Opinions de Don Angie New York
I'd like to start by saying, this was an extremely difficult reservation to obtain. Probably the most difficult reservation I've ever had to get. I was extremely optimistic about what my experience may be like. We started with the stuffed garlic Flatbread. It was sensational, the flavor was tremendous and extremely delicious. We then got into the chrysanthemum salad and a special of the day. They were both delicious and exceptional. We then had the lasagna and Japanese sweet potatoes. I didn't think potatoes could he that amazing. It was a perfect bite. The lasagna was out of this world. We also shared a bottle of wine which was recommended by our server. We finished with the tiramisu, I did not expect it to be as amazing as it was. The service was also extremely good. They were always smiling and very knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance was just what you would expect as well. Overall, I would say this is a must try. 10/10. It is probably a top three meal I've ever had. It was worth the three months it took me to get this reservation. I recommended trying to go. It's worth it.
10/10 I loved San Sabino so had to try Don Angie. Stuffed garlic bread: this was alright, I wouldn’t get it again because there was nothing special about this dish. Chrysanthemum salad: one of the best tastiest and tangiest salad. I loved the tang and the cheese combo of the salad, would order every time I visit Buffalo milk caramelle: I wish we got two plates of this. We were a table of 5, and I could have an entire bowl for myself. The texture was perfect, and perfect blend of sweet and not too sweet. Garganelli giganti: this was too similar to the lasagne. Both tomato based taste and it was okay. I didn’t think it was anything special but a very classic Italian dish. Our lasagna for two: very delicious and I would also get this again and again. Black cocoa tiramisu: not a traditional tiramisu as it is more flakey, but I would eat at don Angie again just for the dessert
Don Angie's totally lives up to the hype! I had been waiting to try the lasagna, and it was definitely fantastic. Crispy on the edges, hearty from the sauce and cheese, and overall so satisfying! We had the chrysanthemum salad and sweet potatoes as well and both were also delicious. The tiramisu was unique and excellent as well! Don Angie's is a memorable meal! The interiors are clean and cozy and the service is personable, friendly, and attentive too. Would highly recommend! Don't wait - try getting a reservation now!
Fabulous experience. It's so hard to get a reservation here, we ended up lining up 1 hour before opening on. Tuesday and snagged a seat at the gorgeous bar. Service was lovely and the drinks were incredible. We had the cheesy garlic flat bread, the chrysanthemum salad, buffalo milk caramelle, Japanese sweet potatoes and the famous lasagna, every dish was amazing! The restaurant is so beautiful and the food is so delicious it's absolutely worth the fuss to get in here.
This restaurant is an absolute must when in NYC. Located in the west village, it's home made lasagna is incredible (and I'm Italian). It's shareable for two and can easily be devoured by one hungry individual. The pasta is so fresh it melts in your mouth. We started with the Caeser Salad to start and it was also very tasty, shredded with parmesan cheese. It's difficult to get reservation on Resy during high seasons, so try contacting them if this is the scenario you're falling into. I can tell a restaurant is great at service when they change your starting plates and cutlery, while also wiping the table and setting new cutlery down. That's the level I look at and this place does it flawlessly. Great job to the Don Angie team.
Most times, when there is so much hype about the latest trendy restaurant, you are best off not buying into it. Don Angie is so very deserving of the excellent reviews and accolades. From the moment you arrive, the entire local is alive with positive energy, appointed tastefully with comfortable setting and low lighting. We were greeted by the AGM, Caden, who was so very helpful in assuring our reservation for my wife's daughter's birthday celebration (yes, Caden, she is still talking about it!) And our server, Tania, was perfect with suggestions and recommendations. Folks, the service and ambience do take a back seat to the creations offered by the chefs. Flavor abounds with every dish we selected. And the combination of texture, flavor and seasoning provided sensations the likes that I can say were truly unique. The Buffalo Milk Caramelle was spectacular! After our evening of dining, I had the opportunity to speak at length with the GM, Matt, who was so open and personable. His positivity and demeanor permeate the entire staff, as witnessed by Mike, taking a moment from serving to snap a few shots of our family, telling us even more about the facility. I have to say, we were so very impressed with every aspect of this wonderful establishment!
We had a great experience at Don Angie, tasty food and great vibes. The stuffed garlic flatbread was a flavor explosion, with crispy bread, gooey cheese, and garlicky goodness. The rolled lasagna was a masterpiece, with delicate pasta layers that were both crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and a perfect balance of rich tomato sauce, wheeped robiola cheese, and savory meat. The staff was friendly but the service was too slow and not in part with the quality of food.
Getting a reservation here was not an easy task, but absolutely worth it. Their chrysanthemum salad and lasagna dish was even better than I expected. I also tried the Japanese sweet potatoes and stuffed garlic flatbread. Everything was delicious! Don’t forget to save room for their tiramisu, best I’ve had. Thank you Nick and Dennis for Great service and shoutout to the bussers and runners for elevating our experience.
This place deserves all the hype! Everything we had was great and reasonably priced. We went as a big group so we were able to order almost everything on the menu and share all of them family style. The highlight was the caramel pasta, which is only available when the pastry chef is in, so make sure you don’t miss out when they have it. Other recommendations are their famous lasagna for 2, the chrysanthemum salad, spicy cantaloupe & coppa, and the grilled pork shoulder. I’m not a big fan of their tiramisu, but the strawberry sorbet was such a great surprise with its refreshing hint of basil
Don Angie was such a delight. Everything we ate and drank tasted marvelous and the staff was amazing. The highlights for our table were the salad, the sweet potatoes, the lasagna and the tiramisu, but honestly, everything was delicious. Definitely worth it if you're able to get a table!
Don Angie was everything we could have hoped for! We were lucky enough to catch an online reservation 1 week before my birthday trip to NYC. We are from southern Michigan. We started with the Chrysanthemum salad. The taste, the crunch, the cheese and dressing!! Everything!! Do not skip on this salad. The Buffalo Milk Caramelle pasta was to die for! We opted for the Lasagna and sweet potato side (sooo good and crunchy) . For dessert we topped it off with the Peach Basil Sorbet and Tiramisu (yes the cornflakes are true). Every bite, every service interaction, was 10/10! Highly recommend.
