks are creative and tasty, the atmosphere is casual and clean, very trendy feel with the bar and high ceilings. We drive from across the county to bring the family for dinner because we KNOW it's going to be good! Highly recommend the creamy jalapeño dip, which is just like Chuy's infamous creation! Guacamole is awesome, salsa smoky, queso flavorful. Parking can be tricky but this area has grown up a lot. There is often a wait during peak times, but as you can imagine, it's 100% worth waiting. Make La Mesa tops on your list of dining options, even if it's a drive to get there!
Eating alone, I sat at the bar and got the best service imaginable. I had great conversations with the other patrons and the bartender, Maci, was incredible. I never ran out of salsa or a drink and she was actually very friendly and entertaining. Great place!
Have been here several times. Service was never better until we had Brayden!! AMAZING server!! Kept drinks, chips, and salsa full. As a party of 18, you would think we would be empty on something. Nope! Brayden was on it. This boy needs a raise!! (And yes—we left him a big tip!!)
We had Khristian as our server and he was extremely respectful and took great care of us. He refilled our drinks and gave us great recommendations!! Definitely go see him!! Food was great!!
La Mesa in Joshua is hands-down the place to be for lunch on a Friday! The food is great, the atmosphere is always welcoming, and the company is even better — but what really sets this place apart is the staff.. Lyndsey behind the bar is incredible. She makes the best margaritas I’ve ever had, literally no comparison. Perfect everytime! I’m always worried when a waitress takes your order without a pen and pad but she gets my order right everytime - very impressive. And then there’s Alyssa — if you know, you know. She’s simply the best waitress. Attentive, friendly, and makes you feel like family every single visit. She’s just… Alyssa. (Always making sure I have my salt.. with a smile) Anyways good food, good drinks, good company — but most of all, the best bartender and the best waitress you could ask for. This place wouldn’t be the same without them. Highly recommend.
Maci is great at the bar. She always makes us delicious drinks. She always takes awesome care of us. She is the main reason we come here. The food is really good most of the time. Sometimes the burritos don’t have enough meat in them.
Hunter was an amazing server. The drinks here are fantastic, and the food was amazing. I had a ground beef chimichanga with the restaurant's signature sauce, and it's not my favorite sauce, but it was equally phenomenal. Would recommend going back. It's nice to visit my hometown and see new ways it has grown, and an amazing restaurant being so local.
When in yesterday for lunch with a group of ladies, I don’t usually leave reviews of any kind. But this was deserved! The food was great, the atmosphere was welcoming, but what really made the experience stand out was our server, Lindsey. She went above and beyond from the moment we sat down. Super attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our visit. You can tell she genuinely cares about her guests. I’ll definitely be back, and I’ll be asking for Lindsey again. Highly recommend!
I come to La Mesa two to three times a week, not out of routine but because it’s one of the few places that genuinely feels worth showing up for every time. The food’s always solid, but it’s the people behind it that really make this place what it is. Lindsey, Alyssa, Rachel, Brayden, and Maci — this crew is the heartbeat of the place. They don’t just show up for a paycheck. You can tell they actually care about the job, the customers, and each other. Every single one of them brings something to the table. Even the team members I haven’t mentioned by name all help keep this place running smooth, and every interaction I’ve had has been nothing but positive. The whole team works well together, and it’s clear they take pride in what they do. That’s what makes La Mesa feel a little different in the best way.
Good atmosphere. Not intimate but more "fun" like a BBQ place. REALLY nice tho. Loud but had a good feel to it! Loved the wall paintings too! The waiter was great. Very helpful but not in your face. The sauces were excellent as were the (thin-style) chips. The sauce was kind of a fresca type - very fresh & tasty. In the trio appetizer, you also got queso, ranch & guac - all of which were yummy!! I also got a meat pizza. I was too full to really enjoy it as I had enjoyed the rest of the food!!! The bite i got was very tasty tho. Thanks y'all! We'll be back! ❤ _______ Was soooo delicious this visit! The waitress was fantastic too! Really loved it! 😍
We found this restaurant while looking at houses in the area. First of all, our waitress was amazing. She was very helpful for food suggestions, and she was great at making sure we had everything we could ask for. Our food was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be coming back very soon..
