Opinions de Sunflower Garden Martinez
I've been going to Sunflower Garden since 1991 at their older location. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the world! The food is always hot and fresh, the restaurant is clean, and the staff are very attentive to the customers' needs. I highly recommend this location!
Food is Amazing, customer service is amazing! Terry is awesome!
My wife and me had lunch there today and were very satisfied with all the food, service and atmosphere. Ordered a beer, and it came with a cooled glass - a nice addon a man can have. Keep it up and I wish many business owners of restaurants follow this pattern.
Terrific food, friendly and attentive staff. This is our go to Chinese restaurant in downtown Martinez. We always try new items when we go(except Pepper steak that is a must get for us) and have never been disappointed by a new selection. It is a little bit more expensive then other Chinese places in the area but well worth it both for the food and atmosphere.
Amazing service, the food is ALWAYS delicious and you get so much of it. Family style dishes. We live in the area and try to order at least once a month.
Really enjoy their food. Have been eating here for sometime, after we lost our go to Chinese food restaurant ( Benicia-Vallejo area), to Covid closure. Today’s dinner was no exception, as the food was spot on!
UPDATE on 08/08/24 I ordered my usual $70 worth food last night and i was so disappointed because the chicken was hard and dry. It was the best but not so sure now... 1st review...The BEST chinese food around! I come from Bay Point because there is nothing better than this place. I haven't gotten anything bad at this place, it is always fresh. I like that they use white meat chicken when most of the other places use pieces of fatty gristley so cold chicken in their dishes. You wont be disappointed!
Honestly AMAZING. The best Wor Won Ton soup I've ever had. My husband loved the egg rolls, Kung Pow tofu, and rice. I had to try, and they were delicious as well. We will certainly be eating here again. Highly recommend!
We were on a stopover for Amtrak and needed somewhere to get a nice meal before our 20 hour train. Customer service was amazing. The food came out quickly and tasted amazing. We had the Wor Wonton Soup and Honey Walnut Prawns with a side of rice. We ate everything as quickly as we could but still wanted more. They were still very accommodating even though we did see that they were in the process of closing. Would stop by again!!!
Excellent, high-quality, flavorful dishes. Front room is particularly beautiful with a warm comment welcoming bar atmosphere. Servers and owners are very friendly and helpful. An exceptional dining experience and little Martinez.
When in Martinez I will always get something from Sunflower Garden. They identify the items that they can do without MSG! I am really appreciative of this. Their service is quick and the food is fabulous
We ate there for the 1st time today. The food is absolutely amazing. This will be our new go to for excellent Chinese food
Talk about authentic Chinese food! Having grown up with a Chinese step-father, I am very picky about my Chinese food. Most of the restaurants around here are more Americanized Chinese. Sunflower Garden serves more traditional food and if there is something you want that is not on the menu, the owner, Sandy will make it for you. Their food doesn't have MSG. It is fresh, flavorful and filling. We love eating here because it means we don't have to go to Chinatown in Oakland of SF. It is worth the trip to Martinez!
We didn't get pics but our family of 5 just had the greatest meal!! So good, hot, fresh, fast, great service. This is our newest favorite place!
My family’s favorite Chinese restaurant, they even hosted my wedding rehearsal dinner when I got married. They have plenty of seating and are very accommodating of groups of different sizes. A great lunch menu, make sure you try the Honey Walnut Prawns.
I was super hungry and most places were closed, so glad I stopped here. Got the Kung Pao with rice and it was really good. 👍🏻
I stopped by during a transfer at Martinez Station. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant and the friendly service. The BBQ pork fried noodles and wonton soup were also delicious, and I'll definitely visit again if I have the chance.
was searching for ages on the road for some good Chinese food until I stumbled upon this place! there was amazing service and the food came faster than any fast food ! the food was really good and showed up nice and hot. highly recommend !!
2nd time getting take out & it did not disappoint. The potstickers are massive & made from scratch. Sesame chicken is SO crunchy & not heavy. Hubby loves the chowmein. A bit higher priced then some other options nearby but it’s a lot of food & worthy of the higher price.
Just a passenger traveling through the train station, I came upon this restaurant a very short walk away. I ordered a vegetarian chow mein lunch special, which was very fairly portioned and came with a spring roll to boot. Best noodles I’ve had in a long time, thick and chewy with strong overtones of garlic - and quite filling. The hostess was very kind and went out of her way to get me some additional soy sauce packets. The food came out promptly and hot with everything I needed for a meal to go. I am not familiar with Martinez California but I will remember this city has one awesome Chinese restaurant close to the train station! 👍🏻👍🏻
Delightfully impressed! This place is amazing for the lunch special.. great amount of food and the taste?? Delicious! Some of the freshest eggrolls I've had in a while. The people that work here are amazing too...super polite and helful.. overall a great 1st impression for us. Will visit again when in town for sure. *pictured are 2 sets of lunch special entre (Not including the eggroll and soup that comes with the meal) , big portions but not exaggerated either, just perfect * hunan beef and Kung pao chicken.
This is the best Chinese restaurant my husband & I have ever been to! The food is outstanding & service was friendly even at the end of their day. It was also just a short couple blocks to walk from the Amtrak station during our layover. I wish they were in MY town!

