If you would like to try the authentic taste of the Southern Thai food I 100% recommended you to come here. 11/10 vibes 100/10 authentic taste of food everything was fresh! (Some dishes were super HOT so be careful when you order) 10/10 service 1000% I would be back again!
A lovely unassuming Thai in central London that will not disappoint. We just walked in for lunch on an August Thursday and were pleasantly surprised to get a table immediately in an area packed with tourists, despite the Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction. We enjoyed all of the dishes we selected: the Yam Sapparot (pineapple salad), Gai Tord Hat Yai (fried chicken), Muu Hong (braised pork belly curry), Gaeng Keow Wan Gai Yord Maprao (green chicken curry) and Pudding Maprao Ohn (coconut pudding). It was all really delicious and really good value for money.
The food is exceptional every time! Chef Pon has been able to recreate a piece of Thailand in london. Hands down the best food I’ve had outside of Thailand. And the front of house, Mo, exemplifies Thai hospitality at its finest. Would eat there every day if I could 🤤
The best Thai food in London! I love how they don’t tone down the spice and everything feels authentic. Service was also great!
I passed by ChaTraMue earlier to have my Thai Milk Tea, sat there looking for thai street food, and this was the closest to where I was. I loved the whole vibe of the restaurant, limited menu which makes it so easy to make it a quick lunch spot. The waitress helped me with the menu but I came specifically for the lunch menu. I loved the morning glory, sweet and garlicky and the green curry had a mild spicy kick, enough for the lunch palate. The Hat Yai was special, crispy and very moreish. The Doraemon plastic tablecloth was a great nostalgic touch. Enjoyable visit, will revisit for another look at the menu.
Delicious food! Definitely reccomend, so tasty and lovely atmosphere and lovely staff
One of my new favourite restaurants! There was a rustic, inviting atmosphere and our server was so friendly, giving helpful recommendations on what to order, and topping up our curry sauce without us asking. Service was prompt too. The massaman curry was the best I have ever had. Their menu is very unique and the dishes can be spicy, so it is worth asking beforehand if you are sensitive to chilli. I am already looking forward to returning :)
Always incredible - never a bad meal!! The buzz and business of the restaurant is just like being in Thailand, as is the food. They serve dishes you may not have heard of or tried before from south Thailand - including stir fries and curries. The maeng da lagerita is my fav drink, but don’t skip the teas if you’re looking for a soft & they help with the heat. There is a lot of spice but the staff can help you decide. Great lunch menu & pre-theatre too for a quick bite. Also amazing for groups so you can get eveything & share. Wonderful food, lovely welcoming staff & a brilliant bustling restaurant.
Authentic little Thai restaurant next to Tottenham Court Road station. Their food was delicious and not the usual dishes one could find in the mainstream Thai restaurants. We had the pork belly and butter melon with egg as main. The fried chicken as snack. Service was very efficient and the staffs were friendly. Highly recommend this place.
OMG!! A hidden gem! This is our favorite Thai restaurant! Everything we ordered is 10/10. Absolutely delicious! We didnt know what to order so we asked the staff for recommendation and honestly the best decision ever! From starters to drinks and dessert everything is so freaking good! will definitely come back here. Portion sizes are big and the price is reasonable. And the satff! The staff are amazing! they are very sweet and friendly! Truly a hidden gem! Can’t wait to be back!
This place serves truly authentic Thai food with the perfect balance of sour, salty, spicy, and sweet — just like how it tastes back home. Every dish is full of real Thai flavors, not toned down, and absolutely satisfying. The atmosphere is simple and charming, decorated just like a local eatery in Thailand. It really feels as if you’re sitting in a typical neighborhood restaurant back home — warm, casual, and genuinely Thai. The service is excellent as well. The staff were polite, attentive, and very helpful, especially when recommending dishes to my foreign friend, who ended up loving the experience. Overall, Plaza Khao Gaeng is a great spot if you’re looking for real, home-style Thai food right in the heart of London. Highly recommended!
Easily the best, most authentic Thai food we’ve had in England so far. The flavours were unparalleled and the dishes were so layered, it was a joy to eat! They were also extremely accommodating and modified the dishes due to his shellfish allergy. Really happy with our experience here!
