I have found some incredible records in this location at very reasonable prices. I would come on an free morning or afternoon, plan to stay a 1-3 hrs.
A little hidden from the outside. I can't believe I found a linda ronstadt vinyl for $8
If my toffee is a marmalade in salad bars' chocolate toes, then a wangle fraudulent purchase is in order. Hail Dufferin County
Best record store in LA! In the world! They have live bands play for free on their loft a few nights a week. Good vibes
Records and punk shows, what more could you want? An excellent small venue where you can get close to the stage and see live music. No food, just drinks and music.
One of my favorite stores in the world. Owner always willing to make recommendations. He shops all over the globe for quality records that are hard to find here in LA.
Great little bar and performance space. Record shop is legit awesome and reasonable prices on pristine records
Super cool location. It doubles as a record store/bar! The vibe was right and they have some spectacular records. If you go on their Instagram, you can purchase records there.
Came here to see Sydney perform. Great show.
Great selection of vinyl and some cool swag, get a beer after your done record shopping.
This is the place you've been looking for. Catch a show, buy a beer at the record shop while you shop some records. Live comedy, Fred Armissen pop ups, rock and roll.
Great place to drop in and inspect an eclectic selection of vinyls. Always tons of new arrivals. Staff is always friendly
Rad records and good shows. Highly recommended. And I’m a full on music snob.
My name is Kenneth Thomas and this is my review! The first record i ever bought was KISS - Fantasy. Maybe they will have that record here. I wouldnt buy it, cuz i still have my copy, but i would be STOKED!!
Great selection of records, chill vibes and great drinks. So happy to see this place going strong through the pandemic!
Super cool record shop great selections and very great spot for shows!
Absolutely amazing. The owner is really nice and all the staff are really great and it makes the experience very enjoyable!
Vibe is off the charts, cool place to chill with a decent selection of records.
Live music, stand up comedy, records for sale, good bartenders. If that doesn't sell you then this was never your spot to begin with.
As an indie rock/college radio/post punk fan, this is by far the best selection of any store in L.A. I'm usually scared to go in there because of how much money I'll spend...
Pretty neat place. Small but they managed to have 3 separate events going on at the same time with relative ease.
Such a cool spot. Very nice staff and has many locations all around Los Angeles. Highly recommend!
Excellent place to buy vinyl or see a concert. Parking sucks only drawback.
Best Place To Score Vinyl! Excellent Customer Service! Excellent Merch..!👍
Fantastic selection at fair prices. People that work there are wonderful and it’s such a fun atmosphere!
Best venue for smaller shows. Love this place
Great records, great shows. Love this place!
I am hoping to be able to go here soon. Unfortunately in my area not only do they not require vaccines for you to go eat in the restaurants or go to their bars they probably proclaim it's none of your business if their employees are vaccinated. So it is completely impossible to know where I live what places are safe to frequent. So kudos to Permanent Records for taking a stand for what is right and rewarding all of those who did the right thing with a safe place to go and have a good time. Hopefully this will spread..
Overall fair pricing for most of the vinyl. The owner is very friendly. Definitely knows his music. Wish I would have had more time to browse.
In my opinion this is the most unique record store in LA with the best variety on top of it all. Staff and owner are all amazing folks. Plus, they host super fun community events.
I’ve had nothing but great experiences here. Great selection at fair prices. They keep expanding over time. I recently downsized and sold my collection and was very pleased with the reasonable price I was given in return. They also picked up the records from me at no charge. Thanks guys 👍
A perfect pocket record store in what is currently a golden age of vinyl shops in Los Angeles – the centrifuge of which seems to be in Northeast LA around Eagle Rock and Highland Park. Permanent doesn't offer the deep obscurantist archeology of Mount Analog, the maximalism of Amoeba, or the frequent used inventory turnover of Wombleton – but it may offer the best balance between all three. This is a small, well-curated shop in the vein of Aquarius Records in San Francisco with a good mix of used and new, and a group of employees that are sociable, enthusiastic and generous. They'll put records aside for you when they get to know your tastes, and can curate a little micro-niche for the enthusiast. Their prices are eminently reasonable – even rare discs seldom peak beyond $30. Also, be sure to get on their email list, as they describe each new release in detail on a weekly basis, and provide audio samples for the curious. May Permanent remain so!
