My wife and I spent our one year anniversary here. It was great. The lobster hibachi was award worthy. The staff was friendly and attentive. You will not leave hungry. Portions are huge. Our chef was very talented and we look forward to coming back for my wife's birthday. Great night!!!
It was a wonderful time, clean, fun atmosphere and the food was delicious 😋 the staff were nice and checked on us often to ensure we were taken care of. Our dinner reservations started at 630 but we chatted for a while after we were done eating and they never rushed us out. The outside is a little sketchy looking but once your inside its pretty nice 👌
I would give this a 4.5 star review, but I can't. I've been coming back to the restaurant for years, but it doesn't rise above all expectations for the price point. I have never had the hibachi, but the sushi keeps coming back for more. Inventive rolls that are tasty and filling. Try the mango tango, angry dragon, and deluxe rolls. The service is usually solid, but nothing exceptional. Good atmosphere, I especially like it on their busier nights where they have a piano player. A little bit on the pricey side, but overall worth it.
I walked in and was greeted by a warm friendly manager who promptly greeted and seated me. The atmosphere and decor were both excellent. I was quickly greeted by a friendly bartender who made an excellent drink that was reasonably priced. A good experienced all around I plan to dine there soon and try the food
The food was amazing the chef was funny attentive and really know what he was doing the portion sizes were huge and the price was very fair. The atmosphere there was really comforting and just a lot of fun. Our server was very good and right on the money with everything. I will go back to this place is absolutely worth my time and the experience was just that good.
Quincy was our bartender/server for the night. We chose to sit at the bar and not the packed hibachi side. Best decision ever. Quincy was very attentive and engaging. Food came out perfect as always. We usually get it to go but because we had a date night close by, my husband and I decided to dine in. 100% would come and dine in again.
This was a fun night out! We took our sons who are 2 and 5 for their first ever hibachi experience and they both loved it despite not being sure at first. The youngest ended by asking for "more fire"! The chef was great - friendly and engaging, and we were all delighted with our food. I am vegetarian and the tofu option was amazing too. I certainly didn't feel that I was missing out in any way. Great place and we'd certainly visit again if we were in the area.
We celebrated our friend’s birthday for hibachi. The chef Biak very nice. Emily our server is so sweet. Song was very patient with us while waiting for the whole party came, they did not rush us to go home even though the restaurant was closed. I ordered from sushi menu while others ordered hibachi. The portion is so big and we all take the food home. Sakura home is always my favorite restaurant for the past 5 years. I hosted so many parties there, from birthday to graduation. Everyone is so nice, from chef to staff, except one waiter, but since most of them are nice, still get 5 stars for them.
The server needs to be more attentive of drinks ordered
Had an amazing hibachi experience on a busy NYE night. Ken was our server and he made our dinner extra special, placing special importance to my family's dietary needs, checking in often, and made sure it was a memorable night. Chef was a professional and knew how to keep the table's undivided attention. Overall a great time. Definitely coming back.
We've been to place twice. The first time we had an incredible experience our Chef was amazing we had hibachi but they were not very busy that night. The second time we went was a little over a week ago. We still had a great time but they were extremely busy and even with a reservation we sat and waited for the food to be cooked for about an hour. It was still really good! Our chicken Hibachi was rather dry but with yum yum sauce it made it better! Is it still one of the best Hibachi places that we have gone to in the area. We'll definitely be coming back in the future for a special night!
This was my first time. We were taken to our table right away. Waitress was good. Chef was good. Food was very flavorful and there was a lot of it! I will definitely go back.
This was our first visit to Sakura House. The food was absolutely delicious. The hibachi chef was very entertaining and did a fantastic job. Everything was perfect. Serving sizes were huge as expected 😊 well worth the money. Our server Mark was very attentive and filled drinks when needed. He cleared soup/salad bowls as we finished. He was very nice and offered us boxes and cleaned plates when we were finished. We had friends from out of state who came with us. Thank you for the amazing evening. We'll definitely be back. As we're leaving the ladies up from thanked us and was very sweet. I grabs a business card so I could share it on Facebook. We will definitely be back in the near future 😊 again please send our thanks to the hibachi chef and Mark.
Hibachi was done like usual but a great experience for someone who has never had it. Nice performance and cooked perfectly. Get a take home box. Tell your kids there will be some flames at the beginning so it doesn't scare them Then either a train or volcano 🌋 to entertain you. Fun.
