Opinions de Hey Tea New York
If you haven't tried Japanese wide flat udon, this is the place for you. The sets are of high value including the udon and assortment of tempuras. I highly recommend the cold dipping udon because you can taste the original flavor/texture of the udon and the complexity of the dipping sauce (even the yuzu fragrance). The hot soup udon doesn't do that as much. But mind you: dishes here center around carbs so if you are looking for more meat/protein heavy for, this place might not be for you.
This was so yummy! And value for money! I liked the cold udon yuzu noodle situation a lot. The chicken soup was also good. Very fast service! They only seat full parties. At 7:15 on a Sunday, we (2 ppl) waited for like 10 mins. But by 8pm, there was a massive line
Probably some of the best udon in NYC I’ve ever had. Very simple menu, but in this case less is more because anything you order will be done so well. I ordered the hot chicken udon which came with the most delicious piece of tempura bacon. Service is incredible and extremely fast. Not many seats so either get there early or be prepared for a short wait. Would suggest going alone or just in a group of 2.
A bit pricey imo for the signature set, but was overall delicious and surprisingly filling. I’ve never had this style of udon, so I can’t attest to the authenticity (even though there’s bacon tempura lol) The workers there were very sweet and helpful. Went for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty much empty.
The vegan dipping udon is SO GOOD! The flavor is incredible. So nice to have a vegan option and it is also amazing. Second time here and will be coming back again.
I got the signature set and it was delicious!! Recommend to eat it quickly or the udon will stick. Shrimp and Japanese potato tempura was my favorite. I thought the bacon was a bit too salty. You order through the QR code by seat (and tip) so it’s super seamless and quick! Warning: there is no restroom here!!
Efficient spot for very good udon. Love the tempura prawn and bacon, as well as the other accompaniments. It’s a unique experience and you can order on your phone while you’re in there. Worth a visit
This udon spot specializes in udon dipping, and even if you’re not familiar with the style, there’s no need to feel intimidated—they explain everything clearly and walk you through the dish. I had their signature set. The udon was chewy and bouncy, just the right texture. The tempura was fresh and crisp, a solid contrast to the noodles. Next time, I’ll probably swap out the tempura bacon, as it was a bit salty for my taste. It’s also a perfect place for solo diners. Even though ordering and paying is done online, the staff were attentive and helpful throughout the meal.
I really enjoyed this style of udon as I've never tried it before. The noodles have a wonderful chew to them, and the dipping sauce in the signature set is delightfully fragrant. I was pleasantly surprised by the bacon tempura, which wasn't too greasy. The other tempura were very good as well. The service was friendly and quick once we were seated, but we did have to wait a little over 45 min on line. It was a nice night to chat on line though!
They do udon or soba in soup or tsukemen style served with tempura and that's it...and they do it REALLY WELL. Delicious. The tempura is light and delicate..a riff is tempura bacon, which was good but the veggie tempura pieces were even better. I got the tsukemen style with very wide (around 1.5") flat noodles, great chew and bounce, a little tough to pick up, lol. The dipping broth is well balanced and flavorful. This is a tiny place, counter seating only. Great for solo dining or with 1 other person.
I got the Himokawa dipping udon set with tempura and it was so good! The noodles were perfectly cooked and chewy and the tempura were not greasy with a thin coating. The sauce that they gave to dip the udon was my favourite part. Loved the slight hint of yuzu! Near the end, the udon at the bottom were really difficult to separate so that’s the only thing that bothered me. We came at around 7:00pm on a Sunday and were lucky enough to get seated almost right away with around a 5 minute wait. They close a little early on Sunday at 8pm, so keep that in mind when visiting.
This place is very popular, and on weekends at lunchtime you’ll likely need to wait for a table unless you arrive right when it opens. That said, the wait usually isn’t too long. Their specialty is a variety of udon and cold noodle dishes—the noodles are springy and unique, and the toppings are well-seasoned without overwhelming the natural flavor of the noodles. The way the dishes are enjoyed also feels distinctive, making it a spot well worth visiting.
I didn’t realize the time square location had a tea lab with special drinks. I got the Gardenia 5 that has Leshan gardenia tea, coconut water, pistachio cloud cream with minimal sugar and less ice. The pistachio cream was very rich and tasty. I carried it out after trying the cream. I wish I tried the tea before it got mixed in with the cream. The tea and gardenia flavor was overpowered by the pistachio by the time I tried it. I also got the twinkle twinkle collab tiramisu rich chocolate drink. It was like a rich chocolate milk. The marscapone topping was hard to taste separately with a straw. There was no coffee aspect, just cocoa.
HeyTea in Times Square is a unique location compared to the other HeyTea locations because it is one of the only locations that contains the HeyTea Lab, an experimental portion of their brand that tests new drink concepts that rotate around. They still serve their main drinks seen in other HeyTea stores here as well. We tried their Matcha 3.6 and the White 3.6. The Matcha 3.6 was creamy and tasted good, but in comparison, we felt the White 3.6 was a little flat and not to our liking. All of their drinks do stand out as being high quality, so it could just be our personal preference that didn't like it.
