This place was an absolute 5/5! The manager and staff provided excellent service and we were even able to take food to go. I have been disappointed with the guacamole at other locations but this was excellent, and the food was nice and hot. I definitely recommend visiting.
Markus was a wonderful server tonight. He interacted with our 3 boys during dinner and stayed on top of ensuring our drinks were full and we had everything we needed during our visit. We were skeptical to try on the border after many years due to a negative experience at a different location but glad we stopped in Mesquite. Excellent service and food!
When I came in the door I was told that.they have just in the last week.Been taken over by papacitos, and they have changed their salsa and their seasonings of their meats. I really enjoyed the meal and the salsa was excellent. So if you've gone before and didn't care for it, try it again, it's different now.
Love the new menu and recipes! Honestly the only thing I liked at OTB was the Watermelon Margaritas. Pappasito’s is my favorite restaurant. So getting the same food for OTB prices is a win in my book!
Okay so I visited yesterday and they have been purchased by Papa’s and they are now serving Pappasitas food and drinks. Matt in the bar as always was five star service the food was excellent and the margaritas were excellent!!!
We've been going to the Mesquite location for over 14 years now and have always loved the environment the staff, service has always been great. Shout out to Matt, bartender/server the best! But something has changed recently and not for the best. I'm understanding the franchise is now under new ownership and the food (while the menu is pretty much the same) is now being prepared differently. Not good. My husband and I typically order the fajitas for two and honestly it was previously the best place to get them. But now, no bell pepper only onions, raw jalapeño and only enough tortillas and condiments for 1! The meat is bland and seems boiled rather than grilled. I hate giving them a bad review but if it isn't broken don't try to fix it! We will still come here for the atmosphere, staff, drinks, but if the way they are preparing the food stays the same, we will be dining elsewhere. Love the staff! But the food has lost quality.
Grest food service faster service. DARBY she have great personality always smile all customers she knows how take customers I'm so happy visit this restaurant 3 times a week I never have complaints. DARBY she is hard working person with good attitude.
Nothing to complain about. The chips and sauce were good. Food did not take long to get to us. I loved my food, when I read that it was a bolio bun i thought it was going to be hard but the buns were soft which for me made it so much better. Beans and rice were good nothing to complain. On a different note the booth seats were so comfy.
Is nice the place the waitress is so polite and very helpful I love the food is good to have lunch there .
The best service and I love the food and ambiance. Thank you for the whole team.
Friday 2/22/2019 5:15 pm ck in Table: 6:00 pm Alexis - Waitress $ Casual Tex Mex Dining Margarita Day - $PECIAL$ On The Border My cousin and I took advantage of Margarita Day....🍸🍸 We had chips and salsa and margaritas. It was "SUPER CROWDED" but we got seated and our waitress Alexis was at our table immediately. Took our order she was very polite, fast and always a SMILE 😃 even as busy as she was. We took our time, talked relaxed sipped our drinks and munched on our chips and salsa. Alexis got us a 2nd drink and butter for our chips....she is a very sociable person. We left at 7:30 pm....I will honestly say...not one time did I or my cousin ever feel we needed to hurry up and leave since we did not order any food. *We was going to sit at the bar but it was totally over-flowing "No seats at all"*!!!!!. Over all 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟's for the seating, atmosphere and most important the service we were given. Considering the wait, very understandable due to the EVENT!!!. 🍸 🍸 🎉Happy Margarita Day E1 🍸🎉
The food, the service...20/10 Our server Malachi was absolutely awesome! Made sure we were okay from start to finish, and updated us about the delay in our to-go order but he was absolutely awesome! The hostess was awesome too! The place has changed since my man and I were last here but the service and good food made up for it. We will definitely be back again! Keep up the great work!
the meals and cost was great...though we did have a 50 dollar gift card...the waitress was awesome and informed me if i downloaded the app I'd get an extra discount for the queso dip we ordered...awesome location...will definitely come back
Every time I come to the Mesquite location, Moses does an exceptional job! Bar area is always clean & service is top notch. Will be back for sure!
