Opinions de La Bergamote New York
I love this place. 10 years ago, I was in NY with my family, and we found this cafe. We ate there twice then, and did the same this time. I got the Eggs Baltic each time. This dish has made me like runny eggs, as long as it's part of an eggs benedict dish. Lol. The pastries and desserts at this cafe are amazing as well. Not to mention their hot latte was delicious. I did put some raw sugar in there to sweeten it up. I 1000% recommend this place.
Personally my favorite pancakes in the city. Not too crowded before 9 am. I don't even like blueberry pancakes but these are GREAT! Has a great crunch on the outside but melt-in-your mouth soft on the inside. My favorite place to go for breakfast after an overnight shift.
I heard a lot about this place and also from my friend who used to work there. This place was close to my hotel and I love tarts. The desserts were simply amazing and light to have for breakfast or anytime of the day. Next time I'll actually get a breakfast meal since it looked really good but I had rsvp elsewhere.
Warm welcome & lovely strong decaf espresso in a warm espresso cup. I didn’t try the exquisitely crafted baked treats that they create on site because it is a little early in the day but they were still a feast for my eyes.
Excellent cappuccino and pastries in Chelsea. Very clean seating area.
Following our trip to Fosetta to try pancake princess recommendations, we came here. Seemed like every table had at least one order of cakes. The cast iron ricotta pancake was crispy, well cooked and super tasty. The fruit and syrup were perfect complements. The baked eggs on tomato sauce with lamb sausage was excellent as well. Coffee drinks were very good.
We first discovered this place in 2018 and we have been coming back ever since. Whenever we have family or friends come visit us in NYC, we always bring them here! A wait is not uncommon, this place is intimate and not ideal for large groups. I definitely recommend getting a pastry or two on your way out the door for the road. We usually come for breakfast / brunch. The quiche is the best quiche I’ve ever had. Basically anything on the menu is flavorful and the portions are perfect to fill you up. The only menu item I didn’t absolutely love was the burger, but I’m picky with burgers.
We had dinner pty 2 escargot and French onion soup app main duck and steak Frites everything was excellent coffee and dessert 🎂 just a great experience we also took pastries to go for the morning they were delicious 😋🤤
Its a quaint patisserie that allows you to take a breath in the busy city. The pastries are delicious and so is the lunch.
Reliable neighborhood place. Great pancakes, omelets and salads. Beautiful French pastries. Good wine. Great coffee. What more do you need???
There is no shortage of quality french bakeries and patisseries in NYC. If you like to indulge in a buttery croissant or a fruit tarte from time to time, then you'll have your go to spot. Even though La Bergamote is a fair hike from our apartment, it is a family fav. A sidewalk breakfast on a warm spring Sunday, a birthday celebration rasberry tart, a handful of macarons, une galette des rois, a French ham and brie sandwitch - you cant go wrong with any of these standards. Service can tend on the slow side, and prices are, like seemingly everything in Manhattan these days, high. But at least you get what you pay for, and thats top quality French treats.
Highly underrated! I loved this little cafe/restaurant. Perfect spot for a nice brunch or just an afternoon coffee and pastry. It's quiet enough to have a conversation and loud enough to not have it be awkward. I ordered the bergamote burger and it came cooked perfectly topped with a wonderful chipotle dressing. The brioche bun here had a flaky almost croissant texture making the burger all the better. My girlfriend had the eggs Baltic which tasted a thousand times better then I expected. Crunchy muffin, silky salmon, runny egg with a kick of garlic and creaminess at the end. The fries here are also pretty bomb. Finally, you must get the napoleon pastry, absolute to die for. I can see myself coming back again soon. If I lived in the area, I would be here everyday.