As we sat down, I began reading the reviews, and actually considered leaving. Couldn’t have been more wrong. We were seated immediately, the table was set, menus out, and the water glasses filled. We ordered within 10 minutes, and about 5 minutes later the soups came, it was delicious, 5 minutes later the salads came, generous portions, and very fresh lettuce, with plenty of tasty dressing. The chef started cooking at our grill 30 minutes after we walked in, perfect timing! He reviewed our orders, and performed his show. Great attitude, very friendly, and perfectly prepared. The dining room couldn’t have been cleaner, the vents, ceilings, grills and floor were meticulously clean. All the food was as fresh as it could be. The portions were twice what we usually get at these types of establishments. I had the fillet mignon with lobster, big fresh tail, and the fillet melted in my mouth. Our hostess, Ming, was a delight, my family talked to her for about 15 minutes as we were leaving, she shared pictures of her recent trip to Shanghai, and made jokes, just a perfect end to the evening. I even sat next to that steel door, the temperature was comfortable, I can understand with recent weather, it could get cold sitting there. If you’re considering a meal there, you’re in for a treat. Even the leftovers were as good as the fresh meal. We highly recommend this restaurant.
My business partner and I put together a last minute dinner meeting and showed up to Sakura Home without a reservation, during a busy dinner hour. Our server and host, Kenneth, took the extra steps to set us up in their traditional Japanese private dining room, which was quite a private and unique experience. The chefs presented us with an over-the-top delivery that dramatically exceeded expectations (see pics!). We were blown away! The fish was fresh, the rolls were creative, and the overall meal and service were truly exceptional. Thanks, Ken, for your excellent and thoughtful service. We’ll be back soon! Highly recommend Sakura Home for sushi or hibachi. Both are great.
Please follow us on Facebook at SNDTRAVELS & also Eat Well Travel Often and Instagram at SNDTRAVELS and SNDTRAVELSEATWELLTRAVELOFTEN. Dinner last night next door to the hotel. I love Japanese hibachi. Ordered the filer, lobster and shrimp. Comes with the usual mushroom soup, fried rice and veggies all of which were good I would have liked a little more onion in the veggies but I enjoyed them. The filet, lobster and shrimp were all cooked perfect and, no, I didn't get any pictured of the food. I was really hungry and didn't think quick enough 😀. The two sauces they give you are the typical sesame and some kind of butter sauce that's different from the usual mustard sauce and it was very good with the meats. Overall it was a nice experience. Recommended 👍.
Food was very good and plentiful. If go again would request a more lively hibachi chef. I think it makes the experience so much more memorable and fun. We had 2 people with us who had never been to hibachi and we had to apologize that it wasn't what we expected. Rice was served too soon and cold when entree and vegs. Were served. The chef did his job but not as lively as other tables. Maybe he was having an off night so I rate 4 stars.
Food and service were really good. Wonderful bartender and hostess. Red Sun in back seems closed and both Japanese and Chinese style food are served upfront at Sakura. Lovely atmosphere. We really liked being able to order both sushi and Chinese style dishes. Don't be surprised to be sent to bar even if right on time for reservation. Worked for us overall.
The food was ok, the service was average. The cook didn't seem to be on his game when we were there. I may be spoiled as I have a really great one in Erie PA that set the standard for me.
The food is delicious! I purchased a beer at the bar. I gave the bartender $20 for 1 beer, and she gave me $3 back. I asked her if the bottle of Sappora was $17 a bottle, and she said she forgot to give me a $10 dollar bill. Count your change, folks! This must have worked in their favor in the past!
The food was fabulous and the chef was great, we just had a hard time hearing over all the crowded noise. Our server, however, was not fabulous... We had to wait quite a while for drinks and then she brought one to the wrong table. Would have been a 5 star experience if she had tried just a little harder to take care of us.
This was a great place to have a family or a group gathering for Hibachi. They were entertaining and the food was great. Unlike some places the did cook the rice first and then the rest of the food instead of doing it all together which was nice because you were able to eat something while you waited. They were able to accommodate us we were a group of 10. We did we a short period of time for our cook to come over or the waitress bring our drinks. It was kind of weird sitting there while the other tables were being assisted. They never really told us why or apologize. Really though the only complaint we had was the price. This was a pretty pricey place. Especially since there are other places in Rochester New York that have better price for Hibachi.
The restaurant interior is on the older side, but the hibachi was tasty. Service was good!
Overall good experience, food was good, service was good. I would visit again. One word of caution to those that plan to visit with a group larger than 4 people, gratuity is automatically added to your bill and is formatted suspiciously like it is tax and below that there is an area for additional gratuity on the total that includes the automatic gratuity. Deceptive business practices in my opinion.
We went recently for my son’s birthday. Made reservations for 7:30. The chef didn’t show up to cook food until after 8:30. He was very friendly and so was our waitress. I’m just going to chalk it up as a very busy Saturday night and being understaffed. Very friendly staff and the food was excellent!
Interesting that the Chinese and Japanese restaurant joined forces. So they ask you what menu you want when you arrive. I was between the more expensive sushi sashimi combo and the chirashi and highly recommend the chirashi for quality and value. Lots of rice under the sashimi, coming out as a plate instead of a bowl. While the white tuna was a little off and the miso soup was a bit strong, the rest of the sashimi was good. And the tobiko over the rice was a nice touch.
