Opinions de Flor De Mayo New York
Very good food, it's like a Peruvian/Asian fusion, and they nail it. The service was good, and very quick, we didn't wait long to be seated. The restaurant itself is pretty nice, it can seem overcrowded but they did a great job with having enough space for everyone. Not too bad price wise, and it's definitely worth it for the quality and quantity of good you get. This place is great when you're in the city.
The ambiance is cozy and elegant at the same time. I felt like I was dining in a five-star restaurant.
I loved the prompt service & attentive staff. I Went on a Monday night it was quiet ,about 4 other couples . Causal Dress *jeans sweater Flats, the food selection is Peruvian , Chinese , Spanish & great Combos. I selected a Combo of Fried rice Chinese fried chicken, Salad & fried Sweet plantain about $20 give or take, IT WAS AMAZING . The ambience is very basic but cool for a real causal date, they had a full bar, I did not partake (but it looked very nice). The area Had Metered parking right out front and regular non paid parking in the blocks . The best part was this being such a Cool spot to eat at such a late hour on a Monday it closed At 12am that day. Hope this was Helpful.
I’ve been coming to this restaurant for 25 years ever since I was 4 years old. The food has never changed! Always delicious always fast, hospitable service. 10/10 recommend!
Absolutely love love love this place. Extremely great atmosphere smells delicious. Food delicious and the customer service omg Very hospitable I mean love it. Drinks 10/10 sure to be lit. I had the watermelon martini LOved it. Lucas the waiter was Great and so were the others
Be prepared to wait for a table if dining during peak hours. I dined solo the night before the New York City Marathon and had a delicious meal at the bar. This restaurant is pretty busy but efficient with a friendly bartender and staff. Meals are reasonably priced and healthy; there's so much diversity. Quite the fusion of Chinese and other cuisines. They accommodate any food allergies.
I loved this place! I ordered the 1/2 chicken with Moro as part of the lunch special, and it was great! Unlike most chicken I get, it actually was fully flavored, the inner and outer meat both having the signature peppery taste. The Moro was also really good too. Plus, they gave us mints with our check (I mainly made the review to mention that 😅) (I really love mints)
Been coming here for over 12 years now. It’s such a staple of mine every time I’m in New York. It’s a must do. There are times I wake up thinking about the fried rice. And the service is always friendly and quick. What a treat to eat here. I always get the squid ink fried rice, pollo a la brass and Lomo saltado. Even the butter with the bread is so good! Also get some of the amazing specials.
Had an amazing time last night celebrating my son’s birthday here. Great food and drinks! Will def visit next time I’m visiting New York.
The Chinese style squid fried rice is soooooo good. It uses squid ink and the texture is just perfect. The portion is really large. We also got the steak & fried stir fries. The taste is good too but all the dishes we ordered were a bit too carby so we couldn’t finish it. The yuca fries was a nice surprise. The yuca was naturally sweet and not dry at all. Definitely the best yuca fries I have had in NY
Luis was an amazing server! Food was really good 10/10
This is my favorite restaurant in NYC…which may sound crazy because there are a lot. Service is fast and friendly, they remember me and some of the staff have worked here for a long long time. Stories of famous nights out in NYC include this place. OG and very strong Nutcrackers 🥜 🌰
This is one of my all time favorite places to eat! The food is great , the vibe is perfect, the drinks are good the service is very attentive. Sometimes theres a wait but even when they say a certain wait time you’ll wait half of that time. Would definitely recommend the lomo, the chicken, HOUSE SPECIAL FRIED RICE, HONESTLY EVERYTHING ON THE MENU IS GREAT.
I hasn't been here since working nearby so few years..let me tell ya..the food is still slamming. Delicious, and the staff was friendly, even helping out with the menu.
Food is always good here, I have visited this place a bunch of time and it's always good.
I was taken here on my anniversary date and I had no idea what I was walking into! A Chinese/Peruvian fusion food spot! There was a bit of a wait, about 30 minutes, since it's a popular spot! Everyone on staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, with not just our waiter checking on us, but several members of the staff. This place claims to have been the inventor of the Nutcracker. With how delicious it was, I have to believe them! I has the Pina Colada version. For all you sweet drink lovers you'll definitely enjoy it! My meal was the lomo saltado and I chose to have the house special rice. To think that Peruvian food and Chinese food would go so well together! I would recommend this place to anyone !
The food was Good, Unfortunatly I order base on other person’s choice, but it was ok in terms on flavor, not salty … no over seasoning. Overall flavor was good!
