Opinions de Criollo at Hotel Monteleone New Orleans
The Criollo is a fabulous restaurant. We stayed at the Monteleone for a few days and ate breakfast and dinner at Criollo. Our service was impeccable and the food was out-of -this -world delicious. For the Holidays they were offering a 5 course meal- $75 per person, it was worth every dollar. The drinks were well prepared and delicious. Since it was my birthday I received a special dessert. This was a great way to celebrate!
I came here before New Years with family and ordered the flame broiled oysters......words cannot describe how delicious it was. The flavors hit every sweet spot of your taste buds and kept you asking for more. I highly recommend coming here if only for the oysters before you take on the French quarter and bourbon street!
Came here during our Honeymoon and during Coolinary. The blue crab beignets are perfection. The trout entree - amazingly delicious and the CHEESECAKE MOOUSE - oh my, best thing I’ve ever had. The cocktails were delicious and well crafted. Service was splendid. Gino and crew treated us amazingly!
I loved this place!! This picture does not do it justice but this crawfish omelette was sooo tasty!! I also ordered some sausage links. We also got the beignets with the strawberries and praline sauce. That was magical!! The sauce tasted like caramel and it was a perfect combination. Also our waiter named “Maria” was super sweet and helpful the entire time. Lastly, we ordered the Peach Bellini and those were so good! I loved it here. It was a little pricey but completely worth it. I also added a picture of the beverages / alcohol menu.
Amazing from beginning to end. Staff was above par. Chef came out to detail every single course. I cannot rave enough how delicious everything was. The portions sizes are perfection. Enough to fill you by the end but not over stuff you that you can’t make it through all five. I highly recommend. Was the perfect meal to celebrate our 15th anniversary. The steak wagyu melted in your mouth. Lobster perfection. The apps incredible and the dessert decadent. Take a night to enjoy this wonderful meal in a beautiful location!!
Came in a little late for breakfast and they happily seated me. Good coffee. Great staff. I have tried quite a few beignets in NOLA and I honestly think they have the best! The fried chicken and gravy sandwich wasn’t too heavy and the croissant was crisped to perfection. My server Michael was phenomenal.
Great 3-course prix fixe menu with $1 martinis tucked away inside Hotel Montelone offered Monday-Friday. I was pleasantly surprised by the food choices and fair pricing for a hotel restaurant. I am looking forward to returning for the Le Petit Chef experience. Looking forward to trying the BLFGT and Eggs Calcasieu.
You are advised to park at the Hotel Monteleone, 2 hours will run you $13. Came in a little late for our reservation due to parking confusion and traffic in the French Quarter, but the staff was exceptionally gracious with us. As a note, their hours of operation vary a little from what Google says online, you are advised to call in ahead to see how late they'll stay open. Traditionally though, the kitchen closes at 10:00. That said, we have been struggling to find a vegetarian friendly fine dining experience in Nola that doesn't have a 50 minute waitlist. Criollo is VERY vegetarian friendly. Not only do they have a vegetarian option in each dining category, but they are happy to modify the menu to craft you a unique entreé as well. How is this place not on a top vegetarian list??? I would like to add a big thank you to Michael Dupree (Food & Bev. Manager) for their kindness to us with regards to the kitchen and our lateness, as well as their generosity. We were seated immediately and the fun began from there with live Jazz from the room over. If at all possible, come in for dinner and treat yourself to some of the BEST table service in the area with Joseph, Roy, and Terrence. Our glasses were always full and bread generously supplied--which you will find yourself eating a lot of since it's just THAT good. I ordered the Eggplant appetizer, artichoke soup, seasonal salad finished with a vegetarian entreé after Joseph kindly suggested one could be made for me. The eggplant...you can't go wrong with it. It was so rich and flavorful that mouth is watering right now. Same with the soup and salad--my omnivorous date was actually jealous of how tasty my meal was 😆. Joseph, you are a delight! Thank you for taking such good care of us. The entreé is usually where most restaurants catering to vegetarians mess up--but not Criollo. My main course was as flavorful as the rest of my meal and generously portioned with vegetables and savory risotto. If you choose a dessert, go with the creme bruleé and eat the shell. 😍 My meal was one of the best I've had in a city where good food is a part of the culture. Criollo has something for everyone, even vegans--my food was so good I forgot to take pictures most of the time. This is a must stop for fine dining and their prices were on par with the other vegetarian places that turned us away. I will be returning to Criollo every time I come to Nola and looking specifically for the staff mentioned above. Kindness is an art, and so is good food--Criollo has both. Compliments to the kitchen here for providing a memorable experience.