The new changes were much needed - our fajitas today were SPECTACULAR. Great quality chicken and the guacamole was very fresh. The chips and salsa have upgraded tremendously. We for sure will be back more often!!
Our recent visit to On The Border was fantastic. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken chimichanga, my husband's custom enchilada plate was excellent, and our son's chicken quesadilla kids' meal was a hit. We also loved the sopaipillas for dessert! Our waitress, a kind and attentive young Hispanic lady whose name I unfortunately didn't catch, truly elevated our experience. She was outstanding, ensuring our drinks were always full and always taking care of our needs, even going out of her way to make our son smile. She's an amazing individual and waitress, and we appreciate her exceptional service. We had a great time overall! Can't wait to go back.
This is our happy hour place now. We have been there several times to enjoy their drinks and food specials. We love sitting at the bar because the bartenders give us great service. You can't beat the food specials. As far as dining there other than happy hour, we don't really consider them true Mexican food because my wife likes good chicken enchiladas and fresh chicken they use that shredded cooked chicken. However they do have an excellent ultimate fajitas and carne asada. That is probably there best items on the menu. As for appetizers we love their firecracker stuffed jalapenos and it is also on the happy hour menu.
My bestie invited me to a last minute lunch this past Friday. It was late, about 2pm and they were pretty empty so we were seated immediately. They seated us in a booth that I didn't feel quite comfortable sitting in. I know this is a casual dining place but really, it's a chain - please maintain your booth seats! Many had tears and the mending looked to me as if someone had vomited on it. No thank you! We took a smaller booth and were greeted quickly by a nice server. We hesitated and she quickly offered to bring us waters while we perused the menu - thank you! We both ordered the lunch specials and I loved the chicken enchilada and cheese enchilada. I haven't had Tex-Mex lately, and this did not disappoint. My buddy was in the mood for margaritas so I tried the watermelon - yum, then we had the skinny margaritas. A nice time and our server was very good. Please remember to inspect your seating so that no one feels uncomfortable sitting on them. It's more important than you think!
We had a great experience here. They offered exceptional service and our server was just awesome. He made the dining experience more enjoyable with his terrific personality and conversation. Food was excellent and served promptly. We had the shrimp tacos and beef chimichangas, and the Primo Queso was a yummy starter for our meal. Delicious! I highly recommend a visit to this location. Your drinks are kept filled, the food is fabulous and served piping hot, and the customer service is attentive, engaging, and just outstanding!
Update 3/16/24: When Chedders and TRH was pavked on the border, sat us as soon as we walked in. I noticed they add gratituity to the total of your order 18%. Customer service was great, and our waiter was very attentive. Great lunch date. It wasn't packed at all. Highly recommend. Will definitely go back.

We had the best server, ask for Moses, he's the best! He went above and beyond even though they were really busy!

The best mexican food ever. The best queso. The best enchilda's. The best chips. Service was great. Can't wait to go back. Prices are good too.

Had a Great Time today at on the border the Waiter CODY was great very polite he recommended some great drinks made us feel at Home always ask did everything turn out okay thanks CODY 5 s. THANKS
Went with friends for my husband’s birthday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Our server was DARBY and she was a treasure. We’re local but like to stop in every now and then. Love OTB! Thanks, Darby for helping to make our celebration fun! (The drinks were great as well!)
The food was on 10 but the server was on 12!! Our server, Darby had a great attitude as soon as she greeted us. The food was so hot when it came out. She was very attentive I wouldn’t want another server and if she’s not working then I would rather serve myself. 😂😂She really did her big one. Top tier customer service.
Everything was nice, our waiter was fast and friendly and we were quickly seated. Chips and queso were excellent, and I thought the salsa was very tasty but some people might think it too spicy. Everything was very fresh tasting. I was a little disappointed in the shrimp "border bowl" I got, as it only had 6 non-jumbo shrimp. They were delicious but for $11 I expected a bit more, the bowl was mostly cheap (but tasty) filler like rice and beans. I would say for that particular item, Chipotle is a better bet. Other than that small gripe everything was great.