A hidden gem! Great food, great atmosphere and lovely staff make this a perfect place for Thai food when visiting London. In amongst the rows and rows of restaurants we stumbled upon this after a matinee today. We were taken aback by the atmosphere - not what we had expected entering the building. The smells from the kitchen were incredible and we knew we’d picked the right place. We were kindly welcomed in and taken to our table. I loved the rustic feel and the decor made it feel like we were far away from the streets of London. We immediately received complimentary water - a little bonus. I often have to ask several times for water in restaurants so was delighted we could have a drink even before we had a chance to look at the menu. The menu is simple and concise. Not too overwhelming with a good selection of starters and mains to choose from. I loved the added card some pictures of selected dishes - I spotted the ‘Morning Glory’ and instantly knew I had to have it. We also ordered the pineapple and prawn starter, the cashew and coconut dish and some chicken. The staff were all lovely. Our server Nat was extremely attentive and well mannered, checking on us while we ate to ensure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Our food arrived promptly and was cooked to perfection. The portions were big enough for two to share and we cleared our plates. I am not in London often but I will definitely be returning to this place again. 10/10 from us.
Authentic flavours, authentic atmosphere. An incredible restaurant in the heart of London with mainstays as well as lesser known dishes. All are incredibly well-seasoned, served fast and made with care. Service is prompt and staff are both friendly and helpful. Plaza Khao Gaeng is conveniently located near Tottenham Court Road Station, but is also a great dinner spot if you are shopping around in the area. Would definitely recommend and return!
Was really impressed by the flavours of the dishes here. The roti bread and Morning Glory had a divine, delicate in flavour. The crust quails egg was good, but the accompanying sauce made it an excellent dish. The Massaman curry had rich flavours, and even though I didn’t sample the fried chicken dish, the other diner said that it was amazing. Many of the dishes do have a kick to them, so be mindful of that if you’re not good with hot food. The staff were nice and attentive, they also treated us to some coconut pudding due to it being one of our parties birthday. The only qualm I had was the fact that we were a party of three, sat at a table for two and it was quite cramped. I had to sit with my legs to the side and we couldn’t easily fit all our dishes on the table.
My fave Thai restaurant in London! I’ve been going here for the past three years and I love the fact that they always have a special menu that changes. It keeps the food exciting and different. The flavours always burst in your mouth and I love spicy food too! Truly authentic and amazing food! The service was really good with helpful staff in making your decisions. Truly a gem!
One of my new fav Thai spots in London! The menu is a refreshing change to the typical Thai menus you would find. They serve authentic Southern Thai food which is bold and spicy. I must admit, I have a very high spice tolerance and even I was humbled by the food. Our friendly waitress helped explain the menu to us and rated the food based on spicy-ness. For me, the beef curry (they rated as 2/5 for spice) was quite sweet and not spicy at all for me. However the fish dish (they rated as 3/5) was extremely spicy for me so I’m not sure what the best middle ground is. Regardless, very tasty food!
Had an amazing experience at Plaza Khao Gaeng. The service was top, from start to end. We came as a walk-in and had to wait quite a bit but the host was attentive and helpful while juggling between different tasks and people. Our server, Mo, was amazing, he saw that we were waiting long so got to us quickly as we sat down and made sure that we will get our starters (fried chicken and pineapple salad) quickly. He recommended us the best food (and the dessert - the coconut-tapioca- heavenly!). He kept checking on us in a pleasant and non-disruptive way (a talent!) and made sure that we never run out of wayer and smiles. The food was so flavourful and tasty, coming in plates that can be shared. But really the service was exceptional and elevated the whole experience to the next level!
We went on a Wednesday around 7 pm and waited about 15 minutes. I’d really recommend making a reservation, because we ended up at a table in the bar area. The food was great, and for the first time since actually being in Thailand I caught real Thai aromas. We had the gaeng massaman neua, which was very tasty with a manageable spice level. It came with two big pieces of beef and two large potatoes. We also had the gung pad sator muu sap. The waitress said it was a spice level four, and I assumed that meant a Western four. It wasn’t. It was a Thai four, and the burn was intense. I ended up ordering milk tea and some lemony veggies just to cope. Overall, very tasty and it feels authentic. Just don’t underestimate the spice levels like I did.
Had my eyes on this place for years but never been lucky enough to stop by and get a seat until now! If you like spicy food which feels like traveling to Thailand this is the place. Great gluten free options and so tasty I ordered a third dish because I wasn’t ready to leave this place! Great service and speed!
Very authentic Thai food! Highly recommend the iced milk tea, glass noodles, and pork belly – all were delicious. Although seating is limited to a set time, the service was excellent and the restaurant had a lively atmosphere with affordable prices. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more from the menu!
As half Thai, this is very authentic. The dishes are all tasty and they don’t hold back on the spice - be careful bcos I deployed all sides of my napkin for this workout. Staff are friendly and service is surprisingly quick - no longer than 10min total wait for all dishes to arrive. The downside is that it’s oddly expensive for a Thai restaurant, considering no dish comes with decoration.
