Opinions de Andrew Edmunds London
Andrew Edmunds is one of those rare London restaurants that makes you feel, from the very first step inside, that you’ve discovered something timeless rather than trendy. Tucked away in Soho, it has an atmosphere that is almost impossible to fake: intimate, calm, and quietly confident. No noise for the sake of noise, no theatrics — just a room full of people who clearly came for the same reason: good food, good wine, and proper conversation. The menu is a masterclass in restraint. Classic European cooking, executed with precision and respect for ingredients. Every dish feels thought-through, balanced, and honest. There is nothing experimental for the sake of novelty, yet nothing feels dated. The flavours are deep, clean, and reassuring — the kind of food that reminds you why you fell in love with dining out in the first place. The wine list deserves a special mention. It is exceptional not only in quality, but in character. There is a real sense that it has been curated by people who love wine, rather than by accountants or marketing teams. It invites exploration and rewards curiosity. Service at Andrew Edmunds is exactly how service should be: attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without arrogance, warm without being intrusive. You are made to feel welcome, not managed. What I appreciate most is the integrity of the place. Andrew Edmunds does not try to be fashionable, viral, or Instagram-friendly. It simply focuses on doing things properly — and does them consistently well. In a city that constantly reinvents itself, this restaurant stands as a reminder that quality, tradition, and quiet confidence never go out of style. It is not just a restaurant I enjoy — it is one I trust.
The menu didn't look great but everything tasted amazing. So don't judge a book by it's cover. The restaurant is romantic, great wine selection at very affordable price at around 40 quid and good sized portions. Candlelit venue with wonderful staff Thank you
Very very good food and excellent wine list. Andrew Edmunds is often recommended by wine industry friends due to its listing of great wines, from great vintages, at great prices. The restaurant stands out for me as one of the best in London, the meal was one of the most memorable of my year.
Wonderful dinner, thoughtful dishes. Sourdough is aromatic, and butter is so delicious that I asked for its origin :3 First time seeing this horizontal cut of ox tongue. Tender with a slight crisp. The pigeon is also nice and slightly smoky. The special beef shin is tender, flavorful, with a prominent yet mellow wine flavor. The celeriac tastes good as well. Lamb spine chop is also perfectly cooked. Also appreciated the mixed vegetable. Unlike the greasy and heavy veggie dishes in other places, this one is healthy and doesn’t overpower the mains. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Looking forward to trying other dishes (and desserts!).
Had a very lovely wedding anniversary meal here! Food and atmosphere was excellent. Loved being able to buy good wines in half bottles. Will definitely go back. Thank you very much.
Hands down THE BEST RESTAURANT in London for traditional English dishes! It was challenging to book a table for 4 because there’s limited space it is seriously worth the hassle. It was a 21:30 reservation and we stayed till close. The staff are attentive and everything on the menu looked good and our selections were great. Would definitely recommend 💯
We had a lovely dinner here with well executed dishes. Everything was cooked well, fresh and balanced. The space is intimate and the service was attentive.
It is an absolute gem of a place for a seriously relaxed but classy dining experience. The service, the wine, the atmosphere was all on par. The hake was perfectly cooked and the choux bun dessert delicious. The bread also was ridiculously moorish with delicious olives.
We walked in to this restaurant purely just from walking by and we were super hungry. Little did we know how INCREDIBLE the food would be! One of the best lunches I’ve ever had—the king crab salad was SO fresh and the beetroot soup was super flavorful. Our main entree was the halibut and that did take a little long to come out, but it was worth the wait because it was the most silky, smooth baked fish ever. We wanted dessert but were too full! Highly recommend this restaurant, small and lovely.
What an amazing way to spend an afternoon. A superb choice for lunch.Fantastic food , great choices. We were not rushed and the speed of service was great. Extensive choice of wine, reasonably priced and some wine specials on the board. Great seasonal menu, changing often. Wonderful!
We had an absolutely lovely private lunch for 16 people for a hen do. Alice was a brilliant and patient server. Food was delicious, wine was fabulous, and the upstairs room is so light-filled and beautiful. The bride absolutely loved it. Thanks all!
High quality, tasty food for great prices. I think this has to be one of the best restaurants in London for the quality to price ratio if you're looking for a nice place to eat on a date. We had two starters: the squid and the duck. Both were paired nicely wine by our water. They were fresh tasting with the crunchy veggies complimenting the textures of the meat. For mains, we took a fish and a meat dish - both delicious. For dessert, we had the cheesecake. It was pretty good, but I think you can find a better Basque cheesecake elsewhere.
I came here for my birthday, and it was a lovely experience! This place is small and charming, with a cute and cozy atmosphere. It’s best to book about a month in advance as it tends to get fully booked quickly. The staff were friendly, and the wine selection was excellent. We were happy with our food overall—the lamb main was especially delicious. However, the pork chop was a bit too tough for my taste. The prices are very affordable for the quality, and I’d definitely come back again. A great spot for a special occasion!