Great atmosphere! Was there for a Christmas party of 20+ people. The waitress did a great job of serving us by herself.
Drinks are good. Definitely has alcohol in them. They now have birria tacos. They were good but I've had much better. Dipping the tortilla in the sauce will take them to the next level. That wasn't the case here. This rice is really amazing. Veggies a bit bland. I ordered chicken empanadas. However, I took them to go and they were beef empanadas, but really good! Waitress seemed a bit distant and not very attentive. Seen walking all over everywhere with nothing in her hands. She was still nice though. Overall good experience at this location.

The service was a bit slow for a night they didn't seem overly busy. The lines were out the door and there was over a 45 minute wait for party of 5. When we were finally seated I noticed a far amount of tables waiting to be bussed, and some were not done by the time we had finished our meal. The food was good, but the borderita was the highlight of the night. I would recommend coming for lunch and maybe not when you know it'll be crowded.
Not a fan of the new chips and salsa. I liked the old better. The new margaritas were to sour!
The food is overpriced for what it is, and the wait staff isn't ad attentive as they should be.
It's Jay ok but the DRINKS. I'll be back for. Wealso had a great server who's name o forgot abs in so sorry she was amazing
I was feeling nostalgic and decided to pop in on the border. I haven’t been to one in years. I only had the shrimp tacos nothing was warm on my plate. The beans were chunky. The rice was clumpy. The only thing good was the queso and chips. The strawberry lemonade was definitely just pink lemonade with some little pieces of strawberries added in not worth more than a regular drink. The chips did seem fresh. The service was great. My server was really nice so I’m gonna give it three stars and it’s moderately priced so it’s affordable for casual dining.
Resturant was dirty. Beginning at the front door handles. Had to wait to be seated, even though not crowded. Walk to our booth was not inspiring. Floor was littered with broken chips, corners off of sweetener packs,etc...once seated, my boots were sliding on something greasy on the tile floor under our booth. Could not get salt out of the shaker. Grabbed another off an empty table, same thing! All clumped together from moisture. Eceptional service from such young staff. Food was above average for our party of three.
I went through the to-go go section and they did not have any plastic eating utensils and they were short-staffed. Also, when I got home I found out that my order was incorrect. Overall, the food tasted very good. The customer service and attention to detail was quite poor. I would recommend eating at this restaurant only if you're dining in.
Cool place for a quick bite, they could improve on a few things but was a good value. The chicken quesadillas were average, along with the loaded nachos. Only tried appetizers because we were killing time. However, they added a couple burgers to their menu that are very intriguing and look very good and awesome for the price. They have 2 huge patties that look like real hamburger patties and fries for $15.99. By the look they put all burgers joints to shame vs. their meal deals. Will be trying it my next visit...

Date of Visit: 7/4/25-Yes, I know I’m a little late on my review, but here it goes. It was the 4th of July, and the restaurant was empty and quiet. We were craving chips and salsa, so we decided to try OTB. Unfortunately, we should have gone to the competition across the street. The young male server brought us very old chips. They weren’t even crunchy—they folded when you bit into them and tasted sick/rotten. I politely mentioned it to the server, and another server overheard and quickly brought us a fresh warm batch, which we appreciated. Still, I can’t understand why they would even serve old chips in the first place. Next came our flautas, which were overly fried. That also wasn’t great. Then, in what I assume was an attempt to make things right, the server gave us a bag of fresh chips with salsa to go. Unfortunately, he placed the bag on the floor next to my child’s foot—on the dirty, sticky, gross floor. I was honestly shocked. Why not place it on the table? We hadn’t visited OTB since 2022, and sadly, this experience sealed the deal. Spending $50 for such an unpleasant visit is unacceptable. The one highlight: the watermelon margarita was a solid 10/10.
