Opinions de Hong Kong Cafe Monterey Park
They have a very generous breakfast set that gives you the flexibility to choose what you want to eat at a great price point. This can include congee, pineapple bun w/butter, and rice noodles with sauce. Note that breakfast is only served till 11:30am. I would recommend the rice noodle and milk tea, which has a taste very close to those I have had in HK. Fun quirk is that they give you an entire bottle of condensed milk so you can season your tea the way you like it
Super affordable and super delicious. This cafe serves authentic Hong Kong style breakfast and lunch. The combo meals allow for an entree, side, and drink. Pineapple bun is super crispy and the salty butter inside is portioned well. Spam, egg, and noodle soup is very delicious as the main breakfast. And the iced yuenyueng (mix of coffee and tea) was delicious - just like I had in hong kong. I will definitely return!
As a visiting New Yorker, I wholeheartedly recommend this spot if you’re looking for Hong Kong cha chaan teng type food. Breakfast sets were a bit pricier than New York prices but well worth it.
My family and I come here a lot, the food is always good here. We recommend the beef udon, chicken steak, and wagyu fried rice.
This Hong Kong-style tea restaurant offers excellent value for money and delicious food. Would definitely come back again!
A small authentic place, and everything is absolutely delicious! We ordered lots of plates to share.
This restaurant has been in Monterey Park for many many years. It has the nostalgic Hong Kong Cafe vibe. Nothing fancy, just quick bites. The waiter & waitress are not chatty, they just want you to order and finish your meal fast, so they have the table for the next customer. They are not rude, that is the real vibe from Cafe in Hong Kong. It is not a place to meet up with friends to talk.
Super busy in the AM but great deals & food options. Customers this area -difficult inconsiderate so ⭐ for their speed/effort.
A truly authentic Hong Kong–style fast food restaurant that instantly brings back memories of street-side noodle shops in Hong Kong. The atmosphere is simple and casual, just comforting, flavorful food served quickly. The noodle soup with beef tendons and wontons is the highlight for me. The broth is rich, savory, and deeply aromatic without being overly salty. The beef tendons are perfectly braised — tender, soft, and full of flavor with that melt-in-your-mouth texture. The wontons are plump and juicy, wrapped in delicate, silky skins, and filled generously with fresh shrimp and seasoned pork. The noodles have a nice bite to them, absorbing the broth beautifully. And of course, the Hong Kong–style milk tea completes the meal. It has that smooth, strong tea flavor balanced with just the right level of sweetness — creamy, fragrant, and incredibly satisfying. If you’re craving real Hong Kong street food flavors, this place absolutely delivers.
This spot is super cute and also offered a Thanksgiving special (11/24-11/27 where they give you a pineapple bun sandwich when you spend over $50. I would come back even when they don’t have a Thanksgiving special! Really good comfort food.
Hong Kong Cafe in Monterey Park is a classic spot for authentic Hong Kong–style comfort food. The menu has all the favorites — BBQ pork, curry dishes , wonton noodle soup, and stir-fried dishes — and everything comes out flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. If you’re craving real Hong Kong–style dishes done right, this place is a solid go-to in Monterey Park. Definitely worth coming back again.
I absolutely love the Wagyu beef fried rice here. It's a must-order every time I come. The other dishes are also excellent! I'll definitely be back next time
My favorite place for baked pork chop rice 焗猪扒饭! They put real effort in it. fresh ingredients and use fried rice for this dish to add even more flavor.
“I should have written this review 15 years ago! As an Irvine resident, I visit this cafe often, and it never disappoints. The food is incredibly flavorful and brings back memories of life in HK. I only wish we had a place like this in OC—it would be an instant favorite!”
I was riding my bike from DTLA to Riverside one hot afternoon in August and I needed a bike friendly place with an authentic Hong Kong vibe. Hong Kong Cafe turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. I had the HK style coffee + milk tea on ice with an order of Ovaltine French toast as a bite. It hit the spot, and the price was comparable to what you'd pay for the same product at a similar restaurant in Hong Kong city. Would definitely recommend it and go again.
Great spot for HK breakfast! The beef congee was perfection. Noodle soup and toast were great too. Classic menu and family local vibe. Everything came out fast. The server didn’t really speak English (and I don’t really speak Chinese) but it was totally fine just made sure to point at specifically what I wanted. Milk tea was not too sweet!!
The atmosphere here is amazing and the waiters were really kind. Overall, this place is recommended because their food is just amazing.
Their sizzling steak is really delicious — tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Highly recommended!
They have air conditioning. Food was good. Fur hk breakfast, it hits the spot. I really enjoyed the fried chicken and eggs and the rice rolls. The French toast was ok, I just thought it was eggy. Milk tea was good and pre sweetened (however no refills :( ). Pro tip: if you order iced, you'll get a bigger cup with more tea or coffee to drink.
It is one of the top Hong Kong style cafes in the area. The menu is sort of limited since the location is small. But the food tastes awesome, and the quality control is good. It's located in a small corner, so people tend to miss it if they just drive by. But it's a popular location among the locals and tends to get really crowded during lunch and dinner rush. They have a small parking lot right behind the restaurant, but the spaces are limite. So if you come during rush hours, it's going to be hard to find parking. The staff are generally pretty friendly, but it's going to be hard to get their attention when it's busy. Pricing is a bit above average, but it's nothing crazy. If you want a more complete menu, they do have a bigger location on Atlantic Blvd right off the 10 freeway. It's in the same plaza as the AMC right next to the 24 Hour Fitness gym.

