Opinions de Country Diner Cafe Mesquite
Looks can be deceiving. The building doesn't look like much but the food is awesome, prices are great and the parking lot is FULL on the weekends! Old people, young people, people of different races, workers, families...this place feels like the community! Country Diner has become our favorite go to place! I can't get past the yummy breakfasts and my husband loves trying all the authentic Mexican dishes. Portion sizes are huge and we always leave stuffed... especially for the price! Highly recommend!
Nice place to enjoy good delicious food for breakfast or dinner. The atmosphere is nice 👌 a lot of families eating together , nice conversations with friends. .
The Mexican food is very authentic. Lots of locals eat there. The portions are quite generous. There is one caviat, though, the first basket of chips is free, they charge for a second basket. This actually quite minor. Try the chicken fried steak. It is filling and good. They serve chips and salsa with that dish too.😜😁
The staff is wonderful. A empty water glass or coffee cup doesn't exist here. They work hard to please. The food is always great. Tex- Mex, hamburger, or chicken fried steak is always wonderful. The restrooms are clean. Be sure to get the biscuits and gravy or their homemade fried potatoes. You will enjoy your visit.
Wow, first time here and what a surprise....had a great meal at a decent price, lots of variety, service was great! Tight fit inside, only about a 10 min wait, but worth the effort. Will be coming back, this could turn out as one of my favs! Even saw my neighbor there and talked to him about it later on at home!
It’s always a happy time at the Country Diner Cafe! I love coming here. The atmosphere is lively. The food is simple but fantastically made, it never disappoints! And of course the staff is polite too.
It was my first time dining in here and loved it. We tried the Menudo and Enchiladas. It was perfect authentic real Hispanic food. Tortillas were hand tossed. The lady who served us, was super nice and we felt very comfortable. Inside the restaurant was very clean as well. Let’s support our local businesses we have the best. Thank you !!
Couldn't find parking at cracker barrel (which I don't care for but needed a place to interview someone) saw this diner and ordered breakfast. Food was delicious, great service and very reasonable prices. Love this place and highly recommend!!!
Psuedo rustic diner with amazing food and affordable prices.
First visit ever for breakfast it was really good...eggs with jalapenos, tomatoes and onions were really tasty, potatoes fresh cooked and beans had nice flavor. My kids had pancakes , eggs and bacon and sausage... definitely a good breakfast spot for Mexican breakfast and american breakfast
This food was the business. When I tell you my daughter and I got full and still had food left over. We order the Dinner Omelet and Beef Fajita Nachos. The omelet was well cooked and filled with 100%pure ingredients. The meal also came with well cooked right amount of crisp hashbrowns and a set of biscuits and gravy to die for. I probably gained an extra 5lbs trying to get a few spoons of everything. My nachos were good too. The chips were crispy and crunchy....not your regular tortilla. They seemed homemade. The toppings were plentiful as well. We will definitely go back. I told my sister that she has to try them out. It's worth the money. I did have to hold back on the drink because one piece of my ice had something black stuck to it. So, it made me think they were scraping from the bottom of the ice bin and it possibly needed to be cleaned and/or refilled. Anyhow, it was my first visit here and I truly enjoyed my meal and so did my daughter. Sorry no pics....too good to stop....;).
Awesome food and friendly staff! Highly recommend!
I hadn't been in years. There's few places yet that I can say are a great deal and still really good home style food. And when your home is Texican.. you're used to both styles. I'll be back
I've been coming her for years. Food is always on point except the menudo. It's got a great taste. However, sometimes meat is still hard (as in needs to cook longer). Half the charm I guess is how small it is and weekends is always a long wait line(15 to 30 mins). I will say the service is good but the waitresses do wear their frustration on their face lol.
Excelent service, friendly people, excelent food, and prices really good, food portions are really good
Very busy. Very tasty. Reasonably priced. Attentive and professional staff. Really glad I stopped by.
Everything delicious 😋 I'm definitely recommending
Eat here all the time!! Love their breakfast!
We come here often! I bring my wife mi kiddos and my parents, and they love it. No complaints about this place so far. 🤓
Hidden gem. Food is delicious and affordable. For breakfast the chicken fried steak is a delicious and you get so much food. Another favorite of mine is the mole. It’s authentic and delicious. I do ask for extra sauce and sometimes they charge me.
Jose is an excellent waiter and the food was excellent... the salsa was a little warm for me but they also offer a milder alternative. My wife had the steak fajita burrito and said it was the best...
Nice little place to enjoy breakfast. I had the Mesquite scrambler and it was delicious. Friendly staff, and the wait for a table wasn't long at all.