This place is a great Italian restaurant! 🇮🇹 Don Angie serves a nice selection of delicious 🤤 dishes 🍽️ - definitely get the Chrysanthemum Salad! 🥗 The Chicken 🍗 was OK. Staff 👨🍳 is friendly and professional, ambience 🎶 is wonderful, the place is beautifully decorated 🛋️, and service is quick. ⏲️ Arrive early as this place tends to get packed 👥 quickly. I wish I came here sooner!
What an amazing choice! The lasagna here is hands down the most delicious you'll ever try. The service is exceptional. And let's not forget about the mimosas with blood orange - they're a delightful twist on the classic ones. If you're considering booking a table, go for it! ( if you can find one :) )
I came here more than two years ago and still regularly think about the great experience we had. While the famous lasagna was great, the standout items for us were the chrysanthemum salad and the bbq calamari (pepperoni fried rice was divine). The stracchino gnocchi also had great texture. Tiramisu at the end of the meal is also a must. Not too sweet and very creamy. The most surprising aspect is if you come with a group, the cost is very reasonable (~$50 per person). That’s a great deal if you compare it to how expensive other nice New York dining experiences are. Highly recommend.
I was fortunate enough to get a reservation here for a second time. The food is incredible and service impeccable. Their chrysanthemum salad is delicious, and so unique as I have not seen many Italian restaurants have them. I love their twist on the tiramisu as well! It’s crunchy/flakey rather than the spongy cake that’s more traditional. I highly recommend this place. Reservations open 7 days in advance right at 9am. Set your alarms!
First time dining here for lunch, and it couldn’t have been better. As always, Chef Angie, Chef Scott and the entire back end staff delivered food that was truly exceptional — but what made the meal unforgettable was the experience created by the front end team. Alex R. greeted us with genuine warmth that immediately set the tone, helping us settle into a great table even without a reservation. From there, Alicia C. took over and was an absolute standout: kind, upbeat, and wonderfully attentive. She even noticed how much we loved the Calabrian chili and made sure we had plenty with both our appetizers and entrées. That level of thoughtfulness elevated the entire meal. Don Angie is a gem not only for its remarkable food, but for its incredible team. Thank you, Alex and Alicia, for making our visit so special. We’re already looking forward to coming back — and bringing new friends along with us.
We had an excellent experience at Don Angie this weekend. We were lucky enough to get a reservation for my wife and I anniversary. From the first interaction with our waitress Daniela- who was excellent, we were pleasantly surprised. We were given complimentary glasses of Prosecco to celebrate our day, which was a very nice touch. The ambiance was very nice as well, elegant but casual at the same time. The food was phenomenal, the garlic stuffed flat bread, chrysanthemum salad, and lasagna were all incredible. Dessert was absolutely delicious as well, we had the Tiramisu which was unbelievable. We also had the Mochi which was also really good. Literally every aspect of our visit was on point. Just want to say thank you again to the Floor Manager Mara who went out of her way to make sure we were satisfied, and the whole staff who helped make our night. We will be back!
ngl i was really skeptical after an extremely mid experience at carbone, but came here for lunch and it was such a good experience !!! service was fast and the noise level was kind of perfect lasagne and tiramisu were some of the best i’ve had, i def see the hype the chrysanthemum salad was also shockingly good. flatbread was decent the rest of the pasta dishes (gnocchi and chicken thing) we got were fine but wouldn’t get again. we came in a group of four and didn’t do drinks, and it was like $60pp
Tried the TikTok viral restaurant. It used to be a Michelin one-star in 2021 and 2022. Although it has lost its Michelin star last year, I still think it’s my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC so far. Had a fantastic experience here! The salad turned out to be a game-changer. As someone who typically shies away from salads, Don Angie's version won me over with its unique flavors and freshness. Each bite was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to excellence. Don Angie lived up to its viral acclaim. My friend and I walked in at 9:15 pm, and we got seated in 20 minutes!! Strongly recommend this way of dining.
Last night was our first time here and everything about this place was amazing!!!! My partner had the pork chop dish which was amazing! We had the garlic bread and the BBQ calamari which was amazing! We couldn't leave without trying the lasagna dish. The desserts weren't as great as I thought it would be and service was okay. The food though, it was amazing!
Don Angie is a meal to remember, if able to grab a reservation it is well worth the time and money. Inside packs the old school italian joint feeling while having a modern touch. The service was attentive and helpful, and the food is the main attraction with every dish being perfectly executed. The salad and the lasagna are absolute musts! Cannot wait to make my way over again. Also get the Tiramisu! It is amazing best one I have ever had.
Absolutely phenomenal food at Don Angie. We went in expecting a good but overhyped spot and walked out with an all-time top 5 restaurant. Service was incredible — Bobby was very friendly and accommodating for our table alongside giving many recommendations. Firstly the drinks were amazing. It won’t be as good as dedicated top speakeasies/cocktail bars, but much better than any generic cocktail lounge. Tied best espresso martini next to Dante’s. The chrysanthemum salad was very unique. The leaves had a sweet and floral taste and the dressing prepared for it paired well to add a bit of extra base. The garlic flatbread was honestly the highlight of the meal: the cheese melts in your mouth and the flaky bread becomes one flavorful orb are you chew it. The pistachio pesto pasta was amazing. The sauce was acidic/citrusy with a savory, but not overpowering, pesto flavor. The pasta itself tasted and had texture of noodles freshly made. I’m not a fan of gnocchi but this one literally dissolves in your mouth (barely any chewing required). However the sauce it was cooked in literally unlocked a new flavor for me that I had never tasted before. It is hard to describe: something like creamy, full-bodied, and herby. To finish the meal, the black cocoa tiramisu was heavenly. Not overly sweet at all with a deep cocoa flavor. The cantaloupe sorbetto was also a great dessert for a hot summer day — and on the sweeter side contrasting with the tiramisu.
