Opinions de Jacob’s Pickles New York
I’m usually wary of trendy spots because the food is often over-salted or spicy without any actual substance. Jacob’s Pickles is the complete opposite. You can actually taste the layers of flavor in every bite. The atmosphere is a huge draw—it’s bright and cozy, but still has this subtle hint of romance that makes it perfect for a date or a nice dinner out. It’s rare to find a place that balances a great vibe with truly delicious, well-balanced food. Overall, a fantastic experience!
First to going and I love it from the door. The place is beautiful. Everything on the menu looked sooo good. I started off with the Sreet Corn, it was so good. I'm not a pickle eater but I went for the popular dish "Honey Chicken & Pickles " and 0 mistakes were made. (I did ask for the Pickles on the side). The warm biscuit, the honey crispy chicken with the thin sliced Pickle.... it was delicious. The meal came with the cheese Grits and it was the perfect comfort food. I cant wait to go back.
Incredible brunch spot. Delicious cocktails and food. Great selection of fun biscuit sandwiches and hot honey chicken with challah bread. Our server Emma was super nice and informative. Big space with cool atmosphere. Would definitely come back for the huge brunch portions, or for dinner to try a flight from their amazing whiskey collection!
Delicious! That’s all you need to hear. I had fried chicken and biscuit with mushroom gravy and cheese grits as the side. Amazing! So full from delicious appetizers that I didn’t have enough room to do it justice! If you want something out of midtown, definitely give them a try! Amazing!
Really good food and huge portions. Come hungry. The plates are generous and even the sides are almost big enough to be a main dish on their own. You will definitely leave full. Service was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. And of course the pickles. There is a large variety to try, which makes it fun and adds something special to the meal. Great comfort food spot if you are looking for big portions and solid quality.
Located in the Upper West Side, this southern food restaurant was a good surprise! Service was very friendly and plate size were really big! They have a terrace on Amsterdam St which is nice during the summer. I had the buffalo mac & cheese and I wasn’t disappointed! Loved it!
Been coming to Jacob’s pickles and their other establishments for many years since 2015. Their food and service is genuinely top tier. Post covid, I noticed the food was still good but didn’t have the same taste, love, and attention it had when I originally started going there. I know that sounds silly but when I came back and visited the new location and was stunned by how big it was but still had the Jacob’s pickles charm. I have to say that their food this time around took me right back to my memories when I first started visiting. Stunning and delicious! My guests who came from out of town loved it too!
The name of the game is portion control. Perfect southern comfort food with a lovely pickled twist. The portions are huge so be on alert. I want to give a shout-out to the appetizer chicken bites which were so good we were tempted to order more to take home. The food was delicious, I would recommend this place for brunch.
Amazing food and vibe! We went for a weekend brunch at 10am and the place was already very lively. We got the Southern BLT and sausage egg and cheese biscuit and both were delicious. I would totally order the Southern BLT again and it was the standout at our table. The grits weren’t great because they were too watery but everything else was superb
Amazing Southern-inspired comfort food! The pickles are fantastic, the mac and cheese is delicious, and every dish is rich and satisfying. The service is amazing—friendly, attentive, and fast. The warm, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful décor make the experience even better. Absolutely a must-visit
I deeply enjoyed Jacob’s pickles. What a fun atmosphere. The deviled eggs were lovely, and the pickles were delicious. They had a very interesting pickle biscuit beer. I loved the biscuits, especially the pumpkin ones. The mini pecan pie was also to die for! I would recommend coming here for sure. It does get busy on the weekends so plan ahead! We had the pleasure of meeting Jacob, who is so kind and loved hearing more about the story behind the place.
Unique twist on southern style food and special recipes. The fried chicken was thick and juicy. The biscuits are fantastic. The wedge salad was really yummy and I love that they added chicken so it could be my whole meal. The portions are huge so ounce for ounce it’s a great value. You will definitely have leftovers. The service was very friendly. They have too many high tables which many people don’t like to sit at. But the place is huge, so it shouldn’t be hard to get a low table. The music and acoustics are loud. Very few vegetarian items, but you won’t go hungry. We will definitely be back to try other things on their menu.
