The place is cozy, staff very polite and friendly. Food casual comfort but very well executed. Lovely ribs, nice rumb steak - I suggest to have it cooked no more than medium, wings are simple and fresh, the chicken with mushrooms was nice and had some butter green beans made of heaven. They need to have a look in the peanut satay sauce as it was oily. Last but not least the pecan pie was delicious. I recommend this place for a nice meal. Value for money.
My daughter & mother found this gem and while we were visiting London. My daughter (16) ate there 3 times and would have eaten there every day if allowed!! She said they ruined fries and burgers for her forever because theirs were so amazing - and she’s a finicky eater. Mother loved the ribs. She couldn’t get enough of the apple pie with custard!! I have to agree as I was with her for 2 of the 3 meals and she’s on point!! Great staff and absolutely amazing food!!
100% recommend!!! Food 10/10. Service 10/10. I came here for the first time and I was extremely impressed. We ordered the bread to start off with ( u get to chose if u want butter or balsamic vinegar & oil), ribeye steak & swapped the chips for mash with a side salad & a side of sautéed mushrooms. The steak was cooked to perfection (my friend had medium-well, I had well done) and exactly as we asked. The mash was the best Ive tasted!!! I expected a simple side salad but they added shredded cheese & walnuts - it was really good. Portion sizes are very good and worth the price. I wouldnt say this was cheap but I have paid much more for decent steak which wasnt as great. Service was exceptional - really attentive & friendly!!! Restaurant was very clean & presentable. Our bill was £104 which included two double gins. I will be coming back
We came back here for the first time after 10 years, OMG it was just as amazing as the first time. We were greeted and seated by Simeon who was our waiter, he gave us the choice of a window seat or booth, we choose a booth. After quickly being seated we examined the menu and knew what we wanted to choose. We ordered a bottle of Merlot and our starters and main. I opted for the chickens satay skewers and my partner chose the butterfly prawns. Both started were superb and well seasoned, for our mains we chose a ribeye steak each, cooked medium rare and I opted for the sautéed mushrooms, our steaks melted in your mouth and would rival another well known steak house brand; our fries and my mushrooms were well seasoned and accompanied with a peppercorn sauce. We opted for dessert, I had the ice cream sundae and my partner chose the sticky toffee pudding with another bottle of wine. Simeon was more than happy to supply this and was very attentive at making sure everything was ok with our meals. As a final before leaving we opted for a baby Guinness shot; everyone and the atmosphere in the restaurant was superb for a return visit after soo long. Thank you soo much Simeon and to the other waiters and waitresses for a lovely evening.
We had a wonderful dinner at the Black & Blue bar. The service was very friendly and helpful. Thanks to the waiters from Birmingham and the two Hungarian waiters. The food was fantastic, we ate very well. It will remain an eternal memory for us, we will never forget it. They gave our daughter a wonderful memory for her birthday.
My husband had the fish and chips and I had the rump steak with fries. My husband loved his fish. My steak had a lot of flavor and no gristle. It was cooked medium rare, which was how I ordered it. We also had the appetizer of hummus, guacamole, olives, red peppers and pita bread. Oh my goodness! It was delicious! Service was exceptional. The ladies bathroom was very clean with plenty of toilet paper. My beer was very cold! 🍺Delicious! We did think it was a little expensive, but the food was very good. We definitely recommend this restaurant!
Excellent variety of food. Very attentive wait staff. The steaks were a bit under-cooked, but were brought up to temp quickly before all of the other food came out. The fish & chips were fantastic. Genuine Haddock freshly battered and fried.
Had a Girl's night with my bff and we decided to go here. Restaurant is affordable to dine for 2 but the Quality of Service, Food and Atmosphere...10/10. It was a bit cold inside but that wasnt here or there. Thank you for a wonderful night.
This place really surprised me! I pass through Waterloo a lot, and always see this place when I leave the station but today was my first time actually giving it a go and I was impressed! The food was fairly priced and really good! Our group got the spinach and artichoke dip, bacon cheeseburger, sausage and mash, and ribs. The cocktails were probably my favourite part of the experience though, so so delicious and lots of choice! Friendly, helpful staff and fast service too. Will definitely come back again for the espresso martinis.
