I love the food there! Especially the cold noodles!
Great nengmyun and better value/taste than BCD
Excellent service and food is always awesome.
This place is the best for Korean authentic food
Great quality food & memories of over 30 years...
Service is great. Food is tasty!! ^^
Amazing Korean. Best I've had. So many sides!
This place serves very good fish soup.
Cold noodles are delicious. Both types.
Delicious, quality food and great service.
best kimchi jjigae ive had so far
Pricey but authentic Korean dishes
Best meat in kt black juccy angus
Been coming here for many years. Happy with the service and food every time. Service is top notch. Definitely recommend
Great service! We were driving by and a friend was about to explode (#2) and they let him use their facilities. We'll try their BBQ next time!
Loved the service and the clod noodles were delicious! Also enjoyed ban Chan.
I have been here like 10 times and it is a good place to eat. the cold noodles go well with kalbi.
Our go to Korean spot. Always reliable. Food is consistent and service is great.
That's the only restaurant stays consistent with the quality of meat and side dishes. I highly recommend this place so far.
Very chill korean restaurant. Not trendy but old timers go here so you know food is good.
My (Korean) father in law's favorite bbq restaurant. The food is always very good and the staff are super attentive.
Good quality Korean Bbq and traditional dishes that tastes as they should. Not cheap because quality doesn't come cheap.
Food is very good and tasty. All staff are very nice
Their prime rib-eye steak is always the best. Yummy
Such a great place! Quality meats and great service!
Authentic Korean BBQ great service with high quality meat options
I went to CheongGiWa with my family of four and ordered raw sirloin, raw galbi, and cold noodles. Ssam vegetables and various Korean side dishes were served as basic, and all the food we ordered was delicious. Both the owner and the staff were kind, and the atmosphere was bright and good because it was remodeled.
This place has been around for a long time. Food is still amazing here. We did the galbi and kotssal and had additional small naengmyun. All very delicious.
I used to eat here for lunch at least once a week with my several co-workers and we loved it. Then due to our office relocation and other events, I have stopped coming until several days ago after more than 8 years, and the foods here are still outstanding as well as the services. Definitely will come back more often going forward with my family.
A very traditional and unbelievably delicious Korean restaurant. Menu is diverse and while it is expensive, especially since pandemic began, there are no regrets here. My 80+ yo Korean parents and 70+ yo in laws love it so much. Savor it, actually. This restaurant will always be in our rotation of LA Ktown restaurants.
Nice old timey Korean bbq. Menu is focused on quality meats. All sides were delicious. The ribeye was generous portion and enough for two people.
One of the best Korean restaurants in L.A., K-Town. Service was very good and the food was AMAZING!!! Highly recommend if you want to experience Korean table-top BBQ in L.A. This restaurant is now my "Go To" place when visiting L.A. Reservations are probably a good idea during peak lunch and dinner times if you want to avoid waiting and being tortured by the aroma of the BBQ being grilled all around you. ;)
No surprise this place has been serving Angelino since 1989- survived LA riot ('92), the Great Recession ('08-'10) and COVID-19. Absolute gem with quality food with no-so-LA price.
Best food in the area !! Can't wait to get back
This is where I have learned the old Korean folks go to eat. So I will go here. And their kalbitang is my #1 in LA. So there’s that too. Enjoy!
Best Korean BBQ in LA! If you have already experienced cooking your own meat at your table, then I'd suggest having them cook it for you before bringing it out. It will be perfectly done and nobody hasto hassle with being the "table chef" and miss out on any of the conversations that your friends might be having. Or try calling ahead and having it ordered to pickup and take it home if you prefer not to smell like delicious BBQ.
Very good food and service. U can have unlimited taste side dishes. The cons are very thight table setting south side of hall. North side hall tables are much better. U must wait in line ...a lot of customers
The spicy fish hot pot is f-ing delicious. 2 serving of this soup is enough to feed a family of 4 easily. Korean steak tartare is well seasoned and fresh but the flavor of meat gets lost in sesame oil.
Very excellent a Korean BBQ restaurant. It is a llke very traditional Korean style BBQ restaurant. They have very great Korean syrle side dishes as grand mother made. I hope you better try it is not a like traditional restaurants. It llike one of conservative restaurant.