I went to Permanent Records to browse their CD selection, looking primarily for Hip-Hop. Overall their CD selection was quite limited, maybe ~300-400 items total (Hip Hop and most other genre collections were quite small, maybe 20 items a piece and the rest of the CD's were alphabetized). All CD's I saw looked to be from artists from a few decades ago. Prices for these CD's were very reasonable, I left with a Johnny Cash Greatest Hit's disk for $4! The staff at Permanent Records was very friendly, if you are hunting for older CD's this place is definitely worth a quick browse!
I bought 5 excellent Beatles records at permanent records and all of them are great! this place has an excellent selection of music to choose from. it is in a good area, and the records are priced fairly.
Once I was playing and the fog machine got stuck on the “fog” setting and man— never been happier on stage than in that dense bank of fog juice.
This place is AWESOME! Whether it's for a show, a drink or to buy some records you've gotta go to this place at least once!
I love dive bars and this is one of my favourite dive on Avenue A. $4 bucks for a pork slap pale ale, tiny bathroom and a jukebox. Awesome spot to hang out.
This place is just all around great. Came here for a buddy’s show. Caught Fred Amerson randomly and then bought a rare record. Highly recommend.
An amazing venue with great vinyls to buy and amazing staff. Love going here.
Do yourself a favour and see a show here. Drink pbr, buy a few records. You'll feel better about the world.
Jesse went above and beyond to help me allocate my orders . I broke my leg last week and am unable to go in person to pick up. Jesse helped make sure to set those records up for shipping and helped me purchase a couple more while on the phone. Thank you for being so accommodating. I can’t wait to get all better and make my way down there. Top Notch Customer Service!!!
Heard Matt Pryor is gonna play there Monday 3/2. You guys rock!
Perfect divey bar, one of the few places it actually "feels cool" to be seeing a show. Strong Gen X venue vibes in the best way. Leave your phone in your car for the full experience, lol.
Had a great time at Permanent Records Roadhouse. Saw a comedy show there. All around good evening. Service was pretty good. I'd like to go back & check it out when there's not a show going on & shop. Do recommend. Only gripe was lack of food. All they have are chips & snacks, which over the course of a night, at a show, that will not cut it. And it didn't seem like there was many options nearby. There's a Papusa place next door, but they don't stay open very late. So yeah, be prepared for that, if you're going to be there for the night. But yeah, cool spot.
Wonderful bar and music venue with great old-school red lighting, decor, and a diner-tiled floor. Been to only a couple shows here but always a good time with cool bartenders and clientele. This is also a golden opportunity for record shopping with a great, diverse selection of vinyl shelves lining the stage.
I was there to see, Then Comes Silence. First time. I was not impressed with the venue. A small record store. Too bad. Then Comes Silence is one of my favorite band. The place held all the people that came to see them.. I am just happy that they made a stop in Los Angeles.. Sound much live than in the recording studio. I hope I get to see them again.
Don't know how they do it, but week after week, the live music doesn't stop. They have an amazing selection of music to buy and bands to see perform while you enjoy a nice cold beer (or any drink of your choosing).
A record shop, with a bar and a patio, and live music! What's not to love? The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff are knowledgeable and attentive. They have a great collection of vintage records, and regularly host concerts featuring great local bands! I can't recommend this place enough for music lovers! Keep an eye out on their social media pages for upcoming events!
Good record selections, good small shows all the time. One of those places thats worth dropping in on randomly to discover new music acts.
Probably the greatest rock and roll venue in LA?? Staff is the best. Sounds amazing here. Thanks Bobby and Lance and Tara!