Wonderful little restaurant in the heart of Soho. Really delicious traditional English farm to table food and great wine to pair. Cosy atmosphere with candlelight. The menu looks hand written so I assume they change frequently which is always a great sign. Highly recommend!
Andrew Edmunds is a small and very authentic restaurant serving a mix of European/English dishes. It looks like they only take guests with reservations - so make sure to reserve a table. The atmosphere and service are great. Very friendly staff and nice candle light atmosphere. The food is good, but not exceptional. The sole was fresh and well-prepared, but was missing a bit of taste.
Love this quaint restaurant in the heart of London! The staff was really friendly and helpful, and the food was super delicious! Nothing too complicated but it’s packed with flavour. The pork chop was cooked perfectly, very tender. We finished with the desserts and again, very home cooked vibe but made well! This has become a new spot for my special occasion list!
Excellent meal, not sure why nobody told me about this place before. Loved the atmosphere, loved the food options, loved ordering the magnums of wine. Reasonably priced for this part of town. Nobody on our table had a disappointing dish. Not that we were expecting to. Worked out to be about £100 a head but we went full three courses, sides and two magnums of wine between four of us.
What it is not: fine dining. Glasses are of low quality and presentation is meh. What it excels at: cosy, intimate, value dining experience. Great portion of well-seasoned, professionally cooked food; consumer-friendly mark-up w/ some old vintages you cannot easily buy on the market; and warm, unpretentious service you find in your neighborhood pub. One of the best places to dine in London for wine lovers.
Back here after a 30 year gap and it's just as wonderful as ever. Great food, reasonably priced Pol Roger and Saint-Véran wine. David (maître d') helped us celebrate our 3rd anniversary in style. Thank you x
Been meaning to actually dine in Andrew Edmunds for awhile but was delighted to discover their food hamper available for delivery. Fantastic delivery on Friday morning and the quality of food was fantastic. It has lasted us several meals and I love the flexibility with how you can pair up food to your regular meals as well. Fantastic value for the quality of food. I'm looking forward to ordering a second food hamper again.
The place for a blow out meal. Cooking is classic and the chef doesn’t serve food with tweezers. No edible flowers here. Great wine list and no outrageous mark ups: rare in London. Can be chilly by windows, and ask to be upstairs, although basement not too bad. Good value.
I was introduced by a girl friend about 25 years ago and have been going there ever since. Ours even better than ever and seriously welcoming downstairs. I love the fact that you can pretend you are back in the 60s in a tiny SoHo restaurant you’ve just discovered for a rainy dark London late lunch with a good friend and then you find yourself having one of the best meals ever.
We had the most lovely evening at Andrew Edmunds. They have seasonal produce. The food was delicious, the ambiance romantic and the service very friendly. We could see why it's so popular!
Andrew Edmunds is one of my favourite London restaurants. A reservation is recommended as it is very busy. I love the food and wine there.
Great little restaurant, food is awesome, very intimate setting with real candles. Really good wine list and reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Would absolutely dine here again
Great food as always - the fish is a must. Service slightly rushed for a week night. Great wine selection!
Fantastic meal to celebrate wife’s birthday The food was delicious, everything perfectly seasoned. She absolutely loved the skate wing for main There was a nice pause between each course, so nothing was rushed, which made the night feel like an experience. So I would recommend you come here for a good couple of hours, rather than rushing it before heading off elsewhere Our server was fantastic, incredibly friendly and helpful I can’t wait to visit the restaurant again, it’s what dining should be
This is a wonderful restaurant that I've been wanting to visit for a long time. Service, food and wine were all excellent and the atmosphere was highly conducive to my having dinner as a solo female with a book and a glass of fizz. The pheasant main and stout pudding were fantastic.
Lovely bistro vibe. Interesting menu, very well executed. Wine list is outstanding and will bring me back time and again. Very moderate prices throughout. Highly recommend.
We had an exceptional experience here. The atmosphere was lovely, food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and attentive. We loved the varied seasonal menu and highly recommend it.
Absolute joy. Busy and bustling with a fine feeling of coziness yet enough room to feel at ease. Very reasonable wine list and the roast partridge and bavette steak were as good as you'll get as far as I know. Prompt and easy going service.
Such a beautiful restaurant- it feels like you're stepping into the pages of a Dickens novel. The food is delish with a lots of interesting dishes on the handwritten menu, including great veggie options. Wine list is terrific and actually really well priced. A total gem ✨️
An absolutely charming restaurant. Right from the start the service was great, and continued to be genuine with nothing forced or pretentious. The food was perfect, the wine list is fantastic, and the specials (including the sherries) are excellent. I can't wait to find an excuse to come back!