4.9 stars! The chrysanthemum salad was the bomb! All of our dishes were great including the BBQ calamari, lasagna, mussels, and sourdough pastas. We had all three deserts offered and they were fantastic too— especially the strawberry sorbet. It was simply the best I have ever had. Our server was delightful and efficient. I’d consider this a can’t miss.
I happened to nab a Don Angie res at 2 pm on Sunday for 10:30. This is good. It’s a toss up between torrisi and this for my favorite Italian. We got the chrysanthemum salad, garlic flatbread, buffalo milk caramelle, sourdough pasta, steak Al limoncello, lasagna and sweet potatoes, Peach sorbet. Everything was delicious. The salad was a cool take on Caesar which I love, the flatbread was light and cheesy and steak was citrusy, fresh and juicy. The lasagna was really good nothing I haven’t tasted before. The presentation was cool and the pasta was a better quality but flavor wise it didn’t taste very different to homemade lasagna. The sweet potatoes was the most shocking. I hate them normally but it was really good so must order in my book. The pastas were really good but I actually preferred the sourdough. The caramelle was very cool looking and interesting tasting but a bit sweet to me so not my favorite. Definitely would go back. The sorbet however was a total miss. Not creamy, very icy and tasted a bit savory with the pepper. Highly recommend skipping. Next time I would try that lobster. Service was really good and they let us eat a half hour early.
Do i really need to say much here? Everyone knows Don Angie is phenomenal! Not an easy table to reserve, but I've been lucky as a walk-in a few times. One of the best little restaurants in one of the best neighborhoods in the whole wide world.
Excellent Italian restaurant. Pastas were amazing but the salads were even more memorable. Rolled Lasagna was really impressive but we liked the black and white pasta even better. I never seen chrysanthemum salad in any other restaurant but this unique salad should be on more menus. The whole menu is pretty unique. The peach salad was really on point too. Highly highly recommend.
After giving Don Angie a second visit before sharing my thoughts, I can confidently say they did not disappoint. The food was truly outstanding, each dish was crafted with care, flavor, and authenticity. I thoroughly enjoyed indulging in my meal during Sunday dinner. A special thank-you to the very polite hoestess and Matt, the manager, who personally welcomed me and went out of his way to help secure my reservation in person. That level of attentiveness speaks volumes about the team’s dedication to guest experience. It is clear that Don Angie takes hospitality seriously. From the quality of the food to the warmth of the service, everything reflects their commitment to excellence. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with a refined palate and appreciation for exceptional cuisine. I will absolutely be returning. Don Angie continues to deliver authenticity, consistency, and high-quality dining.
Best dinner ever! The chrysanthemum salad was mind blowing! The wine suggestions for our pasta dinners were spot on and the tiramisu dessert - incredible. What really took our experience over the top though was the hospitality. Tonya was our server and Eric assisted. They were a perfect team and we were so happy to be in their care. Although it was very busy they still made time to make our experience special. We also saw them handle a challenging customer nearby with kindness and dignity. As regular NYC tourists we like to hit all the highlights. Donangie is one that will be a regular stop for us and we cannot recommend it enough.
After trying multiple times to get a reservation, we finally got lucky with a lunch reservation on a busy Sunday at Don Angie and their staff especially Kelsey and Lydia made our experience and stay really fun. Our order included STUFFED GARLIC FLATBREAD ($16) and CHARRED BROCCOLINI ($14) as appetizers / sides. Undeniably, one of the best garlic flatbread we've ever had. Our Pasta's included STRACCHINO GNOCCHI ($28), SORPRESINE & SMOKED MUSSELS ($27), and a custom made Garganelli for our little one. Pastas were very tasty and the Gnocchi flavor profile was beyond brilliant. Come here for their excellent service, fantastic food, and their cocktails which seemed to be flowing out of their bar with high frequency!
Had an amazing birthday dinner at Don Angie! The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. The service was top-notch, with an attentive and friendly staff who made the night even more special. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, perfect for a celebration. Can’t wait to go back!
Very overdue review. 😊 My partner and I dined at Don Angie in March 2025, and I’m finally writing this in December 2025. The food was excellent and unique. It was fun to have something that felt like a creative take on Italian rather than strictly traditional, without feeling gimmicky. Service was polished but warm and relaxed, and the pacing of the meal felt just right. The ambiance is lovely. It felt intimate and fun, and the windows on both sides made it enjoyable to look out onto the street and take in the energy of the neighborhood. Deserving of five stars. Thank you, Don Angie!
Tried to walk in on a Saturday in September around 4:35pm - they said it was a 10 minute wait; we were seated by 5pm. I was very surprised how easy it was to get a table on a weekend night (again, go early!). Delicious espresso martini, lasagna is a must try - the flatbread was incredible and tasted a bit like a scallion pancake. We also split the cauliflower which was great and not too spicy. Service was a little bit lacking - the waiter seemed unbothered to help us, it felt like he had the air of "you're lucky to be in here". He did not come over to take our drink order until we had been seated for at least 15 minutes. He also barely checked on us, and did not seem attentive. This is somewhat disappointing, especially given that we spent close to $250 for the meal. Despite the poor service, I would say I recommend a meal at Don Angie - the food is worth it.
We ate the MOST delicious gnocchi I have ever eaten here! It’s listed on the menu as Stracchino Gnocchi: Broccoli Rabe, Crispy Garlic, Sharp Provolone. Although we didn’t order it, the stuffed garlic flatbread ordered by other people sat at the bar looked and smelt really appetising. All the food we saw other people order looked amazing. Sat at the bar to have a glass of wine & something to eat after a very busy day in the city. Highly recommend.
