Opinions de Grays Papaya New York
Just had to try this NYC staple. Great hot dog for an even better price! And that papaya juice is something else! We were only in New York for a short time and with so many options to choose from we had a hard time narrowing it down. But we were happy Gray's made the cut! A must visit! Thanks for the lunch where we didn't have to break the bank!
I’m not usually a fan of fast food, but I had to try a hot dog while in NYC and this place didn’t disappoint. I had one and immediately went back for another! I kept it simple with just onions and ketchup, and it was delicious. So warm, fresh, and satisfying 💓
Gray's Papaya is a real NYC classic! Quick simple and convenient food, papaya juice was a surprising treat and a nice change to soda being the only option. Hot dog with sauerkraut was perfect!
Amazing place to get hot dogs and juices. It is insanely cheap and the food tastes equally good. I got a hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard and onions, was mind blown with the taste and freshness of it. I would definitely be a repeat customer and go there any time. Great service and very quick delivery of food
Classic food!!! Heard of this store many times since 2006 when I watched a movie and wanted to taste how the NY hotdogs with buns tasted like... For $7.50 two hot dogs in 2026, this is a steal of a deal with authentic NY classic hotdogs. Also the papaya drink had a flavor which I have never tasted before it is good !!! I would strongly recommend trying this store for its classy taste and feel.
Took my 15-year-old son to Gray’s Papaya (2090 Broadway) so he could experience a real NYC classic, and it delivered exactly like it always has. We both ordered the #2: two hot dogs plus a drink. I went classic with the Papaya drink and dressed both dogs with onions, sauerkraut, mustard, and ketchup. My son grabbed the Banana Daiquiri and went chili & cheese on both dogs. The best part? My son is not a papaya guy at all. Not the fruit, not the drink. He took a sip of mine and immediately goes, “Wow Dad… this is surprisingly good.” Then he demolished his combo and said these were possibly the best hot dogs he’s ever had. He loved his drink too. And yeah, the place is still the place: stand at the counter, no sit-down dining, and in winter you’ll see some wet floors from melted snow. For real, it’s not about glamor. It’s New York. That rough-around-the-edges vibe is part of that NYC charm. I’m honestly grateful this legendary spot is still here. It gave me a quick, perfect father-son memory in a city that keeps changing. Long live Gray’s.
Gray’s Papaya never disappoints. The hot dogs always hit — simple, classic, and done right. Onions and mustard is the go-to combo, and it’s exactly how a NYC dog should be. But don’t sleep on the drinks — the piña colada is a must. It’s cold, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the dogs, especially after walking around the city. No frills, no gimmicks — just consistently good food and a spot that always delivers. A true classic.
I don't understand the 4.2 note on Google for this. It is delicious (best hot dog I ever had, mention for the combo onions ketchup mustard which is delightful), quickly prepared and ridiculously cheap. Less than 15$ for 3 full size hot dogs and a large drink?? Special mention for the papaya juice which is my absolute favorite. Definitely recommand this place.
Talk about a MUCH better, REAL hot dog and NYC experience vs Nathan's. Sorry, Nathan's, but NO. Gray's Papaya is definitely what IT is all about and it is somewhere I could go back to over and over. It was quick, what you expected and food that tasted real (vs out of a can). I am not a huge fan of hot dogs, but this was so fun. I think it was about $7 for a soda and a chili cheese dog! #nycfood #nyc #grayspapaya #hotdogs
Had bookmarked this place for a while to try their iconic, inexpensive hot dogs. I was pleasantly surprised to see they also offer tropical fruit drinks on the menu. The hot dogs are indeed very affordable, and not just a plain sausage with ketchup; they offer several topping options. I really enjoyed the whole experience, fast service, good music. Definitely worth a stop to taste this classic spot!
Great dog joint located across the street from the 73rd Street Subway (look around when you exit!). When I visited there was a line but it moved quickly. While they only offer dogs and drinks, I found the taste and quality of both to be better than their frenemy (Papaya King). Note there are only standing counters inside and out, with a bit more space outside (keep in mind for cold weather). Saw that others mentioned the price: put it in context with a Sabrett from a dog cart ($7 at Penn Station), here you can get two dogs, dressed as you like, and a fruit drink for just under $9 (tax included)
This is a New York classic - a place that sells hot dogs for really damn cheap. A single one, with a bunch of toppings, is just around $3, and in an environment where every form of food prices have gone up - especially fast food - seeing something that can stick to tradition this well is so great to see. There's nothing special about this hot dog - it aims to be simple, and accomplishes it. The bread not being toasted is a little annoying, and there's only a light level of char on the dog. The toppings all work together well though, and the experience ends up being quite solid. Obviously, it's not the best hot dog I've ever had, but when you consider how much it costs, the value proposition here is great. It's a place where anyone, no matter their income level, can come and enjoy some food and feel part of the community The papaya juice here was excellent, but I liked the pineapple one les Overall, it's an average hot dog, but money-wise its the best value this side of Costco. 8/10
The food was great! Hotdogs were very tasty and an incredible value! Three dogs and a 32oz drink for $11.50 can't be beat. Especially since they aren't cheap dogs. And that price includes getting it with the works! Ketchup, Mustard, Onions, Sour Kraut, and Relish. The drinks taste super fresh and were great as well. Highly recommend!
undoubtedly one of the cheap eats kings in new york. solid hotdog for only $3.25 with all the classic toppings available for free (ketchup, mustard, onions, sauerkraut, relish) or the more "premium" toppings avilable for 75 cents (cheese, chilli, mayo). the free toppings are more than good enough but the chilli cheese dog is actually pretty decent. the juices are all tasty and pretty sweet, but surprisingly thick.
Simply… Delicious! You are in New York, you need to get a slice and a dog. Well, Gray’s papaya is the place for the hotdog! Five dollars for a hotdog and a large tropical style drink? Hands-down no-brainer! I ended up getting two of the No.3 specials; 3 hotdogs and a large drink for $11. This place proves my theory, ‘Filipino people are just amazing!’🇵🇭 You can get them plain, with ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, and they’re sweet onions for free, or pay to have other condiments added. But I must say, been in New York a couple times, but this was the first time I hit Gray’s. Coming all the way from Vancouver British Columbia (for work), and I must tell you, hands-down, amazing, hot dog! You will not regret it! It’s a little small joint on the corner, a good little in and out style restaurant. But they do have a few high tops, where you can stand and people watch while you enjoy their delicious dogs! Thanks, Grays!🫡 Bravo Zulu!
We went to Gray's Papaya for lunch as a party of four. The line was short, so we were served quickly. We each ordered two hot dogs and a drink. The standard toppings like ketchup, mustard, relish, kraut and onions are free. You can add other toppings as well for a reasonable price. I went with ketchup on one and sauerkraut and mustard on the other. The kraut and mustard was my favorite! I love the combination of the soft bun, the roasted sausage and the tasty toppings. I also tried their famous Papaya drink, which has a unique fruity flavor and a somehow creamy texture. Beyond the food, you can really feel the history and tradition of this classic NYC eatery.
Everyone there just seems happy to be alive. Cool place. $2.75 for a breakfast sandwich. $3.25 for a hot dog. Fun drinks that are super refreshing and surprisingly not too sweet!! The banana daiquiri kinda slapped. I love the artificial banana flavour, so good. The line moves quick, obviously. There’s place to stand and eat.

