Great diner, friendly and welcoming. Good food choices
I come often and grilled cheese sandwiches are always really good. Service is good too. Last night, I left my wallet at the cash register; they tracked me down and brought it to my door. Wow! That’s service!
Amazing food, huge portions, nice and friendly staff. Fair prices.
Really great service they went out of their way to seat us quickly, prioritize our food and get us in and out in 20 minutes when we mentioned we were in a rush. Really appreciated that attention! The food was delicious too with big generous portions
Very good food and big portion (for European). The waiter was super nice and friendly l! But the owners (i thinks) was very cold, almost we annoying them... I truly recommend !
Delicious food delivered quickly and packed perfectly. Best Diner on the Upper West Side
A well maintained old school diner on the UWS. Priceless, enjoy it while you can. Old school diners are going the way of the dinersaurs 😁
Absolutely lovely community space with delicious food! they had a free chili and coffee stand out at the street fair- love them & highly recommend!!!
One of the oldest dinners in the area. Consistently good food, great service.
Classic diner experience with food up to spec. Truly appreciate this place and hope to go back.
One of my favorite breakfast spots..they always make me and my family feel like home. The service is always prompt and friendly with incredible menu options. Definitely my go to for breakfast comfort foods.
I ate at Metro Diner many times. Last time it was during the Covid-19 pandemic and I sat indoors. Menu options, as expected and understandably, were limited but still plentiful. I ordered its Reuben sandwich with very crispy fries. The food was well above expectations. Service was quick and friendly. Safety measures were enforced effectively. I’m glad Metro Diner is still surviving despite the capacity restrictions.
Great place for dinner, I went with my family we were very happy with food, the quality, quantity and the speed that was prepared. The staff were very nice, I am very greatfull we found this place
This is my local diner and I LOVE IT. I’ve been coming here for years since I’ve been in the neighborhood and have never had a bad experience. The staff treat you like family and the food is so good. Excellent portions for the price and lots of options to choose from. Also, this was the diner on the hit show “Pose” so, make sure you check out the infamous booth in the front! 😉
This is a classic NYC diner with all the great things that make diners an essential part of the NY culinary scene. Crisp bacon, browned potatoes and rye bread are key to breakfast. Bottomless coffee is another. My only gripe…why no dairy alternative for the coffee? And what the hell happened to the Heinz ketchup? Asking for a friend.
I had ordered burgers delivered from here so I know they can cook. It was the 1st time I ever dined here so I decided to try something else. The chicken soup and cheese ravioli were quite nice. I also liked the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. The service was fast and the staff was friendly. It's good that I finally made it to this fixture on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Delicious breakfast food. The corn beef was kinda goated and pancakes were rather scrumptious. Great service and archetypal US diner atmosphere. Would definitely recommend
I always wanted to go to a dinner and my husband took me to this nice place. The food was very good. We ordered the avocado toast which comes with fruit, grilled cheese and pastrami sandwich and everything was very delicious except the lemonade which didn't feel natural. The service was excellent and without long delays. Everything was very clean.
Great service and they are so kind to my son who eats here frequently. The food is always good. Never had a bad diner experience at Metro.
One of the last of the great NYC diners on the UWS. Waiters and owners will stop and chat, but also have a sixth sense of who just wants to be left alone. The TV show “Pose” filmed here once with Billy Porter and co in a corner booth at the front, but it also feels like it could have been in an old school Scorsese film. Friendly, chill, great music of the 80s playing overhead. Wish it was still opened late like before the pandemic. Used to come after teaching night classes.
The food was great only got some cheese burgers but they were soo good along with the fries which was also great. The service was nice as well.
Came here to celebrate ny aunt's 62nd Bday.I ordered a Well done Cheeseburger,at end when Server ask how was all I did say it was good but i did ask for well done as I you see I send pink in some places. He rectified the situation but telling Chef he did t do well and send me home with another Cheeseburger. He said so sorry I said no worries I will come back and he did well by me.Yes do go the food is good And you feel so Diney at this diner!
We had our first lunch ( or any meal) inside the Metro Diner in over a year! And everything we ate was delicious. We sat socially distanced from the other guests. The manager reminded someone to put on his mask but did it in the most respectful way possible. We loved the service as well as the food!
Ordered take out, pancakes w/ turkey sausage & a side of fries. Everything was really good. They definitely have some delicious French fries. The employees are absolutely lovely & attentive. Would definitely go back and try other menu items and even dine in. Do stop by! ***Update*** Definitely went back. Had their chicken Parm with a side of fries. Which was really good. Their fries 🤤.