We waited about 5 minutes, while the receptionist took a phone order. Dining area (non-hibachi) was small but nicely decorated. The waitress who seated us, with menus, apologized for the wait and asked about our day. Our waiter came about 10 minutes later and apologized for the delay. I ordered the sushi dinner w/eel and tobiko, no shrimp and no seeds. When he was bringing the eel out, he noticed the sesame seeds and took it back. GREAT CATCH! He apologized and told me my sushi dinner would be out shortly. I drank hot tea. My friend ordered the teriyaki (?) chicken. She was very pleased with the portions and texture of the meat and vegetables. Price including tip about $75-80. Two corrections, 1) refill the hot tea or switch to tea pots and 2) hire an extra waiter for the dining room. Overall, we were pleased with the ambiance, portions, presentation, and price. We would eat here again.
Absolutely lovely place, delicious shrimp hibachi! I only gave 4 stars as they are ridiculously expensive! I went there with my 6 yr old for lunch, I had water with my food, and the bill was still over $50! No kids menu, so you have to order adult priced sides for kids or an adult priced meal. There is a lot of food on the plate, so there was leftovers for 2 lunches.
Vegan menu!!! Unfortunately they will cook vegan hibachi in the back and not on the grill in front of you because of cross contamination. The server had them cook up vegan fried rice with vegan sauce and it was so good! The veggies were cooked and out on the side and I also ordered tofu with it, but it came with 4 pieces on the side too. My partner got a plate of vegan sushi and some of the avocado and mango were browned but were good. The hibachi chef had an extra piece of steak and threw it on the vegan sushi plate. Also FYI for vegans: none of the soups are vegan. They should use veggie broth to make the miso soup vegan at least.
They were short staffed due to multiple call offs on a Saturday night (both chefs and wait staff), yet the hostess seated the dining room full. We had reservations for 7pm and didn't get seated until after 9:30. She did at least buy our next round of drinks. Our waiter was attentive as he could have been, even though he was super busy. The bartenders were amazing! Our chef didn't do any of the flare moves, drowned everything in soy sauce, and overcooked the lobster. Others did, however. Overall, not the best experience.
I don't think it deserves to be so expensive unless we are running out of meat all over the world? It doesn't even taste that good either. It's like your everyday hibachi plate. Nothing special to make it cost so much. The waiter and cook were friendly but that's it. If the plates are $26-30+ bucks, it should be a very tasty meal and that was not the case here. Wasn't bad food but not worth coming back. I'd rather go to a Chinese buffet.
Great food at a high price. The Chef was great, but the cost for some of the meals can be quite high, although the portions are decent there are other options with better prices by comparison. The atmosphere however is very pleasant and the decorations are very nice and they can facilitate a very large group.
Belated birthdays and Mother's Day dinner. Wanted son's to expirence hibachi. Quite disappointed. Food was ok, very little seasoning and flavor for hibachi meal. Sushi great! Chef was boring, unengaging, probably said 20 words the whole time. A very basic "show". Did 1-2 neat things, but overall, very dull expirence. Waitress, we felt as if we were completely inconveniencing her by being there. She did keep our drinks full and wasn't unpleasant, just in the wrong line of work. Meal was $$$, added 2 sushi plates and fried calamari to the hibachi meal (4 Adult Meals). Good portions!! Did bring leftovers home. We always tip well, over 18% on a $244 bill, which wasn't really deserved, but I respect the job they do. Would not go back.
The staff is friendly and attentive. We did not need to ask for drink refills as our server noticed they were low and brought more. The restaurant is clean and you have the choice to seat in dining or hibachi. Even when ordering hibachi, you can sit in the dining area, a definite advantage if you're more introverted and don't want to have to play the games that often come with the hibachi experience. The rolls in the past has been very good and some of the best in the area. When we went today we noticed that the sushi rolls had more rice and less filling. This left us disappointed and feel that the 2 sushi rolls we ordered were not as flavorful. We also ordered an appetizer, Aged Tofu. It was good, but $10 for 4 pieces did not seem worth it. Overall it was okay. In the past I would have no problem paying the higher amount for the quality of the food. After today, I think I'll look for other sushi restaurants in the area before going back.
We enjoyed the atmosphere, and the food was good, but unfortunately we did not have an optimal experience. Our reservation was for 7:30, we arrived at 7:15, we were seated at 8:00. Nobody came to take our order (not even drinks) for another 30 mins. Once our chef arrived, he was awesome. Our sushi appetizer came late but was good. The waitress returned once, at the very end of the meal, to ask about drink refills, which we did not need at that point. The food was good but the wait ruined the experience. We left the restaurant around 10pm.
With a party booked over 4 weeks prior, I expected them to be more prepared. They were not engaging at all. I did not feel the fun like other places I have been. Little disappointing. Service seemed out of sorts as our third table had to wait to even start the cooking till the first two were done. Idk thought we should of all been served together.
The food was good, so that is the main thing. Service was slow from start...sat 20 min after our reservation then it was at least 45min from sitting to food getting started. The server came back twice at the most, took forever to bring check to us, and then come back for it, so we brought it up to the bar. It was nice to get in on short notice, and the food was good. The 2 hours spent there was little too much for me though, and probably never go back.
