Opinions de The Tippler New York
An extensive cocktail menu and a well curated food menu. My type of place. Great for first dates or friend reunions, a versatile venue tucked under Chelsea Market. Avoid the weekend bridge and tunnel crowd unless you like that mix. The cheese board is a must have.
Great hidden gem of Chelsea market. It's best to access the entrance from the side street. The drinks are pricey but the atmosphere is great to have a glass of wine and catch up with friends. There are definitely cheaper options on 14th Street. The staff are always friendly and helpful and even go out of their way to help find seating when it gets busy!
Had a an amazing time catching up with my friend at The Tippler. Went on a Wednesday night and had a fantastic service with Flavio, he was personable, knew his drinks really well and was very nice. Will absolutely make this a frequent visit in the future!
I went here for after work drinks on a Friday night. The Tippler has a cool vibe for a place minimalist decor. The menu is focused on their wide range of unique cocktails -- all of which are delicious. I ordered a Diego's Donkey, a pisco based mixed drink, followed by a Gin and Chronic. Both blew my mind. I'll definitely be back again.
Really cute underground bar… which never fails. The Hype Man was delicious and decently priced considering the area. My friends had sour fruit cider which they love
I went with a friend at 6 on a Friday. It was easy to find a seat that early, and it was only moderately full when we left around 7:30. We tried 4 different cocktails (including a minty frozen special, zomg delicious), the deviled egg toast (surprisingly delicious because that's not really my thing), and the tomato mozzarella panini (standard and good). Everything was prompt and tasty, and our server was very friendly. I'd definitely go back and feel comfortable recommending it to anyone.
Amazing cocktail selection. All of the drinks are made with a great amount of care and pride and you can really taste that. Cocktail selection changes pretty often so it seems impossible to get bored with this place. Very cool ambiance consisting of huge floor rugs, rustic tables and woodwork and books everywhere.
Really cool chill Spot! Dark ambience with a hip vibe.Lots of space and delicious drinks. They're a little pricey are $15 a cocktail but they're pretty strong! Get the birthday shot even if it's not your birthday and the Grill cheese is Fantastical!!! I definitely recommend this spot if you're in the area.
Hard to find but an awesome place. Took my friend an I a good bit to find the basement of Chelsea Market. We ended up asking a security guard for directions. The place was full but not crowded on a Monday night. The drinks were unique and delicious - two things I expect if I go to a cocktail bar. The servers come when you flag them but otherwise leave you alone, which is great for a bar. This is a great place to stop for drinks in Chelsea.
Love this place, great atmosphere and styling. Drinks were great both times I went. Can be a little pricey but its NYC so it's to be expected. Definitely take a look at their drink menu and try one of their cocktails, they had some great creations when I was there.
I enjoyed grabbing drinks at The Tippler. It’s a little underground spot below Chelsea Market that’s got some cool decor. Really enjoyed the cocktails they offered. They also put descriptions on the menu of what each cocktail should taste like so it makes it easier to order. I would visit again for drinks with friends.
This bar doesn't have much food options.
AMAZING drinks, AMAZING vibes, AMAZING service. 10/10 bar, no notes. Favorite bar I visited in NYC so far!
Randomly stumbled upon this gem last weekend on a Sat, 2/17. Got here around 6pm and left around 10p. The traffic picked up between 8-9p. All the bartenders were professional and friendly. But CJ Is by far the best and my favorite bartender. He makes a great French 75. He made sure I was well taken care of. I came alone so whenever I stepped away he would cover my drink for me. He made sure that I understood how to order from Dickensons (Chelsea Marker) next door. I lost my AirPod and CJ went above and beyond to retrieve it for me. Give this man a raise seriously! For his excellent customer service. The ambiance was dim lit and intimate setting with plants surrounding. Very spacious. Music was throwback r&b for the most. Will return. Highly recommend this place!