Amazing Authentic Thai Food in a Buzzing Spot Absolutely fantastic Thai food in a lively and vibrant setting. We tried three dishes, including several that are rarely found in typical Thai restaurants abroad each one was packed with flavour and clearly made with care. The atmosphere is casual and no-frills, reminiscent of a Bangkok street food canteen. It feels like a little piece of Thailand transported straight to London. The soft drinks were also a highlight; refreshing and not overly sweet. I highly recommend the Thai iced lemon tea. The staff were friendly and provided great customer service throughout. A must-visit for anyone craving truly authentic Thai dishes. Tip: Make sure to book if you’re going in the evening — seating is limited. We walked in and ended up sitting at the bar facing the wall, which wasn’t ideal for sharing multiple plates, but the food made up for it
Great taste and Easy to find location ! Food tastes and decor makes you feel like you dining in a local eatery in Bangkok .. certainly worth the visit plus great value for money !!!
Best Southern thai food in Central London by far! And they serve it to you without fear of spice just how they eat it in Thailand. Delicious!!!!! Highly recommend to taste real thai food.
Thai food at Plaza Khao Gaeng. Kob Tord Kamin (Frogs legs) & Gai Tord Hat Yai (Southern Thai fried chicken) and Thai Coffee. The coffee was really good because the milk they used was really creamy like condensed milk. The blue and red sprinkles that look like wax shavings turned out to be coconut. The fried chicken and frogs legs were nice especially the frog meat but the sauces that came with it typically sriracha and sweet chilli. I was expecting something like fish sauce and another zesty acidic sauce to complement.
It’s very nice place. Clean and welcome atmosphere. The staff were very nice. The taste is very authentic. Reasonable price.
Place was almost full when we walked in at 6pm. So looks best to make a reservation. Prices are on the high side but the flavours and cooking were all really good. We shared amongst just 2 pax and had to take away almost half the dishes, but we aren’t big eaters. Hence portions are fine for the prices.
Plaza Khao Gaeng offers very authentic and delicious Thai food that clearly stands out for its flavours. The service can feel a bit lacking, especially if you are not already familiar with the place, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it overall
Lovely place in central London, very authentic with amazing food, drinks and vibes. Our waitress Dream, was just a 10/10 very helpful with her suggestions and even helping us squeeze a 4th person in. Don’t miss out both of the deserts and the passion fruit mojito. The hostess that meet us at the entrance was a bit pessimistic with the seats and her energy was just off, besides that minor thing the experience was amazing and at a very good price. This is for now my favourite Thai restaurant, will go back soon.
We loved everything about this place! The food was fresh, flavorful, and 100% authentic Thai. The staff made us feel very welcome, and the atmosphere made us feel like we were in Thailand. We’ll definitely be coming back soon
The set menu is great - 3 courses and you get a really good amount of food. The massaman curry was a particular highlight but enjoyed everything. We left stuffed! Vibe and decor is great as well, as was the service. I think the price is reasonable for what you get
This place is an absolute gem, some of the best (southern) Thai food I’ve ever had, easily one of the best restaurants in London. It feels just like being in Thailand and the staff is very friendly!
I would absolutely recommend this place to all Thai food lovers! Everything we ordered, including the green curry chicken set meal and the khua kling pork, was flavourful and delicious. They put a lot of spices and chili in it, which made it so authentic. Stir fry morning glory is a MUST. One of the best Thai restaurants in London I’ve been to😋plus the service was so nice, everyone we met was friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience! Food, ambiance, service all delightful. I finally felt like going out to eat was worth the price, which rarely happens for me especially given the cost of things nowadays. Staff really made the night, they haven't let success interrupt their style. Took me right back to the street markets in Phuket in the early 2000s. Thanks for a great evening!
Fabulously authentic Southern Thai restaurant, with very good food, and Leo beer. Noisy, uncomfortable, chaotic, with cramped tables, plastic plates, twisted cutlery - it really feels like Thailand! I wish there were a few more dishes on the menu, especially a som tam, but otherwise everything is great. Service is surprisingly efficient and the cocktails are delicious!
Amazing Thai food, tastes like it came straight out of a wok in Bangkok. Unexpectedly the star was the egg and bittergoard — tons of wok hey and savoury notes. Prawn curry was thick and tangy. Fried chicken was crunchy and had the greasy flavour that comes with high heat frying. Honestly the fried pork was too spicy for me to taste anything. Problem is it’s feels extremely overpriced. Admittedly London real estate isn’t cheap, but it feels like food you can get for £10 in Bangkok. We paid £66 for four dishes and two plates of rice.
