I Come here when I want to meet up with my daughter and friends..sooo worth it!! Food is just sooo fabulous and the attention to detail on each plate goes unnoticed..service is wonderful add the prices are really reasonable for the quality..
Consistently the best Thai food I've had in the area. The spring rolls are my favorite and the curry and pad see ew. I've been to many other Thai restaurants and none compare to Bangkok Cafe.
Surprisingly it was really good. We had low expectations walking in as we were already hungry and were ready to eat just anything. All the dishes we had ordered had taste and were fresh. Pleasant service and good atmosphere made us to really enjoy the food. The only thing I wish coconut water wouldn't have sugar in it.
Wow, incredible food. Super rich, flavorful, fresh. Big portions, amazing service. What else you can ask?
Where do I begin! My family and I were greeted by the host with a warm loving smile, the moment we sat down the food was absolutely delicious and made with pure love and a lot of thought that went with it. I know this is going to be my go to restaurant the next time I am in town. Lovely spot with a very warm feeling. Thank You for such a lovely time and wonderful food
Delicious food, great service, and good variety! They had a huge number of choices that covered a large variety of types of dishes. They did have a lot of seafood dishes, but they had plenty of chicken, pork, and steak options. The prices were admiringly on the high end, with most dishes being 16 dollars or more. But the food is definitely worth it. The waitress was attentive, promptly refilling our waters and asking if we need anything else. The restaurant was quiet and clean. Overall, I'd definitely go back.
This place is the best! The servers are extremely sweet. If you have never had their Thai iced tea or lemon tea, you won’t believe how different it is from iced teas you probably know. The lemon tea doesn’t have cream like the regular Thai tea. They are both AMAZING. Everything on their menu is extremely fresh tasting and just perfect. Their lunch menu is great because it’s affordable and you still get many choices. They are always helpful if you have questions about a dish or anything like that. Please support these great people and their perfect food!
Everything about this place is DIVINE🤩food was to die for and service was phenomenal. Could have it all five meals a day!!
This airy eatery offers some of the most authentic Thai cuisine in the region. Opening shop next door to a competing and established Thai restaurant was a bold move, and speaks volumes about the confidence they have in their food. My first visit here was very pleasant. The staff were attentive and accommodating. There are a lot of vegetarian options here, which I greatly appreciated. I ordered the green curry with tofu and vegetables. The dish was delicious, fresh, and very satisfying. I prefer my dishes to be very hot and spicy, and was not disappointed with the Thai-hot option. I also have a very high opinion of Lemongrass, the other Thai restaurant next door, and we'll have a hard time choosing between the two in the future. But in the end, I think Bangkok Cafe most often win my business because of the open and airy setting, as well as the variety of vegetarian options.
A real gem. Good food and solid service. I'm a Thai junkie. This was in the top 10-15% of panang curries I've had. The curry was a little thinner than my preference (the best almost has the consistency of warmed peanut butter), but the flavor was just perfect. The vegetables were crunchy, not overcooked. My partner had the pad thai, and it too was good (the tamarind was subtle, not overbearing). Summer rolls rounded out our meal. Overall, just an excellent experience.
Nice authentic Thai food :D!! Each time I come here, the service is great where the servers are very nice, and would actually check up on you throughout the whole time there. The food here is very good compared to ones I've had before... I recommend the calamari, the curry rice with fried chicken, the red curry, the pad Thai and many more of the dishes here. Overall, the food is very good :)
Basil fried rice was incredible — I asked for spicy, I don’t believe they gave me the Thai level, but it was still delicious. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his tilapia as well and the portion sizes were very generous! Perfect stop and I highly recommend it.
This mom and pop thai restaurant in the busy part of new paltzs is a treasure. The tom yum soup no matter if you get chicken or shrimp seafood or veggies is absolutely spectacular its spicy and savoury and making you want more. The duck curry with mushrooms was like a I was transported to Thailand and enjoy the culture. As an appetizer the shrimp roll was like a tasty treat. And my only thing about atmosphere it needed some music or something but otherwise great place will definitely be bac.
I don't usually ever leave reviews, but I stumbled onto this place by accident, and just let me tell you.... what a great decision. Waitress was great, but the food was absolutely top tier. From someone who knows Thai.
Best Masaman curry in Hudson valley. Potatoes are soft and curry isn’t watery. Pad See Ew and the Pad Thai are also solid. Excellent service. They are always polite.
