We ended up at Mei Ume on a whim after being let down by the restaurant we were originally booked with. On my birthday of all days! Thankfully Mei Ume had space for the two of us. We went for the set menu and were very impressed. The food was incredible, every course blew us away. I could write a paragraph about every individual dish we ate, but I’ll spare you the details and just tell you, it was perfect. All the staff were lovely and very accommodating, I even had a small birthday treat which was a lovely surprise considering we were walk-ins and the meal hadn’t been planned in advance. We will ABSOLUTELY be back!
We searched for Mei Ume for 30 mins even though it was a 2 minutes from the hotel. Glad we found it!!!, superb. Can’t thank Eden enough for explaining the dishes and the wonderful service. Very nice atmosphere, beautiful decor and exceptional service.
An absolutely brilliant restaurant. We (two adults) had dinner at Mei Ume and enjoyed every single dish. We also enjoyed the cocktails (I had the pear one) and sparkling tea drink which was courtesy of the establishment. Food: We were comfortable with sharing plates. We wanted to try their signature dishes. I ordered the Half Peking Duck and Lobster Two Ways served as lobster sashimi and lobster soup. We ordered the tofu from the selection of small plates. My husband also wanted the wagyu on hot stone but we will have to return for that. What we ordered was more than enough food for us. Everything was beautifully executed and that lobster sashimi was truly a treat! Cocktails: delicious and unusual. Dessert: Mei Miao, with a chocolate shell in the shape of the cat artwork that greets guests upon arrival. It’s delightful and light. Ambiance: for a big hall with high ceiling, it was surprisingly not loud. Loved the plum blossom accents throughout. Service: food and drinks arrived quickly and the staff were prompt in clearing out empty dishes afterwards. Faultless service led by a warm and personable General Manager. Thank you very much, Annie!
We had a wonderful time at Mei Ume for a birthday celebration. Restaurant decor was beautiful and service was excellent. Everyone was lovely but Lorant deserves a special mention. We were impressed by how friendly, attentive, and thoughtful he was. The attention to details he provided during dinner made us feel well looked after. Thank you for the wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.
Absolutely amazing dinner, we were made to feel so special, but still very comfortable. Staff were all amazing, especially our lovely waitress Noy, who took her time to make amazing recommendations and was so attentive without being intrusive. The food was incredible, especially the wagyu sushi roll with truffle, caviar AND gold leaf! The sommelier, Go, was very kind knowledgeable, and Annie the manager made us feel like we were the only people in the room! We also met Eden, who was so sweet. A lovely atmosphere and a perfect meal, thank you :)
The restaurant is really cosy with staffs are very delicate. Sushi and dim-sum are my fav dish, however the wagyu A5 in the hot stone is really delicious as well. Moreover, I love the cake with the strawberry sauce that melts in my mouth! And finally they gave me an ice cream with “congratulations” on it cuz it’s my graduation day 🎉 Thanks a lot for an amazing dinner!!!
The service was perfect and it was sooo appreciated! Special thanks to Art the restaurant manager was so special to us and gave us an amazing service! The meals were so delicious and meticulously prepared we had an excellent time here!! We’re 100% returning !
It’s been a whole year since my last visit to Mei Ume and the food didn’t fail my year-long yearning! Love the lobster as always. Special thanks to Raymond — his service was definitely top in the city if not in the nation. Haven’t met someone who’s so friendly, attentive, and good at recommending dishes that 100% satisfy our taste buds! See you soon Mei Ume~
Worth the price. The restaurant is well situated in City, hidden in Four Seasons and surrounded by office buildings. The design and the whole environment fits well with the dish they serve. It is a harmonious fusion of modern and Chinese/Japanese cuisine and an ideal choice for business luncheon. All the dishes they serve are delicious and delicate. The Wagyu keeps the tenderness of the steak and the “umami” of the beef. As they also serve seafood, I will recommend the sushi and the fish they serve. The Peking Duck and the orange pork rib are the must try for me. I used to hate orange pork ribs, but the one here is different.
