Opinions de El Tapatio New Braunfels
Food was really good and the fresh corn tortillas were on point!
Came out here w/my gorgeous daughter's and my handsome grandson for a late lunch. Everything was delicious as always. We all left happy them w/ full bellies and well myself and my boyfriend had a Big Late Home cooked breakfast that I prepared so I had my self a Nicely Dressed Cold Budweiser. I also was happy 😊
I live in Wimberley but I had some shopping to do in New Braunfels. I decided to grab something to eat before I headed home. I've been going to different Mexican food restaurants around Texas looking for the best Huevos Rancheros so I pulled into the Taqueria El Tapatio. Once I walked in I could see they spent their decorations budget on the outside of the building..:) However, the people were friendly and I was waited on right away. The Huevos Rancheros don't come with bacon so I ordered it as a side. The place isn't fancy but the food was great and it comes out fast. The hash browns were nice and tender. I just had water to drink and my tab was under 7 buck. I'll go back.
Wanted a quick bite and ordered 3 tacos. They where delicious. Only $6 and I would easily agree to pay over twice that. Quality AND quantity for a more then fair price. We will be back
The food, atmosphere and staff were absolutely amazing! The food was authentic and every thing on the plate was great. The staff was courteous and attentive, food came out fast and the restaurant was a fun place!
First time here and I loved it. The food was awesome the waitresses were very friendly and very helpful. Because we had 2 crying babies and they were really friendly . I would keep going there
While the photos show a full dining room, right now, that's not the case. However, they are still making wonderful food. Fast service, good prices and nice folks. Go support them if you can.
In addition to food quality and taste, you learn a lot about a restaurant by how they maintain their restrooms. In regards to the mens, it was very clean and fully stocked with soap and paper products. Add to that good food at good prices and you have a customer who will return.
Everything was great. The only thing we didn't like was the homemade hot sauce. It wasn't spicy at all. It was very watered down.
Went during the snow storm on Thursday evening when no one else was open, so there was a long line .....DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I got the Texas plate and the enchiladas were so perfect along with the carne guisada and it was perfect to season with salt for presence... SOOO GOOD OH MY GOSH!!! We also got a lot more but I definitely recommend it all everything we had was delicious, love that they were open tonight also! They definitely will have my business from here on out!
HUGE, delicious breakfast tacos, with a drive thru!!! I was getting tacos for 10 people, so I ordered a total of 22 tacos & a large Chips & Queso. I thought I might not have ordered enough but I was entirely wrong. We took the extra tacos to Schlitterbahn with us and had them again for lunch, not one kid complained. 😁
Food and staff are excellent. To tell the truth, I was surprised! We've been twice and have not been disappointed. Met a couple that have been eating there for many years that knew all the staff through visits. Wonderful! 😁😁😁
I ordered two enchiladas (one cheese, one enchilada verde) a la carte for lunch. I didn't want a heavy meal. They tasted great! Water came in the largest cup. Few restaurants serve water in large portions. The waitress was great! It was easy to get her attention when we needed anything. And prices were reasonable.
i always come here for breakfast with my friend. we love it here, staff is super friendly. very good prices for the quality of food. lunch plates are amazing! definitely would recommend
Great Mexican food. I have had breakfast, and supper. It has always been good. Clean restaurant. Very inexpensive.
I always go drive-thru but they have the best al pastor. I tend to get the torta w jalapenos toreado. I also can't go by there and not get their shrimp cocktail. It's SO good! They pack so much in the. Their barbacoa is also not that greasy compared to most tex mex restaurants.
Delicious food, especially the homemade corn tortillas. The salsa and guacamole was also excellent. We drove around trying to find a place that didn't require us an hour to wait and we really lucked out here. The portion sizes are huge, easy to split unless you are very hungry.
Gorditas are huge and not greasy 🫶 love it here
It was about 2 o'clock on Saturday, Krauses had a 45-minute wait, and the Downtowner's kitchen closed at 2 and wouldn't open again until 4. This was the highly rated $10-20 restaurant nearest, so we went there and the portions were big and tasty, and the staff was nice and chill (the barbacoa (BBQ) steak was soo good)
I was under the weather yesterday so my wife picked me up some chicken soup it was absolutely delicious. I tired some of her burrito it was 🔥! Very good Horchata the rice was great beans are great. Highly recommend already told some friends about it.