Food was absolutely delicious. Not a traditional Mexican restaurant, but the Mexican cuisine flavor is nice. We got street tacos, chicken taquitos, street corn, the 3 different dips appetizer. All of it was delicious. Also got some alcoholic drinks, which were well made. Flavors were on point. My final point is the service. Morgan, Morgan, Morgan, ask for Morgan. Her service is top notch. She just does all the expectations and then above and beyond what you could ask for for service. She did a fantastic job. Kudos to the restaurant for having her as an employee. We will definitely return!
I have never been to this place before but I am so glad that we gave it a chance! It had a great atmosphere and plenty of room inside! The service was awesome and so fast! The chips were delicious just by themself! The salsa was the bomb! We also got Queso and it had a great taste! You can see all the food that we had! Everything was awesome and we will definitely be back! Give it a try!
I had lunch here around 12:30pm on 7/13. We were warmly greeted by the staff and seated immediately. The chips and salsa came out as we searched the menu for our options. The chips were nice and crisp, seasoned pleasantly, and went great with the fresh and brightly flavored salsa that wasn’t too spicy at all. I ordered the superior plate. The taco was delicious, the brisket tamale was fantastic, and the cheese and onion enchiladas were delightful. The rice was also perfectly cooked and wonderfully seasoned. But the beans were not my cup of tea. In fact, they tasted like straight beer. Maybe they needed to cook the beer out more? Either way, the beans did not hamper my enjoyment of a wonderful meal. I enjoyed my time here very much.
Amazing food, that is fresh and authentic!! This is absolutely some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. And our waitress, Taryn, was fantastic! We could not have asked for better service!! We’ve been back twice since the first review - I’m addicted!! I have to eat there at least once a week. But we tried the fajitas fundido, and I added a photo. Phenomenal!!
Been here twice already since they opened 3 weeks ago and let me tell you for a Joshua restaurant, im glad it's here! Delicious food both times, chips and salsa are yummy, staff who are super friendly especially our 2nd time Addie, and they are quick to check up on you! 04/21/21 it was very busy, but got our food In a decent time. They are still working out everything but the food has yet to disappoint! **Will post pictures below** I would recommend, the food is great and it's also convenient! Don't have to go far to get great Mexican food anymore!
Lindsay is an awesome server, always so attentive and super helpful. She always has the best smile and bubbly personality!!
The food and quality has gone up! Very recently too I might add. Not sure if it’s the new hires or new manager or what, but the food quality is better than when it opened. Our server, Ariel, crushed it. Drinks/cocktails were on par with what should be expected (although there should be a head on served draft beer). I’ve never seen a table bussed so cleanly too. All in all a great (and improved) experience. Recommended.
The food is always amazing but the service is hit or miss. Sometimes they're on top of it and Sometimes you go a whole meal waiting for a refill
Very good Tex-Mex, unique way of making chili rellenos. But the server was excellent and knowledgeable and help me make a delicious choice
Nice visit. Great service, tequila drink was excellent. Good people.
The food was good and plentiful and at a good price. The servers were attentive and pleasant. The dining area was cold and very loud. The metal chairs were noisy. You really had to talk loud to carry on a conversation. (Which just added to the noise level)
Went here for lunch, and the food was excellent! Had the beef fajita chimichanga, which was cooked perfectly. The salsa and chips are great, and the drinks are well made. Our waitress was phenomenal at making sure we had everything we needed and was very attentive. Lunch atmosphere wasn't bad, but is always different than dinner atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back again!
Great atmosphere and beautiful building. Food was great. Service is good but very attentive which becomes annoying to me. I didn't really care for the check being electronic as the waitress waits for you to pay as they stand there. I felt rushed to get you in and out not allowing to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Id definitely switch to a paper ticket for your bill. Id definitely come back and im looking forward to the newness wearing off of the staff. I do appreciate good service but it felt overwhelming at times.
The restaurant is clean. I liked the decor. It wasn't too packed and the service was good. We all enjoyed our dinner. I asked if they had any spicier salsa and the waitress said, "we have a green chili sauce if you want to try that." I agreed and it was really tasty, although I was surprised to see that I was charged $3 for the mini shot glass size side of sauce. And now I know not to ask for sauce. If we happen to be in Joshua and craving some Tex Mex, we'll give it another shot.