Food was just OK. Service was good on a busy night. Surprised that none of the normal Chinese accompaniments were offered, such as fried won ton noodles with hot mustard and duck sauce, fortune cookies, or hot tea. Won ton soup was excellent.
So this location clearly is a hit or miss( hands down). When you have people come from other countries you have to expect a certain level of they don’t really care about and this is just a job for financial gain. And look everyone needs a job so I’m not hating but this is the type of service that you receive, for the most part because every situation isn’t the same. It was very hot in the section we were sat at. So they either don’t have heat or Ac. They don’t care about it either, they kinda give you the look like just deal with it. They also had us waiting for a server for like 20-30 mins after being sat down and half our party got their server 5 mins after we arrived so they had to wait for us to eat. Now on the food side, It’s pretty damn good
This review is for not Hibachi menu. Purely for Sushi quality. I ordered sushi dinner for two. It came with miso soup and salad. Up to this point is standard. Then the sushi came and the display was good. One thing that concerned me was how the chef placed sliced oranges and lemon between the pieces of sushi. The taste of orange and lemon was so strong that I barely tasted sushi. When the chef does something like that I start to doubt the quality and freshness of the fish they use. Overall, sushi quality is average. Rice to fish ratio is unbalanced (too much rice), but it will fill you up. I felt like I was eating an all-you-can-eat level of sushi. For that, the price seems a bit too high. I hope they make more effort to make better tasting sushi here.
decent food, nice chef, hostess could not have been less attentive or less welcoming. She disappeared twice as she sped us to our tables, left us standing whle for a while. waiter didn't seem to like that some of our party did not order large meals, too many scowls, and too pricey for that kind of attitude all around. skip it
Prices doubled since we were there. We use to go all the time. Service isn’t good anymore, and food isn’t near what it use to be. We went last year and food was good but service wasn’t. So if clearly hasn’t gotten better. We will definitely be finding another hibachi place from now on.
We went to celebrate a birthday with 10 people like just about everyone else at the Hibachis. The waitress was excellent taking our food and drink orders. She made very good suggestions and we were off to a great start. Then the wait.... It must have been at least a half hour until the chef showed up. The filets we ordered rare were well done and not very good. Couldn't tell the difference between the taste of the steak vs the filet. One one of the combo orders the lobster was left off. One was order os chicken only they forgot the chicken. After everyone was served they offered to go back to the kitchen and get what was missing but that was ridiculous with everyone else already eating. We asked they just take off from the bill what they forgot.
This place was a swing and a miss for me. The night we were there the gas lines to the hibachi grills were not working. Okay stuff happens. Our food was prepared hibachi style in the kitchen and served. They did offer us a complimentary dessert for the inconvenience as watching the chef is supposed to be part of the experience. The food quality overall was just okay. Did not match the price point.
I’m a big fan of hibachi style restaurants but I am not a fan of this one. Decor on the outside was messy and unkept. The main dining area was lovely and quiet but the hibachi cook in front of you area was loud and cramped. Once seated, my cousin and I were in the path of anyone coming through including large carts filled with dirty plates and food. We got bumped into almost every time they passed which was frequent. Took well over an hour after we were seated to even start the cooking while we enjoyed lukewarm bottles of beer and an an order of sushi they got wrong. These tables are way too close together and they crammed a lot of people into them. I don’t think they had enough chefs because every table waited at least that long to get they food started. Ambience is lacking, bright lighting and tired wallpaper and we faced a large open coat closet with no doors. I will not return. Food was pretty good other than a fatty piece or two of steak but not worth it for the experience. Go to Umis or Plum Garden.
We had a 6 pm reservation, sat down at 6:15. My wife ordered a tea and we ordered our meal at 6:20. We waited for someone to show up to cook the meal....no one so my wife ordered another tea and asked if there was another charge. He said no and rolled his eyes as he walked away. He was also very sarcastic after not getting a bigger tip. After sitting there for 45 min another person in our party went up to complain. We finally got the chef to cook our food. We will not be back.
Went their last Saturday. Had a reservation for 8 people at 5:30. We were sat on time. However, we did not get the check until 7:15, and that was after I had to go up and ask for it. We finished eating by 630 and had to wait 45 minutes for the check. The waitress never brought us any refills. It was by far the worst habachi service I have ever had, and I have been going to habachi for over 30 years. Food tasted great. Maybe they just had a bad night. Also I thought the food was a bit expensive but I think everything now and days is expensive.