This restaurant has always had such great food and employees who seem to really care. I've never had a bad experience in the 20 or so visits I've had. Y'all are appreciated!
Tonight was my first time ordering take out at El Tapatio. The moment I first walked in, I was so impressed. The waitress was so kind, service was fast and portion size was generous. Above all, the food was amazingly satisfying!! I am glad I found this gem in the heart of New Braunfels.
This place has been my go-to for tacos. If you are expecting to be satisfied with the taco department. Right here. 😋
Excellent place to eat with a great atmosphere. I plan to visit again in the near future.
Delicious breakfast before heading on a 3hr drive back home. The waitress was nice explaining how big the pancakes were as we ordered some for the kids so we changes the order based of her info. She was right. Our food was delicious and well cooked. Everyone left happy 😁
This place has been consistent for the last 15 years we’ve been going. Great food, friendly fast service and clean! Good job!
I eat here 2-3 times a week since 2017 the service and food is the best, and the price is reasonable. The lunch special menu is my favorite with I believe 14 different options so it never gets old. This place is top notch and I often recommend to other friends and to contractors to dine here. The sweet tea is also amazing and have never once ever gotten upset stomach here before ever nor has my friends as well not even once. Things are always tidy and cleanly.
Best barbacoa available in the entire area!!! It's always our go to.
Really good loved the chips and dip nice and spicy. I tried a few things the staff was extremely nice and fast everyone had a smile on their face. The food was great homemade taste and i didnt feel like i ate too much. The sweet tea was really good. The chicken was nice and juicy not dry like a few places ive tried. Overall this is one of the best Mexican restaurants around. Go give them a try you wont be disappointed.
Went for German food and ended up eating here. So glad we did. The El Pastor was so tender and delicious. Best I've had hands down. The server was awesome. Our food arrived to table fairly quickly and with no errors to our orders. My only critic would be the salsa offered with the chips was very spicy. Definitely not kid friendly.
They had music playing, a lot of room for small or big parties. We had 13 with us. The staff was nice and went above to assist us. The food was very good, tex-mex. Huge portions and again the food did not disappoint!! They also have a drive thru, and their menu had pictures for each item. Which made it even harder to choose.
I used to stop here frequently before the covid quarantines. When they were finally lifted I went here once and I thought the food was mediocre and have stayed away until about a week ago. I was pleasantly surprised by the price of this meal and also the great flavors. Perhaps they got a different cook I don't know. But very pleased and have been recommending this place to other local people that I encounter.
Second time going here w the family 6 or more ! We all lived it and the staff is friendly and very clean !
Staff was great, the food was amazing. I've eaten Texmex for 29 years and I eat it as frequently as those eating with me will allow. I thought the salsa had a nice kick and tasted very, fresh like it was made with quality ingredients. Queso was also very good. Plates were enormous, I'm a large person, and I ate on mine 3 separate times. Tortillas were homemade and pretty good as well.
Really good food. My Taco salad was was a homemade shell and you don't find that often anymore.
This place makes me feel like home. Free salsa w the food. The tacos are awesome! Try the barbacoa! And they have frozen margaritas! Great pricing!
This place offers great food and service! This is definitely a must come visit place if you are in town. I definitely recommend this place to everyone.
We were initially not sure of this place because so few people were eating there. But we took a chance on it. This place was great! It was clean, inviting, and the wait staff was courteous and efficient. We had a hard time deciding what to order off the huge menu that pictured most every dish. And the food did not disappoint! We had chalupas and mini tacos. Yum! And the flan for dessert was the best I've had in a long time! Our first time there. We will be back!
There are several places downtown or near downtown New Braunfels. This Mexican restaurant is priced right and has consistent food offerings. Our favorite aspect of this location is that the staff is exceptionally kind and welcoming. We have always had everyone greet us and thank us for coming back. They even celebrated my work colleague's birthday with Charro hat, singing, and dessert--without even being asked. They are such a delight. You don't see this very often. We mostly go there on weekdays for lunch, but this same service standard is seen on weekends and late afternoons/dinners. Worth a try!
