Very good chili. Tons of options for toppings for your meat! Great attentive service. Fair prices. Full bar. The Chili was very tasty and flavorful. My wife loved the sweet potato tater tots and the waffle fries were amazingly crispy. So good
The pictures say it all. I'd give it a 10. Warm jalapeño corn muffin melted into heaven in my mouth. server Brandon was top notch! I ordered the turkey chili with green beans base and lots of amazing ultra fresh toppings. My son ordered Midwest with rice and sautéed onions. Chow time no holding back for leftovers.
Cool place with some great chili. Good variety of alcohol.
What an awesome place. VERY romantic on a warm fall evening.
Finally had a chance to visit and it was really good. The create your own Chili was excellent and the poutine as an app...so much food but so good.
Some of the best Chili I have ever had. Highly recommend trying this place out if you are in the area or even if it is a little drive away.
Great breakfast. Pancakes moist enough you didn't need syrrup + the corn muffin/sausage gravy was tasty.
Tasty and wholesome food. Well run restaurant with an eclectic menu. Great place to have a drink as well..
Very cool venue with lots of options for chili. The portions were great too!
Great food served. Hot and delicious. The server is excellent and refills on drinks are plentiful
It was fun to craft my own chili and it was very good. Good beer selection and service too.
I'm addicted to the vegetarian chili fresh green beans on the bottom whatever Toppers you want and they make the best green chili grits I've ever ate
Good place to visit with friends and family. .offers good vegan and vegetarian options. Great staff and service
This place is delicious, I got the jalapeno cornbread and gravy and my friends got breakfast tacos and breakfast nachos. We were very full and happy after eating here and our server was so nice, it was an overall wonderful experience. Definitely recommend!
Awesome food - pick a ready-made or build your own chili and sandwiches. Most have at least a little kick so if you are spice challenged make sure and let your waiter know! For the rest of us, just make sure you've got a cold drink in hand :)
Amazing food with great vegan and vegeterian option. Not the cheapest but definitely worth the money for the amount of food. Great waiters and chill atmosphere. Check out the bathrooms for some odd decor. Also, very clean and well stocked bathrooms. Parking can be a pain but its Libertyville so not surprised.
If you are a football fan this place is great on Sundays because of the projection tv they have. The food is always great and the staff is so courteous every time we go over there. The bar is much more casual and the back of the restaurant is more formal so it's got a great ambiance for any occasion. It's well worth checking out.
Highly recommended. Why do people wait for 45-60 mins only to get in at Wildberry or Eggs Harbor? Chili U stands at the same level or even higher than big chains. Found my favorite breakfast place in Libertyville.
The waffles fries are to die for! Drink prices are pretty good here and in my experience a good value for the area. The décor is odd, but fun. And the staff is nice.
Always amazing food. Worth coming back to see what the chili of the month is. However the cheeseburger chili is fan tastic. The service is always stellar and staff is frendly and accomidating. Can't recommend this place enough.
Best chilli I have ever had. I go here on a Thursday night bike ride with a shop in Libertyville and I wish I could remember the waitresses name but she is awesome some of the other wait staff is ok and the manger is very nice and a few times we were there came and asked how we were doing.
Great Ambiance, The chili selection is quite flavorful and unique (Vegan chili is quite good). End the evening with their Fluffernutter bread pudding...amazing!
Delicious food. Id call it comfort food. Great vegetarian chili. The best shrimp poboy you will probably ever have. Excellent service.
Nice place, food was good, staff super friendly. Had a $9 bowel of chili and a draft beer. Tasty! I'll be back with family and friends!
Great chili, wide variety, creative options or more traditional chili. Mix and match base and toppings to suit your own palate.
Had a great dinner on Saturday night at Chili U. Not too crowded so we were able to get seated right away. We ordered the spiced sangria (made on site), Thai peanut sauce chicken wings, and make your own chili. Everything was very good, but the chicken wings were phenomenal! Sauce was so tasty and lots of good meat on the wings. This is definitely a great place to visit for a warm meal on a cold day.
Amazing food!! Prices were reasonable. Gluten free and Vegan options available. Cozy atmosphere. Don't sit under speaker if you don't want to shout at your guest. The volume was what I thought excessively loud for the crowd.
Love this place - it's consistently fab. Chili is not standard beef chili here. all the "chilis" are creative and delicious They have great sandwiches too and I so appreciate that a side salad is a standard option for fries. There entree salads are also good. And the atmosphere is classy casual.
Food was good and service was polite. Ordered African Chicken with fillings and sweet fry photo which was delicious.
I love the poutine, and the chili can definitely stand on its own. Great for a chili fix or drink at the bar.
A very eclectic menu that is very easy to navigate for common dietary restrictions. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are all clearly marked. I haven't explored as much of the menu as I'd like, but some of the highlights are the African Chicken Chili, the Poutine, and their Lobster Mac and Cheese. All very different, but each wonderfully done and delicious.
