Black Sheep is the kind of burger joint you want to stumble upon during your lunch break. The burgers are full of flavor, and cooked as ordered. The combination of toppings melded perfectly with the seasonings and that beautifully toasted bun. The thick cut zig-zag fries both zigged and zagged under a generous dusting of spices. Do yourself a favor and clock out for an early lunch at Black Sheep Burgers.

Despite this being a “counter-programming” of sorts to the heavy Asian-themed Sawtelle dining scene, this is my pick for best food in the area! The burgers are spot on: Puffy baked brioche bun, perfectly washed and crispy lettuce, deliciously made pickles and the sumptuous juicy patty, all making this burger one of the best in town. For sides, I recommend the 1940s French fries: super crispy on the outside but soft on the inside and always made fresh. The prices are reasonable too. Compared to standing in line for overpriced ramen and sushi in the area, this spot definitely wins out any day.

Ordered for pickup and ended up using their outdoor seating area. Our first experience was great, friendly service and food was delicious! We got curry fries, salmon salad and the chicken katsu bowl. Their curry fries was ingenious and had the right amount of spicy to it. The salmon salad was perfect and the katsu burger could have used a sauce...A bit bland but the sprouts added made me feel like I was eating healthy burger lol I'll definitely be back

If you like cheeseburgers, do yourself a favor and treat your tastebuds to a juicy burger from Black Sheep Burgers. Street parking can be tricky in this neighborhood, be prepared to walk a little. Place your order inside and tables are set up outside, no indoor seating seating yet. Orders are brought out to you. We ordered two Black Sheep Burgers with cheddar cheese then added bacon and avocado, ask for extra napkins, you’ll need them. The bun is fresh and squishy, the burger is bursting with juices and flavor, not one bad thing to say here. Great great burger. I will be back to try the other items on the Black Sheep menu chopped salads, sandwiches and bowls.

No “baa-d” burgers here! 🐑🍔 Black Sheep Burgers in Japantown delivered exactly what I was craving. No line meant my 2x2 double cheeseburger arrived fast, and the staff was friendly. The burger itself? Thick, juicy, and perfectly cooked—a refreshing change from the usual smash burger trend (which I’m not a fan of). If you're looking for a solid, well-made burger without the smash, this place won’t lead you astray. I’ll definitely be flocking back for more!

Went to black sheep on the fourth of july! Had a vegi buger which was pretty good at the price it was a steal. The place is jice the interour a little off the wall and different the staff was nice and helpful all and all a good experience.

DELICIOUS!! I had the "Date Burger", because it intrigued me, and when I asked the employee/ cashier which burger she liked, she said the "Date Burger" was her favorite without me mentioning my choice. Dates, bacon, almond encrusted goat cheese, honey, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Ordered mine medium rare. Also had crinkle fries. Truly fresh, delicious ingredients. Loved every bite!! My girlfriend got the "Money Burger", skippy peanut butter, strawberry jam, bacon, banana and granola. She loved it! The decor of the restaurant is whimsical, and fun. You must go!!

Probably the first time in my experience when a highly rated place has good burgers. I ordered here 3 times just in case. First time was a burger with crab and avocado (Katsu burger), it was slightly spicy but ok. Other 2 times I ordered regular burgers: 2x2 burger and a burger with swiss cheese and bacon (Hickory burger). Even though they sound japanese, they are American burgers. All of them are good, the only difference is in ingredients and cheese.

My husband and I LOVE a good burger and are pretty particular about them. Black Sheep was definitely one of the best burger places we've ever tried. It's odd, when you walk in it looks like a tiny bakery, not a burger joint. It's almost confusing cause there's a menu outside and no menu inside (at least that we noticed). Just deserts and cold pastas inside. BUT we ordered 3 different burgers, all were yummy and well made. The first was a burger with bananas, peanut butter, jelly, bacon, and a beef patty. Sounds bizarre but my toddler LOVED it. Another has crab salad stuff, avocado, seaweed, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, and katsu sauce on a beef patty. Delicious. The last one was similar to the crab one, but with spicy tuna (like a sushi roll). To top it off, the curry fries were sooo yummy. We make curry fries at home and these definitely rival them. And they've got the good ranch.