HEYTEA in Time's Square is a truly magical spot with wonderful staff and a caring manager. Since partnering with HEYTEA and Popmart for the Twinkle Twinkle IP drop, it's been an incredible journey. The staff are so dedicated, welcoming each customer warmly, especially those eager to try the new Tiramisu milk tea and Twinkle Twinkle merchandise. One of the highlights is the lab at HEYTEA in Time's Square, where you can explore and test their creative new drink recipes made in-house. Overall, it's a ten out of ten place—perfect when you're craving a delicious drink to satisfy your taste buds. My favorite location hands down but HEYTEA is great in all locations. Thank you for coming to my ted talk. CASPER OUT HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 12-24-2025
I’m giving Hey Tea in Times Square 5 stars. The drinks are fantastic — perfectly balanced, flavorful, and refreshing. The menu has a great variety, from classic milk teas to creative seasonal specials, so there’s something for everyone. The staff are friendly and efficient, keeping the line moving even during busy times. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it a nice spot to relax while enjoying a high-quality drink. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!
Their idea of “new style tea” and freshness made this one of my best experiences ordering a boba tea variation. What surprised me the most was the constant line of customers walking in and out while we ordered. The staff was extremely hard at work during the busy time and my Matcha Cloud Coconut Blue still came out looking delectable. The matcha cold foam tasted amazing with a perfect salty touch, and the coconut tasted amazing. I also tried my friend’s mango drink and the mango chunk literally melted in my mouth from how fresh it was. I would come back here every day if I could!
We got the Gongfu 3.3 (black tea + milk + pistachio cream + toasted meringue) and it was delicious with notes of matcha and fun to watch it being made! Also got the Coconut Mango Boom, and it was super refreshing, with a bright mango flavor and nice texture. Very cool concept and unique drinks. I knew there was a reason it’s in the middle of Times Square! Totally worth it.
I was excited to finally try a Heytea Tea lab! We got the Matcha 3.1 with the citron foam cloud. We went close to closing on a Saturday. The wait was much longer for the regular menu than for the special menu (which you can only order in person). It was cool watching them concoct the beautiful drinks. The matcha latte was delicious and the foam was light and tasty as well. I'd definitely come back!
This was my first time trying the Triple Matcha Latte at Hay Tea and it was really good! Smooth, not too sweet, and super refreshing the bubble tea was just right too. They have plenty of different drinks to choose from, and I was lucky there wasn’t a line when I went. The only thing is the in-store menu only shows the drink names with short descriptions, but no pictures. It would be more helpful to actually see what the drinks look like, so I had to check the app/website to get a better idea. Overall, the drink was delicious and worth it. I’d still give this place a solid five stars 🌟. If you’re in the area, definitely give it a try!
Good place to grab a quick meal, either by yourself or with one other friend (bar-style seating). The udon portion doesn’t look like much, but was surprisingly filling with the tempura. Delicious, though not at Raku quality.
Came here at 5pm on a Friday alone and no wait at all. The menu is simple, focusing on Himokawa udon sets. The tempura here is well made and not overly greasy, pairing well with the dipping sauce. The only drawback was the saltiness of the hot broth - I tried drinking it alone and it was unbearable. Considering this wasn’t the cold dipping noodles, I assumed that this broth would be less concentrated and more clear. Service was great and as a solo diner, I didn’t feel rushed at all. Overall, I would recommend people to visit at least once, but would personally not rush back.
the tempura has a light, thin batter that pairs nicely with the dipping sauce, making it very refreshing. The wide udon noodles have an interesting texture, but the soup base itself is a bit underwhelming.
Overall a decent meal. The cold noodle set with the katsu is a must get. The soup noodle is very salty and mid but that comes with Japanese soup I guess. It’s a bit pricey but decent experience
Visited on a weekend afternoon after hearing about their flat udon noodles served tsukemen-style. The place has a Japanese bar vibe with only counter seating—no tables. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code at your seat, but I found it uncomfortable that you’re asked to tip before your food even arrives. My friend got the hot udon and I had the tsuke cold udon. Both came with six flat noodles and tempura. The food tasted good, but the portion felt small for the price, which was disappointing. The biggest letdown was that there’s no restroom available. It’s worth trying once for the unique noodles, but I probably won’t be back.
Udon noodle was great. But the chicken broth was salty in my taste. I liked the cold fish broth udon better. Their shrimp tempura was salty as well. It was a good shrimp tho. I would've ordered 5 myself if it wasnt salty. There can be a wait so I recommend going in a bit earlier than usual dinner time if going for dinner.
We got the Gongfu 0, which is the Tea Lab special. The presentation is great! Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing since the shaved snow tasted oddly like bottled milk tea. The cream on top was rich and creamy and that was the highlight. That said, I still really enjoy other HEYTEA drinks overall. The service at this location is pretty quick.