Excellent old school Korean restaurant. I went in a party of 3. We skipped the often talked about cold buckwheat noodles and got other items instead. We ordered: Black cod soup (clear soup option); bulgogi short rib, and seafood pancake. Assorted complimentary banchan appetizers were delicious and plentiful. Free water and barley tea on request. Very good service. Note: requires a minimum of 2 people; in order to use the tableside grill, everyone must order a dish to grill, otherwise if it's just one order, as in our case with the choice cut galbi beef, it will be cooked in the kitchen and brought out on a sizzling platter (same as the majority of KBBQ places).
Best Naeng Myeon(cold noodle) & Galbi(rib) combo in Ktown. Seems taken over by a new owner(as 10/2025). Min Yeo Mae-Un-Tang (Sea croaker spicy stew) is a must-try in this restaurant.
Chung Ki Wa in Koreatown is truly one of the OG Korean BBQ spots in Los Angeles, and it shows in every detail. This is not an all-you-can-eat spot like the majority of the restaurants , it’s about quality, skill, and top-tier service. From the moment we sat down, the experience felt elevated. One of the first things that stood out was the beautiful natural wood tables, shaped like sliced tree trunks — such a unique and intentional touch that sets the tone for the entire meal. The food presentation was on point, and the service was outstanding. The staff took care of everything cooking, cutting, and even serving making us feel genuinely taken care of throughout the meal. The food was absolutely delicious, but the standout for us was the Black Angus short rib beef. It was hands down the most expensive cut we tried and completely worth it rich, tender, and full of flavor. Every dish we had contributed to an amazing experience, and our whole family loved it. We left full, happy, and impressed, feeling like we experienced something special. Chung Ki Wa truly stands out for its taste, style, and service. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Korean BBQ done right.
The ownership of Chung Gi Wa BBQ in Los Angeles has changed, and it truly shows in a positive way. Rather than offering all-you-can-eat BBQ, they focus on quality, with the owner personally grilling and slicing the meat at the table. The overall experience feels elevated, and honestly, it now feels even better than Suwon Galbi. I hope they continue to maintain this level of quality, and I sincerely wish them great success.
Update 10/22/23 Still great food, service and deals. Went with combo C again, but brought my mom for help. We did much better on the food, but still had leftovers so I think it can feed four avg appetites. We did order the small cold noodle again, but still stick by my assessment cause we didn't really eat that much rice. They offer the stone pot rice too! Anyway, service was even better this time it seems because they refilled our banchan quickly and without even asking. Great bang for your buck at KBBQ with the quality of meat , banchan and service from a higher end place. Parking tip: there was a valet on a Wed evening which surprised us, but for $3, very convenient as their parking is limited and service was great! ——— Amazing! Only regret is that I haven’t tried them sooner. After an under whelming experience at Quarters last month, we were more than pleasantly surprised with our experience at Chung Ki Wa. The combo C was perfect combinations of all of our favorites and while the cost was comparable to Quarters, the portion and quality was head and shoulders above. Could easily feed four “avg” adults. Service was top notch as well and again, head and shoulders above. Yes, they did cook the meat for us!!! Ditto for the banchan and love the fact they had a small portion of their cold noodles to try and super refreshing on a hot summer evening. Add the fact that there was free street and lot parking and barley tea, I see no reason to go anywhere else when craving Korean food while in LA. Be back soon!
Chung Ki Wa isn’t just a meal — it’s a piece of LA Koreatown history🇰🇷🫶🏼 Ranked #3 on Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in LA, this iconic spot has been serving traditional Korean cuisine since 1989, with deep respect for Korean culture and an uncompromising focus on quality. They specialize in certified Black Angus beef BBQ, cooked on a stone grill that holds heat beautifully and cooks the meat evenly — no flare-ups, just perfectly controlled char. The Black Angus marinated short ribs are a standout, grilled tableside by the servers to tender, smoky perfection. Beyond BBQ, don’t skip the classics. The braised black cod comes rich and buttery, paired with comforting stone pot rice that crisps at the bottom just right. And their cold buckwheat noodles — a longtime bestseller — are refreshing, chewy, and deeply satisfying, especially alongside grilled meats. This is the kind of place that reminds you why traditional spots last decades: consistency, care, and flavors that never chase trends — they set the standard.
