I love that Coco has come to the US . I have spent time at many branches throughout Japan and it really makes things special that you can enjoy this curry once you’re back home . You can always count on this place to deliver an incredible meal . I really want to shout out one employee at this location , I was able to redeem my points for a limited edition golden spoon . You cannot buy this spoon , the only way to get it is to earn points . The girl who presented me with the golden spoon really made the experience special, she has such passion for her job , the same way employees in Japan go above and beyond to really show dedication to their work . This place is the best !
We got an extra big curry which is +$2 and we got the food enough for 2 hungry adults! The curry is really good especially with the cutlet. Be mindful about the tablet for orders it’s to go only and the server was a little fuzzy about the tips and making the order for here. But overall is nice busy and delicious spot
A Japanese chain staple in the US serving delicious curry that you can personalize in many ways. The food is excellent, very flavorful without being overly strong. The spiciness level can be adjusted but be warned, it can bring in the heat. Free pickled radish to add on your curry as well.
I love CocoIchi! I had many lunches and dinners at this restaurant in Japan. I'm glad that they're able to match the quality here in the US. It's very flavorful--some of the best Japanese curry you can find! Just be cautious with the spice level, because even a 2 is higher than you'd expect.
Excellent place to have decent Japanese curry chicken! We ordered chicken cutlet salad and katsu chicken omelet with rice. The portion was filling and enough for two people. The chickens are crispy yet juicy and flavorful. They also give you a side of garlic naan which is a good surprise! The place is a bit off the center area of Sawtelle, so less food traffic and crowds (and wait time) .
The curry is absolutely to die for. Such amazing flavor and savory taste that I was not expecting. The price and portion of each plate is great — it’s on the cheaper side and fills you up so much! I couldn’t even finish my food. I highly recommend checking out of these locations if you have a chance.
Coco Curry always brings me and my family back to our Okinawa days. We came in, a party of 7, to celebrate my son's birthday. It was packed, so we had split tables. When another table next to us became available, the staff was so accommodating and cleaned the area promptly so we could all sit together. The taste has always been consistent. My kids are adults now, and we're so happy to hear about this location cuz it's near all the other places we visit. This taste is Home. Arigato gosaimasu, Coco Curry. **update: I just learned that they have a public parking behind them a couple driveways back (not the immediate one behind). They share parking with the apartment complex, it says public on sign. I know parking gets tricky at different times in the day so this is a good option and it beats having to walk a couple blocks or so esp if you have all your 5 hungry kids in tow! (Today i had a regular size Okra Tofu, level 2 spice and it hit the spot as always. That spice is new for me and still loved it!) Dine in was marvelous, attentive staff, fast ordering and fresh food in a few minutes of sitting down. Ordered to go as packaging was great as always. They sell Coco Ichiban souvenir spoons now too so I had to get it. Get yours before it runs out. See you again Coco Curry!
Sawtelle has so many good restaurants, and I am glad that Coco Curry has added to the variety of restaurants that people get to choose from. I am also relieved to see their business thrive because this restaurant served delicious Japanese food 👍🏻😋. Customer service was great and food was served relatively quickly (we waited 10 minutes). Bathroom was clean and the place was cozy. The lighting in the restaurant was also reasonably bright to have an enjoyable dining experience! The food: - Stewed Beef Curry (10/10) 🍛🐄: I enjoyed this dish the most 💯. The curry was aromatic, tasted amazing(I didn't leave a single drop of the curry on my plate)! The rice, well, when has Japanese rice ever disappointed you? It smelled as good as it tasted. The beef was savory. I wish they would give more meat for this dish, but no complaints here! - Chicken Cutlet Curry Udon (9/10) 🍗🍜: This was great! The taste of the curry was similar. I thought the chicken cutlet was great too! The only downside was the texture of the udon, I thought it was a little bit on the soft side. Nevertheless, this would be a great bowl of udon 👍🏻😋. Parking in Sawtelle has always been challenging but at least they don’t force you into doing valet parking like they would in Koreatown 😨! Overall, I had a really experience dining here and would recommend Coco Curry to any foodie and especially, curry lovers.
I hope more people learn about this place. I went to 3 different locations in Los Angeles and the curry here is the closest to what they serve in Japan. My pork cutlet was a little bland, but the curry was exactly what I wanted. Parking was plentiful and customer service was great! Spread the word and try it if you haven't. I live over 2000 miles away, so I'm extremely jealous of people in LA.