The best Migas around. Awesome service.
This is a diamond in the rough. I was quite pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and the excellent service with a very varied menu. The corn tortillas will knock your socks off good. I’m looking forward to venturing back again tomorrow. Today was my first visit and I just dropped in Looking for something to eat that wasn’t chain related. If you’re looking for good food, reasonably priced with a good wait staff, this is your spot. It’s a hidden gem.
This place never disappoints. Anytime you eat alone for breakfast I definitely recommend this place! They're on it with the customer service and always so welcoming 💝
Today was my first time coming here and I must say I was impressed! I ordered the pork chop plates with biscuit and gravy and my husband got the 3 meat omelette with grits and pancakes !! Everything was good !! The customer service was exceptional!!! For the both of us with coffee it was about 25 bucks !!it’s a must try in you are in the area !!!
This is my husband and I second time here. Our first time, I tried the menudo and it was excellent! I am not sure what my husband ordered but it was tasty. I also ordered their biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were homemade and to die for. We took pictures of what we ordered on our first time here. We even ran into some friends of ours on our 2nd time here. Great food at a great price!
The food is always good and their service is good. I enjoy eating there.
Price is unbeatable food was amazing Jenny and Maria were so seeet and nice. I/we will be back!
Great place, reasonable prices, strong mix of traditional American breakfast and diner food and Mexican food. Had the "Mexican Eggs Benedict" this morning... creative chorizo and Chipotle sauce eggs Benedict that was great. They also have Menudo and various more authentically Mexican dishes on the Mexican side of the ledger. Omelets, egg centered dishes, pancakes, waffles, etc on American side. Similar for dinner mix of menu items.
Food is delicious! Service is great! Atmosphere is great! Highly recommend this place. Today was our first time here and we will definitely be coming back!!
It is the best Mexican restaurant in Dallas Deserves the best breakfast tacos there that you can eat besides other food We go there every morning
Our first time eating at this diner. The service is fantastic. From greeting to checking out. Our food was hot and delicious!!!!!!! We will return here !!!
Always good food! Great service and friendly staff! The menu has huge options! Breakfast lunch or dinner! Try it once and you'll be hooked!
After deciding not to wait in line for 70 minutes at a nearby over-rated, over hyped chain restaurant for breakfast, we drove literally around the corner and found this hidden gem! Awesome food, great service. The radio from the kitchen could have been a little quieter, but if that was the only thing wrong here, this place will be my go to for breakfast when I'm in the area over the nearby Cracker Barrel.
RAFAEL is the BEST kindest waiter of my life! BEST STEAK BEANS & CHEESE NACHOS in my life!!! a diamond 💎 in the rough a MUST try for ANYONE in the area! Ask For Rafael for the Best service of your life! and get the steak nachos for the VERY BEST NACHOS 😋🤤of your life!!! I will be Back!!! also its VERY CHEAP and freaking delicious. dont miss this place its worth it 5 stars!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Country Diner Cafe has quickly become our go-to neighborhood café that mixes American and Mexican comfort food in the best way. From the moment we sat down, everything felt warm, easy, and welcoming. The food absolutely delivered. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. The cook even came out to check on us, which made the experience feel personal and welcoming. Here’s everything we ordered: The Chicken Fried Chicken plate, which came with three eggs cooked your way and two sides. We chose hashbrowns and pancakes, and everything hit the spot. The chicken was tender and seasoned well, the hashbrowns were perfectly crispy, and the pancakes were soft and fluffy. The shrimp soup was a standout! It arrived in a big, generous bowl filled with a flavorful broth and plenty of zucchini, potato, and carrots. It came with Mexican rice and bread, plus onions, cilantro, and lime on the side to brighten it up. Comforting, fresh, and super satisfying. We also had the Garden Omelette, which was loaded with onions, tomatoes, green peppers, and mushrooms. It was a nice hearty size, and our sides of hashbrowns and fresh fruit were great additions. We will definitely be back to try more of their dinner plates.
Good breakfast, great prices. You'll leave with your taste buds happy, your stomach full, and your wallet comfortable. Get here early enough to get their scratch made biscuits. They run out quick.
I was tired of fast food so I went for a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit. It was huge and totally delicious. Fast food joints, not even in the same league as country diner and the waitress was super nice thank you the hashbrowns were great too.