Pretty good Thai food. Have had a couple of interesting dishes here. It doesn't suffer from the common Thai restaurant affliction, which is everything kind of tasting the same, and relying too much on sweetness. Solid choice, made even more surprising by the location - in a small college town far away from any major city
Outstanding flavor in every dish. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Absolutely love this place. Went two separate times with my family and everybody enjoyed themselves. The food was tasty, portions were good, and everything was made so quickly! We personally love the curries and repeat order them (green curry and masaman curry). The best part of the experience is the friendly/warm service. Our waitress made us feel so welcome!
Came in before the dinner rush and got a nice spot at the window. Many items on both drink and food menu. Very friendly and accommodating staff- we wanted to double check on ensuring that the dishes were vegan, and the server was very reassuring and had suggestions for alternatives (one of the sauces wasn’t vegan). The tofu appetizer was delicious and both the basil fried rice and pad Thai were wonderful. Hot sake was a nice touch for a cold day. Will definitely be back!
Perfect just perfect! The food is amazing and the coconut mango rice is mouth watering! Ten out of ten recommended!✨✨
It tasted really authentic. Green curry was amazing ! It was 9.5/10. The reason I can’t give it 10/10 is because the eggplant didn’t taste cooked. Eggplant is one of my favourite foods so that was really disappointing. The curry was not too sweet not too salty, and you can ask for different spice levels. I want to go there again… tai green curry is one of my favourite foods in the world and I’m always comparing it when I visit Thai restaurants and this was one of the best I have had
Excellent food. We have had most of the items on the menu and have never had a dish that wasn't delicious. We especially like the soups and curry dishes. Love the plum wine, too! They always make my dishes spicy the way I like them. Portions are plentiful. We always have an extra meal to take home. The service is excellent: attentive and friendly. The restaurant is tastefully decorated. We especially like to sit on the stage area near the windows Our only complaint is one of personal taste. We don't care for the TV that is always on, but they at least mute the sound
I love everything about this place. The menu is like a novel in size. So many dishes to choose from and every dish has a photo of it, so you can actually see what it is. I like to try different things to savor the Thai cuisine. The photos help me decide on a dish I haven't tried before. There is plenty of room for social distancing and the wait staff are very amiable and attentive. It's a pleasure to eat here. The food is delicious.
We absolutely love Bangkok Cafe. We are long time area residents and this is our favorite restaurant in the area. It’s the only place you can get really authentic, spicy Thai food in the region. The employees are extremely friendly people as well.
I've only eaten here four or five times, just because of my schedule, but every time I'm thrilled. I go here because I am crazy about all the coconut soups in the world and they have a lot of soup choices. The last time I was in I had their Seafood Tom Gha
Som Tom tasted just like my grandmother's cooking! The curry was delicious! I'm definitely coming back if I pass through the area again!
Super good Thai dishes. The duck was the most tender, tasty ever!!! Had it in Drunken noodles and also a beef Drunken Noodles. Started with summer rolls made with shrimp....Oooooo so good with the peanut dipping sauce. Parking out front. Bring quarters for the meters. Service was attentive and spot on. BTW, we had a cocktail and a Bronx Wheat beer. Great malt flavor. The seating was good. This was an early dinner, but lunch is served also. If you're on the highway, take the New Paltz exit and go about 6 or 7 blocks down Main Street. EZ off, EZ on. Prices are good also.
We have been going to Bangkok Cafe for the better part of 10 years and have consistently had amazing food here! The owners are the sweetest, nicest people who bring an authentic air to the neighborhood. As someone who travels extensively, we are incredibly particular about where we go out & these guys are as good if not better than anywhere in NYC.
Enjoyed some good Thai food here. We had the Tom Kha soup with seafood and a beef salad. Tom kha soup was tasty with lots of veggies and big pieces of shrimp & mussels. No flame under the soup dish but it was a hot summer day so it didn't matter. Presentation is very nice and service is friendly.
We ordered take out . The food was so delicious . We ordered tom yum soup, spring rolls and chicken pad Thai . We will be back .
Cute place if you're driving through the area. One of the best Thai places I've ever tried.
Bangkok Cafe has some amazing thai dishes to offer . One of my pictures represents pineapple fried rice , which has amazing taste and beautiful presentation . On top of it , they have a whole new spice level called " Thai spice " red label warning for normal taste buds , but heaven for spice lovers
Craving Thai in New Paltz? Bangkok Cafe is the place. The Pad Thai is perfect, the Green Curry packs a punch, and the portions are huge. Best part? The staff treats you like family, so don’t be surprised if you feel right at home. Great food, warm vibes—definitely worth a visit!
Everything is delicious! This has become my go to restaurant for Thai food in the Hudson Valley and everything I’ve tried is delicious. I highly recommend the green curry, the shrimp spring rolls, and any of their seafood soups. My absolute favorite, however, is the khao soi with shrimp. Five stars for that dish alone. They also have a full bar AND the nicest staff on the planet. Highly recommended.
