No food but went with friends. Everyone took to the stage and we're singing into the night. Lots of fun and friendly people.
Food and service make this a great stop. Food is freshly prepared and served with a smile. The cheesecake is a must try!!!
Overall good! The bratwurst was not great, but the schnitzel was was very good.
One of the best meals I've had in a small town. The shnitzel sandwich was perfect and the sides were delicious. Staff was kind and accommodating. Excellent experience.
Hands down the BEST German food around! 🇩🇪 😋 We frequent the 45 minute drive from Killeen to Lampasas and it is so worth it! We love their Friday night specials, especially the Poblano Schnitzel, but their entire menu is yummy! The bratwurst with onions and gravy is crazy good! And the dinner salad has an amazing dressing you could drink from a bottle. We enjoy the owners Steve and Eve & the service is always great and the beer is cold! You will be full, so take a piece of cheesecake, chocolate pie or strudel to go!!
Great little family owned German restaurant. Homemade dill dressing was fantastic, some of the best brats I have had.
We came here for my 65th Birthday dinner. I was a bit leery because the last time I was here (with one of their regular customers a couple of years ago) the Bratwurst wasn't that good and I was treated like I was crazy because I only wanted a Brat and a bun. I'm a Gastric Bypass patient and sometimes I get tired of having to explain my food needs or choices. This time, when I asked if I could have the childrens wienerschnitzel I was treated kindly and she explained to me that she was not allowed to sell a child's portion to anyone over the age of 12 and that the portion's really weren't that much smaller, which is what I was after. The lemonade was excellent and came just a few minutes before the salads. I love that they have an option to the red cabbage because neither my husband or I like it and we hate to waste food. The green beans.... I don't know how they were cooked but they were amazing!!! I usually hesitate to get green beans in a restaurant because unfortunately Texans/Southerners love to cook their green beans with bacon products which to me just makes them greasy and masks the green bean taste. We both got the wienerschnitzel and it came with the mushroom gravy on the side which was great for me!! I eat very slowly and gravy covered food is just not my favorite. He got the fries which were good and I got the Spatzel (sp) which was so good I was sorry I didn't get the cheese ones! When the young lady sat the food down she told me that she had them cut it a little smaller for me and I was really appreciative. She was such a sweetheart and gave us such wonderful and attentive service that we stopped and told the owners husband (who was making the rounds) what good service we had gotten and how wonderful the food was. I found out later on that the young lady, I believe, was his granddaughter. It's always nice to see family working family restaurants because they're the ones that care the most and it showed. I had so much food left over as you can see from the picture that I had lunch and dinner from it the next day! We will most definitely be back and soon!
This tucked in Cafe is one of the best kept secrets in Texas. Everything from the amazing service to the mouthwatering food was a stellar experience! The desserts made you wish you had worn your elastic waistband pants!!! We traveled almost 200 miles and picked this lovely little Cafe by chance. The hot red cabbage made you want to just live in the kitchen! Our server picked my meal because I couldn't decide and I am glad I handed over the reins to let him choose!! The Almond Roca cheesecake .seriously could change your life!!!! Everything we had was an amazing experience and made us full and happy!! Go there and see for yourself! You'll definitely be glad that you did!!!
Wonderful German food. Great service. The sausage & bratwurst ACTUALLY tastes like the bratwurst in Germany. I suspect they make it themselves. The sauerkraut taste and looks like it's made there as well. And to whoever makes their cheesecakes? Wow, GREAT job. Tiramisu, Mocha... unique flavors along with the traditional cheesecake flavors. Not cheap, but not expensive either. A good price for what you do get! Worth a visit!
My wife and I sat down at Eve's today and enjoyed every minute of it!!! The food was great and the staff was very helpful and pleasant!! Oh my Lord the food was good!! My wife had the mushroom and bacon covered schnitzel with green beans and spatzle (Bauern schnitzel). I enjoyed the Rohn schnitzel which had ham and cheese on top with a wonderful mushroom gravy, french fries, and cabbage. As we were leaving I discovered they had beer on tap!! We will be back it was so delicious!!!