I usually don’t order Japanese curry in a restaurant because it’s easy to find those curry blocks in Asian supermarkets and they taste great. However, I don’t fry anything at home because they use too much oil to prep and I try not to eat fried food. So when I found out this Japanese curry place (similar to the Curry House that no longer exists) and offers chicken or pork cutlet, I decided to give it a try! The first thing I noticed when I walked into the newly opened restaurant was a self-ordering machine. It was only for ordering food to go, but not for dine in…very strange. I thought this was a fast casual semi-self service place, but I guess not. I talked to the waiter and got a spot at the outdoor patio. Any place that has an outdoor patio is always a plus for me because I love to bring my dog with me on the weekends. The waiter was friendly and he came by and checked with us a few times. The menu was quite confusing. You could customize anything you want on the first page, but the menu also had a bunch of other options on the following pages. The waiter said I could pretty much pick anything I want and mix and match. And to my surprise, they offered to customize the spiciness level. They offered spiciness levels from 1-20 and I asked him what was the equivalent to the Thai spicy food. He said most people order 2 but he said level 4 was very spicy. So my wife and I ordered spiciness level 4. I ordered pork cutlet udon and she ordered chicken cutlet with omelet over rice, and we also added a karaage chicken on the side to share. The food arrived quickly and it looked appetizing. Both chicken and pork cutlets were cooked to perfection! They had thin crispy batter (not oily) and the meat was juicy. And the curry at spiciness level 4 was spicy! My wife thought it was too spicy for her and it was about as spicy as I could handle. Anything higher than this would make the dish too spicy and I wouldn’t be able to taste anything else. The spiciness blended well with the base curry. The omelet wasn’t the flowy omelet like what I saw on YouTube. It was just a scrambled egg over the rice. The karaage chicken had a sweet and spicy flavor to it, it was similar to Korean chicken flavor. Overall, I loved this place. Their curry was flavorful and you could customize the spiciness level that I couldn’t replicate at home. Their cutlets were cooked to perfection. I can’t wait to come back again.
Excellent curry! Big portions and good prices. I shared the chicken and veggie curry bowl and dumpling salad and it was so much food. If you need some comfort food, definitely stop here! A new Sawtelle fav!
This is basically fast food but it's yummy and the servers are exceptionally good. Love them. oh, and you can't beat the prices for a solid chicken cutlet and rice... probably one of the cheapest places in the city too. 5 stars for what it is.
Great food, excellent vibes, I keep coming back several times, this is our go to restaurant in Sawtelle. All their rice and udon dishes are excellent and delicious. ❤️ Their undon curry's main chicken is excellent but some of the chicken in their curry can be slightly bland. That is the only thing and even despite that, 5 stars, every dish of theirs is a 10/10, homerun!
It was insanely good. I ordered their takeout today, and the curry paired with the crispy chicken cutlet was just amazing. I can’t even imagine how good it must be when dining in. This is the best Japanese restaurant I’ve had in LA, though I haven’t tried that many. This place is way better than Sugarfish (their dishes are pretty mediocre). It’s also far better than Nanbankan, the yakitori there is bland and the ingredients are just average. Overall, this is the best Japanese restaurant in LA.
Delicious japanese curry that can never go wrong. Excellent flavors, great taste and a must visit place for all the curry lovers. Thr chicken is perfectly cooked, the curry spice level can be customized to your spice tolerance. The garlic naan and kheema was excellent too
I really love the curry rice here! I truly miss this restaurant. They serve a solid Japanese-style curry rice dish that you can customize — from the amount of rice to the spice level with a small change. I highly recommend ordering the curry rice with fried pork; it tastes amazing. This place is quite popular, so it often gets crowded. The decor is bright and adorable. For takeout orders, they have a self-service screen where you can browse the menu and pay directly, which is very convenient.
Who doesn’t love a good curry. 🍽️🍚 really convenient, super fast, good portions! I really like it you can adjust the rice portion (add more or ask for less), and you can add toppings!
First time eating here and let me tell you the portions are HUGE! The cutlet was very crispy and the curry well seasoned. I was eyeing a customer who ordered a GIANT glass of Thai tea and was tempted to order one too but maybe next time when I visit once more 😂 It was a bit noisy but bearable because I was focusing on finishing my plate. The prices is affordable and well worth the portions.