The food was incredibly amazing. I went with a friend, and we didn't talk at all. We just ate because the food was THAT good. Pad Thai is absolutely 5/5! Also, Ella was attentive and positive. Overall, I will definitely go back!
I love this restaurant. The food is very good and the prices can’t be beat. I eat here twice a week.
Not only the best food in New Paltz, but dare I say the entire Hudson Valley. I’ve been here countless of times and never ONCE has it missed. It’s the most consistently delicious and efficient restaurant in the area, featuring dishes that even the best Thai restaurants in the city don’t serve. 10/10 ALWAYS.
Amazing best Thai food I've ever eaten. So happy we chose here to try. Panang curry is wonderful. And the tom kha soup I ordered another bowl to go so good. Service was also good. Waitresses are so nice. Must try spot
I'm a local and I have eaten here a couple of times and I've enjoyed it each time. We had just come from a 5K and we were famished. Parking around here is tough, it's in the middle of town. So, if you can grab a spot on main, good luck, but we parked down a side street and walked. Seating was easy, no wait. I don't think they have outdoor dinning. They have a full bar; it's very pretty. The whole place has a simple, casual, clean appearance. I saw families, couples and groups like us. I ended up with the coconut juice and a pork and jasmine rice dish. One friend had the pad thai, and the other has some type of seafood soup on the spicy side. I would definetly recommend and I hope to eat here again.
I was a bit hesitant trying this restaurant but I’m so glad I did. Most Thai restaurants in the US make everything too sweet, almost syrupy, so much so that you can feel your mouth coated with their sauces for hours after finishing your meal. NOT this place. The food was very flavorful but felt fresh and balanced, not too sweet. Pretty great overall. Well very happy to come back. I feel like this place is actually underrated.
A very sweet older woman helped me figure out my ideal order at the counter, the food came out quickly (pad kee maw with chicken and an order of spring rolls) and everything was honestly fantastic. The spring rolls are the prettiest I’ve ever seen, it’s almost a shame to eat them but wow the ingredients taste (and feel) like they’re straight out of a local farm. The noodles are punchy, the perfect chew, and the veggies again are insanely fresh. The cilantro sings! I don’t write reviews of everything I eat, it’s either for an awful experience or something really fantastic. This was a really delicious meal, I will be back to try the curry!!
I wish the ginger would hit stronger However compared to the places I gone around nearby to see this is bout as best as it gets . I keep returning because I don't know of any other Thai places, however how I wish I could have it be tastier more flavorful , today got a Sake smooth drink not difficult to drink very refreshing and light and keep hoping the garlic, spices and onions and ginger would be of stronger use I feel like that would make it tastier.
We were on a short trip to new paltz and stopped by this cafe for some brunch. We ordered chicken pad Thai and pork fried rice. The food was good and filling. The staff was very kind and it was overall a good experience. They have free parking for customers at the back and also paid street parking at front. P.s. If you love spice like me , ask for Thai hot spice level. Even with that it wasn’t as spicy but they do give u hot sauce on side if u ask for it.
This place is consistently delicious and fresh. The service here is top notch I always feel taken care of. The food comes out quick and hot. Treat yourself to some take out or stop in for a bite. I really like their pad thai and pad see ew. Everything I've eaten from here is a banger!! Don't forget the mango sticky rice for dessert so good.
I first came to Bangkok Cafe about 7 years ago and I loved it! Yesterday was my second time here and once again everything was excellent!! The Thai iced tea here is THE BEST I’ve ever had. I ordered the Kow Soy and it was insane!!! The depth of flavor in the curry was incredible. The staff is so friendly, you truly feel like someone is cooking for you from their home. This is definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in the Hudson Valley and I can’t wait to come back.
We were seated quickly and the order was completed reasonably quickly as well. Choosing from the list of possibilities was probably longer than they took to get our orders done and presented to us. The presentation was good and the taste was delightful - Savory! The portions were generous so that we not only enjoyed it but were satisfied. We tried the beef Pad Kee Mow Woon Sen & Ped Pad Phet and they were tasty and filling. The Ice Tea was a refreshing drink. If you are in the Paltz area make sure that you include them as a meal stop on your agenda.
Came in for an early dinner at Bangkok Cafe. Sweet staff, feel like Thai grandmother vibes. The food came out quickly, hot and fresh ingredients. Medium was the perfect spice level for us. Everything tasted great, authentic flavor and rich vibrancy. My partner and I enjoyed this meal greatly. Feels like home with tasty food and reasonable prices! Each entry is roughly $15 which is amazing for Thai food prices.