There are certain restaurants where it is almost impossible to get a reservation, or you can wait in line for two hours to get in. The question is always “Is it worth it?” In Don Angie’s case, the answer is a resounding “Yes!” We walk past this place all the time, occasionally “peek in” (and are always disappointed), but the Restaurant Gods were shining upon us yesterday and magically there were two seats at the bar open. We went in and of course ordered their best known items. And they weren’t just good it was “best ever” type stuff. The lasagna was the best thing ever, even better than Carbone’s, which I didn’t think possible. And the famous chrysanthemum salad was incredible. Not as famous, but the crudo was amazing. And then the tiramisu was like the best dessert you’ve ever eaten in your life, a very different take on the concept. All these items, even the lasagne, are presented in highly original ways. The service was extraordinary, the wines as well (try the pinot) and the atmosphere wonderful. The place is very small but very well staffed. So yes - go here before you die - it really is “that good” and went far beyond our expectations in all respects. It lost its Michelin star two years ago but I would choose coming here over any 3 star place in New York, it’s much, much better and more memorable. Two hours in line is like nothing.
We truly stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and had no idea it was such a sought-after spot in NYC! My dear friend was in town to celebrate her birthday. We had three other restaurants in mind in the West Village, but each one had already closed its kitchen. We ran across the street into this place and asked if they were still serving food. We even had to ask the host what kind of food it was and the name of the restaurant! 🤣 Thankfully, two guests at the bar had just finished, and the friendly host quickly cleaned the spot so we could sit. From the moment we sat down, we had the most memorable experience. Our bartenders, Dylan and Nick made us feel completely at home. Dylan gave us fantastic recommendations, including a secret menu item and surprised us with custom cocktails. Later, Nick took over, and it was so much fun chatting with him and Dennis throughout our meal. We shared several incredible dishes: the famous Chrysanthemum Salad, Spiced Orata alla Griglia, Sourdough Pesto Pasta, and Japanese Sweet Potatoes. And if you can snag a few pieces of the bread that comes with the famous lasagna, it’s absolutely orgasmic and perfect for soaking up every last bit of sauce! We barely had room for dessert, but the Black Cocoa Tiramisu was worth every bite. I don’t usually choose Italian restaurants, but this one completely exceeded both our expectations — the flavors, presentation, and textures were phenomenal. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Thank you to Dylan, Nick, Dennis, and the entire team on 11/04/25 for making Misha’s birthday extra special. As long as I’m lucky enough to snag a seat again, I can’t wait to come back!
It was aaaaamazing so say the least!!! I've been dying to come here and finally get to come omgosh!! Super hyped!! My friend was able to get a table for doing walk in at 3:30pm on a Friday. We were added to the waitlist and it was a 2.5 hr wait but this was super worth!! They're also super hard to make a resy - never able to see it 7 days in advance at 9am. Someone pls give me tips if you do know the trick! We order the 2 most popular items and it was the best decision ever!! Although a little much for 2 people but we still finished it!! - lasagna 6/5: it was just amazing! Right amt of sauce, meat and pasta texture, a lil crispy on the top - just perfect - lobster 5/5: superbbb creamy, the pasta and salad went really well with it! The drinks were a miss though! So would prob pass on the drinks next time we go
As always, Don Angie is the most incredible culinary experience — the food is outstanding, unique, and special. The service is unparalleled and the staff leads all their actions with kindness and attention to the guest experience. It is always such a special occasion to join them for a meal and I certainly hope to be back soon! Dish Highlights: The Japanese sweet potatoes and the chrysanthemum salad are MUST gets. The BBQ calamari were a unique and yummy app. The sourdough pasta cacciatore never disappoints, nor does the shell steak al limone or lasagna for two.
We scored a reservation for 4:15pm for a part of 4. We arrived on time and were seated pretty promptly. Where we were seated initially was pretty cramped and we realized fairly quickly it just wasn’t going to be comfortable for us. When we asked if a larger table that wasn’t so close to neighboring tables might be available we were quickly and graciously accommodated without hesitation. We ordered stuffed flatbread, chrysanthemum salad, buffalo milk caramelle, calamari fried rice, sourdough pasta cacciatore, steak limone, and the ravioli for the table to share for dinner. Our party also shared the tiramisu and pear sorbet for dessert. Everything we ate was a home run, not one bite missed, not even a little. Also worth mentioning, every dish was measurably different from the next, Don Angie plays many notes on our palates it seems. The atmosphere is upscale but not uptight.
Decent vegetarian options for appetizers / pasta. Was able to grab a seat at the bar when they opened with no res. Cocktails and everything we ordered was very delicious, and fairly quick service. Very nice atmosphere, didn’t feel too crowded / loud despite restaurant being almost at full capacity. Would definitely come back to try more dishes here (:
TLDR: Vibey steakhouse with some incredible non-beef options, but somehow not as memorable for me as other spots in the City. Continuing on my non-beef, non-pork eating tour of NYC’s steakhouses, finally hit up Don Angie thanks to a friend. Couldn’t try as much as I wanted as it was a work event (+ some items like the calamari had stuff I couldn’t eat) but, from what I had, the food was all very good. Sweet potatoes were cracked, broccolini was dope, gnocchi / mussels / chrysanthemum salad too. Really enjoyed the fish, but did think desserts were somewhat of a letdown after all the hype. Service and ambiance were mad vibey - would def still come back at some point.
Don Angie is something I dream about on at least a weekly basis. We were lucky enough to dine there in 2022 and then again December 12th, 2025. Once again, they’ve secured their spot in my weekly dreams until I get the opportunity to *hopefully* dine there once more. The staff is always unbelievably friendly, accommodating and have the best recommendations. The food both times was even more than exceptional! The chef’s care about what they are putting out, and you can taste it in every bite. The thoughtful textural differences in every single dish and outstanding flavor is something our whole party couldn’t stop raving about! We feel truly lucky to have experienced Don Angie twice.
Second visit and just as incredible as the first. We had the lasagna and chrysanthemum salad again—both flawless and absolutely worth the hype. The lasagna continues to be a standout. This time we also tried the scallop crudo and the sourdough pasta cacciatore. Every dish was excellent. The pasta had beautifully balanced flavors with subtle olive brine and perfectly seasoned chicken. The scallop crudo was fresh and delicious, though the portion was small and left us wanting more. We enjoyed a great bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and finished with the black cocoa tiramisu, which was the perfect ending. Overall, a 10/10 experience and a restaurant that truly lives up to its reputation.