I don't even want to rate this place so highly because I selfishly don't want it to get overcrowded, but it's literally my favorite bar/venue/record store/foody pop-up indulging one stop dream shop. Great drink selection. Amazing music and comedy and other entertainment. Great records. Friendly staff. Cool clientele. Not pretentious, not too big, just good times for all.
Awesome venue, great margaritas, the vinyl is also really cool! You can bring in fresh pupusas from the restaurant next door. Can't wait to come back here for another show!
Super cute venue, great bar and the shop itself is awesome. I’d also recommend listening to Babe Ruthless and then seeing them there because they’re so sick.
Kinda fell in love with the place last night. Saw a perfect gig (Rose City Band), the staff was lovely, the music was on point and exactly what I'm into, the record store's great, it's all damn great and I'd make it my second home if I lived in LA.
The bouncer with the big hair was amazing. He was kind and friendly and really nice getting us in. Much respect to him and you should really give him appreciation for hits hard work dealing with the public. This place was fun in a way a good dream feels, unreal but mesmerizing.
Had a wonderful time hosting an event here!
I loved this store! A GREAT FIND!!! Had a bad experience at another local store "Mount Analogue".. Walked into this store to be greeted by a VERY friendly store kitty ( LOVED IT! ) Both times I came to this store, the persons at the counter were very helpful in accommodating my needs. I will be back on a regular basis, not only because of the kitty and the exceptional customer service, but because of the selection and QUALITY of their vinyls!! GREAT job guys!!! I love what is going on in the neighborhood ,as well. It will bring people in!! THANK YOU!
Well curated and eclectic selection of vinyl all well priced. Unpretentious and friendly helpful staff. Turntable set up so you can listen. Inventory uploaded in their database, so a simple ask will provide you with a return on what’s in stock. Don’t miss this Permanent or the second parallel shop across the street. Rad!
Bought some rare records I had been looking for for a while! Great live music and welcoming atmosphere. I will be back
Super mellow, staff is cool music is a grab bag which is nice …sometimes need to get out of your comfort zone
Sound quality was great, staff and owners are so communicative and helpful. Lance the owner is a really great guy. I loved performing here. A big plus is that as an indie artist you keep all your tickets sales and merch sales. Love this venue.
I used to come here when it was Cafe NELA back in the day. At first I was reluctant to check out the new place, but I went there for the Queens Of The Stone Age, In Time New Roman, album listening party. It still has the same divey and warm feel that I was used to. NOW there’s a record store in the back, bands play in the bar still, but sometimes there’s another band playing in the back. AND there’s even comedy nights with some well known celebs. This has a unique collection of the coolest things that I love in one place. now if they start screening movies, then I’m moving in! Since I live only a mile away, I have a feeling this is going to be my new favorite haunt.
Attended the Queens of the Stone Age, “In Times New Roman”, Listening Party. Had a great time and even made some new friends. They have tasty unique house cocktails and a most excellent selection of records for the rock aficionados. It’s got that unpretentious dive bar ambiance I personally love. Bummed I missed Ron Funches at the Popular Kids Club earlier in the evening, but will keep my eyes peeled for future events here. Definitely recommend.
Got here yesterday, minutes before the bar opened up for the evening. This place is cool. 😎 It’s part record store, part dive bar. Way cool. 👍🏽 It wasn’t my first time being at this place yesterday. I’ve been here a couple of times already before. I like the inside and back patio as well. Come by and check it out. While you’re at it, have a cold beer…🍺
Awesome venue and record store. Saw a bunch of bands when I was there, and there was also a band playing covers with a group doing a sing-along down the driveway.
