It was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it was so delicious.

An incredible taste of Eastern Africa with the wildly beautiful, incredibly flavorful cuisine, delivered with a smile, a hug and greetings from all in the restaurant. It’s widely spacious, and has a mix of western decor with modern lighting, and metallic divisions between a fully stocked bar, and the booths, tables and stand-alone seating of the restaurant. The staff were extremely pleasant and gave off more of a family with an air for care and attention to detail. The owner herself took our order and was extremely patient with her explanations, card and choosing what was best for us. We ended up having Kitfu, a slightly lemon flavored seasoned raw meat, beef tips which was served with sauce and veggies and was unbelievably tender, the cooked cabbage, and then a side of collared greens…that were heavenly all spread out on the plated anjera bread, and serve with an abundance of anjera. Anjera is a type of fluffy bread, that’s used to eat the food with. Cutlery is optional and I definitely recommend just digging in. It’s a lot of food and tells price was perfect. The beer was cold but the feeling? Warm. I cannot wait to go again. A definite must do, in Dallas, Texas. Instagram: @destarestaurantdallas “Desta Dallas” — Personal IG: @yara.chan — Strapping into

Watching first 48 and in this episode the lovely couple who came here from Ethiopia and opened this restaurant was brutally murdered. The wife was sooooo beautiful. I felt so sad that I googled the story and I see the family kept the legacy alive and Kept the restaurant open. I’m so happy for the family and I’m sending my condolences🤍 continue keeping their legacy alive through food and culture !

We always love coming here. The wait staff is super nice, but not in the "over-do" it southern kinda way. They do kindness their own way and it is super welcoming. I was reading through some of their 1 star reviews, and I just find it difficult to see some of those issues occuring. I've been coming here for about 4 years now, and they have always treated people with respect & kindness. The atmosphere in the room is also extremely calming. If you're expecting fast food level of speed, you're in the wrong place (and your expectations are wrong). This is family style, take a breath, hang out, enjoy time with your family & friends, and eat delicious food.

The food is AMAZING here!!! The best I’ve ever had! And it doesn’t stop there! I just had to start with that because that what’s important to note! This place has such a beautiful decor. It’s aesthetically pleasing and very clean! Coming here first is the best decision whenever I come to Dallas— it sets the tone for the rest of the trip! To top it all off, the people here are so kind and loving! It makes our experience much meaningful! EVERYTHING HERE 10/10!!!

This is our favorite restaurant in Dallas and we routinely drive the 20 minutes across town to eat there on a Saturday night . The food is so delicious and well prepared, (and Ethiopian food is not overly spicy like Indian food can be), the portions are generous, the service good, and the prices very reasonable. They have recently made lovely upgrades to the decor with new tables and chairs and lighting. It is always busy on Saturday nights (when we like to go) and predominantly frequented by Ethiopians (with some of us "westerners" mixed in ) so you know the food is authentic! The waitstaff and owner are just wonderful, warm people and we highly recommend Desta for a unique dining experience (if you are not familiar with Ethiopian food)!

Really solid and super flavorful Ethiopian food. Have been several times and this is one of the most reliable choices for Ethiopian food in dfw. Service can sometimes be slow and/or indifferent but never unkind. The food more than makes up for it!

If you're looking for a dinner that's an event, look no further. Desta delivers not just amazing food, but a truly memorable way to enjoy it. The communal platter encourages conversation and sharing, breaking down the usual formalities of dining. The injera is a unique and delicious bread you use to scoop up mouthfuls of spiced lentils, savory meats, and fresh salads. We loved the Key Wat (beef stew) and the Timatim Salata (tomberry salad) for a cool contrast. The coffee ceremony is also a beautiful traditional touch if you have time. A fantastic spot for groups and anyone wanting to try something new and delightful

A must try! Desta Ethiopian has been around for a long time. Excellent food and service! The lamb tips were absolutely delicious. They have the best unsweet Tea! Hints of cinnamon and cloves. Very good!

Went there to eat after a friend's baptism had the party room next door. .it held about 35 people food was great not accustom to Ethiopian food and the bread but it was great its like soul food but just cooked differently . . But coffee is amazing not a huge coffee drinker at all. . But their black coffee straight or a splash of milk in the tiny cups was great after a meal. Service is amazing theyre really good at what they do. Definitely recommend. Party room holds about 40-45 people maxish

I’ve been a fan of Desta for years, and they never disappoint. The food is packed with flavor (something that’s hard to find at many restaurants). The staff is always warm and welcoming, though service can be a little on the slower side. My go-to is the Veggie Combo platter. It's delicious and generously portioned. I also love that it’s a family-owned spot with character, not just another cookie-cutter chain. Definitely worth supporting!