Had a fantastic meal at Flor de Mayo! The fusion of Chinese and Peruvian flavors was unique and delicious. The lomo Saltado and chicharrones de pollo were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The portions were generous, and the staff was friendly and attentive. A great spot for a casual yet flavorful dining experience in NYC!
The food here is always 10/10 the rotisserie chicken is always crispy and delicious, and the rice and beans are always hot!! The little onion sauce is DELICIOUS!!! The LOMO SALTALDO is the BOMB! I absolutely loved it! It’s flavorful and makes the food super super good! I definitely recommend this place! Also the prices are really really affordable!!
Lomo Saltado! I would greatly appreciate it if you could like my review. This is our preferred dining location whenever we visit Manhattan. We are confident that the food will always be delectable and fresh, and the service will be exceptional. I have been a regular customer of this establishment for many years, and they have consistently exceeded our expectations.
One of my favorite restaurants. The food is always delicious, the service is wonderful and their drinks are legendary. Definitely worth a try if you've never been.
Food was fantastic, I love the different the culture mix between Asian and Peruvians dishes. The drinks were great, had the house made lemonade and strawberry lemonade. We went for the Lomo saltado which was amazing. Service was great, I had to stop drinking water because every time I drank from the cup, the waiter would fill. The atmosphere was ok, a little noisy but that’s understandable for the time of place it is. Highly recommended for a delicious Lomo Saltado.
Went to lunch with a friend. We were seated promptly and service was consistent and attentive. The food is delicious and I'll be ordering takeout in the future.
Very good... I had the rice house special with steak w/ onions and avocado salad...Very, very good. I also like the way they plated the Avocado Salad.
Haven't been here in many years. My favorite was the steak sandwich and they dont serve it anymore. Ordered a few Nutcrackers, chicharron de Pollo and some yuca frita. Food was great, drinks really really strong. Great mix of Peruvian and Asian cuisine. This place is still very unique.
Delicious food all around! The ají de gallina was fantastic, creamy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The maduros were absolute perfection, caramelized just right. Service was friendly and attentive, and they were so accommodating, even adding an extra person to our table last minute without any issue. A great spot for comforting Peruvian dishes and a relaxed, welcoming vibe.
I found this restaurant because I was looking for Peruvian Chicken and boy did this place exceed my expectations. This is a Chinese/Peruvian fusion so their menu is quite extensive. My family of 5 loved everything they ordered, service was friendly and timely. Would definitely come again!
i usually go to the location on 86th street but this location is just as great! the food, the drinks, and the people were all so good and lovely. menu highlights were: broiled pork chops, the shrimp soup (my all time favorite), squid fried rice, and can never go wrong with some piña coladas.
I absolutely love the food at Flor de Mayo restaurant. The service was great and we received it fast. The food tasted fresh and was hot. They have a wide selection of food, and all the dishes I have tasted are delicious. It’s hard to locate parking, but I highly recommend it when in the area. It’s a must try 😀
This place is an absolute gem! The food is consistently incredible — a perfect fusion of Chinese and Latin flavors that leaves you craving more every time. The drinks are just as amazing, perfectly crafted to complement the vibrant dishes. Yes, the wait lines can be long, but trust me, it’s completely worth it. The energy, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the quality of the food make it clear why people are willing to wait. I’ve celebrated multiple birthday parties here, and every single time has been unforgettable. The staff always makes sure everything runs smoothly, and the experience keeps me coming back. I can’t wait for my next visit!
TLDR: If you've never had Chino Latino - you're depriving yourself of some crazy good stuff. Large portions, even larger flavors. Broiled pork chop, lomo saltado, squid ink fried rice, seco de res. You're welcome. I've been eating at the Amsterdam location for years but recently I've been coming to this one. It's a family run spot with a full Chino Latino menu. Think a collision of Chinese and Peruvian/Spanish. They've got some straight up Spanish things, totally Chinese and in between. For starters, definitely try the papa arequipena. It's a Peruvian potato either cold or fried with this red pepper sauce and hard boiled eggs and olives. It's a very unique flavor. If you're there on the weekends, grab the shrimp stew. It's an ultra tasty shrimp soup with rice, corn, a bit of spice. The broiled pork chops are probably my favorite pork chops anywhere. They're brined incredibly well are dotted with chopped garlic that caramelizes under the flame. It's so insanely juicy. Squid ink fried rice is a must. It's a squid ink coated fried rice with ham, shrimp, pease and a unique ginger flavor. The lomo saltado you definitely need to get. Sliced steak in a stir-fried sauce with onions, tomato and french fries on top of rice. The other items I'd recommend are the seco de res, a cilantro-centric tender beef stew. The tallarin verde is a Peruvianish pesto pasta, it's great with the garlic shrimp. No matter how much good stuff I've eaten, Flor de Mayo is in my list of restaurants I love going to and bringing visitors to. It's something that's tough to find but it's a testament to the melting pot that NYC is.