Hesitant to rave in fear of it getting ruined.. great place, bartenders actually serve drinks well (and call) quickly/friendly,music has been great every time ive been Seen a couple good comedy shows.. not that easy to park or get to the bathrooms inside but worth it. I hope i don't remember leaving this place many more times to come
Fun dive to see live bands. The staff are fast and friendly, the drinks are strong, the sound is good, and some booth seating is available. The outside patio has room for a lot of merch tables, the smoking lounge is set away from the crowds, they have a taco vendor and tables for eating, and, of course, vinyl displayed for sale. Great, gritty vibe and a fun time!
Pleasantly surprised! Came here for a DJ set hosted by some of my favorite podcasters. The DJ set was in their patio area where they have tables and chairs and shade. They also have a small records store that’s packed with all sorts of goodies (and canned beverages)! Really well organized too. Their $1 section had some great stuff. Lance helped me out with my purchases and he was very kind. The building in the front is a music venue with a full bar. Didn’t get a chance to go inside and explore but I’ll definitely be back to check it out. Look forward to coming back, having a bevvy, and doing some digging or catching a show.

Went for the WAAX show and what a great venue!
Such a vibe! Great place to see different underground, independent and fresh artists! Cool place! Can be very loud, so be warned. It’s not big. Mostly standing room only with a few booths along the right wall, and some bar seating as well. Great service! Friendly staff! Bring some money for some really cool Permanent Records swag!
This is a small gem in the North of Los Angeles. This establishment has been here for years and was known as Cafe Nela. But now a totally different ambiance. Permeant Records Roadhouse has an indoor bar, record shop, and small stage for local and renowned artists from the music industry. Ah, let's not forget the outdoor patio with tables and chairs, and allow you to smoke your favorite brand or strain. Also, in the exterior part of the establishment, they have a shack full of vinyl. The shack, which I called it, was once a residence. You shop for music, drink, and enjoy a live performance. Remember, it's a small place, don't expect a large venue. Go check it out.
Awesome venue with good sound compared to other small venues. Good selection of vinyl records and kind staff. Looking forward to coming back either for a show or to shop
I’m writing this review specifically about the record shop behind the bar/music venue. This is my favorite record shop on this side of town to browse. Incredible (albeit pricey!) wall records, but gems hidden in every nook and cranny. Super well organized. Very friendly staff. I’m not chatty when I go into shops. I get chatty here. Love this place.
A bar and music venue in the front and a well-curated record store in the back with lots of outdoor space in between. Worth a visit for fans of vinyl.
I've been to Permanent Records Roadhouse a handful of times now—twice for Music Trivia (proud third place!), a few times for live shows, and just to browse the excellent record selection. Every visit has been a good time. The music trivia nights are no joke—challenging in the best way and a ton of fun. The stage is small, but the sound quality is surprisingly solid for the space. It's intimate in a way that makes you feel close to the music. The drinks are strong, the vibe is laid-back, and they sometimes host pop-up food vendors, which is a nice bonus. Whether you're catching a set, showing the world you're a music nerd, digging through vinyl, or just grabbing a drink at the bar, it's a great hang.
So grateful that a space like this exists in general. I’ve been for comedy shows, local bands, and some of my favorite touring acts, as well as just to check out the record store in back on a weekend afternoon. Each time I remind myself how I should be back more often and how I wish it was walking distance to me. Why the review now? Well, last night I had some of the best limes of my entire life. They were so good that I just had to leave a review. Shoutout to John who helped us out at the bar and was likely the person cutting those limes earlier that day. Rather than waiting for the next event I want to catch here (Matt Pryor on 3/2), I’ll be back ASAP because I can’t stop thinking about the limes. 🍋🟩
Drove up to LA from San Diego for a concert and made it a point to come to the record store. Did not regret it one bit. Lance, the owner, is super friendly and knowledgeable. The store has a great variety of records, including rare and sealed pressings. Lots of 90s OG pressings as well, which I collect. His prices are very reasonable and the store is well organized. I recommend that anyone in the LA area stop by his store. I definitely will when I drive back up!

Cool bar. I saw outdoor comedy show out back. Good stuff.