Terrible service this time. We were there to celebrate my dad's 88th birthday.Sever took quite a bit of time to acknowledge us. Brought us our drinks and chips and salsa and we ordered queso as an appetizer. She brought our queso and dropped it off at the table and disappeared. She didn't give us a chance to ask for more chips and salsa. The queso just sat and we couldn't eat it. By the time she came back the queso was cold. We asked her to reheat it and bring back more chips and salsa. That took a very long time as well. I asked for tortillas and butter and we never got them Not a good night for what was supposed to be a birthday celebration for our family.
We used to love On the border, but on our visit today we realized they merged with another chain. The food is not the same and not nearly as good as it used to be. We will just have to scratch them off our list.
Love the service but the food is no longer the same the charro beans were horrible its just not the same they need to keep the same because its a huge difference!! Very disappointing when you ask for the same ultimate fajitas and did not have the same taste and hardly ate anything of it the fajitas weregood and shrimp but the rest was not.
2/22/26 The Tortilla soup is very bland now. Ive been coming to OTB for over 10yrs just for the Tortilla soup and now its more of a broth, a 10th of the spice. Very disappointing. Service is great, always is, the bartender/Server is awesome, we always get the same guy. Clearly this is corporate or someone is new idk but someway somehow this needs to be fixed. Sincerely, someone who doesn't want to cook at home.
I used to visit this location often when I lived in Mesquite. Since moving to the Forney area I hadn’t been in awhile, I decided to stop by on my way home to pick up dinner for my family. The last time we ate here was when they had the 2 4 6 dinner deals, so it had been a while. I ordered the appetizer plate that comes with four beef empanadas. I was told it would include lettuce, guacamole, and queso. When I quickly checked the bag at the restaurant, it looked like everything was there. However, after just getting off work and being ready to go home, shower, and relax, I didn’t take everything out to double-check the order. When I got home and started serving my family, I noticed there was no lettuce or guacamole. There was also a very small container of queso—when I say small, I mean the same size container you’d normally get to-go butter in. I also ordered a side of rice, and the portion I received was about a kid-sized scoop. I called and spoke with the manager, Maria, who said they would mail me some comp bucks. From how she explained it, it sounded like they would help cover my next order, although it wasn’t clear if that meant the whole meal or just part of it. Overall, I’m disappointed with the order. If I didn’t live so far away now, I probably would have gone back to have it corrected. Lesson learned: no matter how tired you are, always check your food before leaving. Thank you to Maria for trying to help resolve the situation. Hopefully the comp bucks arrive soon so we can give them another try.
I believe this is more of a franchise issue. The menu/food provider needs an update. The beef tacos (at least from the kids menu) tastes like Hormel Chili. The house sauce that's given with the chips is spicy. Unfortunately, the restroom smelled of sewage which probably shifted my mood about eating altogether. My guests and I just didn't feel that the dining experience was noteworthy at this location and chain overall. However, Malachi was phenomenal! Attentive, thorough and kind.
this place use to be my favorite go to for TEx Mex but now hell no. who told them to change the menu cause of new management. I dont like Pappasito's for them to bring their menu to the On the Border…

Date: 4-18-25 1:30 pm. I’ve been in the food industry for several years and I cannot believe the service we received. No one greeted us at the door so we sat at the bar. The bartender straight ignored us. He never greeted us but instead was checking on the tables that were already there, asking them if they were OK. We ended up leaving. When trying to make a complaint the lady just puts me on hold. I used to like the place, but sadly will probably never go back again. Extremely extremely rude, rude service
I usually don’t write reviews about management, but I feel compelled to speak up after witnessing how Janet, the manager, treats one of the waiters, Arturo. He is an outstanding waiter—attentive, friendly, and always making sure customers have a great experience. However, I’ve noticed that Janet seems to single him out unfairly, constantly nitpicking and speaking to him in a condescending manner. It’s uncomfortable to watch, especially when he’s clearly doing a fantastic job. A good manager should support and uplift their staff, not bring them down. I truly hope the restaurant addresses this issue because employees like Arturo deserve a positive and respectful work environment.
The new recipe changes are awful, I despise the new salsa.. that was all yall had because service is lacking. I will not be back after many years of loyalty.
