The food was excellent. My bone in ribeye was perfect. So juicy and tender. The tomahawk was perfect. The lobster Mac & cheese was so good too. I had no complaints and the atmosphere was pleasant. The perfect ambiance. Highly recommended. It won't be a cheap dinner, but on par with other steak houses.

The Black Bull Steakhouse in Gillette, NJ, is such a wonderful place to dine! From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome and inviting atmosphere set the tone for a great evening. The seafood ceviche salad was refreshing, full of bright flavors, and the perfect way to start the meal. The arancini balls were a small but tasty treat — crispy on the outside and perfectly creamy inside. The pistachio-crusted sole fillet was absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. To finish, the in-house made gelato was heavenly and paired so well with both the tiramisu and the hot apple strudel.The bar area had an upscale, polished feel, while the dining room felt elegant yet comfortable, making it easy to relax and enjoy the meal. Every dish and detail showed real care and passion. I can’t wait to go back — highly recommend for a special night out!

We were so pleasantly surprised by the impeccable decor and ambiance in this place. We were familiar with the location and saw the restaurant being formed and did not expect it to be so nice inside. The food and service were exceptional. We had the pistachio crusted goat cheese app, bone in filet and the sole entree and they were all perfectly cooked and flavored. We also had tiramisu for dessert and it was made in house and very good. We will definitely be back!

Black Bull is a fantastic successor to what was historically the Meyersville Inn. The staff was exceptionally professional and meticulous with our order. We started with the meatballs, which were surprisingly tender. Our main course was the Tomahawk Ribeyw for Two. We were very impressed by the cut and how carefully prepared it was. I strongly suggest visiting- we will be coming back!

We recently celebrated my son’s birthday at Black Bull, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The food was absolutely incredible—every bite felt like heaven on earth. The service was top-notch, with the staff making sure everything was perfect . The atmosphere was simply spectacular. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait to come back and tell everyone !

My wife and I were there for the first time this last Saturday. We had the tomahawk for two which was outrageously good. Cooked medium rare to perfection. For the record my wife and I finished the tomahawk in 11 minutes, beat that! Drinks were tasty and fairly priced. Lava cake and gelato for sweets. Reservations are recommended it is a very popular place.

My wife and I dined here on a Sunday night, and were so impressed that we returned on Thursday night with our family for my birthday celebration. On Sunday the restaurant was relatively empty but on Thursday it was packed because of a private event going on. That didn't affect service (absolutely superb--thank you Danny and Evan) or stop us from talking to each other (great acoustics). The restaurant is in a very pretty country setting with a large parking lot and valet service when crowded. It first opened in December 2024 and is brand new construction. It's absolutely beautiful inside. A very tasteful and elegant atmosphere that is perfect for a romantic evening or special occasion. White tablecloths throughout. The menu is extensive, and all the food is expertly prepared and delicious. Our servers were super accommodating of food allergies and preferences. Basically we had no problem customizing each dish to be exactly what we wanted. They definitely aim to please. That's why the hostess Whitney didn't hesitate to offer us a table in a different section of the restaurant when we saw that the booth we had reserved was in the midst of a noisy private party. For starters we had clams oreganata, tuna tartare, mediterranean salad (which they split in the kitchen for two people, not a problem at all), burrata salad and caesar salad. Everything was great. With dinner we had an excellent Sancerre. The sesame tuna was perfectly prepared (though a bit too much sauce in the soba noodles); the tropical grilled seafood was amazing (they customized the dish to leave out the lobster and add extra shrimp); the Porterhouse steak for 2 was actually enough for 3 and was so tender a butter knife could cut it; and a shrimp dish was superb. There are plenty of sides to choose from. The spinach and mashed potatoes were wonderful. For desert we had chocolate lava cake, sorbet and gelato with chocolate sauce. We also enjoyed a complimentary birthday gelato complete with candle and staff singing happy birthday. All our courses were perfectly spaced and we never felt rushed. It was such an enjoyable evening. The restaurant is expensive, but we definitely felt we got our money's worth taking into account great food, superb service, excellent ambiance and very generous portions. This is upscale fine dining at its best. We look forward to returning here with friends and family.

