Absolutely amazing experience at this hidden gem tucked away in the woods. From the moment we walked in, we were transported into a cozy, rustic oasis that was as beautiful as it was inviting. The space is thoughtfully designed, with warm wooden accents, soft lighting, and an overall charming ambiance that feels quintessentially “steakhouse.” The food was Simply spectacular. We ordered the mixed grill for two, and every bite was perfection. It was the perfect sampler plate to try a variety of their expertly prepared meats; tender, juicy, and cooked exactly to our liking. Each piece had its own distinctive flavor, and you could tell they take great pride in sourcing and preparing high-quality cuts. But what really set this place apart was the service. The staff was not only incredibly friendly and attentive, but they also had a wealth of knowledge about the meats they served. Our server took the time to explain the origins of the cuts and offered great recommendations to pair with our meal. It felt like we were in good hands the whole time. Overall, this is a must-visit for anyone looking for a delicious steak dinner in a peaceful, picturesque setting. We can’t wait to come back!
We shared a wonderful meal in their patio space. Delicious appetizers and perfectly cooked steaks. Our server Gina was super helpful with our many questions. We will absolutely be back when we’re back in town next year. If you’re thinking of trying this place out, you won’t be disappointed!
I booked a reservation on OpenTable, provided my credit card information and assumed everything was set. Arrived at The Lost Fire...reservation was not in the system. They were booked solid and had to scramble because the outdoor service was unavailable due to an earlier rain storm. Front of the house service still accomodated us. Back of the house service was fantastic. Manager was on point. From the moment you approach the front door, you can breathe the wood fires preparing the food. Delicious and authentically prepared ceviches and steaks. Excellent selection of drinks from the bar. Excellent service. We will be visiting again!
This was one of the top 3 steaks I’ve ever had. The empanadas were great, we tried one of each type. The service was phenomenal and food even better. Though it was a bit out of the way, it was worth the drive!
The best steakhouse in Maine....hands down! We kicked things off with the Argentinian beef empanadas because, well, how could we not? They were flavorful and well-made, but honestly, the steaks were so massive that we didn’t need the appetizer. Complimentary bread arrives with two oil-based dips, one chimichurri and one with peppers and onions. That second one stole the show for me and was the perfect complement to the steak. We ordered the bacon-wrapped ribeye special and the strip. Both were enormous, beautifully cooked, and packed with flavor. The mashed potatoes were pure creamy goodness, and the spinach made for a great side. We ended up taking half our steaks home, and they were just as delicious the next day. For dessert, we couldn’t resist the nostalgic ice cream sandwich. Loved the cookie packaging and the portion size, just right after a big meal. Be sure to save a little room!
We are visiting Boston, Portland, and Kennebunkport from Texas. This was our standout meal, and we had a lot of great ones. Upscale without being stuffy. Definitely a special occasion spot for people in our tax bracket, but the food was just exceptional. I’ll dream of my short rib and Brussels for a while.
The food here is top notch. Everything we had was excellent! The short rib was excellent, the best I have ever had. My steak was excellent!
My husband and I haven’t had an experience this good since our honeymoon in Hawaii. Everything was so fresh and delicious. You could taste and see the effort that was poured into everything. Our waitress was amazing and I even told her that I couldn’t remember the last time I was this “wowed”. I can’t wait to come back next year!
I haven’t had a better steak in Maine than the steak at Lost Fire. I wish I could come here more often. The creamy spinach is a MUST. Everything tasted amazing. One of my top 3 reataurants in all Maine hands down. Excited to go to their other 2 sister restaurants.