My favorite place to eat authentic Habesha food. Authentic dishes. A great place to dine with family and/or friends. Learn the culture and enjoy some great food. Love this place. Sam was the best.

I've gone to this location in Decatur twice and neither times have i been disappointed! I had never had Ethiopian food and this place is a great introduction to their cuisine! My friends and i enjoy sharing plates so on two different occasions we ordered the Tibs (ground beef, potato stew, Gomes, and bits bread), kitfo salmon, Sambusa (w/ Lentil), & baklava for desert. To drink we got the Mead an the Sheba Tej. I will say, I don't think Mead is for me... but everyone has different tastes. They have ample seating for both outdoor and indoor. The serves and fast, responsive, and knowledgeable of the menu. Great place for an intimate meal. So far l've been recommending anyone who is interested or looking for Ethiopian food to check this place out!

I got my Ethiopian food fix today thanks to my awesome hubby! We found this place years ago and every once in a while, I just get such a craving for their vegetarian platter. He tried a new beef dish today and said that he really liked it as well. If you are in the area, I highly suggest you go try their food. Not only is the staff super friendly and very informative but the place is super clean too. Which makes it even more enjoyable to be there.

This is hands down the best Ethiopian food in Dallas! The restaurant has a bright, inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a meal. The macchiato is rich, aromatic, and absolutely delicious. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly, making you feel right at home. The food is authentically prepared, with the injera being a standout—fresh, flavorful, and perfect for every dish.

First time visiting the restaurant, and the food experience was mind-blowing! We loved everything we ordered. However, we really didn't like the service we received. We ordered one combo from the menu for 3-4 people (we had 4) and two appetizers. The waitress said we were still not ordering enough for four. But when the food was served, it was way more than we could eat. But that's fine. We ordered a tea at first, and she forgot, but that's fine too. What wasn't fine and pissed us off a little was when we had ordered a special tin coffee before the food was served and told her we wanted the coffee served after the food. After we finished everything and asked for the coffee, she told us we had to wait 20 minutes for the coffee to be prepared which hasn't started. My husband usually tips big, but I told him just to tip average because this was bad service.

This is a food only review, as it was delivered via Uber. I have ordered from Desta before, and always go for the Tibs. An order comes with a lot of injera, which you'll want, so you can soak up all the amazing juices. The flavour and the heat on the awaze is just right for me. I also got a couple of samosas, also awaze, and they're just right, too. I am appreciative of the time it takes to make this food, so I can't complain too much about the pricing, but a single serve is over $20, and the portions aren't enormous, other than the injera, of course!!

Oh, where do I start with Desta Ethiopian Kitchen in Dallas? This gem is a must-visit for anyone craving bold, authentic Ethiopian flavors that dance on your taste buds! The lamb ribs were an absolute showstopper—juicy, tender, and packed with rich, savory goodness that had me savoring every bite. And let’s talk about the Goden ribs—fall-off-the-bone perfection with a spice blend that’s both soul-warming and electrifying. The injera bread? Soft, spongy, and the ideal canvas for scooping up the mouthwatering miser lentils, which were a delightful mix of earthy, spicy, and downright addictive. Every dish felt like a love letter to Ethiopian cuisine, served with warmth and care. The vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff only made the experience even more unforgettable. If you’re in Dallas, run—don’t walk—to Desta for a meal that’ll leave you hungry for more!!! BB was super awesome on the margaritas…..yep so refreshing!

Chose to try this restaurant per the reviews & I must say my experience was quite the opposite. My visit was earlier in the day roughly an hour past opening around noon if I had to guestimate. After chosing to sit at a high table in bar area it was 15 minutes before my order was taken, another 15 minutes to receive my single order of lentil sambusa then 5 min later my vege entree arrived. The wait & the lack of care/concern from the staff altered my appetite & desire to remain. I quickly consumed a couple choices from the platter then paid my chk & left.

This was the worst Habesha food experience I’ve had. We ordered kitfo and waited almost one hour and thirty minutes. When it finally arrived, I was really disappointed. I honestly didn’t expect this from Desta they used to be my favorite. This is now my third bad experience. The second time, I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they used to be perfect. But this time, it was unacceptable. How could you serve this as kitfo? You just gave me raw meat without any kitfo seasoning at all. This is not what kitfo is supposed to be. If you respect your customers, you don’t serve food like this and still call it kitfo. If this keeps happening, I will not be coming back again.

Food took a while, but that’s to be expected for freshly cooked food, so I thought. The injera was cold. The entire meal was lukewarm. The veggies and lentils had no flavor, none of the traditional Ethiopian flavors or spices very bland. Beef tibs were tough, chewed and spit out most of the meat, it was so tough. Overall a waste of money. I’ve had amazing Ethiopian food and this was awful.