We stumbled across this place on Google maps while we were in the area running errands. Best stumble ever! The salsa is the best I ever had, and I asked if they sell it, which they do. The menu is great, the portion sizes are huge, and we will be back again and again! I had the migas, which were great, and my son had a big breakfast platter where everything was cooked perfectly
They have togo boxes but you won't need them if you come hungry! Most tables around us were only empty plates as families left. Our food came out in 20 minutes piping hot and delicious. We ordered the country fried steak, pancakes, and chile reanos, churros, and coffee. All excellent! Highly reccomend churros for breakfast with coffee as a sweet treat, coffee was hot and fresh. My wife and I finished every bite.
This place is so good I had to come back to find something wrong. I failed miserably. I ate here twice 2 different dishes same result. Great food great service and great atsmophere. What really got me was that no matter what table comes open they will seat you if you are next in line. These people want your business. The county fried steak rivals any I have had in my life. The beef enchiladas were great if not the best I have ever had. Check them out. It's worth the trip
My boyfriend and I weren’t sure what we were feeling and decided to give this place a try and it did not disappoint, they had about everything to pick from ranging from breakfast to lunch to dinner and everything was priced super reasonably, they give complimentary chips and salsa which was very delicious, our waitress was super nice and friendly and attended to us pretty often. I got a chicken fried steak breakfast w/ pancakes and a breakfast taco and my boyfriend got a migas plate along with a chicharrón sope on the side all for $33, Which we usually spend a lot more anywhere else for that amount of food, We got a coffee snd sweet tea as well! The place was very welcoming and felt comfortable, We Will definitely be coming back !
Atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a small local diner. The spicy salsa was perfect flavor to heat ratio. Super glad I ordered the small pozole as it was huge and tasty! The tacos were good, and my son's burger was "very good." The serving sizes are big, the food yummy and the staff immensely attentive. Next time, I will try the breakfast.
Lots of delicious options at a very reasonable price. You have to sign yourself in upon arrival in a notebook. There isn't a sign. I stood at the host stand until a passing staff member asked if I had signed myself in. We had good service. It was busy and we had to wait to be seated. It was Sunday so I'm not sure if that's typical. My family and I would go again.
I love it when Mary makes my coffee and she give a good service.
Ordered the country fried steak w/ mashed potatoes and broccoli which was good. Kids ordered burgers and chicken strips w/ fries. Everything was hot, and it didn’t take long for service or our food. Only complaint is that our waiter never came back to refill our drinks, but that’s not enough to keep me from returning. The food was priced well, so it was very affordable to feed a family of 4
The waitress didn't come to the table once I asked for green salsa for the chips she brought a bottle OMG do I dip my chips in the bottle I asked for a salsa bowl and she gave me a look it was unpleasant but she wanted a tip for her service I'm sure I did tip her I just hope she improves her servicing skills
I was at metro Mazda across the street getting maintenance done and saw this place had pretty good reviews and was near by. Took my family out there and have to say it was pretty good. Felt like a home cooked meal. Got the French toast and red chilaquiles plate. The chilaquiles plate had plenty of food, I was not expecting it to for the price (about $10 at the time) that’s why I had ordered French toast. I ate most of both plates and enjoyed it with a Mexican Jarritos drink. My wife had the taco plate. Carne desherbada plate, which was packed with meat. Enough so we could have made another 3 tacos with it. The only thing I didn’t like was the tv was loud showing some talk show but overall if you’re in the area try it out.
Dec 2025 update: Food & service remain the same and their prices are humble. What has changed is the number of customers; The parking lot was full, so I had to park at the dry cleaners next door and there was a 20 minute wait for a table. This place has become very popular. --------- With a name like country diner Cafe you would think American food, but this is a Mexican restaurant that has a few American items on it. This is not your typical Tex-Mex, it really is Tex Mex from the Mexican side of the border. Most of the customers are for Mexico, the salsas are nice and spicy, and the food is very homestyle with large portion sizes. If you get a drink don't expect the server to offer you a refill unless you buy coffee. For some reason they're very good about refilling your coffee cup, but nothing else unless you try to stop the person and asking for a refill. Very casual place, most the customers know the routine and find their own table. All of the standard Mexican items are good, as are the omelets. For those who don't eat Mexican food there is chicken fried steak, hamburgers, and usually one or two other items of the day that are very American.
Economically priced. Very friendly staff. Bacon was a bit too crispy for my taste.
I am always satisfied at Country Diner. This time it was not breakfast. I had albóndigas. Great taste. I did add a little bit of salt, but that’s just me. Since I like my soups spicy I added salsa. The potatoes and carrots were good in the soup, not overcooked. I’m not a big meatball fan but I do eat albóndigas. The meatballs were not holding up well. When I put in the mouth they kinda dissolved, they couldn’t be chewed, but it’s ok. We didn’t get and chips And chicharron with salsa, maybe they stopped giving as complimentary. I did take a little long to get the food but it’s ok. Will definitely keep Coming.
