This place is the definition of a hidden gem. The plates are very small but INCREDIBLE. Our waitress was amazingly competent and (though we were a solidly chaotic party of 10) got everything we ordered correct and even remembered who ordered what. Our party, some of us having gone to culinary school and some from countries of great cuisine, had high expectations - Madison Wine and Tap Room excelled those. I work in food service and our view into the kitchen looked clean and organized, with just three chefs getting food out within ten minutes of ordering. Keep in mind it’s not a big entree per person type of vibe. Might be more suitable for larger parties so you can order an array of their menu. My only critiques would be that it IS pricey. My very small portion of pork belly was insanely good, but $20 for 2 small pieces. Also they have an odd policy for cake - they let us know a $50 surcharge would be added to our bill if we brought in our own cake for my mom’s birthday, which is odd since there are only 3 items on their dessert list. For what to get, the pork belly was amazing but not a large portion for the price. The Rustico pizza is a MUST, as well as the very generous Salumi board and steaming-hot homemade breads (which come with an incredible pâté and onion dip). The food, however, makes everything worth it tenfold. My mother announced at the end of the dinner that we simply HAVE to come back - which we surely will be :) Thank you so much for an incredible meal!
Madison Wine and Tap Room is a delightful spot for both dinner and happy hour! The atmosphere is inviting, and the extensive drink selection, especially during happy hour, offers great options at a great deal. The eggplant parm pizza was a standout, perfectly baked with a crispy crust and flavorful toppings. The cauliflower was a surprising treat, with a deliciously seasoned and tender texture. The steak frites were cooked to perfection, with juicy steak and crispy fries. All the food arrived piping hot and made for a satisfying dining experience. Only downside is it did get quite loud during the peak of happy hour. Highly recommend visiting Madison Wine and Tap Room for a tasty meal and drinks!
Nice wine list, beer list and a great menu of small plates and appetizers. Try the scallop small plate and olive tapenades, both are standouts on the menu! The service was excellent, but time to receive a drink consistently took a little too long. Not sure if that was due to backup at the bar, but that's the only suggestion for improvement. Great atmosphere as well!
Yum!!! My first time here, met friends for dinner and this place did not disappoint. Pizza was fantastic, and we also ordered the charred cauliflower. There was an extensive adult beverage menu too, plenty of wine choices. I ordered a glass of the Vietti Moscato d'Asti; if you like sweet this is the wine for you! Great vibe, the tap room is located in front of the market. There's parking behind the building, and you can go in either through the back (market entrance), or walk around to the front. Also a few tables outside if your preference is outdoor dining. I'll be back!!
Love this place! Go there often! The best beet salad in NJ. The pizza, steak, fries, shrimp….all delicious!
Best spot in Madison. Unbelievable wine list, great food, great atmosphere. I had the Octopus to start, and then the Petit Filet Mignon.
Good drinks and good food with a clean but fun vibe.
Great service and food. Differnt food than the normal places. They also have an awesome beer selection on tap. One of my favorites, Green State Zero Gravity, is on tap!!!
Excellent wine selection, nice appetizers. On a Friday night, you'll run into all of your neighbors from Madison.
Food great. Service Great What more could you want? 4 appetizers, 5 drinks $168 all in
Delicious! Party of 5 got burgers steak and pizza . Loved the fried cauliflower app!
Food and service was great!! Thank you!!!
I really just stopped in to use the bathroom but whole I was there I did indulge in the restaurant. Nice staff and very nice bar nut it was closed. I'll definitely revisit to give a better review.
Very nice place!!! Beautiful bar! Happy hour and service very good!
I have visited several times. Great atmosphere and awesome food and drinks. Fantastic for smaller office group outings!
Wonderful wine bar. Great selection of wines and amazing cocktails.
Beautifully curated wine list, good service, and tasty small plates
Service was good. I had the pizza a little crispy was very good. Read it like an eight and then I had the rigatoni Bolognese and I asked for al dente it was perfect.
Amber has gotten us thru several trying toddler dinners on Friday night. It’s the only restaurant we dare go to on a Friday night because she’s the best and the food and drink is super.
Went there with close to 40 members of GameChanger Fitness for happy hour on a Friday night. Couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Terrific drinks and atmosphere. Amazing service for our very large group. Could not recommend Madison Wine & Tap enough. A++
Happy hour has some great choices. All were delicious! Mariah our servicer was great. Meet the GM Mike who was very attentive and helpful with running a smooth restaurant.