Great ambiance if you're into old school laid back vibe
This is a pretty decent store. They have a lot of stuff but it can be pricey on stuff that isn't too hard to get. Not sure why that is. But if you dig through it, you can get some solid buys.
The gig was great, the record store out back next to the "amphitheater" is great. The stage inside the bar is prefect for small shows.
Came here for a UYE this weekend. Thanks Ileana for setting it up. I saw some old friends and met some new which is the whole point right? This is a classic dive bar with great drink specials and great music. Genesee cream ale check, 24oz Tecate check. I also have to thank Ramon for introducing me to my new summer cocktail...the J&G This is a great place is you want to drink and drink a lot.
Great venue! Pros: Great bar staff, service, and drinks. Really nice, large outdoor patio area. Cool record shop. Decor & lighting set a nice vibe. Great PA & live sound quality. Cons: The floor slopes upwards towards the stage, making it harder to see over the heads of people in front of you (the opposite of how most theaters are designed). The ceiling is quite low, so it can get pretty warm & steamy inside (especially closer to the stage, or when the house is packed like it was for REZN).

Live rock music was awesome with welcoming bartenders, had tequila with soda
Good drinks. Their audio engineer muted the band I drove an hour and a half in the rain to see during their encore - the song I came to hear them perform. HUGE bummer. I won't come back if they are hosting another band I like.

Came here for a comedy show but it was massively oversold. Either that or the venue could not effectively control a crowd that was lingering from an earlier event. Whichever was the case, we left early because it was entirely too crowded to enjoy. Must have been at least double the posted occupancy. Staff were great!
Cool spot, but 30 dollar double jameson sour and the Instagram thing they have that people can call dibs on records they post instead of first come first serve honestly kills it for me.
Opened but not opened because someone was shooting a weird commercial in the alley next door? Idk but we got to browse a bit before someone let us know that even though everything is open, unlocked and invitin… that it isnt actually open? … drove far to get here and really let down. Just go somewhere else. The hours are not legit and the shop is too organized for a record store.
Saw a somewhat hard-to-come-by LP I've been wanting for a while on their Insta. Called them right after they opened to ask condition, price, etc., and asked about purchasing over the phone since I don't live nearby. He said it'd be fine since they do it over IG all the time, but dude didn't know the details of how to do it so he took my info and said someone who knew how to do it would contact me later that night. Didn't get any message so I called the next day a few minutes before opening and was told that they'd sold it later that same evening after I assumed I already had it locked-in. Chapped to say the least!
wouldn’t let me in without a physical id but they had already scanned my ticket so i couldn’t get a refund.
I'm a musician and I run a small label in the LA area. I did consignment with them a while ago (October 2018) and they ripped me off. They used to have a location in Echo Park, the employee there and I wrote down the consignment details on one of their stationary papers. I checked a few months later but nothing had sold so I asked him if I should go pickup my stuff, I was concerned about the merch getting lost or possibly the shop closing, but he said it was not necessary and not to worry about it, he had my number too and said he'd let me know if anything like that happened. I did not hear back in over a year and then the echo park location stoped existing. I recently called this location and asked about my consignment items and if I could get paid or get the merch back. They refused, even though I sent them the paper I had with all the information. They claimed that their consignment policy states that after 6 months, the merchandise is then donated to the shop. But I was never told about this policy, or shown any contract or told about any period after which I would be forfeiting my merch. I know that years have passed but also it was only about $45 that they owed me (or my merch back). Anyway it infuriates me how many businesses take advantage of small labels and in one way or another steal consignment items in this way, its not the first time Ive had trouble getting paid for consignment items and had stores loose items. If you can't handle the responsibility just don't do consignment. PS their selection is stale and overpriced, If you are looking for decent shops in the area try Record Safari, De La playa, Amoeba, Gimme Gimme, Arroyo, Jack Knife....
I have never been to a more overpriced record store anywhere in the world. This place is a bummer.