The food here, from the banchan to the main dishes, is delicious and of really good quality! • Banchan: Very diverse, they even serve fried fish with egg batter, which I’ve never seen elsewhere. • LA Galbi: The meat was tender, not chewy, and the marinade was excellent. • Cold Noodle: Normally I’m not a fan of cold noodles, but this one was actually quite good (I ordered it because my husband wanted to try). • Grilled Fish: Pretty standard, but I loved that it came with 누룽지 (crispy rice soup). The fresh, crunchy vegetables on the side were also impressive! The atmosphere is great, big, clean, and it really feels like dining in Korea. The staff are older but super kind and attentive, always making sure our banchan was refilled
We visited the restaurant on Saturday to celebrate a senior family member's birthday and ordered Combo B. Personally, I wasn’t too fond of the brisket, but the fresh sirloin, short ribs, and premium ribeye were absolutely delicious. The two staff members who assisted us were also incredibly kind and attentive, which made the experience even better. Combo B was quite a generous portion for three people we couldn’t finish the pork belly, but we managed to eat everything else. The doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) was flavorful, and the stone pot rice was a lovely touch. The scorched rice (nurungji) formed at the bottom of the pot was out of this world a real hidden gem.
Great traditional Korean BBQ place! They’ve been around since 1989. Ask for Alison! She’s a great person and a great and caring server. Thank you very much Alison!
Cheonggyehwa in LA’s Koreatown stands out for one simple reason — it serves real, heartfelt Korean food without the hype. Among all the dishes, their eundaegu jorim (braised black cod) is a must-try. The fish is perfectly cooked — tender, buttery, and soaked in a deep, flavorful soy-based sauce with just the right amount of spice. Paired with soft radish and rice, every bite feels like a warm, home-cooked memory. While many restaurants in K-Town lean toward trendy or fusion dishes, Cheonggyehwa focuses on authenticity. The side dishes are always fresh and plentiful, and the staff treat you like family — attentive but never pushy. There’s a comforting, unpretentious vibe here that’s getting harder to find these days. If you’re looking for a place that captures the soul of Korean home cooking, Cheonggyehwa delivers — especially with that unforgettable eundaegu jorim.
Best outdoor dining setup during covid times! Many other restaurants set up giant enclosed tents that might as well be indoor dining. Chung Kiwa sets up individually divided tents, widely spaced apart, with big openings for ventilation. They also deliver the full KBBQ experience - portable grills on your tables expertly manned by the servers. Tons of delicious banchan, top quality meats, reasonable prices, and above all, worry-free dining.
A great traditional Korean restaurant, great for small groups, great portions, very delicious food. Selections of quality Angus beef, among other dishes like cold noodles, soups, and drinks. Good service! Mostly korean customers go there. I was referred by a korean friend.
You know what I like about this place? The fact you can hear old Korean ahjushis swearing to each other. That’s when you know you’ve come to a legit, locally loved restaurant. The banchan here are all on point and their 우거지 갈비탕 was bomb. Def wanna come back to try their meats.
This is our favorite K-BBQ and the staff are so friendly and make us feel like we are at home! The food is really high quality and delicious!
Very very high quality meat. You can tell with the thickness and cut. Lots of side dishes and great service

One of my new fav for Korean BBQ and for their spicy seafood soup (민어탕)! My family used to go to Chosun Galbi but we now prefer Chung Kiwa. Their base side dishes taste better, and the service is top notch. Highly recommended
Its one of the historic Korean restaurants in K-Town Los Angeles, and it's slightly change inside and their menus since the new owner took over recently. It's fancy but worthy if you want fine and quality bbq and various Korean foods. Recommend.

Great Korean BBQ. Excellent quality of meats
Kindly staffs. Korean food. Need more cleaning store
easy parking, nice serving and quality foods.
Good food.. original Korean cold noodle
Good food. Sometimes parking is a challenge.
This place is just great been going to this place since I was a youngling and even now it is still great. Great to have a grill in-front of you with the meat, chicken or pork and even a great soup.
The OG Korean restuarant serving delish Korean BBQ and other traditional Korean dishes. Their naengmyun and bibim-naengmyun is very good to complement some meat. Must have if you have not tried yet.
Old school. Always good. Naeng Myeon on point and get that brisket with deckle. Poor waitresses are understaffed but who cares. To wait for good food is nothing.
Had saeggimi nengmyun and chilg neng myun with Angus ggotsal. It was very delicious and lot of noodles. Service was bit ding once it got crowded.
Food is good. However, on a hot day, the air conditioner did not work properly, but I was annoyed when I sweated..
Great tasting BBQ; clean restaurant. Service could better; parking difficult
Great food, especially the fresh made noodle dishes.
Good korean bbq place. It's. Mostly popular among the older crowds.
Creat food, typical rustic/basic decoration, OK prices.