Best cake I ate in my entire life! Get the dome cake! And you will get this cake in all your special occasions! Location: It is located in 9th Avenue, Chelsea Area. There is indoor and outdoor seating! Very compliant with covid precautions. The indoor is typical french dine in restaurant. Nice display of patisseries when you enter. Service: the servers are very nice! Very knowledgeable in what’s on the menu. Very friendly as well. They greet you as soon as you enter the restaurant. Food: Since I move here in NYC, this is the only place I go for cake to celebrate any special occasion and I usually get the TRIPLE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE aka DOME CAKE: it is shape like a dome and when you cut it the layers of chocolatey goodness surprises you! The cake is not that sweet and because it is dome shape you get every piece of the white, milk and dark chocolate in every slice! It was coated as well with dark chocolate glazed on the outside! Price rating: 8/10, $52 for a 9 inch dome cake! It is really worth it because it is soo good! Maybe I will try their food menu when I come back! But do get the dome cake!! It is the best!
We had a very nice e breakfast here on a Thursday morning. The food was very good. We had the eggs Benedict and the Almond Berry French toast both of which were prepared very well and delicious. Our waiter was great and very helpful wit the menu. This is a nice spot. We will be back to try lunch or dinner next.
On a recent frigid day, I thought that a good onion soup would hit the spot, and the one at La Bergamote more than lived up to my needs and expectations--deep flavor and lots of onion and cheese with a brown "glaze". The same was true of the couscous with lamb and merguez sausage (apparently available on Fridays) which was also outstanding--the couscous was delicately seasoned in a delicious broth in which the lamb, sausage and perfectly cooked vegetables sat, the sight of which was as warming as the dish was delicious. I would have been delighted to be served this meal at any Parisian bistro so was particularly gratified that it is available in Chelsea (no plane ticket required).
BEST DESSERTS I HAVE EVER HAD SO FAR!! Wish I could give them 10 Stars. I found this bakery without looking for it, We hd a Family trip and were going back to the car, and I casually saw this, I just couldn't resist!!! You see my box in the pics, but my sister had another one, and also my mom had a full box! This is an amazing desserts Bakery, everything looks so delicious and you would think they are expensive but They are NOT!! They are very Yummy and comestible, savory!! Not sweet at all. I had a Cream Brûlée, Tiramisu and Pascaline, also had some Macaroons (PISTACHIO, Passion Fruit, and Rose.. Recommend all these flavors, Yummy Yummy!! William assisted us, he was very patient lol my mom asked all possible questions that you would think about .. I also bought a Baguette, I was very fresh, and tosted with a British butter, Oh lord** INCREDIBLE flavor!
Pre-theatre meal in NYC did not disappoint. My daughter had been for pastries but never for dinner. Our meals were exceptional - the trout was one of the best fish-based plates I've eaten anywhere. The risotto was also delicious. And the pastries? Next level. It's not cheap but it's worth every penny
Stop the press!!! I am so happy we discovered this place on the last day, if sooner, I’d be on a continuous sugar rush. For reference, this is a review for pastries they sell, meals/breakfast we didn’t try (yet!) The peach puff pastry stopped me dead in my tracks. Wow 🤩 pastry is crispy and has a great structure and consistency. The crème pâtissière and the peach 🍑 are simply delicious. What makes this one, it’s not overly sweet, it’s simply perfect. The almond croissant 🥐 was an example of perfection. Pure pleasure, incredible, just some ways to describe it. Also, not super sweet and the almond filling has a nice consistency which contains roughly cut almonds. Wow. Wanted to take better pictures but got distracted with the incredible tastes. Go, and enjoy the pastries. Tell me what you think, I need to know how you experienced this pastry.
Stopped in for the first time during our usual Chelsea and High Line walk. Went in with no expectations and was impressed… easily the best steak frites I’ve had in Paris, London, or New York for quite some time including the places that pride themselves on it.
A good place for a coffee and watching the world go by. A selection of sweet treats to have with your coffee. There are toilets and there is a separation between the restaurant seating and the cafe seating. The prices are reasonable but the portion size is small. It is quite Francophile but with an American twist, such as a birthday cake flavoured macaron. A little gem in Chelsea that is worth a visit.
Had a lovely time at this little cozy French spot. The atmosphere was relaxed and homely. Perfect for a casual diner with friends. And the desert baked in house were incredible. I'll defenitly be back!
