Tokyo Restaurant is a local favorite known for its fresh sushi and delicious hibachi. Customers rave about the friendly staff, especially waitresses like Kayleigh, and the clean atmosphere. Some note inconsistencies in food quality and occasional service issues.
Tip: Consider carry out for a convenient experience. The food is well-packaged and labeled for easy enjoyment at home.
Atmoshpere is quiet and intimate. Best sushi in area. High quality cuts of seafood used. Love the house soup. Huge portions of tasty fried rice with hibachi dinners.
Have eaten here a couple of times now, staff is friendly and quick to please. Love the menu choices. Will be back soon!!
I've been coming here for 10 years and recently every weekend for lunch. Amazing food. Good prices. Great people.
In late May 2018, we ate at Tokyo Restaurant in Locust Grove and found the food and service to be excellent. We ordered Hibachi filet mignon, fried rice and vegetables, with clear soup. The food was tasty! We plan to return! Ichiban!
Best restaurant in the area. I've been eating here for years and never had a bad meal. The Hibachi is as good as the sushi.
We Absolutely Love Tokyo. Our meals are Delicious and Always freshly made. Hibachi chicken, shrimp tempura, and California rolls cannot be beat.
Wonderful food and wonderful service. My family and i have been coming here for years and have never left with an empty stomach or unsatisfied.
I LOOOOOVVEEEEEE this restaurant so much! It’s definitely the best in locust grove. Their food is always on point 🥵 10/10 would recommend to everyone.
One of the best places to eat around here always good and locally owned i believe i love the owner they are polite and run a great local business. Try the ccc roll one of my favorites!
Excellent hibachi and sushi. Lunch prices are really reasonable. Have been several times and will definitely be back.
Great food! We had sushi rolls and really enjoyed them. The hibachi looked good, but it’s quite expensive.
By far my favorite Hibachi restaurant. In my opinion the food is better than Osaka's and it's actually cheaper too. I absolutely love coming here and would highly recommend it.
Love love love tokyo ! The chicken hibachi and sweet potato rolls are amazing. Fast service and huge portions. We go almost once a week.
Always a great eating experience. My family's favorite local restaurant.
By far the best hibachi and fried rice in the area, sushi is killer too. My favorite restaurant around spotsy!
The food here is always awesome. We usually order a couple rolls a piece and then share. And then order hibachi to go.
Very good food, steak cooked EXACTLY how I asked it to be done, came out very fast and was able to get 2 hibachi lunches, one filet, one chicken with drinks and tip included for only thirty bucks.
My husband and I love this place, everything we’ve had is always very good. And the people are sweet. One of my favorite places to go
My wife and I love this place! Family owned, fantastic food, and we've never had a bad experience.
We absolutely love this place! The food is so good and you cant get fresher Sushi made to order
We have been all over the DC Metro area and in all of Virginia, and being avid sushi lovers along with two teenage kids who can be a bit picky, this restaurant is by far the best sushi place we have tried. The hibachi anything is outstanding, always hot and always cooked to order, never had an "oops" with any of our many visits. Lovely service and great sushi chef. Will be a loyal customer for as long as I can. :) Thanks Tokyo!
We love this place!!! The scallops are the best!!!!! Also they are such a wonderful hard-working young couple with a beautiful son. so they are a a small business that definitely deserves the recognition and support of the community. The product is top quality and fresh. the service is outstanding and the whole establishment is so clean. I've been going there since they've been open and I've never had one bad experience.
Best in Locust Grove, VA! All items are prepared to order and taste and quality is always exceptional. Has become our “go-to” for special family dinners and occasions.
Tokyo never disappoints. The best fresh sushi and hibachi meals in the area. Friendly staff who always answer any questions with great detail. Fast service and we love being able to get carryout. Favorites: Spicy crab roll Steak hibachi Yum yum sauce Fried rice
I went to Tokyo and the tall blonde waitress, I believe her name is Kassidy. She was very polite and attentive to my table when I went in for sushi with my wife. Kassidy came over with a smile and she took my order happily. She deserved a great tip because she had amazing service. Amazing good and amazing service, 10/10!