Was able to walk in to Don Angie on the Fourth of July - knowing it was a holiday weekend when people would be gone and most folks who stayed would be on the other side of Manhattan watching the fireworks 😏 We had to wait a bit for the table, but it was worth it. We sat outside on the side under some scaffolding, the only reason the atmosphere is docked a star, but we didn’t mind too much. The waitstaff was friendly, attentive, and recommended a bar for us to go afterward. I got the Margherita drink, quite tasty and refreshing in the heat. We shared the Chrysanthemum salad to start - it was good, but nothing special imo, so probably wouldn’t order it again. Then came the lasagna 😍 which was simply spectacular! Would come back for the lasagna alone, but also looking forward to trying their other apps and desserts.
We had a double celebration for our anniversary and son’s birthday. We all enjoyed the mouthwatering food. The place was packed but the wait staff were at their best. The very friendly and sweet chef came to our table, greeted us and took photo with us. It was an amazing and a memorable experience!
Don Angelo in NYC is an absolute gem. The pasta lasagna with crushed pistachios was heaven on a spoon—the sourdough pasta literally melts in your mouth, and anyone would love it. I ate every single bit of the stuffed garlic flatbread, a started you cannot skip, and I was almost full when the entrées came! The cauliflower was a total table-favorite; everyone kept reaching for more. I despise salad, but the chrysanthemum salad changed my life. I loved it so much I basically gulped it down in minutes. The vibe is super fun, and even with a lot of people inside, the noise level wasn’t bad at all. The music was great—nice without being annoying or boring. And honestly, the service from Micah made the entire experience even better. Amazing energy, super kind, and really on top of everything. Highly recommend!
The hype surrounding Don Angie is real. Everything, from the service, to the vibe, to the food was amazing. The lasagna and the Caramelle are the stars of the show, but the Chrysanthemum salad and the flatbread are also great. Drinks and service are wonderful and I would eat here every week if I lived in NYC. Hands down the best meal I have ever eaten in my 50 years in this planet.
I’ve been meaning to eat at Don Angie since they opened in 2018 or 2019, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Getting a reservation is tricky but doable — they open a week in advance at 9 AM, and spots go within seconds. If you want a table for Friday or Saturday, check the same day the week before, refresh right at 9, and make sure you’re logged into OpenTable with a credit card on file. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting, perfect for a date or a small group. It’s lively and a little loud, but in a fun way. I chatted with the table next to me for recommendations and ended up trying several of their favorites. They had the same sentiment about the lasagna as me, it was the only dish that remained in their table and they didn’t finish. Which says a lot. The infamous lasagna was beautifully made and worth trying once, as its really easy to share, but I personally wish the sauce was better balanced, had more meat and less tomato sauce. It’s flavorful but a lacks meat as in many restaurants, heavy on the cheese and sauce for my taste. Everything else we ordered was excellent: the Spiced Orata alla Griglia was perfectly cooked and full of flavor; the Japanese Sweet Potatoes were fluffy with a creamy sauce; the Scallop Crudo and Pineapple & Coppa were light, refreshing, and full of layered flavor; and the Stuffed Garlic Flatbread resembles a naan, was a must-order — soft, warm, and so good we ordered two. For dessert, we tried the Tiramisu and Mochi. Both were about 3.5 stars for me. The tiramisu had a crunchy filo-like pastry layer and more sponge than mascarpone, which threw off the balance — I prefer a creamier, classic version. The mochi wasn’t my favorite either; it felt out of place on an otherwise Italian-focused menu. I think Don Angie could improve their dessert selection overall. Still, I’d definitely come back — the food (especially the starters and mains) was incredible, the space is cozy and stylish, and the whole experience felt like a true New York gem.
Don Angie absolutely lived up to the hype. We came at opening on a weekday and were able to snag bar seats right away. The compact menu is full of creative Italian dishes, and everything we tried was outstanding - the Tonnato Vitello combined veal tartare and tuna carpaccio in a well balanced and savory bite. For pastas, the Sorpresine with Smoked Mussels was very umami, while the Buffalo Milk Caramelle with black sesame and candied kumquats was refreshingly bright. Even the Japanese sweet potato side was a highlight - beautifully crisp and fragrant. Every dish felt intentional and creative, and I can see why this spot gets so much love. Can’t wait to return to try their signature lasagna next time.
We took all of the recommendations from our wonderful waiter and wowwww was this place worth the hype! The lasagna of course was the star of the show but I was most impressed with the sweet potato’s! A definite must visit, get in line at 3:30pm and put your name in, definitely worth it!
I was able to get a lunch reservation a week in advance on OpenTable and it was worth it! Everything was delicious and lived up to expectations. We ordered the chrysanthemum salad, calamari w/pepperoni rice, caramelle pasta, and the lasagna to share and everything was beyond expectations. The calamari really surprised us, but the salad is a must order. The lasagna is delicious and the portions are huge. The bread it is served with is amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant as “worth it” if you’re trying to get a reservation: keep trying!

My favorite restaurant in the US. From the lasagna to the tiramisu, the chilled wines, the atmosphere. It's impeccable.
Absolutely loved my experience at Don Angie! The atmosphere was vibrant, and the food was exceptional—especially the lasagna! Can't wait to come back and try more dishes. Highly recommend!

pasta very good meat top Italian aubergines eaten so only in Sicily. nice and delightful environment. nice staff. one of my favorite michelins from new york
We came in at 4:50 and were able to get seated right away. We had the scallop crudo, lasagna for 2, garlic bread, and pork shoulder. The scallop crudo was the perfect balance of sour, sweet, and savory. The pork chop was slightly dry in some areas but had a good flavor. The lasagna was good but wish it had more noodle in the noodle to sauce and cheese ratio. But the buttery garlic bread that came with it was the perfect compliment for the extra sauce.