What can I say. I wanted a special evening for my partner and that's exactly what I got. I googled best Asian cuisine in London and this was the top result. We were welcomed at the door and taken to the table. At every point we were treated very well and looked after in the best possible way, and in particular by Johnathan. He was the star of the show and after being guided by him on my first course, I let him guide me to the two subsequent courses. He was bang on with all his descriptions and knowledge, without having to check everything with the chef. I was given a separate menu on account of me being vegetarian, so it was nice to have a full menu choice, rather than a token option. The 'normal' menu is equally exciting. Everything was fantastic, yes, it doesn't come cheap, but in this location the food is amazing and the welcome make it an event, not just a meal out. Would I go again, yes, there is no question here. But it will be a place to visit for special occasions. There is so much on the menu to try. So I feel compelled to go just to tryout something new, and experience the foodgasm multiple times.
Set within Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, Mei Ume offers two distinct fine dining Asian cuisines, serving Chinese and Japanese dishes with a modern approach in Tower Hill. Showcasing two of the greatest Asian cuisines under one roof, the restaurant presents a colourful selection of sushi, sashimi and Chinese main course dishes. Mei Ume Chef De Cuisine is Peter Ho, having grown up in Singapore, Chef Peter is no stranger to the rich diversity of Asian cuisine and draws on influences from his hometown. Thank you Annie Hu-Thornton who did look after us, such a great service from her and her team ❤️ Sharing the fabulous menu for your next visit Yellowtail Carpaccio Truffle Ponzu Dressing Soft Shell Crab Peppercorn Salt, Celery Leaf, Fresh Chili, Fried Egg Yolks Dim Sum Platter Prawn, Octopus, Chicken Dumplings 6 pcs Double Boiled Tofu Soup Crab Meat, Chicken Consommé Peking Duck Pancakes, Cucumber, Shredded Leek, Duck Sauce Grilled Hamachi Kama Grilled Yellowtail Collar, Chille, Spring Onion, Radish Soya Sauce Grilled US Prime Ribs Wild Honey Kotteri Sauce, Sesame Paste Hokkien Seafood Noodles Prawn, Scallop, Chinese Chives, Samba Sauce Crunchy Vegetables Tender Stem Broccoli, Mangetout, White Fungus Fried Ice Cream Panda Leaves & Coconut Ice Cream, Banana Coulis
Absolutely amazing food! They serve an interesting mix of Japanese and Chinese dishes. We tried both types and they were all very tasty. The service was equally good, with everyone being super friendly and attentive. Being within the Four Seasons, the prices are as expected. If I had one tiny complaint, it would be that a couple of the menus we were given had a small food (oil?) stains. Anywhere else this wouldn't even be noticed but at this restaurant, at this price, everything should be perfect. They could also probably do with a change in the type of music they play but that's a personal choice.
I do not know where to start, i went yesterday on a Monday, 18th of November at 7pm i am soo glad i made a reservation because it got busy, and even today i am still drooling at the thought of the crispy, yet meaty and succulent peking duck, it’s almost been a whole 24 hrs and i still can’t take it off my mind. Wakame salad was a little too salty for my liking but it was meh, okay and for £13 i personally wouldn’t buy it again The spicey Edamame, was okay and for £6 the price was decent Xia Long Bao (chicken dumpling) now for £10 you get one big dumpling, yes might be a little pricey but man it’s worth it, perfect starter, the chicken broth soup within the dumpling really packs a punch and burst with umami, you can feel your stomach turning its gears to start up the engine to consume more, really warms you up and gives you a burst of energy, be careful when drinking the soup out of straw, you may burn your mouth as i did haha, but definitely worth it Octopus Siu Mai was nice, you get 3 small dumplings, the inside contents are beautiful, the octopus cooked to perfection and when dipping it into the chilli oil really brings it all together for £18 I'd recommend it, though the Xia Long Bao is my favourite out of the 2 Caviar O Toro Nigiri, right i want to begin by saying never have i ever had such a premium piece of Tuna in my life until i went to Mei Ume, wow, just wow, the tuna wasn’t fishy, it was meaty, i am usually not a fan of Tuna nigiri, but this? Was a level of its own, truly magnificent 10/10 Yellow tail Nigiri, very sweet and buttery very good grade Salmon Nigiri, you can’t go wrong with salmon nigiri wherever you