The sushi is great. The personable service, however, is lacking, I was trying to place a to go order, and I was in the middle of asking a question when I was hung up on, not very professional
The food at their place is really good to me as far as service it’s hit or miss but I’ll definitely be back it’s a decent restaurant
Always love eating here. Friendly staff and amazing food keep me coming back. A little pricey but worth it.
The Best hibachi !! Highly recommend.
Went to this place for the first time for dinner. Friendly staff. Hibachi shrimp, chicken and steak were on point! Delicious.
Delicious!! Pleasant and attentive service. Happy to eat here. Best miso soup I've ever eaten.
This place is phenomenal. My only complaint is that we didn’t discover it sooner. Our favorite so far is the spicy girl roll...but all of the rolls we tried were super delicious.
Went for lunch and the place filled up fast. Clear soup was so good! The lunch specials were at great prices with a lot of options and big portions. Would definitely go back!
I absolutely love this place. The food is always amazing. Their lunches are very reasonable and include Saturdays. The sushi is well made and delicious!
This was my first time tasting real, genuine sushi and I have to proudly admit I was absolutely spoiled. I had a crunchy cream crab roll and I can not explain how delicous and filling it was. I want to thank the cooks there for treating me to such a wonderful meal. I dare say it made my weekend just by tasting one piece of that sushi.
I've been going here since they opened and the food has been amazing every time! Much cheaper than other hibachi and sushi restaurants nearby, especially the lunch specials!
Been here for lunch a couple times and the sushi is amazing. The sushi lunch special is a great deal, the shrimp tempura roll is the best. Service has been great each time. I highly recommend trying it out.
The food is excellent, the portions are large and the price is pretty much what you would expect given that. The restaurant is small so plan to arrive early at busier times.
Love their food.... Sushi is amazing here. I understand with the virus and all not having dine in, but just put a closed sign up if you're shut down completely instead of telling people to call to order when you're not even open.
Really like this spot. Very tasty. I’m happy to have a restaurant like this in this area. I enjoy the sushi as well as the hibachi.
Always a pleasure having dinner with the family. Good food and great service. If you don't know what to order, any of the hibatchi dinners would be a good choice. And my daughter swears by the 🍣.
The food was amazing, and the portion was plenty. Will definitely be going back!!! Thank you Tokyo restaurant for making our visit to VA a little tastier!! 😋
We have been out of the country for nearly 2 years.... So we got a little sticker shock! Prices are much higher than before.... Same great food!
The food here is amazing! The prices for lunch specials are unbeatable, and their hibachi and sushi are better than I’ve had anywhere else in VA!
This is a small unassuming restaurant in the middle of a strip mall away from everything but they literally have the freshest and most delicious sushi i have ever had. We come here quite often and the family that runs the restaurant always remembers us.
I truly enjoy the food here. Have had nothing but great experiences with the staff when I’ve eaten in. Would recommend to anyone who loves hibachi or any good foods.
We found a popular place with the locals, which means the food must be great. The food did not disappoint and we will surely visit again!
Me and my whole family love Tokyo! The sushi is some of the best around. If you don't like sushi their hibachi is great too. My mom and I eat their at least once a week.
***Update, changing to 5 stars because my last experience here was quite pleasant, greeted by staff this time and I even saw some smiles!! They definitely have a reason to smile their food is amazing. Keep it up!!! Ok so I personally LOVE this place, their sushi is ALWAYS really fresh, their hibachi is delicious and its right across the street from LOW. Overall, its a great restaurant to place pick up orders..... BUTTTTTT I'm actually giving it 3 stars instead of 5 is because the staff here is not at all hospitable, they have been pretty dismissive every time I have gone in to pick up my orders. I think a restaurant and its food are complimented by the friendliness of the staff working there and the overall customer experience. I definitely think this is something that can be easily improved on their part. I will definitely continue to spend my money here and I always recommend this restaurant for good sushi but I always recommend placing pickup orders instead of dining in
Wow, what a great little place. Very reasonable prices, the food and service were great. We'll definitely be coming back to try the other offerings. The fried rice was really good, scallops were perfect. Can't wait to come back.