Been coming here for a few years and it’s the best German food that we have close by for my family. I do miss the Chipotle Brisket sandwich but there are many other mouthwatering delicious entrees to choose from. And don’t forget to grab a refreshing Hefeweizen and a slice of the amazing cheese cakes that they offer as well.
Great food. The staff was very sweet. If you come here make sure to make reservations as they are pretty well known for there german food and beer the wait May be a while. They have a cute little shop and gallery next store you can kill time in. They also offer beer and wine while you wait on the front patio for your table. Talked with a few locals and people from other areas it felt very much like home.
One of the best German restaurants in the area.I wish they had home fries though I am glad they have spaetzle. The place is always busy and they started taking reservations now.Which makes it difficult because it's very small amout of tables available.. i always thought they should buy one of the businesses beside them and expand to include like a party room or reservations for bigger groups.
Recommend Surprised by this local German diner! If you're traveling, a much better place to eat than a chain restaurant.
German food at its finest. If you want authentic German, you can't pass this place up. We sure to give yourself plenty of time because it is all made fresh. The hot potato salad could have been served to us on the largest plate they had and we would have wanted seconds! If you want good German food, stop off here.
Off the main street in a row of quaint store fronts this little place can be found. The swiss/mushroom burger was not your prefab burger. Very flavorful! The schnitzel, ham & cheese sandwich was also very good but even better, ditch the mayo & add the german mustard. Very reasonable prices & our waitress was super friendly. Definitely worth a revisit again
Good food. Filling! Awesome staff. Just wish they had the nutritional data for each meal. It would help those that are calorie concious. Nevertheless great place.
Eve’s Cafe in Lampasas has authentic German food. It was great!! I ordered the American schnitzel sandwich which was a good choice if I do say so myself. Get it with Spatzle noodles instead of the fries, you won’t regret it. Also, save room for dessert because there are lots of cheesecakes. Thanks Eve’s!!
We were passing through Lampasas and decided to stop. Came across Eve's Cafe. The four of us had coffee and cakes. The coffee was good the Cream Pie was lovely, but Cheese cake was amazing....best I've ever had. I will be sure to call again if we're passing that way again.
The food was great. The strawberry chocolate cheesecake was the absolute best and the staff were awesomely awesome! I’ll definitely be coming back asap!
Just had lunch at Eve’s today. It was just as good as ever! Walked right in and sat down. Service was friendly. We had three different types schnitzel and all were excellent. Spaetzel , red cabbage and German potato salad were authentic German. We were all full, so we got desserts to go. Cheesecakes & Black Forest cake. Can’t go wrong! We stop in when traveling through town.
Sehr gut! I've been to plenty of German restaurants, including the Hofbrauhaus in Berlin, and this is pretty authentic. The bratwurst was thick, juicy, and scrumptious. The schnitzel was crisp, fresh, and moist. The fries had character, and the cheesecake is fabulous. Pleasant homestyle atmosphere with kind service. The dark beer was rich and absolutely delicious. Cheers 🍻
The atmosphere was quaint. The service was friendly and they were very accommodating. It was a packed house which was a very good sign. We waited for 20 minutes to be seated. The small kitchen stayed hopping constantly with zero down time. We got our food in a little over an hour after we arrived. It was definitely worth the wait and I would definitely go back. Be sure to get the spaetzel, schnitzel with Rahm gravy, and red cabbage. Skip the cucumber salad. Don’t forget to get a slice of the homemade cheesecake. It was the perfect finish to the meal. Because it took them so long, the cheesecake was on the house. That was a pleasant surprise! Pick a night when you are not in a rush so you can fully enjoy the experience..they also had a wide variety of beers which I would have tried if I didn’t have a 2.5 hour drive ahead of me... From start to finish, we left after two hours.. I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed…5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Worth the stop!! We visited on a Saturday for lunch and had a great experience! We were seated immediately. The atmosphere was very welcoming. We ordered Weiner Schnitzel with Spaetzel and onion rings. The schnitzel was perfectly crispy and had great flavor. The onion rings were great!! We also ordered Currywurst. The bratwurst was fantastic and fresh!! One of the employees had just made them in house. The curry ketchup was awesome! We drove from over an hour away and would totally visit again.