Oh my God!!!!! Best sweets in Town!!! We were parked near La Bergamote and my sister saw this place while going back to our car and decided to go in. What a pleasant place!! William was above understanding as he was bombarded with questions from my mom, my sister and me. He was very happy to answer ALL of them... When I say "ALL of them", I mean like 20 questions. I was feeling bad for him having to put up with us. **Hehehe** I ordered a bunch of sweets: cream brûlée, french toasts, macaroons, another almond dessert. I have pictures of mines, my sister and mom got a box full of sweets each, as well as a baguette for them to share. I loved EVERYTHING!!! Haven't tried the cream brûlée yet but looks as tasty as everything else. The macaroons were the bomb, they taste delicious and felt like they were freshly made as the outer was crispy and the center was very soft. My boyfriend had never had macaroons before and devoured them within seconds, then he was asking for more and wanted to eat my sister's, that's how good they were! My mom wants to go back today cause she already went through her box! Loved this place. Will definitely be back as they are asking for more sweets from here. 1000% recommended!!!!!!!!!!!
We were going to Chelsea market to walk around and eat breakfast, but didn't realize that even though the market opens early, most of the tenants don't open until much later! So we decided to look for a restaurant relatively close by, and found this place. OH MY GOSH, their breakfast was amazing. Our group of 7 all agreed it was the best breakfast we had on our visit in New York. I got the Lemon Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes, and it was perfect. Pancakes had the barest crunch on the outside, soft and gooey with sweetness on the inside, and the berries add a nice sweet tartness to the whole dish. Definitley a must visit for breakfast. I don't have a photo but also tried their scrambled eggs and again, perfectly executed french scrambled eggs. Wonderful.
The combination of good food and fun atmosphere works perfectly. The staff maintains consistent service quality. The spotless setting here creates a cool atmosphere. The food represents exceptional skill. I urge visiting this place soon.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food here. I had eggs Baltic and it was delicious. I also had a lemon tart to go which was tart and tasty. It has both outdoor and indoor seatings. It was a bit chilly for me so I ate indoors. The service was adequate and friendly. The staff covered both indoor and outdoor seatings and seemed busy. It’s not a fancy French cafe.
Stumbled across this place on the way to Chelsea Flea Market and decided to have breakfast here rather than at there…. Ordered a flat white, my usual Eggs Royale - renamed Eggs Baltic here and a yogurt granola berry bowl. The coffee was a nice large 16oz cup but too hot to drink so yes, the milk was burnt and not as good as it looked. For my Eggs Baltic, I asked to replace the English muffin with wholegrain which was no issue. It was fine, and the cream cheese base added a little something. For the yoghurt, the berry’s were delicious and the dish was fine, but granola was like some roasted oats - maybe there is a different understanding here, but I assumed clusters. Still was ok and the service was fine. On the setting, I think NYC could do with a few more cafe and the bakery inside looked delicious. Overall was fine, but would not come back for the coffee - the food yes.
Good dessert place in chelsea. The mouse cake is nice and smooth. The chocolate mouse is cute and delicious.
I went there for breakfast. This is truly a great bakery! We had pancakes, a pain au chocolat, and a small tart. Everything was absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend it. The service was quick, and the waiter was very kind and helpful, especially in guiding us to choose the right food for my girlfriend, who has a nut allergy. The only downside is the price. We spent $50 for breakfast, which I think is quite expensive. I’ll be back again
The service is great even you are here only for a coffee and a pastry. I got a small coffee and an almond croissant. The almond paste was nutty and not too sweet, but the croissant itself is neither flaky or fluffy, a little bit over baked. Somehow it seems that the croissant was pressed. Overall not bad. The place is getting packed during brunch hour. By the way, $10 minimum for credit card.
This is my go-to spot for high end pastries and a loaf of brioche bread to go, but they also offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch. Everything I've ordered here is good, from the quiche Lorraine to the perfect French toast to the shoestring potatoes (French fries McDonald's style). The lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes are brunch are fluffy heaven. The staff at the counter and in the dining area are friendly, helpful, and always a pleasure to deal with. A great spot for locals or tourists who want to take a break in a French-inspired cafe.
Decent place for a brunch date. Bit pricey for what you get (note, there is no refill on drip coffee which is unusual for NYC brunch). Vice is pretty chill and relaxing with majority of the customers being locals. I’d come back for their almond croissant but probably pass on the savory menu.