We had an amazing experience at Madison Wine & Tap Room last night. Our waitress, Rachael, was wonderful. Knew the menu and gave me some great cocktail suggestions. Their salads are huge and the lobster rolls were yummy. On our way out we meet another waiter, Mike from Oxford. What a great personality, sincere and personable. Looking forward to returning soon.
Madison Wine & Tap is an amazing addition to the quaint Madison downtown. The vibe is a perfect blend of upscale and modern, while also feeling casual and laid back. They have an extensive wine list, delicious cocktails and an always changing menu of small plates. We love the pizza! Perfect for really any occasion, whether it's happy hour drinks or a weekend date night. They also have multiple spaces for gatherings or small private events. We held my wife's bridal shower here and the staff was friendly, attentive and accommodating. We frequent the attached market for gourmet coffee, awesome house baked cookies and pastries, and a wonderful deli section. Highly recommend!
I should keep this place my secret. So good every dish incredible. Great bar best in the area. Easy parking. Top shelf! Beef Taco highly recommended!!!
My fiancée and I just love this place. As a wheelchair user, I’m thrilled that the restaurant is 100% accessible and has low tables by request to accommodate my chair for a comfortable experience. The servers are always very cheerful and helpful. On top of that, the wine list is fantastic and the food is incredible! We have loved absolutely everything we’ve ordered, and can’t wait to try it all. Its popular, so it can get a bit crowded and I would recommend a reservation on weekends.
Excellent wine with the knowledgeable friendly staff. Just had appetizers and flat bread. It was very good.
Declan made the best Cosmopolitans! 🤩 We loved the atmosphere! However, it was a little noisy and hot when we visited. We look forward to seeing Declan again!!! 👏
What a phenomenal addition to Madison’s downtown! Food is A+ quality and the wine and beer selections are fantastic. Really friendly servers and great atmosphere. I hope that they start offering tasting events!
Service was spectacular! Emile was an incredible server and was so knowledgeable on the menu, both drinks and food. He suggested the best whiskey cocktails for me and I will be back again.
This place is amazing. A real gem. The food, the wine and the service were superb. (We are real wine snobs too) The atmosphere is laid back, which we appreciated.
Food is pretty good, bar it's petty solid and can make some good cocktails. Pzza is better than average Would repeat, can be can bit noisy
It's a unique space, drinks were strong, food looked good (didn't eat there, but friends did).
Great service, nice atmosphere and place. Food ok.
My wife and I have been here twice. Once for dining and once sitting at the bar. Both times the service was great. Clean restaurant and city like atmosphere. The food was great and the cocktails were reminiscent of those served in Hoboken. Will definitely return and absolutely recommend for happy hour or a romantic dinner.
Nice restaurant with an interesting selection of cocktails. I ended up switching back to vodka martinis, which were excellent. The other choices were a little too sweet for my taste. The food is good as well. Beet salad was excellent, short ribs were pretty good. The hamburgers didn't look like anything special but no complaints at my table. Limited menu but everyone found something. The atmosphere and service were good, nice big bar.
Really liked the broad based wine list and the ability to try several 1 ounce pours for $3 to $4 each. I thought the drinks were well priced, and the small plates were fairly priced. Food was good. Sangria was meh. Server was great - explained that it was a scratch kitchen and how things are brought to the table. Friendly, appropriately attentive and great at managing expectations on a busy Friday night. Biggest negative was the noise level. High tin ceilings and a full restaurant made it so loud that we left earlier than anticipated as we were shouting just to be heard. Would definitely try again on a slower night. Shame about the noise.
First timer! It was such a great date night or GNO vibe. Food was lovingly prepared. I could have eaten 4 of the scallop dish. The pizza was awesome. The crust was thin and crispy but had a good flavor. The drinks-YUM. The bartenders know what they are doing. A little on the pricey side but was worth every penny. Our server was so pleasant and patient and well versed in the menu of drinks and food. Easily could make suggestions and was very attentive. Definitely will be back. If you are in the area, definitely give it a try. Only open foe about a year.
Came on a Saturday night, of course we expect business to be busy even with a reservation. We still waited long . We ordered drinks and a salumi & cheese to share. Really disappointed with the presentation of the meat & cheese for $22. It looked like something I could make at home, slapped onto a plate in clumps. I can go to my local casual and get an appealing plate for $12-15 and not $22 for the same cheese and meats. Drinks were good but service was slow. Waitress was busy and did her best. I feel the experience would be better on a weekday when there are less people.
Went for happy hour. Ordered the mussels, they were very tasty but tiny tiny, for a $14.00 small plate it was really not much. If you can only find tiny mussels, take them off the menu. The Happy Hour potatoes were great! The service was great and very friendly. I want to support local eateries and I will try you again!