Wev had to ask who our waitress was after waiting for45 minutes. Come to find out she had been walking by our table and hadn't even acknowledged us. Then once we finally put our order in it took another 45 minutes to get our food. I placed a to go order once our food came and had to ask about that. Our waitress never came back to check on us. We thought her shift was over and she went home!! She never brought our tickets, we didn't see her. So we stop a young lady and ask her for tickets and to go containers. She immediately brought them. So . we asked to speak with the manager and told him how our service was. He comped our meal and we tipped the young lady that brought our tickets and to go containers. Then here comes our so called waitress apologizing. We gave her that look and got up and left. They don't have to ever worry about us patronizing there ever again!!!!!!!
Horrible service. Ran out of something to drink during our meal. Said they were bringing more chips, never got them. Couldn't even get our bill so we could leave.
The pick up experience is awful! There used to be a service bell at the front to call over a service attendant but after upper management came by and stated that they did not like it, it was removed.🤷♀️ Which was a terrible idea! It wouldn't be so bad if the employees wouldn't just hide in the hallway/kitchen area or act as though they do not see you in order to avoid coming over. I can't blame the bartenders since they are usually assisting their customers at the bar and are typically pretty busy. This is not something that has happened once or twice but MULTIPLE times. Someone needs to figure out a new method on getting pick up orders in a timely manner...
The service was terrible. Got there at 4pm there were barely any people there, and it took over an hour to get my food and 30 minutesto just place the order. Ordered a gallon sweet peach tea and said peach three times. I got home, and it was just regular unsweetened tea. I did not drink and took it back two days later for a refund.
Arrived at 3:30 with a party and at 7:30pm still no food but was brought out a ticket. I will never in life come back.
I don’t know why they changed their menú, I would usually leave a 5 star review but because it’s changed i am very disapointed, from the chips and salsa to the enchilada dinner. It’s safe to say i will not be coming to on the border anymore until the menú goes back if it even goes back. WHY CHANGE A GOOD THING
Took forever for the srver to get to our table, we wanted to leave but then he appear. We ordered appetizer, server never asked for our order. We didn't said anything, paid and left. It was prettt much empty for a Friday.
Simply just horrible! The service was not good and very slow,I found a hair in the salsa that ain't good at all. The food was horrible not only it looked bad it tasted bad and I have no clue how this place stays busy at all This will be the last time I ever come to this place or any On The Border in the U.S I'll add a pic of my brisket tacos and street tacos and yall judge by the way it looks Any way I can give negative stars? This place sucks..oh and the kids plate was horrible as well
This has been our family favorite for decades! If ANYTHING, we could count on good chips and salsa with a good margarita. The new company has completely ruined the dishes, chips, salsa, even the drinks. I am sad that our family go-to has been ruined.
Since the recent takeover, changes at my local On The Border have been noticeable—and unfortunately, not for the better. While I genuinely appreciate Papas' efforts to keep the franchise alive, it shouldn’t come at the expense of flavor. The hot sauce tasted like pureed tomatoes with no depth. The queso was bland to the point of being inedible—I had to ask for pico de gallo just to give it a hint of flavor. Even the once-reliable fajitas were disappointing and lacked seasoning. Updating a chain shouldn’t be at the cost of beloved staples that had flavor profiles. This is not the On The Border I’ve loved and supported for decades. It breaks my heart to see beloved flavors replaced with what they call “improvements.” Worse still, my stomach is paying the price for food I could hardly eat. Please— don’t Papasitos my On the Border.
We had lunch today at the mesquite location, which we have done many times, the food was horrible even the salsa, we asked our waitness( we always asked for the same one because she was so good) what happened she said another chain purchased them. These 2 Long time customers will never go back !!!!!
Went in to pick up a door dash. I tired talking to any employee for over 20 minutes. Not one employee talked to me, or told would tell me an eta. THEY ALL KEPT DODGING ME. Will never return
We loved the food for many years, then everything changed. Won’t be going back.