While visiting Kennebunkport, we mentioned to a local shop owner that we were planning to dine at Twelve in Portland. She quickly recommended The Lost Fire, just a few minutes outside of town, telling us it was worth the stop. I’m so glad we took her advice! This place is clearly a local favorite—the parking lot was nearly full when we pulled in at 4:50, just 20 minutes after they opened, and a steady stream of cars kept arriving. Reservations seem to be a must, but we lucked out and grabbed seats at the outdoor patio bar. The weather was perfect, and sitting outside made for a great start to the meal. We’re pretty spoiled when it comes to food and usually eat at high-end spots, so our bar is set pretty high—and The Lost Fire really delivered. I ordered the bone-in ribeye, my wife had the long short rib, and both were absolutely outstanding. Honestly, the steak was so good that we barely touched the sides. But I will mention that we had garlic mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Both were tasty, but mostly untouched.
Celebrated my husband’s birthday dinner at The Lost Fire this evening. The restaurant is definitely a hidden gem the food is amazing. The ambience is Special! Excellent customer service. The entrees are reasonably priced and portions are generous. Great selection of wines and cocktails. Will definitely be returning with family and friends. Delicious robust coffee ☕️
We had an unforgettable dinner at The Lost Fire Grill & Bar in Kennebunkport. This place brings authentic Argentine grilling to Maine with its open-flame cooking over wood and coals. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a rustic yet modern vibe that makes you feel like you're dining in Patagonia. I ordered the bacon-wrapped ribeye, and it was hands down the best ribeye I've ever had. Cooked to perfection, juicy, and packed with flavor. The staff was incredibly accommodating, squeezing us in as walk-ins on a busy Friday night, which we really appreciated. If you're in the area and love great steak, don't miss this place. It's a true gem that offers a unique dining experience you won't find anywhere else. I would travel from Florida just to go here again!
This place is amazing! If you want to enjoy atmosphere, phenomenal interior design with great food and staff- you have to come here and enjoy. Loved this place and wish it was closer to me 😆
My husband and I love coming here. The service is always outstanding and the food is even better. Do yourself a favor and find this somewhat out of the way delight. It is a little pricey but definitely well worth it.
I visited last night with some family and I cannot stop thinking about it! It was one of those restaurant experiences that you do not get very often anymore. The food, atmosphere & service were all 10/10. We sat outside in the patio and it was adorable! The vibes of the patio are perfect with a crackling fire place & bistro lights above you. Our waitress, Jessie, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and very nice. You can tell she loves her job and was willing to give us all of her suggestions. We received complimentary homemade focaccia with dipping sauces then we ordered the brussel sprouts, yucca fries & empanadas to start. All were great but the empanadas are a MUST. The brussel sprouts were also cooked perfectly. Then we ordered steaks and the burger for dinner with sides including broccolini and mashed potatoes. We then finished the meal off with a trio sampler of gelato and the bread pudding. The bread pudding was incredible. It’s not often you can go to a restaurant and like absolutely everything you eat. Highly highly recommend this place when visiting Kennebunkport! We will be back for sure.
I will start by saying this, I’m not one to write a review unless I had the worst possible experience or an outstanding experience at a business. I’ve written very few reviews in my life but the experience my wife and I had at The Lost Fire in Kennebunkport exceeded every expectation imaginable. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by the host and hostess, walking to our table taking in the dark but romantic ambiance, all senses were heightened. The view, the smell of wood fired food, the anticipation of the experience, it was all unreal. We were seated and quickly greeted by the best server I’ve ever had in my life. Jennifer was kind, charismatic, extremely knowledgeable and had a passion for her work. She made some great recommendations and they did not disappoint. We started with drinks from the bar, me - a maple old fashioned, and my wife an extra dirty grey goose martini with stuffed olives. Our meals were amazing. We have eaten all across the world at some of the finest restaurants and the 10oz filet mignon that grill master German prepared for me was cooked perfectly. The Chimichurri sauce served with it was the perfect touch, although not remotely necessary. I also had their twice fried French fries. My wife had a tuna, rare with a side of creamed spinach. And for my birthday dessert we split an incredible bread pudding. I cannot recommend this entire dining experience enough. It will be our special place to come for any celebratory dinner, even living almost an hour and a half away. Thank you to everyone at The Lost Fire, especially Jennifer and German for taking exceptional care of us! 10/10!!!!!