At Jacob’s Pickles, the food is plentiful whether you have a big appetite or would like to share a plate. We visited their newest location at 680 Columbus Avenue, on the Upper West Side, we had previously went for Brunch at the location on Amsterdam Avenue. My wife and I shared the “Western Cheese Omelette” and it did not disappoint, plenty of everything in it. Coffee is good and comes with free refills. The atmosphere was loud, if you like quiet, not the place for you even though once, you settle in, you belong. They also have a climate controlled outdoor terrace, great to suck up on the morning Sun. One of the highlights of our visit was the service. The place was packed however, our waitress and bus boy were always attentive and present. Definitely worth a visit, check it out. “Eat deliciously"
A little farther north than I usually like to go, but we had a fun dinner at the new (bigger and brighter) location of Jacob's Pickles. Let's start with the food: get a pickle flight. All four we got were good and the standouts were the horseradish cukes and the green beans. We also got the poutine (ok - definitely needed more gravy); classic mac and cheese (fine) and the honey chicken on a biscuit (chicken was delicious, biscuit was good and the grits on the side were unnecessary). In general, food was solid and deserved about 4 stars. What brought the rating to five was our server Mason. The perfect mix of friendly and attentive and leave diners alone to enjoy their meals. One of the best servers I have met in a while. Tables were pretty close so our neighbors almost felt like they were a part of my dinner party.
Updated: their new location is really good, spacious, and wonderful interiors. This place continues to be busy! We tried their delicious Matzo Ball Soup this time, and deviled eggs. Both were fantastic. Our server James was excellent who ensured we had a pleasant experience during our time here. Older review: After a walk-in waiting list fiasco (they got our number wrong) and waiting for over 40 mins, we got seated in a rather packed corner with fairly limited space to sit comfortably. We couldn't blame the table behind us either, because they definitely needed that extra space. Jordan, our server, got us straight to ordering; A freshly squeezed lemonade, Biscuits Gravy & Eggs ($16), Classic Mac & Cheese ($18), Hot Chicken Biscuit ($22), and Okra & Chiles ($13). It's your typical American comfort food; giant portions and good for a once in 6-months kindda meal - extremely tasty though! For the health conscious person, sharing an appetizer and entree would make perfect sense. For the Hot Chicken Biscuit plate, it would've been nice if both pieces of chicken had the Nashville Hot Sauce on top. Only one piece had a generous pour, so the other one felt pretty bland! Jordan was attentive all throughout, and service overall was quick. Food arrived within 15 mins of placing our order. Noise levels were on the higher end and was pretty difficult to have a conversation without raising your voice around 2 pm on a spring Saturday! We might drop by for a drink or two the next time, and to order their Okra & Chiles again which was really pickled!
This is a brand new location on the Upper West Side and it’s better than ever! Jacob has really outdone himself with this spot. It’s big, spacious, beautifully decorated, and has such a warm, lively vibe. The service was just amazing; our server, Arielle, did a fantastic job helping us with menu selections and pairing dishes perfectly. We started with the Pick-4-Pickles...a must-try! The Candy Beets took me by surprise with how good they were. The Hot Sour Pickles were bold and flavorful, the Big Dill Culture Pickles were crisp and classic, and the Sweet & Spicy Carrots were absolutely delicious. All that flavor for such a great price! For drinks, both the non-alcoholic and alcoholic options were great. The Jacob’s Pickles Biscuit Beer was incredible... it paired beautifully with the Honey Chicken & Biscuit meal that came with cheesy grits (which were to die for). We also had the Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese: extra cheesy, creamy, and full of flavor. And as a self-proclaimed French fry lover, I have to say..... these fries were amazing! Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft inside, and seasoned just right. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked beautiful. Honestly, you almost don’t want to eat it because of how pretty the presentation is. But the smell and aroma of the food make it impossible to resist. The ambiance is great... perfect for talking, relaxing, and enjoying THE GREAT food selections. Even the washrooms were spotless (which always says a lot about a restaurant). I’d definitely recommend making a reservation, because this place is already a hot spot on the Upper West Side. Highly recommend Jacob’s Pickles and I’ll definitely be coming back. It’s officially a new favorite.
Absolutely loved this place! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The food was absolutely delicious . The portions were generous. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for great food, great service, and a great atmosphere!