If you’re going to order online do it at ur own risk and this place dont play about their discounts now that i guess we can say theyre going bankrupt i applied a discount on my order and they took that shiiiii right BACK… can’t even hit on no tip because these people want tip even tho they don’t do anything but hand me my order lmao crazy. REPEAT i REPEAT dont ever use a discount on an item because this place will remove that once u step foot on the restaurant and u have to pay extra. Food is kinda garbage too
What happened OTB? Wow, way to go from being my go to tex mex spot to being my I'll never go back to place! We went to dinner for 2 birthdays and EVERYTHING was so disappointing! Not only was the menu completely different but the salsa was served warm with a totally gross flavor, the chips were thin and like they were the bottom of the basket, and the queso (used to be my favorite EVER) was greasy, bland and half the size! And then our service was awful too! We asked her about the menu changes and she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. It took us nearly an hour to get our food and there were so many entrees wrong.
On Saturday, I called to arrange seating for 15–17 people at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday. After 10 minutes of being placed on hold with no communication, I hung up. When I called back, I spoke with Janet, the manager, who took down our party details and asked me to call Sunday at 5 p.m. to remind the team so tables could be prepared and ready for the group. I called around 5 p.m., gave a heads up that we’d be there at 6:15 with 15 people, and confirmed the tables would be available and ready for the group. The tables were not ready at 6:15. We were seated around 7 pm, and they sat us at two separate tables. We asked to move the tables together, which they did consent to. It felt like there was no communication, accountability, or clear process for handling a large group, despite doing exactly what we were asked to do. This was disappointing and frustrating.
This restaurant used to be our absolute favorite. For years, every holiday and special occasion meant ordering takeout from here. Sadly, after today’s experience, we won’t be returning. The menu is completely different now, and many of our favorite items are gone. We decided to try several dishes anyway, hoping it would still live up to the memories, but it didn’t. The shrimp tacos were hard and the tortillas crumbled apart. The queso was so watered down it wouldn’t even stay on the chips. The salsa smelled so bad it literally turned our stomachs just from the smell. The enchiladas had no sauce on them at all. The birria tacos were soggy instead of crispy, and the consommé wasn’t even a sauce, it was just full of extra meat. The burrito was dry, the beans were runny, and the rice was hard. The only thing that was actually good was the burger (which is surprising at a Tex-Mex restaurant). To make matters worse, our bill was over $200.00, and when I went to pick up the order, the cashier said I still owed $2.00 — even though my receipt clearly showed a zero balance. I ended up telling them to take it out of the tip I had already left. This place used to be something we looked forward to for special memories. It’s disappointing to see how much it has changed, and unfortunately, we won’t be back.
I was a die hard on the boarder fan. I will no longer be going there with the new changes that have come out. The salsa is not changed to a smokey flavor roasted salsa. The queso that used to be so addicted before, tastes like fuzzy tacos cheese dip blaned with added pico on it. I can not seem to figure out what they did to the southwest chicken tacos almost tastes like rotisserie chicken in it instead fajita chicken. PAPAS bought OTB- and have decided to change some of the best stuff i go for. I will not be returning. My mother will not be returning either. I can tell them of at least 10 people in my circle of friends that will not be returning. I forgot to add my son only eats the rice and beans when we go, they changed it as well. He no longer likes it either- there is now nothing for him to eat there. 3/5/2026 I really do miss the old OTB. Gave it another shot tonight. Got my old fav tacos al carbon instead of chopping up the beef fijita meat they put three long pieces in it. The tacos were not bad. The beans and rice still terrible to salty and they add like a safferon in it i think. Queso ordered i think i can match it to taco bell queso with pico on it. We did the duo queso and guac- the guac was good on the blander side of guac but still good. Salsa still the warm fire roasted flavor. My chapter is offically closed at OTB. Sorry did try though. Husband tried the sante fe chicken- it was to salty for him.
This one changed taste of everything too, guess I am done with OTB. Decided to give it a shot again. Got Santa Fe Chicken and the vegetables was good, chicken and rice was overly salty like they cook for chain smokers with no taste buds. Wife got Taco al carbon and the taco flavor was good, but the meat was fatty and the beans and rice was horrible. Guacamole was almost straight avocado with not much flavor, thankfully I like straight avacado so it was ok. Staff was friendly and top notch as always here.
