Many similar places around, however the quality of food here is better. Owner is always on site and service is attentive. We come because is the easiest way for me to feed my 4.5yo vegetables ...in a form of shumai, dumplings and rolls ;) we too, enjoy their menu. I highly recommend .
Awesome place, best Chinese restaurant on UES and other Asian cuisines. Our go to place. Great lunch specials, quality and price.
Always love coming here. Food is great, great portions and fast service. Lunch specials have good pricing. Waitstaff could be a little more warm in my opinion, but overall a good spot to pick up some good food!!
I’ve never had a bad meal here and the food is delicious and not greasy. Their wonton soup, fried rice and egg rolls are all fantastic.
My new favorite in the neighborhood - very worth the longer walk from me (they also don’t charge an extra delivery fee) - probably the best Chinese food around and priced extremely well! Workers are also very nice
This is an old school place that u can find in nyc Everything is great and they have lunch specials for everyday.
Very good and simple Chinese restaurant that also offers other types of Asian cuisine such as Korean and Japanese. Service was excellent and the waitress was very nice and patient with my kids. Food was tasty. Line moody give Chinese establishments, this one too lets you basically build your own dish by adding vegetables with a sauce and a protein. This was excellent for me as a vegan as I was able to make something nice that tested great. Prices are totally reasonable too.
I have been dining here for over a decade and they have been rock solid with their quality and flavor. I have never ordered anything on their menu and not enjoyed it.
Many years ago when I was growing up in the neighborhood, my family and I would order from here and eat here constantly and we were always very pleased with the quality of the food and the service. I just moved back to the UES and I was very pleased to find that this place was still open and that they still offer free delivery when you order directly from their website. The food is still good and the service is still great. I am very happy they survived the pandemic and will continue to order food from here while I am still living on the UES. P.S. The wonton soup is great when your feeling under the weather!
We've been eating here at least once or twice a month for well over 10 years. And honestly, shame on me for not reviewing them before. We've ordered delivery. We've picked up. And, our favorite, we've eaten there. And honestly, not a single complaint. Everything has been Great. In over 10 years, we have loved this place and everything we've gotten here. Until tonight. I got the crab and cucumber vinagarette dish that is a favorite of mine. And the crab wasn't good. First time in over 10 years everything wasn't perfect. Rachel (the manager) listened to me. She tasted the crab herself. She came over to our table and apologized. She acknowledged that the crab did not meet their standard. She thanked me for saying something about it. She said, "Please, if something isn't right, let me know." I didn't say anything about 10 years of great meals. Shame on me, and I apologise to the entire staff of Hunan Delight. I love you all, and I love your food. Best place in the neighborhood. But when I see how you handle a complaint! Is there some way I can go beyond 5 stars? This is one of the most treasured gems of the Upper East Side. Rachel is a great manager. The sushi guy (sorry, sir, I don't know your name) is excellent. I have nothing but praise and love for Hunan Delight. And how they handled my first complaint in over 10 years just makes me love them more.
It's a good neighborhood Chinese/Asian fusion restaurant. The staff is friendly and the food is prompt. They're willing to cook special orders. The food isn't the spicyest but it's still good.
I ate there last night the food was excellent. I ordered the sushi deluxe and it was great. Prices are fair and the staff was very attentive. I do recommend it, they also have other cuisine besides sushi. Loved it.
This place always gets it right! The Chinese food is great and the sushi amazing; more than you'd expect from a take out restaurant. "The York Ave" roll is the best roll I've ever had at a sushi spot and the "sushi cake" roll is a close second. The sushi chef is vert detailed and super nice when you eat in. The waitresses are also really friendly. Delivery is super fast! When they ring the bell, I check my phone for a time because I can't believe how quickly they arrive; sometimes in 15 minutes. This place is solid.
Before the food, the quickest delivery in NYC (And I order delivery at least 3 times a week). The roll with spicy Salmon inside, and avocado and Salmon outside is something that I just cant enough of. Chicken fried rice is delicious. Dessert: Fried Banana. If you have maple syrup at home, it will be absolutely perfect. Mushy ice cream, green tea flavor, wish they had more flavors ;)
A super-cozy, absolutely delicious spot for Chinese food. Has always been one of my very favorite go-to spots for comforting food and a warm, quiet atmosphere. The Cantonese noodle soups are particularly good, as well as the Mapo Tofu and all the classic dishes. Definitely don’t miss this wonderful place!
