Opinions de Llama San New York
Very nice atmosphere and delicious food! Worth the price and would recommend the wagyu appetizer. The fries for the swordfish were delicious but the actual swordfish was not my favorite. Everything was cooked and seasoned well.
The food was definitely elevated. The waitstaff understood the intricacies of each dish and explained the menu well (though the menu on it's own is quite confusing - be sure to ask for an explanation). My favorites were the wagyu carpaccio and croquettes. Everything was great though. Our table ordered everything on their menu to share for the table and not one dish disappointed. The drinks were also unique and worth a try. Ambience was spot on and it felt like an intimate and cozy setting with elevated dining. A hard vibe to pull off. Tables were a little cramped and there was nowhere to hang coats. Pre fixe 3 course meal was about $90pp plus beverages. Would definitely recommend!
Ive had this place on my radar for over a year because Ive never heard of Peruvian-Japanese fusion, but never found an occasion to go. However, an unfortunate occasion presented itself: Llama San is CLOSING! I’m so glad I checked in before they left and got to have a great meal here. Loved the vibe inside, it was like a natural bohemian, heavy on the natural with the amount of stone everywhere. Even the tableware was very stone-esque I loved it. Also the music was great, they were playing Daft Punk’s Aerodynamic upon entry which had me so thrilled for this meal. Started with the Blue Crab with Potato and Japanese Curry which was one of my favs of the night. A small bite but powerful in flavor. I was honestly impressed by how the potato was presented because while eating it I couldnt even figure out what it was. The crab with the curry was divineeeee. Next, had the Tuna with Ponzu Leche de Tigre and Citrus. This was really refreshing, I loved the citrus sauce with the mandarin orange slices alongside the tuna (which was amazingly smooth btw) and the sauce had a very very subtle spice to it which was interesting. This dish had a lot of these leaves in between the tuna which I wasnt sure what it was but it was extremely bitter so that wasnt a fun start but for the rest of it I just didn’t eat the leaves. After that we went into some mains. First was the Iberico Pork Tonkatsu with Udon Verde, Tsukemono Cucumbers, and Walnuts. The pork was fine but loved the katsu sauce over it. It was on the sweeter side but that’s the side I like to be on! The udon was FIRE. So incredibly soft and some of the creamiest pesto Ive ever had mmmmm. I ate the two items separately but then combining them together was actually so great wow idk like you got meat, carb, greens, sweet, sharp, all in one bite. Second main was the Rock Shrimp with Uni, Rice, and Chalaca. For some reason I did not expect this dish to be warm but it was! I thought overall this dish was good, but like a fine good. I didn’t really get any inventive flavors out of it but it was really good. Had a slight kick to it but some acidity too which I really liked with the rice. This dish was so beautiful though! Lastly, had to try dessert DUH. Got the Tres Leches with Lemon and Tonka Bean. I loved the presentation here it was like a cream dome over the cake. I am partial to a heavily soaked, wet tres leches, which this couldve had more milk, but the flavors here were on point. The cake was nice and dense and the tonka bean + rum added a really great nuttiness to the cream that was sooooo tasty I lowkey wanted to order a second one… Sad to see this place go because I wouldve seen myself return to try some other dishes, but alas all good things must come to an end. I’m glad I got to catch it on it’s last week!
A very inviting place with a fun Japanese Peruvian menu. A fusion of common Japanese ingredients like seafood (uni, tuna), shiso leaves and mushrooms with punchy Latam flavors. The scallops starter was really good, on the saltier side, so would be better to pair with bread. The octopus came in small skewers, simple and delicious, good as otsumami. The tuna ceviche was refreshing, citrusy. A nice balance to other dishes on the menu. Wild mushrooms were meh imo. A bit too oily for me. For entree, we had rock shrimp, sea bass and chicken teriyaki. The sea bass was my fav because of thoughtful use of crunchy snow peas and foamy coconut milk. A very memorable dish! For dessert, the black sesame parfait was good but really dense just a heads up.