Andrew edmunds, considered a ‘old soho legend’ by many. Upon arriving you can see why - the old town house lit by candles on wooden tables creates a great atmosphere for an intimate date night. The food was traditional but very yummy, particularly the special duck parfait & Rice pudding. The extensive but reasonably priced wine list also gives you every avenue of wine possible. Food wise, If you’re looking for hearty over flavour this is a great spot. Vibes & Wine = 10/10
We sat downstairs, where the interior has a simple yet classic country house feel. If you’re looking for somewhere traditional, rustic, and fuss-free, this place might suit you. That said, the food didn’t leave much of an impression. The pan-fried fish we tried lacked flavour, and the scallop starter was quite plain, with little depth or layering in the taste. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant, but the dishes could benefit from more creativity and refinement.
Aren’t we lucky that places as like these are still there right next to Piccadilly Circus? Great wine list, drinks and the cheese from Neals Yard was lovely - the kind servers let us stay chatting drinking till closing and got us some extra jam for our cheese. Also fresh sides - gorgeous, clean dressed greens. Little details that matter :)
Located in Soho, two outdoor tables, rustic interior with church wooden benches , paper table cloth, a bar and down stair seating. Cramped for space and also Low tables if more then 6feet3- Unable to fit your legs under the table . Starters of burrata, subtle flavours. The Sardines was large- was expecting the tiny Spanish but these , the bones in the middle were inedible. The ox tongue was good- like jerked meat. The whole Dover sole was excellent. Cooked to perfection with a lovely butter sauce. The meringue was good- light and fresh. The chocolate with berries was also Good. Service was slow, somewhat overwhelmed. The table was small when we got our food - lack of space, had to start plating up the food and the leave empty plates under another.
Cozy and quaint restaurant. The dessert of the night was a sticky date pudding with toffee sauce and it was phenomenal. The lamb was quite good. We did not particularly like the gnocchi - it was not what we expected and tasted like a falafel/cornbread hybrid, but the pumpkin in the dish was delicious.
The atmosphere is stylish and relaxed, and the staff are friendly, but unfortunately the handwritten menu in large letters caused us to order the wrong food
A very good European restaurant. Food was great, prices are fair. Service was a bit slow.
Have a lovely lunch here with my partner on a Sunday. It wasn't very busy so that was nice. We started with some butter and bread, but felt the butter was very very hard, I wish they would allow it a bit more on room temperature before bringing it to the table perhaps? Both my lamb meal and his beef ragu were good. But for the price it was, I'm not very sure it was amazing. I'm guessing you are also paying the location.
Legendary Soho institution. Sadly everyone around us was English. In the heart of London. We felt bit out of place in there, although everyone was nice and polite. Starters were great for myself and my companion. Unfortunately mains were very average in taste, quite blatant even. Service was just ok. Nice but short interaction. Ambient obviously great. Romantic, cute and old fashioned. All in all I would say good 4. Nothing special or extraordinary but also not bad.
Great atmosphere, bad service, hit or miss food. I’ve been to Andrew Edmunds twice, but I will not be going back again. The first time was great with good food, service and atmosphere. However, we did not have the same experience the second time. As a party of four, we had ordered 6 appetizers, 3 mains, and 2 sides. Our waitress demanded that we order an additional entree to have one per person despite us already clearly spending more than an entree price in apps and sides. There was not another entree that we were interested in, so we went with our waitress’s suggestion of the rigatoni with spinach and pine nuts. The rigatoni (which we were forced to order) was TERRIBLE. It came out tepid and unseasoned. They clearly knew it lacked flavor due to bringing a pepper mill unprompted. The rump cap and pork chops were both solid. However, the steak knives were very dull. Horseradish was a bit overpowering in multiple dishes. The meringue dessert was delicious but not on the menu consistently. The service on our second visit was notably poor. Both waitresses were condescending.
Food was okay, nothing tasted particularly bad but none was outstanding either. Service was good and attentive but the table behind us was extremely loud. We had to shout to hear each other so not the best dining experience. We knew that the waiter knew those loud diners so it would be good if he could ask them to turn down their volume without having to ask him to do so. The mussels were well seasoned but I was a bit disappointed by the size, they're pretty small. They were also not cleaned properly as there were sand residuals in them... The braised cuttlefish was tender but I'm not sure about the sauce. If you like VERY strong cuttlefish tastes, then you'd probably like this dish. Not for me though. I like the duck leg, it was cooked and seasoned well. The meat was very tender, not dry - probably my favourite dish of all. It was nice to try out new restaurants so I don't regret coming here. I'd probably not come back here though, like I said, nothing was particularly mind-blowing.
the menu being hand written might be an attempt at a cute touch but I have walked passed this restaurant for years during work hours hoping to go inside and I have no idea what they serve and how/if they might cater to my allergies. I have literally no idea what this restaurant serves because I can't read the menu. while it looks beautiful and appealing inside, maybe visit if you have no allergies, intolerances and like every single piece of food ever.