I went here for a 5 course meal with my girlfriend and it was amazing, we were in a time crunch and our waiter was super understanding and worked quickly to get us our food which was very kind of him. I loved the restaurant, I thought it had some amazing food, I’d definitely go back!
We ended our trip with a magical dinner here. The service was impeccable, food was great, and the ambience was so special. More of a fancy and traditional atmosphere rather than trendy- so keep this in mind if you’re looking for something else. Everyone in our party walked away very satisfied. If you’re looking for a special occasion meal, this is your place. Reservations recommended.
If you're staying at the Monteleone you should not discredit Criollo as a "hotel restaurant" - they have wonderful food and impeccable friendly service. Breakfast eggs Benedict is a must - potatoes are crisp and piping hot - eggs cooked to perfect consistency. Coffee blend is amazing - the day I took these photos a woman at another table made the same comment about the coffee. Close proximity to the famous Carousel bar.
Let me just say if they bottled the praline sauce and sold it I'd buy a dozen and hook each bottle to a iv in my arm. I thought that i have had beignets all styles, but nothing has blown my mind as a beignet drizzled with praline sauce . it was decadent and sweet. I should have just had that as my breakfast but that was the appetizer. And then came my steak n eggs. When originally was set out to get the chicken and biscuit Miss Kathy directed me softly but firmly to steak and eggs. It was phenomenal. My eggs eggs were just ok but the steak and asparagus were. 😲 the grill marks were perfect diamonds with the tiniest amount of char. Will be back again (and again and again)
We came for Le Petit Chef experience the weekend after Thanksgiving. The servers and manager were great and accommodating! They made sure my 4 year old had a great meal and accommodated my family with shell fish allergies. The food was delicious! I would highly recommend this experience
This place is very accommodating, friendly and warm. Alexander was our helper and he was the best- so is Roy. We had a family post graduation dinner here and it is unforgettable. The manager even came to check on us. Alexander took time talking to us about the menu and even directed where to go for a walk after. The ambiance is very classy. I would recommend this place especially to people who want to learn about the local foods and how they prepare them.
If you’re ever in New Orleans, visit the Hotel Monteleone, grab a drink at the famed Carousel Bar and have breakfast at their restaurant, Criollo. The banana cream pancakes are a decadent treat, perfectly representative of Fat City. Precede these with the house beignets and you can’t go wrong. ***Pro tip...dip the beignets in your coffee and enjoy powdered sugar mixed with jet black chicory for all the delicious goodness! ❤️ ***Pro tip...order the waffle and have someone else at the table order the chicken biscuit and steal their chicken & waffles.🙃
One of the better breakfasts in NO in fancy hotel restaurant. They did a fantastic shrimp and grits and a classic eggs and hash with a side of delightful foraged mushrooms. We had awkward interactions with three staff members who tried tot3nd tius but seemed unfamiliar with hospitality etiquettes. Not rude , just odd and awkward.
A beautiful restaurant that we had both brunch and lunch at over the week. The food was good, and the drinks were fantastic but the real excellence of this place is the service. The staff here truly love New Orleans and their kindness and passion for life comes through in their work. They take time to chat with the customers and take a real interest in your enjoyment of the city, going over and above to ensure your meal and experience is great, but that you get to see and love New Orleans as much as they do. We will definitely be back to New Orleans, and the Hotel Monteleone and Criollo will both be on our list of places to return many times. 😎🤙
I'm from Out of town and my friend took me here for Coolinary. It was AMAZING!!!! The food was fantastic! The service was super friendly and attentive. The general manager was so kind and when he found out my friend's young daughter who was dining with us wanted to be a chef, he took us over to see the kitchen and met the chef on duty! They were both so kind and went out of their way to make her feel important and excited about being a chef . Over all just a wonderful experience!!
Did the petit chef 5 course meal presentation was amazing. Food was good but you are paying for the show. Price is right under 200 per person including children and babies. Atmosphere is amazing we were in our own little room with roughly a dozen people. Tip is included in the meal at 20% and you will also pay 40 per person to pitit chef. Defiantly something you will have to experience atleast once.