My first visit was a couple years ago and I’ve been dying to come back. Finally made it here last night and it was as good as I remember. The pork and steak were the highlights, but every dish was incredible. Come with friends so that you can order a lot! Service is top notch!! Fine dining level food in an unpretentious environment.
Such an interesting menu; and everything works so well. The space is really relaxing and welcoming, great service and it is fun to try so many new flavors. We had a ceviche, the veal toast, crispy mushrooms to start and then the swordfish and pork katsu for mains and the sesame for dessert. All outstanding! Mushrooms, ceviche, and katsu were the favorites.
Great atmosphere, staff, and above all, the food and drinks. The swordfish, octopus, and mushrooms were divine. The only con so that I wanted more and more. The scallops and pork were delish. The tuna was also tasty, but the sauce was a bit too salty. Drinks were also phenomenal, especially the strawberry yogurt drink.
This restaurant deserves to be busier! As a devoted potato lover, I can confidently say their potato dishes are top-tier. The lobster potato bites were a standout—the thinly layered sliced potatoes had a crispy crust with a soft center, pairing perfectly with the lobster. Even the fries were exceptional: perfectly sized, golden brown, and just the right amount of salt. What more could you ask for? One dish that really blew me away was the lettuce mushroom wrap. Hidden under some foam, it felt like digging for treasure, and the reward did not disappoint. It was like a warm hug in flavor—deliciously balanced vegetables with oyster and a comforting texture. The swordfish was also fantastic—tender with a nice peppercorn touch. That said, the tuna crudo, while visually appealing, didn’t quite hit the mark in flavor, as the sauce didn’t pair well with it. The crab Uni bowl was good, but with too many components, the seafood got a bit lost. For the price tag, it could’ve used more than three pieces of Uni, and a sweeter variety might have been a better fit. Service was phenomenal—Mannie was attentive and kind, and I appreciated how receptive the staff was to feedback. The atmosphere is charming too—great lighting, comfortable seating, and a sustainable vibe. While the prices are on the higher side, it’s worth it for a special occasion. Definitely a must-visit spot—you’ll leave feeling content, bring a cute date or your family, they will be impressed! And I will come back to try the other item of the menu, I think it changes pretty frequently.
This Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant is a delightful blend of artistry and flavor. From the moment we stepped inside, the ambiance and decoration captivated our senses. We ordered 3 course prix fixe brunch, and every single dish was a culinary masterpiece. From the trout ceviche to the salmon tartare, wagyu beef paired with sunny side up eggs, and the curry katsu, every bite was flavorful. It blends artistry and gastronomy, highly recommended:)
This restaurant was good! Worth a visit FOOD I thought the flavors were pretty interesting, and some of the dishes I saw the blend of the Peruvian and Japanese flavors they were going for. Here are the dishes we ordered: Rock shrimp & Uni: 10/10 (MUST GET) Chicken: 8/10 (sauce was good) Scallops: 9/10 (delicately cooked scallops in a delicious sauce) Lamb toast: 7/10 (tasted interesting, jous was delicious) Overall, the one memorable dish was the rock shrimp with uni which was sort of like a Peruvian Japanese risotto with delicious morsels of uni and shrimp mixed throughout. Flavors were complex and highly recommend. SERVICE The service was excellent - definitely a fine dining establishment. The staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and they really cater to you throughout the meal. AMBIANCE Very cool interior of the restaurant and the outdoor seating area was also nice (which is where we sat on a gorgeous Sat evening). The tables are also separated from the rest of the street with tall plants and landscaping which was a nice touch. Overall, Erik Ramirez and team did a great job with this restaurant and glad we came and gave this place a try!
I really enjoyed the food here. The flavors were very powerful and complex in each dish so you'll want to take it slowly to savor it. Our server recommended the prix fixe and I'd recommend that too. We got 2 prix fixes for two people and it was the perfect amount of food and let us experiment a little with our selection. Their menu is seasonal, but I'd recommend the ceviche above all else.
on my bucketlist for a while! finally got to try their brunch menu this past weekend. we ordered their katsu and wagyu steak with eggs. safe to say, we’ll be coming back here again for just these 2 items! they were so delicious and cooked to perfection. i’ve never had katsu taste so juicy and tender 😭 it was love at first bite. the wagyu was so so yummy, honestly my favorite dish out of the 2. it was sweet, tender, and juicy! we were pretty full after eating these - we shared :-).