Stop by with my sister. Order the black sheep Burger, Jamaican wings and fries. All tasted freshly made. Delicious.

The most incredible burger. The brioche bun is pure perfection. The meat is juicy and delicious. I tried the date burger and the combination of goat cheese and bacon is superb. Fries are crispy. No alcohol yet they offer a curated selection of non-alcoholic drinks (South African Bos roiboos teas). Friendly staff, good prices and great decor.

It took a bit to choose which burger I wanted to try because they have a lot of great options on the menu. I decided to try the Date Burger and the California Chicken Burger. We also got a side of Chili Cheese Fries, and Regular Fries. The Date Burger seems to be the most popular order and I can see why. The goat cheese on it really made it for me, and the patty was seasoned perfectly. The California Chicken Burger was actually a stand out because the chicken was juicy and really matched well with the avocado. The fries were also really good and I really liked the chili cheese. It tastes closer to a Cincinnati Chili, but still it was very good. Overall, a great burger spot in a quieter part of Los Angeles. I definitely would recommend to any burger fan and I plan to be back soon to try more items.

Service was friendly and great too. A lot of people ask if this the same black sheep burger spot that used to be in DTLA, it is not. This place is affiliated with 26 Beach. We love everything about the Black Sheep. They don't just have burgers, you can get a great California roll there as well. The place is small. You pay at the counter. There is a few seats outside. Most people get take away or delivery. It is super clean. The service is very nice and they are fast. It does not take long to get your food. Their burgers are great. I love the meat they use. They cook them all to order and they prepare the meat the way you want it and not burnt to a crisp like many places do now. The Katsu California Roll is crab, avocado, sushi ginger, nori, wasabi, mayo, tomato, and cucumber on a beef patty. Yes, on a beef patty and it is great. We love the Yuki Spicy Tuna that has, sushi ginger, nori, wasabi, mayo, tomato, and cucumber on a beef patty. It might sound strange, but they are so good. We also love all of their salads. They make a great Chinese chicken salad and a wonderful, but simple, garden salad. Their fries are great as is their chili. If you want you can get a simple double-double burger and it is one of your favorites. You will love this place.

An underrated burger joint in Sawtelle. They have a huge menu of different burgers at a very reasonable price point. I've had the date burger and the black sheep burger, and they've both impressed. They usually have daily specials too that come with fries. In an era where burgers cost $20+, this place is a black sheep.

I can hands down recommend this burger place! I’d rate the burger a 9.5/10. That’s the highest I’ve rated any burger ever! Perfect proportions, everything fits in your mouth in one delicious bite. They bacon is perfectly crispy too. The reason I deducted a star is because the fries were too greasy and not crispy enough. The oil must have been too cold during frying. If they perfect their fries, it would be a 10/10. That said, their chilli fries were amazing. The chilli was perfect, not overpowered by cumin which I hate. I’ll be back here for sure!

Juicy, tasty and what the Quarter Pounder would dream of being. Even with McDonald’s fresh beef, it’s not even close to how satisfying this burger is. All these reviews aren’t for nothing. If you’re in the area and want killer sandwiches or burgers this is the spot.

I ordered Black Sheep Burgers food through Grub Hub. I had never had their food before so I ordered a few things to last a few days. Chinese Chicken Salad, Chicken sandwich, Brussel Sprouts, Chili Cheese fries and chocolate cake. I dug in and forgot to take picture. Sorry, but this is the best Chinese Chicken Salad I have EVER HAD! Sandwich delicious, everything was delicious. Also, big bonus what I ordered actually showed up too. Nothing missing, nothing wrong! Lil poppin place with all kinds of interesting food items! Balsamic brussel sprouts, a sushi-style burger, sweet and savory burger, etc. They were busy so it was a bit of a wait to get our food, but they let us know before we finished ordering.