The fried calamari here is absolutely delightful! Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, it’s seasoned just right to enhance its natural flavor. The addition of fresh vegetables like onions and green peppers adds a refreshing touch to the dish. It’s the perfect pairing for a drink and makes for an excellent appetizer. Highly recommend trying this if you're visiting!
I adore this gem! The food is amazing, great portions and affordable too. The staff is kind and attentive. It easily became my favorite chinese restaurant. Their egg roll and sesame chicken are the best!
the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism. Hunan delight has brought me home, it’s notes of tofu and fresh edimame brought to the days of try tranquility. As a baby stuck in a womb I was at peace wrapped as an eggroll of life with the mother milk of sake and Chinese beer has nurtured life within me and my significant other life. As lovers we were never truly free without the hardy and eloquent taste of the sweet chow fun with notes of green. Love the foodie couple
Food is on point fresh and quality was there I had Singapore Mei fun and hot and sour soup.

The best of everything! Our favorites are scallion pancakes (YUM!), steamed vegetable entree, sesame tofu, singapore mei fun, and curry chicken. Hunan Delight on York Ave is a stellar local restaurant where they feed you like family. I believe this is the place to bring friends, order lots, and fill the entire table with food, because all the dishes here are amazing! We appreciate the great portions and accommodating special diets too (incl. vegan/vegetarian, soy, gluten, etc.) there are options for everyone to enjoy. We have had many wonderful meals at Hunan Delight on York Ave. Rachel and team are always friendly and take good care of their patrons. We love eating here and and always look forward to visiting! Best wishes, The Lewis Family
Very peaceful and relaxing place to eat. No background music or noise. Good what I would call old style Chinese food. Very reasonable pricing. Two people can eat here for around $60 and that includes drinks. I go here every time I come to New York.
Been coming here since I was a toddler. Even though it has changed hands since then, the food is still just as delicious. The sesame chicken here is excellent and isn't caked with corn starch like most American Chinese restaurants. The lunch special is a great deal considering how prices overall have shot up. Easily the best Chinese food in the neighborhood.
I love this place. Food is amazing and comes out fast hot and fresh. Classic traditional nyc Chinese spot 💎. It's always an experience
I am so sorry this restaurant has become very cheap. You don't get duck sauce, mustard or soy sauce when you order for delivery. When I complained the owner told be they give you 2 two packets of duck sauce when you orderv1 egg roll. Snd if yoy don't ask for the packets you don't get them. Becoming very cheap. I am taking my business elsewhere. TANG GARDEN ON 76TH STREET AND 3RD AVENUE I HATE TO BEG F OR SOMETHING AND YOU DON'T GET IT.

This is my second time in two days drooling as I neared the door of Hunan Delight. Always skeptical of Chinese establishments (especially in a yuppie part of NYC), this place delivered. Big time. The food is reasonably priced, fills you up quick and will serve as a second meal for later on. That being said, the portions are ridiculously large like your typical Chinese restaurant. I ordered lunch special General Tso's with fried rice, a spring roll and egg drop soup. Daringly, I decided to try their crab Rangoon. I'm sure you'll agree it is hard to find places that make legit CRAB Rangoon. Look no further. I will never find a Rangoon with more visible crab meat unless I move to Maryland. Egg drop soup: tastes like cooked eggs! Fried rice: most disappointing but still delicious. A little peppery, but that may have just been a fluke.. General Tso's: seasoned white meat chicken fried to perfection in a deliciously medium spicy sauce (can get mild or spicy on request) Overall, two thumbs and two toes up!
Nice neighborhood Chines place. Food is always good, and fresh. They also are accommodating if you ask for something special, like certain sauces or well done beef, no onions or whatever your need is. Nice staff, fast delivery.
Always get the crispy beef. It's expensive but it's amazing, I wish i made enough money to keep buying it. The workers here are so friendly, its comforting. They have a good lunch deal but some of there foods are just alright.
