Delicious Karage. If you're in the need for a quick chicken fix Anzu is your pit stop. The flavor is stupendous with a juicy succulence and tasteful fry that leaves you properly filled, more importantly not aching once you're finished. Don't take this little shack for granted. They specialize in your chicken fixin'.
Anzu is a keeper for to-go and quick dine-in on the sidewalk patio. I got the Japanese karaage fried chicken rice dish, which came with a salad with Japanese fusion grated carrot dressing ($8 before tax). Among the choices of dipping sauces, I chose ponzu (citrus soy sauce), but they also have mayo, tartar and sriracha aioli. Fried chicken was boneless white meat, very good marinade flavor and expertly fried, so it wasn't oily.
Anzu is closed, it has moved to Menya Tigre, and my favorite meal (Karaage & Curry) has changed for the worse. it’s still amazing karaage, the best in sawtelle, but now there is half as much chicken and no egg. Anzu has been a go to spot for me for years, it’s unfortunate to see these changes.
Beautiful Japanese Curry spot. You can't possibly be disappointed. If you are then nothing can satisfy you.
Don't judge a book by its cover. It's a very small outside-dining with little seating. However, the food was delicious. The curry goes well with all food choices. I had a Karaage burger and it was delicious! The prices are fair too. You don't get a great view of the area, but it's okay because the food makes up for it all. I'm coming here again!
We get take out here every few weeks. My favorite thing about this place is thier small side salads. The sesame-ginger japanese dressing is fresh and delicious. I always get and extra side salad. My partner loves the karaage chicken 🍗 with siracha aloi. I agree they are good, but I can only eat a few before feeling too heavy/rich. Same for the keema curry dish: good but it's rich. Wish they had a small size. The french fries are surprising good given that they are seasoned. Yum!
Best chicken I've had on the west coast hands down. If it's your first time going get the Chicken Sandwich and wings with the Aoli sauce. Can't go wrong. It's a small hole-in-the-wall type of eatery with no inside seating, only a small area outside that can fit around 6 people. It's about a 15 minute wait so prepare for outside weather.
Great spot, fries could be fresher
Let me tell you I've tried a lot of karaage both here and in Japan. Anzu is my absolute favorite! Consistent and incredibly delicious. Best karaage in LA no doubt!!
The Karage was great! Juicy and moist with not too much breading. Some of the best I've had. The chicken sandwich however was good, but not as good as the Karage.
Very happy I found this place. The chicken karaage was my favorite. Very well seasoned high quality chicken. Fries and keema curry were also great. I wasn’t a huge fan of the ginger pork.
Anzu is low frills and a place to stop by for a quick meal or snack. You order through a small window and there are a few chairs and tables for customers. I would not come with a large group and expect to find seating as it's difficult enough to nab seats for 2 people. I would not consider myself a Karaage expert but Anzu's Karaage is pretty bomb. Juicy (JUICY!!) chicken fried to perfection and paired with one of four sauces. I also found that portions are pretty generous for the price. I think their burger/hot dog options are pretty interesting too and I'd come back to try those out next time. TIP: If you're eating at Anzu or other restaurants in this plaza/center, they also have a parking lot in the back which is SO convenient since parking around Sawtelle can definitely be a pain.
Great place for a quick bite. Karaage chicken is very good and fresh. Would recommend eating right away at their outside standing tables for the best flavor.
This, to me, is Sawtelle's hidden gem. The chicken is cheap, delicious, and comes in portions you can't argue against. Every menu item I've tried, chicken or not, has been shockingly good. They're always playing old-school reggae out of the lonely speaker near the door. You won't be disappointed.
Great quality food. Good prices.
The fries are amazing and the chicken is so juicy! Had a problem with my order but they gave me a new one right away! Will definitely be coming back here.
I love this place. The food is amazing, the service is quick and the quality is always good. Also they make great leftovers for the rest of the week so I always make sure to order extra. The chicken always stays so tender even days later.
Karaage is amazing. Today was my first time trying it and it was absolutely worth every penny. Would recommend to anyone visiting Sawtelle!!
Great small shop right off of Sawtelle. Specializes in Japanese friend chicken (karaage) and does it very well. Portions are well worth the price, plus there are full meals with rice and a salad side or sandwiches. I almost always just get the karaage though since it's so freaking good. Dashi fries are also a tasty addon.
Best chicken karaage I've had. Crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. I recommend squeezing lemon on it and dipping it in their sriracha aioli.
Chicken was super tender and the 15 piece is a great price for how much food you get. Pickup time also really fast after I put my order in.
Anzu serves extremely delicious Japanese food!. Their menu is unlike the usual Japanese fare available in Sawtelle. I recommend getting the karaage. It's best karaage I've had outside of Japan! The staff is all super friendly here too, and they're always playing reggae so the vibe is really relaxed. とても美味しかった日本料理です。この場所て他のレストランよりアンズの食べ物は珍しいと思う。これを強くすすめる!👏🏽
The karaage curry was really good!
Extremely juicy and tender chicken interior. Light layer of batter exterior. Wish I had eaten it right away instead of takeout as it wasn't super crispy. They also threw in an extra piece for me even though I only ordered 5 pieces. Overall good price value and excellent food. Probably best karaage on Sawtelle. Would recommend.
Best burger in town so far! This is not fast food, food is made to order, so expect to wait ~15min for your order. Amazing karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and burgers are consistently superb!
A low-key, no nonsense shop serving up some of the best curry I've had in my life. So good that I ate here twice before leaving LA. Do yourself a favor and pick up their Karaage & Curry with a 5 piece to go. You won't regret it.
Tasty fried chicken better known as karaage in Japanese. The crust is very flavorful with seasoning. I like the karaage burger best with the jalapeño ranch aioli. Fries are seasoned. What is really great is that there is ample parking in the lot next door, which is really key in the Sawtelle neighborhood.
Karaage city! Great reputation well deserved. Tiny storefront perfect for takeout, but fried chicken is better fresh from the fryer. 🍋 I love to max out lemon and ponzu but that is my prefrenece. The creamy sauces are too much with fried foods IMHO. Curry is pretty good too, but the chicken... The chicken is why you drive all this way to the Westside! Service is prompt no fuss easy going.
Japanese Karaage stand in Sawtelle. If you check in on Yelp, you can get an extra sauce. We tried the house sauce, aioli, and ranch - all were good, but the aioli was the favorite. We split the Karaage as a light dinner/heavy snack, as well as small fries. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. It came piping hot and we ate at the outside seating (indoor seating not available). They packaged the food in to-go containers and it seems to primarily operate as a takeout spot. Metered street parking available. Credit cards accepted.
First visit and I love this place. Perfectly cooked karaage. Crispy and juicy. You can just inhale them. I also had the cheese burger which I was a little skeptical of, but I really wanted a cheese burger. Was not disappointed one bit. Was not dry at all which was my biggest fear. Instead it was a juicy burger on a soft fresh bun with fresh lettuce and tomato, caramelized onions and a tasty sauce. My go to for now will probably be a burger and a 5 piece karrage. The teriyaki burger also sounded bomb, especially now knowing that I can trust the decision to get a burger! I'll probably give those hotdogs a try too at some point. Do note that it's very limited seating out front of an almost hard to see hole in the wall with a small window you order from.
I liked their curry and karaage dish; worth for the price. There's even parking in the back. If you've been to Sawtelle, you know how the parking situation is like.
I ordered the grilled chicken salad. The grilled chicken is warm, well-seasoned without being salty, and chopped into bite-size pieces. Also comes with grape tomato and corn. The lettuce looks like green leaf, rather than the ubiquitous iceberg, which is a plus. The sesame dressing is very thick, and you get more than enough. It will spread well with the heat of the chicken. I just wish they had more seating here. Great value and flavor, especially for the price!
The fried chicken is simple yet so juicy, crispy, and flavorful. Anzu has one specialty and it’s so good you won’t need or want anything else. I recommend the sriracha aioli as a dipping sauce. If you love karaage you do not want to pass this place by.
Great spot for a quick bite to eat for a lunch or dinner. Ordered the karaage bowl and everything was excellent about it, especially the karaage of course.
Solid fried chicken! Really juicy and flavorful and the aoli dipping sauce is great. My cat wanted some too 😁