Happy with the experience for walking in without a wait on V-Day. Place was full and servers were busy, but friendly to assist when we had their attention. The food and drinks were good overall. Ribeye and burger both hit the spot. Ate all the chips. Convenient location outside of Waterloo Station and in Southbank. If they can dial down the grilling so the meats are just a hair less charcoaled that would make things taste even better. Salad was wilted but who really cares. Look forward to coming back for happy hour and steaks.
We went for a joint stag/hen. We were a big party and was lucky they could accommodate us. The service was excellent and friendly even though we were a big group and all paying individually, so a little awkward. Not a big wait on food, which was incredible amd everyone enjoyed. Cocktails were also very good.
The food was delicious and our waiter Patrick was a delightful person to talk with!
As a family of 5, we arrived with no booking, and although busy, we were seated within 5 min. Service was friendly and attentive and food was delicious.
The service was impeccable, the time spend getting a table was very efficient. The staff was very attentive and very easy to speak to. The atmosphere is relax and very chill. The food was outstanding and great prices! Spend less than 25 pounds for a salad, shrimps, and 2 beers! Would recommend!
Went for birthday dinner last night. Great food, great cocktails and Great Service. Highly recommend the Pink Martini, Ribeye Steak, Apple pie....in fact it was all good!
My apologies for not getting shots of everyone else's lunches... (We had 5 people in total) But I just have to say that the Chicken Wings were AWESOME! I try not to throw superlatives around too much, but I concede this time. I wasn't hungry (due to eating a breakfast bag on the train), but felt obliged to buy something for "Lunch"...and these were bang-on. Give them a go!! Service was friendly, attentive but not overbearing and standard London prices for food. ✌️
Some mixed reviews on the steaks but the burgers were well and truly immense. They were huge and incredibly tasty. Whoever put the double burger with bacon, cheese, mushroom and guac on the menu deserves a knighthood.
A great location just opposite Waterloo Station. Good food, friendly staff, great wine selection and the dessert was cracking!
Party of 5 for lunch. Came because we had gluten free options. Server was on top of things and re questioned the cooks about everything. Drinks were good. Food was well prepared, tasty and enough. A little more than usual but good for a sit down lunch service. Would go back.
Great food! We got a flat iron steak medium rare, it was cooked to perfection 👌
Popped in here before going to the BFI, as our stomachs were informing us that something was missing and they had no intention of letting us watch the film without making them happy first. We both had the cheese, beef and bacon burgers that were very yummy and cooked to perfection. Perhaps the salad in the bun could be more imaginative. Washed down with an excellent glass of Rioja. The service was above excellent and they were kind enough to make space at the table when our son and daughter joined us for a bit.
I went to Black and Blue in Waterloo for a work lunch and overall had a good experience. The highlight of the meal was definitely the starters — the grilled prawns with garlic butter are a must-have if you like seafood, and the artichoke dip was another standout. For my main, I had the ribeye with chips and mushrooms. It was fine, but for a steakhouse I expected the steak itself to be better quality — it didn’t feel like the star of the meal. That said, the service was friendly and attentive, which made the lunch enjoyable.
Dining at Black and Blue Waterloo is truly a delightful experience. Situated just steps away from the bustling Waterloo Station, this modern steakhouse under a Victorian brick railway arch offers more than just a meal. It’s a culinary journey. The baby ribs at Black and Blue are a standout. These smoked baby back pork ribs, served with a tangy barbecue sauce, fries, and a house salad, are both generous and satisfying. The meat is tender, falling off the bone, and perfectly captures that deep smoky flavour. The portion size is substantial enough to leave you feeling full but still craving more with each bite. The sausage and mash dish is another highlight. This classic comfort food is elevated at Black and Blue, featuring high-quality sausages that are juicy and flavorful, served on a bed of smooth, creamy mashed potatoes. Accompanied by green beans and a rich peppercorn sauce, it’s a hearty meal that exemplifies the best of British cuisine. Both dishes are well-portioned, ensuring that you get great value for your money while enjoying an exquisite dining experience. With rave reviews about the consistent quality of these dishes, it’s no wonder Black and Blue has earned such a strong reputation among locals and visitors alike.