Special shout out to the door man who let us know how to get a reservation. The bartenders were very pleasant and patient. The ambience is great, we were at the bar and everyone there were also couples; A great date spot. Food was a bit lackluster.
We had the Chrysanthemums salad to start which was very cheesy for a salad. The Sourdough Pasta Cacciatore was nice without being amazing and the lasagne for two was good, my partner enjoyed it due to the nostalgic flavours of a homemade lasagne. We had to try Black Cocoa Tiramisu which I do enjoy because of the rich chocolate flavours.
The place has an old-school restaurant vibe. I wished the tables were a bit farther apart from each other; it felt quite packed and the tables being round didn't help. We were seated right next to the bathroom, and they were always people waiting to use it. All this just didn't quite create that level of comfort I sought. The food was pretty good. Maybe the lasagna was overhyped for me but I did expect it to have more texture, with its rosette patterns and the top being broiled. Instead, it underdelivered on texture. If you're used to sautéing slices of day-old lasagna to make them crispy, you may be disappointed like I was. We didn't try any mains. We only tried the pastas and they're creative and delicious. This place is definitely worth the visit.
Finally scored a reservation at Don Angie after MULTIPLE attempts! They’ve switched back to OpenTable—reservations drop 7 days in advance at exactly 9AM, so set those alarms. I snagged a Sunday 4PM spot, and surprisingly, the restaurant was pretty empty. Honestly, it seems like walk-ins are very possible. This is a solid 4 star spot for me. I genuinely loved every appetizer we ordered: • Stuffed garlic bread – Rich, creamy, and loaded with garlic. An absolute must order! • Chrysanthemum salad – Totally worth the hype. Crisp, refreshing, and the shaved parm adds just the right touch. • BBQ calamari – Tender, flavorful, and served with crispy rice for the perfect crunch. Loved this! Mains: • Grilled pork shoulder – A bit dry and the beans just didn’t pair well… The pork was a bit bland. • Lasagna – The famous lasagna… I was really excited to try and wanted to love it but I have to say it was a letdown… The Italian sausage bolognese was overly salty. It was underwhelming! • Charred broccolini – Decent side, meh. But let’s talk about the tiramisu—WOW. Easily the best I’ve ever had. Not too sweet, perfectly crisp layers, and that touch of sea salt? Chef’s kiss!! Would I come back? Hell yeah! I’d return just for the apps and dessert alone.
The restaurant is bustling no matter which day and time of the week. The food truly deserves five stars. The chrysanthemum salad was a nice surprise. Don’t sound so appetizing but turned out to be delicious! The refreshing leaves paired so well with the crunchy nuts and creamy sauce and cheese. The iconic lasagna is differentiated from a regular one in that it’s lighter and has a nice structure - very thin sheets of pasta that preserves chewiness, less salty meat sauce and a satisfying amount of cheese. The mussels pasta has a nice tangy taste, balances the lasagna nicely. The service was a bit rushed because they were trying to turn our table. Waiters came to ask whether we were done many times even though we were just one hour into the meal. The noise level was a bit high, had to raise my voice to be heard.
It was very hard to get a reservation here. When they open up reservations at exactly 9am they always ran out right away. We were finally able to land one and we were very excited to try this spot out. Sad to say, i think there’s better food places that’s easier to get to. The food wasn’t bad. It was well balance. I would recommend the chrysanthemum salad and the lasagna. The lasagna was very well balanced and fits my flavor profile. The prices were alright it’s not too bad considering NYC. I feel a little indifferent about the service just because i was observing and there was no consistency with the servers. One person was giving exceptional service (ex. Asking if they have any allergies, are they celebrating anything etc) and some were just there to get orders. I would go again to try out the different pasta but other than that it wasn’t as enjoyable as i expected it to be.
I revisited Don Angie after a long time — my first visit had left me hesitant due to an awkward seating experience. Back then, we were a party of five and asked about a large open table. We were told it was reserved, only to see another group seated there as we were leaving — after finishing dessert, coffee, and tea. It left a bad impression. But I’m glad I gave it another shot. The service was genuinely warm, attentive, and thoughtful. We tried a wide range of dishes, starting with the stracchino gnocchi, which was pillowy and rich with just the right touch of provolone and crisp garlic. The BBQ calamari was smoky and perfectly tender, brightened up by a tangy herb labneh and seasoned rice. The grilled sea bream was beautifully cooked — flaky and delicate, with a lovely balance of saffron, almonds, and fennel buttermilk. We also had the Japanese sweet potatoes, caramelized and sweet in the best way, and the stuffed garlic flatbread, melty and flavorful without being too heavy. The tonnato vitello was classic and well-balanced, with tender veal and a smooth, not-too-salty tuna sauce. For dessert, we finished with the tiramisu. The cream was slightly saltier than expected, but still enjoyable and satisfying. The food was consistently excellent, and despite the tight seating — tables are still very close together — I left feeling really happy I came back.
This restaurant is one of the most hard-to-get reservations right now. Liked their lasagna for two and chrysanthemum salad, but everything was too salty. The lasagna came with some breads, which helped. Loved cocoa tiramisu. Service was great and atmosphere was cozy and nice, but a bit tight between tables.
Had a great time at Don Angie! The lobster, deconstructed meatball, and Caesar salad were all 🔥—seriously some of the best bites I’ve had in a while. Huge shoutout to Alicia, our amazing server—she made the whole experience even better with her energy and attention to detail. Now, I gotta keep it real… the espresso martini wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it still hit the spot and kept the vibe going. Overall, would definitely recommend—especially for a special night out or if you’re trying to impress someone with your taste in restaurants 😉
The strong highlight here was definitely the buffalo milk caramelle, it was such a unique, stunning, and delicious dish. Everything else, however, was just very “okay”. While it didn’t meet the expectations set by its hype and the difficulty securing a reservation, it was still a positive experience overall.