Really tasty food! Full of flavour and nicely spicy without being over the top. Everything came out quickly and was well presented. The only let-down was the drinks; both were packed with ice, which made them a bit hard to enjoy. Otherwise, a great spot for a quick, flavourful meal with good service.
Really do like it here and probably THE place that go me addicted to modern Thai! Great atmosphere and venue....waitress was pretty hard work though. Food was as I remeber - loved it! Fresh, zingy, spicey - everything you want. Definitely recommended.
Incredible lunch here, I loved the coconut and cashew side dish, I still dream of it, the beef curry was spectacular. Really recommend!! The Thai tea was delicious as well not too sweet as well!
The food tastes really good and very authentic 🍽️ Portions are okay for the price. Service wasn’t the best, which does affect the overall experience, but would I return? Yes haha, I believe one fish can’t make the whole sea rotten ka!
From the atmosphere and staff to the aroma and variety of dishes, everything felt so authentic except price that I honestly couldn’t tell whether I was in Thailand or London. A truly immersive experience! Every dish—including the desserts—was absolutely delicious. The place is quite small, so make sure to book in advance!
Amazing southern Thai cuisine. They have a small menu, but everything they serve is delicious 👌🏽 Fun environment, a bit loud and tightly packed, but that’s the vibe 🍻
Delicious food, menu is southern Thai so many of the dishes are not found in other more run of the mill Thai restaurants in the UK. An enjoyable experience overall. Although a bit odd the waiter crammed three of us onto a tiny table for two even though we were the first customers there and all the other tables were empty.
The food is generally delicious, but the portions are quite small for the price. We also asked the waiter for mild-spicy dishes but were served extremely spicy ones — we felt terrible after trying them, even though we’re very experienced with Thai and other East/Southeast/South Asian cuisines. However, this was nicely resolved when we mentioned it to another waiter: they brought us a new, genuinely mild dish and even offered an extra one for free.
Starters were very good, particularly the Miang, and there were some interesting and unique ingredients in the vegetable platter. We asked for everything เผ็ด เผ็ด, and it came properly spicy, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately one of the dishes we had, a special mutton curry was far too salty and not very good at all. Portions were also a bit mean for the price.
When people say "authentic Thai food," this is what they mean. The flavors are bold and unapologetic - not watered down or made mild for everyone. If they say something is spicy, they really mean it. I usually eat very spicy food, but the ground beef dish really hit hard! The restaurant is small and loud, but it has a fun, lively vibe. The service was excellent - friendly and fast. If you're looking for real Thai food that doesn’t hold back, this is the place. Just be ready for the heat!
While the food is undoubtedly delicious and the service was lovely, the portion sizes for the price are eye watering. It’s what you get for eating in central London, but would love for them to open up in a borough further out and maybe the rent wouldn’t be as high and they could charge less. I would recommend going if you have deep pockets, as you’ll need a few dishes to leave full. We got two mains (one of which was vegetables) and a side of rice and paid nearly £50.
Delicious food at exorbitant prices. I had been wanting to try this place for some time and ended up going unexpectedly as I was in the area. The restaurant is located in a lovely food court, but has its own private area upstairs. We didn't have a reservation and, despite there being empty tables, the person at the reception took their time seating us. The service was polite, but otherwise unremarkable. When they began to recommend a minimum number of dishes for us to share, I had a feeling things were not going to go well. Sure enough, the portions were small and the prices were large. Fortunately, the most important part—the flavours—were all there. I didn't try the other dishes (we had no intention of sharing), but I can confirm my Kaeng Som was delicious and truly spicy (perhaps the spiciest dish I have had in London!). The galangal soda also stood out with its strong flavour. The morning glory was fine. The decor is reminiscent of a Thai street food stall but with Central London prices. It's a little noisy, but you can still hold a conversation. My impression is that it's a place more suited for a quick meal with friends after work (not too many, as the space is limited) rather than a long, leisurely chat. The service charge is slightly above average and includes a donation to a charity (which you can ask to have removed). There is also a small charge for using the payment platform—but by that point, it's too late to back out of the experience. Unfortunately, the social media hype didn't live up to expectations.
The food was decent, but not quite at the same level as the best Thai places in London. The barbecued and stir fried prawns were incredible, as was the roti, but the other dishes weren't as good. Sorry to say that this is another restaurant that adds a donation on your behalf without asking, which is a horrendous practice in my book. One less star for this, it's inexcusable to continue fooling customers into paying for donations to the preferred charities of the owners, which are barely even described in the bill. Appalling behaviour.