Service was a little slow when we got there because only one server. Prices for the food we ordered was over priced. Over $450 for one piece of a limited Sushi menu, The sushi I got had very small pieces of fish. Mushroom soup price is out rages for a small bowl of water with 1/2 a mushroom and a hint of onion. The rice dish was mush like it was over cooked. To make matters worse the men's toilet was disgusting. The squid was pretty good. Other people in my party complained that the they were overloaded with veggies and not enough protein. My spicy yellowtail sushi was terrible. not spicy and couldn't find the tuna. Would not recommend
Not an enjoyable hibachi place at all, not worth the money or time
You smell the rancid oil when you come in. Other places don't smell like that. It should have been the first and last sign to get out. Every dish our party of 4 ordered left us with regret. The food was awful AND overpriced. The waiter was kind and the ambiance was beautiful.
The only reason I give a 2 star is because the food was actually good. But the service was terrible. Had a reservation for my bday at 8 we sat for almost an hour until the chef came out. The chef himself kept messing up our orders and then for my young toddler daughter to eat with me I got up charged for sharing my plate with her. They wouldn’t have gotten a tip for the services but then of course they force a tip which is probably why they perform the way they do. Will probably never return again I would have left but already had the whole fam out ready to eat
I may be bias because I have had amazing hibachi but my daughter and I both had very bland food. They didn’t use butter to cook. Very little of any seasoning the food was just basically cooked. I will reheat it and season it at home. It’s awful especially for the money. The waitress didn’t come back to give me a refill of my water til it was time for the check. So after bringing the soup and salad hadn’t seen her til then. I guess because we had a huge party size she felt she was going to get a tip regardless so why do anything. Very poor experience. I will never come back.
Very disappointed in the service and food. Our server was rude she had an attitude every time she talked to us, threw our straws and chopsticks down at the table at us and even the plates, my daughter looked at me with big eyes when she slammed the plate down infront of her asking me what she did wrong for the server to be mad at her! I had to ask if we could order drinks after she took our food order because she didn't ask, just walked away. When our cook came out he was great however the food was awful! Everything was so bland and dry. No flavor and over cooked. We spent over $200 on 3 people, one being my 10 year old who was celebrating her birthday and our food was not close to worth it. I wish I took pictures of our sushi and our meals because it was just awful. Very disappointed we spent a lot of money and couldnt even eat our food. I do not recommend this place and I will not be going back to this establishment. I will stick with Sakura Japanese steak house & sushi bar in Canandaigua, NY they have the best sushi, hibachi and service!
We made reservations in the tatami room to be able to have an in-depth conversation, the room is not as it appears in pictures and was very loud next to the hibachi tables and the door never closed. The waitress was very annoyed with us from the moment we sat down. She was rushing us at every step of the meal. The entire staff were stacking chairs loudly, mopping floors and vacuuming 45 min before the posted close time. It was very evident they wanted everyone out of the restaurant. I would not recommend this tatami room to others and the service really soured the experience. For $60 per person you can find 18 other restaurants that will be a much better experience
I've had several different experiences there. More bad than good. I was thinking of going there tonight and giving them another chance but after reading these reviews, clearly nothing has improved. I appreciate the pasta before I drop another 300 bucks there!! I hope people start paying attention to posts so this stops happening. Take care!!
It took an HOUR before our hibachi chef got to our table to cook. The fried rice was good but the steak tasted old and the chicken was salty. Our waiter was great and very attentive. All in all I would not come back.
Ordered for take-away. The food was fine, solid mid-teir sushi, but I was waiting more than half an hour past the promised pickup time for the food to be ready. Now, this was a large order, and I don't fault them for how long it took to make the food. What bothers me is the complete lack of communication regarding a realistic pickup time and how extremely disrespectful it felt.
We waited more than 20 minutes for a server to even greet us. Came over and immediately starting taking our food order. Completely skipping over drinks. The “chef” had to go back to the kitchen twice for his own mistakes. Half of our steaks were cooked to the wrong temperature. Ordered medium rare and received well done.
Took over 20 minutes to get drinks. They came after the salad and soup. Typically, the hibachi is great here but this time we sat on the restaurant side and I’ll never make that mistake again. All our entrees were cold when they were brought to us. I’ve never been disappointed like that here. Can’t say I’d return or recommend to anyone.
My last experience was not great, they absolutely need a deepcleaning of the establishment and improve the timing of seating their tables so next time my party doesn’t wait 2 hours before the hibachi chef even BEGINS cooking. Other guests in the hibachi room were blaring their phone music and audio without consideration of others and no one approached them… ask them to turn it off or be dismissed simple as that. The same person had their child running around like their personal playground. Overall, go to Umi’s.
Unfortunately it's really gone downhill with the service and quality. Sat 20 minutes waiting to order in the freezing cold. We could actually see our breath. Whatever you do, DO NOT let them seat you by the metal escape door in winter. Even the workers know it's cold in this corner. After ordering, drinks took 40 minutes to arrive (bottled beer and a martini). The martini was underwhelming too. The waitress was extremely inattentive and running off as soon as she could. Someone seated at our table ended up pouring water refills for half the table because the waitress left after only refilling two cups and never returned. Found a sharp bone in my chicken (surprising because it's breast). 8pm reservation & seated but they didn't start cooking until 9 (soup came around 8:35). Really sad because it used to be an awesome experience. It's still fun, but horribly slow service and high prices for the quality.