Got a reservation here for the exclusive Chase Reserve event. It was packed! My favorite dish was the mussels. Very different taste, great pasta, and just delicious. My second favorite was the tiramisu as it was very different and crunchy. I thought that the bread and other pasta dishes were good, but they were quite thick dishes. There was a ton of flavor with each but the dishes were so thick with ingredients it created a ton of confusion with textures and tastes. The lasagna had a soft and hard texture. The lobster wasn’t just lobster meat. As long as you’re prepared for a ton of flavors and don’t want just traditional Italian, you’ll enjoy this beautiful venue.
We had a wonderful evening of delicious food and wine at this busy Italian restaurant in a great location in the West Village. Host was so pleasant, which is a great start. Pasta was made with high quality ingredients. The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is the service was a little slow and there is one restroom. Other than that, I highly recommend this establishment.
I have been waiting forever to get in to this place, the wait was worth it as it lived up to every expectation or exceeded it. Ate a late lunch/early dinner off of the dinner menu and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the lasagna, salad, and veal. The only reason for the 4 ⭐ on the food is due to the Garlic Flatbread. It was a little soggy with lots of flop. The rest of the food had great taste although slightly over salted. Still well worth the visit.

The famous Don Angie in the west village: My cousins held my kids graduation party here. We literally ordered everything as the pictures in my review indicates including cocktails and alcohol. Just as a preamble, I grew up in Brooklyn and have lots of experience with Italian food on all levels. Overall summary: All of the flavors including their famous salad and lasagna for 2 is decent, but nothing fantastic; but I think the portions are small for the price. But if you're prepared to pay $$$ to $$$$ for decent Italian, i m sure you will enjoy it. If you look at the picture for the Lasagna for 2 that is cut vertically and served on its side at 6 pieces surrounded by ricotta, at the price of $68, which is on the level of a mid range Rib Eye at a steakhouse, that dish would not serve 1/2 of any Tony from Brooklyn let alone serve that for 2 ppl. So decent flavors, small on portions for high end pricing, but in the west village, that is on par, but 3 stars for me.
for its reputation I was expecting much more … the food was fine, nothing amazing that blew me out of the water. just unfortunately an overhyped online place that relies on its extreme exclusivity to create hype. TLDR good Italian food but not worth the hassle and the price tag. wouldn’t come back but beautiful interiors!
Their cuisine is best described as Italian fusion with Asian influence, if you're looking for a traditional Italian cuisine, this restaurant is not it. Calamari dish is really blackened/Cajun fried rice with a few calamari pieces and thai basil leaves. Their veal dish was a thin piece of fried breaded meat, with prosciutto cuts and veggies on top. No sauce to balance the dryness. The lobster for 2 was good as was the pasta dish that came with it, however the salad did not have any dressing not even olive oil. The scallops dish was good, tasty and lemony as was the fish with clams dish. Some of their pasta dishes are heavy on the sauce but they don't provide any bread to scoop it up. When we ordered the flat garlic bread, it was really a large cracker with garlic paste. It was the first Italian restaurant that we've been to that they don't serve bread as part of the aperitivo. Their saving grace is their service, friendly staff in a clean restaurant.
Honest rating from someone that has tried restaurants up and down Italy, manhattan and Long Island. This was pretty good Italian American food for sure, but I hope people don’t think they’re getting “authentic” Italian food like they would in Italy. It’s far from that. I usually don’t bother writing reviews but when a place is deemed “3rd hardest reservation to get in the nation” I think people want to see honest opinions to see if it was worth the effort. The food, crammed nature of the restaurant and degree of difficulty to secure a reservation make this place not really worth it. I won’t really get into food opinion because what I like and dislike is specific to me. But there was nothing here that I feel like I couldn’t get at other places in the city. A nice place to try if you can, but don’t go crazy.
With Don Angie’s reputation, the food should be life-changing. However, it was really just…good. Not great. First, the restaurant is SO loud and the tables are incredible close together, someone next to us getting out bumped into our table. Yes the salad was good but way too much cheese. I know the salad is known for being covered in cheese but it doesn’t add to anything. The sweet potatoes were good. The sauce should’ve cut the sweetness but added to it, making me only want to eat a couple. Either use a different sauce that’s more acidic or regular potatoes. The steak was easily the best thing we had, but again, did not need the sauce and was good on its own. The lobster was good and to us the lobster pasta/meatballs stole the show. But it actually had a little spice. Everything else needed something or had too much sauce/cheese. Maybe I’m a purist, but we felt the restaurant was just trying to hard and the natural flavor of the dish was hidden. Tiramisu wasn’t anything special.
it's one of the hardest place to book, but i was able to score a reservation for first seating lunch on a Friday. I was told by the host that there are many seats outdoor that's for walk-ins. so make sure to come line up to get a table , especially on nice days out. The food did not live up to the hype. It was satisfying but nothing was impressed . the lasagna , as italian known as "Roselline al Forno" is over-priced. it's good but not memorable. Chrysanthemum salad is a dish you dont want to pay that much to get it here. stuffed garlic bread is delicious that was unexpected. the veal is over cooked and dry. talk about most over-priced dish here is BUFFALO MILK CARAMELLE, the portion is so tiny, only like 8 or 9 ribbons in such a small piece. it's only just appetizer size dish Tiramisu: probably one of the worst take of this dish ever had. the Mascarpone is very mininum which is a let down but there are too much crispy feuilletine. i wouldnt mind a little crispy layer but it's a bit too much. white peach sorbet is a very good dessert instead . Service is great. our water has never been empty for more than 2 minutes.
The place is tiny. Tables are almost elbow to elbow. But that’s OK. Service was great. Very attentive staff. Personally, foods were nothing extraordinary. I only wanted to try their round-shaped lasagna but we ended up ordering more. We tried chrysanthemum salad, sopresine and smoked mussels, chicken scarpariello, lasagna, and fior di latte mochi. Chrysanthemum salad was too sour for me. Sopresine with mussels are OK. Scarpariello is good. I took one piece and that’s it for me. Lasagna was OK. I wish there’s more sausage meat. Mochi was very good. All in all, it’s a good experience. It took a little bit of time to get reservation but one visit is enough for me. Kudos to the staff! They’re excellent.
