While a BBQ sandwich most places goes for $7.50 each.. You can get a pound of excellent handchopped BBQ for $16.00 which makes 4 good sandwiches. I buy all my smokes and energy drinks there. The owners are warm and friendly, I just love them!

I’ll drive an hour just to have this places bbq! I love the couple that works this place They work so hard and are the sweetest! That just makes the food even better. I’ll come up to the counter like a hungry puppy dog and she’ll give me a taste of whatever she’s chopping up. Just great food and service all around! Try the ribs and brisket but if you only got 10 bucks 6 of that will get you a big yummy bbq sandwich with a can soda and chips!

Not sure what is up with the bad reviews here for this BBQ, but I stopped in for a chopped with onion and jalapeño to go and it was moist and flavorful, with just the right smoky taste I will be getting more

Gas prices are nothing to brag about, you can find cheaper gas elsewhere. However, when you need to gas up and you're in a lazy mood. They're a great place to gas up at.

There was enough meat for two potatoes, with plenty of butter, sour cream, & cheese. The meat has a nice smokey flavor, with the rub making such a good bark that I’ve got to try some burnt ends. She also had me sample a rib. Oh my….I could easily hurt myself eating too much at this place. And with what the prices are, it’d be easy to do. Their Chopped Sandwich is about $7. In Central Texas, it would easily cost you $13 for a sandwich close to this size & quality. If this place was in Austin, people would be lined up early in the morning to try it. Thank goodness it’s in Lillian. I can slide right on in whenever I’m in town. If you haven’t tried it, it is about an hour’s drive from Waco, and well worth the trip. Don’t expect fancy, though. Just expect it to be real good.

So 10 years ago this place was great and then a few years ago I think the ownership may have changed and it was pretty awful. I went last week and it’s great again. Something changed but it’s great again. I had a sliced beef sandwich and it was everything I remembered from 10 years ago. Good smoke ring and moist.

But I can say that it smells good and the service is always great the employees always are very helpful and have a welcoming smile on their faces. The Atmosphere is a true home town one stop shop fuel,food,necessities,lottery,tobacco etc. Very kind humble people to do business with. Nothing but pleasant experiences doing business here for many decades!!

Potato salad was good to the last bite and the charro beans were niiiiiice!! Going home to tell everyone about the hidden gem I found!! I'll be back sooner than later!!!

They were really tasty! My girlfriend got the 2 meat plate with ribs and sliced meat. Her sides were Potato Salad and Mac and Cheese. Our plates in total were basically $40. The plates were FAT! Couldn’t finish all my food. Now this is BBQ! Will be back again

The place has been around for a long time and yes its old, but that's part of the charm . The folks are nice people and work hard to make you happy . I go there once a week to get Ribs . They are great much better than anything you get in Mansfield . As for the person who found thing sold inside . You must be from California and thought the outside was faux .

Yes they are indian people that own it. Yes, they are nice hometown people . I have lived here in and around this area so i grew up eating the original casstevens , and remember taking fm 2738 when it was a gravel road and when 917 went through lillian. Ah good times and very good bbq...fast forward to now . i believe the place has caught some slack because of the ownership and the people who run it now. Please dont let that take away from the bbq experience and how the consistency of the bbq is still the same .the place needs a makeover yes it does, but a towner like me it brings back so many when i walk in and the Mesquite aroma over takes u . come in the morning and u see the old timers drinking coffee and reminiscing . i order a combo sandwich . comes with sliced brisket with or without the fat....of course i leave the fat on! As well as a can coke and chips for 5.99...not too bad...they also have gotten a new jalepeno and cheese sausage that has a signature taste of that around the houston area czech communities...very good ....i gave 4 stars because of the appearance of the place , but food wise ..its still beats anybody's bbq within 100 miles....

New management has really turned this place back around. It is not as good as the original but their sack lunch is tasty and priced right. Give it a shot.

They also are trying to keep up with the city stores by offering a "smoke shop" but it's all useless junk that takes up valuable real estate. Space is not utilized well at all.

I have always loved coming here since I was a kid. I asked a family member to come pickup some for me and ordered 2 lbs of sliced brisket that I could take out of town. When it arrived I have never been so disappointed and disgusted. The young boy who was behind the counter threw in mutilated chunks of meat not sliced and mostly inedible hard bark that I can't even eat much less take to a special event I needed it for. Really upset and really furious, I do not have money to waste. Honestly about to cry because what I had in mind is ruined

The lady is extremly rude. Every once n awhile she sweet but 98% of the time shes rude. When u get food it takes them forever to make it unless its already premade. They r overpriced and thier food really isnt even decent nenore. Have caught the gentleman snelling certain ingredients while preparing my food bc he wasnt sure if it was still gus, and i brought it home and fed my family and we all got sick. I was ordering food from them like 4 days a week and every time, 4 an entire 2 weeks straight the food made my family and myself sick. I try to no longer go there inless i absolutly have 2.

Since the change in ownership about 3-4 months ago, the BBQ has gone way downhill. Today's sliced beef was chunks and tough. We've gone here for 12 yrs and won't go back.

The BBQ is pretty good, if you can handle it being cut on a counter wiped down with (cold) dirty dishwater that hasn't been changed all day. They hate getting new gloves to handle each person's food. Oh, and the lady tried to sell my friend 5 day old sour cream, opened the lid and told her it was fine. It's got the Casstevens name, but not the Casstevens pride.

They don't know what they're doing, and they don't seem to be trying to learn. The flavor of the brisket is pretty good, so I keep giving it chances with the new people. I get a pound of sliced brisket every time go, and they cut it in whatever direction the knife hits it, and slices 3 or 4 inches thick. And today more than half of what I got was fat. The whole bottom section of the Styrofoam in the pictures is all fat. Paid just over $17. Update 8/20/24 Tried it again today. They still don't trim off the fat on the brisket at all. Got a pound today for just over $24, and there was a ton of fat. And they put the really hot meat right into the styrofoam, without any parchment paper, or anything. Probably the last time I'm trying this place. The brisket is still good, but not worth the price with all the fat.

I use to go here years ago. "Had" good BBQ. My experience this time? I should of just kept driving. The chopped BBQ sandwich tasted like it was in a crock pot for days. Was dry and believe she used a microwave to heat it up. 7.99 a sandwich. Never Again.