I recently dined at Flor de Mayo, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic evening. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and truly accommodating. The staff made us feel welcomed and ensured that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. The food was absolutely incredible, showcasing the rich and flavorful fusion of Peruvian and Chinese cuisine that Flor de Mayo is known for. We ordered the Lomo Salteado, which was a standout dish. The beef was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The mix of spices, fresh vegetables, and savory sauce created a perfect balance that made each bite better than the last. The dish was beautifully presented, and the portion size was generous, leaving us completely satisfied. The drinks were another highlight of the evening. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic cocktail or something more adventurous, the bar at Flor de Mayo does not disappoint. The cocktails were expertly crafted, with just the right blend of flavors to complement the meal. They added a nice touch to the overall dining experience. Overall, Flor de Mayo exceeded all expectations. The combination of amazing food, outstanding service, and delicious drinks made for an unforgettable night. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a casual dinner or celebrate a special occasion, Flor de Mayo is the place to be. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu!

Food was good portion for price but nothing to rave about.Disappointed to have ordered yucca fries and garlic sauce was just minced garlic from a jar.Not fresh.Veggies in rice were cooked well & fresh except the mushrooms.Waiter was nice but stretched too far for the whole restaurant.Had to wait awhile to get water & refills. He did his best.Atmosphere is dated.
I am Peruvian. This is good “comida casera”. I enjoyed the Lomo Saltado + the pollo a la brasa with plantains (pictured). Latin comfort food. Portions are large!! Good for sharing. I don’t recommend the ceviche mixto …it’s a far cry from the classic Peruvian ceviche mixto. Not enough lime, and the onions were cut way too thick, fish used for the ceviche was just ok. Was disappointed in that dish. But the hot plates are good! I’d come back for more chicken + to try the chifa!
Another childhood favorite of mine!! Traveled from Florida to bring my wife and unfortunately the service wasn’t as good as I remembered but the food definitely was hence the four stars!! I’m glad the food was good so it didn’t ruin a childhood favorite !! But come on guys how do you guys run out of bread right in the middle of dinner time for us but the table sat ten minutes later gets bread?? I also have to ask for water several times... Get it together and earn your tips!! Literally only wanted to tip the chef!!!
Good food, good vibes! As a vegetarian I wasnt sure they would have something for me. They had Lomo Tofu. The tofu was bland as is expected from most restaurants. They just don't take the time to make it tasty. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his lomo saltada steak. Pina colada had the right amount of alcohol to give you a light buzz. Food came fairly quickly. Bathroom had no hand soap. Most items cost close to$20 so expect to spend between $40 and $50 per person for a meal and drink. Appetizer not included in that price.
The prices are a bit expensive but the portions are huge!! I got the lomo saltado and it was a massive portion, enough to eat half there and take home the rest. My partner got another dish (forgot the name) and she also could only finish half, taking home the rest. The service is friendly quick and efficient as well
Very good, inexpensive Peruvian/Chinese food. Here is the thing: do *NOT* get adventurous with the menu. Instead, keep it simple. Get the the rotisserie chicken with the rice or sweet plantains. The drinks are also very good. Get the Nutcracker, for which this place is very famous. This is an Upper West Side staple.
Mastercard and VISA only. 15% gratuity for parties 6+ Decor: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 A bit cramped and packed inside. There is a round table near the fish tank that seats six comfortably. Service was excellent, they were very attentive and constantly cleared the tables. The dishes didn't take long to come out also. -Aquadito rice soup with cilantro was a great starter. It is a comfort dish and goes great with their tasty bread which is unlimited -Plantains are large, plump and delicious -Whole chicken was moist and seasoned well. The vinegar dip adds another layer of lfavor. -Paella was less than stellar. There was too much rice and just a few pieces of seafood and protein. Excellent value. Total came to less than $19 per person including tax and tip. We even had leftovers to take home!
Florida De Mayo has been a staple of the community. It's one of the few still standing. It's been there more than 20+ years serving the community their Chinese Latin food. Part Peruvian and Chinese this location has something for everyone. Regardless of your preference you can not go wrong at this location or their sister location.