go and this place was no exception, very nice Aburi Salmon Maki, it was good but not amazing, the truffle mayo was nice, it brought an element of creaminess to the maki, obviously everyones palette is different but i give it a 7/10 And finally the star of the entire night a whole peking duck, i still can not comprehend nor gather my thoughts, with each morsel i became more gluttonous, i just wanted more and more fyi its about 8000 calories, but that didn’t stop me, it felt as though this peking duck had come down from gates of heaven itself and descended onto my table, words can not to justice, it was sweet, crispy, fatty, juicy, succulent, the array of umami bursting with flavours and textures in your mouth, my tongue felt like a little boy looking up to the night sky to see the wonderful display of fireworks on new years eve, i felt truly humbled and grateful to experience the finery of Chinese cusine, and the fact that it was halal, brought tears to my eyes as i was able to experience it, 100/10, as it is beyond perfection, just wow After all of that we had to take a break before the mains, the waitresses were very understanding, bless them They then brought out the mains Saffron lamb, now let me just say i was stuffed and even then i fell in to pure euphoria, it was soo tender and soft, yet it held extraordinary depth of flavour, even though i was full from all the food i just ate, that dish was phenomenal and the way the fat would just melt and coat your palette, truly a dish fit for a king 10/10 Black pepper angus beef fillet, it tasted very similar to a south asian dish called achari gosht, it transcended me back to my own roots, the spices and flavours felt very homely and filled me with joy 10/10 foie gras fried rice, the beautifully cubed foie gras was crisp to the touch of the outer shell, yet still moist within, the rice was beautiful cooked, all the ingredients mixed together truly heightened the dish 10/10 I'd like to note though they take pride in their meats being halal, only the wagyu beef isn’t halal, also pork and alcohol are served on the premises so do let them know if you’re Muslim so they know not to cross contaminate Everyone there was amazing and though it is a very fancy restaurant, the stuff made it feel very welcoming and homely, i am definitely coming again and this time bringing my whole family haha
Loved it so much we dined here twice during our stay at The Four Seasons! London has so much to offer in terms of great dining but Mei Ume's menu is full of such great options, we literally tried to sample everything possible! Highly recommend if in City of London area.
It was one of the best food experiences that I've had. The restaurant is cosy, and the staff gives you tips to get the best of these flavours. It's very good to go in small groups and order the shareable options. Strongly recommend the Wasabi King Prawns.
4.5 stars ! I guess is a good gauge of the place. Excellent hospitality and service :) Great ambiance and atmosphere/ decor ‘ Food was very good too ! We tried the squid / dim sum/ prawn tempura / black cod / noodles / sushi etx Meal for two is easy £200/- maybe with 1 bottle of cheaper wines Verdict is 4.6/5 Very good overall Japanese/ Chinese / Sushi place There is too much competition in this cuisine in London so not sure if will come back again.
Mei Ume is a restaurant with a relaxed yet elegant design that speaks high gastronomy from the moment you walk through the entrance. My friend and I wanted to try some of the best Asian food London has to offer, so Mei Ume seemed like the perfect place for us. The service was excellent, the staff kept the food and wine flowing at a perfectly steady rate, describing every dish and why the wine was chosen to pair it. The deep fried squid with salted egg was a combination of flavours and textures that excited the senses. The exquisite combinations kept coming. Their soft shell crab was subtly spiced with peppercorn salt and we both loved this dish. Fish was next for us and the steamed Chilean seabass with ginger and spring onion in soy sauce was something neither of us have tried before but both couldn't get enough of. It is worth a trip to Mei Ume just for this. Stir fried native lobster with ginger and spring onion came later and it was served on a bed crispy noodles beautifully. The final course began with a chocolate moelleux and green tea powder ice cream, one of the best desserts I've had this year. Then we finished with the iced mochi selection of matcha, coconut, mango and yuzu; absolutely refreshing and tasted amazing. Your time in London wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Mei Ume!