I visited Curry House CoCo Ichibanya in Sawtelle for a weekday lunch and had a very pleasant experience. I ordered the pork cutlet curry, and it was truly delicious the cutlet was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and matched perfectly with the rich curry sauce. I was pleasantly surprised by how satisfying it was. The restaurant itself is clean and well-kept, creating a comfortable dining environment. While there is no terrace seating and the overall atmosphere is not particularly stylish, the interior is bright and tidy, making it ideal for a quick, casual meal. Even at lunchtime, it did not feel overly crowded, so I was able to enjoy my food at a relaxed pace. I also appreciated that it feels approachable and casual enough for solo diners, families, or friends alike. Overall, CoCo Ichibanya on Sawtelle is perfect when you want authentic Japanese-style curry in Los Angeles. With its consistently tasty food, clean setting, and convenient atmosphere, it’s a spot I would be happy to return to whenever I’m craving comfort food.
Nay provided outstanding service during our visit to Coco Ichibanya. He was very friendly, attentive, and patient while explaining the menu and spice levels. His recommendations were spot on, and he made sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. Thanks to Nay, our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. Great service!
Glad we finally have a coco in the area. The fried chicken was surprisingly good and held its own against the always good pork cutlet. Everything comes out hot, probably cause the place is always busy. I ordered a level 2 spice, which isn’t very spicy but adds a nice warmth overall. Service is fine, the place is pretty busy so it may be hard to get a server’s attention. Parking can be a pain but they do offer free validated parking which is an amazing perk for the area.
It’s a very good curry but it doesn’t have that umami that Curry house had in Lil tokyo that suddenly shut down. Still don’t know till this day, anyways, I got the beef stew with Omelette, spice level 2, with large rice. First bite of the beef and curry were amazing! Then i incorporated with all the rice and egg and omg, the fluffyness of the egg. Very heavenly buttery. I almost finished my plate but got full immediately cuz i had iced coffee as well. Coffee was not sweet but a good balance of milk froth and the bitterness of the coffee complemented each other real well. I usually like my coffee just like a Starbucks type, but this was a good one since the oil from the curry balances with the coffee in my opinion. Took the rest to go and the waitress was nice as well. I believe her name is Meredith or Mary. I know it starts with an M hahaha. I will be coming back here soon~

Came here after a long day and had their triple chicken curry. Definitely boosted my strength and left me fulfilled! The service was great thanks to my server Margaret's energy and passion for the food here, her energy really shows how much she cares about this place and it's food. Definitely will come back here soon for another pick-me-up!

This place is located on Wilshire Blvd and in Brentwood area of Los Angeles. Parking won’t be easy but we came in on Sunday so we got a spot for free. The food is okay. The staff are friendly. They are still practicing distance protocol so they limit people who wants to dine in and so, we had to wait for our turn. Their menu needs to be scanned by your phone. They provide wifi for that too! We love Japanese curry from Japan and this is the closest to it but I gave it 4 stars because it didn’t taste like the food in Japan which is of course, authentic Japanese curry.
The food was good. No one greets you at the door. No one pays attention to you when you enter but they do glance at you. You have to check yourself in using the qr code posted on a sheet of paper on the wall. The counter is for wait-list. Do not try to cut the line and seat yourself. Once seated the menus are on the table. They brought us water pretty quickly but we didn't know we were also supposed to order with another qr code on a little tent sign on the table because it was flipped until the server finally came by to check on us. The food came out pretty quickly and looks pretty much like it's pictured. Don't be fooled though. That one bowl is a lot. I had the fried chicken with regular rice and my husband had the okra and tofu. We also ordered a side of fries with baked cheese. Everything was delicious. But if you need something at this place you have to flag someone down. So, food was good but service is mid. And the curry has peanuts.
Japanese curry chain. You can order takeout via the screens there or dine-in. It is vegetarian friendly. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. Street parking. Credit cards accepted. We got the pork cutlet curry with rice and the chicken udon curry - both were yummy but if you’re there for the first time, I’d recommend getting a curry with rice. The takeout boxes are cleverly designed to separate the curry sauce from the dry foods, and it comes with pickled veggies. The curry sauce is thick and flavorful. You can choose what level of spice you’d like; I went for a 6 and I think I personally could’ve gone higher. They do have mild options. Vegetarian options are available. The portion sizes are generous and you can get two servings from a plate. The employees were nice and the atmosphere is casual.