I came her with my bf to have a nice breakfast. We were immediately greeted and allowed to sit wherever we’d like. I’m new to NYC so I’m still feeling out places. I ordered the fried shrimp basket and potato skins. Yep for breakfast. I’m Southern. Don’t judge me! The shrimp basket came with a nice healthy portion of about 8 butterflied shrimp. Super crunchy and delicious. The potato skins were very large spuds cut in half with gooey cheese and bacon with a side of sour cream. Very filling on its own. The part that wowed me though was I wanted some cocktail sauce for my shrimp. I asked the server for some but he didn’t think they had any so he asked one of the owners. The owner actually went in the back and made me some fresh cocktail sauce for my shrimp— and it was sooooo good. They seem to know that service matters which is rare these days. I wasn’t even expecting it.
Eaten in here 10+ times, great value, fast, hot, hearty. It's our fav when friends or family comes to visit. I love breakfast the most but lunch and dinner you can't go wrong.
Great variety of food selection, extremely friendly and accommodating staff. Love many of their dishes la the Salmon bowl, Moussaka, breakfast meal will never be wrong at anytime of the day…😋
Perfect diner setup on the UWS. Walked-in at prime time on a snowy Saturday and got seated right away. Arnie, our server, was friendly and welcoming. Our order included small coffee ($2.95) with unlimited refills thanks to their attentive staff, California Omelette, Berry Waffles, and Huevos Rancheros. Food was as per expectation, pretty tasty and perfect portions! Noise levels on the lower end, easy to have conversations, and bright ambiance. Will be our go-to diner!
11/10 service! Waiters were so kind and let us stay past closing hour. They kept checking in to make sure that we were taken care of. Branzino, potatoes and asparagus were excellent. Will be back.
We ordered the roast turkey dinner for home delivery and it was delicious! It arrived quickly, was enough food for the two of us complete with stuffing, apples, mashed potatoes, gravy, dinner roll and veggies. Can't beat the price either. Highly recommend!
After a doctor's appointment, we wanted to eat breakfast. We google to find a place and this was the result. There was no wait time. The server was quick to serve coffee immediately. The location was clean, and the decor was nice. Tje food was served quickly, and it was good. I will definitely return.
Had breakfast here today and it's one of the better diners I've been to for sure! Breakfast is my favorite meal time and I had eggs, with crispy home fries, and crispy bacon! It was very delicious. The service was very good and the staff seemed very kind and friendly. Loved the ambiance of the place.
Classic old school New York diner in the heart of the Upper West Side. If you’re looking for that real diner feel this is the place to go. Booths with mid century modern and vinyl coverings, Formica or faux-woodtop tables. Everybody enjoyed their food which included banana pancakes (a big hit), waffles with strawberries, chicken tenders, a salad, and the veggie burger. There are not many choices here for vegans (hence the four stars) but the veggie burger was decent, though it came dry with neither lettuce nor tomato. Coffee was hot and service was fast and friendly. Prices seemed a touch on the high side but if you want a diner with all the traditional diner fare this is a great choice.
Whenever I travel to America I have to visit a traditional diner - this is my ‘go to’ on visits to New York and one of my all time favourites- the food is totally unpretentious, traditional and fabulously delicious. It maybe a little off the beaten track for most visitors to the city but it is 100% worth a visit - you will not be disappointed.
One of our top 5 diner experiences and tastiest food selections in NYC. My first time, sure won't be my last. The Cream of Turkey soup was a hit, the Chicken Scampi dinner was tasty, that strawberry Cheesecake was ahhhh-mazing, and the hot chocolate with Whipped Cream was flavorful (and satisfying on a cold day) 😋. The lemonade was great, homemade too! Fresh food, freshly prepared, attentive service, great location (within walking distance of trains) and not overly expensive. The foot traffic confirmed this place is a gem. 😌

It's gotten better across the board since the Pandemic. Worth a new visit if you've missed or avoided it, at very reasonable prices.
Usual diner fare with some healthy options. Multigrain pancakes, waffles. I had the egg white low cholesterol omelette with sliced tomatoes and rye. Smoked salmon omelette looked good too. Plenty of meats for those inclined as well. At this point in life I much prefer coffee with eggs and toast for n Sunday rather than a haute couture Benedict and endless mimosas a la DJ.
Overall, good experience. I've been there now twice for breakfast. The restaurant looks modern and service was good. Food is good as well.