I recently dined at El Tapatio restaurant in New Braunfels, TX, and I must say it was an outstanding experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and quick service. The chips and salsa were absolutely perfect, setting the stage for a delicious meal ahead. What impressed me the most was not just the tasty food but also the great value for money. The portions were generous, and every bite was flavorful. I highly recommend El Tapatio to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience in New Braunfels. Five stars all around! And you should definitely bring some quarters to play the coin pusher game, a ton of fun! Come visit us in Michigan Fabi, thanks for making the trip memorable! 🌮 🥰
We ventured into this small town on our way to S. Padre and what a treat! First of all, the little downtown area the restaurant is in was so cute! Great place to take a stroll. Anyway, food was delicious and the servings were huge and the prices were extremely affordable! We fed a party of 10 with what we usually pay for a party of 4 at the big city where we live! I had the pozole and it was amazing! My husband had the shrimp and streak and it came out sizzling on the platter and was great. The shrimp tasted fresh. The flour tortillas are very thick but have good flavor. Out waiter was amazing as well. He made us feel very welcomed and had us laughing. We will definitely be back during another one of our road trips!
Great place to eat after being out on the river. Portions are big, salsa is great, everything is flavorful. Big cups to quench your thirst. Great selection of Mexican treats (empanadas, palatas, cookies, conchas, etc) Pepsi/Dr.Pepper fountain drinks. The service is amazing, every person on staff was friendly and quick.
Reasonably good food and the convenience of a drive through. The tortillas were homemade and delicious, the tacos were quite nice (needed salt), but the Mexican rice was tasteless and gluggy. I'll probably be back, but I'm not sure it'll ever become a craving with so many other Mexican restaurants nearby. But, I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3 for fairly fast service in the drive through.
The staff is always wonderfully friendly! They know what we generally order and have our beverages brought to the table before we even have to ask for it. Great place, try it out.
They had very friendly service, great prices, and delicious food! They could use a bit more atmosphere. I appreciated that they were wearing masks and created a socially distanced dining space! I had the enchiladas verdes with chicken that must have been cooked for days it was so flavorful and tender!
Ordered take-out. I got the cheese enchiladas beans and rice and a horchata. It was good but not great. Price was a little high but not unreasonable. Not much to say about tge atmosphere as I did not dine in
I only rated El Tapatio as a 4 since it was so cold and my food cooled off quickly. I'm sure that if you're working in the kitchen, or waiting tables - you get really ware. I'll go back, their Migas is great!
Food and service has always been good over the last few visits. Really wish they would be more generous with their salsa considering the price for a breakfast taco has doubled.
Just a great place for real Mexican food! Good prices, super service. The drive through is really convenient and efficient when you're in a hurry. Tends to get crowded on weekends.
We went there in a big group of people and their service was great and quick. The food was decent but the veggies inside the Quesadillas were having more oil than usual. The salsa and guacamole were good. The serving portion was huge in size. The ambience is more suitable for a quick bite.
El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant is good—Mexican, yes; taste, a mix of yes and no. It’s one of those spots where it is what it is, nothing over the top but definitely worth trying. Would I return? Yes. Anything negative? Not really. In fact, it’s better than a lot of its competitors out there. Solid choice when you’re in the mood for Mexican food without the fuss.
When it comes to “near downtown” local spots, there are so many wonderful options. As a newbie to NBTX, I have to say that we sincerely appreciate the kindness and welcoming spirit of the staff at Taqueria El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant on South Seguin. They even surprised my buddy on his birthday (singing and providing a cake and charro sombrero!). Food has always been consistent and such a good value being so close to downtown. Fun place for us. I enjoy their milanesa and chile relleno.
We went after workout at the gym, there was not much restaurant late at night besides fast foods. Glad we stopped by, photo taken was only one dish and enough to feed two of us. Only small zonk is not much chicken or other meat, it's mostly hotdog. But it was flavorful to satisfy the hunger after the workout.