Love this place never had a bad meal !! Been going since my son was 8 he’s now 20
This by far the best hibachi I’ve ever had. We have tried different restaurants up and down the east cost but this still is voted our favorite! They flavor the food very well which makes it deliciously mouth watering. The service is always super fast which helps with you have young kids with you. Whenever we have guest we always enjoy introducing them to this fabulous place.
Great food. Small dining area. Very small, Maybe 12 tables; 3-4 booths, 8-9 two-tops. Always packed. That's a good sign. There's likely to be as many or more waiting for carry out as are seated. It can get crowded. We usually get ours to go now...But allow at least 30 minutes from phone order to pickup, on busy nights...Last time, I got there 30 minutes after I called and waited 15 more minutes.... They were busy!
Hibachi Chicken lunch special! I could drink the yum yum sauce by the gallon. Fresh and delicious sushi. What a gem! No photos, gets eaten too fast.
We got a large carry out order from the restaurant this weekend. It was our first experience with them. The food was excellent and arranged in well-labeled containers when we picked it up. We will be going back for sure!
I always have an amazing experience at Tokyo restaurant! The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is friendly and attentive. The sushi was incredibly fresh and flavorful, with beautiful presentation that made every bite enjoyable. I especially loved the variety of rolls and how well-balanced the flavors were. The service was prompt and courteous, making the whole meal even better. This is definitely one of my favorite eating spots.
Best Asian cuisine in this area. Everything else doesn’t come close to the quality this place delivers. Meat could have been more throughly seasoned, otherwise a solid place.
Went to lunch this past Saturday with my Husband and his Dad. We walked in, seated ourselves. Noticed it was very clean. A very nice server took our drink order. She returned quickly with our drinks. Shortly after brought our food. My husband and I ordered Steak, and his Dad ordered Chicken Hibachi. No complaints here! Everything tasted delicious! Will be bringing more people next time!! Next time I will take pictures!
A very delicious meal; we went twice. First for sushi then for a hibachi meal
Best local restaurant! I loved both the Hibachi and Sushi. Lovely atmosphere and the sweetest waitresses. Such a pleasant experience every time!
Kayleigh was a stellar waitress and recommended and explained several dishes to us. I am beyond picky and hadn't tried certain types of food. I got the Angel Roll (which is new) and it was superb! I would definately recommend this restaurant and my meal. The other waitress was also very good ; Fen̈ny? (they shared serving the restaurant).
I’ve been coming here since I was 13 so about 5 years now. It is amazing absolutely every time. I’ve never had a mistake on my order, the people are always so kind and the service is amazing in store and takeout. I moved about 35min away and we cannot eat sushi or hibachi anywhere else because we’re spoiled with how amazing their food and service is every time, it ruins all else. We love this place and family, we will happily drive 35 min to get food from here every time.
Clean and friendly. Prices are a little high for the area in my opinion. Food is consistently good with obviously fresh ingredients.
Best local family owned restaurant. Food is similar to Japanese steakhouse but without cooking at your table. Sushi is the best!
Surprisingly good sushi for a strip mall establishment in a very rural area. Nice and helpful staff.
Quiet and friendly more personal than most Asian places. The rice is to die for , I am not particularly a rice lover more meat potatoes but I have ordered rice to go. They have a small Sushi bar, so you can watch being made. Oh most important the prices are very reasonable and portions are comparable.
Dined in. Only oriental restaurant available for that option. Just discovered a new favorite! Hibachi chicken was tender and flavorful. Fried rice was very good also. Nice selection of veggies too. YUM!!!
I get decent food here. The sushi is fresh made when you order it. Everyone is friendly.