What a fantastic experience! We stopped in for breakfast. I had the creole omelet and my wife had eggs Benedict. The food was exceptional! Our server Beatrice told us they had the best coffee in NOLA and she was not kidding! Beatrice and Kenny were fantastic and left us wanting to return soon.
The food and service were so exceptional we went twice. Our server we had the first day was Jorge, he was amazing and remembered us on our second visit and greeted us by name. Our second visit we had Erica and she was also great. It is very apparent the staff here have had top notch training. Overall amazing service and food, true southern hospitality. A must while in New Orleans.
This is a beautiful restaurant. Beautiful ambiance and great service. Adriana was our server and did amazing explaining the new menu. I got the shrimp scampi and cheeseburger. The scampi could’ve had a big more flavor it tastes pretty bland, but the cheeseburger was delicious. Nicely seasoned and charred.
Criollo is one of best hotel restaurants in New Orleans. As it should be, perched at the corner of Royal and Iberville in the French Quarter. People watching at its best. Add to that it’s in the best hotel in the Quarter, The Monteleone. You’ve seen it the wedding cake hotel, with the Carousel Bar… Criollo is their best kept secret. Best breakfast in town, chicken and biscuits to die for and their beignets are legendary. They also do a delicious lunch, if you wake up late. Crab cakes are a great option, so is the burger, the veal and the Cobb salad. But supper is when she shines, lights turned down low except for your little table lantern. Wonderful wine and drinks list, the world famous Carousel Bar & their bar keeps are adjoining. Brand new pasta additions have brightened up the menu, they pair well with duck, trout or tenderloin and they’re perfect on their own. Some of the best Italian in town. My favorites this trip? Criollo Salad, which is as delicious as it is beautiful and Carbonara, which is pure perfection. Round all this out with stellar service and one of the best jazz brunches in town and you can’t ask for more. Come for a visit, you’ll be back. I promise. 🥂
We made a brunch reservation at Criollo…. To start off, the hotel Monteleone is fabulous. The Criollo has a jazz band that plays during brunch, which was very enjoyable ….. We elected to go for the carafe of Bloody mary, and made it spicy….. It was really good and easily served about 7 glasses…… For food we ordered the mussels, the crab and avocado toast, and the artichoke eggs Benedict…… Everything tasted wonderful… The staff were attentive and friendly. We also appreciated that the kitchen was open and you could see all the food being prepared.
We finally found our favorite restaurant in the french quarters. The food here is absolutely amazing. The rolls they give you are ridiculously good and addictive. The best fish I have ever had is their redfish. I couldn’t believe just how good it actually was and if it was socially acceptable to lick my plate clean I probably would have done it. The service was even better. They are attentive and had everything we wanted before we even had to ask. They also know how to be attentive but also leave you alone. It was a good balance. Will definitely be coming back.
We came here for the jazz brunch and were not let down! I got the steak and eggs, not only was my steak cooked perfectly (rare as all steaks should be) it was seasoned perfectly! My wife got the chicken and biscuits, and it was fantastic! For an appetizer, we got the Blue Crab & Corn Beignets, and let me tell you... they were phenomenal! The service was also very nice. I felt like i was dining at a 5-star restaurant! I would definitely recommend coming here, as I will be coming back!!