Love the food and the options, your able to choose Spanish or Chinese food or both! The drinks are strong. Price for two ppl with 3 drinks and two entrées and a side was $116 which wasn’t bad since they also give you a complimentary bread, soup and salad with your meal. The service is great even when it gets packed, all the tables were full and our waiter amongst other employees always made sure we had everything we needed. Lastly this is not a fancy manhattan restaurant where you need to be dressy, you can wear anything your comfortable in which I love. Highly recommend! Will be going back
Overall, it is a good place to eat for many people on a budget. The service I will say is phenomenal. They are quick to sit you and take your order. They come around and check several times and will keep your water cups filled. Excellent in explaining what is served and also understand Spanish very well. Where it lost a star was the lack of ANY dessert and the cooking of the vegetable on the special meals. I ordered a flan only to find out it was sold out last minute. My companies ordered king po chicken and shrimp and both plates came with undercook vegetable. Although the sauce got great reviews the large plate was mostly disguised with vegetables that was more raw than cooked. Will come back again but will stay away from the special plates that might be filled with more undercook vegetable.
portions were very generous especially for the price! i had the aji de gallina which was really good but nothing beats the way my dad would make it 🙏🕊️ my friends got the lomo saltado & said it was great. they don’t take reservations but we were a party of 4, came around 8:50 pm & it was less than 10 minute wait. staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. i would definitely recommend! no ramp though for wheelchairs & someone else had a stroller had to carry it up about 3 steps of stairs :(
We went to this restaurant wanting to try something different, and it definitely delivered. Food was top tier, drinks were amazing and the service by the staff was awesome. My only concern was it was kinda cold so we could take off our jacket and get comfortable. But hands down great experience. Will definitely be back in the summer time tho.🤞🏾
The food was good, not a bad price. Still caught me off guard that the plate of Broccoli was as almost as much as the half chicken. I really like the variety of the menu and the presentation of the food. My friend and I were grateful that this place was open on Christmas, but the restaurant was cold. It probably sat around 40°F. I wondered "Where is the warmth? It is below freezing outside." I asked the waiter if they served hot water, he just laughed and said "no". Now I thought he was joking so I laughed a little as well... But he never did come back with that hot water. Other than that the service was pretty quick and also respectful. Anyway as it turns out all of the heat was concentrated to the front of the restaurant where most of the staff set up.
The food was okay HOWEVER DO NOT go here during the WINTER..! It was so cold we had to eat with our coats and hats on!! They also had the ceiling fans ON, I had to request for them to be turned off. …

I usually like the food here. It has in the past been flavorful and even a bit exotic. I was quite shocked to see a pricey dish like Chinese fried squid ink rice be so poorly executed. Im not sure who is in the kitchen. But the taste is reflecting skimlation. Which, money being what it is today and eating out more of a treat. I just did not get what I paid for. Not happy.
This Peruvian-Chinese restaurant is a great find. I started with the fried Spanish sausage, which was absolutely delicious. For my main dish, I went with the shrimp mofongo, and it didn't disappoint--served with large, juicy shrimp. I'd definitely come back to explore more of their extensive menu.
My coworker convinced me to eat here for lunch... he said they had the best original nutcracker and the food was good. Although I did not try any drinks on this visit, the food was just ok, under seasoned and boring. Maybe the alcohol would've made it taste better. Not a place I would visit again for food... but I will have to come back to try the drinks. I had the pollo de chicharron with tostones.
My food came out fast and tasted great, the place was packed and crowded and the seats were old and also uncomfortable , the place needs renovation, I kinda did not want to be there, will not be coming back, I also noticed since it was full or idk if that’s a regular thing but people will be asked to leave once they are done eating to give the table to the other waiting by the door.
Honestly beyond disappointed the place has a long wait you would imagine the food would be amazing but no, the A la brasa chicken taste weird has a aromatic flavor which isnt for everyone, the menu is pricey and not really worth it, atleast the drinks are strong , but the place is very fast Paced, you will have no peace people constantly passing by you, and staff trying to get you in and out to seat more people its A MESS ! I will not be coming back
Neighborhood fixture serving up Chinese Peruvian including roast chicken, fried rice and noodles. Great friendly staff with fast service. The savory food is so-so, and tends to be overly salt especially the soup and entree. Plantains however, are nicely prepared, and the complimentary bread rolls are warm and tender.
I’ve now been to both locations over the last 5 years. Several times. It’s been 50/50 with the good/bad experiences. I’ve given up on this hype, though. Most of the dishes are average to good, on their best days. On their off days, they can be average to poor. But, when you’re spending close to or over $50 on two dishes, it’s a dealbreaker. Eating here is part of the experience. I have yet to do so there’s a chance it could be better than takeout? Not for me though.