People were so nice when we arrived. Small dining area but cute little place. The food was good, I would warn to say this isn’t your typical soy sauce forward hibachi as even the rice was sweet. Almost like teriyaki sauce was mixed in throughout. Again, it was good but definitely caught us off guard as we were looking for that specific flavor but we would recommend the place as long as you know what you are getting!
Solid sushi restaurant in our area. 4/5 because they do not have all of the options that larger sushi restaurants may have, however, it is great to have a sushi restaurant in Locust Grove. They also have hibachi available. Service is fast and they are always busy with both take out and dine-in tables. Prices are much cheaper than Fredericksburg or Northern VA.
UPDATED 1/9/2024 It appears that Tokyo Restaurant is back to its former level of service and taste. We dined in and had a great experience. The hibachi steak and shrimp was very good. The steak was very tender and obviously very fresh. The sushi was fresh and yummy. And the service was back to normal, now that "dine in" is an option. We'll be back to enjoy dinner again soon. ------------------------------------------------------------- This place used to be good! Now, not so much. Ordered a chicken hibachi dinner and a shrimp hibachi dinner. The chicken was like chicken jerky. It had the texture of overcooked chicken that had been sitting on a steam table since the lunch rush and reheated. Dry and tough. Almost no sauce on it. I counted TWO pieces of carrot in my tasteless fried rice, which filled more than half of the carry-out box. A TINY portion of vegetables. Even the shrimp was overcooked, as if it had been sitting for a while and reheated. This restaurant has gone way down hill. I guess now that they are "take out only," they aren't concerned about quality. Once you're out their door, their responsibility is over. Never again.
Been back many times. Food is pretty good if you ask them not to put sauce on the veggies and proteins. I liked the fried rice. The shrimp are usually good but some days they are overcooked. The eel roll was bland. Not bad, but no flavor. Salmon was really good as long as it's not overcooked, which happens occasionally. Not fond of the chicken. Steak is tasty but you get less of a portion than the other proteins. Service is fast. Prices are as expected due to the higher quality of the food. They use fresh ingredients.
Their sushi is good and their hibachi is delicious! A nice place to get food and super convenient since it is right outside of lowa.
Great local place with great food ! I'm a little picky so I gave 4 stars, but it's really very good and I definitely recommend.
I'm gonna start with food, I've been here 5 separate times, the first time I was here it was a 5 star, I got chicken hibachi, the chicken was tender delicious and full of flavor as was the rice, the vegetables were a little soggy but still good, everything was full of flavor and tasted great, the sushi was on point as well, but the next few time we came it was a steady downward slope, the food started to loose its flavor, the chicken became tough and under season, and the rice would taste bland, and the vegetables would be under seasoned and lacked taste, the sushi always held up, but there sushi is pretty average, sushi didn't wow me ever. The service is always great everyone is nice and professional. The atmosphere is nice but to crowded. Also the prices just aren't worth the quality of food when I've had better. Overall it's a 4.
Ok. While the service was fine and the staff was friendly and professional the food itself was just not that great. The slice of fish on the nigiri items was small, the rolls while creative were made with less expensive filler i assume to save a bit of money on fish. The worst though was the miso soup. It tasted a lot like Virginia tapwater and left a chemical taste in my mouth... yuck. With so many choices these days for sushi, I will not be returning to this restaurant.
The food was tasty. I tried the to-go seaweed salad before and it was delicious so I went back for a lunch date with my friend. I was pleased with the hibachi lunch. I decided to order to-go meals for dinner so my husband can try them because the food was good. The service could be better. I order to go chicken hibachi but they charged me dinner price which I was fine with. My bill was $101 mostly dinner to go. Overall, it's okay because of the poor service by the owner, not the waitress. She took over when I was ordering to-go meals. Idk why she did.
Not the place for sushi for any reason. Tried 3 different time and multiple rolls. All junk. Good hibachi though
I was going to try this place but it looked and felt filthy. Even the front door is dirty. Too bad because people say its good in the reviews. But I'm a bit germaphobic so I'll pass on this small dirty spot.