The general ty had a nice flavorful crunch on the outside. The inside was flavorless. The waitress was amazingly sweet. The ribs were sauce less
Despite the fact that they messed up my order this is a very solid choice for American style chinese food. I came from the lower east side because I read that they had crispy shredded beef which has been a favorite of mine but surprisingly difficult to find in this city. Keep in mind they have a number of crispy beefs as well as shredded beefs so make sure you tell them crispy shredded Szechuan beef. I received only shredded beef but it was still great. A bit expensive as well but including the rice you can split this over two meals
First time trying the restaurant, looking for some Chinese food. Ordered the hot and sour soup and miso soup. Both were pretty yummy and soothing on a rainy day. For entrees, got the honey walnut shrimp and the mapo tofu. The honey walnut shrimp was not what I was used to or expecting. The breading was a bit crunchier, closer to popcorn shrimp. The sauce was not fully incorporated and kind of half mixed, half on top. The flavor was good and the shrimp was cooked real well; I am just used to a more creamy and less thick sauce. I would probably get it again if I was craving it! The mapo tofu was also different. It was spicy but not super deep in flavor. The sauce was a good consistency but I would've ordered more black bean sauce and more ground pork. Overall, it went well with the rice just need a bit more. It's in a convenient location and I would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes and the lunch special. The service was really nice and made the experience worth it. Oh, plus you get free wonton chips with a sweet and sour sauce so that's kind of nice.
Not really tried a lot of their food. Usually ordered beef chow fun takeout which we always enjoy,

I’ve only had delivery or pick up so cannot comment on atmosphere. Also only ordered from Chinese-not Japanese menu. The food is always tasty and there’s a good varied menu. The lunch menu offers good size portions -even for sharing. Delivery is fast and delivery persons are always pleasant. I especially like that there is on-site delivery staff rather than grub hub etc. A nice local restaurant.
This review is just for their online ordering system and the food since I haven't been to the actual restaurant on York Ave. My team and I placed several orders, and we were all pleasantly surprised at how much food it's offered for lunch special. The food was well-packed, flavorful, and inexpensive. Great combination and a hard find in the Upper East Side. Ordering online was a breeze, the restaurant's "preferred" option for delivery service is "Beyond Menu", which works well with Google Pay. This site makes it easy to select from the lunch special entrees and appetizers. When you need a quick, inexpensive meal, try this place..... But if you do have a little bit of time, see their dinner menu that includes, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Hunan Chinese specialties.

There a not many good Chinese places in the UES. This is one of the better ones. The salt and pepper pork chop was fried pretty well. Some of the pieces were overcooked but the breading wasn't too thick. It needs to be seasoned more evenly but still pretty tasty. The double cooked pork was different than what I usually eat. There were way too many veggies that don't usually make an appearance in the dish. The pork was tender but too saucy. Service was polite and food arrived quickly. It's a good option when you are in the neighborhood.
A longtime neighborhood fixture, Hunan offers typical Chinese-American fare (meaning many dishes have copious amounts of thick brown sauce). I personally ask them to reduce the amount of sauce or even do a dry-sauté style. They also offer Japanese food but I’d stick to the Chinese food. Lunch specials start at $11.70 (tax included).

Used to love this place, For two consecutive times, ordered roasted duck with wonton soup with egg noodles. Both times they called saying no roasted duck, replaced with roasted chicken instead. FIRST time, the chicken was so dry. Thought that was a one time thing.Ordered just now and the chicken was super dry again. Also normally, there is a free packet of fried noodles. NOW no more and none of the canned fruits that i like too. The rice topped with shrimp and tofu is still good though.
The worst and most disgusting vegetable fried rice I’ve ever had in my life. It literally looks like just white rice with frozen vegetables in it. Nothing looks fried. Doesn’t look like it was even cooked together. Honestly, looks like it was just thrown into a container together. No seasoning, no sauce, nothing. Literally throwing this away and never ordering from here again.