We’ve been long-time fans of Llama Inn, so we naturally had to give Llama San a try. Amazing food and experience. Decor was warm and vibrant with greenery, and the service was great. The mix of Peruvian and Japanese ingredients was unique, and we found combinations of flavor that we don’t usually find in the city. The cocktails were a miss and could use some fine-tuning to balance the flavors. Otherwise great spot, highly recommend.
Amazing restaurant! We went for 4 course dinner - $95 each. Last course is dessert. For each course you can choose from about 3-5 options. Each course is delicious. You have the option of ordering each course separately as it's own dish. I would not recommend this because each dish is focused on quality rather than quantity. So it is a given that you will need three dishes to fill full. Better to go with course dinner as it makes sense economically and experience wise. The interior is warm and organic, staff is nice. Indoors, outdoors and bar seating available. The chef team deserves a hats-off. Absolutely mind-blowing food. Each ingredient is carefully selected and paired perfectly. Must visit!
I really wanna start off by mentioning that each dish was so challenging to my taste buds in the best way possible. The depth of flavor in everything was just next level. The service was really good and I really did like how The dishes were explained to us by our server. I’m so blown away by the flavors. had the pleasure of enjoying their outdoor seating. The day was perfect for it so it definitely did make the experience even more enjoyable. If you are someone that enjoys complex flavors with different levels of textures this is the place for you.
I remember coming here years ago and really loved everything about my dinner. I had the chance to come again and everything was great ! The food is really fresh and unique - dishes i don’t usually have in manhattan. However, I took one star off because I don’t necessarily think the food matches the $$ alongside the portion sizes
Absolutely loved Llama San! I’ve had plenty of Nikkei (even lucky enough to have tried in Peru), but this seemed different in a good way! Much less excess use of soy sauce, and much more out of the box spicy or sour flavors. Great to go with friends and share different plates, although beware most of the entries are just bite size / one piece. Can’t wait to go again!
Very nice restaurant, great food. The curried lobster and wagyu beef were a personal favourite. Would also highly recommend the pork tonkatsu. Point deduction because there was a mix up with our reservation, it seems another party had cancelled but a staff member accidentally cancelled our booking. We were then left waiting for 20mins without anyone confirming if we had a table. Also a long delay receiving our main course meant we had rush as we nearly missed our next reservation. Our waiter was excellent though, perhaps front of house staff need a bit more experience.
We tried plenty of food here, the ceviche and the scallops were wonderful. The steak was okay and the katsu curry was okay but definitely not worth the price for $40. Service was not meeting the expectations as it was more on the fancier side. We were waiting to get our water filled, and not attentive enough to get their lowest tip which is 20%. Knowing that we get the bare minimum, although the bartender, she’s very friendly and nice
It’s surprising busy on a Monday night with all table booked with walk in. It’s a definite good spot for date and I don’t know if the prefix is worth it. I would probably come here only once. The food is so so. We had many dishes and honestly only the beef tartar dish impressed me. For what we paid, I was expecting a little more. The dishes are meant for sharing but the portion is not. The atmosphere is great. The place is quiet for a date and the interior is pleasant decoration. Unfortunately we can only occupy the bar area but the bartenders are so fun. I appreciate their company. The service again is amazing. I would advice to book a table Service
Had high hopes for a Peruvian Japanese fusion, a cuisine I’ve enjoy plenty before. The food overall was fine but not amazing, especially for the high prices. Interesting flavors and nice presentation. The pairing of the pesto udon noodles with the pork katsu was a swing and a miss. The swordfish was overshadowed by the potato fries - a basic but somehow the most memorable part of the entree. Would not return. The restaurant itself had a very cozy ambiance though.