Typical low key mexican restaurant. Food was good. Burrito was huge and the cheese enchaladas were very cheesy. Chips were a little thick and greasy....but good. Homemade tortillas. Very reasonable prices. Our 1st visit and will return. All the plates looked good that went by. Appears to be large breakfast crowd. Will try breakfast next time. Server was very prompt and friendly.
I have eaten here since 2008. I’ve seen servers come and go. But the last “upgrade” was management a couple of years back, this is when they went electronic, raised the prices and the food changed. I still go there, I guess outta habit but they ain’t what they use to be. The best example I have is their menudo. It use to be hearty, taste full and the bowl was filled to complement a hungry guy. Today their menudo is off, expensive or over priced and it’s mostly caldo (soup). I really complain after every meal every time I go there now. It’s a shame. Restaurants don’t go broke, people make them go broke. Good luck!
We went for a late dinner, the environment was great, nice and clean. Service was good. But the food was not up to par, the chips they give for the salas, where old or over cooked, had some tacos the Tortillas were sad, hard, carne guisada was bland, Barbacoa was dry and bland, for the prices they charge for Mexican food I would think the food should be better.
Dropped the ball somewhere with our order tonight. 30+ min. No big deal, it happens. Food wasn't poisonous nor was it amazing. Good portion size. Staff courteous when we did see them.Go for lunch with boys? Sure. Wow your latest "Squeeze" for an enchanting evening of fine dining? No. But, the flat screen tv set to "aquarium" display may peak their interest for a second.
As far as Mexican food goes for Jalisco it was good but not spectacular. For the price it was worth it very reasonable and the staff was friendly
Decent menudo great attentive service but 66$ for three people three beers and two Horchatas… plus a service fee of 1.94 for using credit card … never have I paid this much for a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant in new braunfels … el sazon 10x better and a lot cheaper… was wondering why they weren’t busy on a Sunday mid morning.. and now I know why… lower your prices and you might see my return …
We came during lunch hours. Everything started off great until a group of 6 guys who seemed to work road construction (they were wearing roadgiard vest, shirts, etc) sat down & ordered after we did. They got their order before we did. ???? Then we got ours shortly after there's but my enchiladas were barely warm. When I cut into them, the shredded cheese was not even melted. I was disappointed. I get things happen but to get our food (there was only 2 of us) after a table of 6 guys got theirs first then my food seemed rushed to my table just made for a not-so-great service. Overall, 3.5 stars.
Great place to grab a quick bite. Nothing extraordinary but it's good. Location is optimal, haven't been for breakfast, but I have my go to's so likely wont. But perfect spot for a quick lunch.
Always terrible with drive thru & ordering online. Seems that if they don't know they will just put whatever instead of actually trying to put in the right food. never really remember crunchy tacos looking like enchiladas but not even being made like enchiladas. But that's always when ordering online or just going drive thru. Eating in is pretty good tho, orders usually Always right when you eat in & service is pretty chill.
I have recently used the drive thru twice, both times they got my order wrong. The second time they were confused what i ordered at the pick up window so i repeated my order and when i check it (2 tacos) they had it wrong so they"fixed" it. I left thinking they got it right the third time, got home and the order was wrong. I ordered 2 different tacos, they gave me 2 of the same thing. On top of that, not very good. Won't be back.
Food was awful! Ordered the enchiladas with crispy taco that was undercooked. The enchiladas tortillas were hard and cheese was disgusting. I will not b returning. Took a very long to get our food even though place was almost empty.
I cannot understand all the 5 star reviews of this place. I've been here several times, and 4/5 times my food was overcooked and flavorless. The "fajitas" have no grill marks on them, and are obviously sauteed, (or hell, maybe even boiled for how tough they were). Even the rice is cooked down to almost mush. They also got my order wrong. I recently ordered the fried fish (asking for it by number- 33- so there would be no mistake) and it came out grilled. It was OK, but not what I wanted, and the Molcajete had shrimp instead of sausage as per the menu, and no nopales at all (to-go order- I didn't feel like driving back to complain). Service is always nice; no comment on atmosphere since I've only ever gotten food to-go. The puerco guisada is the only thing I've ever had here that was good, and they've taken it off the menu. I guess quality food doesn't fit their branding.