I frequent the first Black Bull restaurant in Riverdale. when I heard the owner was opening up a second location, I was eager to check it out. The menus are the same, including the specials, which makes sense because the restaurants are far apart, so you're either going to one or the other. I tried the scallops special, and it was phenomenal. It had a carrot puree, pomegranates, and so much flavor. The scallops were cooked just right. The interior is open and welcoming, and there is easy parking. I sat at the bar, which was very nice. I got there late afternoon on a Tuesday, and people were pouring in for dinner reservations. I will definitely be back to check out to eat at the restaurant.

2nd time - both superb! Food was premium on both occasions. Tomahawk for 2 is def one of my fav's, & crab cakes, amazing!! Best slightly dirty martinis...compliments of Megan! Return customer for sure. The owner very personable, and remembered our faces!

We really enjoyed the crab cake as an appetizer and split the Tomahawk for two as our entree. The amount of food served was a perfect portion. Declined dessert but they brought out TiraMisu that read Happy Anniversary in chocolate syrup because we mentioned we were there for our anniversary. Im looking forward to the next meal here.

Will definately return! Tried it last night - the aged strip steak was cooked to perfection and was one of the best I've had in a long time and was better than other big name steak houses. Incredible crust, served sliced with perfect seasoning. Amazing service, cocktails and desserts.

Excellent restaurant! I’ve eaten here 3 times now - twice in the restaurant and once in the bar - in the past 2 months. Their fish dishes are delicious. I had filet mignon first time I came and it was excellent as well. Cooked to perfection (I asked for rare) Service is exceptional (Danny is one of their first class, friendly waiters). Plenty of parking as well. The bar is also very nice. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved our experience at The Black Bull in Gillette! We started with the clams and stuffed mushrooms, both of which were incredibly flavorful and a perfect start to our meal. The steaks were the highlight—cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. We also tried the beet salad and Caesar salad, both topped with perfectly cooked shrimp, which was a fantastic touch. The owner was such a pleasure to meet—super friendly and welcoming. Overall, a wonderful dining experience and we can’t wait to return! Highly recommend!

We have been waiting to try Black Bull for a while. It didn't disappoint. The service, atmosphere, food were all there. It had the whole package for the price. We enjoyed our food, our server was great, and it was not loud as some places can be. It was a great find and we look forward to coming back!

Our server Danny was very attentive from the minute we sat down. He asked us how we were doing, what we wanted to start out with, and also asked about any potential allergies in our party. That made us feel so seen because I couldn’t remember the last time a server asked about that. When the food arrived, I was surprised by how fast it came out. Most other steakhouses would have taken their sweet time for the “experience,” but it felt like no time passed between our drinks, appetizers, and our actual meal. It was unbelievable for our party as large as ours. Would be coming back again. Thank you, Danny!

This restaurant is one of our new favorites. The decor is beautiful, the seats are so comfortable. The staff are amazing, great customer service and friendly environment all around. Our server Leny was amazing! The food was delicious, we highly recommend the porterhouse for 2. We enjoyed all the sides, drinks and desserts. We plan to come back soon.

We've been there twice since they opened and cannot wait to go back. I love steak! And they did not disappoint. The lobster bisque is amazing, and first time we had the tomahawk steak, so delicious, and too much to eat, took half home. Second time there I had the bone-in filet Mignon, and wow! so tasty. Place looks great and service is on par. My husband takes anywhere for my birthday, and this year it will definitely be Black Bull!

Arranged for a dinner for 20 people after Watchung Hills High School event. Joseph and his team were outstanding. from being able to accommodate a group that large on a Friday night & still making easy access for a friend who needed help with a mobility device, to being able to keep food and drinks flowing to the table without a delay. They even managed to bring all 20 meals to the table at the same time, which isn't easy for a group that big. But the star of the show was the food. Steaks, seafood, pasta: regular menu and specials, everything was fantastic. Be back again soon.

We were a table of four and everyone was very happy with appetizers, entrees, drinks and dessert. The calamari had a light fluffy crust, less oily than most. The Porterhouse house steak was memorable, served with a tipped plate for a pool of aus jus to dip slices into. The service was very attentive and professional. My only wishes is for there to be an included choice of side with the steak, even a free baked potato instead charging $10. for every side. Just the porterhouse was $139. so the total bill was high for all we ordered and we shouldn't have to pay for a potato or vegetable.

We came here to celebrate my birthday with my family and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, and the ambience was sophisticated, quiet, classy, and very relaxing. We’re looking forward to coming back again and highly recommend this place.