Located inside our hotel, the Hotel Monteleone, we were spoiled by how good their restaurant’s food was. This was our go to spot for beignets and brunch. Highly recommend staying here for the best beignets in the French Quarter of New Orleans and their award winning food. A beignet is a deep fried French pastry, with a flaky exterior (similar to an authentic French croissant) and a pillowy soft, layered interior. It’s topped with powdered sugar for an overall semisweet treat, but dipped in Praline sauce (a vanilla bean sauce with a touch of caramel) makes for a heavenly bite. Don’t bother going to Café Du Monde or Cafe Beignet, unless you prefer amusement park fried dough and sugar, this is the real deal, French technique of a beignet. Crab Cake Benedict was made with blue crab from the Gulf, topped with poached eggs and ladled with Béarnaise sauce. Crab cakes are typically made with a ton of breadcrumbs, not enough crab meat, this was the complete opposite. Every bite was mainly fresh, well seasoned Cajun crab meat. Eggs benny and crab meat, what a perfect combo. Who would’ve thought?! Fried chicken and gravy, topped with a jalapeño cheddar biscuit is the way to start a morning! Their fried chicken was so crispy and juicy, so well seasoned! The gravy was delicious, this stuff would be a Thanksgiving game changer, so rich and meaty. Dipping the biscuit into the gravy and topping it with some fried chicken made for a freaking epic bite! Can’t say enough about how wonderful the food here was. It’s a must go brunch destination! ✨
All of my senses were OVERWHELMED with pleasure at Criollo's Jazz Brunch! The service and food was superb Michelin level quality. The live jazz band kept me entertained as I was coursed out. The chef elevated the fried green tomatoes and chicken biscuit to an award winning level. The chicken biscuit was smothered in jalapeño's, scallions and the best rue I have ever tasted so I sent my compliments to the chef. Every delectable bite forced my eyes shut so I could deeply enjoy the freshness, flavor and texture. While I was enjoying coffee the chef sent complimentary Rosemary & Lemon Custard Madeline's. It was an innovative way to approach this classic pastry. My only critique is the custard on top was so good I wanted more. Very light, fresh, and balanced melody of flavors. The consistency was reminiscent of a fusion between a scone and puff pastry. You can tell the French invited fries by how well the fries here complimented every dish. It was such a phenomenal experience, I found myself making reservations for the next day halfway through brunch and I am happy to say the food, service and entertainment are consistently great here. The fancy French atmosphere at Hotel Monteleone was fit for a Queen and the bathroom attendant cleaned the stall prior to each guests use. This is a must try spot in The French Quarter.
We did the La Petit Chef exlerkence at Criollo, and the visuals, staff attentiveness, and the food was all immaculate. I cannot thank them all enough for the wonderful experience my husband and I had for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Definitely an experience that is worth the time and money. Some of the best food I've ever had and we love to eat!!
If you ever find yourself in New Orleans, do yourself a favor and dine at Criollo! I was absolutely blown away by the impeccable service, the amazing food, and the warm, inviting ambiance. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during busy times like Mardi Gras, but fortunately, I was able to be seated, and the hostess was incredibly understanding. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had entered a refined yet welcoming dining space, complete with an open kitchen and smiling faces ready to greet me. A small but thoughtful touch was being able to choose the color of the napkin placed across my lap—a detail that added to the overall experience. The breakfast menu was filled with enticing options, but I decided to play it safe and go with something reminiscent of a lox bagel, one of my favorites. However, the Criollo touch took it to another level, adding a unique, flavorful sweetness that I never could have imagined. It was an absolute pleasure dining here, and I can't wait to return!
This is such a beautiful restaurant. I made reservations at a recent day at Hotel Monteleon and I am so glad that I did. The atmosphere is easy and light and refined. It’s very crisp and clean. The coffee. Drinks were superb and the breakfast was to die for. I could stay there all day reading a book or just hanging out with friends for brunch and still really love the place - highly recommend.
Everything was fantastic. Very easy to book the reservation and we had to change it multiple times and they were very accommodating. Service was great (Adriana took very good care of us) and the food was outstanding. Try the beignets and you'll be ruined for any others'. The jazz music was lovely at brunch - nice choice of songs and not so loud that we couldn't talk (and we were right next to the performers). One of our favorite restaurants in New Orleans for sure! 😋😋😋
Nice restaurant. Staff was pleasant and very attentive. The menu was not overly complicated. We had the gumbo, crab cakes, and cobb salad. The gumbo was excellent. The crab cakes were delicious as well. There was a little too much cucumber on the salad, but other than that, another great dish. The atmosphere was a bit pretentious when they asked us to pick the color of our napkins. It is an upscale restaurant, but that was a bit over the top. The prices were a lot less than I expected, and there were great views of the street and people passing by. This was a great place to grab a quick bite while hanging out in the Quarter.
Ms Kathy is the best. She is on top of it at all times. She had what we needed before we needed it. Food was on point and the atmosphere was great as well. Didn’t want to leave. You must go and eat here soon! Management, Robby, Hector and the rest of the team does an awesome job as well.