Good food, fair prices. I like this place. But sometimes the employees seem to be lazy about little things, like today when a twenty-inch strip of toilet paper laid on the floor outside of the bathrooms for more than thirty minutes. I noticed numerous employees walk on it but never stop to clean it up. This caused me to wonder what else has been neglected or left unclean. Let's do better! The whole team should take pride in the workplace.
Appearance is good, food was good, though we got scamed. We ordered 3 (1 lb) parrilladas they served us almost a pound of just onions, tomato and bell peppers very few meat. I think it was too expensive for what we got. Customer service was good.
Food was good.. I do wish there's someone who speaks English and Spanish. Because I ordered my food I had some questions and no one could help me. Our waiter never came to refill our drink. I had to get up and go get him. I don't think I'll come back.
Had breakfast Tacos, egg, bean and cheese. Forgot the egg and everything tasted like bacon. Coffee was lukewarm at 9am. My friend had huevas rancheras. Looked very sloppy and again tasted like bacon. Servers were nice. Nice location downtown New Braunfels but wouldn't go again.
Went for breakfast. Not very clean, smelled overwhelming like Fabuloso. Music was too loud for that time of morning. Waitress was attentive but would not smile (maybe she was having an off day)? So we come to the food! Bacon was horrible like it was cooked the day before and heated up 🤮. Beans looked and tasted like the were out of a can and they tried to doctor them up but it was a fail. The flour tortillas were thin and hard they literally broke in half. Coffee was good and the huevos ala Mexicana was fresh and okay tasting. Won’t be back.
Stopped because it looked like it was good, but nope. Taco Bell would have been better.
Server accidentally gave us hot tea instead of coffee and fixed it after we took our first few sips, I ordered huevos rancheros over med but I couldn't eat them because the eggs were burnt and crispy. The husband's scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly (not burnt). The service was good.
We're in town from San Antonio and decided to have breakfast tacos & chilaquiles from El Tapatio. Ordered out food to go. First off, the food did not look appetizing. The eggs were scrambled extremely hard to the point they started to brown/burn & the beans had a block of unmelted cheese. The chilaquiles did not look any better. I hoped that the taste would be better but we were thoroughly disappointed. At least the iced tea and tortillas were good I guess.
I ordered chalupas and they were not chalupas. Chalupas are supposed to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; fried masa!! This was a fried corn tortilla. Basically a damn tostada not cooked all the way. Impossible to eat and fell apart and was a huge mess. The barbacoa was very very dry in both chalupas and the burrito. Not pleased at all. Can get better food at a taco truck on the side of the highway! Very disappointing as the place smelled amazing when I walked in.
This place has good food but terrible service! I've also been over charged on my credit card more than once and the manager didn't not seem to care. I use to eat breakfast here every morning but after this morning I definitely will not be returning to this Establishment. The lady working the drive through window was very rude after messing up my order 2 days in a row.
Food was bad. I was missing food items like rice from my dish. Food took forever to arrive. Had trash all over the floors/under tables. There were only 2 workers that spoke English and were doing the majority of work. The others just stared & walked away if we needed help. Checking out was a mess, bills were supposed to be split but they put it all together and had us figure it out. Felt bad for the guy checking us out, doing drive thru AND answering phone calls at the same time.
While placing my order I was speaking in Spanish and English. As my order was completed, I was getting ready to drive up with my window down. The restaurant employee from the drive-through window made a derogatory comment in Spanish from her headset that I heard clearly from the speaker. She stated "Pinche Vieja" as I was proceeding to drive up to pay for my order. Instead I went back to the speaker and I asked her, "Did you just call me Pinche Vieja"? No response. I went into the restaurant and asked to speak with management and a young man with blonde hair replied he won't be here until tomorrow and he asked me if there was something wrong. I stated I want to cancel my order in regards to what I was called by the employee. I was very disappointed in the employee's behavior. I have been a regular and courteous customer for some time and never been treated like this before. This derogatory and abusive comment was uncalled for and as I was respectfully ordering food. To make matters worse, my witness to this derogatory comment was my daughter sitting next to me in the car. I've called this business a couple times attempting to speak with managers and they said he's not here. After the third attempt they said he went to Mexico. After a few minutes the owner called me and I told him what happened but he basically didn't care. They lost my business.