While in NY Time Square, we were craving some drinks or smoothies. This was right by the famous red stairs in Time Square. Only one register or computer to order so the line was kinda slow. Ordered their Cloud Mango which had real fresh mango and sweet foam on top. After mixing, it was good. Also, ordered their coconut mango Blue which had small pearls and it's pretty good. There were more drinks to try n]but we got our favorites. We become obsessed with our choices and went here like 3times. Found out they have this in California Bay Area and SoCal. Yes!
Was in the area, so decided to try one of their lab exclusive drinks. Tbh, although it was a bit pricey than how I would normally like it, the Gongfu 3.3 was honestly pretty good. Nothing like I've ever had. The gongfu milk tea is perfectly sweet with the toasty-bitter taste of the tea still cutting through. The pistachio cloud is quite thick and sweet, a little nutty and salty, which pairs well with the milk tea. And the meringue... it's basically the cherry on top! For a meringue, I was expecting kind of like a toasted sweet whipped egg white topping, but this one is different! It's pretty much salty with a hint of sweetness, reminding me of a cheese foam, but it has this more thicker, fluffy marshmallow texture. And toasting it give it this perfect bit of bitterness and smokiness that gives smores vibe. It just brings the whole thing together. Loved it, but don't know if I'll be frequently coming back for it 😅 All in all, pretty good for unique bubble teas, but would honestly come back once in a while as a treat or with friends for the experience!
If you love milk foam and bingsu and haven't been to Hey Tea Lab at Times Square, you are really missing out. The tea is too strong for me, but the milk foam is really really good! It's very unique, very creamy and fatty. I also really like their snow ice. It is definitely a good dessert for the hot/warm days. The tea flavor is vivid but not strong like their tea. If you don't like strong tea like me, you can walk inside the store a little more and see the area to order less strong tea lol. I believe the options here are available at a regular store too?!
Tried the Gardenia 3 with extra-thick walnut cream cap and gardenia tea base. The cream cap has a light nutty aroma—just the right balance, not too sweet and not salty like the pistachio one. The texture is soft, fluffy, almost airy, and pairs perfectly with the refreshing gardenia tea base. I wanted to get the Gardenia 5 and Dubai, but they were sold out. Still, Gardenia 3 was a great surprise and definitely worth trying if you enjoy lighter, more delicate flavors.
Stopped by the new @heytea.usa Tea Lab in Times Square — the first of its kind and unlike any other HEYTEA experience. This space is all about experimentation and reimagining tea — think signature cloud tops, unexpected textures, and creative flavor twists. 🌫️🍵 I tried the Gongfu 3.3 — a pistachio milk tea topped with cloud cream and toasted meringue. Super rich and dreamy. 🤤 Also loved the Matcha 0, especially if you're into snow ice — refreshing and super smooth. 🍵❄️ If you’re a tea lover or just looking for something new and exclusive, definitely check out the HEYTEA Lab. It's a whole different vibe.
the noodles were unique - we tried the signature dipping set and broth set. my favorite was the sweet potato tempura. we waited almost an hour on saturday evening.
The udon texture is great—nice and chewy but not overly so. Tempura is also solid, especially the bacon one. It’s my first time trying bacon tempura and it was surprisingly good. The dipping udon broth is flavorful, and with all the extra seasonings, you can switch up the taste, which is fun. But the hot soup version was way too salty for me. That said, the set costs around $22–23 and only comes with six noodles… I mean, seriously? I’m not even exaggerating—it was literally six noodles.
Hey Tea is good for the fruit tea, but honestly, they have a serious backup at the counter when trying to pick up orders. There's not enough space on the monitor to show all the numbers so the person doing the final touches keeps getting interrupted by people asking about their orders. They need better organization.
I guess I don't understand this place. I wanted a cloud or drink with a lot of creamy topping so I got the cloud magnolia latte. it was a few sips of foam and that was it. I don't know what happened to the cream or why there was a paper on top. If there wasn't a paper I would have started drinking it right away but since there was paper, I had to wait until I got to my desk to take it apart and try to figure out what was going on...It did have good flavor and I liked that I could get it with light sugar.
Matcha 3.6 with pistachio foam cloud just tasted like melted pistachio ice cream. While the drink was still pretty tasty (creamy, not too sweet), it had no matcha taste, only pistachio. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad drink, but if I’m buying an $8.90 matcha (almost $10 after tax), I want it to taste like matcha, not just pistachio milk. So even though it was not bad, it felt like a waste of money. I can still see why people would like this drink, since it’s like a dessert. I enjoyed it too, but I wouldn’t buy it again because I appreciate a strong matcha latte more. Also, the service is just the cashier staring (almost glaring) at you.
I love the tea lab drink but don’t go there unless you got a bunch time to waste. It wasn’t even that busy, but it still took almost 20 minutes for our drink. The staff were extremely slow, and kept chatting with each other while customers were standing right in front of them waiting. The girl literally spent a full minute just wiping a cup because she was talking to another staff member at the same time. Our hot drinks became completely cold by the time we got it! Also there’s no number system or anyone calling out orders at the tea lab section so everyone had to crowd around the drink counter appreciating the staff chatting and not giving customers one shit. The whole experience feel really unprofessional and frustrating.