Great space and very nice cocktails served fast by knowledgeable and friendly staff. This place hits the sweet spot between luxury and relaxed. Fancy but not stuffy. Pretty loud, but in a good way. Will be back
The tippler is a pretty fun place to go to for a drink after a long day of checking out Chelsea market, the apple store and/or the Starbucks reserve (which are fairly cool to check out in their own right). There are a few other bars in the area and west village that are a bit cheaper if you are feeling adventurous, but the ambience and experience is tough to beat here. The entrance is a bit tough to find so your phone GPS is your friend, and there's no reception as the location is in the (spacious) basement. Tends to get crowded on the weekends as well.
A good vibe and great espresso martinis. Went on a Thursday and there was plenty of seating and no cover
Had a great time here. Drinks were great and host was attentitive. Great for groups. Right next to Chelsea Market and Taco No. 1 if you want to grab a bite and they let you bring it inz
Amazing underground bar! It's in heart of Chelsea! The drinks were pretty good, with a reasonable price! The bar is very busy and sometimes is hard to find a table if you are bigger group so i would recommend making reservation if you are a bigger group!Very good ambiance and atmosphere!
Our regular go to bar. Below Chelsea market, almost has a feel of a speakeasy. For cocktails like old fashioned and Manhattan they are pretty much the gold standard. Food is very basic. Don't go if you have hungry. You will get some food to nibble only. Go for drinks and great lively environment.
Hosted a party here and The Tippler team is next to none. Angela is fantastic and easy to work with. She was able to cater out the space and was very accommodating with questions and request. The entire staff is just as awesome as the space itself. Highly recommend having your party here or to check it out for a cocktail.
Drinks were great, and the space is ideal for large or small groups. I would come again if I was in the area, much better than the pretentious other options.
I hosted a big birthday party here and worked with Angela and team to set up a reserved space, organize food and drinks and it was fantastic! They were awesome and I was able to stay within budget for the open bar and we had a blast. Highly recommend this spot if you are looking to host a big group for a fun night out to celebrate a special something
Quiet And nice place to have a beer in Chelsea market! We went there to test for a while after walking all day, was perfect.
Went in with friends after a gig at The City Winery, I asked if they made a decent spicy margarita. Guess what it was amazing, if only I can remember the name of the server
This is why Chelsea Market is so cool. They have everything. Theres something for everyone to enjoy. The prices are high, but what ya gonna do. Its what it is. Friendly staff, great cocktails.
Great bar in a very nice cozy place in Chelsea market.Happy hr M-F 4 to 7pm.The cocktails taste amazing especially the mezcal and tequila ones.Bartender landon was very cool and knows his stuff.Higlhly recommend it if you are in this part of town.
Great happy hour, very good cocktails. Basement vibes, so I personally prefer it at night or with poorer weather
The place is amazing and the staff is wonderful. I got a drink that was too strong for me (totally my fault) and they offered to switch it for something else. Then they checked multiple times to see if I liked the second drink. They were so incredibly thoughtful and the drink was amazing. Thank you so so much!!!
My first time visiting “The Tippler” cocktail lounge in Chelsea (W. 16th Street, btw 9th & 10th Ave.). Really great atmosphere and vibe, well-made drinks, wide variety of spirits including signature mixed drinks, beer, wine, and others. Would be a good spot for happy hour or to bring a date for drinks as they have plenty of seating and more private seating areas if you’re able to grab them. Definitely look forward to going back, and I recommend to anyone looking for a place to grab a good drinks in a cool setting/atmosphere.