I booked this restaurant in mid-August for a special occasion meal. The staff had gone out of their way to provide a lovely table downstairs. I'd already looked at the menu beforehand and decided that I would have the gazpacho as starter so was really looking forward to this chilled soup on a hot day. Some of the group did comment that the hand-written menu was rather difficult to decipher but the staff did help with that. When my starter arrived it was virtually inedible. Whoever was chef that day had decided to put chilli in this dish and it was hot that it burned my tongue and mouth. Considering that no recipe for gazpacho contains chilli as an ingredient as it is not within Spanish or Portuguese cuisine, this seems an extremely amateurish thing to do for a restaurant of this calibre. One of the party was surprised that staff did not advise that his main (pork chop) came with radiccio so he wouldn't have ordered the hispi cabbage as side if he'd known. My fish main was average, annoyingly was swimming in oil on the plate. Obviously, I couldn't say anything on the day as it would have ruined the occasion, but when I phoned up a few weeks later, the manager took my telephone number and acknowledged the feedback but that was it. I am not in the habit of paying over £70 for a meal (we shared just 1 bottle of wine and only 2 of us had a dessert) and feel that a better response when I phoned would have been in order. Quite frankly, I am always very disappointed with chefs who seem to think that chilli is an essential ingredient in every meal. It isn't and given its hazardous qualities (it burns the skin after all) and smothers any other taste of ingredients.
This is one of my favourite places in London and I normally recommend it to my friends and people I know are big foodies. This restaurant has been a staple of my London life since 1992, the year I moved to Uk, and it has always been consistent, faultless, and just perfect. The ambience is still good, the food is still good, the lack of attention to detail and the rushed, careless service from our waiter ( a short, bald guy that was probably rushed off or simply too busy to cope with guests asking for guidance on wines, or desserts, leaving us meanwhile we were talking to him, mid-sentence), is simply unbelievable. If you are busy, I understand, but leaving us meanwhile we are deciding, or asking your opinion, is not ok, no matter how you want to look at it. It happened twice, when I was asking for advise on the wine, and then again when we were trying to order the desserts. I am ok with waiting, I am ok with receiving the starters before the wine we ordered, I am ok with leaving the langoustine shelves on the table for a long time and getting the wine at the wrong temperature, and not clearing a small table, not replacing the dirty plates and cutlery, and not bringing the new cutlery, but it is not ok to tell us in an angry way to move a very small iPhone so he could put the new food on the table without having cleared the dirty plates and cutlery which were there for a long time first. This was also a birthday dinner for my best friend, and this was specified in the reservation. Of course it was ignored and nothing was mentioned or even acknowledged during our dinner. Again, I am astonished by how badly things have gone in one of my favourite places on the service side. We ordered the smoked mackerel and the langoustines to start with, the pork chop with fennel and the hake with anchoiade, plus a very good Chassagne Montrachet, and a brownie with blackcurrant and creme fraiche, together with a meringue with pear and chocolate sauce . I am very sad to say I am not rushing to go back . Which is a shame, as I was very fond of this restaurant.
Avoid. Overhyped. Bread was cold but nice I guess. The starters - Crab : crab meat itself was lovely but for some reason, they added sweetcorn - made no sense and taste. The duck salad was completely doused in English mustard which totally overpowered the dish. Very small pieces on duck. We had the partridge as a main. The partridge itself was beautifully cooked but the vegetables were an over boiled slop of a mess. The wine special was good. Service was rude though the waiters service the actual food were polite. I never understand why some restaurants like this use up every single space to make money at the expense of their customers. We got a cramped table for 2 by the bar, stairs and kitchen - very bright and noisy. Chair pushing up against the banister in one side and against another diner on the other. Overall- bread, 2 starters and main, a bottle of wine all came up to £160. If you’re thinking of a nice delicious romantic dinner for two, go somewhere else. This is not it.
Everyone was kind and the atmosphere was great, but the food was very disappointing. We had a smoked mackerel, an ox tongue, and a lamb chop, and I wouldn’t recommend them.
I got food poisoning here, very likely from the tepid mussels which were served to me sitting in a bowl of butter, which seemed off and definitely didn’t seem right at the time. I didn’t say anything at the time about it being cold because I assumed a restaurant with such incredible reviews wouldn’t have that sort of issue. I also had the Dover sole fish, which was also sitting in a pool of butter that seemed a bit off. I was really disappointed in this experience because it was a really nice, intimate atmosphere, but I can’t stand by this experience and need others to know that this happened. The food poisoning lasted for two days. Hugely disappointed.