Had evening dinner and it was good enough. Had the salmon main, house salad, and cheeseburger plate, along with the sticky toffee pudding. The salmon was overcooked, and rather dry, and the salad was a bit bland. The flavors were just "meh," but the pudding was amazing. Service was very good and it was a typical evening crowd. Overall, good, just kinda hoped for a more unique offering.
Really good food and friendly service. A good choice on the menu and presentation was nice. Biggest steak knives I've seen in my life!Handicap accessible entry and toilets. A bit expensive and expect a service charge of 12.5% which is added to the bill. Always read the small print. Other than that it's in an ideal location infront of Waterloo Station
This restaurant was alright, however I only came here due to the fact it is close to Waterloo station. It isn't the best restaurant, however it is alright if you want a family meal of up to 3/4 people. Prices are hefty, with a can of sprite being £4, but the food was decent. I ordered the chicken with bacon, chips, cheese and house salad (I believe) and it was £21. The house salad started it would come with croutons, however it came with walnuts instead. Walnuts are alright, however I would've much preferred croutons on my salad.
dined at Black & Blue Waterloo, and while I found the steak to be excellent, the overall experience was slightly marred by the price. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender, and flavorful, clearly demonstrating the restaurant’s commitment to quality. The sides and sauces complemented the meal wonderfully, making for a satisfying dining experience.
Decent food. Meat was delicious. Service was very quick as we needed to eat before going to the theatre. Staff were ready to welcome our group of 8.
Went for dinner after work, convenient for commuters. Very nice cocktails, I had a caesar salad which good, no less or more than I expected. Shame I couldn't try any of the burgers as I was not too hungry on the day. Will definitely be going back
Florin The amazing waiter really improved our evening by going the extra mile with cutting up the cote du boef. And making us a custom don pedro cocktail.
I enjoy this place for food occasionally - usually when transiting Waterloo station which is next door. So it's convenient but it's also very good. Prices not too bad for location and food is excellent. Staff invariably lovely but sometimes not quite attentive enough (you have to wait/call them when perhaps they should see you want them). This is only a minor point and could have been due to short staffing I guess.
I was around and saw the place then decided to go for a quick bite, which turned out to be a full meal. We had combinations of beef and chicken were all were tasty. The whole team from the entrance till the kitchen were following on us regularly specially for the kids and we were served a complementary desert at the end. It was a perfect ending for the day. God bless you
Was super disappointed with the steak frites. Ordered medium well and the inside temperature was pink and cooked fine, but the outside was burnt to a crisp(see top left in photo). The sirloin was cooked well and tasted well (bottom steak in photo) Did order the sticky toffee pudding which was delicious! The server was very kind and attentive
Nice enough place. Very close to Waterloo station, you can hear and feel the trains going overhead(which we actually enjoyed). We had a couple of the burgers and they seemed a little pricey for what we got.
I ordered Shetland Isles Salmon Dill Créme Fraiche, Fries, House Salad, Shiraz, The Impressionist ‘Cosmic Cloud’, South Africa and diet Coca Cola (330 ml for an unknown price ). It wasn’t busy and staff where cordial towards me upon arrival. Music was playing in the back round, luckily no service charge for one person. Food was of decent quality and arrived on time, house salad wasn’t amazing but it was ok. Everything else was of good quality. Toilets where cleaned and had a interesting lay out for the male toilets. This restaurant is opposite Waterloo station
I only tried their baby back ribs and it's s decent size meal, the ribs are well seasoned and tender that it almost fall of the bone. Nothing spectacular about the flavour it is well seasoned and typical American style ribs. The pecan salad that comes with it is also nice but it lacks some flavour and depth with the salad. Perhaps, it's because there's no dressing except the grated cheese . The chips are fine and the portion is good enough. I might try one more time next time different menu just to give justice to their food otherwise service wise and the decor of the restaurant it's good place for a quick meal.