Omg!! I love Japanese curry and this place is a classic. I am so happy to have it on the Westside, especially after Curry House closed across the street. There was a short wait for Saturday night, but nothing crazy. It's only street parking, so be warn that it took longer to find parking than wait for a table. The food! You HAVE to get the keema fries! It's basically chili cheese fries with a bang! It was so good! Got the chicken katsu with vegetables, spice level 2. Level 2 was perfect, it had a kick, didn't linger, just the right amount. I can handle spice but not where it's just on every single bite, so if you want a kick, I think level 2 is all you need. We also go the chicken katsu and the build your own with omelet, add tofu and okra. That was really decent as well. You can really play around with what you like. Overall this place is a nice little spot in Sawtelle to grab some comfort food.
We come during lunch time on Sunday and the restaurant was packed. Luckily, we were seated immediately. - thin sliced beef curry: it was super tasty. The sliced beef curry was very tender and the curry coated each sliced beautifully. - pork cutlet omelette curry: it was good but I prefer the previous. The pork cutlet was crispy and tender. The omelette was perfectly cooked. For some reason, the curry on this tasted a bit less intense and meh.
Had dinner with my friend tonight. I ordered the beef stew with veggies it was tasty but the beef was a little tough to chew. My friend ordered chicken and he was satisfied. The music was a bit loud and unpleasant, service a little slow but busy.
A chain Japanese curry restaurant. We ordered the karage curry udon and chicken kasu omlette curry. The karage chicken wasn't crispy enough, chicken kasu was a bit overcooked. Overall flavor is good.
I’ve both dined in and ordered takeout from this restaurant multiple times. Overall, the menu is extensive, and the flavors are consistently satisfying. The omelet, in particular, stands out for its perfectly soft texture — a comforting complement to their signature Japanese curry. This is a solid spot if you’re craving Japanese-style curry dishes. That said, there are a couple of minor issues worth noting. The spiciness level can be inconsistent — I typically order level 1, but the heat varies noticeably between visits. Additionally, the pork cutlet can sometimes be a bit too firm, especially at the ends.
classic Japanese curry… price point was good for amount of food served… service was quick and friendly… my pork cutlet was a bit dry, overcooked a bit, but still good when mixed with the gravy. I ordered just one notch above “regular” hot and was just barely spicy hot… too bad they charge extra to increase heat level
The Baseline: For Japanese curry the sauce must have body with spice/flavor, the meats must be prepared well, the add ons must be good, and the environment must be welcoming. Food: The curry I had was good and tasty. The fried chicken was crisp and hot, mixed well with the curry sauce. The vegetable add ons were well prepared as well but were pretty standard. I enjoyed the spice level and only went to a 2 which was a good level. It can go level 20 on spice which I will put on my avoid at all costs list. Service: The food was delivered to the table quickly and the staff was friendly. My water glass was filled consistently. Ambiance: This was a nice clean place with good decor.
Im giving this a 4 solely cause i love coco and the service provided but really disappointed today. Our chicken was really tough and i felt like they skimped us on how much chicken they gave😭
It's been a very long time since I've been to a Coco Curry House! Stopped here for lunch for spicy Japanese curry. The menu has expanded to include omelet rice curry and nan options, but the core curry menu (with the huge range of spice levels) remains tried and true. There was no line/wait during a Friday lunch, reservations not required. Parking is always tough to find for any Sawtelle restaurant.

New location close to the teaspoon boba shop and next to the LadyM store. This chain restaurant won’t disappoint but surely nothing surprises either. It’s known for its curry donburi (rice). I like the omelette ones. Pork cutlet and meatballs are both good. Their spicy level could be adjusted. I ordered 6 and it’s already pretty spicy. I’d recommend 2/3. The portion is okay. Service is okay here. I like how they have a patio outdoor and we could bring our dog and chill during our meal. It’s a bit more expensive now than I expected.
