Did I need a posh Mexican? No, but then this is the West End... I work in the area and never saw them open at lunch so jumped when I saw them open today. The flavours were fresh, delicious, and the quality excellent. Really enjoyed a proper chunky quesadilla. The Tommy's Margarita was perfect and the fish taco fresh and good. Best of all however we're the staff, I'd go there just to hang out with them. That's how nice, human, and friendly they were. The ambience makes this a better spot for dinner (I wouldn't come back for lunch unless they had a food deal), but I'm sure it is a swanky little spot if you're out in the evenings. Bit pricey for Mexican food but I'm sure it's worth it for the ambience.
Came here on a whim with a friend after craving something savoury post-dessert and I’m so glad we did. We weren’t that hungry, but the tacos blew us away. Super fresh, authentic flavours (those corn tortillas were amazing) felt like someone’s grandma had fed me. I had the fish, my friend had the chicken, both delicious. The vibe is chill, the staff are lovely, and shoutout to Connor behind the bar super attentive and clearly loves what he does. We ended up calling another friend to join us because we were having such a good time. She got the sea bass ceviche and was just as impressed. Later we headed downstairs where a DJ was playing great music, great energy, felt like a real community vibe. Definitely my new go to for an after work drink or quick bite. Some reviews complain about portion sizes, but this place is about quality over quantity. For central London, the price is great and the food’s the real deal. Plus, £1 tacos when you order a cocktail? Say less. We’ll be back for sure.
La Bodega Negra = birthday magic unlocked! This hidden gem in Soho knows exactly how to throw down — moody lighting, killer playlists, and cocktails that will absolutely wreck your willpower (in the best way). The Spicy Mango Margarita was so good (had to order another round), and the El Rayo Paloma kept the party vibes alive. Food-wise, we loved the Totopos with herbed guac and heritage pico de gallo (honestly could've eaten three more plates) and the Quesadilla Rustica — pure comfort food heaven. The fingerling potatoes were decent, but with a different sauce? Game-changer potential. Bottom line: La Bodega Negra brought the birthday magic. Already plotting my next excuse to go back!
the staff were very attentive and constantly checking on us so we didnt have to do that awkward dance of trying to get someones attention to order or anything, the food was stunning too. this is one of my favourite places to eat now, would be amazing for an occasion too because of the cool interior! very instagrammable
I love when places live up to the hype and this place did it for me! Amazing and friendly service from our waitress (I didn't grab her name but you know who you are girl;) ) Very happy with the food selection and the chocolate mousse was a hit for me. Can't wait to be back.
I really like it here, it’s easy to walk past and not realise it’s a restaurant, but once you go through the door and down the stairs it’s a great restaurant/bar with a cool atmosphere. As long as you’re ok paying high central London prices, and also ok with slightly aloof service from the waitresses, then you’ll be rewarded with some incredible food.
A speakeasy basement vibe restaurant with exposed brick and dim lighting. A sideways piano as a divider is brilliant. The iberico pork and chicken tacos are amazing and I will be coming back just to get them again!
An Incredible Latin American Dining Experience La Bodega Negra Restaurant delivered an unforgettable experience! The flavors were vibrant, the presentation flawless, and the staff welcoming and attentive. While the food arrived all at once and before the drinks, this minor timing issue didn’t overshadow the exceptional quality. A truly authentic taste of Latin America—5/5!
Wow What an amazing venue. From the exciting neon peep show shopfront to the sultry lit stairways leading down to candlelit wine cellars decorated amazingly. Such a vibe The staff were friendly and approachable and attentive and all looked amazing! The food was unreal. Special shout-out to the chicken and pork belly tacos The tequila flight was a special add on and was really interesting tasting 3 unique tequilas along with our meal The music was brilliant and really added to the vibe and setting Highly recommend
We had a lovely time on Saturday evening with tasty food and great service. Our waitress was particularly helpful and even modified some cocktails to suit one of us. A brilliant experience and we shall be back. Thanks
Boyfriend surprised me with a romantic birthday dinner at this divine restaurant. It’s hard to find good Mexican places but the food was fresh, well prepared and super tasty. We also enjoyed the general quirky vibe of the place. We recommend 5-6 plates (one or two larger main options) between two people if you’re hungry but want to leave room for dessert. The tequila selection is extensive… Good luck 😊
My husband and I loved La Bodega Negra!🩷 Leonardo was extremely friendly and very helpful. Leonardo made our experience mucho enjoyable 😀 The food was amazing and so delicious! Hibiscus 🌺 Margaritas were delicious as well. The atmosphere was lovely 🌺😘 Guava dessert was so delicious 😋 We highly recommend this restaurant! Go México great food around the world 🇲🇽
Thank you for an exceptional evening. The food was exquisite and beautifully presented. The service was attentive with levels of exceptional customer service, clearly a very highly trained team of very cool people. This is a very cleverly curated place to go for a unique and memorable experience. I will be returning very soon 🙏
Great vibes in the underground restaurant with delicious food and some of the best margaritas I have ever had. Staff were lovely and welcoming. There is a bar area you can hang out in and have more drinks after your meal too.