First time eating there tonight. Been thinking about it for awhile. Salsa and chips were good, Queso was meh. If your a queso lover, this is not it. Tasted like the can cheese on ballpark nachos. Ordered the chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce. Excellent taste just not a huge portion. Wifey got steak fajitas which were Excellent as well. Finished off with sopapillias and they were no Bueno. Wouldn't order again. Service was decent, they could use a few extra servers but it wasn't too crazy. All in all it was a middle of the road experience. Wasn't great, want terrible just average. Would go back, but not jumping thru hoops to go there again either. Rate it really 2.5 / 5
Wasn't too impressed with the food. It was just ok. I got steak fajitas which was falling apart like a roast. Not what I was expecting. Someone else at the table got carne guisada, which looked more like beef stew. Our waitress was excellent and it was a nice place. I'm not saying I wouldn't go back, but I'm not going to be the one that picks it.
The food was decent, but half of it was cold. It took 3 tries to get edible tortillas. The portions were tiny. We got maybe 4 slivers of onions and peppers with each fajitas platter. The servers couldn't remember the simplest things, and the food delivery girl had to keep going back and forth to our table. $2.00 upcharge for literally a teaspoon of guacamole. This was our second attempt at this place, and both were bad. We won't be coming back.
This is a newish place, but they definitely have some things to learn. The food was ok. Not spectacular. OVERPRICED! $7 for one tamale, $10 for literally one cup of soup (that's 1 cup volume), and another 5 dollars for one ear of roasted corn. The food was not worth the price... there was no shortage of alcoholic drinks being served. Maybe that's the trick. If I'm a little sloshed, I won't notice the rest.... The restaurant was kept around d 70°, so be sure to bring something to cover up with. Far too cold to be comfortable. The dining room was not only temperature cold, but everything was gray and white. Very little color in the decor. They really need to learn a thing or two about latino decor. It doesn't have to be gaudy, but make it feel like a place I can be comfortable. The service was sub par. We could see our server hanging out at the host station, which wouldn't be an issue if we didn't have any needs. We never even got a single refill... Please, La Mesa, take note, and make some improvements. You have a great deal of potential.
Salsa is good but the rice & beans are not to my taste. Good place to stop for a drink & some fajitas. Also there is no booth seating.
The food and service were ok. It was ok for lunch but the atmosphere is lacking. It's too open, too bright and too loud. By loud, I mean the echoes. The chairs on that floor were like nails on a chalkboard. Add some plants and maybe some soft furnishings like a lounge area to absorb some of the noise, and dim the lights some. It's has soo much potential!!
We went in on Sunday afternoon and the host was very sweet and sat us immediately. Our server Andrea was awesome! She was attentive, friendly and a joy to speak with. Our draft beer was ice cold. The seating isn't comfortable, definitely not for enjoying some drinks and talk. The music is very loud and more like a dance club. The food was not the best in Mexican food. Nothing spectacular just what you could throw together at home. The ground beef had a strange taste that I couldn't put my finger on, probably just low quality. The chips came all broken into pieces. The salsa had too much smoke flavor. I wanted to love the place but the food isn't the best. The service and friendliness from the entire staff was perfect but the food is lackluster.
**A Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations** ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Upon arrival, we were seated promptly, which was a promising start. However, the rest of the experience left much to be desired. The complimentary chips and salsa were underwhelming, lacking the vibrant flavors you'd hope for. Service was painfully slow, with nearly 20 minutes passing before anyone came to take our drink order. We ordered guacamole and drinks—while the guac arrived quickly and was decent, the drinks lagged behind, taking about five additional minutes. By the time our server returned to take the main order at around 40 minutes, we were nearing the hour mark and almost considered paying the bill and leaving without our meals. Luckily, the food arrived just as we were reaching our limit. The kid’s bean and cheese nachos were acceptable for a child’s meal, but the adult dishes fell flat. The appetizer plate was forgettable, and the steak fajita chimichanga lacked any notable flavor. The accompanying rice was bland, and the beans were runny and lacked depth. For the price and the hype surrounding this restaurant, we expected significantly better quality. To add to the disappointment, the noise level was frustratingly high. The harsh sound of wooden chairs scraping across polished concrete floors each time the seating arrangements changed was grating. Overall, while the service had redeeming moments, and we appreciated being seated promptly, the lackluster food and unpleasant atmosphere made this a middling dining experience that doesn’t inspire a return visit.
Usually good quality food, and friendly service, but inconsistent. Margaritas flavorful but are a very weak though. Try the Mango margarita as it's less acidic, more smooth; but still pretty weak. My fav is the #6 that has a chili reneno AND a cheese enchilada. However, the last visit was slow and didn't get my margarita until halfway through the dinner, after the waitress made it herself (still very weak for $9). Skirt streak was tough and chewy. Noisy place! Inconsistent quality
This isn’t Mexican Food. It’s not even good Tex-Mex. Best explanation of the food is some spices mixed with some ketchup. Our waitress was absolutely awesome thus a 2 star rating. The Chicken Enchiladas are terrible. Sad people really don’t know what good Mexican food tastes like.