Don't know about the dinner here but I had the breakfast and it was good. My wife and I had the French Toast with bacon. French toast fried well and the bacon nicely fried. Did not see it on the menu, but would like real Maple Syrup, I'd pay for it like other places offer. Overall I was happy and my wife was satisfied.
Delish food, service was friendly but had 4 people ask us if we were ready to order as soon as we sat down but that’s the only “issue” otherwise lovely experience
This is an odd one. Food is great, it has that old school diner vibe, but I think we were a bit unlucky with our waiter. He really didn’t want to be there and was more interested in his colleagues than his customers. Too bad, because the pancakes were perfect and the front of the house were very friendly.
Classic American dinner with all day breakfasts. My wife's salmon salad was generous in size. My pork chops were just what I wanted. Not too big and not too small. Cooked nicely and with fried onions, although I just realized that they forgot the apple sauce. The chocolate mouse cake was incredibly moist--one of the most delicious I have had anywhere. Our one complaint was that when the air conditioning was in it was blowing right on us and too cold. Still recommend Metro Diner.
Nice diner! I wasn't expecting much from this place but I was pleasently surprised. Service was nice, food isn't Michelin star but is good and there is a wide choice. My burger was cooked medium rare as asked and was tasty. Overal a nice place to go to which I think too many people miss out on, so give it a try!
Had a solid experience at Metro Diner. Plenty of tables at 8:30am, too. I ordered the huevos rancheros, which weren't bad. Everything was quite reasonably priced, too. I won't say it was a super memorable meal, but not bad at all!
If only they were open late. It’s solid diner fare. Nothing is amazing but nothing is bad either. The pastrami is above average for a diner. Burgers are solid as is most breakfast. It’s $$$ for what it is. Weekend breakfast will be packed, especially before noon. Service is fast, indifferent and efficient.

Fries are overdone and burger is *really* tough (both kaiser roll and beef patties are tough - the roll is stale, but I have no idea what is making the burger difficult to eat.) Cole slaw was awful. Service is good, and I have previously gotten ok food here - the chicken kabob last time was tough as well, though. I would think that the food was being overcooked, but it came out too fast to be overcooked enough to be tough. I believe the meats are precooked in the back and are then either recooked or microwaved before serving. For $16 for a burger, fries, and "deluxe" items (lettuce, tomato, and coke slaw,) I would have hoped for a freshly cooked burger.
What do you call a 'diner' that is only open 8 am until 9:30 pm? A mediocre restaurant. What is awesome about diners is that they're always there - reliable good food after a late night working, before an early morning flight, or to settle your stomach after a night out with friends. This has everything that's good about a diner except the most important thing - availability. Since it's competing only as a place to have dinner there are a number of better restaurants at a similar price point within walking distance. It should change its name to Metro Cafe
Since the renovation (and it looks beautiful) the prices have jumped sky high! The Service is great, but the quality of food I think has declined a little. Skimping on portions.
The Metro Diner is a very popular eatery at the corner of Broadway and West 100th Street in Manhattan. An established restaurant, it has been open for at least 25 years and I have walked by this place literally hundreds of times. My experiences regarding the food I have had here is that at times it is very good and other times nothing special. The Metro Diner does have excellent hamburgers with French fries, good salads and daily dinner specials in the $13-$20 range, plus tip. It is not noisy and it is a good place to have an enjoyable meal with family or friends.
Neighborhood Diner, of course Greek ownership. The food is good, classic American diner. The service is ok, nothing special, zero personality, I guess they can afford that, it was packed. Nobody greeted us at the entrance... the only interaction was: how many? The owner is always there and always looks upset...! I know it’s is a tough business, long hours etc. but life is too short, ENJOY!!
Food was not bad but over priced. Stick to breakfast and burgers. Atmosphere is cool looking but has a weird vibe.
The quality has gone downhill both in portion getting smaller and service. The waiter never asked me for a coffee refill and handed us the check right after our food was served. The pepperoni omlette used to taste so rich like a pizza, but now there's hardly any marinara sauce. Hueves Rancheros ($21) has small portion and only two eggs. It's not worth the price.

Sadly they don’t have any gluten free options, we’ve been coming for years and always ask but no toast nothing :(
The meal was fine but what really ruined my experience was to see the staff eat behind the counter while handling and serving food, we even made eye contact and the busser just shrugged his shoulders, continued eating and not caring about the empty plates in front of me. The lack of respect to costumers is what really ruined my meal, I understand the staff is young but they need common knowledge and decency with food handling.