By far the best spot in Madison for cocktails and a small-plate nosh. The acoustics leave something to be desired - I wouldn’t recommend this place for a quiet dinner, or a romantic date night; best for meeting with friends for happy hour.
watch the glass of wine gimmick. they charge for a 3oz and 6oz pour and don’t tell you. we paid $36 for a 6oz glass for a $50 bottle of wine and we only learned about this gimmick when the bill came!
Acoustics are poor so it is very noisy even when not busy. Service was slow especially since it was a quiet Tuesday in the summer.
The name of the restaurant is very appropriate, you go there for drinks, but pricey drinks. Their prices are like those in Manhattan. Food wise, we were able to order a very good sampling of what they offered. Food were photogenic. The $19 Hamachi Tataki and the $16 Crabcake Sandwich were the most “OK” out of all the VERY SMALL plates. For the $22 Salumi and Cheese, cold cuts weren’t fresh, the blue cheese wasn’t delicious. The $12 Chickpea Fries were interesting but not also delicious. There was nothing special about their $17 Cheeseburger with MWTR sauce. The $16 Shrimp Cheviche were three HALF PIECES of shrimp! And please don’t order the $20 Braised Pork Belly! The “tomato paste infused” pork belly was about 1.5x2 inches big, and almost two inches thick was all fat. We ordered a bunch of pizzas. Also photogenic but taste wise, nothing stood out. The service was very friendly and eager. Good job. Commendable. The ambiance seemed bright, inviting, and recently renovated. The Men’s restroom was clean but the sensor of their faucet didn’t work right. The sensor couldn’t decide to pour out water from the faucet. The food experience was borderline acceptable, the wine and cocktails were good, but everything was very overpriced. For the owners, please don’t make the state of the economy an excuse for over pricing. The restaurant has potential and I’d like neighborhood businesses to succeed, but customers want good value and delectable food.
Hosting service is a mess! Clients should feel welcome. Food was ok, but not the greatest.
Was hopeful trying this place for the first time. Came for an early dinner with my parents. Noise level wasn’t very loud at 5:30. Tried the pizza special which was great. Steak tacos were tasty as well. Quinoa and garbanzo salad was ok but needed some more flavor (lemon and salt?). Disappointed in the steak frites - steak was dry and flavorless and the cuts weren’t very good. My family was split on the burger - one loved it and the other thought it was too greasy. Most disappointing was the service - or rather the lack thereof. Waiter was slow to come to the table, but after apologizing the first time them took over 29 minutes to get us our drinks. He only came back to check on our table once we had our mains when we were almost done eating. My husband and I would have liked to order a glass of wine for our main course but we’re never offered the opportunity. Even refills on soda and ice teas were limited. There was no excuse for the poor service. The restaurant wasn’t busy. Even though we were celebrating a birthday, dessert was out of the question. God knows how much longer that would have taken. Plus $18 for an awful glass of Chardonnay? I wouldn’t come back.
I have been here several times, and was there again last night. The price for wine was ridiculous. Most restaurants offer a 6 or 9 oz glass. Here it was 3 or 6!! And a 6 Oz glass of Chardonnay was $18. Are you serious?? Plus it was extremely noisy. The food was very good (quinoa, chick pea and arugula salad and pizza) but there are so many other good restaurants in the area to go to. I was quite disappointed
Watch out on your tab for being overcharged for what you order especially on wine/drinks. Make sure to double check your itemized tab. We were charged for wine that was ~40% more expensive than what we ordered.
They charged my card for my transaction and additionally another charge for someone's else bill. It's good that my wife discovered it and filed a dispute. Why do I have to pay for someone's mistake???
I have never eaten at Madison Wine & Tap and I NEVER WILL because our company has been trying for a week to get in touch with the manager to maybe set up a client dinner! I get it they open at 4:00 pm but there should be a catering manager who is available during business hours. There is no private party portal, no response to the online form requesting private space (filled it out twice) and no response via email. I am not available to talk to a manager when he finally calls my office back at 8:00 pm at night.
Restaurant was cold and although our reservations were for 6 pm and it was empty, hostess was going to put us in the front by the door or the back room. I said no way. It was colder there. We ordered an appetizer which came with our dinners. I said no way. Waitress said that it is the way we serve it here. Ok, but u could have told us that beforehand. Sent it back. Supposed to be a starter. My linguine n clam sauce was rubbery and tasteless. There was no salt on the table either. No refills on our water and to find pur waitress, good luck!