Do not go for the BBQ. It was absolutely over priced for the quality of meat they provide, 2 star for that. However, there spicy fish soup was surprisingly good, 5 stars easy. If you are looking for a nice korean 매운탕, I would totally recommend this place
One of the best Korean restaurants in K-town for so many years. If you are in the mood for a good quality and tasty BBQ and cold and spicy noodle, this is a place that won't let you down. ⁷
Qualifier here -- I'm not Korean but my wife and in-laws are. How else would I find this place? They have a lot of different korean food here, but I had the naengmyeon, which was perfect for the 90+ degree weather on a hot Saturday afternoon. I also ordered some kalbi with it. I finished half of the noodles at most. The naengmyeon portions are so freaking huge. I almost forgot, they give you a variety of panchan was all pretty delicious. In my book it's top quality. Next time I want to try the bimimbap. Finally they have a small parking lot, but you can usually find parking in the residential areas if you circle the block.
A long-standing Korean BBQ restaurant that appears to have changed ownership over a year ago. The meat quality and portions are generous, and the side dishes are decent. The setup is well done, with spacious tables, though the interior feels very old-school. A comfortable place I’d likely return to.
This place has been in business for along time! And hasn’t really changed in appearance at all, the only thing that has changed are the prices and let me tell you its went up alot. The food is still good but pricey, the service was good and the ladies wer nice. Til next time and i hope the prices dont go up again.
Above average traditional Korean. Not AYCE. Kalbi combo w Cold noodles. Kalbi was a 3/5, good but nothing special. Cold noodles seems everyone was getting this and it certainly hit the spot given it was 95 outside. 4/5. A bit on the pricey side especially with the meats but overall good experience. Service was better than average.
New management. Good meat quality and and price for the amount of food.

Good placr for cold noodles, they are also known for good beef. However my visit on Saturday was mediocre service was great but the food was so-so. Maybe better next time.
Nice service but food were not that great especially Steamed pork with fresh Oyster(굴보쌈)... I don't recommend actually...
Good taste for all foods but pricy for the amount.
Decent quality high prices ok condiments slow service
We had cold noodles and some meat combos for lunch. Noodles seems be cooked sometime or was overcooked and was like noodle cake. Noodles weren't separateingin cold broth so I just eate them. It was just after 1 pm.amd don't see any customers but 2 table including us. This was great place for decades but quality was lost during sometime.
I have been going there for about 30 years. Always good food and service. I would give it a 3 star but on our last trip, it was bad. So, for now a 2 star. Hope, after another trip, I can give 3 star.
Family went to eat here for dinner today. Food and service were good. Beef brisket was a bit dry but the other steak meats were amazing. Side dishes were plentiful. Overall satisfied. However, my rating is low only due to what happened as we were leaving. Upon leaving, we asked the valet if he could move a car that was blocking our car from leaving the lot. He replied with a snarky “can you say please” and gave us attitude. All of us were confused as to what was happening. I asked him if everything is okay and he responded with “is everything okay with you?” We felt very disrespected, especially having just had a family dinner. He gave us dirty looks and his energy was way off. I wouldn’t visit again if I saw the same valet guy there. It didn’t feel safe. Terrible feeling to leave a restaurant after a good meal. Please advise 🙏

To me, this place is the worst Korean restaurant in LA Korean town I have ever been.
Bad service. Food was dry and not tasty.
Over priced Korean Trash. Waitresses threw a chair at my brother and injured him and didn’t even apologize! Water tasted like sewage. Don’t come here unless if you want to be treated like garbage.
Ordered pork belly delivery which cost 27.99 on Ubereats. It came with 5 pieces of meat. Something is wrong when one piece of meat that you can eat it in a bite costs roughly 6 dollars each... lol
The food was ok. Not great and the prices are alittle high.
I want to be fair about this bad review. We ordered off a postmates and the full description of the seafood stew was was very incomplete and did not let us know that there would be beef animal parts. As pescatarians, obviously this would not work for us. When I tried to call the restaurant and explain that we did not know because there was no description that it contained a beef parts, They basically argued with me and told us to take a hike ... In a nice, but unmistakable way. Even removing the mistake of not knowing there is beef in it, it smelled horrible! The seafood was not fresh at all and everything in there was very fishy! We will never eat here again!
Hey folks This place is just no go place Dirty low quality and unkindness Just wast of money and time. As a master chef , this kinda restaurant has to be disappeared in Ktown… So many Korea BBQ restaurants but I picked only one!! Please check my review.