We stopped here on a whim. We ordered our food and once we got it, we were not impressed. I got the carnitas, it should be pork however, I couldn't tell, the meat was dark brown and over seasoned. It tasted like it was about to turn bad. Maybe it was left from the night before reheated and re-seasoned, that's my only guess. I didn't even try to eat the rice and beans after that as I felt sick. We left most of thr food on the plates, paid and left.
Food was horrible. I bought 4 plates. Took forever for them to make the food. One looked like dog food. It didn't look like chicken. I got three nachos and one beef fajita plate. It was more like ground beef. Taste awful. Seriously, would never buy there food there again. The other plates were for family that live in New Braunfels. They said wheres the beans? It was just chips chicken or misery meat and cheese. Horrible!
Warning! They will overcharge you. Ask for the price. Overpriced food. Not transport about price of food. They are not professionals fast food restaurant. They do not repeat order and will charge whatever. They even have a sticker in front window saying they can overcharge. It was 8 dollars for 2 tacos. That is ridiculous. Only in New braunfels. Overpriced tacos. Never going to again.
how can you be proud to serve Caldo the res With just beef, carrots, and potato, I’m sure that beef soup contains at least celery, cabbage, garlic, and onion beef Broth with One big chunk of potato and one big chunk of carrot that’s it will never go back
I don't understand the previous reviews unless they have had a major shift in management since the good reviews were left. The salsa was decent, our chips were toasty (burnt). I ordered the ground beef nachos and the ground beef was horrible and made me sick the next day. I'm pretty sure it comes in a bag and is just heated up. Anyway, I'll never go back. Taqueria El Tapatio needs to reduce the portion sizes and focus on quality and flavor. Our waitress was great but the food is the worst food I've had in Texas.
Drive thru breakfast tacos. 3 for $8 is expensive. For two bean and cheese and one chorizo. The tortillas aren't house made and we're pretty terrible. The lady in the drive thru was very pleasant. Everything else was very below average.
My family and I came here with high hopes from reviews, we left disappointed the menu is all together nice but it isn't catered to Mexicans more texicans, the food was severely disappointing i honestly didn't bother eating just from what I seen a lady complained about her food 4 time's from when we sat down and they messed it up each time my family ordered and ate their food, everyone is disappointed, my sister enchiladas, the chicken was cold the tortilla wasn't even heated up and its like they just dipped it in heated up salsa and wrapped it the beans reheated, my brother in law got a pastor burrito no flavor whats so ever not even a real burrito no lemon, radish, cilantro, rice, beans or even salsa and my 3 nephew's my sister's kids didn't even like the food which says alot they didn't even touch the cheese enchiladas nor the beans an surprisingly the rice was all left untouched they didn't even eat the burger and the waitress we had a younger slender girl was rude to us until we spoke to her in spanish I understand not understanding a language but don't treat customers rudely just because you have to work as she obviously just got there in a mood not even in uniform nor was her hair done over disappointed and wouldn't go back nor recommend to any real Mexicans atleast in California a gas station restaurant has more class then any Texan mexican knock-offs overall if your a Texan you'll love it but if your from California or just a real Mexican don't go here.
First & last time we’ll ever eat here! If I could give zero stars, I would! Firstly, the waiter didn’t understand English very well at all so it was extremely difficult to communicate. Secondly, my food was absolutely cold & undercooked, as was my husband’s! Thirdly, I asked for queso dip & got shredded cheese. Additionally, the waiter never came back to ask if everything was okay nor did he offer us any refills. I ended up not eating my food, even after complaining to the person, I assumed was the manager on duty, she just offered a weak apology & we still had to pay! We ended up getting very upset stomachs afterwards too. We should’ve known better by the mere fact that only two couples were there eating besides us. The couple behind us were also having issues with their order. Never again!