What an excellent way to end the day. We walked in no reservations around 5-6pm, they were able to seat us right away. Staff was extremely friendly. We ordered the Australian Wagyu tomahawk steak. I made a request to see the marbling, which they had no problem displaying the steak for us. A little different than Japanese Wagyu, but still had an excellent presentation. The steak was cooked to perfection (rare). The added season salt was a great way to top of this meat that seemed to melt in your mouth. I normally use a steak knife with a heavy tang, but to my surprise, these French style steak knives cut the meat like butter. We started off with the Brussel sprouts (which I normally do not care for), but let me just say they were absolutely amazing!! Top off with what seemed to be a mayonnaise base sauce that was an excellent match. I wish I had gotten our waitresses' names. She was very attentive, our drinks were always full, very informative with the entire menu, and had a very positive vibe about her. To be honest, we weren't dressed to go to a nice steak house, we just drove in from Bar Harbor, basically jeans and a t-shirt. That didn't sway them from giving us excellent service. I would highly recommend this place if you want an excellent steak. Thank you to all the employees at Lost Fire that served us an excellent meal with excellent service
Tried this place for the first time and it was fantastic! Everything from the atmosphere to the waitstaff to the food was just stellar. Everything came out timed perfectly (I hate when a restaurant serves appetizers and main entree at basically the same time) which is a big deal to me. We'll def be back!
Simply amazing! The best service at the bar. All the bartenders were great and very attentive. Empanadas are a MUST! We can't wait to come back during our next trip.
It's definitely one of the best steakhouses I've been to. I would put them in the same category and quality of Peter Lugers, Ruth Chris, and other famous steakhouses. If you are a steak lover, then this is a must go. By the way, the mushroom 🍄 side is absolutely out of this world.
The Lost Fire offers a welcoming and intimate atmosphere that makes for a great dining experience. The food was excellent from start to finish. We started with the empanadas and meatballs, both of which were perfect. My wife, who is a chef and regularly makes meatballs, admitted these were better than hers, which says a lot. For our main courses, we had the TLF Burger with fries and the two-inch-thick New York Steak from the meat cellar. The burger was well-prepared, and the steak was exceptional. The seasoning was spot on. While the center was closer to rare, the rest was cooked to a perfect medium rare, which I had requested. Overall, it was still top-notch. It was easily close to two pounds or more, so anyone ordering from the meat cellar should come hungry. The mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were also well-executed and complemented the steak nicely. For dessert, we had the special, which was a scratch-made brownie with ice cream. Even though we were already full, we could not stop eating it. The vanilla bean flavor in the ice cream really stood out and made for the perfect finish to the meal. The service was great from start to finish. The host, server, and what I assume was the floor manager who checked in toward the end of our meal were all personable and attentive. Everyone made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Overall, The Lost Fire delivered on every front with quality food, great service, and a warm atmosphere. I would definitely return.
I've been here twice now, and it has now become my favorite place. The atmosphere here is wonderful. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. The food so far is the best I've had, I mean that. The ribeye was very flavorful, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The wings that are occasionally on special, straight fire. The chef, you can tell through the food, has real talent, and a passion for what they do. I will be back!
Our first time going to this place. I had the best tasting steak I've had in a long time! Garret our server was very personable and informative about the menu. Only odd thing was the online booking didn't work out, we weren't the only ones who had an issue with the online booking, but we were able to get a table for 2 still. Awesome experience overall!
The dinner was delightful and Chris/Kris who was our server was the kindest person I’ve ever met, what a lovely place to stop on vacation from California.
Great recommendation by several people in the know for a winter dinner in Kennybunkport. Our server explained each of the menu choices in great detail and wisely recommended we share the NY strip when we told her of my husband's small appetite. Decor is very romantic, drinks were fabulous, and both sides, the garlic mashed potato and broccolini were excellent. So glad we choose to dine at the Lost Fire!