La Bergamote is a solid brunch spot, but it didn’t quite blow me away. Cute, cozy space with a French café vibe and both a takeaway counter and a seated dining area—we opted to sit down. We ordered an oat latte and an iced tea (the iced tea was very good). To eat, we split the chive scrambled eggs and the onion soup. The eggs were very good and the brioche toast was great, but the portion was pretty small for the price. The onion soup was also good, just not the best I’ve had in the city. Service was fine and the atmosphere was pleasant, but nothing felt especially standout. I’d definitely come back, though—next time just for coffee and pastries. The pastry case looked great.
The decor of La Bergamote is classic and elegant with cozy ambiance. We were appealed by its desserts lineup when we walked in. We got their Napoleon, Almond Croissant, Almond Brioche and Raisin Swirl as our first try. Everything was decent and delicate with a reasonable price. Our favorites were the Napoleon which the filling was rich and Almond Brioche with soft & fluffy texture. However, we were a little disappointed with their Almond croissant since it was lacking filling.
Beautiful pastries, lovely spot for a meal. My wife had had an outstanding fish dinner so we decided to return for breakfast. We shared a basic scrambled eggs with a side of potatoes and each had coffee. It was fine. Why not 5 stars. The bill was $39 + tip. What if I had had a breakfast dish of my own? Why no topping up of coffee? Perhaps the rationale is that the French restaurants do not offer this, but do they expect 20 - 30% tips?
It has a very nice vignette and is in a good area with seats outside, but its quite pricy. $5.50 for a small hot chocolate.
This place is good. We only went there for dessert so keep that in mind. When walking towards Chelsea market we came across this and put it on our list to visit since the pastries looked good. I have to say that they looked better than they actually tasted but they were still good. I have to compare these pastries to the ones at eatly and the eatly ones are better. The cappuccino was ok. Their sandwiches and salads looked really good. So I would like to try that.
I bought the smoked salmon sandwich on a baguette and an iced coffee. The iced coffee is just mediocre, nothing to rave about. I should have gotten hot coffee. I do see that they serve Harney and sons which is great, I'm a big fan. Let me start by saying I used to work for a popular smoked salmon shop, coffee shops around the city, gourmet food places in NY, etc. I was not super impressed but I did appreciate that the bread was super fresh. Honestly there's no real contenders it seems like in this neighborhood for breakfast within my time restraints and need for a restroom.
Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Overall: A cute dessert shop on the corner that had a lot of patronage and a wide selection to choose from. The extended review... Food: 3/5 - We got a few desserts ranging from pistachio to strawberry to lemon. The taste was standard fare. Service: 3/5 - Standard service. Ambiance: 4/5 - Some seating both indoor and outdoor. When we went seating was fairly hard to find but we were lucky.
We got a coffee and a dessert . No table offered.. the servers were too busy in handling other guests, we must be looking too tired for their cafe ! They have a nice spread of desserts and beverages (hot /cold) Somehow the dessert had us But it was too sweet for our taste, so we balanced it with coffee ;Overall not bad. The place was getting packed during brunch hour. By the way, $10 minimum for credit card.
Two pastries to go cost $12.50. While everything looks mouthwatering delicious, the custard filling in my pastry was too cloying. On a 90-degree summer day, it actually made me feel a little sick. The service is adequate but rude, even though they're clearly not French! This is a place reserved for a now and then splurge, but it's too rich for my taste and pocketbook!
We had high hopes for La Bergamote, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. When we arrived, we were kept waiting while the staff chatted among themselves, completely ignoring us. We came in specifically for pastries, but instead of clear guidance, we were told to sit at a table. Later, another server told us we had to move to the bar because tables were reserved for brunch. The staff was nonchalant, inattentive, and borderline rude throughout. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. Sadly, we won’t be returning.
Check your bill……I was with two friends, and we ordered three coffees and some pastry. When we received the bill, I was surprised to see that the waiters decided to add 20% tip on morning coffee & pastry…... what was more surprising is that after the waiters added the tip, they still left space for additional tip………………………… I have to admit that the coffee and the pastry were very good, but It’s extremely disappointing with the attempted to force the tip.