Great dining experience every time we've been here. We've tried the breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu items and been pleased with them all. The brunch portions are the largest by far so it's great for sharing! We love the fried green tomatoes, they're always perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. If you like pasta the lunch options are all delicious and start out vegetarian and then you select the added protein of your choice from their list of add ons, it's a great option that feels like it satisfies everyone. Breakfast and brunch have fewer vegetarian/vegan options but are still tasty so long as you're not looking for a high protein vegetarian breakfast. If you're staying in the hotel this is a great place to grab a bit and the wait for a table it typically short. Staff is all exceptionally helpful and polite.
Excellent lunch service with live music Bread service, cobb salad w/ grilled chicken and one with steak. Both proteins were cooked perfectly. Produce was fresh and presented beautifully. Bread service included Parmesan shaved over olive oil. The staff is impeccable with quick attention to detail. You cannot get the famous butter cake or root beer floats here. Those are serve in the Carousel bar.
I went to try the Golden Beet salad in their brunch menu. It was outstanding and the staff was very attentive. I tried the Egg Sardou as well, it was good. They also gave a biscotti with the coffee, it is the first time any coffee shop has done that, the place is embedded within French culture indeed. They also have live jazz, it was pleasant.
Our dinner at Criollo has been the highlight of our New Orleans trip! Food is crazy delicious. We had the bread service and scallops for starters with our margaritas and the duck and the NY strip for our mains. We paired those with wine. What sets it all apart from all the wonderful places in the city we’ve been to is our server Merry. Not only is she knowledgable about everything in the menu, but she is also hospitable, warm, and engaging. She goes above and beyond — Criollo gets an extra star for her! We’ll be recommending Criollo to everyone we know who’s visiting New Orleans. Amazing experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Came across this place while browsing Restaurant Week Menus; went in for the 2-course pre fixe lunch. Was very impressed with my experience. I’m vegetarian and was super pleased with the options for me; both courses were delicious- very intentional and well made, which can be hard to find for vegetarian food. My partner was very happy with his seafood fishes as well. The manager told us she was very happy to have us there, which made us feel super welcomed, especially in a place a little more high end than what we would usually frequent. I would highly recommend, especially for a date night! We will be back!
I definitely recommend this place. The tenderloin melts in your and is bone-butter amazing!! The service from Serkan was impeccable and friendly.
Had breakfast and lunch on different days. The food was as good as any fine dining in French Quarter, without a formal dress code. It was convenient, as it was in Hotel Monteleone, where we were staying. Returned multiple times because of the live music, polite service, and delicious options.
Excellent service and food. If you have experience dining in elevated restaurants or not, this will be worth it. Many thanks to Serkan our server.
The whole experience was amazing. Dupe was very helpful in setting up our anniversary reservation. The five course dinner was excisite. The atmosphere was intimate. The wait staff Johnson and Sophie provided great service. Johnson explained the dishes in great detail. We highly recommend. This is not a simple meal, but a culinary experience.
Giving 5 stars because of the service. The initial host was not very warm but the manager (I believe) Michael took over to help us and eventually our server Kathy (who has been there for over 50 years!!!) both made the experience exceptional. The food (IMO) was underwhelming and the cacio had way too much pepper but again the service made it all worth it.
This brunch was a wonderful experience! The service, food, atmosphere, and music made it perfection! I'm just sad I hadn't discovered it until now.
The best Brunch in New Orleans. Live music, authentic beignets, but even more special, is Kathy the waitress. She’s been working at the family-owned Monteleone hotel for 54 years, and she is a national treasure. She made our brunch even better. Highly recommend Criollo.
Had the pleasure of staying at the Monteleone last weekend. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday ate breakfast/brunch at Criollo. The food was outstanding and can't get the thought of those delicious fried green tomatoes out of my mind. All the food was delicious and prepared perfectly. Morning cocktails were wonderful as well. The staff was personable, cheerful and very accommodating. On Saturday, our server Taylor was exceptional! Not only did Taylor serve with great enthusiasm, she went out of her way to ensure we enjoyed our meal and provided a bit of laughter. What a great way to start the weekend. Thank you Criollo, see you next year!
Delicious food and wonderful service. I recommend the croissant french toast and beignets if you like sweets. My fiancé had the Monteleone Breakfast which is the traditional eggs/meat/biscuit. He's very particular about how his eggs are cooked and they nailed it. There was a jazz duo which was nice and not loud so you could hear yourself talk. Highly recommend this place.