Tough reservation, big expectations. The salad stole the show. Had to send the chicken cacciatore & gnocchi back because it arrived lukewarm, but the service was fantastic and everything served hot afterward was delicious. Credit where it’s due. Wouldn’t rush back but happy to check this one off the list. Shout out to our server Dennis for the great service.

Came for dinner with friends. Hostess was VERY rude while we waited for our party to fully arrive. She expected us to be grateful for being in the establishment instead of being grateful for a customer. I regret not leaving because of her attitude and arrogance. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about. I don’t understand the hype at all. Good was also very average. The only thing that is saving this place from being a complete waste of time was my amazing server. She was kind and knew all about the menu. I wouldn’t recommend coming here at all.
Horrible rushed service! Food was nothing special ! Their famous lasagna was salty , steak lemon was TOUGH!! We were celebrating a birthday and we were so disappointed at the treatment we got, they wouldn’t even let you finish one course before they were shoving the next course down your face. We decided to spend our hard earned money in a different establishment for dessert we will not be returning
Honestly don’t understand the hype. I’d been so excited to finally visit Don Angie after months of seeing great reviews online, but felt everything was seriously mid. The signature lasagna tasted like pasta and sauce out of a jar and was superbly salty. The chrysanthemum salad was the only good dish. Courses were so rushed - we sat down at 6:30 and finished dessert before 8pm. Service was cold at best. Again, honestly dont understand why this place is so popular!
We got to experience why they lost their Michelin star, I guess. Our $68 signature lasagna was cold, undercooked and to me, possibly unsafe to eat. I see a few other recent reviews say the same. Not willing to take a chance on food poisoning, I informed our waiter. Service & management handled it so badly it was absurd. Against our wishes to not have it sent back, our barely touched dish was taken from us then the remains returned, reheated in minutes to lukewarm. Now even more sure of not risking food poisoning, we refused boxing it up to go. Our neighbors got the same dish well cooked and hot, and they said so. The waiter explained to us it was a recurring problem due to ‘newer ovens’, after being told there wasn’t a manager on and insisting on contact info for one we were suddenly introduced to a manager who said the waiter’s remarks about the ovens were untrue. Who to trust? In the end all we were offered is a $14 credit for a $68 dish by the waiter and not the manager, for a dish that was inedible, and pushy and contradictory explanations. It’s sad. Some of the food here is fantastic and delicious and it’s a nice space. But the difficulty of getting a reservation is not worth this amateurish passive aggressive hostility. The overall sense we get about Don Angie is: they don’t care any more. It feels they want to get you out the door quickly to free up your table. That means disinterested service to hurry things along as other reviews note. Unfinished dishes are almost taken away without asking, plates arrive in a barrage with no timing, and at one point we were forced to move some of our food we were still eating. Never even asked if we wanted another drink. I mean that’s just lost easy money? It seems to me their high demand has lowered the bar on the care given to serving and cooking the food, for higher; faster turnover. It’s embarrassing. I hope the chef owners take notice I’m not the only person saying these things. But as long as the crowds keep coming, they don’t need to be great. I’m sure they won’t respond to this or reach out because I believe they just do not care other than rushing guests so they can drop their checks before they’re finished eating so they can cram in more covers a night. An awful disappointment & gross experience. Michelin was right to take their star.
I thought a lot of the food here was very inventive and delicious but the service here at the bar is really some of the worst I’ve seen in NYC. We were ready to order immediately and the man there took 10 minutes talking with the other waiter. We were served the two pastas and sides all at once which was annoying but fine. The candy pasta “buffalae” was the best dish by a lot. The chrysanthemum salad and sweet potato were good as well. The lasagna was overrated and honestly a little cold because of the way they brought it out. Our server immediately and weirdly abruptly tooled the last bite of buffalae when me and my partner had our head turned and it was really annoying. Lots of good bites and flavor there and he threw it away super abruptly. I’m very annoyed by this and honestly the service here was a major turn off for a high end restaurant with food at this caliber. They are well staffed and equipment is there but the staff members at the bar are not carrying their weight. For this reason more than the food I would rate this not as one of the top Italian restaurants in New York or Manhattan. This is the worst service I’ve ever had paying $100/person for the meal and worst service I’ve had in nyc in years. It was really disappointing. We have eaten at the bar at many of manhattans finest restaurants and it’s generally a similar experience to table side but that wasn’t the case here. The two people next to us also had a similar complaint. It was actually a bit difficult to talk to them and hear my partner because the bartenders were yapping with each other so loud but not even with actual people at the bar like you might typically see.
I’m writing this with genuine frustration and confusion, and I’m not trying to be that person who tries to dislike the place everyone else seems to love. As a foodie, I was very excited to try this place after hearing such great things. Unfortunately, I was left annoyed by how underwhelming the food was. To be clear, the food isn’t bad — it is good. But considering how difficult it is to get into this restaurant and how hyped up it is, the flavors are surprisingly underwhelming. After weeks of chasing OpenTable alerts that disappeared in seconds, I finally got a reservation — and honestly, no one should feel bad if they can’t get in. The food is not worth the hype or the effort. The fact that people fight tooth and nail to get reservations here is baffling. The space is tiny and cramped, which I could overlook if the food delivered. The chrysanthemum salad was great, and the garlic stuffed flatbread was solid. But the famous lasagna — $68 — was shockingly bland. I was waiting for the a-ha! moment that never came. Even the garlic bread was soggy with an odd aftertaste. The sourdough pasta and Japanese sweet potatoes were good, but forgettable. With respect, if you consider this restaurant to be one of the greatest, you may need to go out more, your tastes might be simple, or you might be convincing yourself it’s amazing because of the hype. Overall: good food, but absolutely not worth the hype, the chase, or the price. I wouldn’t return or recommend it. I’m writing this review for anyone struggling to get a reservation — it may be disappointing that you can’t get in, but you’re not really missing out on much.