Absolutely horrible. Waiter was no where to be found majority of our dinner and on top of that he forgot to turn on our grill. So after waiting for a chef for over an hour already we had to wait an additional 20 min for the grill to heat up. THEN we finally ate dinner at 10pm, our chicken was raw, our rice was hard and there was a huge hair wrapped into my boyfriends vegetables. By far the worst food and service I have ever experienced. AND we still had to pay for the horrendous and way over priced dinner because the manager and owner were nowhere to be found and wouldn’t answer their own employees phone calls.
We came here on a slow Wednesday night for hibatchi and literally waited 2 hours before our food came out. We sat at 6pm , got a salad at 7 and still had no waiter come out to take our Orders Starving. Angry. Upset. No one stopped by to even apologize for such a long wait and we debated just getting up and walking out but only waited due to the fact that we were starving, we decided to stick it out. Not a fan. Will never return here again. This is my first time here and not a great experience. I will never come back to this place again. No food is worth waiting 2 hours for ! Worst customer service ever. don’t come here! Unless you want your time wasted !!! Much rather would have went to Kobe in Greece. Very disappointed
I came as a walk in and asked for the menu. When I was ready to order I spoke to the lady in the front who just ignored me the whole time. I stood there for 10 minutes while she was on the tablet and picked up a call. I am still sitting here with no service. Someone else came and spoke to her and she mastered but when I spoke to her she ignored me the whole time.
I went there last night and the service was very slow. It took us 30 minutes to get our drinks and another 30 minutes for them to come cook our food. At the end the waitress rushed us to eat our food by giving us boxes 15 minutes into our dinner. Then we get the bill and the gratuity is already added when their policy clearly states gratuity added on when 6 or more people and we only had 4! When I spoke to the waitress about it she brushed it off and still charged us gratuity and charged our card twice at that!
I went for dinner tonight. Due to not having a reservation. We were seated in the regular dine -in area to eat Habachi style brought to our table. Our waitress was very rude. The food was absolutely disgusting. The bill was $108 for Chinese take-out stacked on a plate. The money was the least of our problems or we would stayed home. I did expect good food and a waitress that would've tried to a bit more attentive. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
We've been here many times and always had a great experience, until this time. the greeter seemed very nice but the positive experience ended there. First we were seated on top of another family when there were 2 empty seats at the table. Then we were never asked if we wanted a drink. 3rd the chef was pretty basic with none of the normal flare/show except the volcano. the food was typical but the show was bare minimum. 4th we weren't given the option of chopsticks, honestly the waitress seemed like she didn't want anything to do with us. 5th the waitress took a very long time to come to get our payment after bringing the bill. The waitress was rushed and I forgot to ask for a side of yummy sauce to take home for my leftovers. I did catch someone's attention in the kitchen and managed to get it though. I honestly felt like we were assembly lined through the place. Even my 8 year old daughter said "that was not a good experience."
We had an awful experience at this place today and for certain it will be our last time spending our money there. We had an incredibly rude waitress. Her name was “Min” she was super annoyed with us and we didn’t understand why. We didn’t even order anything or ask for anything specific to be treated the way she was treating us. We got our food, and I asked for a spicy mayo, she walked away before I could even finish my sentence and didn’t even say “I’ll be right back, no problem” or anything. She seemed annoyed I even asked. She had an attitude the entire time, eventually my grandmother asked her if there was something we were doing that was bothering her, because she seemed so annoyed with us. She said “no, nothing.” When we got the bill and cashed out, we realized that she charged us for chicken gyozas that we ordered and never received. I had to go up to her 15 mins later because she wouldn’t return to our table. I had to let her know they made a mistake. She fixed it, but what an awful mistake to top off our horrible experience. You would have thought we were dinning there for free the way she was bothered by us!! The sushi was horrible, the rice wasn’t edible. The hibatchi was OK. Even if the food was great, which it wasn’t, I would never return solely on the customer service experience. Try elsewhere before going there, geez!!!!
I had a reservation for hibachi with my extended family including 3 young children. We arrived 10 minutes early, they sat us after 25 minutes then we waited over an hour for a cook to be available for our table, it was 1.5 after our reservation time before the cook arrived which with young kids is very long. The bathrooms were disgusting, pipes for the sink laying on the ground in a bucket, floor sticky and discolored with toilet bowl cleaner laying on the ground at the entrance, two toilets clogged. If you can’t clean an area that guests go I can’t imagine the kitchen. We had a birthday for the evening and instead of the fried ice cream dessert usually given (and given to tables right before us) we were given a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Sakura used to be my favorite sushi spot but I will not be returning.