This comfortable and accommodating place is a wonderful place to have a delicious meal. I would highly recommend it it if you are in the mood for something spicy or different than your usual American fare. The price is fair and the portions are generous. The service is accodating and friendly. I got the pineapple fried rice and my partner got a curry dish both are delicious. The atmosphere is very comfortable and family friendly.
The servers were great, the atmosphere is perfect -- clean, subtle music, dimly lit and it didn't feel crowded at all. The food is outstanding here. I ordered pineapple shrimp fried rice, my friend ordered the pad thai vegetable and we shared the vegetable soup. I highly recommend, it is hard to find good thai food and this place just hits the spot, food was fresh, very well presented and the taste, oh my God the taste.... soooooo good. They have really good drinks too. Thanks to the server for being sweet and friendly even though there was a lot going on. I will certainly be back soon.
Me and my husband are huge fans of Thai food. We just rendomly picked this place and went there for lunch and were absolutely impressed with this place! The food was delicious and tasted exactly like original Thai, not like in some Thai places that are adopted to American tastes. Also we were impressed that they have craft Thai beer! The staff were friendly and helpful. Thanks, guys! We will definitely come back when we are upstate NY.
Good food and a good variety of choices. Mixed drinks are great. Beer selection small. Service was great. Our waitress was very helpful and masked for precautionary purposes I am sure though you could still till she was smiling. Overall a good experience. I'd recommend it.
Just had a very pleasant lunch. The Shrimp Thai was very good. The service was off the charts. I got served in literally 5 minutes. Atmosphere was very serene. Aside from a very loud woman. I am a very hard grader so I give 4 stars. Thanks to all who posted positive reviews. You were a great assistance!
It has been a while since I have ate here. Went here for lunch and it was so tasty. Definitely try the jungle stirfry. Overall every dish we had was great. They had lots of options. And a lot of vegetarian options too. Bathrooms we're clean. Staff was so friendly and nice. Definitely check this place out if you haven't been here yet.
The food were really good but the service needs improvement. We went on a Sunday for dinner, the place was packed when we got there. When we were getting seated, we asked for a high chair for our toddler, the server just pointed to the main door direction and said the high chair is there, you can get it yourself. Like what?! We have to go get the high chair ourselves? And she didn’t come to ask what drink we want, just wanted to take food order straight away. Oh well…
I had the pad thai with chicken. Was good. Not the most amazing but I liked it. Was fresh and hot
My local friends ordered a red curry, a noodle dish and a coconut based soup. They really liked everything. I had garlic broccoli w chicken and found it a bit plain. Garlic flavor was good, chicken tasted boiled. Service and appearance were both excellent. My friends are regulars, i would go again, try something with more flavors
This is a great local restaurant at this neighborhood. We were visiting the area and bumped into this place. The overall area gives you a chilled vibe and this restaurant overtops that. Good place for dine in with family and friends. I tried a lot of thai cuisines in New York but this is so far has the richest flavors and comes close to the authentic one. We ordered a lot of food and the serving quantity was also big so it was a lot for a group of 5. I absolutely loved their Tom Yum soup. Highly recommend (please watch out for the spice level because the spicy one can get really spicy for sensitive food pallets). I personally didn’t like the sticky mango rice because the mango kind of felt unripped. Other than that the other stuff was really good The servers were also very friendly and welcoming.
Very mediocre, not tasty food served in a most awkward way in least appropriate plates or bowls. Staff is nice and friendly
Been here many times in the past. This past Monday we were running late and starving. Looked online places open until 9. This was one of the places. We arrived at 839 and the woman refused to seat us after driving 20 minutes to get here. Said take out only. We left, annoyed and disappointed. Will likely not be returning after this experience
Had been here for dinner. Ordered tom yum chicken soup and fish cakes as appetizer. We asked the soup to be made Thai hot as we can handle spice. The reaction of the waitress was rude and uncalled for. She basically gave a very rude expression and asked us if we were sure. In spite of saying yes several times, she still continued with her expression. Finally she wrote it down as Thai hot. The same thing repeated for the main course. We got the pad Thai noodles, basil chicken fried rice and panang curry. While we would have liked all dishes to be Thai hot, she just refused to write it down. We just got Thai hot for the noodles while the other two were made hot( not enough for us). The noodles, soup and fish cakes were good. Panang curry was extremely watery and basil rice was just okay. For dessert we got their fried ice cream which was good and fried banana which was actually a plantain was just okay. I am taking a star off for the waitress and her continued efforts of dissuading us from having Thai hot. She was acting as if we didn't know how Thai hot tastes. I hope they improve on their service.