Haven’t had any type of land animals for almost 12 years. I’m pescatarian. Ordered shrimp lettuce wraps. Took a few bites without paying attention and it was chicken. Called up and they acted like sending over shrimp after the fact would correct the error. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Very disappointed. I ordered Cantonese roast duck. Ended up throwing the entire thing in garbage. What was delivered was burnt dry skin and bones dripping with fat and icky remains from whatever it is that the duck must’ve been roasting in for no less than a week. There was ZERO actual meat involved. I wish I was exaggerating. There really was no meat at all. None. All yucky skin and fat or charred skin and bones. When I called to tell them my experience, I was told “if you don’t like it, don’t order it”. I rest my case.
My personal experience with Hunan Delight Matsuya was terrible. Company will charge you on your credit card, then tell you that your charge didn't go through and that you have to pay cash with delivery driver. Double charged my card. They call me the next day and tell me that my card didn't go through and I owe them money and that I need to "come to the restaurant" to work this out. I call the company back and they deny everything. Management could have taken the easy way and refund my money like an ethical business. Police report issued, fraudulent charge reported to bank and credit card company confirmed that Matsuya is a repeat offender and they should be getting credit card privileges revoked sooner than later...
The worst Chinese food I have ever tasted. It took ages to come and it was cold on arrival. The chow main was a pot of watery tasteless slop with no discernable chicken or noodles. The king pao was soggy and greasy and was so bland. The prawn toast was cold and sloppy. I actually took the chow mein back and got a refund and the rest went down the garbage chute. Very over priced and would not recommend to anyone. I have tried it twice and it has been awful both times.
I always purchase my lunch there, today something happened and I really don’t appreciate it. I bought my lunch and while sitting the same area like I always wants I’m waiting for my food to cook, then the same waitress came to me saying ….. you can’t sit here customers are coming to purchase food, my response was! Excuse me, that’s when she said never mind. At that point I was trying to finger out if I was there to beg for food. That was very rude, since she’s the same waitress that always attend to me, she’s also the same one I paid for my food. Then my food was the worst ever. I ordered BBQ spare ribs and fried rice. The spare ribs were dry as it is with no bbq on it. So I called to inform the restaurant that’s not what I ordered and the same waitress was very rude and cut my call. I’m never going back there ever again.
I used to really enjoy the Chinese food here. Now they must have a new chef. The chicken is horrible, rubbery, tiny dried up pieces, tons of oil, soggy broccoli but the rice is still good. They put a crazy amount of salt and oil in there food. Beware!! Practically inedible. It’s not appealing or healthy like it used to be.
Ordered the seafood delight combo a few weeks ago and when I got home there was 2 pieces of shrimp and barely anything else for $21 so I ate it. Today I went back and explained that there was no seafood in the seafood dish the last time I ordered it and I ordered it again....surprise still no seafood ....I returned it and while returning it the younger male that took my order was seemed angry and was trying to tell me that for $21 that’s what the seafood special has ...2 pieces of shrimp and a whole lot of veggies....never going back...I guess that’s why the tables in the restaurant are always empty.
I thought perhaps we had the least of the Chinese restaurants in Hoboken, Jersey City and Union City; but this beat them all. Sweet sour chicken was chicken nuggets and some red goop to pure over it. All landed in the garbage except for the Veg. roll. Guess will have to go back into the city for decent Chinese food.
First time customer for take out. $27 order no chop sticks, no napkins, no utensils. So I call to find out why she tells me I am supposed to ask, she said it's against the law to put it in the bag?! How it's a customer supposed to know that? Then she tells me, that they forgot to ask me. Poor customer service.
The food was absolutely tasteless! So disappointed. This place used to be really good. We ate nothing.
We ate here frequently until recently. THE FOOD HAS GONE DOWNHILL. I ordered Gen Tso chicken. It was deep fried, not sautéed. It looked so bad one of my friends didn't believe it was Gen Tso Chicken. We called over the manager- she claimed this was prepared correctly. I left it over. They wrapped it. On the way out I handed it to the manager& said please throw this out. We will never come back. She said thank you & lost 2 customers. Another customer was complaining when we walked in. So sad when you see one of your favorite restaurants go downhill. Maybe they can't afford the same quality food. The restaurant was empty- only 1 other customer.... I think they must be having troubles. Update: Today I found a Chinese restaurant on 77&3rd Ave. Food was spectacular the way Hunan Delight had been for years. I will try to make it back to Hunan Delight soon to see if this was just a bad day.