Delectable food. Went with the 5 course menu offered in collaboration with Timeout, and found it very good value for money. - The gin and sake based cocktail was excellent, and was accompanied with Edamame. Also ordered the sharing cocktail later, which was very refreshing! - The tofu in the miso soup just 'melted' in the mouth - The mushroom dumpling was especially good, the scallops and prawn ones were good too - The sashimi was delicious, especially the salmon - Loved the wagyu beef dish served for mains, and the prawn with orange dressing was great - Ordered desserts a la carte since not part of the menu, were alright - Petit fours on the house ;)
This place is very interesting, can’t really make up my mind, the food is pretty good, a few excellent dishes, and some just good. The decor is nice, but the place seems to be lacking a certain punchy feeling you get in high-end restaurants. It may be the lighting, but in any case it’s a very nice place inside the four seasons + you get the added benefit of enjoying some lovely artifacts on display in the four seasons lobby.
Hight Quality dining at this 5* hotel. The aesthetics of the place are beautiful and the atmosphere is up matket but relaxed. The service is top notch, friendly and happy to make recommendations. There's a vegan and vegetarian menu available. Great cocktail menu on offer too.
Restaurant up to his standards. Great food, immaculate service and very very friendly. The decoration offers a quaint atmosphere. Lovely place.
Coming to Mei Ume was my first ever Japanese food experience, I've never even had a dumpling before or wagyu beef. Coming through the four seasons interior made it feel like a magical event (and it was me and my partners 6 year anniversary, so it was already exciting). But then the greeting and seating was very comfortable, the waiters were very friendly and helped me understand portion sizes and what things mean (I learned how to use chop sticks on the spot aswell). The value is there for such a great venue and amazing food + service. Definitely will be going again, probably for a birthday or anniversary, but wow the food was to die for.
Pros: - Excellent stir fried lobster (perfect for 2). - Great cocktails, particularly the Dark Crystal. The Sleeping Dragon has a strong aftertaste, so will depend on your preference. - Service was fantastic. Our waiter (Luke Chu) was responsive, polite and dedicated. Probably one of the best waiters we've had in London in the past five years. - Great ambience and interior design. Cons: - The nigiri set wasn't amazing compared to those in specialty Japanese restaurants (of similar price points). Certain fish, e.g. tuna, did not seem up to scratch. - Tapioca Sago wasn't memorable. - Price is slightly on the higher end (about £110-150 per person). Overall rating: Around 4.5/5.
Lovely restaurant with a good choice of dishes. A little bit on the fancy side. We went for the dumplings, civiche, prawns, edemame and white wine. They also brought my friend a cute birthday cake.
Lovely restaurant, great food and lovely cocktails. Would definitely recommend a visit. Compliments to Chef Tony Truong!
Enjoyed a delicious and beautifully presented lunch at Mei Ume. The atmosphere was elegant and inviting, and the service was exceptionally warm and professional. Huge thanks to the wonderful team, and a special shout-out to Art for his attentive, friendly, and outstanding service!
Nice ambience and great food. Wasabi shrimps were lovely, Kung Pao too spicy for my taste.
I was a guest at the hotel and invited family for lunch, i thought the food was very delicious and the service excellent. The decor is beautiful and presentation of the food was also excellent. I ordered a few dishes which I recommend with a group of family or friends so you can try and share a few things. I enjoyed the food so much and anything we needed we were given right away. I especially loved the chili prawns which were large and so tasty. Food was never too oily and it was evident fresh ingredients were used First time in england and I hope to return!!! I wish I had eaten here more during my hotel stay, next time i will try the sushi.
Best roasted duck in London without any question. Niki is a master and the best waitress you can see in your entire life - she is a diamond in a gold box! I went 3 times to this place within 5 days.
Very nice and cozy atmosphere. When you arrive, you are greeted by a statue of a red cat! Very friendly service. Had dinner here on 1/1/2025 and all the staff greeted us and wished us a happy new year. The portion sizes for the prices are unreasonable. We ordered dimsum as well as larger dishes to share. The xiaolongbao is charged by per piece and they served it with a straw to drink the bao. The peking duck had a good taste, but definitely not worth the price they charged for. I recommend the scallops (they come in threes), which are prepared on a cart in front of your table. I also enjoyed the dessert menu. We ordered mochi and the fried ice cream (comes with a delightful peanut butter drizzle). The food was good (delicious but not anything extraordinary).