The burger was probably one of the best ones I've had in a while. The french fries were even pretty good better than I thought. I got a double cheeseburger with all the fixins It was great. We sit outside had a great meal and watched all the people walking through. The area is very busy I'm parking is tough but I think this was worth a trip.

A solid classic style burger and a neighborhood spot. I ordered the classic black sheep burger and the quality of the meat was great, good proportion of meat bun and veggies. The cross cut fries were great and came out hot (super important)

This place is a hidden gem! Tiny but super cute and decorated with love and energy :) Their food is great! I got the Cali Chicken burger, my friends got the Brunch Burger and Teriyaki Cheese steak sandwich, they we're all really good! Get their fries too if you have enough room in your tummy!

I recently went in to pick up lunch for myself and a colleague. The beautiful lady working the cash register was sooo sincere, sweet, hospitable and peaceful. I immediately felt a sense of warmth. We got the Black Sheep salad, the Caesar salad, Fries, Cauliflower wings, Buffalo Chicken wings and Brussel sprouts. The salad was very fresh but I forgot to tell them to hold the bacon. They were kind enough scoop the bits out for me. The lady at the cash register noticed the balsamic dressing was eating from my bag and she quickly repackaged everything for me and made sure I remembered to take my mineral water. Parking is a lot easier on a week day, other than that, it's the luck of the draw. This restaurant gets busy and stays busy regardless. Actually, I call Sawtelle the Restaurant Row because that whole place is jumping with delicious, various eateries and desserts, etc. This is definitely a spot to check out. Dog friendly, family friendly...Black Sheep burgers hit the spot. I would order the chicken again and try the California Roll burger with the panko fried chicken instead of beef. I wouldn't get the salad again and my colleague said her salad was just alright. I also wouldn't get the Brussel Sprouts again. RUSH in Culver City has some tasty sprouts and I make a very tasty rendition myself! Lol. I will put this restaurant back in my rotation and return to them before the month is over.

Decent! They have all kinds of unusual burgers. I just tried a brunch burger. It has bacon, cheese, an egg, lettuce, and tomato. I switched to American cheese and added thousand island dressing. I did not get lettuce or tomato on mine. I had the 1940's fries, which are just krinkle fries. They were very well seasoned and crispy, just the way I like them. They only have a small, not very exciting selection of bottled drinks. They were extremely fast with my meal and it was served hot and fresh! I went about 6p on a Wednesday. The parking lot usually has a valet, but they weren't there, so free and convenient to park. They have an itty bitty indoor dining area with 3 small tables and counter dining. They also have a little patio dining area in front. The staff were very nice and I will definitely return for my future burger cravings!

I really liked my burger and fries, it was simple but fresh, and served warm! I was not expecting their outdoor dining to be just a couple tables on the busy sidewalk, but it was fine. The inside of the shop was cute, with friendly staff.

The entrance to the lot is on Mississippi, and the sign says YAMAGUCHI. For those who know the history, this location was the formal Japanese family owned Yamaguchi store. Nice inviting outdoor protected seating as well as indoor counter seating, however there is one corner table spot. Staff was very friendly, efficient and kind.

The cauliflower and string beans are ok, but the Brussel Sprouts really give my jaw a workout - without much flavor. The salmon is cooked exceptionally well for a fast food place. This is a decent burger spot with unique items like the "Katsu California Roll" or "Curry Burger". The burgers are easy to eat and moderately portioned. It's not one of those extremely messy burgers where you have to chomp at it from different angles and it's falling apart. One burger is enough to fill you up. With a burger + fries, expect to pay about $18-20 per person. Check it out if you want a non-traditional hamburger. I personally don't think the flavors or burger size packs enough punch to warrant this price range for me to return anytime soon.

So they have a very unique quirky menu i.e crab meat on a burger patty. It seems like they take the burger culture and combine it with the surrounding restaurants themes. Which is seafood and sushi. However in person purchases they do NOT SUPPORT TAP APPLE PAY. which I’ve included a picture of. So be warned that you need a physical card or cash. That being said the staff is well educated in cooking on time and getting orders out. The staff who took my order is also supporting kitchen staff and you can’t help but notice how fast and how well they work together.