Wonderful small town restaurant with the big taste of Germany. We enjoyed the hot ham and cheese sandwich with chips and the Ruben was large enough for 2 to share. Cold beer or hot coffee was thirst quenching. Bratwurst was delicious. Ryan and Ashley were so attentive to our needs and served us quickly and with a smile. Will definitely be back next time we pass this way.
I've never tried a German restaurant, but my co-worker and waitress guided me in all the right directions. Couldn't complain about the food or people. Haven't been so relaxed at a restaurant out of town in awhile. Hopefully get a chance to stop by and eat there again.
The desserts were the best I’ve ever had. We spend close to 50K a year being foodies at all types of restaurants and when I say the Black Forest and the strawberry chocolate cheesecake was “the best I’ve ever had” I mean it! Wished I would have taken a picture. Definitely stopping again! Burger was great, salad was so fresh and fries with cheese thingy app was A+. Great little find! We went on a Thursday night and we were seated immediately, food was served under 10 minutes! Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great advice. We all loved our meals. The cucumber salad was different than what we are used to but was still good. I loved that they still had hot coffee at 8pm!! I’m not huge on German food but loved my sauerkraut and bratwurst!
What a delightful little German cafe. We were heading from Lake LBJ to Buffalo, TX and stopped in for dinner. There were quite a few people there but still a couple of open tables. We sat down and were quickly greeted and got several recommendations from the menu. We decided to try the Wiener Schnitzel and the sausage. Man this was really good. We liked everything and even tried some house made cheese cake which was delicious too. If you’re heading through Lampasas sometime definitely give Eve’s a try.
Phenomenal Revival from the original restaurant! They kept a majority of the original recipes, and improved on some. The new and improved schnitzels have a fantastic new crunchy breading and tenderness. Atmosphere was updated to be a little more modern, but they kept some of the old German style decor up. It felt very clean. Staff was attentive and talkative, and knew answers to many of the questions we had about the menu and history of the restaurant. Desserts are all still homemade. My favorite part was the Rahm gravy; They claim it's the same recipe, but it's fantastic!!
We stopped here for lunch after an appointment in town. The place was clean and the staff was welcoming. He had the Weinerschnitzel and I had the Reuben. Hands down, I'd be willing to drive 25 minutes to get another Reuben. IMO, they have the best one around. The sauerkraut was so good too. The SO cleaned his plate so I'm guessing there were no complaints there, lol. They do have a selection of desserts as well, but we were simply too full.
If you ever find yourself in Lampasas, you absolutely need to stop by Eve's Cafe. This little café has such a wonderful story behind it. The original owner built something truly special here, creating a place known for incredible food, warm hospitality, and authentic recipes that quickly made it a local favorite. The new owners have done an amazing job honoring that legacy while taking everything to the next level. The quality of the food is outstanding, the service is friendly and welcoming, and you can tell there is real pride in every dish that comes out of the kitchen. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. Whether you’re a local or just passing through the Texas Hill Country, Eve’s Café is absolutely worth the stop. I can’t wait to go back!
Great place to stop by. Staple german food. Fair price. Good service. We're here for lunch. Glad that we stopped here. The only regret that there was no black forest left. Oh well, next time then!
Unique, delicious, bustling restaurant with a friendly staff serving German inspired dishes. We had bratwurst, Spätzle, red cabbage and cheese cake. We were told it was voted one of the top German restaurants in the US - or was it Texas, or the county? Whatever the case, it is sehr gut!
Disappointed. It's been years since we dined at Eve's and didn't realize it had changed owners. While the new owners have bought the recipes, the presentation and quality of the food has suffered. It took way too long to serve lunch (30 minutes). One of our dishes sat under the heat lamp for several minutes, and while we were worried it would be cold, when it was served, it was burnt. While they did not charge us for the poor food, which is why I give them 4 stars, the place just doesn't feel the same. Sorry to be critical of a business, but some changes are needed.