Walking in this place is cool, your going down some stairs feeling a little lost, following arrows, drunk statue then boom! Your in the bar area a pretty large place with plenty of seating. It’s has the brick and wood dim lit old school but modern vibe. There is a fun drink menu and they even have mock tails. I’m doing dry January and got the not a Negroni. It tasted like one minus the Booz! We had a blast
This is definitely a hidden gem withing the city. The drinks and food were extraordinary. The old fashioned comes with a samurai sword because they make it with a Japanese whiskey. The presentation and the ambience was a also key and the music was not too loud or too low. They will accommodate any party. The restrooms were clean and the service was great. It is a basement so if you happen to have some type of disability, then this place is not for you. My overall experience was excellent. #ambience #samurai #hidden #clean #whiskey
Highly recommend. Warm and cozy atmosphere, feels very hip and trendy. Delicious selection of small plates and some great beers and ciders, as well as an almost overwhelming variety of classy cocktails. My bartender took the time out to figure out the best drink for me, and I'm glad she did - the Call an Uber alone was worth the trip.
One of my absolute favorite bars in the city. It's downstairs from Chelsea Market, so it's not very easy to spot, but that means that it's never been crowded. Cocktails are unique and delicious, and about what price I'd expect to pay for Chelsea. I'd recommend it more, but I'd love it if it stayed a hidden gem.
My go-to spot for after office hours. Have had great times going with a big group on a Saturday night, though there's a line most of the time. And have also had a very lovely time going in a date during the week with my boyfriend. Good atmosphere and drinks and apps.
The space is pretty spacious and unique. It's not as quiet as your classic speakeasy but still a fun experience. The drinks are pretty good and there isn't a huge wait to order drinks. I'd recommend the Booty Collins.
I did not like that if you arrive after 11 pm you have to wait in the line for 15 to 30 min. Besides that, the place is great, like an old industrial style under club. on the back they have tables were you can have some nice appetizers. The music is really good between hip hop and 90s dance. The cider and the Oscar cocktails are the best options.
Went there last night. The atmosphere is great down at this bar. Location is all wood with a few interesting nooks and crannies. The drinks were excellent everyone loved what they ordered. The prices are over ten dollars per drink. There is very little food to order so plan to eat somewhere else. Great location to just hang out and get a drink with some friends for a few hours.
Cool bar in meatpacking. Much more casual and relaxed than other spots. Weeknights this is the tech hangout (Google offices are across the street). Weekends you get some locals and bridge and tunnelers. It gets crowded and loud. The drinks are good. Food menu is small and nothing special. A nice place to start the night.
Fun bar! Great drinks. Very large and spacious, so a great spot for a big group. Service was a bit slow but it could have been because there were so many of us (15+). Overall great spot.
Just another reason why Chelsea Market is awesome regardless of the constant barrage of tourists. I'm lucky enough to work right by the Tippler. I had never been until late last year but a bunch of my co-workers were going one night so I tagged along. The place is a trip to get to as it's all the way in the basement of the market; what Melissa C. said about it being like a speakeasy without the pretension is dead on. Prices are very reasonable and the vibe is dead on; it's also larger than a closet unlike most speakeasies. The flip side is that the Tippler can be dicey on busy nights as it does pack out. But for a mid-week drink, it's second to none in this area. For Chelsea, the prices here are amazing. Unlike Bathtub Gin's $16-18 cocktails, here they're mostly $12. In addition they have a very good bottle/draft list for beer, a decent wine list, and they also have food (haven't tried it but I hope to eventually). The service is very good for a place like this, and that goes for the bartenders and waitresses. All in all there isn't much more you can ask for a bar. I hesitate to say the place is can't-miss or one-of-a-kind, but it is damned good.
Great place for friends to have some fun! Good service and loved the atmosphere.
The easiest way to find this place is to walk on sixteenth street and about midway between ninth and tenth avenue the entrance will be by a big "Open" sign on the Chelsea market building. Go down the steps and you'll be rewarded with some pretty good and inventive cocktails ($15) and find yourself in a dimly lit, relaxed speakeasy atmosphere. The place is somehow both big enough for groups and feels intimate for two.
This massive cocktail den in the basement of the Chelsea Market has a beverage for every taste - but it's only really good when it's quiet. When it's not too busy you can find a perch and work your way through the list, trying innovative drinks (note: if you order something dubbed "The Crippler", don't be surprised when you have a headache the next day). When it gets crowded though - forget it. The room attracts suits from surrounding offices and loses it's magical vibe when it's full of meatheads. The only saving grace is that you can usually find a quiet table at all times if you search the numerous nooks that dot the space.