First time here and I thought it was great. The food was good , the chicken sandwiches were stacked!!! Definitely need a fork and knife just to eat it. Over all the chicken sandwiches were delicious and filling . Honestly I couldn't finish it . The biscuit it self wasn't all that. Mac and cheese was wow👌definitely a most !! Cheesey and creamy. And last fried pickles it was ehhh it could be better. The Service was excellent. I would definitely come back .
Nice evening. Food was good; everyone mentions the huge serving sizes. Service great. Just disappointing the star-attraction dessert options were already limited before 8pm!
I have been wanting to try this spot for awhile so I was so pleased when I was in the area and able to snag a table early Saturday evening. I tried the cornbread, the okra, catfish tacos and the seasonal pumpkin biscuit beer. The beer was honestly the highlight of the meal, I seriously loved it so much. The okra was an incredible dish- I have only ever had deep fried okra and honestly didn’t know that there were other ways to prepare it but WOW. The seasoning was perfection and apparently the okra was pickled before it’s cooked which I think really evevates the flavors and yet it wasn’t too salty. It was cooked to the point of being a bit caremelized and crispy. Truly delicious. The only thing I’d say is it was a touch too oily for my tastes. And don’t get me wrong I am from the south so I get it, but to a point the extra oil becomes unnecessary. The cornbread was delicious and felt extremely gluttonous between the butter and cheese (that’s a good thing). I can’t say I’d recommend the catfish tacos but I would definitely go back to try something else. Not sure how the catfish was prepared but I have only ever had deep fried catfish and that’s how I prefer it and was expecting that type of more fluffy catfish that’s crispy on the outside. That was not the type of catfish that’s crispy was on these tacos, so they weren’t my favorite. I will say the portions are very generous- I’d want to come back with at least a few friends next time so we’re able to try more dishes! These three were more than enough for my friend and I. I also have to give props to the server, wish I got her name but she was awesome and everybody working there was really friendly. I hope to try it again next time I’m in the upper west side
This place was recommended to me by friends, so I was really looking forward to visiting. I wanted to give it five stars, but we fell just a little short. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the ambience was lively. We sat outside, which was enjoyable, though we did have to deal with a bit of direct sunlight. The highlights for us were the fried pickles and the croque madame—both delicious, and the portions were huge (easily enough for two people). On the other hand, my drink and the gravy dish we tried were less impressive. Overall, though, I’d certainly recommend giving Jacob’s Pickles a try. It’s a fun spot with hearty portions and great service.
Unfortunately I was very underwhelmed by the food here. I had the chicken and toast. My chicken was overcooked and hard. And the toast was incredibly dry. What I did enjoy was the service! Everyone was super kind and accommodating. The portions are also very large and made for sharing.
Expectations were high and really wanted to love this place. They have one at Dumbo, but not a full menu and one at JFK airport. I have tried lots of southern style restaurants and biscuits and gravy, but this unfortunately missed the mark. Service wasn't bad, but wasn't that great either. It was little slow and took a minute to figure who was our server. The food was OK, grits were on runny side, the biscuits weren't to flaky, tender and little dense, the gravy was lacking in flavor for me. We didn't finish our dishes unfortunately or take it to go. I will stay with southern cooking from the south. I may give it another try. Which I usually do, but it may be awhile. We didn't try the pickles, they offered interesting options and they did look good.
The food was okay, but it was extremely disappointing to see them shrink their gluten free menu. For a southern place it’s surprising that they don’t have a gluten free friend chicken or that they got rid of their gluten free cornbread. Even their regular menu had items marked GF that weren’t on their GF menu and when I asked they said it wasn’t GF. So you can’t trust the menu for proper allergy information. My partner had the fried chicken and said it was very dry. The location in CT was better, I wouldn’t recommend this location to people.
We’ve been ordering from Jacob’s pickles for years and loved it. We mostly do take out. Occasionally we’ve had minor issues (frozen lettuce in the salad once) but mostly it’s excellent until now. The past two orders the chicken (which is what they are known for) is hardly edible. Very burnt. We also ordered the M&C - it arrived as a smaller portion (same price) and also burnt. Sadly we are done. They’ve changed management or something because the quality is now awful. I can’t recommend that anyone order from here. It’s not worth the price. Their chicken is truly terrible. It tastes like burnt fast food.