Hidden in the four seasons hotel near Tower of London, upscale and Chinese/Japanese fine dining, defo more of a fusion place than super authentic. But I did really like the braised pork belly, it was incredibly tender and melt in your mouth and the yellowtail carpaccio was very nice. Wagyu roll was also great, and the service was good too. A bit expensive so it will be more of a special occasion kind of thing.
I thought the food here was nice, but not good value for money - I was expecting something amazing. We went to mei ume before the pandemic and it was significantly better then. We had the vegan dim sum platter - one of the three types of dim sum were over steamed and soft. We had the hakka noodles which were also overly soft and not chewy and stretchy as you might expect. The vegan duck was really great! Very enjoyable and something different. (Though Mei Ume used to serve a proper vegan duck pancake.... they should bring this back, that was amazing!!!) We had the vegan sushi which was nice too. The red wine was really lovely - wines are not marked vegan or not vegan on the menu. And the stand out for me was the old fashioned. Overall we paid around £180. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were so nice. We had a really great time which is why I've given four stars overall. I would like to see more vegan tofu options on the menu.
Lovely interior, attentive service, highly skilled cooking and unquestionably top quality ingredients. You can stop reading and go there now - if money is no object, or want to impress upon your guests that money is no object even as you grin and bear the £38 for a few meagre pieces of Chilean sea bass.
A beautiful restaurant providing delicious Japanese and Chinese cuisine. - Stunning yet relaxed ambience - Attentive, knowledgeable staff - Extensive menu (beautifully illustrated and bound) contains a great variety of food - Comprehensive drinks and cocktail offering (I had a particularly good Bloody Mary here) - Menu items are relatively expensive, but not excessively so when the quality is considered - Opening times seem a little odd. The restaurant closes quite early (potentially due to it being housed within the Four Seasons Hotel) AMEX accepted 💳✅
Tasty food. The vegetarian option was ok, lacking the wow factor. Overall, the experience was nice and met the expectation.
I had a really nice time here. The food was really nice and the service was 10/10. The waiters and staff were really lovely. I would definitely go back!
Visited this restaurant for my wife's birthday, service was great and food was nice. The chicken buns didn't really taste of much and the kung poa chicken main was drowning with pepper corns. Everything else we really enjoyed
Excellent atmosphere, reasonably priced (for a high-end fine dining). not perfect because of seasoning: some dishes such as peking ducks were far too salty (both courses) where pork belly was under seasoned, sweet & sour soup also slightly over seasoned. Will probably visit again though, after all there aren't many peking duck places in London.
Amazing experience! We chose the 9 course seasonal menu and we specified halal dietary beforehand. Loved the sparking tea! We also ordered the chicken xiao long bao separately and it was delicious! Every dish was delicious, I personally didn’t like the lamb shank though, the sauce was abit weird for me but the meat texture was good and the portion was quite big… Service was excellent but the staff served us Chinese wine for the flaming snail dish lol maybe she forgot our halal dietary :) definitely will come back and try their lunch menu! Oh and the head chef came out and greet us/ the customers which I think it’s quite nice!
We had the set menu (Osmanthus) for dinner and a lot of the dishes were fantastic, especially the Peking Duck which is stellar and quite special. I would say it's worth going to this restaurant even if you'll just have the duck. On the other, the rather expensive cocktail I tried did not live up to expectations, it tasted almost like a simple soft drink. The dessert was also disappointing, it had a nice fresheness to it but almost no flavour. The service was great, very attentive and down to earth which I appreciated.