Simply said. Amazing!!!! I grew up on Meyersville Road. The building was always a restaurant. But Finally it is a Place to Dine at and have a GREAT MEAL!!!! WE love the atmosphere and the wine list. The location is perfect too. Right in a central location. (Chatham, New Vernon, Harding, Bernardsville, Morristown, Long hill Township, Berkeley Heights, Summit, New Providence.) This is the place for a great meal and a very sophisticated night. FYI: My Oysters were great. And yes, the steak superb!

Was there on Christmas Day. Interior design and décor was excellent compared to Capital Grill stakehouse where it's dark inside with no windows... Service was great friendly accommodating, could have been up one or two notches, but we had no complaints at all.. All the food was perfectly prepared.. Portions were filling..

A nice neighborhood upscale.restaurant. went for Thanksgiving with kids and grand kids. Staff was very accommodating to us. Had a great selection including a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Food quality was excellent. Definitely recommend this restaurant!

We have been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened. The food was delicious, and the pairings of ingredients were fabulous. very attentive waiter. he might have been new lol 😭 i filled up on the bread because it was good! lobster mac didn’t stand out to me but the burrata salad was one of the best i’ve had. i loved their consideration of splitting it up before serving it to us and the burrata was delicious!! the t-bone steak was also delicious, nice crust and super tender. however the steak sauce is disappointing and ruins the meat, it just tastes like ketchup and vinegar mixed together. dipping it in the melted butter is a much better move.

It Is truly a beautiful restaurant, Enjoyed a delicious red sangria, My avocado and lump crab appetizer Was the very best. My entree of scallops was delicious.. The service and attention will definitely make me return for another meal.

I really wanted to love this place. Dining room has a beautiful look. Our service was a slow and lacking many times. It's was a Saturday evening & we were a table of 4. We ordered 2 apps ..clams and mushrooms. I was quite taken back by how ridiculously small everything was. They served the clams in a huge tray of ice that looked empty since since the clams were so tiny. Everyone complained about their entrees ..except me. Mine was delicious. I had the spring shrimp over risotto. I did enjoy it. Portions were not very generous. I hope this place improves and that they hire servers with more experience. They really were off in timing, long waits for drinks, missing plates for apps ..and seemed to just be order takers and have no knowledge of the menu. I will wait a while and give this place another try.

New place. They need to get a bit more organized. Steak was excellent. Service was good but amateurish. New York prices and it just isn’t worth it. The manager gave us “atitude”like he was doing us a favor. They have a nice bar but I don’t think they are going to make it. Just too expensive for what you get.

I had been wanting to try this new steakhouse for a while now and we don’t live too far away. We were there for the first time last night and I have mixed feelings. The place was beautiful, the servers were friendly. However the first thing that struck us as odd was that the server told us we had to order everything at once, while we were ordering apps and something for our kids. This is something Ive never experienced before in our many years of dining out. We ordered the mussels and the octopus but we weren’t even sure what to order for entrees yet, but feeling pressured we ordered the surf and turf for two. The appetizers were delicious but we ended up sharing some of our kids food, so by the time we finished all of that we were pretty full. But given the fact that we already placed our food order, it was too late to cancel that. Had we not been forced to order all together, we could have paced ourselves and decided not to order an entree. When the surf and turf came out, the T-Bone was extremely well done to the point where I could barely cut it. We ended up just taking it home. I was a little bit disappointed by this experience because I had been really looking forward to trying this new establishment. We go out to eat often, especially steakhouses and it was just a bit underwhelming. From our perspective, the seafood was much better than the steak we got. I really don’t think the meal and experience we had was worth the $400+ that we paid.

Started dinner off with appetizers: Muscles came out cold, would’ve sent them back if I wasn’t with my family who were starving. Calamari as well, flavorless and chewy. The sauce it came with was alright, but really not good enough to make up for the chewiness and lack of flavor in the dish itself. Main course: Got a sirloin steak and lobster tail. Steak was absolutely amazing, perfectly cooked and had great flavor. Lobster tail was tough and lacked flavor, really was not very good. Dessert: Got a lava cake. Extremely gritty and simply not very good. I think the chocolate broke while baking causing it to have a horrible texture. Service was on point though. Was regularly checked up on and everybody was polite. Atmosphere was good too. Really the restaurant just needs to make good food and it will be great. It was all edible, but for the prices they’re looking to charge, the food did not meet expectations. Biagios and the Stirling Hotel around the corner have better food at a third of the price or less.