Nice staff but food was not flavorful. The Pad Thai just tasted like pan fried noodles. The red curry didn't have much flavor at all. Disappointing, as we've had great Thai food all over the country in our travels. On the bright side, The portions were very generous and the shrimp in the pad thai were jumbo and very good, not overcooked.
Would not go back. Very slow service. Sat with empty cups a couple of times. Ordered the fried dumplings, they were bland, previously frozen and mushy inside. Pad Thai was ok at best flavor wise and way too many bean sprouts. I feel I had more bean sprouts than noodles. Also ordered Pad Ga Prow flavor was good. Something did not agree with my stomach and immediately was sick, like really bad. Banana fried dessert had a ridiculous amount of whipped cream. Would definitely not recommend or go back.
I have to be honest: the food was not great. I see all of these 4+ star reviews, and they are unfortunately misleading. The staff here were super friendly and did a nice job, but the food really lacked flavor and was not cooked correctly.
Half of the broccoli in garlic sauce with beef was ice cold and the other half was warm. Beef was tough and dry. Attentive and friendly service.
Beware: bring your own condiments! They charge you for hot sauce and duck sauce who knows what else. Cons: The food here was horrible. The spring rolls were extremely greasy. Had to use napkins to soak up the oil. The pad Thai begged for flavor. No eggs, no bean sprouts, no scallions or flavor. The pineapple fried rice with duck was ok. The duck is not fried. The service was as equally as horrible. I had to get our own utensils and go to the bar for a refill of my club soda which was charged twice. The atmosphere was sterile. No music or ambiance. Pros: none! What could be better: everything or don’t show up. Go somewhere else.
We are a Thai food loving family and we were in New Paltz for a visit so we went here for lunch. While the cafe is clean, warmly appointed and the service here was good, the food was sub par at best. While the curry sauces were tasty, all dishes containing any type of meat were not good. We can only guess the proteins are precooked ahead of time and thrown in as the food is prepared later. With the exception of one person we all had chicken in our dishes. The chicken in each dish had an odd flavor and tasted precooked and was very dry. Shrimp also tasted precooked and was overcooked by the time the dish arrived. We do not recommend the Bangkok Cafe unless changes are made to the way food is prepared. At this time, we have removed this location from our dining list.
Busy, but not loud. Friendly wait staff. Food was very very salty. Not the nuanced Thai we're used to. Maybe an off night? Probably won't return though, there are so many other options.
Food tastes like it’s been thinned out & watered down so not as flavorful. Eneryone is nice but I came for good food. Unfortunately, I left in search of better Asian food in New Paltz.
Never been to a Thai restaurant where the food turns out awful. I’ve attempted giving Bangkok Cafe a try multiple times, across a handful of dishes, to see if I’m just ordering the wrong things. The ingredients are cheap, the flavors are subpar, and you get grossly ripped off. The tom yum kha is a joke - it looks like flat, white colored water; why are there huge chunks of BELL PEPPERS in there? $1 to “upgrade” your protein to shrimp and you get TWO pieces of small, rubbery shrimp total? You’ve got to be kidding me. There’s also the obvious and sadly overwhelming taste of pre-minced garlic in nearly all the pad/noodle dishes. The beef in the pad see ewe is so dang tough. To request anything extra, eg. vegetables, is to pay $3-5 more for ESSENTIALLY not getting anything extra. The Thai tea is way too sweet. I really wanted to support a local spot but this restaurant misses the mark on many fronts.
It was one of the worst meals I had for a while. Chicken was dry and not tasty. Fried rice was nothing special. But here is the kicker, I didn't feel well after. Same with my friend. Will not return.
My husband's and I had reservation for 7:00. We arrived 10 minutes earlier. We waited 50+ plus minutes and still our food didn't come out. Other patrons who were seated after us all were served food. We finally walked out at 8:00pm. I will never return.
Just went here after skiing all day. Received the most dry fried chicken I had in my life. 1/10 it was actually dog food
Had lunch today there the first time with my spouse based on a friend's recommendation. Unfortunately, very disappointed indeed. Absolutely a bad experience with all the food we odered. Super dry chicken in the soup and chicken wings, as well as with very dry pork in the main course. I could tell that the meat had been too long in the fridge by the taste, not to mention of very salty using too much soy sauce understandably to cover unfreshness. We hardly finish one fifth of the order and asked for the check. Highly NOT recommended for this Thai restaurant. I have to admit that it is the worst Thai restaurant I have ever had so far. My TOTAL REGRET to have walked in. Also, both my spouse and I got stomach ache about 15 mins after we left the restaurant that we suspected from the meal. No idea how it got those five star reviews on Google!!