Restaurant Review: Mei Ume – A Mixed Experience I had dinner at Mei Ume on March 15, 2025, eagerly anticipating a dining experience that would truly blow me away. While the service and atmosphere were outstanding, the food did not quite meet my expectations, and the long wait times were disappointing. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and seated promptly. The service was exceptional, with knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff. I asked for a dish that would truly impress me, and without hesitation, our waiter recommended the signature duck dish, which could be ordered as either half a duck (£60) or a whole duck. Another waiter also highly recommended the same dish, and we were informed that if we chose the duck pancakes, the chef would present and carve the duck tableside for a special showcase. However, when we opted for the half duck, this promised experience did not happen. Instead, the duck arrived already sliced and was only lukewarm at best. We had to send it back to be properly reheated. While the duck itself was cooked beautifully, the crispy skin was too thin, lacking the satisfying crunch I expected. The accompanying sauce was overly thick, very sweet, and salty, which overpowered the dish and lingered on the palate. As for the other dishes: • Yellowtail Carpaccio – This was my favorite dish of the night. It was light, flavorful, and delicious—a standout on the menu. • Soup Dumpling – We were told we could sip the soup inside the dumpling using a straw, but there was barely any soup despite its size. Disappointing. • Hakka Noodles – The flavors were just okay, but once again, the sauce was overpowering. It wasn’t a dish that stood out. • Roasted Black Cod (£42) – Delicate, fresh, and very tasty, though for the price, the portion could have been more generous. • Mango & Pandan Sago Dessert – A delicious and well-balanced dessert that I would definitely recommend. • Fresh Mint Tea – A great way to end the meal, helping with digestion. While the service was impeccable, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the food didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Some dishes were excellent, while others fell short—either due to overpowering flavors, portion sizes, or missing elements of the promised experience. Additionally, the wait times were longer than expected, which added to the overall disappointment. Had we chosen the whole duck, perhaps we would have experienced the tableside presentation as promised. However, as it stands, I left feeling that the food didn’t quite justify the price. The manager did surprisingly take off the duck off our bill which was also very kind. A pleasant experience overall, but not one that left me blown away. Thank you, Matt
Honestly speaking we expected much more from this restaurant. I wouldn’t say it’s bad but it’s also not wow. Just a normal restaurant with over the roof prices. The service also wasn’t great. Had to wait for ages. Then when we almost finished the wine the waiter just took it. Even though there was still half a glass. We tried the duck and the signature dish Lobster. If that is a signature dish than I don’t expect much from the rest. It was really bland and tasteless with some weird noodles. The duck was good but the pancakes were like frozen pancakes from the shop, not even heated. Weird tempura shrimp for starter. Much better restaurant in London, where you can pay less and receive much better service and food.
Interesting concept of mixing Chinese and Japanese food. Tasty food and very nicely plated, but not the freshest sashimi (eat Tokyo is way better at a fraction of the price). Also ordered the whole Peking duck cooked two ways. First was duck pancake and the second was a duck stir fry with not so much duck in there. Where did the rest of the whole duck go?! Would only visit again if someone else is paying!
Good food, especially peking duck. Service feels cheap, trying hard to inflate the bill. For example one of us was drinking beer, when he received a brand new glass of beer, the waitress also poured him a full large glass of sake, finishing the bottle while his wife's glass was almost empty.
This was our second time at Mei Ume. The first time in 2018 we loved the experience, this time not so much. Let’s start with the positive: Housed inside the Four Seasons Hotel, the venue is - as you can imagine - breathtaking. Cosy dark wood, soft leather, beautiful artwork and decoration (10 out of 10). The reception was friendly and professional. We were ushered to our table and the sommelier and our waiter greeted us. So far, so good. We had booked the 7-course tasting menu. My husband had the wine pairing, which turned out not to be a paring at all. It were just three seemingly random wines. They were good, but absolutely no explanations about them (wineries, origin, etc.). Furthermore the wines came at odd times throughout the meal - for example the white was delivered, when the sushi selection was already served. I don’t drink wine, so I expected a non-alcoholic pairing, which was not available (?!) .I was stuck with water, a sparky tea (actually very good) and a cocktail. The first “course” - a couple of steamed edamame - arrived, when