The appetisers were lovely. So were the staff and the restaurant. But one cannot possibly go into a restaurant named Black & Blue with a statue of a cow outside and have steak so tough I was tired on my first bite. Ordered it medium rare, got it closer to rare- that's fine, some have differing standards for these things. But the meat was so tough both to cut and to chew. And yes, I made sure it wasn't a factor of the grain by cutting the meat all three possible ways. Would not return for the steak unfortunately.
This place has a great atmosphere and might be good for burgers and drinks, but don't expect the best-organized service or great steaks. After sitting down, it took about 5 minutes to be greeted by the server. He was a pleasant fellow, but English was not his first language. We order our drinks and appetizers. About 5 minutes later, we had another server come to take our drink order again. We explained that it had already been placed, but he said no matter - it mattered to me, I did not need to order it twice. For the main course, I ordered sirloin steak - medium, salad, and fries (these were the options). The steak was so tough that my fork could not stab it, and my steak knife struggled to cut it. In addition, the fat was poorly trimmed. If you are looking for a night out with friends for bar food and drink, this place is fine. However, if you are taking someone on a date for dinner, avoid Black and blue Waterloo.
Genuinely the worst meal out I’ve had in memory- the quality of the food and cooking is woeful. Only two stars for service. Fillet steak came out black, smooth, and hard on the outside, grey and raw in the middle. Chicken wings were rock hard. Salad was soggy and sad. Replacement steak came, but still a strange texture on the outside. Just avoid. Better steak in a pub.. and I hate pub steaks.
The waitress that served us on the 21st Feb was rude and didn’t spend much time when taking our order. This included snatching our menus, slamming plates onto our table, no effort in asking whose dish it was which we ordered and generally brought the atmosphere down. She looked at us as if we had offended her. This was quite strange as we were polite and smiled when asking for menus/giving our orders. We noticed that she spent more time with other customers, smiling away and affording a more comfortable experience to others. We understand it can be stressful at work, but giving an equal experience to customers is important. On this occasion I requested to not pay service charge only for this reason. Otherwise the food itself was actually really good - I ordered a second helping of fried prawns and the cote de beouf steak was cooked medium rare as requested! The steak could have been salted a bit more and should really be pre cut so that we don’t struggle with the blunt steak knives we were given at the dinner table but it was still good! The fudge cake and cheesecake went down a treat. So props to the chef but the waitress didn’t do the restaurant any favours. I personally won’t come here again because you can get this food in most places - what brings customers back is the experience.
Cold food absolutely nowhere near its worth for what's charged and terrible service to boot. I was here before with family a few years back and thought it to be a good date night location with my fiancée, I was wrong. We were sat for roughly 20-30 minutes before being attended to by staff, people coming in after us were able to order and receive their meals in the space of time given. When our meals came out the meat was cold, our sides that came with each meal were hotter than the mains. While the manager tried their best with damage control I can say that it is not worth a visit. Absolutely go somewhere else, complete let down.
Loud restaurant but nice hostess. Drink are decent but for a restaurant with a bull out front the burgers were badly overcooked and had zero flavor. Worse than McDonald’s, ribeye steak looked good but lacked seasoning. We also ordered 2 of the pork ribs and they too were badly overcooked. Dry and burned ribs with little BBQ sauce on the ribs meant this was a very expensive meal that was poorly prepared. Only good thing was we had a party of 11 that was seated immediately, but now we know why this place across from the Waterloo train station was empty.
Booked a table and was slightly early so as we were waiting for someone said we would get a drink at the bar. Two seats became available on the smallish bar, so we grabbed them. A waiter walked up to us and said “let me clear before you sit” to which I stood back up, he kicked the stool from behind me and grabbed what was on the bar and went back to what he was doing behind the bar. I sat back down and he came over and said “I can’t wipe it if you’re in the way” so I moved my bag and he huffed. I decided I was not prepared to pay for food or service from that moment on, so cancelled my table and left. As someone who works in hospitality, what a disgusting way to treat a customer.
The worst ribeye steak I’ve ever had. I was with a group of 15 people — 10 of us ordered steak, and all of them were terribly cooked. The meat was of very poor quality and almost raw, even though we asked for medium rare. It felt like eating raw meat. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Overpriced and low quality.