Only giving 2 stars because I like the food. However, not sure I’ll go back and give them my business after this evening. I called to place a to go order and was told by the girl on the phone they don’t take to go orders on weekends and the bar was busy. So because I didn’t want to go eat inside alone, they refused my service. Also, I know that’s a lie as I have ordered to go from there on the weekend before. Very disappointed and shocked that they would refuse to serve someone. I’m single and don’t always have someone to go eat with and like to get take out that isn’t fast food. Apparently, my business is not wanted here.
Went on a Thursday at 8pm. They were about 1/4 tables filled (6 at most). Plenty of waitresses (at least 4), a host and bartender. We were seated almost immediately and our waitress was friendly. After ordering we didn't see her for a while and had finished chips, salsa and all of my drink before she came back. She refilled mine but not my husband's that was half full. When food came it was very underwhelming. All plates had very dry, overcooked rice. The taco plate was bland, chicken samosas good but underfilled with meat and Chile relleno was undercooked with the pepper hard to cut. We had finished eating for ten minutes before the waitress brought the check, then sat another ten minutes waiting for her to ring our check out, before I finally went to the bar to ring out myself. We saw her waiting no other tables the whole time we were there, so if she couldn't take care of our table (for whatever reason), letting us know or passing us off to another waitress would have been better than non existent service without an explanation. From our experience tonight, the food and service was underwhelming for the price paid.
Atmosphere, drinks, and chips & salsa were good. The food was disappointing to say the least. I've had more meat on a vegetarian dish
Went there around 1pm on a friday. Not very many people were in there. They had us seat ourselves. Took the server about 15-20 minutes to get us menus and take our drink orders after we sat down. Not real mexican food. It's like mexican INSPIRED dishes. If youre looking for an authentic mexican food restaurant, this is NOT the place. Food was just fine for what it is. Super average food. Nice for a lunch date. 2 people. We ordered queso dip, a burrito and tacos and 2 sodas. It was $50+.
I know the rating is low. I'm not trying to be mean. I just want to be honest. The outside of the building is really nice. In fact, it has continuously caught my eye when in the area. The inside is nice. It's just a little too open for my liking. I also thought it was a little too bright. I think dimmer lighting would be more appealing: not dark, just a little dimmer for a better ambiance. Our group was disappointed that frozen drinks weren't available, but Megan, the manager and person who served us, has been waiting 6 months for the machine's motor, so it's clearly not her fault. She was very apologetic and served us flawlessly. Thanks, Megan.
Worst service ever. We had to ask for our appetizer 3 times. Requested refills- that never came. Asked for to go boxes before we got our food as it took so long. We had to get ourselves. The manager, wait staff were extremely rude. Even the hostess told my brother in law she didn’t get paid enough to listen to him. Do Better Be Better!!
First thing out of the servers mouth “We are getting ready to close. They are closing down the kitchen”. We arrived at 8:25 pm, party of 3. Out the door by 8:56 pm. Sorry to be an inconvenience.
Today we came in with a large group of people after church. We sat patiently waiting for over 30 min watching smaller groups who came in after us being seated. Then a group of 12 that came and and waited about 10 min were seated at a table. The kicker was there was an empty table next to the other two tables that were pushed together to accommodate the party of 12 that would have accommodated our group. When we talked to the staff, they apologized and said they were waiting for more tables to clear for our group. Maybe the party of 12 should have waited for those tables. To top it off person from our group went to the restroom and overheard a couple of the employees complaining about our group. Not a good look, and disheartening. We’ve always enjoyed La Mesa but unfortunately won’t be back.
Do NOT take a big group here. We had a group of 18. The employees were upset with how large the group was. They made comments, and faces. They intentionally sat every person that walked in before us, including a group of 12 that walked in after us, in which they could of sat us first since we had been waiting for 1.5 hours, and the seating was available. The manager did nothing, but make excuses. They just didn't want to serve such a large table. We have eaten here frequently, and always tip 20% plus. We will no longer be going back just for the staff, and manager. Bad customer service.