we were just settled at our table . To be honest, to call edamame with flaky sea salt a course is a stretch, but well… The Miso Soup arrived a couple of minutes later. It was okay, but rather bland and the tofu was sadly nothing special. Soon after the soup, the Sushi Selection arrived. This one was very good. The Prawn Roll was good, but the “egg yolk center” had already set when it arrived :-( Good but nowhere near perfect. Same with the Seafood Dim Sum Trinity: tasty - but nothing you couldn’t eat at the same quality at a Dim Sum place. I had the Wagyu Beef which came with black bean sauce, rice and had two dumplings sitting on top (?!). The beef was overcooked and greyish (what a shame!), the sauce was okay, but bland. The dumplings were very good (highlight!), but I still don’t know why they came with this particular dish. My husband had the Angus Beef, which was definitely the better choice. Dessert were 4 iced Mochi cakes on sticks. Again: good, but not impressive. In my opinion, the tasting menu should showcase the highlights of the menu/cuisine, but this one was extremely bland and actually boring. Everything seemed dimmed down to accommodate all palates. Nothing was bad per se, but nothing was surprising or even an explosion of flavor. Overall, the “experience” felt super-rushed. We arrived at 8:30 p.m. and were done by 22:45 p.m. (7 courses!). And while the service was friendly, there was no attention to detail, which I expect in this setting. The bill came to 500 GBP. I’m happy to pay this much money, but I expect more. More flavor, more surprise, more detail, more story, more attention. Given we are spoiled food wise, but for 500 GBP I cannot give more than 2 stars. The price-performance ratio was just not there - not by far. Reading all those glowing reviews, I wonder if we just came at a wrong day or if the tasting menu was maybe the wrong choice.
A hotel outlet, serving mainly Cantonese dishes but with a Japanese name. The ambience, seating, décor and front of staffs’ hospitality are in line of what a 6-stars hotel should be. Our food – four hot dim sum, chu-toro sashimi and fatty tuna nigiri, were all served at the same time! Huge disappointment with their Taiwanese Ali-shan tea and Japanese Shencha, expected to be of higher quality when one presents as ‘specialties’ tea, and tea is important with dim sum Some of the dishes on their menu has only brief description, but when one has ‘twisted’ a traditional dish and creates his own, I reckon it should provide more information. I wouldn’t have ordered the so-called “Hong Kong style” Young Chow fried rice should I’d had known it uses a mixture of white (presume is Jasmine) and red brown rice (I was told by the chef that’s Italian ‘expensive’ rice and no complained was ever received – my bad then) Traditional har-gau comes in rose pink colour, char-siu bun is not a ‘bun’ – I could hardly imagine how the spring-roll looks like? #魚目混珠
Went for a birthday celebration, and they gave us a dessert cake, very good! Dishes wise, they are generally too salty. Service was slow. Additionally, fire alarm was triggered during our meal, everyone had to be out of building. Sounds like it was not the first time it happened, hopefully it could be sorted out soon.
One star for the ambiance, one star for the service. I booked a Lunar New Year dinner expecting something special from the hotel’s custom New Year menu, but the dishes were extremely disappointing. Whether it was the presentation, taste, or quality of ingredients, there was nothing unique about it. The flavors were even worse than some regular Chinese restaurants in London. The kitchen team’s speed was unacceptable; the gap between dishes was as long as 30 minutes. After just two appetizers, I wasn’t even hungry anymore from all the waiting. I sincerely hope the culinary team can match the standard of the front-of-house staff. If it weren’t for the warmth and attentiveness of the service staff, I wouldn’t even bother leaving feedback. Thanks to Anne’s exceptional service, I’m willing to give the restaurant another try in the future, but I truly hope the kitchen team can live up to the brand’s reputation.
Travelled an hour by choice to get to the restaurant, seating was pretty quick and drinks order taken swiftly, however after ordering the food they then explain that one of their signature dish is not available. Not a good sign for a restaurant where you will average £125 per person to have items missing. I won’t be going back again, as I can get similar sushi items in cheaper restaurants. Spending this sort of money, you expect things you cannot get elsewhere. Choice was to leave to make the most of a bad experience. Very disappointed
I had a very disappointing experience with the reception staff. The lady at the reception was not there to provide proper service and showed no willingness to assist. Her attitude was extremely rude and unprofessional, which made a simple inquiry unnecessarily uncomfortable. Front desk staff represent the first impression of a place, and this level of behaviour is unacceptable. I hope the management will take this feedback seriously and provide better training to ensure respectful and helpful service in the future.