Dark and mysterious with amazingly tasty and potent mixed drinks. I found the server a bit eager so I just walked over the bar. But I think there is a nook for any type. The wood and exposed brick with the dim but warm lighting goes a long way.
I really like this place. I go there often for the really great cocktails selection, and the ability from the bartender to suggest drinks base don your preferences. Good selection of food and snacks as well. The prices however are not okay. Some items are overpriced but it's close to Chelsea Market > tourists!!
Who knew this place was under Chelsea Market? Spacious bar with a solid cocktail list and good food options. Can easily accommodate a large group, even on a Thursday night. Can be a tad loud, so bring some lozenges for your throat if you plan to talk a lot. Very laid back and great location.
I guess we hit it on an off night, but before dinner on a Saturday night, there was no crowd and the bar was nice and relaxing. The beer list is not very extensive, but the cocktails are great. Loved the spice level and strong favors in them. Service was quick and we were able to get drinks and make our dinner reservation quickly.
I'm going to write a positive review so I don't get antagonized at work like my last job (ifykyk). But this place is actually great! Come here often after work and the vibes are great and drinks are good as well.
Great cocktails. Service can be slow but generally pretty friendly. The food is pretty decent too. Their pretzels are great and their toasts are really yummy. The egg one is excellent. It's definitely pricey, but its Manhattan so what can you do.
Cute and quaint bar under Chelsea Market. Very spacious and a wide variety of specialty cocktails. They also have a few snacks. The pretzels are worth having with your drink. It's a little dark in some corners but that just makes it cozy.
Pretty great cocktail bar in the gut of Chelsea Market. Fairly large open space along the bar, plenty of tables, and an extensive selection of delicious drinks. If you don't like crowds or noise, I'd recommend coming here at off hours, as it can be overwhelmed with both at peak times.
Hidden away from the touristy furor of Chelsea Market yet conveniently located. This is definitely a gem. The bar is pretty huge but gets pretty busy. They have a cute crowd and the brick alcoves offer good spots for a date or large group. They also have healthy sounding cocktails so you don’t feel guilty about that mid-week (or midday, who’s judging?) drink.
The drinks were made well. Very enjoyable. Table service was quick. But does require you to tip 20% for table service even though submitting order directly through online system. At the end of the night the table next to ours broke a glass. When we were leaving we told the bartenders trying to give them a heads up but instead of being appreciative of it they just rolled their eyes and coughed a snarky remark.
Underground, so no cell service. WiFi available but kinda spotty. Cozy and spacious bar with standing and seating area. Our waitress was helpful and kind. The pretzel and chips were fine and it was nice to see some non-alcoholic cocktails available. It’s pretty loud /stuffy but that’s just my opinion. I think you can bring food in from Chelsea Market if you want. Clean bathrooms and a cute neon sign too. It was nice we could reserve a table space without putting a deposit or minimal spend for a group.
When we first heard about The Tippler, it was pre-pandemic and was still a speakeasy where you had a password to get in. During a trip to Manhattan, we went through the “secret entrance” in the Chelsea Market, but the bar was closed and wouldn’t open for several hours, so it became a “next time” destination. No longer a speakeasy, the street entrance is marked with an “Open” sign, so at this point, it’s really just an underground bar at the Chelsea Market. Which is fine, but I think a big part of the draw was the speakeasy experience. We thought the bar opened at 4:00, but when we got there around 4:20 we were told it wasn’t open until 5:00. The bouncer was rather rude about it, and very unfriendly. We had been in the Chelsea Market already, so took a quick hop up to The Highline to wait. At about 4:58 we went back, and the bouncer again told us the bar wasn’t open and we couldn’t wait by the door - it was rather cold out, there wasn’t a crowd, we weren’t being rowdy - and again, he was extremely rude about it. So we went back up to the street to wait two minutes. There was another couple up there who had likewise been treated rudely. When the door opened, we went in and got a table. From then on the experience was really great. The waitress was friendly and attentive, and the old fashioned was one of the best I’ve had. We loved the vibe and the interior, and overall just had a really great time while we were there. I’m sure it gets very crowded during peak times, but we really enjoyed having a table and a little space. Despite the poor introductory experience from the bouncer, I recommend giving it a try - just make sure to get there AFTER it officially opens!