The food was unreal. Probably the best guacamole I’ve ever had and that takes into consideration allot of tropical counties we’ve visited. The service as fast, attentive, and very warm. Both of our servers were top notch. Even had some laughs with the manager. (Our first waiter Bruno looked just like Messi) highly recommend this place and don’t be fooled by the exterior like we were when we hesitantly opened the door to see if the place no longer existed 🫣🫠😂. And they have 1942 🤤. This place will be an official staple of any visit to London. I hope whoever reads this has an equally spectacular time 🥳🥳🥳
Tucked away in the vibrant heart of London, La Bodega Negra is a gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. From the moment you step through its unassuming entrance, you’re transported into a world where culinary artistry and lively ambiance collide. The food at La Bodega Negra is nothing short of spectacular. Each dish is a masterpiece, crafted with care and precision that reflects the chef's dedication to flavor and presentation. The menu is a delightful journey through Mexican cuisine, with each bite bursting with authenticity and zest. The standout dishes, rich in spices and fresh ingredients, showcase the chef's remarkable ability to elevate traditional flavors into something truly extraordinary. Whether you opt for the tantalizing tacos or the delectable enchiladas, every mouthful is a testament to the chef's skill and passion. But it’s not just the food that makes La Bodega Negra a must-visit; the drinks are equally impressive. The cocktail menu offers a vibrant array of options that cater to every palate, and the service is swift and attentive. Our glasses were never empty, and the staff’s recommendations were spot-on, enhancing our dining experience even further. To top off our meal, we celebrated a birthday, and the thoughtful addition of a sparkling candle transformed the evening into a special occasion. Finding La Bodega Negra might be a bit of a treasure hunt, but trust me, it’s worth the search. This establishment beautifully captures the essence of what makes dining out a joy: great food, fantastic service, and a welcoming environment. If you find yourself in London, make it a point to visit La Bodega Negra — you won’t be disappointed!
Really liked this place - we got a table at 5.30 through the first table app - before going to a show. Great entrance - old Soho peep show! Just went for the small plates / starters - very good and very filling + some great veggie options. With the fist table deal it was good value in a great central venue.
Innovative Mexican cuisine. Friendly and efficient service. Interesting cocktail menu and long list of tequilas and mezcal. Ceviche was excellent but a small portion. Guacamole was scintillating. Asperagus was generous but the green mole would be even better with a bit of lemon or Herby accent. Brilliant tacos, the right size to scoff two or three. Revisited the kinky downstairs branch. Brilliant service. Fun cocktails. Mexican food without gorp! Tasty and fresh.
Cool dinner spot hidden away in Soho! Lovely restaurant that we found on First Table and it had great atmosphere and food :)
Loved Bodega Negra - great atmosphere and decor here. They had an awesome happy hour from 4-7pm, every Monday to Friday, where 2 margaritas were £15, which was a great deal. I had both the regular margarita and the hibiscus margarita. Both were delicious but the hibiscus was a showstopper. We had the guacamole to start, as well as the prawn tostada - both were excellent and good portions. We finished with the lamb taco, which came with two small tacos, and had amazing flavour. Would definitely come back and would be a great date spot!
The food here was amazing! Tacos was really flavourful and the lamb barbacoa was such a treat! The DJ was great and the whole vibes is just really hip. I love it and will definitely be coming back!
Absolutely love love loved this place. Highly recommend. The atmosphere, service and music was great. Really fun night out. Cocktails and food were also amazing. Best Mexican food I've had in London. Great place for a group wanting good food and fun vibes.
Had a very fun Saturday dinner at LBN. Food is surprisingly oriental and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the ceviche along with the tequilas the most. The staff is really attentive and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is really unique. This is one of those places that you are guaranteed to get a special experience and it’s worth booking in advance in order to enjoy it!
Amazing service today, first time to the restaurant and our waitress was so professional, knowledgeable on the menu and so so helpful, food was delicious and atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed and the music was really nice, was told about the evenings and the live music, will definitely be back again,
Excellent vegan menu. Also a load of their cocktails can be virginised and are super tasty like a jalapeno margarita. Moody dark vibes. Loved it.
Such a lovely date night spot. Would highly recommend the guacamole, fish tacos and lamb barbacoa. The lamb especially was so tender and melt in the mouth. There’s a lot of tequila based cocktails, so we let our server choose a few for us and they were fantastic.