This place has a great menu and everything we had was perfect. I'm a foodie and love to eat and experiment with all types of food. The food here is excellent. Everything we tried was on point. And the service was fantastic. Not only did they tend to every need, but they were very knowledgeable, energetic and happy. We love the vibe of the staff. They also have a separate outdoor dining area near a big fire pit with aling side an outdoor bar. Great for parties or just to enjoy a summer night out.
The atmosphere was great. The food was perfect. The service was also great. I recommend it and we'll be back.
One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Phenomenal food, fantastic service by a server that's been with the chef for years (sorry I am blanking on her name atm). Excellent wine choices and pairings along with delicious cocktails. I plan to come back here every time I go back to Maine and hope to someday work there for a little bit.
Awesome experience. Great atmosphere, food, and cocktails. We went at 5p on a Sunday evening and were lucky to be seated without a reservation. We shared the mixed grill for two, a couple of dirty vodka martinis, an old fashioned and a glass of Malbec, all were excellent. Reservations highly recommended.
The outdoor space is stunning! Such a cool atmosphere. The food was incredible we tried, empanadas, grilled corn, burrata and the filet mignon. Our server Joe was very kind, knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommend
Exquisite, luscious food; expensive, some might say overpriced. This depends on your personal quality/quantity equilibrium. I will start with a negative mark. Some may consider this faux pas an egregious item, while to others it is of little consequence. We have been to Lost Fire four times for anniversaries; two were our anniversaries, and two for other couples. Each time there was no fan fair beyond a spoken "Happy anniversary." What a contrast with a comparable restaurant such as Earth on Hidden Pond, where each time complimentary Champagne, free appetizer, and special anniversary dessert was presented. We will continue to patronize Lost Fire, but not on any special celebration. I maintain a 5 star rating as this may be of little to no significance to some clients. Handicap parking allows enough space for wheelchair egress from a van. This is a welcomed surprise for a restaurant parking lot. Usually the spaces are carved to allow maximum numbers. The dining space is conducive for any mood. Do you want privacy? There are private rooms and big, comfortable booths. Are you in the mood for excitement or to watch your team in a playoff berth? You'll want to be seated in the bar area. You will be happy with the meat, poultry, or fish selection. Lost Fire is Argentina asados. The chefs are proficient in all food domains. The vegetables are perfectly cooked and seasoned. You will not find yourself reaching for the salt and pepper shakers. Some may consider the food over salted. This is real asados. Salt is used to bring out the meats natural flavoring, which they do exquisitely. I would have enjoyed eating chipas or chimichurri bread. Brioche bread is used, which evokes France, a culinary world away, and I believe a poor substitute for their authentic asados. A note to the bar tender. Your cocktail labeled as an Old Fashioned is missing one main ingredient. Both Old Fashioned and Manhattan cocktails use bourbon/rye, bitters, and sweetener. The difference is the sweetener: Manhattan=Sweet Vermouth; Old Fashioned=sugar. For pricing comparable to Boston, I would expect rye, and a sugar cube muddled with the bitters. You got the tumbler glass and garnish correct. When you get the paleo-carnivore craving, think authentic asados, think The Lost Fire.
The food was definitely prepared very well. My steak was cooked perfectly rare and was delicious. The bread pudding dessert was also really good. But most of all the service from our server Andrew was excellent! He was on top of everything and made sure the desert did not have nuts in it as I am allergic.
Hands down the best meal I’ve ever had. We go every once in a while, but wish we could go more often! Regardless, it is such a treat! Highly recommend the Filet, or the Long Short Rib, but do yourself a favor and save room for the best bread pudding you’ll ever have! Also— they have house-made Limoncello. It’s not on the menu, so be sure to ask for it!!!
First off the staff was some of the nicest and full of information I have seen in a while. Food was top notch. This will be my yearly treat place. Best steak around for me. Beet salad was probably they best i have had.