I probably should wait to write this as I am really hangry. Had a 7pm reservation. Finally got seated at 750pm. Now I understand things get busy, parties finish and then hang out, whatever. The real reason for this snotty review was after a 50 minute wait on reservation they seriously felt it was acceptable to cramp 2 extra seats at the table. All adults so the idea of having to sit at a corner of the table in discomfort for a 5 person party that with food and drink would likely have spent north of $200 is completely unacceptable. All diners in our small party deserve a proper seat with a comfortable position at the table, not one where it is difficult to reach your plate at the point! updated: Gave it another shot on February 28. Much better (and what we were accustomed to experience. Seat at 7pm for a 7pm reservation. Waitstaff very attentive and service was fast an professional. Everyone has a bad day - good to see this place remains an option for outstanding hibachi food in Rochester.
Absolutely horrible experience! Made reservation for daughter’s birthday and was told to arrive by 7pm for hibachi seating. We waited until 7:50pm to even have our order taken. By 8pm we still weren’t served. The hibachi chef showed up an hour late while 8 of us had to sit watching the chef’s cook at the other tables. Ironically, at 8pm when our chef began to pour the hot oil on the hibachi, the FIRE ALARM went off! The deafening, piercing siren was the last straw to the sorry conclusion of our visit. As all guests were evacuated to wait in the parking lot, we exited to our vehicle!! We passed the fire trucks on our way out. My poor daughter crying on the way home!! This was inexcusable. I hate to even give them one star…
Terrible! $30 for one person for chicken n rice are you kidding me !! Never again
Only giving this place a one star because the waitress was very nice- other than that this place deserves 0 stars. The atmosphere was unsettling- not a normal exciting comforting warm welcoming atmosphere like other hibachi restaurants- decor was out of date , nothing seemed cleaned, and I'm pretty sure my chair was going to eventually break (I only weigh 135) , the chairs were insanely wobbly. - I tried to remain optimistic. The salad dressing is not your normal ginger salad dressing that you'd usually get from other hibachi restaurants- it tastes like dirty dish water (I'd imagine that's how dirty dish water would taste) - the waitress was super nice and brought me another salad without the dressing and old oil on the side. The salad was not fresh and you can tell it came from a contaminated refrigerator just by the taste of it. You have to pay an additional $4.99 for hibachi noodles- which they're not even real hibachi noodles- it's literally angel hair pasta and is hard by time it's served because angel hair pasta is NOT meant to be cooked like that- it was horrific. Save your $4.99 on the noodles that they do not supply like majority hibachi places do. The prices are absolutely insane for their poor quality food, environment, and service that you receive- overly priced for what they offer- they are NOT worth that much money. The cheft didn't entertain or talk to anyone at the table- it was pure awkward silence, he cooked quick and bounced- I go to hibachi for a show and entertainment, fun and authentic Japanese food and I definitely did not get any of that from this place. l asked for my steak to be medium well and was given it rare, the inside of my steak was still cold. 😑 My chicken was undercooked and gross. The shrimp were bad because they had that fishy taste to them- probably the worst shrimp I've ever had and definitely was not fresh. Save your money and seek elsewhere- this hibachi restaurant just isn't it, and the health department really needs to make a visit.
I never leave reviews but this was honestly one of the worse restaurants experience that I have ever had!!! We drove all the way from Buffalo to meet family for dinner! There was 10 of us. When we arrived the fire department was just leaving because the fire alarms were going off. We had reservations and still had to wait to be seated. Then when we were seated we waited about 40- 50 minutes for the chef to come out. The waitress was not friendly at all and never came back to check on our drinks. Also, when you asked her a question she just would reply in a very unfriendly manner. After waiting 40-50 minutes for the chef to come out the fire alarm went off again and we had to evacuate. We had our 11 month old with us. Then after returning back in the chef was not very friendly or fun at all. The rice had to be reheated and the waitress never came back to check on us. The food was also very, very salty. We also had to ask for forks and the chef replied... "Well go get your waitress and get it yourself." Overall, it was terrible. They should raise thier expectations and quality of experience/service for the price that they charge.