Horrible experience waiting for a call in order. Its not that it was so late I walked out, but your associates have no customer awareness. They were just having a blast ignoring customers. I've never tried the food and I guess I never will. 2 things every town in Texas has, multiple churches and multiple Mexican restaurants.
New owners changed the menu/ingredients and it’s no longer good. Was a regular for years, but I’m not exaggerating when I say I don’t think I’ll ever go back. All the recent positive reviews make me believe they’re not authentic (maybe offering a discount or something), because there’s no way so many people are genuinely enjoying the new food. Everything that was brought out was disappointing.
For years, we have loved on the border and have loved the food and atmosphere. In certise, of course, has gone up and down depending upon our server. Last night, however, we went and found the menu completely changed. It is like they are trying to force the fajita on you and have done away with the other foods that were so great and made on the border A great place. When we first sat down, we were given chips and salsa as per regular. But the salsa was like something I had never seen before served hot and not very great. Not salsa. We then ordered a cup of queso which we always do, and it came out with a different type of cheese flavor that was watery and had sprinklings of peco on it. We ordered the enchilada plate and it was extra spicy not tasting like the regular enchiladas, they used to have. And the rice was extra spicy as well. Whatever has happened at on the border in the last few months i have no idea, but this change is not a good one.
They've changed their menu & nothing is the same. Items have been removed. New items replaced. They were bought out by a different restaurant chain. If I wanted to eat at Papadeaux, I would have gone there. I go to OTB for their food. However, it is awful now. I was a regular attendee & now I won't go back again.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!! The new food is terrible. Theres nothing on the menu I like anymore. The queso was my favorite for 30+ years. I’m so disappointed they took it. Also the Tortilla soup has changed, the hot sauce, they took the stuffed jalapeños, changed the fajitas. I don’t like any of it. They then put something about OTB since 1982 on the new menu when nothing is even the same. The service is usually good but I won’t be returning with the new menu.
I love on the border mexican gill, but i do t know what happened to the restaurant, they changed the chips and salsa, is a full difference menu, rice looks like soup, my wife ordered a fajita salad, chicken wasn't gill, I was cooked on a flat gill, I order a burrito the taste was horrible. I used to go every weekend to have a good time with me wife, not no more last time I go. Bring the old menu back and the service too.
This has been mine and my best friends weekly lunch spot for a long time. Sometimes twice a week depending on how a week went. However, with all the food and ingredient changes we will be finding a new place to frequent. Just save yourself the aggravation. The salsa had such a bold tomato taste with barely any flavor. Could have been mistaken for spicy spaghetti sauce. The rice and beans had an extreme tang that made them inedible. I feel like the new owners came in to make on the border more like papacitos and it's miserable. I don't visit that place for a reason. Flavors maybe bolder but they definitely do not compliment each other. Just sad that they are changing it all.
I ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and it was extremely salty. I mean inedible! Im not a picky person and I can deal with food being a little salty but this was extremely salty like someone added one cup of salt to my bowl. It was so salty that all I could taste was salt. And the tortilla chips were extremely stale and hard. Idk what happened this time but I normally don’t have this problem with their chicken tortilla soup.

Mesquite, we all know our local spots evolve. Sometimes it’s a new paint job, sometimes it’s a fresh take on the menu. At On The Border, there’s been a bit of chatter lately about some new directions, particularly with the salsa and menu offerings. But what truly stands out, even amidst these changes, is the heart of the place: the people and the plates that keep folks coming back. Let’s talk service, because that’s where On The Border truly shines. You know when you get a server who just get...

Hey Mesquite, let's chat about a local favorite that's truly stepping up its game. You know On The Border, right? Their Mesquite spot has been making some waves lately, and from what I'm hearing – and tasting – it's all for the better. It feels like this place has really hit its stride, offering up that classic Tex-Mex comfort with a renewed sparkle.I've been hearing fantastic things about the recent changes, and folks are raving. Specifically, the fajitas are getting some serious praise. One