When my family travels, we always look for local restaurants instead of the chain restaurants. We found Eve’s cafe as my wife is half German and she is always on the hunt for good German food. The restaurant is quaint, very well maintained and a friendly staff that greet everyone who walks through the door. After looking over the menu we decided on two schnitzel plates and a kids hotdog for my daughters. There were 5 unoccupied tables when we arrived and placed our order. Within that time those 5 tables were filled with customers that somehow received their food before my family was served. Most of the families ate and left before we received my food. At that point, it seems that my skin color may have played a part in my family receiving our food almost 40 minutes after we were seated. I try not to think that way, but given that several people ordered schnitzel and received their schnitzel orders before ours. I have no other conclusion than being the only person of color in the restaurant played a role in slow service. Which is a shame! The food was stupendous! I dang near ate my plate of schnitzel! The red pepper gravy was great. The spaetzle was homemade and so pillowy soft. Green beans were canned, but dolled up enough to be good as well. My wife and daughter ate every bit of their schnitzel as well. Great grill marks and bun for my daughter’s hotdog. Despite the service, I will eat there again.
German restaurant without the German music. This would add to atmosphere. Food not as tasty as before. I think we just hit a down day. Spatzel seemed overcooked or just warmed up. Love their cheese cakes(beware sometimes frozen and need to take with you).
Interesting German dining experience — the food tasted fresh and cleanly fried, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The salad, however, was a little overdressed.
Placed a pick up order the gentleman on the phone was super friendly and let me know that my food will be ready in 30min I ordered the gobbler hot with a side of french fries and some tiramisu well 30min later I go inside let the gal at the cash register know that I have a pick up order she looked tired or like she didn’t want to be there and I couldn’t really hear her and if you ever have dined in at eves you know it gets pretty loud in there when they are busy I got my bag with my food and I thought “hmm this seems light” but I ignore it cause I am starving so when I get home I notice that my tiramisu is not in my bag so frustrated and annoyed I drive back and go inside and the gal that took my payment earlier told the other servers standing up at the cash register that I already had picked up my food and I proceeded to tell them that there was no tiramisu in my bag and then the gentleman hands me a box with my name on the top PLEASE PLEASE COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER!! I love eves the food is always sooo good but sometimes the service is not up to par..
I was there about 2 pm on a Friday, do it was pretty quiet. However, I had to remind them to give me a menu after waiting a bit. All of the schnitzel choices were ham instead of the usual pork or veal. The mushroom gravy was just okay. I loved physical restaurant itself, the location (on the square), and the service was great after I got the menu.
I am a bit bias with this review...my mom's name is Eve and she cooked great German food. But Eve's Cafe in Lampasas, TX is amazing. If you want good authentic German food at a good price, try Eve's Cafe. The drive from Austin is very scenic, and Lampasas is such a nice small town to visit. Eve's Cafe has mainly Bratwurst and Schnitzel...with cold beer of course. Food is great, staff is friendly, inside is quaint and charming, bathrooms are clean. Highly recommended if your visiting Lampasas.
We waited at the door for a little while but for every good reason. They were packed which is always a good sign and an excellent preview of what’s to come. We have not been since the change in ownership. I believe that I would have rated food higher if I didn’t have that initial experience under the original owner. The schnitzel was delicious but the mushroom gravy and red cabbage were just not “it”. I am appreciative of the restoration of a delightful eatery so close to home and keeping true to the atmosphere of its beginnings. I’m sure it’ll keep getting better as time passes.
The website is very misleading. It says you need to make a reservation so I call and was told no need. Website portrays it as an upscale dining experience with a bar, it is far from that and has no bar, no liquor, but does have beer. The dining room is like an old town Cafe, has one server, about 10 tables and one cook. The German potato salad was cold and could not taste any vinegar, onion or bacon, itt was inedible. The schnitzel was huge and could be ordered any way wanted, but besides that, the other choices were sandwiches and a big dessert list.