My friends and I heard the menudo was good. BUT…. Make sure your waitress ask you about the additional charge for pozole and pigs feet! We were served without her asking us and our bowl of menudo was $5.00 more than the price on menu. Very upset about them assuming we wanted the additional items!! Sad that we have to ask for details from here on!!
Food was delicious. I loved the taquitos rojos! We will definitely be coming back to try different items on the menu. So many to choose from. The waitress we had barely talked and seem like she didn't want to be there. They need better customer service but other than that this place was good.
The food was awful.. My pancakes were burnt and so were the kids. The hash browns were really soggy and not seasoned. The coffee was awful and also tasted burnt. The only good thing was the salsa they had. The service was also exceptional! They restaurant was cute and had plenty of space
I got food poisoning 2 weeks ago with Grill Sandwich.. 🤢🤮
I'm not rating this too low as maybe their breakfasts and Mexican food are great and I hate putting low ratings on Mom and Pop type places. But I can't recommend their American food, at least not what I had. So bland. I had grilled fish (needed seasoning, though at least it was cooked ok), green beans (canned and bland), and mac n cheese (well overcooked). All just very meh. Service wasn't friendly or unfriendly. Good points were - my soda was huge so I didn't need to worry about trying to get a refill, and I liked that they offered 2 kinds of salsa, one of which was mild and pretty tasty.
Great place to eat. Breakfast was good. One of our party had the pot roast, a generous portion. We will be back. The only negative is that there were a couple of napkins in the service area on the floor that the staff could have easily swept up, but didn't seem to notice. Returned for dinner tonight. The service was awful! Were were seated and order talked promptly. My grandson spilled hot sauce in his drink while we were ordering, and the server didn't offer a fresh one. She never checked on us after the food was served, no refills. I had to get our own to go boxes. I don't know what changed since our first visit. But the service was awful. The bathroom was littered with paper towels on the floor.
Usually it’s a good experience if you can ignore and get around the rudeness and shortness of some of the employees. This place would be perfect if the friendliness went up and you if they made you feel more welcomed. Food is decent for the most part so you won’t mind the food. I just wish they were more friendly.
Heard mom talk about this and was around so took parents to get food. It was a great experience and well served. I did get the chicken and waffle special which was 4 small tenders and a waffle but worth it to me. I tried to get a picture of all but they had started eating so I took of what was still left. Definitely will be coming back and price is very reasonable. UPDATE: They must have changed ownership cause since I wrote the review the customer service and waitress had gone down hill to a 1 star. I us to love to come here and bring my people for a good meal, but will be changing. The food is great but as I mentioned the service has gone down hill and not about to spend my time or money on a place that has poor service. Especially on a day we're it ain't crowded and super slow.
First of all, is a very busy location with little to no waiting area. ( Maybe they should make a nice outdoor patio for a waiting area ) It was about a 20min wait on a sunday morning. Our table was narrow and flimsy, our nice waiter lady was friendly, however we didn't se her much. I believe they are understaffed. My migas were crunchy and delicious, the potatoes a little too salty.
Barely greeted at the door. Didn't know if we were to seat ourselves. We had to figure it out. The tea was weak as water. My husband ordered chicken fried steak and was served chicken fried chicken. Not that we wanted anymore tea, but the waitress never checked on us after we got our food. We were not brought our check. We had to stand at the register waiting for someone to take notice of us to pay. The place was not even busy, so it's not like the waitress didn't have time to check on us and everyone else. I don't want to be ugly but I don't understand what all the raving reviews are. The breakfast that I ordered was okay but I would never order dinner here based on my husband's plate. I will not be returning.
The waitress was very slow and acted like we were in her way. Food was gas station quality. Beans were out of a can. Sausage had no pork in it. The soups are decent. They definitely need to steep it up. The client's are there please step it up or sell to someone who will put all their heart into it. The lady from Pepper's cafe needs to go she's the reason I quit going there.
The staff was very nice during my visit, however the food is on the other side of the spectrum of what one would call 'Good Food'. The flavor profiles are nothing like you'd expect from even simple meals like a Breakfast sandwich. Definitely not a place I would pay money to eat at again.
I’ve been going to this place since it opened. Today I went and ordered a pork dish and French toast. I’m not sure if they changed cooks but the meat seemed tough and as if was not freshly made. Portion was half of what I’ve always received before. My French toast was not fully cooked. The eggs were raw inside. The prices went up understandable, but the potions are getting smaller. I really liked it here but I’m not sure if I’m going back. Very disappointed because we left hungry. Waitress was great.