When we got there it was pretty empty we had to wait for someone to seat and greet us for a few minutes which was disappointing. Appetizers came out fast and food came out fast. The food was pretty good. The waitress bought us the check while we were still eating. Then she took what seemed like FOREVER to collect payment we were just sitting there waiting while she looked like she was on her phone idk. But we won’t be going back waitress was friendly but they really need to have more people waiting. Such a shame I had high hopes for this place. It’s a really nice building smh
Wanted to love this place, as it was highly recommended. The food was delicious but the service ruined the whole dinner. We heard they make excellent drinks, but sadly we will never know. We were told halfway through our meal the drinks we ordered upon being seated, were STILL being made. Never have I received my meal, let alone had time to finish it before receiving my drink. The waitress was extremely apologetic , first stating the bar tender was running behind then that they were "talked" to by the Manger and stormed out. Don't worry though she guaranteed us they'd remove the drinks we never ordered from our bill. What horrible management! That Manger should have been making the apology not the waitress. That Manger should have taken over the roll of bartender and prepared the drinks, comping us for this awful service. Just so poorly handled it was painful to even be there and watch management ruin a great spot.
Just had the worst experience ever. Went in to get a to go order- stood there 8 minutes- no acknowledgement- finally asked bar tender for help and was told I would have to wait another 20 minutes before she could assist me. Needless to say I left . While waiting I also witnessed the same bar tender be extremely rude to a customer who's drink she had made wrong.. Need to tell her to do better
How was the food? No idea. Went in with a party of 4 on Sunday and the restaraunt was less than 1/4 full. Hostes and waitress looked confused just trying to seat us. Get to our table and sit there 10 full minutes without a single person coming to our table. No drinks, nothing. Watched these young girls come in and out of the kitchen laughing and playing with whoever was back there. They also looked like they were confused about other tables food orders. Another table of 2 sat next to us about 5 minutes after us. Those ladies got chips, salsa, and drinks. This restaraunt is very mismanaged and the staff is not taking their jobs seriously or professionally. Will never come back.
Server was unattendtive. No napkins or utensils after serving the food. Had to ask bus boy to bring them. The larger tables got most if the service. We were mainly ignored and had to wave down server for our needs. Food was good though.
To the owners: Who is running this place? This place has potential to be great and everyone wants it too. But the service is absolutely trash. Why? Servers acting like play time all day and treat us like we are an inconvenience.
On Thursday, 22MAY25, my family and I visited La Mesa for dinner at about 7:30pm. When we entered the restaurant, there was no hostess to greet us. There were two parties waiting for a table. 1 party of 3 and 1 party of 2. We were a party of 6. I saw that 1 table was empty and clean and there were 2 tables that were empty but needed bussing. It took several minutes until a waitress came to the front and told us that it would be a 45-minute wait. I asked if I could bus one of the empty tables to make it available. The waitress liked that idea but had to check with the manager. I watched the manager shake her head no, but nobody returned to speak with me. After several more minutes the hostess made an appearance, asked how many were in our party and then told me that it would be a 30-minute wait. When I asked about bussing my own table, the hostess advised that her manager had said no. The waitress went on to add that they were "trying to catch up in the back". During this conversation, another 2 tables became available but needed to be cleared. La Mesa has always been one of our favorite restaurants, but we have noticed that over the last year, something has changed and not for the better. I don't know what the issue was that night but leaving tables dirty and people wait for said tables so that the staff "can catch up" will likely result in a lot less people to fill the tables. We left without being served and found another restaurant. (and it wasn't the Hickory Tree)
I ordered the street taco plate for pickup, I only live 10 mins. away, food was cold! Pico was not fresh. The service for pickup quite frankly sucked as there was no attempt to acknowledge my presence and left me waiting while she was tending the bar. Not at all what I expected for the extreme price of street tacos plate!
One and done for us. Food is basic at best, very bland and overpriced for what it is. The waitress had the worst attitude I've ever seen in my life. Atmosphere is severely lacking...no booths, nothing to break up the noise, music too loud. Unfortunately this is common in small towns that have a captured audience.
We have been here twice. The first time was ok. Food was decent but service left something to be desired. We tried again yesterday (08/24/2026) and ended up leaving without ordering so much as a glass of water. The restaurant wasn't busy but you could tell they were a little under staffed and unorganized. That's completely understandable; however what isn't excusable is watching two tables get seated after you and get immediate service. No employee ever came to our table and then we watched as two of the wait staff, one of whom sat us down, come running in and out of the kitchen laughing and joking. That was enough for us. I'll never come back and I'll relay my experience to others who ask.