Loved the cozy atmosphere of the location. Nearly every table was taken. I had the westphalian sandwich. It seemed a little dry. The cheesecake looked good but it was nearly as expensive as my sandwich so I opted out. The food was good but not good enough that I would bring my out-of-town relatives or friends.
Extremely disappointed. I had heard about the food, and the fact that they had a lot of German dishes here. However, my sister and brother in law ordered the spaetzle and the schnitzel and I ordered a cheeseburger and onion rings. Just disappointed. Skip the onion rings were straight out of a bag you could tell and schnitzel was dry and the mushroom gravy was very off pudding. It didn’t taste good at all. Also, I would have to say that we ordered at 12:15 and did not have food until 125 so it was slow to get our food. I can’t blame that on the service however we had to keep asking is that our food in the window, is that our food in the window? Until we finally got told that’s not your food. There were people who came in after us that got breakfast and were already gone before we ever even got food. So to say that I was disappointed, however, I do believe in giving a Restaurant two opportunities to prove or show that they can do better so I will come back to this restaurant in the future at a different time to see if anything has changed. I’m sure, that given the right direction in the kitchen and another person in there to prep and get food ready. It would make the situation a lot better but as typical of every restaurant that I know of lately they’re shorthanded and they don’t have the money to pay for additional staff.
Honestly can’t give the place higher than three stars. But we ate there nov 1st. Food was a solid 3 three, the price to portion ratio is off, have eaten other German restaurants and, the schnitzel was far better at the other places. Not saying it was not good, but others places were better. The service was okay, but we only seen our waitress when we ordered, she brought the food, and cleaned the table and brought the bill. We had to flag her down to get a refill on our tea. Now the black Forrest cake was great. The atmosphere is okay, but cozy. The floors move when you walk. Tables and chairs could be updated a touch. Over all not a bad place, now just because I said these things does not mean don’t go there, every experience is different through others eyes. Or it could have been a bad day. Please try them, you could have a great time, and this experience was only one day out of the year that might have been bad.
Average restaurant for Texas. Suppose to be German food but they serve their own interpretation of it. It's not authentic at all. I was stationed in Germany for several years, I know German food. Their jager schnitzel is not anything close. Totally disappointed. Service was good. Restroom was clean. I can't recommend this establishment and I won't go back.
I was hoping for a better dining experience, but this place fell short. The entire staff seemed to be teenagers. They were all well behaved but lacked adult oversight. I had to check on the progress of our lunch special order after about 30 minutes. Once I asked our waitress to check in or order our food came to us in about 5 minutes minus an order of onion rings that were brought to us later. I suspect our order was never turned in and the waitress was not scanning her tables as a trained waitress should. It's been said that you only get one chance to make a first impression. In this case that's true...it's a bad impression and I won't return.
Food was horrible. Prices outrageous. Portions a joke. Premade frozen hamburger patties. Frozen onion rings. Absolutely terrible. A $6 German Side salad could have fit in a 8 oz cup. Beware this place.
We stopped there mid afternoon as we had heard about this restaurant for a while. We decided to get our food to go as the restaurant is small and my wife was using a mobile scooter. Ordered our food and had to wait 45 minutes for it to be prepared. This was extremely long to get it prepared as the restaurant was not that busy. Got home and opened the boxes . The schnitzel's were not cooked throughly, and breading had an old oil taste. The spaetzle and eggs was over cooked. All in all, the food was definitely not up to par to be considered as authentic German fair.
I come here with my husband, brother in law and sister in law for my husband’s birthday. 3 of the 4 meals arrived at the same time, with the exception being my sister in laws schnitzel salad. It arrived roughly 5 minutes after everyone else’s meal. Everyone else had Jagar Schnitzel. Everyone should have eaten at the same time. The biggest concern is that the chair I sat in was so greasy that it stained my dress in the butt area pretty bad.