Good food and service, however this place needs to be better at being clean! Sure they wipe the tables in between clients but geez sweep the floor. I’m here eating and there’s trash all over floor the along with half a burger patty some kid threw on the floor and no one cares to it pick up? Not sure about coming back, I like the food but I don’t like to eat in trashy spaces. Not the first time I’ve seen this either, been here many times…
We did not have a good experience here. The waitress was very blatantly rude to us. We have no idea why, but she even rolled her eyes at one point... she was clearly not happy to be serving us for some reason. We asked for a few minutes to figure out what we wanted, and then she didn't return for quite a while. We tried to get her attention that we were ready to order... she saw us and gave a head nod like she'll get to us, but she continued standing behind the counter, talking for several minutes before actually coming over to take our order. Both my daughters order and mine were incorrect (sides forgotten and wrong items brought out), and we each found a hair on our plate partway through the meal. We told the waitress, but she literally shrugged her shoulders like "so what"? Our family will not be back there and can not recommend it. We've been there before and had a decent experience, but this has totally ruined it for us.
Staff needs customer service training, especially the cashier Maria. Upon walking up to the register, not a single employee greeted or acknowledged I was standing there ready to place an order. The cashier, Maria, stood at the register doing what I imagine was closing out a check. She then walked away to do other tasks without saying a single word. She eventually returned to register to take my order. A simple "Hi, I'll be with you in just a moment" goes a long way! This place was recommended to me from a co-worker, but after experiencing this type of service, it will be my first and only visit.
If you don't know about good food then you will like the food offered here. It took over an hour to seat 9 people. When we finally got our food 30 mins later. Only one dish our of the 9 dishes was good. The menudo and pozole were flavorless. The chicken fried steak was so small. Three out the breakfast plates were okay Nothing to brag about like the reviews had said. The eggs Benedict we're also just okay. The waitress came around only 2 times to check on us. Not sure what all the good reviews were about because the food was not good. Yes it's cheap but quality is exactly what you pay for. They don't do anything that makes this place worth coming back to.
Avoid at all costs. Prices and pictures on menu are wrong. Don't expect anything other than Sysco crap thrown together and served by waitstaff who couldn't care less. Awful
They have rats. I went to eat with my family. We always go every weekend. We decided to take our family that came to visit us. Never again will I step a foot here. A rat went across my legs and ran into the kitchen.
I would have said my experience was ok because the menudo was ok. I asked for babacoa tacos and I got dry brisket tacos. My reason for my one star is...the kitchen lady did NOT wash her hands after using the bathroom. I was shocked, don't know if she knew I was in there as well, but in any case. That's a big NO NO. She also placed and removed cones that were holding the door back to the area behind the register.
First of all, very unfriendly. I ordered chicken fried chicken dinner, which took a long time.(wait) While I was waiting, I went up to the counter to ask the lady a question, she acted like I was bothering her. Waitress didn't even greet me as I walked in. Finally, when my order was ready, she called me to pick it up. I took the meal to my mom at a nursing home, and when I opened her meal, it was the wrong order. I took it back. They gave me the correct order. Chicken fried chicken. Sides were mashed potatoes, pinto beans. They did not put the gravy in the order. My mother said the chicken fried chicken was a little rough. She did not like the beans. Mom said the mashed potatoes were "ok" All in all, I will never go back. Not because the food sucked, but mainly because they were so unfriendly! She didn't even apologize! Hey lady! You want to run hospitality? Treat your customers nice! Greet your customers when they come in! Tell them "Thank you!" You don't know how? Take a class, because, from what I exprerienced, you don't have none.
We come here all the time never had a issue Today 09/17/2025 We came in the restaurant and immediately sat down . It was not busy at all . The waitress came to our table immediately and asked if we were ready we were not and let her know to give us a second she had an attitude and walked off . 20 minute later she was no where to be found . We looked around and she was sitting down eating . So we just paid for our coffee and orange juice and left . You have lost a good customer because one person had a bad day apparently and decided to take it out on the customer ! Smh .
I've lived here in mesquite 15yrs and never been here but always passed it but kept telling myself I gotta try this place. Reviews looked good prices looked good and wide variety of food. The day finally came and we went and let's just say we did not feel welcomed at all. We weren't greeted when he entered, we got our own menus. We never got asked not once if we were ok or needed anything after we got our food. No refills were offered just a big disappointment. Only thing good was the price ..my food was mid but my husband and daughter enjoyed their food. Other than that let's just say we will never return but thank you for the experience.....or not