We were having fun photographing the vintage ambiance in low light and having a drink hosted by #samsung837. The Tippler is a perfect venue for large groups events. Even entering the venue as we descend into the cellar is fun. It mimics a museum of antiques and if you enjoy story-like scenes of history cupped in every nook & cranny you will have fun here. Try the Clockwork Orange craft cocktail prepared with artisanal spirits.
I like the ambience and style of the place. Next to Chelsea Market, the bar is in the basement and feels relatively casual, but not a dive bar. They have some cheeky named cocktails and a selection of ales. Water is free and self serve. On a Saturday night a few tables were reserved but there was still some tables to be claimed. There are two stars taken off for...It's not rowdy or interesting enough to have such terrible acoustics. The noise is very noisy and it's impossible to hear. And no one was particularly impressed with their cocktails in our group.
Very cool ambiance but the bartender was pretty unfriendly and had a look on his face like he hated his life. It may have been the day/time) I was there (Friday at around midnight), but I was disappointed with the crowd and the atmosphere was not upbeat at all. I think it would've been better with some good music playing at least.
Updating my review of the The Tippler. It's fun place to grab drinks with friends but it gets insanely slammed. Prepare to wait ages upon ages for your server — we easily would have doubled or even tripled our bill had she bothered to pay attention to us. Drinks are inventive and fun. A solid wine and beer list round out the mix, and the food they do have is tasty. Perhaps not the best setting on a brilliant spring afternoon, the space is dark (though alluring) when one would rather be outside. A great spot if you can get there before the crowds do.
We went there for drinks only. Our IDs were checked and we proceeded down to a very large dark room. We found a table and after several minutes to allow our eyes to adjust we found the QR code for the menu. We placed our order via the cell phone, which requires prepayment, and were automatically charged a 20% service fee! What service? The only interaction we had was when we got the drinks delivered. I am a generous tipper but do not appreciate being charged upfront for something that I didn't receive. Why not just charge more for your drinks and be honest about it?
Nice underground bar... hard to spot from the outside, and a bit of a maze inside, but once you get there the space is big and open, lots of seating and was never too loud so you can have a decent conversation. The cocktails are great and have a variety of flavours. The food was disappointing... our order took nearly an hour to arrive (it went to the wrong table), and when it did come it was not really substantial food, we had the wedges, which was about 4 wedges total and nothing too exciting. Would be much better with a more varied, substantial food menu.
This place can get crowded and packed before 1 or 2am. The only time I have been here there was a line to get in. The decor inside is pretty cool with the exposed brick. The bar itself is pretty nice. It is a good place to meet up with a big group of friends. There is ample space and the music is pretty good. Not the greatest selection of beers on tap but it will do.
Hit or miss. DJ caters to the crowd, which is great. There is an entrance fee at the ground level before you descend into the bar. I visited Sat night, April 2025; not sure if fees apply at all times. Venue is underground with open space for dancing/mingling and tables for groups. Gendered bathrooms have multiple stalls, and there is a mirrored wall for photo opps. Industrial vibes and low-lit ambiance. Sadly, they do not vet the patrons or have security inside the bar. One of the women in my party was harassed by some men who would not take "no thank you" for an answer. Thankfully one of the guys in our party intervened. Disappointed to experience this.