I went there last night with a group of 6, right off the bat the waitress rolled her eyes while my friend was ordering her hibachi, after that she filled all of our glasses of water except that same friend, literally this girl is one of the nicest girls I’ve ever met. My cousin told her when we first got there that she had a seafood allergy, the waitress said ok I’ll cook it in back, when my cousins food comes out there was seafood on her plate. I took it back to the kitchen and said explained how my cousin told her she was allergic to seafood and she has it on her plate, the waitress then told me we never told her that, I then asked her, then why out of 6 of us did you only cook her hibachi in back. Also the one friend that she randomly had a problem with asked for water, she came back 20 minutes later and was trying to fill our waters up except hers again. I could literally see her in the kitchen stuffing her face the whole night. The food was great, the chef was great, but we will not be going back again. Have never had such a rude waitress in my life. Everyone else, good luck 😆
New to the area and wanted to take my family of 5 for hibachi on my wife’s birthday, so was excited to try Sakura. What an utter disappointment on every level. We arrived before our 7 pm reservation for hibachi and had to wait over an hour to be seated. It was a Thursday and the restaurant was not crowded at all. No one explained to us what was going on until we were seated, and the server explained that they only had two hibachi chefs on staff that night and the hostess way overbooked. So we sat for another 30 minutes at the hibachi grill watching other people eat. We’ve now been there for 90 minutes. No manager explanation. The overworked chef finally arrived, and was clearly exhausted. He did the routine but halfheartedly and hurriedly so he could go on to the next table. Part of the expense for hibachi is the entertainment. The food was average at best and expensive as others have said. We’ve eaten hibachi in Orlando, Boston, Toronto, and Japan, as well as midsized towns at average Japanese steakhouses, and this was more expensive and less quality than anywhere we’d eaten before. To make this miserable experience even worse, my son who has a restricted diet simply wanted a bowl of Udon and nothing else, but they charged him the $23 full menu price even though he had no meat or vegetables. And the serving was small so he ordered another bowl, so $46 for two bowls of $4 noodles. I tried to find the manager to ask for some reasonable reductions in the bill but he was clearly avoiding people and pacing back and forth, and as we’d been there for more than 2 hours we were in a hurry to leave. Maybe this was a bad night for them but we are the customers and they knew they were having a bad night and should have been more proactive. The ambiance was average at best too; a bit dingy. Why would we eat here again when there’s other hibachi nearby?
First and foremost I did attend during busy hours so keep that in mind. Me and my date decided to get hibachi today and unfortunately we chose here. First issue was the cook taking over an hour to even start. Then we where seated within a group who wasn't very welcoming. The waitress wasn’t very nice she asked everyone in the group what they would like to drink but us. As well with the chef. The manager was very nice and understanding I just wish we had a better experience. Food also wasn’t the best.
We used to like this place a lot. But their prices have skyrocketed and their service and food have gone downhill. We went here for dinner and were placed in a small back room, where, apparently, it was easy for the waitress to forget about us. We waited so long for our food, it was lukewarm to downright cold when she dumped it off. And I mean, she dumped it off and ran. We didn't have time to tell her some of the items were missing. Like bowls for the soy sauce for our sushi, gluten free soy sauce for the GF person - which she was aware of when it was ordered. One sushi dish was spicy tuna - but came dry, with no spicy mayo; another person needed a knife to cut what looked like microwaved grill-marked chicken. Since she never came back, one of the guys in our party ended up actually going in to the kitchen to get the GF soy sauce; and the meal was just about done before we saw her again for the spicy mayo. No one at our table had a good experience - what we were served was not worth the large expense. I actually feel more sorry for the people that were seated next to us. They made 9 people sit at a round table that was built for, at most, 6 people. This party was not happy - you could tell by the looks on their faces.
Had reservations at 7:00, arrived on time, waited to get seated for another 20 minutes with another party all to wait until 7:40 just to get waters and not checked on again. Ended up leaving after my straws were thrown to me, was absolutely not worth it, another party waited over an hour for just soup and salad. This place was great 10 years ago, not now.
***VEGETARIANS BEWARE*** We asked specifically atleast a dozen times for them to keep our vegetables separated from the meat and cooked first. They assured us they could. I said if they couldn’t that’s no problem. We would leave. Lathered the vegatables and sautéed right in the meat. Then slapped them on our plate before we could stop them. Had to throw away 80% of the food. She tried to make it right and offered to cook more vegetables in the back. Didn’t have half of what was in the hibachi mix and they were totally RAW. $200 later and I didn’t even get what I ordered. They still made me pay. I did. Because I’m not gonna cause a huge debate over it. But it was bad news bears and where we started off our experience excited and loving everything wanting to come back we will never set foot in this establishment again.
I ordered sushi for take out and the salmon was bad and I was shocked when I tried to eat it. I couldn’t even eat my food and their rolls are more expensive than most other local places. I used to love the sushi here years ago but the quality of the sushi is not what it used to be.
Called in advance to get a reservation for 6:30PM. She told me she could get us in, and she would see us then. Mind you, the reservation was for 2 people. We ended up driving almost an hour as we had went shopping out at the outlet in Waterloo this day. We arrived about 10 mins early, to which we were greeted by a woman with a notebook in front of her. My name, the number “2” and my phone number were crossed out. I told her I had a reservation, she told me we would have to “figure that out.” She then left and came back and told me she could not seat us because she was full. Overall, just felt like my time was wasted and she made no effort to mend the situation. We ended up leaving and going up the street to Plum Garden- whom I would STRONGLY recommend! Great customer service, food, and atmosphere. The complete opposite of what I experienced here.
I ordered seafood fried rice. It was over $50. Which I understand. But my problem is the rice was SUPER wet. It was as if they added too much water to the rice. I call it replace it because this rice was just no it. They offer to replace it with two boxes of plain fried rice. I asked for the amount of what I paid for. My step father worked there and I wanted to support the business but the lady seem as if she didn't understand anything I was asking for. She blamed the condensation for the box but it's not that. The entire rice was mushy like baby food. This is disgusting.