We just hosted our son's rehearsal Dinner at Lost Fire Grill, and the experience was exceptional. The planning was simple and the communication excellent. The food, served family-style and beautifully presented, was fantastic! Tres Leches cake was a big hit, and the short rib and salad were favorites, as well. The staff was attentive and professional and Sarah made this event so easy- perfect for a busy wedding weekend! The decor and vibe of our private area was perfect for this event.
This place is a fun dinner date night if you’re visiting Portland. Cozy up outside under the lights! Steaks and apps are amazing. We loved driving the winding roads that landed us here on a beautiful Maine summer evening.
I heard ravings about the lost fire for months. I made a reservation to treat my mom and it was the best of the best. We have never had such a great experience at a restaurant. Our server Alyssa was phenomenal, the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was so warm. The best steak house I’ve ever been to, not one bad thing to say!
The Lost Fire has definitely found new patrons. This place is 🔥. It was completely booked for a reason. The steaks were outstanding and the staff All around truly were amazing. Noticeably they have a great comraderie. So friendly and courteous. The chef truly know how to cook. Kudos to you chef. Thank you Jennifer and Kendall, our amazing waitresses. Hoping to visit Maine again from New York next year. Will definitely stop in.
I have no idea why this place has negative reviews. Everything we ate was delicious! We tried the brussel sprout appetizer, empanadas, skirt steak (my fav of the night), short rib and tres leches! Our waiter was great and attentive and service was FAST, which was great for having a toddler with us.
The empanadas were flaky and flavorful, the special foie gras/ squash sausage was excellent as well. The 16 oz boneless rib eye prepared rare was delicious with a great sear on the top. The Granny Smith apple tart with pumpkin spice caramel completed the meal! Great drinks and excellent service.
We celebrated my mother’s birthday at The Lost Fire last night, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, lively, and perfect for a special occasion, upscale without being stuffy. I ordered the mixed grill for two, and it was outstanding. The meats were cooked perfectly, beautifully seasoned, and served hot off the grill with that incredible wood-fire flavor you can’t fake. Every cut was tender and flavorful, and it was more than enough to share. It felt like an experience, not just a meal. The service was attentive and genuinely welcoming, Matthew made my mom feel celebrated without making it over-the-top. Timing was spot on, drinks were great, and the whole night flowed effortlessly. If you’re in Kennebunkport and looking for a place that delivers both quality and atmosphere…whether it’s a date night, family celebration, or just a serious steak craving or flourless chocolate cake this is it. We’ll absolutely be back. ++++++++++++++
A++, my wife and I celebrated our anniversary in Kennebunkport and decided to try The Lost Fire. Literally everything was phenomenal. We started with tbe Argentinian meatballs and a garden salad, then filet mignon with the garlic mashed and finished with the bread pudding. Andy our waiter was equally awesome. This was hands down our best restaurant experience ever.
Spectacular food and service (Matthew is terrific). Steaks and short ribs are the best around. Unfortunately the booth next to us was chaotic with children and infants screaming and crying while the parents nor management did anything to mitigate this shameful behavior. We expect better after spending $250 per couple and most likely will not be returning.
The food is great! Steaks, fish, tres leches cake was sooo good. Something weird happened though, our waiter said we were being too loud and closed the door of this nook we were in, so that we were sectioned away from the rest of the restaurant. I’ve never had that happen before, the restaurant itself is very lively with music too. We also weren’t drinking or getting rowdy, we were at a dinner with our parents. Not sure why that happened, but I would go back for the food! Maybe this is a restaurant where you have to talk at a lower volume
Lots of hype about this restaurant, so we decided to try it.. First our waitress was excellent , the atmosphere was wonderful, the food was ok.... My salmon was just basic. The Yucca potatoes were definitely delicious . My grandson had the filet and said it was delicious, my husband had a TBone but it didn't have any filet, it was cut off... We were not happy but it was a celebration for our grandson so we decided not to complain and ruin his evening... I wouldn't go back for the expense of it and because the filet was missing ... What's the Maine saying? been there done that... lol...