(Original Review from 3/25/19, 3 stars) I placed an order 15 minutes in advance, and then I walked in to pick it up. I stood there for 10 minutes waiting for the order. The employee didn't make the chili until I said "How much longer?" At this point, he had been talking with a co-worker, and hadn't started my order until I said that. He didn't even fill the box well. I ordered carryout for a picnic, and I had to ask for utensils. (Food was very good though, wood recommend, and later they did at least follow up in the same week) (Edited Review from 4/6/19, 4 stars) Great food, didn't have to wait much.
Great Chili for fair prices ~$10 per bowl. Definitely fills you up for dinner. You get to customize your Chili with different bases and toppings. Bar in the front for watching games, great atmosphere throughout the restaurant.
Food is outstanding! Wait staff, hostess and GM very good. Male floor manager rude w/no customer service skills. The night we were there, one hostess was off. 2 entrances (front & back) and only one was being monitored. Many people in line decided to leave b/c no one came by. Again, food is amazing!
I love the turkey chili here, and when we really want to let loose we will order poutine- it's delicious here. My favorite drink is the chiliu martini!
Great food, everything just took a while. No big deal though because I was having a good time regardless of the slow service. Awesome food and waiter was very kind, just slow
Chili U is a wonderful dining experience. We had a variety of interesting options to choose from. Which made for lasting memorable experiences. Definitely felt like a place you could bring a date or family and still feel comfortable. The staff was polite, and our food was accurate and serve top. It has kind of a Southwest style plus Bill and Joanna Gaines Style.
I would give it 4 stars but the night manager was the worst. She wouldn't even let us to Irish Car bombs for a birthday. Who doesn't let you do car bombs at a bar?
Great environment, cold beer, chili was different. Honestly never had rice in chili but it's worth the novelty stop to take a customer.
Let me start by saying that the service and decor of this restaurant are fantastic. Beyond that, the food fundamentally didn't taste good and was very much overpriced.
Ok so I loved Chili U when it first opened. They had a build your own chili menu with a ton of options. I also remember building my own chicken sandwich with a killer combo of toppings I don't even want to get into. Since then they have drastically pared down the menu. There are very specific custom options and my favorite chicken sandwich is no more. The quality and taste of the food remains outstanding. I wish they would bring back the custom options!
Chili U is essential to the Ville seen because they offer vegetarian and vegan options. Yes, there are meat dishes, but that Monday thing caught on, so... The food is decent. In general, portions are enormous and healthy but the quality is inconsistent. Good reviews for the chorizo egg rolls and veggie burger. Nice savory flavors. On the flipside, some food (burgers, fish tacos, select chilis) have been rather bland. Is this intentional? Making up for the food is the manager. This guy was terribly sweet and wants everyone to be satisfied. Afterthought, bathroom decor is oddly intriguing...
Chili University is going to take us to school on chili. They don't have a chili burger though, only on special occasions. They don't do standard chili as much as they do artistic spins on chili like shrimp chilli or African chicken chili. For standard chili it is a make your own affair. The menu is so eclectic I feel like this place doesn't really know what it wants to be.
Very friendly staff and beautiful decor. Unfortunately both meals we ordered were on the cold side, and was nothing really to write home about. The beef cubes in my meal was tough and not very tasty.
Honestly just a mediocre experience. We went on Friday night around 6:40. I ordered the Korean steak salad, and my mom ordered 3 sliders. Mine was fine, albeit there was way too much lettuce. But she ordered a quinoa mushroom slider, pulled pork slider and a beef slider. Her pulled pork slider was missing the salsa, and her beef slider had the wrong cheese. They made another beef slider for her, which took 20+ minutes, and they brought cole slaw instead of salsa. We honestly won’t be returning.
Great place to dine or have a few appetizers and drinks. Service was good and food is tasty. Never had a bad experience on my many visits.
Ordered kobe beef burger medium rare. They brought me one well done , sent it back to make another. When the second burger came 20 minutes later it was also well done. Sent it back and ordered something else. The manager took the burger off but still charged me for the second dish. Had to argue with him about not getting my meal comped after such bad service. I got manager to comp it, but after over cooking two kobe burgers this should have been a given.
Disappointed the main thing on the menu I am able to eat (vegan and gluten free chili) is very spicy hot. Why not have it be mild and let people add hot sauce? 😞
Went to try the poutine. Had some good reviews. Not impressed. The gravy was bland and did not help anything stand out. I love waffle fries separately and poutine. No meat and menu did not say so, fair enough. Staff was ok, being I'm the only one there at the bar and quite actually the only one in the restaurant trying to get attention into their conversation. I'm sorry make me feel more welcome when I'm the only patron in your restaurant establishment under no pressure and you talk to your manager. Couldn't ask, I'm the one making you money ! The bar tender was good but. I hunt poutine.
We just stopped into Chili U on a Tuesday night...only 2 other parties in the restaurant. We were totally ignored by the wait staff. They walked past us several times without even saying hello. After 10 minutes, we walked out. Then...the waiter looked at us in shock (and with a very poor attitude) , saying "you are walking out?". Calmly, I said, you could have at least acknowledged us, say hello or at least make eye contact. Won' be going back!