Grateful for the people who quietly make our days better. 🤍 This trip reminded me that it’s often the humans behind the service who leave the deepest impressions. ✨ Hector — moving slowly, with grace and dignity, never once cutting a corner. A reminder that showing up fully matters more than speed. ✨ Kenny — generous with stories, culture, and recommendations, turning a simple meal into a shared human moment. ✨ Paula — working extra hard on Christmas Eve with limited help, carrying stress with strength and still delivering kindness and care. ✨ Mayur — thoughtful, curious, and eager to help us discover New Orleans beyond the obvious. To all the servers, waiters, and staff who hold the world together on busy, understaffed, emotional days — thank you. You are seen. 🙏 #Gratitude #HumanKindness #ServiceWithHeart #ChristmasInNewOrleans #GoodEnergy #ThankYou #KindnessMatters #SeenAndAppreciated
(Visited Jan 14/17 5:30PM) We were staying at the Hotel Monteleone so we decided to have free wine with our dinner. (Hotel Compliments). The VIP Manager also gave my roommate and I complimentary dessert vouchers which were awesome :) I didn't order too much, just the Beef Carpaccio and the Caesar Salad. Neither of which I was entirely impressed with. Maybe I should have asked for the salad without the white anchovies - it gave the salad an odd taste. I will say the Dessert was the best part for me (oh and the White House wine was very good too). I had the Crème Bruele and my roommate had the Bread Pudding. Both were extremely delicious so I highly recommend both. Atmosphere was very inviting and professional. All the wait staff and servers were extremely professional and kind. James was our server, and he was absolutely great. I was told to get the aged steak but it was $60 #RIPmyWallet. Maybe next time because I was told it was delicious.
Beautiful restaurant inside The Monteleone Hotel. Food was great; I had the Criollo Salad (100% recommended!) and the Perdido Red Snapper. The portion of the latter was a bit disappointing for the price (too small; ate it in 4 bites) however, well cooked and delicious. I recommend putting that plate as part of the 5 main course offer they have and not as a single entree or increase the portion size. Other disappointing item, they ran out of mint; therefore, no mojitos 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. That was a bummer! Aside of those 2 things (hence the 4 stars ⭐️), food was fantastic and I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting NOLA.
This restaurant does excellent food. The 5 course menu is really good. The burrata dish is light and fresh. The bouillabaisse is pleasantly spicy. The lobster tail is well done. And La Bomb is a welcome childlike dessert. You'll notice I've only listed 4 courses. And therein lies some of the problem: a lack of vegetarian options. Other than an asparagus dish and a couple of salads, I had no choice but to be pescatarian. And as the 4th dish was meat there was little to do. But here's where they get 5 stars for service. They generously allowed my wife to double up a course (she chose the lobster tail) and I got to have the lobster mac-n-cheese as a substitute. The service at the table was excellent throughout. There were two people looking after us and they were always attentive. The restaurant is beside the carousel bar, so live music and noise can be heard. But it doesn't disturb and adds a nice background to the evening. If there had been a bigger selection for vegetarian I would score them higher on food. As with a lot of places in New Orleans, salad is vegetarian. And it's a shame.
Staying on site at the Monteleone, we arrived Saturday at 9:45 wanting to catch breakfast and we put on 15 min wait list. No text notifications so at 23 min, I went to check, they took us right in. Super friendly service! 10:19 and they'd switched to brunch. Got the scampi app, good, heavy garlic. Lobster Benedict 3.5/5 (wife.) A little tough, very low temp, and an abundance of potatoes. Good flavor (nice touch with salmon roe.) Steak and eggs cooked perfect, just tepid on temp. Forgot my coffee but it eventually came. Nice rich chicory and also almost cool. Loved the subtle live music and view (sat at window.) For the price, expected better. Still good, just not great this time. Worthy of trying again.
As we walked in we did feel judged by the hostess, she look at us like we didn’t belong.. and then felt like we were being watched my the management/supervisor like we were going to dine and dash.. I comment a wee bit loud about it and then he walked away.. however, that all left our mind when Jessica served us.. she was spectacular.. there are not enough words to say how she made us welcome.. the food was good, but pricey.. hash browns MEH! way too much spice.. coffe was strong but delicious .. beignet to die for… would we go back, maybe but the prices were higher then the value of the book in my opinion..