I found my new favorite Chinese restaurant. Wanted to go somewhere where I have never been on Saturday night. Saw Sunflower Garden Restaurant on the internet, love downtown Martinez, so decided to go. The atmosphere was very inviting; was clean, docorated nicely, just all around pleasant. Was welcomed in and seated promptly. Ordered Dinner D for two. Every item ordered had great flavor and a nice presentation and a good amount of food. Waiter was very attentive and delightful. Excellent all around.
My husband and I stopped for dinner, and it was really delicious!! There's a lot of choices if you don't eat meat, and the sushi and sashimi offerings were great. We only saw a few gentlemen who were working, but they all were very hard working and very nice. It's obvious that they care about the customers who come in and they care about the restaurant, it's cleanliness and the dishes that are prepared. I definitely would like to visit again next time we're in Martinez!
Delicious food!!! Cozy vibes too. They let me stay and take a small power nap and draw on my ipad during my stay in town with Amtrak 🩷 tysm again for the crab rangoons, I miss them dearly
Absolutely the best Chinese takeout I've had in a looooooong time. You can't go wrong here y'all
Our new go to downtown. Excellent food. Always tasty and always fresh. Now they have dim sum and we tried it tonight. Delicious!! Friendly staff and consistently good. Love this place.
We just had a birthday party of 7 with a baby, we are all foodies. No reservations needed for this outstanding restaurant. We all ordered something different and tried everything we ordered was fantastic in flavor and served fresh and hot. The service was fast and friendly, they work very hard to bring the food quick. I highly recommend this restaurant as an excellent value.

Great friendly crew. Love how they listen to every customers feedback... also... pretty sure I found my menu favorite today, after exploring their menu, the "Yu Sheng Chicken" is absolutely fantastic... I didnt even know what it was, because I'm so used to corporate lead ideas of Chinese food... HIGHLY recommend trying this... and so far, since they've opened... all menu items are great, so you will enjoy!

Sunflower garden has been a family local spot for years in Martinez. Under new ownership recently. Still pretty great food. Sandy sold all the menu recipes with the business.
Really loved the walnut prawns and the sweet and sour chicken. Both came out crispy like it's suppose to be compared to other places I've been to. Didn't give 5 stars because we called ahead of time and was given a time it would be ready. Upon being seated and told the waitress we called ahead, had to wait additional 15 minutes for the food to come out.
The food was mid, nothing to rave about but it wasn't bad. I was surprised that if you order a plate of sweat & sour chicken or any other that it doesn't come with any side of rice, broccoli or anything. Just the protein. I ended up ordering the pork chowmein which was ok. The food was brought to us very quick though and hot which was impressive.

The General Chicken 左宗雞 had several stand-out qualities. First, the sauce used to stir-fry the chicken was rich, flavorful, and balanced—both tangy and sweet with just the right amount of heat. The portion size was generous, with plenty of chicken to go around, which I appreciated. Another plus was the way the broccoli was incorporated. There weren't too many pieces, and they were the same size as the chicken, making it easy and pleasant to eat together. That said, the chicken lost its crispiness due to the steam inside the takeout container. By the time I dug in, the once-crispy coating had become soft and was falling off the chicken, which was a bit of a letdown. I also ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice 蝦炒飯 , and while the flavor was absolutely fantastic, I did encounter a minor issue with the shrimp. A couple of them still had their digestive tracts intact, which I had to remove before eating. Although it's a small detail, it detracted from the otherwise great experience.