We had a group dinner on Friday night at Coco Ichibanya, Sawtelle location in LA. Parking was hard to find. We sat outdoor for group of 8 people. They had heat lamps for outdoor seating. To view their menu, you had to use the QR code provided at the table. We all ordered different dishes and at different spice levels. The meals took a while to come out but they were hot with steams so that’s a plus for us. However, some of our dishes had lots of curry sauce but some had very little curry sauce. So, we ordered extra curry sauces at level 10. After waiting for more than 10 minutes for the extra curry sauce, we had the waiter to check on status. Waiter told us the kitchen placed the priority in getting the new dishes out for customers who were waiting for their meals and lower priority placed for customers who ordered extra sauce. They said that the extra curry sauces had to be cooked separately as new orders. So we had to wait for another 7 minutes and got the extra sauces. We honestly couldn’t tell the differences between spice level 2 or spice level 10, all tasted like the normal average level. What surprised us the most was we saw extra fees for different spice levels on our bill. So, there was a charge for each higher spice level. That’s weird. So overall, curry food was decent and would satisfy the curry craving on a cold, rainy day. But their curry sauce was inconsistent in terms of taste flavor, colors, spice levels and the sauce textures. On the positive note, restaurant has a decent variety of options to have with curry such as chicken, fried cutlets, pork, beef, meatballs, shrimps, clams, dumplings, etc. Also, they have assortments of toppings like corns, eggs, tomato and mushrooms. You can choose to have curry in rice dishes, udon dishes, keema or with naan bread. Note that you can order extra white rice and sauces (extra small curry sauce was around $3.7). They have limited dessert options. We will not be coming back to this restaurants for various reasons as there are lots of other restaurant to explore on Sawtelle.
The food is amazing but the service is not. I’ve honestly only three separate occasions and they consistently forget to pack utensils and napkins. This last time I went. Ordered 3 separate orders. Received only 2 out of 3 entree orders and the orders were even correct (e.g., missing add ons). I know I should’ve looked prior to leaving but shouldn’t I be able to trust the restaurants accuracy with their orders? I’m more upset of the lost of money then food to be honest. Please use my experience as a warning to check your food prior to leaving this place.

Incredibly stingy with their portions at this location. Whether dine-in or for to-go. Ordered a thin sliced beef curry plate for my little brother and he noticed there were only four pieces of the beef inside the curry… not to mention that the curry wasn’t filled to the top on any of the 3 plates I ordered to go. Didn’t expect for this to happen as it takes a while to commute here, and would’ve liked the experience to be worthwhile. Other than that the flavor is great Long time fan of Japanese curry, coco ichibanya and curry house locations especially
Food was just OK. At best. They do charge you for the spice level. I think it's insane that they charge you for spicy. So Pro tip just use the spice that is on the table it's basically the exact same thing you just add it in yourself if you want it to be spicier and not pay for the ridiculous amount they're trying to charge. Also the service was absolutely horrible the girl seemed like she was annoyed and bothered the entire time and wouldn't refill any drink. I don't recommend going if you want curry in this style I suggest sticking to Little Tokyo far better food quality and far better flavor profile
I am extremely disappointed with my recent experiences ordering takeout. This is now the second time I've received an incomplete order. Initially, my additional egg and cheese were missing, and today, I ordered two chicken curries – one with extra squid and the other with cheese. While they included the squid, they completely omitted the chicken Katsu, despite paying extra for it. Double-check take orders. I reached out to the restaurant to voice my concerns, but it seems they are indifferent to the issues I've encountered. This level of service is simply disappointing.

While they included the squid, they completely omitted the chicken Katsu, despite paying extra for it. Double-check take orders. I reached out to the restaurant to voice my concerns, but it seems they are indifferent to the issues I've encountered. This level of service is simply disappointing.
I always used to come to coco in West LA until it moved to sawtelle. Today I was craving it and had my fiance pick some up and I honestly was extremely disappointed with it for the first time. I ordered the minced beef cutlet which on their menu shows 6 slices of beef cutlet and I only got 4 pieces and keep in mind the end pieces of a cutlet are smaller so I only got two big slices. My fiance ordered a kids meal for our daughter which was just absolutely pathetic. A McDonald's kids meal has better presentation/ portion size. I never leave reviews but I had to for this. Also before all this the staff were difficult when ordering. Not me saying this is the best curry and trying to convert my fiance. $39.00 by the way.
I felt very unwelcome here. The older asian lady didn’t care to take my order which she got wrong btw. Ordered a garlic and cheese naan but they gave me a garlic naan, no big deal. Instead of giving me a new one they stuck it back in the oven and sprinkled cheese but caused the naan to become burnt and overcooked. Naan isn’t supposed to be crunchy or have the consistency of chips. I didn’t finish it. She never once checked on me after i got my food either. Never told me her name either. She would walk by me, make eye contact and turn the other way. She made it obvious she didn’t want me to be there. All i needed was a napkin. I was the only hispanic there which leads me to believe that was their issue. This is my favorite Japanese curry cause it reminds me of my time stationed in japan while i was in the Marine Corps. This has happened many times but i’m done coming here. Awesome place, nice location but the people here need better training because it wasn’t just her. They don’t seem to like their jobs or even working here. I’ll be going to the other locations from now on. The food is still amazing though!