The most disappointing restaurant in NYC. We ate french toast, pancake and the special menu of the day, omelette. And cakes for the dessert. Everything was bland and expensive for the quality of food and i think my expectation was too high for the cakes. I don’t think i would come back.
The tastes of desserts were pretty bland unfortunately. Chocolate meringue and chocolate mousse was straightforward, the pistachio one I got the other day was dry. A staff avoid me and my friend twice, not willing to talk to us and pushed person beside to do so... it was uncomfortable at the moment.
This should actually be Zero stars!!! I was looking forward to celebrating my friend’s birthday here, but unfortunately our experience fell short. My friend arrived early, ordered a tea, and was seated in a different area. When I arrived, I explained to the waitress that we were waiting for a dining table for our meal, but she told us we couldn’t sit in the dining area because my friend had already paid for her tea. I tried to mention I had a reservation, but she walked away. There were open tables, so the interaction felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. Both employees we encountered seemed unfriendly, which was disappointing for what was meant to be a special celebration. Sadly, we ended up leaving in the rain to find another restaurant. I hope management addresses this, as I know this place can offer a much warmer experience.
I’ve been here many times. Today, I asked if I could sit outside, and the waitress said yes and served me there. Before I could finish my coffee and pastry, someone who appeared to be the manager told me, in a rude and accusatory manner, that I had to leave because the table was reserved and I hadn’t ordered lunch
Stopped in for a late lunch on 6/27. My wife ordered a French onion soup and a side of asparagus. The soup was delicious. The asparagus looked like they were microwaved. Dry and tasteless. My steak sandwich looked like shoe leather and tasted close to it too. I purchased two linger tarts (13.90??) to go. Seems like they were days old. The bill with tip was $90. How absurd? This place used to be a wonderful spot. I guess they just don’t care anymore.
Ordered the CHEVRE CHAUD Which usually comes with three pieces of baguette bread with baked goat cheese on top. It was served to us today with only one piece baguette bread. So we asked for an additional two pieces. After getting pushback from the waiter about how this is always served like this ( my wife has ordered the salad about 20 times) we explained to the waiter that it comes usually with three pieces and we would like two additional pieces. He said OK I can do that but I’ll have to charge for two… We thought he was gonna charge for the two additional small baguettes with goat cheese on top…We didn’t know that he was going to charge us for another salad. As a regular customer of the restaurant, I find it deeply insulting and off-putting to be charged $16 for two pieces of bread with cheese! I asked for the manager on duty and I was told that there was no manager on duty. Wife and I are not going back anytime soon… At least not to this location! The 52nd St. location has a reasonable chef and staff.
This was listed in the NYT as one of the best bakeries, I had to write a review. I have gone to this bakery for 20 years and it USED to be fantastic. The past two times our pastries were stale. The price is a little high, but when it delicous, it's fine. Stsle it's worth nothing.
The food and service were great, but I won’t be returning. It was heartbreaking to see how overworked the staff was, especially the barista who was giving it her all. To make matters worse, I couldn’t even leave a tip because their outdated system doesn’t allow credit card tips. In 2024, in a city like this, it’s shocking that a busy restaurant hasn’t caught up with modern payment options. Disappointing.
I visited Saturday, June 7, and brought pastries and a hamburger with fries. The napoleon and croissants tasted stale just not worth the price. I requested the hamburger medium-well, and I got an overcooked patty with smothered cheese just very sloppy and salty. The fries were thinly cut, undercooked and no flavor. It was not fresh and tasted old. Fries are supposed to taste fresh and crispy. The waiter should've asked if I want the fries fresh & crispy or old & undercooked. If the owners read this, you should speak to the kitchen staff so you don't sell non-fresh food to customers like myself. The bill was $51.51 and a refund would be the least you can do for this bad experience. When I got home this was the horrible surprise I encountered. I usually eat at the Carnegie Diner & Cafe, where food is fresh and tasty. It's highly unlikely I would return after this awful take-out service. La Bergamote owners need to be aware when a customer has a bad service experience and rectify the issue so it doesn't happen again.