Got food to go. Basic stuff: shrimp chow mein, beef with vegetables, sweet & sour pork. Odd flavor to the food, not sure what it was. Bitter taste tho. Maybe six pieces of shrimp. Talk about disappointing. Beef was good but veg variety was underwhelming and included no mushrooms or bamboo shoots. Nothing surprising with the pork or sauce. Will not be a repeat customer.
I’ve been coming here for 20 years. Moved to Sacramento a few years ago and was in Martinez today so stopped by. I could tell immediately something was different. Found out it’s under new ownership and IT IS NOT THE SAME. It’s ok Chinese food if you don’t know what it was like before. The new owners should not have messed with the recipes. Sad. Probably won’t be back
Just not great. Hot and sour soup tasted old. Potsticker dough was like 1/4 inch thick resulting in gummy, undercooked outside. Chow mein under-seasoned. Just disappointed after reading so many positive reviews.
It is pretty good for the money but there's so many vegetables and little meat in dinners. One of the orders were wrong and saw when we got home unfortunately. And ordered egg rolls instead got spring roll. First time so we didn't know. Was pretty quick
So sad. We have been going to sunflower since it was even in the old location. Went today and it was bot good. Empty. Food was awful. Service was soso. Bowl was dirty. This place needs a deep clean so bad. So sad. At thier current rate the new owners are going to run it to the ground.
Perhaps it was just a bad night, but my husband and I didn't find the food particularly good. This is a review for a takeout order! So, I'm sure that changes things. We ordered four dishes, and the salt and pepper fish was really good. The others, especially the chow mein, didn't have much flavor. The fried fish and chicken had lost all their crunch by the time they got home. Worst of all, the saucy General Tso chicken got EVERYWHERE in the bag. It was at the bottom and I think it just got squished with all the other boxes on top. Sorting it out was really messy.
This use to be my favorite place and the only place I would buy Chinese food. I got an order to go today and I love hot & sour soup and when I got home, found it was so bland & it was so thick it almost looked like jelly! Definitely not SOUP! The rest of the food was ok but Definitely not what it was before. I couldn't eat the soup so $15 down the drain. Really disappointed. If you want ok food, then this place will work. But other then that $75 and it what blah! So expensive and not great.
Sushi was nothing special. California rolls were mushy. I've had much better elsewhere. The service was slow and got order wrong. We waited a good 10 minutes before our drink orders were taken. At least it's nice and quiet
Way overrated, 4.6? Crazy google reviewers. Bland, stale food, rubbery chicken. Fried rice was old, no magic in that wok either. Solid pass.

The stff are friendly but the food was not good. The food was bland, oily, and a few dishes were terribly sweet. Also the rice was soggy which is a total dealbreaker for a Chinese restaurant as far as I’m concerned. The only OK item was the Chow Mein. I’ve eaten at a lot of Chinese restaurants in the East Bay and this one did not live up to my expectations. I ordered enough to eat the next day but left most uneaten because I couldn’t stomach eating it again.
I used to LOVE this place. We just got takeout and it’s not the same. New owners changed the recipes. Def tastes lower quality than before
I unfortunately had a very bad experience here. We entered the restaurant and sat down at a table missing appropriate silverware or chopsticks. Service was slow and the staff was clearly overworked and understaffed. The waitress messed up my wife's order and gave her chicken chow mein instead of vegetarian. By itself, this isn't a big deal, but unfortunately they did not offer a replacement or take it off the bill. In fact, when we politely informed the waitress, she quickly ran away and avoided us for the rest of the meal, even when we tried to get her attention. We would've been fine taking the chicken chow mein to go and ordering something else, but she didn't even come around to ask what would be best for us! When the bill came, they left the uneaten chicken chow mein on the bill and wouldn't take it off the bill. They also quickly carted away the (completely untouched) meal without asking if we wanted it to go. I felt really angered by this lack of hospitality, and I find it especially concerning that they avoided us for the entire meal. I would not recommend this place to anyone with dietary restrictions, or really just anyone in general if this is how they treat their customers.
Barely anything in my wonton, like they smeared cream cheese and folded it up. You can see through it when you hold it up to the light. No rice, just the main dishes. No silverware, no napkins. So, I guess my to go lunch will be my dinner when I get off (after I cook some rice).
The new owners are running this place into the ground the fried rice is under cooked and slime and the changes to the dishes make the subpar at best. I fear the quality of the sushi AT A CHINESE RESTAURANT
1, Not enough servers waiting on customers. 2. Did not turn the lights on in the place. 3. Food was cold. 4. Did not come back and ask if we wanted another drink. 5. They literally looked confused the whole time we were there watching the Oregon / Utah game. Nice people but please get your act together!!! HIRE MORE PEOPLE AND SERVER THE FOOD HOT! Mongolian Beef and Kung Pow Chicken and fried rice were cold. Fried Rice was AWEFUL!
Ordered online. Funds cleared. Showed up 15 minutes later for the pickup. The restaurant said they didn’t see my order. They also wanted me to reorder. Walked out 60 minutes later, the restaurant called me up saying my order was ready for pick up. New owners have driven this restaurant into the ground.
Ordered the Mongolian beef meat look steamed the sauce was not even sticking to the meat. It was so spicy I could hardly eat it. I love spice but this was nasty. Fried rice had no flavor. It's been a long time since I've eaten here and I will never eat there again.
So I don But I was craving some chow mein. I’m single I ordered a whole entire. Of chicken chow mein, which the portion size was great. It tasted burnt. Tons of chicken tons of noodles obviously but the smoky flavor of it being burned. I don’t know. Obviously it was a 1 o’clock on a Saturday not good. I will not go again.