Really disappointing. While the food came quickly, it was really sub-par. Sushi (yellowfin) was fishy. Filet Mignon, chicken, and shrimp hibachi were barely okay. Rice was heavy on the soy/salt. Vegetable portion was small. Feels like a cheesy take-out joint, not a Japanese steakhouse.
I have eaten here a few times in the last year and found the food to be bland. No seasonings on the meat and very little sauce to saute vegetables in. I end up having to use a lot of salt and yum yum sauce. The rice seems plain as well. I had a good experience a year ago but the last year just changed.
I ordered take out. The food quality was not really great. They are the only game in town for a Japanese steak house, but for the money we paid I do not think the food quality was worth it. Also the shrimp in my wife's food smelled a little suspect.
Run down inside. Sashimi isn’t good, the soups were amazing, hibachi was decent enough.
Was given the wrong sushi order and charged for soup when asked about the menu which was updated the lady said we don't do that anymore. The sushi is mid for real .
Horrible service when you call in. I asked for Hibachi and she place and order for Miuchi. I asked if I could get what I wanted and pay the difference. She instead argued with me.
Highly don’t recommend if you like sushi . Over priced small portions that taste like they have been sitting out for a week .
Blonde haired waitress needs to be fired. Food great and owner very nice guy but the waitress forgot our drinks. After 10 minutes I reminded her we didnt have our drinks. That was it she ignored us the rest of the night, wouldnt come back to the table the rest of the night. So my son and I needed refills on our drinks I had to go up to the bar and bring my drinks for a refill. I asked someone else to help me. I said I need a refill of my coke, she walks by and says "you mean pepsi??" And walks off, because they had Pepsi products and not coke products, why say that to a customer? At that point I knew she was deliberately ignoring our table. The owner said it was hard to find good employees but she didnt care at all. Worst service I've ever had for a $100 dinner, I cant believe I still left a tip....probably just too nice
Service is very, very cold we never get a thank you or anything as we are spending money there. I have come here on several occasions thinking the service from who is I am assuming an owner, her demeanor is often standoffish and never welcoming it almost makes you feel as if she does not really want you there, but does want the money you are spending. After my trip there today I will not be back I will take my money elsewhere. Interesting enough i watched her roll her eyes at a customer asking for sauce. Customer service is lacking and should be better towards paying customers.
Chicken was extremely dry and overcooked. Rice was overcooked. Not worth the price at all. Staff was kind.
UPDATE! Grabbed lunch to go today and while waiting they had seven to go boxes spread out across the counter. that the cook behind the grill just placed orders in each container. As she (owner) approach the counter I witness her taking meat out of the containers and shifting said meat to other platters. When I asked her about it she had this "oh oh" look on her face that said everything. She never replied as she knew she was wrong! I will be reporting this and will never eat there again. DISGUSTING!!
Don't waste your time at this place. I tried ordering a few different items listed on their menu, only to be told "We don't offer that", several times. I finally had to ask what "was" available... The woman was very rude and to be honest, it felt like my mere presence was an inconvenience to her. I arrived OVER an hour before they closed and made it clear I wanted to place an order to go (so I could get out of there and let them close up on time). It became immediately obvious that she was irritated I even tried to order. I have worked in the food service field before so I was being as courteous as possible, only to be met with rude behavior. I'm new to the area so they definitely lost a possible repeat customer. I will be sharing this review on all platforms and with family and friends. 12/20/2021 8:20 pm. UPDATE: I decided to give it another try due to the positive ratings from others on the food. I was seated and waited over 10 minutes for someone to take my order before I left. This place seems very short handed and take on more to go orders than they can handle, making the dine in customers pay for it. Reducing to one star and definitely never coming back.
Went in today for dinner. Walked in at 7:45 and the server made a face at us. She asked if we came in for carry out and we said dine in. She then brought us the menu and asked us to order take out. I said no and made another face. We then walked out. The restaurant closes at 9:00 so have no idea why they didn’t want to serve us. Bad service.