Great creole breakfast / brunch spot. Located inside the historic Hotel Monteleone. Ordered Eggs Benedict and Fried green tomatoes. Both are perfectly cooked. The staff is hospitable and helpful. The restaurant and the hotel are beautiful. Would return for their weekend jazz brunch for live music.
Went in with high hopes, but unfortunately the food was nowhere near what we were expecting, especially for the price. We had dinner, and the shrimp and pasta was barely warm. The chicken on peppered fettuccine was ok, but reminded me of Olive Garden. Overall the food was very bland. The service was absolutely fantastic so it felt awkward to mention how disappointing the food was. There are so many better places that cost much less. This one was a big miss for us.
Nothing special. The food was decent. It’s your standard hotel restaurant. There are a number of other great restaurants we went to over the weekend here that are much better and less expensive. It was my parents wedding anniversary and dads birthday and they did nothing, not even a congratulations. Other restaurants of this stature like Brennan’s or Antoine’s were more gracious and even gave us free champagne in celebration.
Solid atmosphere and service. Food was awful. Dry chicken on a salad. Dry chicken added to my pasta. $80 tab for tiny bowl of bland pasta and the salad and then on the bill was a charge for "kitchen appreciation". 😆. Too many great food options in New Orleans to spend that kinda money on meal that I would value at about $30 and paid $80.
The Le Petit Chef website states no substitutions even for food allergies but urges you to call with questions and concerns. I did and asked how they handled food allergies other than calling 911. Michael explained that they could not create a new dish but could accommodate shellfish allergies by serving a fish dish instead of lobster and a second salad in place of the bouillabaisse. Two days before the dinner, I called to confirm and was told by an apologetic hostess that the chef refused to substitute and I needed to check their “no substitution” policy and even if someone else had told me substitutions were ok, the chef said “NO.” This is the same chef who is noted on the main menu as choosing the vegetables for your meal and reserves the right to cook your steak to HIS preferred temperature. Well, hubris and arrogance mean that your cooking really better be perfect. It wasn’t (the dishes were either too bland or too salty, except for the dessert which was probably brought in from Whole Foods). Some of us decided to make the attempt for the entertainment factor. When we arrived, the waitress immediately asked if we had any food allergies and proceeded to offer the same substitutions that Michael had originally offered. Seriously?! You tell us off for something you changed anyway? At $135+ per person, the restaurant certainly lost money chasing away those in our party with food allergies. I have no problem with a no substitution policy but get your policies straight with your staff as it isn’t the guest’s fault that your front and back of the house lack communication. The only good part was the Le Petit Chef presentation. It really could have amused kids more but we found it fun and entertaining.
We did Le Petite Chef at Criollo in New Orleans. The show is cute and the service was fine, but we left feeling blindsided by extra fees and charges that were not clearly advertised upfront—and for what we paid, the food was mediocre at best. We spent over $700 for 5 people, and it absolutely did not feel worth it. The reservation process creates the impression that you’re paying for a set multi-course meal. We expected a splurge and were prepared for that. What we were not prepared for was getting hit at the end with additional charges that did not feel clearly disclosed during booking. If you’re considering this, assume the total will be much higher than you think and ask for a full breakdown of every fee before you commit. To make it worse, the food didn’t justify the premium price: Salad: good, but a tiny portion Soup: lukewarm and not good Lobster tail: decent flavor, but overcooked Beef short rib: tasted like an overcooked pot roast Dessert: decent, but nothing special Bottom line: this experience feels designed to get you in the door with one price in mind and then surprise you at checkout. Between the unexpected add-on charges and the underwhelming food, I can’t recommend it. If you want to eat at Criollo, go for a normal dinner and skip Le Petite Chef—or at minimum, demand a full itemized cost breakdown before booking.
Much better choices for food in the quarter. Celebrated our wedding anniversary and the restaurant did not offer a toast or dessert.. select brennans or acme .. you will be happy you did
I’m not sure how there’s a 4.5 starts. As someone from the south, this food isn’t is. Find local places. I’ve never had food so unseasoned in my life. If you are old or enjoy bland food this is your place.
Review is simply about service, we stood at the host station for 15 min, 3 employees walk through the area without even asked much as a someone will be with you soon, no acknowledgement of our presence.