My husband and I love the ambiance and decor. He loved his filet mignon which was cooked to perfection as well as the brussels sprouts special. My t-bone was a total miss! It was an odd cut that cheaped out on the filet side, was full of fat and was "blue" vs medium rare which is how I ordered it. Adding insult to injury was that there was a fly harassing me during dinner (we were indoors!) and it landed on my steak, so after that I was done. The manager did take my steak off the bill. I was disappointed that the creamed spinach comes covered with melted cheese which wasn't mentioned on the menu. The mashed potatoes were good. Something odd is that they said they are unable to serve their house salad before your meal, it has to come out with it?! Despite the misses, we want to give them another try since there is promise (I want to try their skirt steak!) and my husband's meal was five stars. The manager, Nathan, also made a point to speak with us. Our server, David, was very nice.
I’m sure you are wondering why my star reviews are all over the place. Well, the building and atmosphere was sexy and rustic at the same time, so I was excited when walking in. We didn’t plan enough to get a table therefore our reservations were at the bar. Our first bar-server/tender was attentive and nice. I was anxiously awaiting my 18oz Rib Eye and creamed spinach especially after the burrata was so good. The steak came first and at first was tender and delicious. But not sure if I needed a better knife or the steak was too tough but 4 bites in I was struggling. My husband ordered the pork chop, which was huge and good until it cooled down and became very dry. The mashed potatoes were yummy however! But the BIG disappointment was the creamed spinach that was so over salted, I probably should have checked my blood pressure. The bar-server/tender we initially had went off to make drinks and we were stuck with the one who decided that we were awful because we sent back the creamed spinach. Even though we made friends with each couple beside us. We didn’t order dessert so I cannot comment there.
I took my youngest son here for his birthday because he really likes steak. Food was good, but nothing exceptional especially for the price. The thing that really affected my opinion was that we bought a burger to bring home to my other son who was sick. He was halfway through eating his burger when he found two sizable bone shards. My wife called the restaurant and they left us a message saying sorry that’s not up to their quality standards. However, no mention that we paid money for Inedible food. Definitely will not be going back to this place.
We arrived for our reservations and were told our two parties couldn’t sit together despite their being 2 tables open next to each other. We were advised to sit together we would have to pay $155 per person. Once seated, I ordered a fillet rare. It was a little over cooked and lacked any seasoning. It was basically just a regular steak. Also ordered 1 gelato since we were advised it was 3 scoops. As you can see from the picture, it was certainly less than. Expected a lot more based on the website and sadly lacked all expectations. Look elsewhere. To follow up on the response from lost fire: I understand we couldn’t be guaranteed to sit together, but the tables in the picture that are empty were not reserved. You just tried to make a point of not accommodating us which is what really turned us off. How do you explain “3 scoops” of ice cream in the provided picture? Like I said, definitely not worth the money.
Arranged for a milestone birthday dinner here for over 10 people. Food was mediocre, ambiance was lackluster, and service was shocking from start to finish for what turned out to be a $2K affair. We faced an alarming range of issues over the evening, but the highlights were: 30-40 min to get additional drinks, lukewarm and bland food with poor timing between courses, guests and their children treating the Luca Patio like a playground throughout the meal with no intervention from staff, and my card being overcharged $500–which the team insisted on handling loudly in front of all of my guests. I’ll also note that despite needing to work through one of their event coordinators for parties of 9+, they do nothing to make the dinner feel like a special event—no special touches on the table, no exclusive dining area, just lots of hefty fees. When prompted for my feedback after the meal, I took time to give it, and the GM’s resolution was a $100 credit after a lengthy and unprofessional back and forth. This restaurant has unfortunately lost its way and is a far cry from fine dining. There are so many more innovative and service-oriented restaurants in the area that you should support if you’re celebrating a special occasion.