What a cool restaurant! Not only was the vibe unique but the food was SO good. There was a vast selection of cocktails and tequila to add to your meal. It felt like you were transported o Mexico for the night. Make sure to book as bookings full up quick.
Came for Cazeleons drag brunch, with a set menu. We were quite a large party of 8 so we already had adjusted expectations having been to a few bottomless brunches as a gang, and knowing that you can generally expect slightly slower service and small portions of food. When we were seated we were shown the menu and started making our choices- we were very shocked when the waitress told us that everything on the menu would be served - about 5 courses all in! The food itself was faultless- hot and staggered to allow us to graze. The Cevice was the standout dish but the tacos were also noteworthy. The Guac was to die for. We had bottomless margs which were flowing constantly with no delay or wait- a rarity for a bottomless brunch! The vibe and atmosphere were fabulous- the drag show and fire artist kept things entertaining but plenty of breaks allowed everyone to talk and catch up. They let us stay a little longer for extra drinks at the bar and we were given as fond a farewell as the welcome we recieved. Well worth the £65 a head which I think would have covered the food alone- but with a show and bottomless booze it feels like a complete steal.
Delicious food, attentive service and tasty cocktails. This little gem was right next to the theatre and was just what we needed. Definitely best to book. Wonderful experience. Loved the Sea Bass!
Absolutely love this place always such a good vibe with super friendly and welcoming staff. The decor is great, the cocktails can be lethal so they need to be respected 😂 The food is awesome, I wouldn’t even like to guess how many tacos I could eat 🤤 Not the lightest on the wallet but it’s well worth 👌🏻
Absolutely amazing Service food and atmosphere all A grade Thank you for an amazing dinner in-between shows Food looked and tasted amazing
Went here for a last minute dinner with friends and couldn’t have had a better experience in terms of food and service. It was not too busy (which I liked for a Sunday). We were greeted by a very welcoming lady called Gunda who took us to the table and recommended dishes and answered to all our questions. Recommended!
Beautiful restaurant. Delicious food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. We really recommend it to our family and friends. See you soon!
Chicken tacos were delicious, wish we had ordered more. The decor and ambience are very pleasant. Service very quick and attentive. Food was a little pricey but not over the top. Would definitely recommend.
Leo was honestly one of the best hosts I’ve ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel welcomed and taken care of. Super professional, warm, and just naturally great at making people feel at ease. You can tell he loves what he does – everything ran smoothly, and he handled it all effortlessly. Leo wasn’t just good – he was exceptional. He genuinely made our experience amazing. Huge credit to him. He’s a star!!
I stopped by this taco spot after a shopping trip. The service was fine and the food came out quickly, which is a plus if you’re looking for something casual and fast. I ordered the crispy squid, tacos (beef, chicken, and fish), and the sea bass ceviche. The crispy squid was decent the pink sauce it came with definitely helped enhance the flavor. Out of the tacos, the chicken was the best; the beef and fish were okay but nothing special. The ceviche, unfortunately, wasn’t my favorite the lemon flavor was too overpowering and masked the other ingredients. Overall, it’s a decent place for a quick bite, especially if you’re not expecting anything too remarkable. The food is alright, but nothing that stands out.
Mexican restaurant that from the exterior masquerades as a Soho Strip joint. Once you’ve established that you are in the right place, you descend down a flight of stairs to the basement. Good selection of cocktails and tequilas. Menu has a variety of vegetarian dishes. Tried the salmon Ceviches, tempura broccoli, quesadillas and iberico pork secreto. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive and the food arrived quickly. Recommended if you need a reasonably priced meal, either pre or post theatre.
Delicious food from the set menu, and great service. Despite initially being worried by the small portion of the starter, I was left feeling full by the end of it. I had the vegan option which was delicious. The only downside I would say would be the price, it's quite expensive for something you could quite easily find elsewhere. As well as this there's a 15% service charge on large groups, so while we were already spending £700+ on the food and drinks, the service charge bumped it up to over £850.
La Bodega Negra is a culinary gem that left a lasting impression, especially with its splendid grilled octopus. This hidden treasure offers a vibrant and inviting atmosphere that sets the stage for an exceptional dining experience. The star of the show was undoubtedly the grilled octopus. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, flavorful, and expertly seasoned. Each bite was a delightful combination of smoky charred exterior and succulent, melt-in-your-mouth flesh. It was a true testament to the culinary expertise of the chefs at La Bodega Negra. The dining experience at La Bodega Negra goes beyond the exceptional grilled octopus. The lively ambiance, attentive service, and carefully curated menu create a truly memorable affair. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends, this hidden gem promises an unforgettable journey of flavors.
Excellent atmosphere, wonderful service and great main dishes and small plates. The tacos are not the best but the ox cheek, seabass ceviche and cheesecake are all delicious. Excellent drinks menu too, the mezcal is 🔥🔥🔥
Interesting set up for a restaurant. It is well situated in soho. The food was amazing, and the service was quick.