My son and I tried the popcorn, chicken and burger. We love the chicken. It was juicy not dry. The burger was like your standard burger. I will have to add my son. Did not add their secret sauce so that may have made a difference. Seems like a family ran restaurant. They are very attentive and friendly.

The karaage is good! You got 6 big chunks of chicken karaage for the rice menu with salad on the side, definitely a good value of money. The only reason why I give them 4 stars because I usually prefer a crispier karaage, so it depends on the preference. The place is definitely not for hanging out, but it is sufficient to eat. Definitely will be back if I crave a good karaage!
The Baseline: Be open. This is more of an update as Anzu the official location is closed permanently. Silver lining is that the menu is available at Menya Tigre around the corner. I will review there separately. Food: Great Karaage chicken and fries. Service: No more service as it is closed. Atmosphere: A closed restaurant.
This tastes EXACTLY like the Cajun chicken little from Cheesecake Factory and I am here for it. I got the curry and it was very good. The food comes out hot and fresh and has great overall flavor. The vibe is also cool cause it’s this little shake that plays cool music. There is also never a wait for this place which is weird but I’m not complaining. Good food but nothing mind blowing.
I've been meaning to try this chicken since late 2019 and I finally had an opportunity yesterday afternoon. The only reason I did is because the local Udon place was packed and I didn't feel like waiting or eating around too many people at the time. The chicken is great and has its own unique flavor compared to other karaage I've had in my lifetime. I love the location and how it's tucked away from all the other eateries in Sawtelle Japantown. The eating area is also nice and peaceful. I will definitely be back to try the burgers and dogs in the future. 🍛
Karage was Very juicy with small amount of breading. The sandwich was good just need a little sauce .
Ordered the 5 piece karage chicken and an order of fries. Food was hot and fresh and the portions were good. The chicken was juicy and crispy. The sriracha dipping sauce was perfect for the chicken and the fries.

I wanted to love it and I can't even say that I like it. I ordered the karaage rice & ginger pork plates and it was high sodium hospital food. So many places to eat on Sawtelle, skip this one!
Underwhelming takeout experience. Photos on website very misleading. Ordered the curry karaage plate and received barely any salad and no egg.

A 50 percent increase in price of some items in a matter of a few months is a hard pass for me. Wont be going back here again.