The drinks are made top notch quality. However, the hostess was very rude. She came up to us and said hello and I said hi how are you doing. Just being friendly. And she said what? Looking perplexed. I responded oh I asked how are you? And she continued to look confused and then talked to the person I was with, completely ignoring me. As a person who’s worked retail, maybe she had an off day, maybe the music was too loud, or maybe she could have asked me to clarify and been a mature, professional hostess who makes their customers feel comfortable and acknowledged.
Cool atmosphere but below average service and cocktails. Wanted to give the one bartender the benefit of the doubt but they were both super unfriendly. Bummer! (The bar was not busy when we were there).
Absolutely underwhelming experience. Snack options were extremely limited and below average in quality. We asked for some extra salsa with our chips and not only were we charged for it—we were charged twice. Ordered the advertised drink special, only to be charged full price without explanation. To top it off, they sneakily added a 20% gratuity for a party of two, which is both deceptive and unacceptable. The server presented the bill without mentioning the included tip, clearly hoping we’d unknowingly double-tip. This kind of dishonest practice is infuriating. Always check your bill carefully here. The total came to over $70 for just two drinks and a snack, which is outrageous even by New York standards. Giving 2 stars solely for the decent ambience—otherwise this would be a solid 1-star experience.
Ordered drinks and paid, all well till then. A few days later, come to find out that my credit card was charged a 30% tip I did not give. This should serve as a warning to double check your charges before you proceed to pay the balance. Disappointing! I won,t be back. When going out, I wanna have fun and not worry about being potentially ripped off, and having to review my credit card charges. NAH, thank you.
Beautiful place but no cocktail love. We ordered 3 different cocktails and 2 were served in pint glasses and not one of them tasted as intended. No bourbon taste and way to much cinnamon on top for the Uber, randomly mixed juce and tequila for the Clockwork orange and the G&T had tasteless, postmix tonic with a lime on the side ...
Deserves zero stars. The bouncers are extremely racist and did not let us in bc we were “intoxicated”, while casually letting in a bunch of white “hot” girls. I had been warned of this by a friend prior to me going there and was disappointed to have the same experience as then. Sad to see such places in the trendiest neighborhoods of New York City.
The Tippler is a cool place hidden in the meat packaging district. The decor is cool and rustic. It’s very loud in there. Drinks are over priced averaging at $15 per mix drink and the sizes are tiny! Small plate foods are also over prices and tiny. Paid $9 for a 4”x4”x3”h square bowl of Chex mix. The fire alarm went off with flashing lights a sirens. It lasted for a good 20-30mins. Lights kept flashing. Not sure if it was part of the ambiance or a false alarm. Non of the staff came by to explain. Overall it was annoying having flashing light right in my face! Defiantly will not be returning.
Not a good experience. Ordered a drink at the bar and couldn't hear the bartender so asked him to repeat. Bartender proceeds to roll his eyes in front of me. What a horrible attitude. Is this how you treat your customers? The bar wasn't even busy. This was the taller of the 2 bartenders on January 11, around 10-11pm.
Went here with my wife few nights ago, right before closing… my wife and i wanted a quiet drink but she started feeling weird 5 mins into her drink. She couldnt stand straight and we were bombarded by 4-5 guys at that point… we escorted ourselves out of the situation as best as possible but i can definitely tell you that she got drugged and targeted. This was one of the weirdest nights of my life. The owner should see this and reach out to me directly and get rid of this issue. This is bad.
To respond to the owner’s reply: no we didn’t order through app we were in person. Attached the receipt from tonight. Also the red Y or not is the special drink that should be 14 dollars I believe per the menu. Overall the experience is just sloppy and overcharged. One star! Very overpriced and randomly charged. We ordered two cocktail and one plate of chips. We ordered one sauce but they gave us the wrong one and took away yet charged two plates of salsa sauces. They also have mandatory tip of 20% and try to trick you into paying additional tips by hiding the receipt in the back. Service was meh and slow. drinks were very very very very strong and it’s getting to the point of discomfort after drinking. Definitely feels like a scam here cuz two drinks and one chips add up to be 70 dollars.