We attended in a Sunday evening and it seemed to be a calm place. I think there is a live show on Saturday so the atmosphere will probably be different. I recommend quesadillas del pastor and chicken tacos. The cheesecake was not bad but I don’t think it was homemade. In summary I would say quality not bad, quantity a bit small, price expensive.
Very friendly waiter. Interior is very clean. Good selection of drinks. Food was lovely but portions were small. Worth checking out :)
The food was good but they were understaffed which affected the service. Recommend the fish tacos. The desserts were underwhelming.
We went for our anniversary. We really liked the style of the restaurant—it was very nice. We were seated, but they forgot to bring us water. Then they brought us a plate of tacos we didn’t order (they had the wrong table). Our food came out very quickly, even before the drinks we had ordered. We had to ask for water ourselves. The food is quite expensive for the portion sizes they offer. The tables are very close together, and to get to your seat, you have to bother the people at the next table. It’s not a quiet place to eat, as there are a lot of tables and everyone is shouting. You basically have to yell to have a conversation with your date. Overall, it was not a good experience.
The restaurant itself is lovely and the ambience is great. However, most of the food was average at best, and the service wasn’t anything special. The seabass ceviche was definitely the best thing we ordered, and the quesadilla was by far the worst. The prawn tacos were ok, not the most flavour. All our food was brought out at the same time which meant our mains went cold whilst we were eating our starters. Overall it was fine, but I won’t be going back anytime soon.
A great experience, you walk in to what is displayed as an adult shop very funny and exciting. Once downstairs it is a cosy and private restaurant with a good atmosphere. The service is excellent but unfortunately the main let down is the food. The food is average at best, very small portions and very expensive. But, the cocktails are gorgeous. I would go back, but it would be with a group of people as it is more about the atmosphere than the food.
This place is quite ok for cocktails and cake. As an overall experience I would say this was a roller coaster. They had tables free but they didn’t want to seat two people on them so they placed us in the bar. Not a great start of the evening. Some of their cocktails were quite watery and mediocre for the price they charge. They good portions are quite the joke. I’d honestly not even bother. Nothing unique or worthy of the visit. They chocolate cafe was quite nice so I’d give credit there but apart from that …
Let me tell you right now…. This place is OVERRATED. Outside: pretty. Vibe: cool. Food: BASIC, BORING, BLAND, SALTY, EMBARRASSING. I ordered a hibiscus margarita, as recommended by my server, I wasn’t a huge fan and she didn’t take on my feedback but tried to reframe my feedback (I said it was sour and not as sweet as I’d expect, she suggested it was floral). Also when I drank maybe two thirds a server went to take it away, I had to tell them I was not finished yet. Tap water kept staying filled which was good. We ordered the quesadilla which was… a tortilla with melted cheese on top what looked like mayonnaise pasted across it and maybe some pesto? It probably cost less than a quarter of its sale price to make. We got the tender stem broccoli/green vege and it was DROWNED in soy sauce. Drowned. The octopus was not nice. It’s not usually my cup of tea tho and this was definitely not it. The chicken al pastor tacos were maximum 4 out of 10. No dish was good or great, nothing exceeded any expectation. I’ve had better food in MANY other places in SoHo. I would therefore NOT recommend this place. How do you give feedback in a restaurant when every dish is bad? Overpriced for underwhelming flavour, taste and experience.
The menu includes a mixture of dishes mainly from Mexico but there are dishes from other regions of South America as well. Service was excellent. Food was not. Prices were too high for what is offered. To pay £11 for a single taco is ridiculous. The ceviche was not well balanced. The leche de tigre was so acidic that you could not taste the fish at all. We ordered the lamb barbacoa. It comes with just a few tortillas so you are forced to order more. In fact we had to order 2 extra portions of tortillas to finish all the meat. Tortillas are very cheap to make, even when getting the Mexican flour they are very cheap. So it is quite cheeky to only give you a few in a portion to charge you more for another portion. The same goes for the sauces. They bring you 2 tiny bowls of salsa that you finish in less than 5 tacos. We had to order 3 extra portions of salsa. And of course you are charged extra for them. The lamb barbacoa was ok. They bring you some pulled lamb at the bottom of the plate which is quite bland but they also give you a lamb chop which was delicious. If the shredded lamb had the same flavour as the chop the dish would be amazing. Another petty bad thing is the lack of hot sauces. We asked for hot spicy sauce and the answer was "we are not allowed to serve hot sauces" By who? It is a mexican place. You are expecting hot sauces!!!!! They only thing they could get for us was a chopped jalapeño which obviously lacks all the other flavours from a nice hot sauce. It was a disappointing meal.