Not really happy this place lost the greatness it had many years ago ordered a chicken fried rice with veggies. It was close to 17 if I'm not mistaken which was expensive. The amount of food was shockingly small skimpy serving of veggies they used one head cut into 4 barely had any real veggies and the chicken was the same small amount and smelled horrible! You smelled the chicken u know the flesh smell I know what I ordered but you're not supposed to get that fleshy smell when you're eating your food from the meat . I do not recommend for you to order chicken fried rice with vegetables.
I always sit down and eat but this time I ordered to go. No bread, the steak had no color or taste the cook seem to be having a bad day or they rush the takeout orders. The house special fried rice only had one shrimp when you first open the box.
I used to love this place, but then this year I developed a Gluten allergy and when I asked my server which meals are (or can be made) gluten free he had no idea. So I tried to order the safest option, a rotisserie chicken, and they said it had gluten in it. It seemed like none of the staff knew anything about the ingredients. It’s ridiculous to work in a restaurant and not know which meals are allergy friendly.

Service was good. We tried roasted chicken and lomo saltado (see picture ). The chicken was ok. The lomo saltado was off, not cooked properly, the fries were saggy, the onions were not crispy, the rice was kind of fishy, the meat was not good quality and the tomatoes were extremely hard. It’s a simple dish hard to make. Perhaps my review is a little harsh; there was no sauce or kick to the lomo saltado. For dessert they only have flan. Glad I came to this place, and tried on my own. Def not coming back in the near future.
This place is not how I remembered it at all. The food came out way too fast, as if they just had to reheat it and it was so greasy, you can see the grease on the plate,I didn’t even eat half of it, left it behind,,,the bathroom was disgusting, graffiti all over the walls, smelled terrible and where we sat, you could smell the bathroom, the seats were ripped up, the place was just dirty and run down. Don’t waste your money here.
I never write reviews unless I can get a discount, but this place genuinely scammed me and my date, and my goal of writing this is to make sure they lose the money they scammed from us from losing future customers. We ordered the avocado salad, pointing at the avocado under the salad section and it was listed as $7.00 but when we got the bill, it was $14.50. The waiter said that because when he asked us if we wanted tomato and onion with that was double the price BUT where on the menu does it even say that. Even pointing to the most expensive salad with much more additional toppings that was $11.00 so at that point we knew they were just making stuff up to scam us. They said that for $7 that was just for sliced up avocado which in what right mind would you call that a salad. We also ordered the half rotisserie with french fries, and rice on the side, and we were clear to say french fries with the rotisserie chicken as the rice side was cheaper than the french fries. However, they switched it to rice with the rotisserie chicken and french fries on side so they can get an extra $2.50 from us. So be very careful at this restaurant because they will make up prices and switch a combo to make a couple extra bucks from you. It's the principle and I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Just buy rotisserie chicken from Costco at least you know it's $5 there. Also the wait staff was very slow filling up the water, many times we would finish our waters because the food was extremely salty and we would have empty water glasses. So even if you don't mind paying a little extra compared to what you anticipated based on the menu, you're going to pay later in life with hypertension (this is a joke but the food was very salty and high salt diets can cause hypertension), but at least they're slow with the water so you will not become fluid overloaded (also a joke) at the restaurant.
This place is so dirty!!!! Food is so oily! Horrible bathroom, seems like they never clean this place, definitely I won’t come back and not recommend for anyone
Food was oily and in seasoned.overall very expensive for such bad food would not recommend doesn’t even deserve one star
Great food and service but seem like managers pressure waiters to rush customers to eat and while you eating the staff stares at you
Wow I used to love this restaurant!!! What happened ?? I’m heartbroken 💔 I ordered a fish ceviche, I got lettuce and onions.. 2 pieces of fish… my palomilla steak was sooo dry omg.. what happened here???
Not what it used to be. Food was extremely mid. Fried chicken? Mid. White rice? Somehow mid. Beans? Tasted just like beans like no seasoning. Steak with onions + fried rice was the best thing I ate. But I’ve had just as good at the Chinese spot. The eggroll? A true fusion that idk what it was. Why does all the food have cinnamon? The Chinese spot where you pay $10 has better food. Don’t come here and pay $28 for it. Just go to your local Chinese spot. I’m now on the toilet sick just 15 minutes after finishing eating. The bathroom is gross and had graffiti all over it. Zero stars.