Nice looking place but when charging these prices the steak and prep needs to be top notch. Steak quality was ok…not bad but not wonderful. Steak cut should have had more marbling and be less dense. Two of us in the party of 4 had steak with one of us getting it overcook (asked for med rare and got medium well). Steak sauce provided was awful. Calamari came out cold and rubbery…we sent that back. When we left it was raining out and I had to walk in a gravel puddle parking lot…when trying to be upscale that is off putting….pave your entire lot. Will not go back as there are so many better steakhouses with 20 min in every direction. Anyone giving 5 or 4 start reviews either does not eat out frequently or just gives everywhere 5 stars. Final note service was prompt and well managed.

First dining experience here. Maybe due to Valentine’s Day, which shouldn’t be an excuse in the restaurant business, but the service was lacking. Not served bread, which when reading reviews prior to visiting, seemed to be served to all guests. Drinks were very poor. Tried the Sam Adams and dogfish IPA from tap and both beers were flat. The dirty martini came with one olive and had pieces of the tooth pick floating in the glass, not to mention, the waiter spilled half of it while serving it with shaky hands. When it came time to order appetizers, we were told we needed to place our entire order at once due to the kitchen being busy. The short rib spring rolls were delicious as was the porterhouse for two which was cooked perfectly. The sides left much to be desired. The truffle fries seemed like they were prepared early in the day and just served periodically as they were cold and stale. We ordered the “Loaded Baked Potato” which said it came with bacon, chives, cheddar cheese and sour cream… we were served a plain, dry, baked potato. Rather than sending it back to the kitchen, we just requested some butter to put on the potato ourselves, which the waiter never brought to us. Once our dinner was served, the waiter did not come back until it was time for the bill. No check to see how everything was or if we needed drinks or anything. Overall, the steak was great and absolutely delicious, but everything else alongside it really left a lot to be desired as a customer. It is a pretty penny to dine here and the service you are given does not live up to the high end prices you pay.

went here a month ago, oysters were fishy and uneatable. friend had scallops and not served correctly Decided to give it another chance last night. Special steak ( no price on menu) ordered medium and came out well done. 2 others ordered special sea bass- too salty to eat and had to be redone. My black bull dish was good Complained and asked to speak to owner who was present when we arrived and told he had already left. We will not return here again

Sadly this fell short of our expectations. The tomahawk was the smallest I’ve ever had, was way overcooked and the steak sauce tasted like a cocktail sauce, which I am convinced it was. The shrimp was good. The clams oreganata tasteless. The black bull old fashioned was not good at all. Not sure if our server had too many tables, but service was slow, requested things multiple times, and check given to us without asking if we wanted dessert. Focaccia was the best thing we ate, and they took that from the table before we were finished. Was looking forward to a great steakhouse we could frequent and sit at the bar in the future, but we won’t be going back.

The restaurant has been open for three months. The decor is beautiful and the servers are very friendly. The clam chowder was delicious in flavor but extremely runny. The tuna tartare (pictured) was spectacular. The sirloin and the filet mignon (pictured) were severely overcooked. The rude chef simply cut the steaks in half to show the slightest hint of pink stating that they were medium and perfectly cooked. Extremely dry steaks. Extremely disappointed with this being a steakhouse. Now we understand why the restaurant was empty the moment we entered up until we left.

DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES; I am allergic to nuts and I had an extremely close call earlier today that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. One of the specials on the menu was a halibut dish served with mango puree along with some fruits and veggies. Sounded great! Unfortunately, the dish also had pecans — something I had ZERO knowledge of until they served me the dish. How did this happen, you might ask? Simple! Pecans weren’t even listed on the menu as an ingredient in the dish. Fortunately, for both myself and this establishment, I am okay. I only react if the nut enters my mouth and the halibut itself was safe to eat for me. However, this brazen lack of oversight could have absolutely sent someone else to the hospital — or worse. IMAGINE if someone with an allergy far more severe than mine lost their life to an act of negligence like this. If by some chance the staff or management is reading this, consider yourself INSANELY LUCKY that I caught on to the error and not someone less fortunate than me. This is appalling, offensive and above all else, UNACCEPTABLE. Do not bother apologizing. This is an issue that, for many, is life and death. Use. Your. Heads.