mhmmmmm. this place is on my must visit list any time I hit up SoCal. everything always taste good no matter what i order. many locals are always there too so that must be a good sign. and the Iced Hong Kong milk tea is one of the best. perfect balance between milkiness and tea.
I really like this place. My favorite Hong Kong cafe when I’m in town. We drive from temple city to eat here and I love the food and lemon iced tea here.
Their breakfast special (available until 11 am) is awesome. For about 14 dollars, I got one Hong Kong style iced milk tea, one huge piece of fried chicken steak and egg, plus stir fried noodle. Very authentic Hong Kong style. Plenty of parking behind the building.

Ordered a takeout and use my own box. The waitress was considerate and told me the spaghetti will get too soft if they put it together with soup. So they separated them for me and gave me another box. I was ordering 通粉 though but sold out. The porridge (皮蛋瘦肉粥) and beaf soup (牛杂) were good (HK ok standard but good in US). However the choices of porridge were too limited. Next time if I go there I will try other afternoon tea items, but the restaurant is too far from where I am living…
Strongly recommend for the Breakfast combo. $13 for a main dish, a side dish and a drink. For the main dish, one can choose from noodles and protein. For the side dish, one can choose from bakery items. Other than that, the lemon black tea and Hong Kong milk tea are all good choices for the drink option.
雜扒Mix grill was good. Both the pork chops and chicken was crispy and flavorful. 黑椒汁Black pepper sauce was little too thicc. They ran out of rice so they offered pasta otherwise had to wait 20mins for it. 牛腩魚旦湯麵 egg noodle soup was great. Will try 菠蘿包 pineapple bread next time.
Milk tea was really good. It comes free when you buy a breakfast deal for congee for a total of $11.95 plus tax. Congee was a little thin but still good, a little too much ginger for my taste. Youtiao (Chinese fried bread) was normal and a little on the lighter fried side which was better than other places. Rice roll was also standard and the sauce was good when mixed up. Cash only. They are very slow on bringing your change so better to have exact payment. Free parking.
Brings back HK memories for me :) I got the satay beef noodles (noodles are instant noodles!) which had a great soup-the pineapple chunks did it for me. Also got a bowl of curry fish balls to boot, loved it.
Great HK style food ! Very tasty and authentic for HK genre. A bit busy in the weekend mornings
The food is delicious with generous portions and reasonable price. This place is quite small, but many seats outdoors. The staff are helpful and fast.
Sadly, I don't think they have a lunch special, but their prices are competitive to help make up for it; give them a try. My to-go order took forever but the wait for the fried rice was worth it. I've been here once to order 2 dishes and now they're a saved location, I have to try more food!!! Excellent fried rice; better than my own, and I know how I like my fried rice. The Chow Fun is basic and tasted kind of plain, but had good slices of beef! Cozy space but not too cozy. Okay seat and table quantity. Average seat quality. This place is easy to miss of you've never been here before. There's a long parking lot with adequate parking. Don't accidentally drive into the supermarket parking lot, there's a fence separating the lots. I hope their other food is as good as their fried rice!!! I will be back with my family to try this place.

It is very pricy given that the food is just reasonably acceptable but the cold milk tea 🧋 is a but disappointed 😢 …. don’t know why they really wanted to suck many people/tables into such small place / area … we are in America not Hong Kong, do you intentionally make everyone feel we are in Hong Kong 寸金尺土?
Service: My experience with the staff was mixed—while the two female servers were friendly and efficient, the two male staff members appeared disinterested and unresponsive. Hong Kong Milk Tea: A major letdown. The tea was overpoweringly bitter, likely due to stale, low-grade leaves and improper brewing. Even after adding extra evaporated milk or condensed milk, the harsh, over-steeped taste remained, so strong it left my stomach unsettled. At this price point, I expected a smooth, authentic blend, not this poorly executed version. Food: Beef Steak & Pork Chops: Tough, bland, and made with subpar cuts of meat. Egg Sandwich: The sole decent item, though the unnecessary mayonnaise made it stray from traditional Cha Chaan Teng simplicity. Inconsistent quality across both service and dishes, with most offerings failing to justify the cost. This restaurant misses the mark for genuine Hong Kong café standards. Won’t be returning.
My family wanted to eat their fried rice, so I drove over to take some home. What was sad was the attitude of the man at the front desk was unbelievable. It was dinner time and the restaurant was very noisy. I didn't hear the first sentence clearly, so the man yelled at me very loudly. It's unbelievable that such an employee can work at the front desk. My family and I will never come back. At least other restaurants don't yell at customers for no reason.
I don't know is it same manager of Atlantic Blvd Monterey Park, the product no good and dirty, We got sick after dinner. We still have the receipt of that dinner, the service was so worst, so we paid no tips on that meal, the style is not Hong Kong, like the Chinese words.
The meat was flavorless and overly fatty — and to make it worse, it cost nearly twenty dollars. I ended up throwing the whole thing away.

I ordered wonton and beef brisket noodles, but it took over 30 minutes to receive my food. To make matters worse, they made a mistake and used beef tendon instead of beef brisket.