The papaya juice was worth the 5 star review itself! The chili cheese dog is the one to try. The onions were not that great and detracted from the hot dog - so I'd skip that one. The rest is a good…

Much better than the four stars that it has here in Yelp. We shared a chili dog as a snack and it was amazing! Nice, cheap, fast. I can't wait to go back. Hot dogs hit different in NYC.
I’ve waited years to go here and I can tell you it was definitely worth the wait. The best hotdog I’ve ever eaten. Walked all the way from Midtown and it was worth the walk. You can’t beat the prices.

Best hotdogs in town. Amazing value for money. Great service, even at busy times. Both the papaya drink, and the coconut drink is delicious. High quality beef frankfurters. Heaven!

So good, great price and loved the combo papaya juice. Highly recommend, we got chili dog with onions. Its our go to and it is done so well there.
This was a a great lunch spot and has great deals on hot dogs and a drink. Service is extremely quick. The only thing is limited counter space which can be a problem when it's cold. Even with outdoor tables. Overall I like the food and drink was delicious
What's the hype with this hot dog?! It's 100% better than your NYC cart dogs but I couldn't discern if it was any better than what a standard hot dog would be. It was very salty (too salty for my taste). The bread isn't anything special. The nice part is that there are included toppings in the price: onions, relish, sauerkraut, and ketchup. Additional cost of .75c for certain toppings including: chili, cheese, and mayo. Would need two dogs to be full. I did not try the Papaya drinks. There's no place to stand inside to eat so you have to take outside. There's no bathroom or sinks. Can be a little messy if you ask to take it to go as the toppings will bleed everywhere.
The hot dogs here are legit delicious. The two dogs and a papaya drink for 8 bucks is a good deal. That said, the dogs are skinny. Two of them left me hungry. And the skinny size definitely gave off a certain “dog lipstick” vibe that I can’t unsee. Lol Bottom line: great taste, great deal, but be prepared to order extra if you actually want to feel full.
Fast paced, in and out, no frills hot dogs & drinks combos. Good value for money in NYC, with 3 hot dogs + toppings and drink being roughly ~ $12. No seating, all standing counter space and outside high tops, so if it’s packed at all then you’re taking it to go or going to stand and eat. Classic relish, onion sauce, and sauerkraut toppings spice up the basic hot dog. Nothing too special, just satisfying, classic taste. If you enjoy those toppings normally, definitely add them, they’re free. Good flavor, but don’t expect anything extraordinary. A great accompaniment is their sweet papaya juice, almost tasting like a sweet, papaya milkshake, it’s more on the sweet end than true papaya flavor, so if you really want to taste the fruit fully, you may be disappointed, however, it is refreshing, especially on a hot day. I would say, be ready to order once you get to the counter, the service and line moves quick. Overall, a good experience each time I’ve been.
Small, bad chili, no onions. Ghetto. But I'm from Chicago, maybe New Yorkers like it.
Classic nyc hot dog served in a hole in the wall spot that's been there for over 50 years. I like mine with sauerkraut, onions and ketchup.
They're just fine. I'm glad we didn't wait a long time for it. Nothing wrong with them but nothing amazing. They taste like hot dogs. Don't go out of your way for them but if you're nearby and you …

These hot dogs are addictive! I enjoy them with a papaya drink delicious. It's unfortunate the prices are way too high .we understand inflation but this is ridiculous. And you could understand if you walk in and have a seat with a restroom ! But instead you stand up by the sometimes filthy counter and eat these expensive hot dogs . This business is an institution ny all the way so why not have some specials ? I don't believe I'm saying this but I remember when these dogs were 50 cents. I was a foot messenger and would fill up on one or two but now even with more to spend I'm a lot more conscious of finances and worth .
